[So I hate to dump gigantic walls of text unprompted, but I thought this would help a bit to give some perspective before we jump into how Herb is doing. I meant for it to be a short thing and it got a bit out of control. It's just a short thing from Hana's point of view.

My personal view on Herb.

I think Herb was one of those kids that was just kind of 'there' in his previous home. He maybe had a couple friends but nobody really close, and nobody really noticed him much. He didn't have much going for him and wasn't particularly interesting.

Fast forward to today. He's moved to a beautiful tropic region, suddenly he's popular, girls are offering things he never really thought he'd experience, people think he's awesome after several incredibly lucky breaks. Herb REALLY doesn't want this to end, he doesn't want to go back to being 'that guy'. This, coupled with his natural desire to help others and be useful, is causing him to push himself harder and harder to be what people think he is.

I think he legitimately likes Hana, but really likes Laki, too. Being confessed to by Hana, he kinda jumped at it, never really thinking there was Much chance of Laki being actually interested in him. When he found out she was, everything that had piled up on him so far came crashing down and he had a bit of a panic.

That's my theory.

You stand there for a minute, confused, hurt, and completely unsure of what to do next. You’re about to chase after him when shouts out to you. “Don’t. You catch up to him, then it’s his mouth that’ll do the running instead.”

You look down. “I guess you’re right.” What’s she going to say? You center yourself. Come on, you’ve dealt with a lot worse. People on their deathbeds. Their families. That time you farted in front of that whole school of doctors in training who came by. You wonder if it’s normal to make jokes in your own head like that. “He uh, said a lot of stuff.”

“Yeah.” She plays with a pokeball. Bella's pokemon. “He forgot something, too.”

“That doesn’t seem like his normal self.”

“Like you’d know.” Laki almost spits.

“What’s that supposed to mean?”

She steps up to you. Her muscle’d body is intimidating, but not the way she’s intending. What guy wouldn’t be interested in that? “You knew he’d cave if you pressured him.”

There’s so much wrong with that accusation. You don’t know what you want to correct first. You hate it when you’re accused of something you didn’t do! “Well if I knew that, then doesn’t that mean I do know him?” You poke her in the shoulder, hard. You don’t know why, you’re just caught up in the emotion of it all. You immediately regret it.

“That-! You can’t-! Don’t use my own words against me!” She grabs your real arm, spins around you, and pins you against a tree.

“Don't use your- What?” With your other arm and legs, you’re able to grab back and kick yourself free. “Well why did you push us together before?”

“I don’t know!” She takes a swing at you. You block it with your metal arm, causing her to wince and hold her wrist. “Damnit!”

That really did sound like it hurt. “Well calm down!” You grab both her wrists. “Nobody can beat these limbs when they’re charged.”

“First of all, you started it. Second, don’t ever tell a pissed off person to calm down. And...” She starts overpowering your arm. You begin to sweat. “Third of all...”

But her burst of energy doesn’t last, and you get the upper hand again. “See? You-”

“Actions say more than words!” Wham! She headbutts you. You both go down.

She sighs too. “I didn’t help. I kind of freaked out at him. Said a lot of stuff." She looks over to you. "I would have been fine with a little time. Things got out of control.”

“Sorry.” You don’t know what else to say.

“I’m sorry too.”

You both lay there for a bit.

“You don’t like me, do you? I mean, before all this.” You hate being so exposed like this. You should have stayed in somewhere, watched a movie, and twiddled your diddle until you fell asleep.

“I...” She hesitates. “I like being straight forward, Hana. And I’ve been a hypocrite. The truth is I’m, and if you repeat this I’ll lay you out, is that I’m,” she looks away and lowers her voice, “threatened by you.”

“Me? But you’re older, braver, and super, ridiculously hot.

“Oh yay. I’m older. I’m louder and dumber.” She stretches on the the ground. “And way to oversell that hot thing. You sound like you want to do me or something.”

You nervously laugh. “Ha! Yeah. How weird would that be?”

She rolls her eyes. “Anyway. You’re just a better version of me. You’re stronger-”

“I’m a cyborg!”

“You interrupt better-”

“Sorry.” You didn’t expect her to be that quick-witted.

