Sure thing Trooper, I'll have a look at your transfer paperwork while I'm sitting at this station anyway.

Hey, this place looks nice. Snow, drinks and in house catering? Maybe I should find a lakeside resort after this gig.

Here, I'll pop out a skimmer drone to buddy up with you. I can't manevour this BT into that building.

Blood isn't nothing new, but the carbon scoring is a curiousity. Self defense thermals and bad aim? Have a look-see at that barracks if someone has conveniently left a note that says "HELP, THE SECOND SKY DONE DID ALL THIS".

Make this entire patrol lot easier if we can just write this all off as a cult thing.

Scratch one bug problem. Bigger roach looks meaner but still can't take a bullet.

Got a lead on what's occluding our sensors; some sort of passive EM intereference is playing havoc with the uplink. When you took out that last scuttlebug it cleared up in this sector.

Judging from the whiteout merrily devouring processing back-end, these bugs aren't alone out here.

Checking the perimeter first? Good call.

The intereference is fairly heavy from that builing up ahead, but I'm recieving trace pingbacks from deeper in the structure. They have a generator running in there powering something.

Let's see if the drone can't get a better read... trace isotypes, low key radiation nothing to worry about, neglible background flux... And a blank?

Something in that building is actually eating the telemetry signals. Which is a strange approach to stealth, we can see it just fine by the giant hole its tearing our sensor coverage. And it's moving?

To explain fully, Trooper

The Veritas rolls 1d6+1 for damage, but 3d6 to attack. Every skill use is 3d6 to accomplish something. You want less than relevant statistic. Firearms for Shooting, Assault for Close Combat and Force, so on.

The damage itself is often read off of the same dice for convenience (So you roll 3d6 with 1d6 weapon, Command simply uses the first dice in your 3d6 chain to derive damage).

In situations where weapons do larger amount of dice, they're resolved on the backend when processing. Troopers are welcome to roll these themselves, but then it has to be in addition to the 3d6 roll to activate a skill (Which can be unfeasible if one fires a 9d6 weapon twice, as it would entail rolling 24d6).

Firing a veritas twice, one rolls 3d6 for the first and 3d6 for the second shot. The Veritas is a Blasting Weapon, so it does 1d3+1 on a hit, and the hits once again for every increment by which one passes the shooting check.

Fire Veritas. Have Firearms 10. Roll 3d6. Get 8. Hit once on 8, once on 9, once on 10. Total damage is 1d6+1, 1d6+1, 1d6+1.

Burst with the Veritas, get +1 per ammo expended.

Fire Veritas full auto. Firearms 10. +6 for 6 extra ammo spent. Roll vs 16. Get 8. Hit on 8, 9, 10, 11, 12, 13, 14, 15, 16.

Do 1d6+1 * 9.

Against unarmored targets and soft materials, the breaching shotgun feasibly reduces it mostly to mush.

. . . Specialist. It's your call. We'll can write it up as field expedient utilization of ressouces. Most of these components are primarily metallic, so they're conductive. . . enough.

But no turning my fine walker into a biomechanical scorpid monstrosity.

In any case, it's not the uplink device itself. You can fix that with ducttape.

It's the fact they clawed though the microprocessors and powerbanks. That module is toast until we can get a full replacement.

No more potatoe jokes I promise, whoops just kidding.

I reckon we should hole up and bottleneck in the build where that egghead whatshisname is. (Kojima?) So he can mess with that console thingy, it looks important. I don't think the bugs will be giving our fellow humans a second pass again so lets leave em too it.

Might as well take the opportunity to ask some questions regarding the burst recoil mechanics I haven't messed with.

Focused fire is +4 skill so you can shoot up to 16 with my gun right?
Is the skill added to the Firearms for the recoil calc or only the hit chance?
Is recoil added -2 skill per burst or flat?
Is recoil added for non burst single shots?

How I assume it works please correct me

Here's how it works: Burst fire allows you to increase your effective skill with the weapon by firing additional shots. As a Burst 1/4 weapon, the CIW grants +1 skill on an attack per 4 bullets fired. Then, as you know, 3d6 is rolled vs skill to determine successes. Recoil is essentially determines what percentage of those success equates to damage. Due to RCL 2, every increment of 2 successes adds a damage roll of 2d6+3, rolled by Command.

For comparison, Veritas' [Blast] is essentially RCL 1, since it adds a damage roll per increment of 1. In other words, for every single success.

