/qst/ - Quests

You've been summoned by an Elven girl, a noble by the name of Elena. Thanks to her incompetence in daemonology, you are an unbounded demon within the mortal reality. Thanks to this, you have been able to grow in power rapidly, and now sit on the cusp of great knowledge.

Sin is your power, and your power is sin.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
The Unknown Imp hover in a destroyed basement, his 'Mistress' having left for supper commanding him to clean the mess. His Crippled Fairy prisoner still lies at the bottom of the sewer entrance, and the door to the girl's father's study remains propped open, a sanctuary of daemon knowledge and the occult.
With a sign, you use your powers of animal empathy to force the rats that had been gathering in the room to begin cleaning what they could.
You fly down the sewer to your prisoner, finding them exactly where you had left them. It seems they didn't try to escape, even though their wings were left unbound.
"Wh-that happened up there? I-I heard a noise..."
"Nothing you need to worry about." You say, picking up the pillow and the fairy on it. "I'm going to move you so you don't get crushed." You say, flying upwards and bringing the fairy into the study so she would be out of the way.
With that, you returned to the main room, seeing the rats making a good start on the cleaning as they dragged what they could into the sewer.
>Use word of power to try and clean it all now? (Roll 1d20 + half of charisma and half of Intelligence combined)
The Slaughter of Greenwatch happened roughly ten year ago. During the harvest festival, The children of the Abyss came to the village. Kidnapping multiple villagers, they sacrificed a good number of innocent live sin order to call upon one of the servants of the Arch-Daemons.
What followed was the complete devastation of the village and the cult, save for one member. Chosen as the "Speaker" by their fellow cultists, the details of the slaughter are in depth and graphic.
The cultist was imprisoned in the capital city, kept alive so the clerics could hopefully gain information on the cults movements.
Through the study of the text, you come across text written in Daemonic. Reading this passage, the bones in your arms shatter, split, then reform over the course of agonizing minutes. Your roar of pain startles the fairy, though you can see a little bit of hope spark in her eyes while you writhe in pain.
Eventually it ends, and you rise onc emore, your claws having lengthened by a couple inches and becoming incredibly sharp.
[Gained Claws I: +2 on attacks rolls when using claws]
"What are you doing in here?" Came a voic ebehind you, turning, you see your 'Mistress' standing in the hall. "I thought I told you t-By the Gods, what is that filthy creature doing in my father's study!?" She yelled, staring at the fairy, who was looking terrified at the elf.
The Elf began to walk threateningly towards the Fae, who seemed to be trying to get words from her mouth, but was stumbling.
>What do you do?
>>
>>1647318
I found this creature in the sewers as I was recovering my strength mistress, I thought it cruel to leave it to die. If I might mistress, might I be allowed to keep her down here, I will personally care for her myself of course.
>>
>>1647318
>It is my summoned servant and by extension yours - its small size allows for the completion of a variety of tasks that I would not be able to accomplish by my own. It was unfortunately injured by Drons while scouting enemies in the sewer and I am waiting for it to recover.
kill her already why do we continue to perpetuate this fake master slave relationship?
>>
>>1647318
>"Think of her as my assistant mistress. I found this creature in the sewers and decided to bring her along, isn't that correct?"
Quick question: Can the little faerie we have become one of the ones that use glamour, can't lie and are weak/afraid of cold iron? Or is this just like a magical humanoid butterfly?
>>
>>1647318
>I found and captured the fae in the sewers. I am using it as part of my plan to gain enough strength to end your mother
>>
>>1647360
Once we kill her, we have to flee from this place full of knowledge. Additionally she will be extremely useful if we manage to find a way to magically enslave her .
Since we have virtually infinite gold, we need someone to act as our proxy and purchase expensive items (books, magic items, etc) to further our power without risk. A noble yet incompetent elf girl would be able to do this without raising too much suspicion.
>>
>>1647360
If we kill her, we'll just bring unwanted attention to ourselves
>>
>>1647360
At this point I think of it like this, It's our property and we're vain enough to want to keep it, simple as that. It isn't for anything more than that really. With Zeldren we were logical and cold when we needed to be, he was manipulitve and did everything merely for the sake of his own plans and would lie and befriend a little girl only to use and potentially sacrifice her for his own schemes, with no real in game affection for her. On the other hand, our imp is all of these things to an extant, but it's also proud and passionate. It's always been at the bottom of the totem pole, forced to act as the yes man and servant while hoping to the dark father everyday that he isn't eaten for someone's snack. Now, he finally has the chance to ascend, he was once now someone else's property to torture and command. Now he is gaining the same things. The imp craves power, and servents, and ascendence, just like all of his more powerful siblings have. It doesn't matter that this is just some fae we found, it's ours and we do what we want with it, we've never had our own real property before and we'll do with it as we wish. Besides, it obeyed, and if it keeps obeying then we'll keep it alive, just as every imp has had to go through.
that's just the way I'm playing the imp as, A little pragmatism is fine but I don't want to end up the exact same character as Zeldren, we don't need to do things just because it's the most logical, we can have thoughts and desires that make sense to us and influence how we think and take action. Like simply burning down a sewer camp for example, and then torturing a fae and enslaving it. You can disagree with me, just the way I see the imp is all
Yeah, let's kill a noble's daughter and lose access to a safe place full of knowledge and our main source of future items. Why don't you just suggest we go into a church and hold a glowing sign saying "I'm a demon, slay me!", while you're at it. It's because of idiots like you that evil PCs have a bad reputation.
"That fae I found within the sewers," You simply, watching Elena slow to look at you "She is mine now, and I plan to use her in my plan to end your mother. So I would appreciate it if I could keep her Mistress, if you'de be so kind."
Elena scoffed, glaring at the fae "She's just going to trick you, all fae are filthy liars."