“You keep doing it.” She pauses. When she’s satisfied you won’t talk, she continues. “It doesn’t matter how, it’s still true. And you’ve got a sense of humor, you’re cuter, you’re more sexually aggressive-”

“That’s a good thing?” You cough. “And no I’m not!”

“Yeah huh." She rolls her eyes. "Come on. You’re brave. Everyone else, myself included, we lose our shit over the smallest things. You’ve seen it all and you come out all peppy and perky. Do you have any idea how freaking adorable you are?”

“I’ve got no idea about that." She puts her hands behind her head. "I feel bad. I think he’s got a complex about hurting people, and I know what it’s like to crack under the pressure.”

“Yeah.” you’re pretty upset with him, but you do feel bad, too.

“But whatever happens, let’s agree to be cool okay? And also make him sweat. Punish him a bit at the very least.”

You laugh. “That’s so mean!” But also pretty tempting after how he made you feel. You look over to Laki. You’re still scared of whatever comes next, and worried about what Herb’s dad thinks of you, and just general anxiety you get when talking to anyone ever, but still. It’s nice to know you’re in this together.

“Well it’s that or shouting, and I’m all shouted out.” She stretches. “Strange as it sounds, it feels good to get that all this out. What’s the word? Cathartic?”

“Umm I think so.” You really should know this.

“For a shy girl you’re not very smart.” She teases.

She’s teasing you! This is your chance again. Playful banter, just like on a sitcom. “Well you’re an old lady. What’s your excuse?”

“Watch it.” She warns.

Ah! Too far! “Yes ma’am. Sorry ma’am.”

You begin to grow nervous.

My aspirations for Herb have long been for him to forego serious relationships and focus on his spiritual powers and exploring.

So, ironically, after the waifu stuff came to a head and left us in this situation I've been left feeling snug as a bug with what's happening. Hopefully we end up as a mountain hermit or something.

Just gotta work on ourselves.

You run and run and run some more. What did you do? What did you say? Tears stream in your eyes and you try your best not to slip on the wet grass or trip over fallen branches from last night’s storm.

But you’re Herb, so you slip. You almost have yourself balanced out until your foot hits a stick and your come tumbling down a the heavily treed hill, hitting almost everything on the way down. You get the occasional glimpse of the sky, the ground, wood and mud. And when you hit the bottom, you find you’re still being alive.

Guess you wouldn’t be so lucky.

You lie in the mud for a bit. It’s where you belong. You feel terrible. You just panicked. You never wanted to hurt anybody.

You think back on recent events to try to figure out what went so wrong.

A noise takes you out of your thoughts. You force yourself out of the mud with a thick, sucking sound, and take a look.

You see a bunch of Meowth and even some Persians. They look like they’re gathering over something. You can’t exactly see what’s going on from here.

You get up, brush yourself off a little and come out. “Hi.”

They all turn to stare at you. The few near you nearly leap out of their skin. You can finally see what they were gathered around. Shiny metal trinkets and coins. Just like what Murkrow trades for. They must compete for these things.

Their wants are so small and strange. If you turned your money into coins and shiny metal things, you could quadruple their pile or more.

It’s hard not to feel at least a little like a powerful being with that thought.

A deep and terrible though comes over you. What if you’ve been approaching everything wrong? You’re a good guy, right? A nice guy. You always want what’s best for everyone, and you give good advice. Things were going so well when you were the one giving advice to everyone instead of taking it, like your dad’s advice about choosing a girl before you loose them all. What if you were to lead a society. Lead an army! Rule the lands so that you can’t hurt anybody ever again!

There’s a huge Persian that emerges from the group. It stares at you as you leave. Somehow you get the feeling that it’s a bit sharper than the others. Like you can see things turn in it’s head from the look in your eyes.

The others start surrounding you, and for a second your heart races. But the big leader makes a noise and they back down. It gives another order to the others, and they start gathering things up. You guess they don’t like the idea that you know about this.

Well there’s an upside to this. It took your minds off of things for a few minutes.

You wish you had a time machine. You heard there are pokemon that can travel through time. But you don’t have the ego to think you could cook it a meal or sew it a hat nice enough to get that sort of favor.

You sigh as you wander the forest. Your throat hurts from not crying enough. Your back hurts from that tumble. Your heart hurts.

You can't think straight. You need to get yourself sorted.