So do I have to expend a focus point to get the +1 skill or can I just call 4 shots and get it as a weapon ability? I'm assuming it's the latter and quick/normal/focus only helps buff your base skill roll right?

So I call 4 shots
14+1(burst) 3d6
roll a 9 pass by 6
I roll 2d6+3 ×3
One misses

Am I getting it right?
>>
>>1660944
You can simply hold the trigger down to get your free shots for extra effective skill. at only marginal cost increase and more firearms discharge paperwork post-op.

So. Much. Paperwork.

4 shots as a weapon ability with a 1/4 weapon. And yes, only influences base skill.

With the CIW, you can compensate for the -2 Penalty with 8 bullets (-2 + 2 = 0), giving you the effectiveness of a normal action at the cost of 26% of your full magazine.

And then when you run out of bullets and the roaches tear your face off, you will learn to appreciate the art smaller bursts.

And yes. Precisely.

For /really/ advanced shooting, Command can even mention that targets that are in the same vector path as your projectile (usually straight behind a target) can get hit when you fire excess bullets.

Be mindful of your ammo. It'll run out much too soon.

Forgot to ask, all those bullets in burst mode only go to one target? 1 quick/normal/focus attack only lets you target one enemy right? Or can you target more than one enemy with one firing action?

I'm assuming you can only overwatch weapons with one that has it in the description correct?

Yes. Point to point interface. One attack action, one target. Maximize your odds of hitting. For area denial, use your equipment.

As for weapons, anything can overwatch. That's simply being PREPARED for the future. Some weapons are just designed to allow to facilate it easier.

as a Breacher, you could even use your Focus to take a normal attack action, and then overwatch with it. Perfect for swooping around corners or kicking in doors.

====

It is POSSIBLE to target multiple targets, firing bullets all wild at a cluster. Unfortunately that makes aiming difficult. Every extra target is treated as another riding quick action, and you take -2 per target to all rolls.

3 targets. -6.
4 targets. -8.

Naturally your targets will have to be close to each other. Every hex you have to sweep your gun over is another -1.

Without compensating equipment, steady aim and the [Sweeper] talent, the waste of ammo would be tremendous. Is the TACOPS manual bereft of the talent?

Yeah, uh. Hm. I requested a different loadout from Command for this operation. That might be my fault.

But all that?

This is why this BT has a squad support weapon.
Give me a Gunnery Roll and a target, and you can leave the ammo expenditure to the weapon with the capacity in the hundreds.

okay trooper, you're all calibrate and good to go? Excellent. Now remember: No putting people into dimensions where they intersect with already existing objects. This is still experimental tech, and the ensuing material stabilization cascade is always problematic.

--
Resonance - 2

First all, you get a new stat.
RESONANCE
Or
RES. It is 3.

If there is ever a need for a base effect or metric, the outcome of your actions with resonance is 3 + your margin on success on a given roll. Otherwise, it relies on your skill.

You are VECTOR SPECIALIST.

You therefore gain the SKILL

Vectors - 12

Note that unlike Processing which is broadly capable of doing tasks, Resonance is specialized.

Vector manipulation is manipulation of movement, direction, location and other such spatial definitions.

Roll vs Vectors to move or redirect objects = margin of success.
Roll vs Vectors to negate movement and momentum = margin of success
Roll vs Vectors to jaunt yourself
Roll vs Vectors to jaunt others
Roll vs vectors to in general influence, nudge, push, change, reorient or redirect the movement and location of objects.
Yes, you are expected to experiment.

You may MAINTAIN an ongoing effect by spending 1 AP. For instance, you could handily declare that all incoming projectiles about to take your head off should rebound west, but maintaining this shield would cost 1 Ap per turn. Each projectile would also roll vs your Vector Skill when striking your reorientation, so maybe not walk into a minigun fire.

VECTOR SPECIALISTS have come up with the following in field uses
>Projectile Bouncer
>[Re-orient incoming projectiles in [X] direction]. Bounces up to Effect projectiles.
>[Intersect] Roll to move a small object into the location of someone else. The results are painful.
>[Disarm] That gun! It's NOT in your hand!
>[Dis-arm] That arm! It's NOT!

It is inadvisable to teleport objects or people in such a way that their materialization conflicts with an already present object. But you're going to do it anyway, aren't you?

Unlike every other skill in existence, Resonance may do 2 things that is marginally. . . unsafe.