"She won't, I've made sure of that." You say, staring at the Fairy, and seeing her wilt under your gaze.
"Fine, whatever. Just get ready, I havew to bring you to my room while everyone is still eating, that way we don't get a repeat of Isaac. He's waiting in my room by the way." She said, turning and leaving.
With her gone, the fairy looked somewhat relieved, then looked to you "U-uh, how will I help you? I can try, but I'm not able to do much...anymore.." She said, seeming to grow depressed as she seemed to try and will her limbs to move.
Time passes, and thanks to some clever movements and close calls, you manage to find yourself in your mistress' room a the sun begins to set. "Alright, I'mn going to be asleep. Do not distrub me unless you need it." She said, walking off to change, leaving you with Isaac, who hands you a map.
"Lady Kellem is some fat Toad of a woman who married Lord Kellem to get his money., judging from how much time she spend sin the treasury." Isaac said matter of factly, then ducked under a book throne by Elena "Hey, you think the same!"
Elena came out in a night gown and her hair down, prepared for bed "Yes, but I won't have you insulting my family like that. Only I'm allowed to." She said, bonking Isaac on the head with her inherited book and then walking off to the bed. "Now get outta here, I have to sleep and my minion has to do reconnaissance. apparently." She said, climbing into bed as Isaac rolled his eyes and turned to leave.
Soon, night came, and your Mistress was sound asleep, the book under her hand on the bed.
It would be about eight hour sbefore she woke up again, and the house was likely left empty from everyone going to sleep, except maybe a servant going about some last minute business.
Slowly and carefully, you pull the book from beneath the girls hand. Her fist clenches, but she then rolls over, letting out a tired moan as she pulled the blankets further over her body.
The book lies in your hands, ready to be read...except there's a lock on it. Cursing to yourself, you look around for the key, then here a jingle as Elena turns once more. Around her neck, something that must have been tucked away, was a necklace that held a key on it.
Grabbing hold of the necklace, you slowly try to lift it up towards the book. Placing you feet on the bed so you can avoid flapping your wings, you almost manage to get it to reach, until you slip and yank the necklace hard and fall on Elena's stomach. The elf girl let out a "oomph" and shook awake as you yanked her head up with the necklace.
"Wuh, huh?" She said in a panic, before seeing you with her book and the necklace in your hand.
"What are you doing?!" She yelled, reached out to grab your neck with anger in her eyes.
Partial success!
"Mistress I-Urk!" You started to say, before the Elves hand was around your throat and he either hand tear her book from your grasp. Her eyes were almost red with anger.
"What makes you think you are ever allowed to touch my father's book?!" She yelled out, her grasp tightening around your neck.
"I was just following your orders to get stronger," you choke out, fighting every instinct to peel the flesh from her bones, "your book seem like a logical next step!"
Elena threw you from her grip and into one of her dressers, a handle jabbing into your spine and knocking the breath out of your body. Despite her being a mortal elf, the size difference made the difference in relative strength obvious.
"Stupid Imp, the next time you touch my book, I'll boil you alive and serve you to my cow of a mother. Hopefully she'll choke and put you both out of my misery." She said, glaring at you before grabbing her book and placing it under her pillow. She then laid down and turned away from you "I want my mother dead in two days. If you don't succeed I'll tell the clerics you brainwashed me and Isaac. Get to work, useless trash." She said, before growing silent as she glared at a wall.
You stand up, rubbing the sore spot on your back as you recover from the exchange.
Silently, you limp out of Elena's room, glaring at her for a brief second before shutting the door. With a hiss of pain, you are airborne and fly off towards the Basement and eventually the sewer, the trip easy thanks to both walking the path and also possessing a map.
As you enter the basement, you find that the rats have effectivly cleaned everything. And by clean, they pushed everything into the sewer.
One rat in particular, covered in webs and missing a chunk of its hind quarters, had thoughts that shouted out to you "Door. Find. Webs. Shells. Pain"
The rat was bleeding to death and likely would not survive much longer, your compulsion likely bringing back to this point.
The ten gold counters is tempting, but imo not worth it
I also want to gain size, but it's too early - we might miss some important things like regeneration, which should be essential
Telepathy also looks very good, but mostly in our current situation (since we're weak) and I don't want us to end up relying on manipulation rather than pure power of rip and tear/magic, so...
Regen+ telepathy Wins
You placed your coins on Mammon's palm, and watched as he once more crsuhes and melts the coins, pouring the liquid metal over you.
You feel the gold seep in through your ears as the bronze drills into your body and encases every cell. The agony is almost unbearable.
You wake up with a start, flying immediately into the air and barely stopping yourself in time from hitting the ceiling. You calm you frantic breathing, and hold your hands up. You feel...newer. Your body felt pure, as if the harshness of the day had melted away in your sleep.
[Healed 2 hp]
With a firm nod, you flew into the main part of the Basement, and looked at your option, feeling rested and ready for the night.
On your right was the sewers, where the drons were and where you had kidnapped your fairy from. On your left was the closed study, your fairy locked within along with a large collection of daemonic knowledge. Ahead of you was the stiars to the main floor and the rest of the mansion, where the mortals lived.
You have about 6 more hours until the night ends.
Take a deep breath, you close your eyes as you collect your thoughts. The word of power was not simple magic, it was both a authoritive demand and a humble request to the world itself to change according to your wishes. The balance must be kept, else the world will simply ignore your pleas. No man controls the earth, it merely is willing to take requests if one asks in the right way.
Gathering your energy and breath, you speak loud and proudly, the oratory liek that of a pride demon speaking over his army. "Àirde na Gaoithe!"
As soon as the words leave your mouth, a massive hurricane like wind blasts from behind you and down the tunnel, feeding the flame slike a fire storm and causing an explosion of heat and death to rocket down the tunnel.
