You are the TEMPLAR, a holy knight sent to clear the frontier of monsters and heresy!

"I though you said some guys from the Church were coming to help us out." Naru grunts in annoyance.

You nod in confirmation as you keep an eye on the road. You and your party had left the Fortress Monastery earlier in the morning and traveled into the thick, endless forests surrounding Eisenwand. Thankfully, there weren't many roads leading out of the city deeper into the Frontier, leaving only a few leading to smaller settlements like Aldenshire. It was all a matter of picking out the path where attacks were the most common. Morgan picked out an almost perfect hide spot for you to wait in, while she ranged out to perform some scouting on her own.

You were tempted to follow her, but your poor showing last time convinced you otherwise.

"Don't worry, they'll come!" Nino assures her, petting Romulus. "Valentia's mom seemed like a really nice person!"

"You know, you talk about that kid's mom a lot but you never actually told me her name." Naru squints.

"Oh! I never said that?" Nino frowns. "Well, it's Solana!"

And that's when you note Naru's face go absolutely white. Were the two acquainted somehow? Then again, they were both clerics...

"I. Cannot. Be. Seen. By. Her." Naru wheezes.

"Why not?" Nino tilts her head curiously.

You tilt your head curiously as well, completely in sync with Nino.

"We got a past, okay?" Naru grumbles and looks away. "I'd rather we don't meet again."

"Ow...!" Nino whines.

"Uggggh, this is not gonna work!" Naru groans. "I'm just gonna step out, okay? Solana's a way better healer than I am, anyways. You probably won't even notice."

You shake your head in resignation and allow Naru to take her leave. She quickly stomps off, but she pauses for a second and looks back. Nino takes in a breath of anticipation...

...but Naru continues on her way.

"Why didn't you stop her?!" Nino pouts as she repeatedly pounds her fists against you chestplate.

You sigh and gently push Nino away so her arms are just flailing uselessly in the air.

"It's just... Solana's really nice!" Nino sniffs. "I don't know why Naru doesn't like her..."

However, your conversation is interrupted when you hear approaching footsteps. You turn your head to see Valentia and Solana finally approaching. Valentia was in her typical Paladin armor, but Solana was wearing standard cleric robes, and her wings were nowhere in sight. Probably to maintain a lower profile. You step out of the hide spot and wave at them to come over.

"Oh dear, I though Naru would be with you?" Solana frowns when she reaches your little hide spot.

You just shrug and shake your head.

"She was being a big meanie and left because we told her you were coming!" Nino pouts with a bluntness only children as young as her were capable of.

"Oh dear, I'm so sorry." Solana sighs.

You quickly shake you head and pat Solana on the shoulder. None of this was her fault and she shouldn't blame herself for it.

"You're right." Solana nods. "And where is Morgan?"

You point into the forest. Out scouting.

"You mean she's been gone all this time?" Valentia frowns. "Perhaps she's in trouble?"

Thankfully, your patience is rewarded when Morgan's hooded figure melds out of the brush.

"Oh, Valentia, Solana, good to see you two here." She nods and then pauses. "Where's Naru?"

You shake your head.

"Ah, I see." Morgan glances at Solana and immeidately deduces the answer. "Anyways, I think I got a lead. Small camp, lightly guarded. can't be more than four or five sentries, but given the size, there has to be at least two dozen people stationed there. I think rest are out in the forest conducting their 'business.'"

"So that means it's lightly guarded." Solana nods. "An easy opportunity to strike."

"But if their camp is destroyed, that might cause the other bandits to disperse, making it even harder to find them." Valentia frowns.

"Maybe that's what we need to do." Morgan counters. "If these guys really are Elven military, they're far more dangerous working together as a pack. Scattering means we can take them out piecemeal."

You make a fist and punch your palm with it, indicating that you wanted to wait and strike down the whole group at once.

"I suppose that could work, but it would require some doing." Morgan frowns. "Me, Valentia, and you can form a perimeter to pen them in while Nino bombards the camp, with Solana supporting her. That way, all we'd have to do is take care of the stragglers."

"But that would leave us dangerously exposed." Valentia frowns. "And vulnerable to getting flanked and overwhelmed."