You may opt to target 1 additional target for a -1 to your roll per additional target. Note that this also therefore dimishes total effect, because effect relies on the margin on your roll. But if you want to try and teleport an entire batteformation, you can.

You may /increase/ the BASE RES by accepting an INCREASE in the base failure rate. Critical failure is normally 8. You can push yor res to 4, and failure is 17. 5 and failure is 16. And on, and on, and on, until you do feel you're walking timebomb.

This [Aligning] costs 1 AP in either direction. You may [STABIIZE] at any time for 1 AP and return to your base res. Your surroundings may not be quite the same. And may take damage.
>>
>>1663055

The old Dawn cannon?
It works the same as a support weapon. It can reliably strike anywhere you can feasibly see, but keep in mind that I'm using your gunnery skill to give me a firing solution. Range penalties will apply from the BT. We can fire directly or in an arc, the cannon is adjustable.

However, we can only fire once a turn and afterwards we need to reload. A co-pilot can perform this reload action. It costs 3 AP. If there aren't any, the automated system can do it but then it will of course take longer.

We have two shell types.

20x Predator
3d6+3 VP

For anti-armor use. These will go clean through most vehicles, but will bounce off heav armor if fired through the front.

20x Blossom
1d6 VP +6d*3 EX [4d] Shrapnel

These go bang.

Very, very loudly, in a very, very large area. Unfortunately the anti personnel qualities make them utterly unreliable against armored vehicles of any quality. The shockwave will simply wash over. If its an open-topped vehicle however, then hey, so more's the pity for them not having a PROPER TANK.

Trooper, I don't know /what/ you've done or how you've done it, but my console is filling with gibberish and the interference is lifting. It's like the signals are rebounding or resonating or amplified by the nervous system of those. . . pets. . . of yours.

I can almost get them to operate with the drone uplink, it's they're compatible but for the alien structure of their entire being. This isn't an animal, it's some sort of biomechanical construction that almost thinks in legible code.

But judging from all these organic compounds and metallic bits, I don't how how that would be - there's no receptor capacity in neurons and a liver can't pick up *radio*

21 to 25 = -6

Private Log, Patrol 7R1663R
----

Patrol been declared clean, no trace of contaminants or lingering viral vectors. Small note of joy in what's otherwise growing into the diplomatic mess of the decade.

Results of the initial investigation came back last night. High Command had the base on lockdown, doubling patrol strength of the few teams still sent out. Guess it wasn't good news.

The officer managed to wipe fragments of the data from the machine itself, so they're struggling to puzzle it together. Apparently it's Driet tech. Once the word got out, everyone else started in on the gossip. Whisper its a machine for making devils. Or demons. Or tanks. Well that's all wrong, but I've been told not to correct anyone. Command prefers demons to biomechanical von neumann drones of unknown origin.

The Chironan must have pulled it from the Dust and spent years tinkering with it. Their diplomatic corps swears they didn't know anything. Blamed splinter operations, dissavowed rogue scientists, extremist looking for an acid-mandible ace up their sleeve. Everyone's on a bit of an edge, talking sanctions and arms build up. Just waiting for a swarm of roaches to appear and eat through a city centre. Their state apparatus is refusing to hand over potential information leads (state secrets, classified, sorry) and the single surviving soldier of theirs didn't talk much before mysteriously suffering from three gunshots to the back of the head.

So not do we have to deal with bugs and tension, there an assassin somewhere on the base. And the coffee shipment got delayed again.

Worry about the bugs that got away. If those underpaid scavengers found and activated one machine, there's more out there. Messing with Driet tech doesn't end well. Nine times out of ten it blows up, and the tenth time you get a resonance operative who starts thinking they're a demigod.

We'll see how it shakes out. Chirns' are refusing inspector access to their known biolabs. Command thinks they should roll up with a battle walker and demand access.

Swear one of the generals almost clocker their diplomatic envoy.

Well, we're on base patrol for the next two weeks. Hope the coffee gets here.
>>
>>1670537
They likely can. They didn't look morphologically stable. We're blanketing the area with skimmer drones and any that report camera issues, we're checking out. Haven't the bugs yet.

As for the APC, it's not my field, Specialist. But I imagine that super-imposing an entity that can devour and adapt material on top of a vehicle collapsed their reference reality in such a way that the two merged. The bug became the APC. It. . . screamed when they burned it.

