+Intro+
In the grim darkness of the 41st millennium there is only war. Imperium of Man, once strong and proud, now is slowly crumbling, whole regions of space are lost to the horrors that lurk in the darkness of the void. Sector Deus is just one of the thousands of Imperial provinces that form the front line in the war to defend Humanity itself. Corruption from within and aggression from without threaten it. But the Emperor sends us hope. High Lords of Terra commissioned a Chapter of Adeptus Astartes, finest warriors Humanity has ever seen, to defend this region of space. They are the last line of defence that hold Age of Ruin at bay. They are the Ghosts of Retribution and this is their tale.

Rolled 19, 52, 97 = 168 (3d100)

New operation:

Mission Name: Operation Stormchaser

Leader: Codicer Damokleon

Members: Damokleon, Chaplain Tempestos, Apothecary, Techmarine, 5 Scouts.

Transport/Vehicles: Gladius squadron Beta.

Equipment: ~10W worth of gifts appropriate for Astartes. Gilded bolters, good quality power weapons etc.

Primary Mission:
Go to the Lysades Sector and seek out Chapter -871-. Also known by the acronym 'SD'. Suspected to be the Storm Dragons chapter. First give them a gift then find out what they know - if anything - regarding their origins and the 'Fated Chapters'. Get a basic rundown of their history, what they've been up to over their life so far, especially anything they've done involving the HLoT.

From there, follow breadcrumbs if necessary if we find names/locations of other 'fated chapters' such as the Dark Hunters or Knights of Adamant. Give them the same treatment if/when encountered.

This is a long-term intelligence gathering mission. Damokleon is to be the brains of the operation, and the diplomat to chapters that seem more 'reasonable'. Tempestos is strong of will and serves to keep his brothers on-task, and can be a diplomat to more religious chapters (a la Black Templars). The Apothecary can analyse geneseed and genetic evidence/records to establish any links between the fated chapters, and what they may have been through. The Techmarine can investigate the Armorium wing of the Storm Dragons and other fated chapters and see if there's any links or clues there. The Techmarine also has the know-how to navigate/hack digital records and so forth .

The scouts are support for combat if necessary, and can perform light reconnoitres of special places or systems their search leads them to. For example the sites of old battles involving fated chapters or whatever.

Don't let me down marines.

Meanwhile, on Pax Sepulchrum, you are in conversation with Inquisitor Garant.
>Yes, I know that. But I have a strong suspicion that he was made missing, rather then went missing. I have some leads, but confirming them so far has proven to be hard. You are among his last contacts and the Eldar whisper among themselves, that he was interested in you. While I am here to help you, don't get me wrong, I suspect that you might have had something to do with his disappearance. I believe that he had incriminating materials against you, so that wouldn't be hard to believe. But I am open minded in your case - what can you tell me about him and who could have wanted him to go missing? Do you have any contacts with any of his other assets? Yes, I know that he used you at least once or twice.

"He did have some minor incriminating evidence against us, but we were only concerned because at the time we had just - rather explosively - lost a high profile court case against the Adepta Sororitas. I'm sure you know of it, and our public image was in very poor shape. Before Faceless went missing we asked him to look into the remains of the assets of the D'anger Dynasty - who had just been apprehended by the Silent Guardians chapter for crimes against the Imperium. We never heard from him again. I suspect the Silent Guardians may have had something to do with it."

Y/N guys?

Addendum, change it to just:

"Before Faceless went missing we asked him to look into the remains of the assets of the D'anger Dynasty - who had just been apprehended by the Silent Guardians chapter for crimes against the Imperium. We never heard from him again. I suspect the Silent Guardians may have had something to do with it."
>>
>>1618920
I'd not even mention he had evidence against the GoR since his main concern seems to be information. Just gloss over it saying you had a working relationship with him and then go on to you giving him info on the D'Anger dynasty.