The chirping stopped, and there was no sound in the darkness.
You move forward into the tunnel, smelling burnt flesh and charred sewage as you move along. Eventually, you come to a hollow black carapace of chitin, the flesh burned away leaving nothing but ash and armor. There are around five such things when you arrive.
However, there are still three living Dron, small half domed shaped insects with six legs alone its perimeter. They seemed to be disoriented, trying to dig through stone unsuccessfully and bumping into their fallen comrades blindly.
Just a couple feet behind them, seemed to be a still burning corpse of some different creature. the damage was to extensive, but you could tell it had a chitinous shell as well.
One of the drone starts scuttling towards you.
Lunging at the Dron, you swipe your claws at its shell, letting out a roar of blood lust. You expect gore, blood, a cry of agony as your claws swing with enough force to cut the air.
Instead your hands hurts and you recoil from the strike. Looking at the Dron, it's shell was damaged, a there was a light streak of blood, but it was only a flesh wound.
[Did one damage to Dron. Dron [Hard shell] ability activated]
The Dron seems to register the attack, but then continued to move along, not concerned with the itchiness on its shell.
The other Dron seem to be waddling over to the shellls of their comrades and trying to drag them deeper into the tunnel.
Critical fire spark
Your pushed the magic from your body, and in an instant, realize that you need to get down. Whatever wind you were going to summon is unneeded, the magical fire exploding and sending a wave of flame down the tunnel and consuming everything. You are fine, as you are effectivly immune, but the Drons that were at your feet are not, and whatever was down the tunnel sounds either at deaths door or extremely hurt.
Mor eimportantly though ,while you were creating the spark, you discovered a new trick in how to form the spell. It is now far more effective.
[Gain Fire Spark II]
The Drons that were near you are dead, ashes once more.
Eventually, you come to find the hunche dover and burned body of a 6 foot tall beetle monster, a mixture of nightmares and teeth you expect only having existed in hell itself. It begins to click and turn its head to you,. A small dron scuttles out from behind it, and is immediatly grabbed by the large creature.
With a shower of green gore and blood, the Dron's soft underside is torn open and the large creature begins to consume it. Green lines begin to glow along its carapace, and an odd smell begins to be released. It burns begin to heal as itthrows the empty shell away and picks up another Dron,
[Encounter with Dron overseer! has taken 40 damage total, has healed back ten.]
The display of cannibalism before you shouldn't have disturbed you, shouldn't have shaken your mind. You dealt with it every day in the Abyss, watching friends and siblings be consumed by your more powerful siblings.
But here, it's different/ The Drons don't fight it, in fact, from how they hug onto the Ocerseer's face, they seem to assist the creatur ein eating them.
Your mind is unfocused, and you create only a small spark of fire that snuffs itself out before long.
The overseer finishes off another Dron, standing tall and seeming healed up enough. It then begins it his and move towards you, its step stomping against the stone as it extended large scythe like claws.
Luckily though, your wind comes and halts the creatures advance, forcing it to stop and anchor itself on the walls in order to not lose ground. The wind is keeping the creature at bay but won't last long.
Finally, after fizzling out the last couple times, a sizable spark is unleashed upon your enemy. The explosion of fire engulfed your enemy, and the wind fuels the fires that have taken to forming on its body.
[10 damage done to Dron Overseer!]
The Dron let out a hiss, the winds weakened now due to your second attempt not working as well. It charged froward and extended its claws farther than you expected, and cut you across the chest, sending waves of agony across your body.
I feel like we're going to evolve right after the overseer, I wouldn't mind peeking to whoever made that sentient thought but the fact that
A. it seems to be the master of the overseer whose fighting us pretty well and
B. we dont have a defensive escape mechanism like zeldren's phase
makes me worried
>>
>>1656390
We have regeneration (for some reason) and an offensive healing tool in the form of a fire cantrip. I'm thinking as long as we utilize the latter we'll come out on top unless the overseer has some way of one-shotting us. Though if that were the case I doubt we'd still be alive. I respect your thought process, but I believe we can overcome this encounter.
>>
>>1656400
okay, as long as we set everything on fire and heal some before fucking with the next encounter I'm okay with it
>>
>>1656314
It seems like we have some control over where the fire spark manifests, would it be possible to create and detonate one where our imp roughly guesses a vital organ might be inside the overseer? I'm thinking it's brain, or its equivalent to lungs/heart?
>>
>>1656404
Also, we are at 15 hp unless I'm forgetting something. Maybe we should try to immolate ourselves before doing anything else.
[healed to maximum]
An explosion of fire once more fills the tunnel, forcing the overseer to the ground as its flesh burned and melted from the heat.
"PAIN" screamed it's mind, the creature releasing clicks and weak hisses as it stared at you.
[Beetle took ten more damage, seems to be back on deaths door]
"The overseer sounds like it's in trouble... I better leave and get the guards!" The other voice thought, before it's presence seemed to begin to fade.
The over seer swung its blade like claws for your body, cutting into your flesh again.
[lost five health, 20 total hp]
We really should try to harvest the shell for armor. Given that a small beetle was almost totally immune to our claws, this big fucker is probably made of stronger material.
>>
>>1656905
Literally all we need to do is fly up high beyond melee reach and spam fire spark and word of power. Despite their strong outerior they aren't immune to heat or fire. And even IF they manage to harm us we have regen and we heal from fire which we will be constantly throwing out.
>>
>>1656919
We're in the sewers though, so there's probably not that much headspace
>>
>>1656919
If we do get overwhelmed by whatever guards this princess was talking about, we could lead them into the house so they can take care of the mother and that little elf cunt for us. Should be pretty easy to mop up any survivors afterwards.
>>
>>1656946
Dude even this dron we're currently fighting is strong enough to almost rival us, imagine how much stronger the queens personal guard would be.. and if there are several of them.