It's the only time I heard any of them make any noise.

In light of recent experiences, the TacOps manual has been updated

>You can now spend 2 Focus to gain 1 AP
>Some talents have been changed as a consequence. You may pick a different one if you are not satisfied with the version you now have.
>Reactive weapons like the Chirni now allow picking between Overwatch or Dodge
>Tinkered with Armor stats a tiny, tiny bit to differentiate more. Mk1 gives +2 / 2, MK 3 gives -2 / -2 but has more DR.

Any surviving troopers may take 25 XP.
For killing >25 Bugs, Trooper Bill gets 30, you murderous maniac. Turns out a full on ballistic specialist can be surprisingly useful.

XP raises stats and skills.

XP = Skill raises a skill by 1 lvl.
Firearms 10. Pay 10. You have Firearms 11 now.

You may also raise HT or FOCUS.

To raise Mobility, pay 2x its current level
Mobility 5 to Mobility 6 = 10 XP.

To raise PROC or RES, pay 4x current level.
Res 3 to Res 4 = 12 XP.

You will also notice a transfer of 30 CC to your accounts. It's. . . complicated.

The Chironan Combined Corporate Collective is really an umbrella of nesting doll shell corporations, firms and businesses that is, on the book, privately owned and operated. But it's an open secret majority shareholders tend to be anonymous in nature and state aligned.

You try to bust them for Dust tech scavenge? Well, then they were just a privately operating enterprise that got a little too ambitious with their government contracted surveying jobs.

You try to crack down on their international reach? Well, now your office is bugged and the legal team is under survailence by people with buzz haircuts and ready trigger fingers.

Do those plates give you 15 hp or just +3 to your base for one base mobility?
>>
>>1670805
Yes. It's implied, albeit badly how many you get. It's two 2 reloads - same as the black market weaponry.

The Mjolnir launches a series of small fire-and-forget rockets. At most the rockets would only ever hit 1 full aoe, if you rolled 3 for damage (3 on the oriignal hex, 1 for every surrounding). VP damage is Vehicle Points, however. (Or Very Powerful, if you prefer). That'll blow through terrain, cover and vehicle plating.

The plates give you 15 HP, but the plates themselves work by absorbing the impact of incoming rounds. Once they shatter, they're less effective. They're good for saving you life if someone has an assault rifle. And of course if it does save your life, I'm sure you can convince our . . . friend . . . to give a new pair of plates.
>>
>>1670917
What is the damage on the Chirni-77? it just says 1d+2.
>>
>>1670917
So it's 15 hp that can't be healed by a triage kit then? I'd have to wait until the mission is over to repair it?

Those [Mod]'s on the CIW are they for attachments or weapon skills?
>>
>>1671035
Underpaid operational typists, I imagine.
1d6+2. Ds are 6 universally. There's a typo in the Veritas as well, as it says 1d3+1. It actually does 1d6.
>Fixed

>>1671133
Yes. They'll save your life, soak up a bunch of bullets, and if you're wearing protection already it's a good additional layer to prevent things from piercing your fragile flesh. I'm told.

As for the Mods, they're attachments. The standard kit issue is the Vættir grenade launcher for field adapatibility, but the CIW is customizable. You slot in what you need, but it'll only take that one attachment. Otherwise the system gets too bulky. In the fiel, the modularity means you can change the currently equipped attachment as the system is modular.
>One to remove
>One to ready other system
>one to attach

The CIW-92 has expanded capabity and some weight removed from changing compositional alloy, so you can feasibly use two attachments with it.

We don't get one of those as standard issue because cost projections per trooper rendered it unfeasible and High Command would rather have four troopers with subpar guns.

Some questions I have now that I've gone over all the new stuff.

When using my new talent, are my attacks normal or quick?

How is damage calculated with the ablative HT, is it always targeted first, does it have a roll/proc/ratio absorption or can we choose where to distribute the damage?

What exactly does Vital pads do/what is [Vitals]?

Can I swap my armor system for another?
>>
>>1673353
You decide that. The Focus pays for Attacks at 1:1. So for 3 Focus, you may make 3 quick attacks, normal + quick, or one focused. Up to you.

It gets hit first. You take an incoming attack, take damage, subtract DR, and any leftover goes to the ablative. Once gone its gone. Because you're taking damage to ablative padding, some weapons that would otherwise have nasty effects may not apply those - you won't get acid burn on yourself when its busy eating through your padding.