I'm wondering if you should warn him about their CM acting up and being MIA or not. He might go missing next if you don't give him sufficient warning about how the chapter is acting. At the same time, that might result in their chapter becoming an enemy of the =][=. Probably safe to just warn him to be careful about the Silent Guardians and how they don't tolerate people meddling.

Xyptus approaches you from the shadows.
>Milord, we almost missed it, but our spies in Tachion Primaris have picked up an encoded transmission.. It's in one of our battle codes. It's old, really old. It's out of date by decades. It seems to be a distress signal, due to poor quality (or by design?) it doesn't mean anything to us, apart from acting as a beacon, coming via hijack communications tower, but it originates somewhere deep in the underhive. There is close to zero possibility that someone from outside the Chapter could ever crack our codes. What shall we do?
a) We must react as soon as possible, order spies to gather up some hard mercenaries and go to find the source of the beacon
b) Send a squad of space marines from closest available taskforce, it's worth checking it out, but it's not urgent and extra firepower will help
c) Let's prepare a taskforce to deal with this, it must be something serious
d) Do not send anyone, this is clearly a trap
e) Inform planetary authorities about this and allow them to take action, let us see what tax payers are paying for at least once!

This, but proceed cautiously. Maintain wide positions around the underhive, concealed. Look like a small force.

Ask the Lord Inquisitor who might have access to Imperial assassins and who could've ordered such a high value hit. I mean TWO Imperial Assassins is pretty crazy.

Also I'm in favour of using an HLoT favour to get the assassins called off if no alternative are obviously available, is this viable?

>But milord, please be advised that use of unsanctioned force and military operations on Capitolis Sectorum is capital crime. If we are detected, this could mean trouble.

Leave most of the force doing a parade in the middle hives, but ready to act if absolutely necessary. Send some mercs and a squad down to recce the signal.

>Lord Admiral Hagen, you say..? Wasn't he mysteriously absent from his usual duties recently? There are quite a few rumours... What can I do for you or him? What is he doing with you?
So....are we telling him about the repeated assassination attempts? It's kind of fishy that the first was by an unsanctioned random assassin. Shines a light of disrepute on the next use of Imperial Assassins. After all if it were legitimate, why not use Imperial Assassins at first?
>>
>>1619201
Xyptus replies:
>Ursus will be aware of your presence if you will organise an official parade. Also, it will look slightly suspicious that you suddenly volunteer to organise a parade. However I might have an idea... With a bit of money I could bribe a few houses and create an illusion that they need to show off their power as soon as possible and that inviting you to come parade is the best way. We might even receive some donations and cover part of the cost this way. I expect the bribes to be in total about 15W.
>>
>>1619189
"Long story Lord Inquisitor."
Tell him the Ursus tale thus far. Provide him the eldar pendant of the recording (may as well mention it was made by an eldar we saved).
Then tell him about Hagen and the assassination attempts.
"If he were a legitimate target, why send smalltime illegal assassins first, only to use imperial assassins later? I believe someone was trying to get rid of Hagen for some reason. But we need his support to remove the heretic Ursuses. The support of the Inquisition in such an action would also be invaluable. So I ask you Lord Inquisitor, can you acquire support for us from the Deus Conclave?"

>>1619240
>I expect the bribes to be in total about 15W.
Pay it. Make sure to use scouts dressed in heavy duty civilian gear. Casually recce'ing the beacon sight and stuff, pretending they're just underhive heavies milling around. Only a brother of the chapter would be able to recognise them then.

>An Eldar you saved, you say..? Well, our esteemed Sector Governor sure has his share of sins, but the tale you are trying to spin here seems to be hard to believe, especially coming from someone who openly uses Eldar technology, stood trial for heresy and admitted to saving a xeno. What you are suggesting is nothing short of a coup, which is a treason unto itself. But it's your lucky day and you are talking to me, instead of someone with a more rigid mindset.
Garant smiles and dips his hand into one of the pockets on his vest. He produces a digital notepad, makes a few notes and then looks back at you.
>Let me see... Let's imagine that for some reason you have my vote. Valdez will not vote for you because of your close ties with Nestorium, though she might abstain instead of voting against if case is supported by stronger evidence. Braulasz is too conservative and sometimes averse to politics, he will either abstain or vote against you. Dero will most likely be opposed initially, but I can convince him. Leccu is a sly bastard, he will abstain unless you make it worth his time. Dsotoyav is a wild card, his vote can go either way. Here's my prediction of the vote in your favour:

For: 2
Against: 2
Abstain: 1
Unknown: 1?