Why do you wanna end up like Zeldren so badly? Let's just wait till we evolve, we can always come back.
We'll probably evolve within a day, so even if they're bugs - they shouldn't have much time to rebuild.
>>
>>1656951
Is he almost strong enough to rival us? I mean, sure sure he didn't instadie from our flame/wind combo, but it's not like we've been having a hard time fighting him either. Personally I voted for retreat after battle, but it's not like I did because i'm scared we're going to die. It's more of just not underestimating the enemy.
With one final snap of your fingers, the creature is consumed with flames, and falls over dead. You've won, and relief washes over you as the fight had been a close one. Had things continued, you may have been in trouble.
The. You hear an unholy and unnatural mix between clicking and screams coming from the tunnel.
Taking that as your queue, you turn and run, picking up what shells you can as you fly over them.
Two more hours passed while you were dealing with the Drons, leaving you with four hours until the elf would awaken. You were flying through the sewers still? Putting distance between you and where you last heard the screams.
Awaken
Your eyes open, and you are on your feet instantly, flecks of gold shifting in the air around you. You stand tall and look around, wondering what had happened.
You have taken your first step
You look down at your hands, and realize they ar elarger, powerful, gray skin ornate golden tattoos drawn over the skin. Your claws gradually shift from gray to gold, and what had once been spindly arms were now lean and fit.
Finding a nearby puddle, you gaze upon your reflection, and for a second, feel an old instinct to run scream out one last time. A fiend stared back at you, those creature in hell that were above Imps and were the commoners of demon society.
You had made it, you had broken the shackles of your old weakness, and now stood in the mortal word with strength earned by your own hands.
You move your body, stretching new muscle and cracking settled bones. You then try to rise from the ground, but your wings hit the wall and cannot open fully. It seems you have grown to large to fly in these sewers any more.
You inhale deeply with your new nose, and despite the horrid stench of the sewer, you can't help but appreciate the new feeling that was your body.
The fairy camp still lie dunexplored, yet now yu had true power, power enough to likely handle anything within the mortals mansion. And perhaps, enough to force that lowly elf who considers herself your master let you into the study once more.
Eventually, you mad eit back, though an hour late. You doubted that it would make much difference, and your climbed your way ou tof the sewer.
The first thing you see is the Study door wide open, Elena's voice unleashing a never ending torrent curses from within, and your fairy prisoner flying near the mouth of the sewer with their limbs dangling weakly. The fairy looks a little relieved to see you, but still frightened.
Elena was still in her night gown, and her hair was a mess. She hadn't yet prepared for the day. "Mistress, Is there something amiss?" you ask, causing the elf girl to turn around to stare at you with panicked eyes.
"It's about ti-Woah!" She shouted, falling onto her back and backing up rapidly. It took her a second, buty she eventually recognized you and glared "Damn it you Imp, make up your mind on how you look!" She shouted, turning back to what she was doing "Quick, gather anything that looks like its important! We don't have much time, have your useless garbage fairy carry something with her teeth or something."
The fairy shrunk away, looking around for something she could actually lift with her teeth.
"Mistress, I'm afraid I'm lost. What are you so worried about?"
Elena turned and glared at your with unease and frantic anger "Isaac ratted us out last night! He took your gold and told the Clerics! The traitor left a note on my breakfast this morning, telling me so! Jerk must have thought it was funny!" She said, turning back to start piling more scrolls and books.
this:
Isaac may have taken the gold to himself, without having talked the priests about it and that will make them suspicious.
First: tell the lady to fucking calm down and go to the authorities to denounce Isaac of thief. Addtionally, she will retrieve a golden statue of the like from the mansion, in order to make it look like Isaac has melted that to make the "misterious lump of gold" that a demon gave it to him. He is alredy known to hate the masters and othe rservants might testify against him. He doesn´t seem like a really nice man to be honest.
Second: If some demonologist back in the day lived in the place or/and time of torches and pitchforkes, they might have devised some simple tricks to disguise demonic presence. The study is full of demon-related books. A biography of such a demonologist, with a trick like that detailed in it may not be so rare. I mean, they could be different versions of the same general spell, as covering your tracks is Demonology 101. We search for it, we learn it and we erase any proof of our presence here through magic shenanigans. See if the fairy can help us with that.
Third: If everything fails, we better be ready for the nuclear option, When we find the biography and apply the spell, we should start with the ritual of the gate to hell. Leave it ready to trigger and look for a preserved goblin tooth in the study
>>
>>1658853
We would know, since we will tell her to claim that she saw him and that he ran away.
Well she can't seriously expect the two of us running off with a library of demonic knowledge in our arms and NOT be chased by the authorities. Try to get her full attention away from piling loot so she can listen to why her plan is shit.
If we can't find a spell to help disguise/hide the library, we should just cart whatever incriminating literature and materials into the sewer. Worse case, we can take our pick of the treasure and burn the rest while we make our escape.
Realization begins to set in her eyes as you continue "You are nobility, and he's been very vocal about his distaste for your mother. If anything, it will buy us time to think of a few more steps."
Elena is quiet for a second, then nods as she stands "Good idea. I'll go make myself presentable and head out. In the mean time, make sure everything is ready in case they investigate anyways or the plan fails."
You rush out of the room, ready to pertify whatever bettle monster stood in your domain. However, when you exited the study, you had to turn your gaze up to see the face of what was threatening Elena.
Standing easily seven feet tall, and weidling a spear made of metalic chitin, a large Humanoid Dron stood before you. It was releasing low chirping noises as it tilted its head and looked at Elena, the hissing seeming to be just how it breathed.
It sniffed the air, and twitched the wings on its back, before shooting its gaze at you, staring you right in the eyes as its head tilted.
"The smell of ashe and magic...and brimstone. This is the fire bringer."