If you look at the C7 Duty Combat Knives, you'll find out what Vitals is. Usually in mano y mano combat, we train troopers to target vulnerable areas easier to hit in close range than the centre-mass firearms seek. That means you can jam a knife through the neck joint or under the shoulders if you have an opening. As a consequence, VEST AND ARMOR DR is bypasseed by a properly trained trooper.

When we shore up the padding with some these new systems, the suit itself becomes harder to move in but you are protected more effectively.

And yes, as freely as you like. Same for any kit issued weaponry. You just fill out the paperwork and you may get what you like from the quartermaster. Sometimes you might want to, mission profile depending.
>>
>>1672697
It's because they're busy deciding whether to dissect ... her ... or feed it more material to see how it adapts. They've had it hooked up to a generator and it charges just like a battery. Baffes the technicians.

That and we had the on-staff research psychologist tear their hair out trying to find out how it senses its environments. Something about self referenterial perceptual processes continuinally updated, but without any photon involvement or echolocation.

Had the ResOps Office send over one of their spooks. Karlsteen swears there's an ongoing slow environmental scan that feels vaguely like someone rolling their tongue across every pore in her skin. Don't know what that means, terrifies me.

Material samples give us a large amount of copper. It'd be easier to get samples if it didn't shock the reseachers every time we tried and non-conductive tools are expensive.

Which is all a long-winded way of saying "You may, but base security will be following twenty steps behind and you'll have to log anything unusual"

>>1672697
>>1671762
>>1671633
Well they're not magic swords that can slice through time or all materials. They're just very nice. Turns out the staff of station 11 were big into historical renactment. Not that it did them any good.

Are trying to get these authorized for field use? Other than ceremonially, I don't think we're issued swords any more. Colonel might think it's a joke and let it pass if I bring it up.

Also I kinda noticed, stim packs are pretty redundant when you can use focus for it and just resupply with rations. It only saves you 4 focus compared to the potential 12 of the rations.

What would definitely be useful is some items that allow you to convert xp to cc or cc to xp. Definitely at a substantial ratio though but it would still be great for when you are just a bit short.

Rolled 5, 1, 1 = 7 (3d6)

>>1674352
Ah, inquiring minds.
>>
>>1674352
Well, we'll need a few new test dummies. And someone get Maintenance. Have a few holes in the firing range to shore up.

It appears that simply accelerating objects in the path they're already on is possible. We don't know where the excess energy comes from, but it seems to inverse propertional to the size of the object. Maintain the field and slugs gets a kick in the direction it was already travelling.

I think there's a Singularity Cloud RD project actually trying to do the same thing with a metallic shaving accelerator.

Short range that means worse impacts, long ranger the usual resistance applies but at least the shot itself will travel further before that accrues.

>Yes. Translates to +dmg which are lost to range penalties once you exceed rng 5. The field has to roll to see if it applies per shot. Woul be maintained. Nice ResOp Troops help their shootier friends put more spiff in their guns.

--

The implants are volatile and still experimental. We're basing them on designs we still have to fully decode. VEC-3-12 seems to prefer altering probationally derived location information, but it doesn't apply any new force to do so. It makes the effects of trying to pit sub-parts of already existing forces against each other somewhat anaemic, since the system loses raw potential in the attempt. That, and the subtargetting gets mathematically complex. There's a series of safety inhibitors that kick and seemingly stop us from altering the lowest levels of locality, like quark or particle spin. Or molecular momentum.

Still trying to bypass that. I hear the new models can transmute copper into a rapidly expanding shroud of radition and heat and a 30.00000 bill for a new labspace.

We did come up with an applied local field manipulator that can generate kinetic energy on its, but that version refuses to interact with the vector space of anything.

>The implants prefer targetting whole objects. Subpart-targetting is still being worked on. Removing pieces is easier for the time being, but twisting can be attempted.

As for changing bullet paths - yes. Trickshooting competition every Saturday. Teamplayers find a markman to work with.

Troopers Loren and Styles can navigate a 9mil through a 12 turn maze.