Garant continues:
>You would most likely lose and as you understand, I am risking a lot by presenting your case. In best case scenario I will lose prestige and reputation, in worst case I might be accused of aiding treason. The only real evidence you have is Ixadiel's recording. If we bring it forth, it will distance puritans and possibly might discard my vote, because everyone at least suspects if not outright knows about my sympathy for the Eldar, so there would be a question of whether I forged it. However it might convince others. I would strongly advise you to convince Leccu to join your cause. He is the least principled of the Lord Inquisitors, I can outright bribe him, but it will be very expensive. Alternatively, you can offer to do a favour for him, Inquisitors always have uses for Space Marines. Another one that you can work on is Dsotoyav, he might be willing to listen, but he will require stronger proof than what you have now or alternatively you will have to make sure that he sees reason why and how Ursus should be removed from power. All of the Inquisitors will want to know whom do you intend to succeed. If you want to do it yourself... Well, good luck with that. I guess you'd have to assassinate half the conclave and bribe the other half, because this would in effect creation of another Ultramar and there's a high chance that it will end up in blood and fire as your Chapter is not Ultramarines, no offence. Finally, we need to discuss my compensation.

>I admire and value you openly approaching me about sponsoring your endeavour, but it will not be easy for me to pull this off. Here are my conditions:

1. Get support from the High Lords and legitimise your coup, ideally before you start it. I don't want to be a rebel.

2. You will permanently second me a squad of your marines to act as my bodyguards and followers on my missions. This will take effect as soon as coup will begin, I prefer to survive it.

3. Your new Sector will require a government. Allow me to have an input when forming it, I have a few people in mind that will be loyal and capable.

4. Serenia will be abandoned by the Imperium. Aforementioned people in the government will help us do that.

5. Chapter will owe me a single favour. It might be something serious, that could potentially require the whole Chapter to mobilise. If you are unwilling to do this, I will require a compensation of sufficient value that would allow me to get such firepower through other means, let's say around 400W. "I assure you Lord Inquisitor I have no intent of installing myself as Sector Governor. We have suitable replacements, approved by the High Lords of Terra. How might I contact Inquisitor Lords Leccu or Dsotoyav?"

>Finally, we need to discuss my compensation.

>1. Get support from the High Lords and legitimise your coup, ideally before you start it. I don't want to be a rebel.
"It is already done. The High Lords will support us so long as the coup goes smoothly with the support of several factions. Which we are working on attaining."

>2. You will permanently second me a squad of your marines to act as my bodyguards and followers on my missions. This will take effect as soon as coup will begin, I prefer to survive it.
"Fair enough. But officially they will be transferred to the Deathwatch first. Then become your personal kill team."

>3. Your new Sector will require a government. Allow me to have an input when forming it, I have a few people in mind that will be loyal and capable.
"The support of the High Lords is contingent on certain lost persons we have found being installed as the new leaders. If they wish to hear your advice or take the service of advisers chosen by you, it is up to them. I'd be happy to introduce you afterwards."

>4. Serenia will be abandoned by the Imperium. Aforementioned people in the government will help us do that.
"I'm sorry Inquisitor Lord but I made an oath to the Emperor on Terra - my blood - to protect and preserve the Imperium. Abandoning one of his worlds is unacceptable without an extremely good reason, and without any harm to the human population. However please consider...." (see next)

>5. Chapter will owe me a single favour. It might be something serious, that could potentially require the whole Chapter to mobilise. "Now this we can do. As long as it is acting against the Imperium's enemies, Inquisitor Lord, you can count on the full support of the Ghosts of Retribution. Obviously extremely extenuating circumstances may render us not completely available at certain times - for example if there's another invasion of Mormark....But if not the Chapter will do everything in its power to assist you. Scratch the last post. Scratch the parade and bribery.