It stepped forward, swinging its arm and smacking Elena away, the gril flying five feet and holding her arm in pain as she seemed shocked.
It leaned down to look closer at you.
"Magic...wait, a presense...not the princess...
A large alien smile spread across the creatures face, its pupils growing small and its eyes growing larger. It then spoke.
"So, you can read mind Fire bringer? how interesting, very unique." It said, sound almost condescending.
Success!
You grab hold of the insectoids arm, and immediatly pump your curse through it, the chitin and flesh quickly shifting to gold. The Creature's eyes widened, and it threw you away towards a wall/ It then grabbe dits rapidly shifting arm and ripped it off, green blood splattering across the floor as it tossed the arm away. Muscles and flesh quickly forme dover the wound, and though its side was drenched in green, it seem to be for the mos tpart fine.
[Enemy has dealt 10 damage to themselves. No longer being turned to gold.]
"Clever little monster." It said, twirling its spear and then aiming to tip towards you "Seems you won't be such easy prey after all." It said, charging forward ready to impale you on the spear.
Elena has begun to try and ascend the stairs, limping as she does, to escape the basement.
With the practiced hand of an expert, you weave your arcane will into a concentrated point. Then, a fire ball about a foot wide formed infront of creature, a smirk on your face as you saw its eyes look at it.
Your gaze turned to shock as in a flash, it one of its arms went out and grabbed the fire ball and attempted to throw it aside.
You detonate the fire ball, but the bug managed to toss it aside just in time. It was still caught in the fiery explosion, almost knocking it over and severely knocking it off course, but it quickly reoriented itself and charged, the flames seeming to not wish to set the supposedly flammable enemy ablaze.
[Enemy has taken ten damage. Twenty damage total!]
It's spear stabs forward, you trying to dodge but the creature still fast and skilled. The blade stabs into your side, but you manage to break away.
You feel your regeneration start to kick in, thankful for the power boost it got. Your wound quickly began to heal.
[Took ten damage, healed back 5, five damage total taken]
"So, you are just fool of nasty little tricks aren't you fire bringer?" The creatures says, seeming thrilled to fight you. It opens its mouth and begins to drool over the tip of its spear, the bodily fluid sizzling and boiling as it made contact with your blood on the spears tip.
Partial success
You delve into the creatures mind, and are immediatly bombarded with surface thoughts. Where to strike, when to disengage, doubts, confidence, longing, curiosity, even thoughts of mating are filling the creatures mind. The creature smirk, despite you managing to dodge his stab with what information you could gather. Your head was pulsing, waves of pain from the informational overload.
"Good Fire bringer, spread those wings, stretch your sense. Relying only on your basic abilities will only get you so far!" He shouted, spinning his spear. He then spat up a large ball of saliva, and swatted it towards you with his spear, sending it out in a cone.
You duck under the spray of saliva, watching it strike the stone floor and begin to sizzle and melt the stone. With new found determination to stay dry, you form another fire ball behind your enemy.
It wasn't as big as the last one, but because it appeared in their blind spot, the creature had little time to react. The explosion threw the creature forward towards you, it seeming dazed from the sudden attack. It was still smiling.
Flames exploded from the creatures wound, instantly cooking the meat and splintering the chitin as the inner cavity filled with flame. The creatures eyes melted and its mouth unleashed an inferno as the fire sought to escape the fleshy prison any way possible.
The fire was fueled by the flesh and the chitin, and by the time the flames died, barely anything was left inside the charred exoskeleton of the creature. It ceased to move, and fell limp to the ground, muscles burned away.
It was releasing an unbearable clicking noise, and its dried flesh cracked as its smile returned, hissing escaping from its body as it's face grew close to yours.
The fairy let out a squeak of panic, hiding away, as you felt the blood drain from your face from shock.
When the creature's face was just an inch from yours, it shuddered and reared back, it's head convulsing a bit. It unleashed a weak growl, which quickly turned into a delighted, yet refined, giggle.
"Oh bravo, bravo. Truley a spectacular fight, honor to all the combatants." The voice said, sounding young and feminine and seeming to just come out of the unspeaking burnt bug, who had a look of surprise and fear on his face.
"Pr-princess!" It said weakly, shakingly.
"Oh yes my stinging prince, it is I your wonderful Princess. You seem to have been beaten by that 'cowardly' fire bringer in honorable combat."
The bug seemed to lose even more color, despit enow being almost entire Ashe black "Pri-princess I still live, I can still kill this creature!" He shouted at the voice, seeming to reached for his spear. His arm fell off, Ashe and charred chitin falling to the ground.
"Oh I'm sorry, but you only still live because I allow it. Once I've finished my exchange with the fire bringer, I'll be letting go of your soul." The princess said casually, as if it didn't matter.
"Y-you can't!" The big shouted, and then screamed in agony as he once more caught fire, this time not from you. The fire quickly died, but the bug was still affected.
"I most certainly can. You said I could. Your words were "I bet my life I'll defeat the cowardly fire bringer.' " the princess said mockingly, the prince looked tired and scared " Now hush, enjoy what time you have left while I talk to the victor."
The prince seemed to deflate, shivering as the princess seemed to direct her attention to you.
"Now then, tell me Fire bringer, what did you think of your duel with the Prince?"
>What do you do?
I would of preferred it if it was in the sewers, so I wouldn't of had to have held back for fear of burning this building down.
>>
>>1662981
I wonder what would happen if we had the prince say "i will serve you my lord" while he is still possessed.
>>
>>1662981
Spectacular.
>>
>>1663003
Maybe we could try to bargain with the prince? Tell him we can keep his soul on mortal plane as long as he serves us. Then he will have opportunity to prove himself to his princess.
>>
>>
>>1663044
She has the power to kill him at any moment, as the prince´s soul is her possesion. However, if he swears loyalty to us her sou would be under Hell´s control, not the Queen´s.