"If it's Nino casting, they'll probably be too panicked to fight effectively." Morgan says confidently.

"Yeah! I can cast a really mean fireball!" Nino grins.

"Well, there's nothing stopping us from enlisting the aid of more adventurers..."

"That's going to take time." Morgan sighs.

"Are you saying we should have someone stage a diversion to draw their attention?" Solana grins.

You shake your head and step forward. volunteering yourself to be the diversion. It's been a while since you've laid down some justice against some Elves, after all.

"Well, I suppose a Templar would be the one to jump at a chance to face down Elves." Valentia sighs. "All right, we'll leave it to you, then."

"Remember, we're going to be in positions to cut off avenues of retreat." Morgan warns. "If you get into trouble, you can't count on us to help you out."

You nod. You understand the risks.

And predictably enough, you do attract attention, as you hear shouting and the sounds of rapid movement in the distance. That was good. Elves were normally silent when moving and difficult to hear. The fact they were making so much noise was evidence that they had been caught off guard.

Immediately, you see one of the Elven sentries burst out of the brush. One lightning swing of your halberd caves his chest in and he's sent flying back into the foliage like rag doll.

Almost immediately, you find yourself surrounded be at least a dozen Elven warriors, all of them brandishing swords and clubs. The type of weapon typically employed by bandits.

They were packed in close together. Good.

You drop your torch to the ground at your feet, leaving that arm free. The gathered Elves around you hesitate, waiting to see what you're going to do.

And then you give them a single, raised finger. A signal in a language that is universal among all languages.

And that's enough to convince them to come charging in at you.

>FATE POINT gained!
>You now have 2 points!

The Elven attack ends in disaster for them. First you swing your halberd in a wide arc, its wider reaching giving you the range advantage and forcing the Elves charging at you from the front to take a step back, breaking their momentum.

Immediately, you let the momentum of your swing spin you around to catch to the two other Elves trying to hit you from behind. Your halberd's axe point cuts into the side of one them, eliciting a pained scream, while you give the other knife eared assailant a solid punch to the face with your armored fist.

At this point, it seems that you've drawn the attention of the Elves, as you feel a odd, prickly feeling in the air. The unmistakable sensation of mana building up in the air...

Suddenly, there's a rush of hot air that sweeps through the trees as a bright orange flare lights up the darkness. A furious river of flame dances and weaves through the forest as the entire bandit camp is set alight.

"The camp!" One of the Elves yelps.

There's another flash and a flurry of screams as a ray of fire sweeps across you, searing straight through the clumped up Elves like a scythe through wheat. Three Elves instantly go down in pieces, while the remainders flee back towards their burning camp.

You look up to the trees at the source, where Nino waves happily before being yanked back into cover by a concerned Solana.

Well, it looked like this sector was clear at the moment. You look around, your vision dazzled by the flames as you try to figure out where to go next.

>Go assist Morgan.

Solana is here to cover Nino, and the others can cover themselves, more or less. We're best served continuing the distraction.

You trust the others to be able to handle themselves. Valentia and Morgan were skilled and experienced, and Nino had Solana backing her up. There was only one way to go.

Forward.

Your halberd hefted and at the ready, you trudge forward slowly to certainly, the flames getting hotter as they lick at your black armor.

Finally, you reach the burning camp, where you can see the panicking Elves rushing to and from the seared tents, salvaging whatever they can. In particular, there were a few gathered around the largest tent in the center of the camp. It looked as if they were hastily tearing down the cloth structure to get the flames away from whatever lay within.

And then you pause as you see a massive figure rise from the fallen tent. A being covered in thick tree bark that stuck to its skin like a layer of armor, looking more like a moving tree than a highly trained Elf warrior.

You had never expected to face down a Elven Forest Warden out here in the Frontier.

Your grip on your halberd tightens in anticipation. There will be great glory to be won this day!

>And that's it for tonight! Stay tuned for the next thread, which will run on Saturday as normal! And don't forget KanColle on Friday!
>Also, have a happy 4th of July for those who live in the BEST MOTHERFUCKING COUNTRY IN THE WORLD!