Forces: Punisher Squad.
Commander: Arbitrator Sgt. Verhoff.

Go in under the radar. Ask around nearby the beacon for any unusual folk around. Discretely recon the beacon location to try and see if it's any kind of a trap. No one knows we have Arbites working for us now so they should stay incognito and low profile until they can ascertain what's giving off the beacon. If it is a marine, ID the marine. Have punisher squad take personal knickknacks left behind by honour guard marines so they can show any found marines that they work for the GoR.

Also acquire some Hive Babelion contacts while they're down there.

To help in their mission Chapter Master is going to cast visions on the beacon. Chapter Master tells Trianon and Brethorius what he's going to do before locking himself in his quarters. Meditate on the bed, remember when CM had his meditation partner to help him relax and feel calm. Rolling for visions.

I have had bad experiences in the past seconding my marines. I will have to think about that.
>3. Your new Sector will require a government. Allow me to have an input when forming it, I have a few people in mind that will be loyal and capable.
You can give your input, as can anybody else. However it is not my sector or my government, so my say in that matter might be rather limited, as I do not wish to govern.

This is a strange request. Should the need arise for you to request our aid, it should be doable because the situation requires it and the outcome furthers the Imperium of Man. For such a request, no favor is neccessary.

Maybe. Given the nature of our enemy and how forthcoming i have been, is there any knowledge about the triachy, you could share. Especially how you think they could influence/control the Ursus family and their abiliy to intervene in this power struggle, discreet or openly?

>Well, Chapter Master, I think we have a clash of viewpoints here. You see, you are asking me to do something that is not my duty and that is outside of the Imperial law, but in return you are promising to do your duty and while operating only within the Imperial law. I am afraid this will not work unless we find a way to meet on the same level. Either I can help you only within Imperial law or you will have to promise me that you will operate outside of the law if need be. Let me assure you - I am loyal to the Emperor and Imperium, however sometimes in order to serve them I have had to bend, break and avoid Imperial law. When I am asking you for a favour, it means any favour, against anyone and I don't want to be forced to ask twice. Even if I would ask you to wipe out an Imperial Guard regiment, you would have to trust me that I am operating with Imperium's best interests in mind. I understand that sometimes Space Marine Chapter Masters don't have ultimate control over their men due to exceedingly democratic practices in some Chapters. If you are unable to deliver this, I once more present you with the alternative of funding my operations either from your own pocket or the Imperial treasury. Regarding Space Marines serving Deathwatch on paper - I am fine with that, I have the greatest authority from among my peers on Deathwatch deployments within Sector Deus. Regarding Serenia... Well, it is my homeworld. I grew up there, I lived there, my base of operations for a long time was there. But sometimes sacrifices have to be made. While Serenia has some importance to the Imperium as just another world to control, the plans which I have in mind for it will bear greater fruit than a dozen worlds such as Serenia could produce over a century. Sometimes short term setbacks are required to achieve greater good. Regarding Serenia's population - believe me, I have their best interests at my heart and they will be taken care of. Finally regarding Imperial government - I get the impression that you don't want just a puppet on the throne and I can respect that, but for some reason I don't think that your candidate will be from an established house. This means that his position will be very shaky in the beginning and he will require guides and advisors. As you are the grey cardinal and muscle behind the coup, your advice will be very important. I simply want you to allow me to exert this influence on your behalf if you are not willing. I guarantee that I will ensure a strong and stable government in Tachion Primaris, that will also be a lot more accommodating in the future regarding your Chapter and your other activities. I am afraid if you want my support, this is not negotiable.