As for the outcomes of two objects merging in realspace, the answer is. . . variable. We're working out the decicison chain behind it but so far it seems wholly random. The materials end up occupying the same space. If nothing obstructs the main trigger pathways, it tends to. If someones neuron and interstitial fluid is co-occupying the molecular space of the ignition charge, then it's a dud.
>Depends on an outcome roll.
>>
Not that I didn't wish we could use shear stress to fight tanks. Sounds cheaper than the AAS.
>>
>>1674896
It says in the Firearms skill description that it is good for "tinkering" with firearms, can I do some improvised weapon adjustments?

I really want to find a way to store an extra 2 bullets per mag, the CIW standard not being divisible by multiples of 4 really bothers my tism.
>>
>>1674879
Seems to me that the problem of an obstructed detonator could be resolved quite elegantly by using a grenade a with a roach merged into it. If I understand "reference reality" correctly here >>1670597, said grenade would be able to turn anything it was merged with into something whose purpose in existence is simply to detonate, provided the grenade still held enough of whatever passes for sapience.
>>
>>1674960

>>
>>1674903
>the solution is simply compressing the magazine's feed spring further than is strictly safe
>>

>>1674903
You can. Especially now we have a moment of PEACE AND QUIET where NOTHING WILL GO WRONG on base for R&R.

A few adjustments, handloaded rounds and an hour with a file and some screwdrivers easily accomodates tinkering attempts.

If only there was more quiet to work, y'know? Internal comms are getting somewhat lively.

Troopers! Thank the void. I can't reach HQ, security is offline and our internal node network has been compromised so the automated incidence response drones aren't leaving their charging beds.

What's worse is that the power supply is erratic and the same interference we had at station 11 is kicking up a storm.

It's them. They're here.

Last clear message was a sabetour in the reactor control facility. Watch out, there could be more out there. This entire thing has the smell of a long running set up about it.

Get armed, get suited up and help fix this hot mess.

HQ is the rallying point, so make your way there. Colonel Gerean should have more orders and the rest of the base. We're running on a skeleton crew because the sweeper patrols were running double strength. Normally that'd mean they'd be able to hurry back here as reinforcements, but we can't reach them with this signal disruption.

If you can, check the INTERNAL NODE CONTROL STATION and see if you can't get the automated defense protocols back online.

And I have a feeling there's going to be action around the VAULT too. Spies and saboteurs. The standard guard crew should be able to handle anything and in an emergency security is meant to reinforce them. But security isn't responding, and it's hell to properly convey signals out there. If see other troopers, check they're friendly. If they're friendly. get them to go fix what you can't reach.

You're the only patrol unit properly geared up. I bet you feel pretty silly for laughing at my constant insistence of late night firing range drills in full equip, huh?

I figure you're considered to see it coming as you make contact. As I've come to understand hexcom's iterations, "detecting" depends on the target being in a certain arc in the direction your character is facing. Not necessarily fog of war.

Clincher has the right of it. Basic training.

Every unit actually has a FACING. It's the little _|_ on your sprite, or the point of the triangle on a RES/TECH op.

Anything within your vision cone counts as detected , and can trigger overwatches. When you're fighting lots of units (swarms), Command is usually lenient becasue the assumption is you're constantly checking your corners.

but in standard modus operandi

>overwatch 1
Isn't /quite/ the same as
>overwatch 3

---

As for [Dodge], it works if you're not blindsided with an attack from stealth, or from the direct opposite of your facing - a shot to the back of the head. When you move into an unknown area, ready to dodge, 99% of the time if you are attacked you will have spotted your target and get your defense.

Cover is actually directional too. Attacking from an angle that isn't covered means no cover DR.

Defend is an option you can always take. If you're not near something sturdy, you will simpy KNEEL or GO PRONE or HUNCH OVER or DISPLAY TACTICOOL AWARENESS. That applies a standard DR as well.

Most materials, by the way,

Walls, doors, most stuff - DR 4
Heavy Defenses - DR 6, -2 Skill penalty to be hit
Vehicles - Their front armor

Can you help me out command?

Also since we can apparently contact the guards.

>Transmit to the 5 nearby troopers
"This is PFC Bill Bob Joe, there was an incident in the reactor room; saboteurs have been confirmed. There's also some infiltrators who have managed to make it into the compound. Company command has given me clearance to take charge in this area, please acknowledge."
>>
>>1677381
A few things.

Once you move again, you return to normal.
>Turn start.

Flashbangs, stun grenades, smoke and other things that disrupt someone's FOCUS has a chance to knock their overwatches out of alignment.

Usually a good idea to throw one into a room where people are pointing guns at the entrance.