What about we ask her for a minutes of conversation with the prince, as we desire to taste the final words of such a fine champion. Then we make the prince the offer to swear loyalty to us.
>>
>>1663044
>>
>>1662981
Terribly easy
>>
>>1663079
Not worth trying because he might say "I will serve you" except it's the queen that really said it and now you have a spy as well as someone who might potentially snap your neck when you aren't looking.
I don't think it's just his soul that's in her possession, it's his biology
>>
>>1663135
She has stated that its his soul what is in her possession and her servant acknowledges that.
Also, I think that basic biology doesn´t apply when talking about insanely quick evolving bugs. Even if you try to justify everything on pheromones, real time communication is impossible if magic isn´t involved.
Also, think this: if it is the queen that is saying that she will serve us, then she will become loyal to us. If somehow that doesn´t work, we can easily check the prince´s thoughts with telephathy.
Either we try and fail, learning more about our and the Queen´s powers interactions or we suicced and win a very powerful ally. It is a win-win scenario.
>>
>>1662981
>It was fun. A good test of my abilities. I'll probably end up missing fights like this when I take my rightful place at the top. Fights where I was actually challenged.
Also, I have an idea.
Let's play up our powers while talking to the Dron queen in a casual manner and make a truce with her. Play off your initial aggression with that you needed power but no longer see any reason to fight them. Maybe compliment her(drone queen) on the way she handles her subordinates.
In exchange for us no longer attacking them, they won't attack us. Additionally, we threaten with hiring strong mercenaries/adventurers to destroy her hive.
She'll probably accept since she needs time as well, to rebuild her hive, and while she might go back on her promise, we don't plan to keep our end of the bargain anyway. We just need time right now. Time to read books, and get the whole ordeal with Isaac and possible church (clerics?) sorted out.
"To be honest, it was quite boring. No challenge in the slightest, especially since it seems your prince wasn't taking the battle seriously from the every start. Even if he had, he would never had stood a chance." You say, taking a small bit of prid eof watching the anger rise in the prince.
The princess let out a laugh "Oh wonderful, you aren't a bumbling coward. Yes, he did atrociously. A waste of my time completely and utterly."
You nod "Yes, in fact, it makes me regret my actions against your hive."
"Oh, the fire bringer feels remorse for breaking my toys?"
"No, for wasting my time. I attacked because I sought to get stronger, but if the prince is your greatest, then I don't think I need to bother anymore." You say, noting an amused chuckle from the princess as you continued "I don't think I'll bother anymore, so how about a truce?"
"oooh, diplomacy, aren't you just a man of many talents?" The Princess said, unclear weather she was being sarcastic or genuine.
"I won't attack you anymore, and in return, you leave me be so I don't slaughter whoever you send. I have things to do, and even if I'm to busy to handle you myself, I could always alert some adventurers to your location." You say, staring at the princess through the Prince.
There was silence, and then a uncontrolled laugh of great amusment from the Princess. It was almost mocking, but also seemed light hearted. "Oh, what are powerful ego. A strong sense of self, and almost an arrogance of power." The Princess let out a sigh, a happy and content one "Oh you'll do nicely for sure. "You'll be coming to my court, and we'll work together to eradicate this little hive of mortals. My court needs a strong male, and I could use a new fiancee, now that the prince has decided to be killed." She said casually, her voice sounding excited and animated "Oh it'll be glorious. You'll be my fire spewing king, and I'll rise up to a true queen of a true hive."
Her voice took a sharp turn, becoming hostile and serious "of course, if you refuse, I'll simply have to send my brother, and I'm quite sure he'll find you before you find anyone foolish enough to kick the 'hornets nest' as the mortals say."
yes, yes, you have made a wonderful stick, but I fail to see the carrot to give me an incentive to treat with you. Besides, I am a demon, one free to rule this plane and do what I see fit. Being stuck to a hive to a queen I can't breed with is going to leave both of us rather unhappy.
>"Let me let you in on a little secret - the truth is that I have in fact already alerted, as much as I hate to say it - mercenaries even more powerful than I to eradicate your hive.. they were very expensive but as you've probably noticed, gold comes rather easily for me. I merely figured I'd make their jobs easier by catching you unprepared. If you manage to survive this, however - then I will most definitely reconsider your offer. I highly doubt you will though."
>Finish off the Dron Prince to end the conversation with the last word.
This way, the Dron queen will definitely try to bolster their own defenses or if we're lucky, flee. This will get them off our backs for a while, just as we wanted in the first place.
>>
>>1664142
Nah, just say that we've made a bit of a stir in the humans and they are sending some of their warriors to beat us. And what they'll do when they find the burned out corpse of a Drone lying in the house and a demon standing there, warning of a potential danger to the town.
>>
>>1664142
We could, but it would achieve the same effect at best. Better not reveal our current dilemma, lest she take advantage of it somehow.
See the thing is, if we claim to be under contract to our master and shit. We can probably convince them that none of what we've done or agreed to do is our goal and that we would kinda like to get to our own shit of fighting against this hive which they would probably agree to help us with. Admittedly they'd betray us later and all but still.
Plus, I find mine is a little more believable than your claim of mercs and shit.
Critical success!
"Come here," you say, motioning the fairy closer. Hesitantly, she approaches, and flinches when your hand slowly goes out pats her head. "I need you to say something for me."
"Wuh?"
You look her in the eye "In exchange, I will make sure you stay safer then your would have had I not found you, and make sure you live better then what you were destined for. Say that you will serve me, say it and mean it, and I will be a benevolent master."