He continues:
>However I understand your worries and I am willing to sacrifice one of my assets and get you another vote in the council. Would HLoT favour work?
>>
>Well, if you are sure that it was official Temple Assassins that were dispatched, you might find it problematic to directly petition High Lords of Terra to recall them, because it means that most likely at least one of them put down his seal to approve the hunt. If they are dispatched illegitimately... Well, then something is very rotten on Terra or somewhere along the way to it, because it means that either someone had to give fake reasons to kill Hagen, that Temple assassins have gone rogue or that the whole Assassinorum has gone rogue. That happened once long ago, but I don't think that in such case some Sector Admiral would be their primary target. If it's more than one assassin then I would rule out rogue operators as well, because they go rogue rarely and two at once would be almost unique, at least I don't recall any such instance. This leaves one realistic possibility - someone lied to someone about why Hagen needs to be eliminated. Unless one of the High Lords is involved directly. Then... Well, then Hagen is fucked. I am really not sure what I would do.

From legal point of view - if he is a heretic, then Inquisition already has him, there's no need for assassins. From practical point of view - Nobis is a fortress, no one ever penetrated its defences. I could put him under investigation, but I wouldn't take away his powers, so he could still issue orders to the fleet... However his authority would obviously suffer and his more ambitious underlings might use his absence to try to claim his position. But that would at least ensure his safety for the time being. Chapter Master concentrates on the tides of Immaterium and opens his inner eye. He then whispers:
>Who activated the beacon and why did they?
He is immediately lost in the whirlwind of scattered sights, sounds and smells. Then the vision clears up.

+++

You see Hadius. He is now old and frail, but his hands are still quick. You know that Hadius once worked for the Administratum as senior adept, maintaining technology that is not complex enough to warrant summoning the techpriests, but more complicated than what servitors can deal with. He was good at what he did and the life in the higher levels of the hive was wonderful. But something bad, traumatic, happened and he had to flee. He lived deep under the hive, working for mercenaries and mutants and other scum of various stripes. Then he came. He offered gold and redemption, in return for a small service. Restore one of the comm towers and boost the signal enough to transmit a single simple message. A code. Hadius knows that he is standing behind him, watching him. He connect the last two wires, shuts the panel and inserts dataprobe.
>It is done, master! Signal will activate in two minutes.
His response is terse.
>Good. You will get your reward.
Before Hadius can turn around and have a better look at him, vision ends.

Infiltrating Tachion Primaris proved easier than expected – nobody dared to ask your Arbitrators what was their business when they arrived on one of routine pilgrim ships. Even the huge container that they were guarding only raised a couple of eyebrows, but Verhoff’s papers were in order and he was able to get it through the checkpoint without any problems. Four hours later your men find themselves in an abandoned warehouse close to one of the entrances to the Babelion underhive. With a loud clank, hired memory-wiped industrial servitor removes the lid from the mysterious container. Out of it, like ghosts, your Revenants appear. Geron smiles to himself and puts down his visor:
>Let’s haunt this hive.

Unfortunately the entrance to the underhive that you planned to use is barred and guarded by a few Chimeras and a platoon of slightly agitated Planetary Defence Force soldiers. They seem to be setting up some sort of barricade, they must have arrived here recently. Verhoff decides to:

a) Avoid them and instead bribes a local gang (-2W) to show him their secret smuggling tunnel into the underhive.
b) Talk his way through using his credentials as an Arbitrator on a mission
c) Plant a bomb in a local pub and create distraction that will draw the guards away from the entrance

Your decision to pay the gang was wise. You manage to easily circumvent road block and enter the bowels of Hive Babelion.

+++

Your men proceed deep into the underhive. Some scavengers and other scum follow you like vultures for a while, most likely hoping to collect scraps and loot dead bodies after someone bigger and tougher takes Punisher squad out. Verhoff stops every now and then to check his modified auspex. Destros had tweaked it before their mission – now this reconstructed auspex is working with a few still operating comm towers and triangulates the source of transmission, however it’s not that useful for combat. However the cyberdogs have keen senses and should be able to notice anything out of the ordinary.