But no. As Breacher, your job is a combination of fire support and mobility, along with room to room urban combat. A standard example of a sweeper technique would be to

>Overwatch Normal
>Dodge
>Move 1, 1, 1, 3 into an unknown area
>Breacher Talent : Reserve 2 Focus for a follow up Normal shot.

Unless they get the drop on you, that'll help sweep a place. Overwatches are more for people who can't bring their weapons to bear at the drop of a pin, however.
>>
>>1677386
So if I Overwatch before I move into an unknown area does it trigger on my phase or his? Do I stop when I spot someone or do I fire while moving?
>>
>>1677406
Trigger upon spotting something that would cause an overwatch to go off. Could be during your movement, could be during response. Think of it as a reserved attack, triggering once conditions are met. If you see something untoward during your hustle, you reaction fire.

Movement would be stopped when firing. That's a safety precaution. If you see one enemy, there might be more. Don't want to walk into /their/ overwatches.

In the chaos of a live firefight, squad formation is difficult.

Hummer Squad will follow your general directions, but don't worry about micromanaging each individual Trooper. You may do so - but like all micro-orders - it consumes an AP.

Hummer and Mumuration are reporting combat active. No word from SGT Hardwell. Technician Willersby is restarting the autonomous defense units as we speak.

>>1678422
No status response from HQ. Dead air. If the bugs are inside, they're plucking the signals right out of our comms network.

Gerean could be holed up in the command bunker, eyebrows raised in minor dismay, and we'd never know. Hummer is go to breach on your orders, Trooper Bill.

>>1678461
Broken comms console and vault sec control board. The troopers there took care of it. No one's going to the deadbolts out of that vault now. Not sure what they wanted in there, but they're not getting it that's for damn sure.

Still no word from squads Whisper, Murmur or Sussurus and no sign of SGT Hardwell.

Convert the Conference Chambers to an impromptu triage station and you two - Willersby, McCausland - if you're done playing electronic hopstoch, get to saving lives. Pull all the material you can from the STORAGE and get the emergency kit from the BASE BT.

Hummer and Mumuration, you're with us.

Someone check the wounded. Maybe we can save some of them. I've seen worse. And get Private Martina some more painkillers, she's piloting with one arm and severe bloodloss.

Willersby, before you go stick your hands inside dying people, check over those Unknowns for ID or markers. They won't have the obvious signs, but check their boots, ammo, guns and outfit. Any usable grenades, give 'em to Murmuration. Find out who they are and where they're from.

Intereference isn't lifting, but if we hook up the BASE BT to the internal node network cluster we should be able to unscramble an outgoing and put out a call for reinforcements. I want an uplink with our satelittes back. Those guys in masks have access to heavy gear, they could have an armor battalion rolling towards us right now and we'd never know. 'Least of our worries, but a worry. Gotta contain this roach infestation before we worry about a potential war.

Facility power is still erratic. Generators are not giving us the output they should and coupled with the defense grid being all fritzy, it doesn't feel good. If these things are popping out of the ground or the "Incubator" we need to shut it down before this predicament goes exponential and we have to contact Carrier Command for a thermobaric saturation. I do not want to be here if that's what ends up coming.

Good work people. Snap to and get done. Proud of you.

And *someone* find me my /*voidstar/ blessed COFFEE.

Well, hm. The base quadrant is clear of bugs, HQ is . . . safe . . . and the saboteurs are all gone. Good job, Troopers. Hell of a sacifice play, but in the end we wouldn't want those roaches to get access to our uplinks, consoles or core clusters.

I can't say I agree with your methods, but given what those eggs trooper Kromia has found is doing to those work-station consoles, maybe you made the right decisions. I doubt we want these things to learn electronics or our protocol practices.

Or how to make machine guns.

Most Kills On A Turn is a tie between Bill (Breacher) who managed 13 with nothing but a gun and good aim and Grenadier Mick who vaporized 18 phase 1 animants with explosives (but that has to give some kind of bulk discount)

Mick broke one other record, in instigating a chain of events that caused a total of 760 points of damage by slamming a motorcycle into two primed phase 2 animants. That set off a ready grenade. Which set off a motorcycle. Which set off the grenade launcher reloads. Which set off the grenade launcher. Which set off the analytics console. Which set off the weapons resupply racks.

That was... pretty brutally well done. Extra aplomb for doing it as a grenadier.