The fairy seemed to have a rise of anger in her, but you continued "You will gain power under me, and you will be able to live without fear of the mortals or other creatures killing you just for existing. I do not care what your people did, only what you do now." You placed a hand on her head, and she stares at you " All you have to say, is 'I will serve you my lord'. Say that, and I will heal your limbs and you will follow me to greatness and power." You said, staring at her as she seemed to consider it. "The Drons will come, and so will the humans, and I can't protect something that will not help me. So, say the words..."
The fairy looks at you, then seems to internally argue with herself for a couple seconds, you waiting patiently.
She then lets out a shaking sigh, and speaks "I-I will s-serve you my lord..."
You sigh "again, you have to mean it. Do not lie to me..."
She nods, then takes a deep breath, leaning into your hand. "I will serve you my Lord.."
And like that, magical tattoos formed where your hand lies, a chain link forming on her forehead. Her eyes flashed gold, and like that, she was yours.
She floated up and began to look around before looking to you "What will you have me do master?" She said, sounding happy.
Alright, looks like it's a tie. Writing
>>
She pulls out a story book, from th elooks of it, a very old one. "It's a copy of a mortal epic, taking place a little after the Dark war. It has a prince searching for a princess, and along the way he gains some monsters as allies." She said, opening the book. It was a large book, almost as big as the fiary and almost as thick. How she was holding it was a mystery.
"My favorite character is Ozimandius, a demon of malevolent Rule, who befriended the prince and became one of his greatest assets in their journey." She said, showing the page to you.
On it was a demon adorned in gold jewels and wearing a belt of stolen crowns. Next to him was a human prince, looking like a strong noble warrior. Alongside them, was a female goblin warrior, a fairy with a bow, and some veiled and cloaked individual that stood slightly separated from them.
Along the edges, there appeared to be attempts at translation of the book to a fairy language, pronunciations for words along the margins.
"It was a really popular story early after the war, cause it showed people a future that could be bright and unified despite what happened...but then it never came to be." She said sadly, closing the book.
>[Gained item, written in copy of the Lost Princess]
The fairy began to tuck the book away "i think though Master, we should focus on the coming threat. Thje human clerics act fast and without mercy. Since the Slaughter of Greenwatch, they've been given almost full authority to do whatever they need to do to stop demon incursions." She said, flying over to a pile of papers and books and beginning to stack them up.
You rise up and brush yourself off, picking up the chitin spear as you turn to leave. "I'm going to go make sure Elena hasn't done something stupid." You say, walking off and leaving the Fairy behind. She quickly flies to follow you, and you both. Grin to ascend the stairs to the manor proper.
"Shouldn't we pack up to leave? Why do you care for that disrespectful sow so much?" The fairy asked, hovering over your shoulder and leaning forward to talk to you.
Failure
It's broad daylight, the house is at its most active, a girl just walked through screaming in all likelihood of a monster in the cellar. Your progress through the mansion is quickly discovered by a servant, who immediatly runs screaming "Demon!"
It's only a matter of seconds before the entire house is in an uproar at your presense.
>You are able to grab 4 things, three for you and one for the Fairy to carry.
You leave behind a fire ball the size of your torso, it's flames burning strong and bright as you descend into the sewer. You run through the sewer tunnel as fast as you can, the tunnel to small for you to fly now. Once you were far enough away, you released the spell.
A thunderous boom was muffled by distance and stone, but it still shook the tunnels you were in. So great was the shaking, that the tunnel you had just come from collapsed, blocking your passage to return to the mansion.
The deed was done, you were free of the mansion, and now truley on your own. But where would you go?
The sewer held enemies of its own, the Dron princess and her hive. She swore to punish you for rejecting her, and now you were trapped seemingly within her territory.
No doubt the clerics would be informed as well, and the city that lied above would be searching for any trace of your existance.
Your fairy servent holds onto your wing, looking at your with gold hued eyes, searching for direction.
You pat the worried head of your fairy, then reach out to some rats that ar enearby. "Tell me fairy, do you know a way to this location?" You ask, showing the fairy the map. According to the image, it seemed that the sewers were beneath a large city, with the cultist site being within a large graveyard in the center of the city.
The fairy shook her head "No master, I know how to exit the sewers so we're outside the city, but I don't know much about going deeper."
You roll your eyes and begin to move forward, the fairy stuttering more information "b-but I do know where you can find goblin fangs, like what you need for the summoning circle that diagram you read talked about." She said, loking happy when you looked back to her.
"Yes, there's a zoo here in the city, I passed under it when I was still traveling. They have a whole tribe in captivity, for entertainment and study." she says, smiling when she sees approval.
The rats come to you, and begin to lead you towards the Cultist site.
It'll take you an hour to make the journey, so what do you do to pass the time?
[New spell: Flesh warp I: Rolling Int, make physical contact with an enemy. If the enemy fails to resist, you warp their flesh. First rank does only light damage.
New Spell: Flesh shift: Rolling int, use spell on either yourself or a target. temporarily change their appearance. Cannot make a creature look like another species.]
Finally, the rats bring you beneath the graveyard, and at that point are no longer of any help. The Cultist site is somewhere above you, but the map is not entirely clear.
>>
>>
Bronze tokens are awarded for "physical" demonic acts.
They correspond to the sorts of demons we conventionally imagine as warriors: big hulk motherfuckers that heal off damage, have acid for blood and claws like knives and shit. Primarily they are used to enhance and develop physical abilities.
Thus, fighting and killing and torture can grant these tokens.
>Though then again, I'd rather remain lean and smallish daemon, rather than becoming a huge brute.
True. Though in a large city nobody is none the wiser if a few go missing. Easy tokens right there, specially if they hide in the sewers themselves.
>Limited shape-shifting or something seems like an ability a demon would have.
True. I'm hoping the bronze evolution will not be detrimental to us by making us a huge target/beast/brute that cannot really do sneaky shenanigans anymore.
He's an intelligent archdemon that has destroyed civilizations with intricate manipulation, not a pajeet scammer that only seeks a quick buck
We are a good source of counter income - why would he want to ruin our relationship?