About an hour inside the underhive your men are ambushed by a group of mutants. Or at least it was supposed to be an ambush, if not for the superior training and equipment that Punisher squad wields. While mutants are ferocious, their primitive weapons and berserker tactics are no match for Arbitrators – they gun down the first wave of enemies and the second one immediately scatters. Verhoff decides to:

a) Order Revenants to hunt down and kill all stragglers, no one must know about the mission
b) Let them run, this will create more fear and clear the path ahead from other scum

And:

a) Take a couple of prisoners for information, interrogate/torture them
b) Take a couple of prisoners for information, bribe/hire them
c) Taking prisoners will make us lose valuable time

[these are separate choices]
>>
>>1624675
>a) Order Revenants to hunt down and kill all stragglers, no one must know about the mission
And
a) Take a couple of prisoners for information, interrogate/torture them

Revenants do the interrogation/torture while Punisher Squad keeps searching. Revenants should be fucking terrifying to mutants and they should spill any info immediately.
Then kill the prisoners.

Geron is scary enough that mutants immediately spill the beans. It seems they are just common raiders, they wanted to get arbiter's weapons and armour to sell them on the black market, this would have allowed their wives and little ones to survive coming season of the toxic monsoons. However Geron also learns that they are slightly worried about encroaching military people - they have blocked off all the entrances about two weeks ago and have been sending parties, but it seems that they are preparing for something bigger, most likely they want to purge the underhive, or at least that's what the mutants think. Geron quickly gets rid of them.
Soon after the battle Kargos approaches Geron:
>Geron, we are picking up military comms chatter. At first we thought it’s PDF, but the code seems to be a bit too complicated, we suspect Imperial Guard, they must be somewhere close by. Cracking it will take some time and we will need to set up a stationary listening post for at least a few hours to get enough data so that we could crack the code. Do you want to do this?

a) Yes, everyone needs some rest, let’s fortify this position and crack the code
b) No, we must move quickly before we are detected or our target is endangered

Hagen wants to talk with you in private:
>In my opinion the best bet would be Gothic Class Cruiser Vorpal. It is close enough, has all the necessary paperwork and a good captain. She is commanded by captain Andreus Storr, he will help us, however his ship is big and I cannot guarantee absolute discretion. Someone will know that marines were teleported onboard. While captain can impose curfew for a few months, sooner or later some of the crew will set foot on land again and rumours will spread and might possibly reach Ursus. This could hurt Storr and will cast a suspicion on your Chapter as well, but that's the only option. Are you happy with this?

+++

Kargos nods, orders Kurt to set up shop and answers:
>We will try to work as fast as possible. So far comms are pretty steady, so I think we will be able to get in touch with you once we have more info.
>>
>>1624828
To confirm. Only punisher squadron and the contact they find are getting teleported out.
If this contact is a marine pull off the armour first, and have it look like the arbiters are just 'bringing in' some gang heavy.
Revenants stay cloaked and sneak past military cordon same way they got in.
>>
>>1624863
Geron asks can Revenants then bring some heavy weaponry(+2 melta guns) instead of the homing beacon, if they are getting out the conventional way?
>>
>>1624883
Keep the homer so they *can* teleport out if shit really hits the fan.
It may well reach a point where the suspicion from teleporting onto a ship is less harmful than the consequences of staying down there.

Finally Punisher Squad and the Revenants reach the place from where the signal originates. It was once a huge tower that must have reached the floor of the next hive level or maybe it was part of a spire in the earliest days of the Hive Babelion. But for one reason or the other, tower fell and was now lying sideways, a hundred-meter long structure, mostly scavenged and deconstructed. Punisher squad carefully approaches it, keeping tactical formation and expecting a trap. They enter the tower while Revenants cover them. Inside local underhivers seem to have set up a shanty town at some point, but it looks deserted now. In the middle of the hall, near a communications panel, you notice two figures – a mortal man by the name of Hadius and a Space Marine in blue and purple power armour, with a bolter in his hands.
>Good to see you, brothers, you can unveil yourselves.