----

Specialis Kromia can - by accessing the animant eggbatch - decode specialist information.

What we've managed to understand from it is attached. Good job, Specialist. Knowing is half the battle.

The other half we have you guys for.

Unfortunately not, Trooper. The reactor is right next door. You can see it.

And all the flickering shadows within.

And also the usual mess hall is on fire. I'll have to arrange for another courier dead drop. Although with Gerean dead now, I guess protocol isn't that high on the list.

I guess what actually terrifies Willersby is -- yes-- uhuh

metaporphically unstable non-genomic structure leads to.. how do you pronounce that? Can you draw me a graph?

Willersby says he's "miffed" more than "Terrified" because they seemingly spawn from one egg, which can be created in tens by one mature phase two. Something something end of the world.

Willersby, your graphs are too dramatic. Go reboot a combat drone.

Well it is /just/ around the corner.

Some quick thoughts,

Does predicti raises your base skill for the entire turn you use it? If it's just for one action it would really be suboptimal to use most of the time.

Synaptic transmission seems underwhelming compared to the rest of the trangenics. They either come with an extra stat boost or a skill compared to it.

Also about gear and stats

When I leveled I assumed gear just deducts/adds points from your base and doesn't affect it directly; That would be kinda silly. ie spent 10xp to level mobility from 5 to 6 instead of 4xp(net was 2 with gear).

With the injections and transgenics though would it directly affect your base? Say for example, you buy something that raises a stat and you make xp calcs with that in mind.

I think ironing this out now will avoid headaches with keeping track of stat modifiers.
>>
>>1682982
Gear modifies base, but xp pays from normal level. Raising mobility does not get cheaper by putting on the mk3.

As for the transgenics, they're meant to have a cost like that. But you make a valuable point.

Will look at expected baackend.

Initial intention is payment in cc reduced a stat which can be bought back up with xp. Re-iterating lets someone appy more perks at increasing cost ( but lower stats = easier to raise ).

Dying sucks, but does not totally wipe progress because perks are "sticky" that way.

Will rethink.

Re: Reflexes -

Cancels attacks if succesful and avoids environment traps passively. If any measure of "do they manage?" is needed, its used. Important stat, so it reflects that.
>>
>>1682982
And Predicti is +1 stacking skill until used. You bank ap for later. Converts 6 focus or 3 ap into +3 you can activate at any time, gives you a gradual increase if you have an idle ap.

Tune the software to a skill you aren't practiced at and it pays dividens when you need a +4 to demolitions 17 turns down the line, are out of focus and is surrounded.
>>
>>1683143
Reflex is useful that's not what the problem is. I'm under the impression that it's a stat that levels like any other no? You didn't really say otherwise when we leveled.

QuadChromatic cones +2 stats, asuming base the 15cc gets you 22xp worth

Synaptic assuming base 15cc gets you 9xp worth

>>1683748
I understood, that's why I said "most of the time". But you could just make a focused action and get +4 instantly instead of +3 later for the same ap. Or simply spend a focus to get +1 instead of 2/3 for +1.

It "might hypothetically" be useful in the future but only if you handicap yourself in the present which is the irony. It can end up getting you in the problem it is meant to counter.

It would be much less risky to buy ×3 ratpaks and have more focus that way than spend the same amount to prepare for when you run out of focus.

Just my /opinion/, hence "suboptimal".
>>
There's actually an open exploit - drinking/eating/triaging/moving while in melee triggers an intercept attack. And rations, like stimms, take effect next turn.

This isn't listed anywhere. Opted not to resolve it as it appears to avoid on map contradiction.

Anyhow, Command out. Will resolve feedback (thanks!) and be back.
>>
>>1686211
Intercept? So if the attack lands then the action is cancelled? Is that what the focus skill for assault initiates?
>>
>>1686369
Yes and yes.

Except assaults also get free attack upon initiating melee contact.

Incindentally, its why everyone has a knife. Go stand next to Chironan operatives that look liable to try triage.
>>
>>1686378
So just to be clear, intercepts are non lethal and only assaults get an attack after they active their skill? Is the skill only active for one turn? I assume it procs every opportunity for any enemy in range am I correct?
>>
>>1686486
No.

Standing next to bugs (or being in melee) means they get free attacks at you. If hit, you take damage and do not do the thing
>>
>>1686550
Ah so the assaults attack twice then? You'd have to quick draw a knife to proc intercepts I take it?