+ he says
"Our brothers and sisters have begun to notice you young one...Do not disappoint..."
>>
>>1674804
And? Simple fact is that he is the only one we can buy upgrades like this from. So he can treat us like a little bitch if he really wanted to.
As to that second line, it probably has something to do with us changing form and killing that Drone.
>>
>>1674650
Never underestimate the willingness of anons to gamble everything on a mystery box, no matter how stupid it might be.
Similarly, never underestimate the convoluted double-think that people can engage in to assure themselves that their impulses are totally rational. Just look at homeopathy. People can convince themselves that water is more than just H2O and that it has a "memory" of substances it has come into contact with even if the water contains nothing but water molecules. People can convince themselves of anything, no matter how unreasonable, so long as they want it to be true.
>>
>>1674804
So our siblings find us interesting to watch, that doesn't mean they wouldn't find it funny to watch us get screwed over, and why shouldn't screw us over? Our relationship? We rely on him for upgrades, there is no relationship. We give him all of our sins and then he can screw us over with no repercussion, then what? Go buy our upgrades somewhere else? He sold us a service fair and square, and we'll just have to go back to him next dream. Mystery box is stupid beyond the first time, stop thinking a demon won't choose to screw you over when he has no reason not to.
>Vision of a future ally shown.
You bathe once more in the molten metal of sin, and you feel the magic within strengthen. Your briefly hear the cries of various animals, dogs, cats, and other medium animals.
Then, as you begin to wake, you see a face. Behind her, a looming shadow that smelled of blood. They were in the move, nearing the city. They would arrive tomorrow, and they would be within the city for the foreseeable future.
They will be a great ally, and if angered, a frightening enemy.
You can wake up as the face smiles at you hungrily, the fairy floating above you. "Master? Are you alright? You were trashing in your sleep..." she said concerned, backing away as you rose up to sit.
"I'm fine. Just visiting family." You say simply, standing and then looking up to the darkened surface above through a bared sewer grate.
It was night, and the graveyard above was silent.
Nowhere in that option was that implied.
>>
>>1675112
Honestly, I totally don't see why people would actually look at that option and think it was a good deal. It doesn't give us anything long term, and it doesn't even give us much in the short term. We had pretty much no guarantee that a one-shot vision of a potential ally might actually play out. Who knows what might happen in the mean time, we could easily never end up crossing paths.
It's almost as bad as the mystery box.
It's worse than the mystery box. The mystery box could actually have contained something of great value like invisibility or another transmutation ability or something.
With a flux of magical power, you command the presense of a beast. No vermin would come, and no pests would waste your time. From a pocket hidden beneath the stone, feeding upon to long forgotten dead, came a Dire plague rat.
It's fur was matted and falling away, and it smelled of disease, but it held muscles that were strong and was the size of a large dog.
The fairy flew behind you, clutching your wings and hiding herself out of fear of the creature, which looked up at your with pale leaking eyes.
It coughed, and blood mixed with maggots came out. The fairy held back a gag.
The rat let out a mix of a dry heave and a squeak, before running off. It eventually got to the great and simply shoved its head through bars, the pulled its whole body through with very little issue. A clump of fur stuck to the bars, and the rat was gone to scout and seek for its master.
The fairy grimaced "Must we keep such horrid company master? That creature is filthy..." she said, then looked as you chuckled.
"Says the fairy whose been living in the sewers for the passed couple of days." You said, listening to the various thoughts that came from the rat, hoping to hear anything useful from its journey.
The fairy puffed her cheek then sighed "I miss being clean...what is our plan now master? I mean, after we find the Shrine? Surely we can't hide from the clerics or the Drons forever, especially if we stay in the city..."
[It'll take the rat an hour to find the shrine, so you have an hour to kill]
Pulling out the diagram, you quickly begin to examine it. Fire and magama literally fuel the Fire demon, acting as its blood and breath. WHile a fire demon burns everything in its path, it grows more powerful. However, should they be without fire for to long, they would snuff out and die. The information is interesting, and makes you fear what sorry state you would be in had you become a Fire Fiend.
As you do this, you hand th Tome of lesser Animation to Salila. "Here, it's about time you start expanding what knowledge you have." She takes the book and looks at it, the tome being as large as she was and almost being able to cover her whole body.
The fairy nodded, smiling as she began to read the tome in earnest, happy to try and be more powerful in any real way.
Your body shifts once you've analyzed the diagram enough, and you feel fire brun from within your body.
[Gain Fire Breath I: Breath a stream of fire that can be maintained for up to three attacks. Roll intelligence for damage and how long the flames linger.]
[Fairy learned a new spell:Lesser animation: Can animate small simple Figurines, dolls, and other movable shaped objects of similar size.]
The rat returned, breaking through stone and causing the fairy to let out a scream before flying once more behind you.
The rat was very energetic, and seemed ready to lead you to the cultist site.
You eventually reach an ancient tomb, the door torn open likely by the Dire rat. Within, there were skeletons and destroyed alters.
Have the rat and fairy begin cleaning while we get to checking the surrounding area for anything useful and to make sure there's nothing we need to kill.
Once that's done, we should probably get to reading and maybe a bit of hunting / finding some fights / summoning animals in order to get bronze tokens.
"You to clean up, I'm going to look around, see if I can find anything or anyone." You say, turning to leave. You feel a tug on your wing from the fairy.
"B-but master, Couldn't I go with you?" She asked, looking at the rat warilly, which was already pushing things into piles with its head.
You shake your head "No, the rat doesn't have the intelligence you do, so I;ll need you to help it clean. Beside, you wouldn't be that much help in a fight as you are." You say, then leave to search while the fairy glumly returns to cleaning, retreating to about ten feet into the air when the rat hisses at her.