As the rest of your party proceeds onwards, Kargos and Kurt take up positions atop a crumbled millennia-old manufactorum and start cracking the code. While manufactorum was abandoned long ago,it has wiring and a dish that is still good enough for it to tap into the communications network after some tweaking. It takes them good couple of hours to record enough chatter to put it down onto dataslate and start decoding it. This task would most likely take only minutes if they would be on the deck of Aspera Dominus or just have a good cogitator, but marines instead have to rely on their personal codebreaking skills and the limited help their dataslates give. Soon they confirm that it is indeed the Imperial Guard, however chatter is intermingled with PDF transmissions as well, who seem to have access to the code. Kurt laughs:

>It’s working, Kargos! I think we did it. I have an algorithm that finally works, it’s decoding messages as we speak.

Kargos, who’s on the lookout duty, takes his eye of the scope of his sniper rifle:

>Finally. Decode it, send it through to Geron and let’s get a move on. What’s on the waves?

>Hmm, nothing too important, mostly troop movements and reports. I think PDF are guarding the entrances and Imperial Guard are responsible for sweeping the underhive. Interesting, but it’s too far away to affect us. I guess Geron was right to decode this to be safe rather than sorry, but I think he ove… Wait. By the Emperor… Quick, establish a link to Geron, we must warn him now!

While you don’t recognise the colours of his armour, as your men approach him, Astarte leaves the shadow and takes off his helmet. Geron immediately recognises the marine.
>Cagirates! By the Emperor! What are you doing here?
Cagirates smiles sadly:
>I am in need of an extraction, how does it look like? Damn, I am glad to see you. Quick, we have to move out, I have killed their scouts, but they know that I am here and will be upon us soon. From the rumours I picked up, I think they are planning to sweep the whole underhive, looking for me. Hm… I am not sure whether we’ll make it. Why are there so few of you..? Also, what’s with the Arbitrators?
He turns at Verhoff:
>No offence, officers, I am simply not used to seeing Astartes working together with the law enforcement on the same battlefield.
He looks back at Geron:
>I hope you are not planning to throw me to the human authorities? They are all in Larion's pocket. I want to come back and explain everything to the Chapter and if my sins are considered too great, I would prefer a fair trial from my peers. So what shall we do now?
>>
>>1629767
How quickly can Cagirates ditch his armour?

Do so, ditch his weapon too. Blow both up with a melta charge.
Scan him with auspex for anything implanted that could be used to broadcast anything.
Then teleport him out along with Punisher Squad. Have him look like an arrested heavy ganger or something and they take him to a cell asap.

Revenants cloak and sneak out past encroaching troops. To help in this, broadcast a message that's just encrypted enough for the enemy troops to detect and break.
"Have encountered contact at [Insert position away from the actual place]."

Then get Cagirates, Revenants and Punisher Squad back to Aspera Dominus/Tombstone asap.

Your men are good, very good, but not good enough against odds like this. Geron and his men are stopped by a column of armour crossing their path diagonally, while Kargos and Kurt get bogged down avoiding scouting Sentinel patrols. Kargos and Kurt are about 2 km away from the rendezvous point if they go directly. Alternatively, they could dive into the maze of ancient maintenance tunnels, but that would make the road nearly three times as long and would pose a significant chance of getting lost. Kargos checks his powerpack for the Revenant suit.
>Not much left, that was a lot of evading. Maze would give us some privacy, but I am not sure - if we get delayed there, we will leave Geron out to dry. What do you think, Kurt?
+++
Meanwhile Geron and the rest of the Revenants are stuck hiding behind a few pillars, waiting for the armoured convoy to pass, but it seems to have no end and they notice that one of the Chimeras stopped and unloaded a good dozen of Guardsmen, who start sweeping your side of the road a hundred meters away, slowly approaching you. Geron realises that this massive column (mostly made up of transport Chimeras) will soon start unloading troops to sweep the area. Turiel, one of the best snipers in the Chapter and a good friend of Geron, leans in:
>Geron, what do we do? They have cut us off from the RV! I think I spotted a colonel observing from the hatch close to us, I could take him out, create confusion and we try to break through the column either by stealth or by firepower, if it comes to it. Unless you have a better plan?

Quickly go up ahead and set up a rudimentary frag grenade IED that a chimera will undoubtedly detonate. When it blows hopefully the guardsmen will run up the road past us to investigate, then we can slink through in the confusion.

While they are not completely invisible - air shimmers and blurs in their passing, the confusion seems to be enough to evade the soldiers.

However among them there's none individual they fail to deceive. Normally he wouldn't have noticed them, but explosion peaked his interest, distracting from the letter he was trying to write. He emerged from the commander's tank and while standing on top of it felt unfamiliar presence shifting through the ranks of the guardsmen. Close, very close to him. His eyes grow wide in amazement as he realises:
>Enemies among us!
He is too suprised to gather up the energy and use any of his considerable power for anything, so Revenants will have the initiative. What does Geron want to do? Psyker is about 20m away from you on a tank, covered to the waist. You are still shielded, but batteries are low from such intensive usage and you know that camouflage might start flickering at any moment. There's cover about 50m on the other side of the road, but you think that running will still allow guardsmen to shoot a volley at you while you are retreating. Teleportation will take a turn, but you THINK that your men are close enough to teleport all of them at once (you'll need to roll over 80% for that to be true, otherwise someone might get left behind, or you can use a turn to regroup into a tight formation)

Turiel throw a flashbang grenade at the psyker to disorient him. Everyone else throw a smoke grenade and lay down cover.

The psyker might be able to see us through the smoke but the people with the guns can't.

Y/N guys?

>Psyker is about 20m away from you on a tank, covered to the waist.
>There's cover about 50m on the other side of the road,
lob some frag grenades at them while continuing to run for cover. even if they don't hit and kill they should provide enough distraction while not giving away our position like gunfire would do

also: piqued not peaked

Grenades explode, stunning and disorienting dozens of guardsmen, but there are still too many of them. and smoke doesn't cover all angles, so some of them open fire at you, but no one hits. Psyker tries to cast lightning in your direction, but by the time he gathers up enough energy, your men are outside of his reach, though you notice that he is shaking wildly, as if someone would be doing something to him... [rolling for Perils of the Warp]
>>1636488
It's up to you, your men are currently behind cover - you can continue running into the tunnels or stop and try to talk...

I say keep running! Meet up with Kargos and Kurt ASAP and get out of the underhives through the same hidden Gang tunnel they came in through.

Agree or disagree guys?
>>
>>1636550
Never mind. Meet up with Kargos and Kurt and teleport out whilst out of sight, whilst the psyker is stunned preferably.

As soon as they're on the Vorpal, go to the same random shipping container as Punisher Squad and Cagirates to await discrete pickup.

Agreed/disagreed?

>>1636556
Sounds alright
Mostly because the other options seem worse

keep running. now that we're past I don't see how they could catch up so we just have to not blunder in to a trap

02:14 skg if you will not teleport out
02:14 skg we'll have to roll some more
02:15 skg because now underhive is full of guards
02:15 skg and it's miles to the tunnel
02:15 skg like dozens of miles

Geron and the Revenants manage to rejoin Kargos and Kurt soon enough. While they have a few more close encounters with the patrols, ultimately they manage to avoid all of them and then teleport away to the Vorpal. Mission is a complete success, Cagirates is saved, you have gained new follower (Hadius), if you wish he seems to have some talents and a bright mind that either Xyptus or one of your other men could shape into something useful.

Revenants get 5 character xp points between them, Geron cannot use more than 1 of these, others are not limited.

Hadius gets 3xp and you can generate 2 of his stats up to 20+2d10; his Intelligence is 40+d10.

Alternatively you can allow Hadius go and live on Varda, you will get +1 xp for Chapter Master.

You will receive more xp when the new year comes (beginning of the next session)
