/qst/ - Quests

The war was a tragedy. The war should have never happened. The war was inevitable. It's been four years since the Citadel Corporations fought the Monarchists, and everyone lost. There is no central authority, only a thousand factions vying for power. Choose your side, manage your resources, and claim your place in the vacuum of power and space.

Been playing some civ quests, now I'd like to run one in space. 4 players, four empires listed below. Pick one and throw on a trip, this one's gonna last about 5 days.

Factions

House Willhiem
>They fought to defend their lineage's hegemony over the quadrant, and for their efforts the entire royal family was killed. The remaining Wil' forces descended into civil war, with Generals and Admirals fighting each other for the scraps of the Willhiem Empire. But something happened. The gene seed of the princess, thought to be lost forever, has been found by one of the Generals. With a legitimate claim to the throne, can this general reunify the Willhiem Empire?

Play this faction if
>You like Zeon, Fascist ascetics, Kraut Space Magic (they're fucking germans in space okay?)
>You're a monarchists

The Tang Shogunate
>This great Empire fought alongside Baron Willhiem to annihilate the Citadel Corporations, but sued for peace after the Emperor and his family was killed by Tang Equalist forces. The emperor's daughter, Princess Lili, is the only survivor of the royal line, and must now defend her throne from threats both outside and within.

Play this factions if
>You want to play Chinese court politics in space, but with samurai too cause why not
>You're a weaboo

>cont'd
>>
>>1598509

Citadel Corporations
>For three hundred years the Monarchists controlled the quadrant. That was until the Western Economic Bloc succeeded and declared independence. Soon hundreds of corporate entities were following suit, the most powerful of them being the Citadel Corporations. With their power and resources, the Citadel Corps waged a ten year war. They won their independence, but the quadrant was ravaged. Now the Citadel Corporations must fight each other for dominance, and a place in the new galactic order.

Play this factions if
>You love massive corporations sticking it to governments.
>You're an unrepentant Libertarian with a boner for private security forces.

The Crimson Union/Equalist Party
>The Great war boiled down to a fight over who got the massive resources of the Baley Quadrant, but it was framed by the Citadel corporations as a rebellion against oppressive regimes. From this propaganda rose an actual faction of people and aliens striving for equality, and they fought tooth and claw to free themselves from the monarchists. But, as with all great movements, it was eventually co-opted by radicals and monsters, and from the ashes of the war rose the Crimson Union and the Equalist Party. Now this great confederacy of marginalized alien races strives to make a name for themselves in the quadrant, no matter who must die to achieve it.

Play this faction if
>You want to play the Soviet Union, but in space.
>You like the idea of the downtrodden getting access to powerful capital ships and shoving them up the ass of kings and CEO's
>>
>>1598512

Bonus DLC faction

The Black Fleet
>The war brought in billions of mercenaries from all corners of the galaxy. War profiteering was rampant, and a vibrant wartime economy thrived. After the dust settled, some of the mercenaries stayed, finding various roles in the new order. The greatest among the was the black fleet led by Captain Alucard. The mercenary lord turned to piracy, and now his ships are feared from one end of the Baley quadrant to the other

Play this faction if
>It's vampires and space pirates, you get the picture
>You don't want to participate that much, but do want to dick around a bit in the setting
>>
>>1598563
BLACK FLEET FUCK YEAH.

THE CURSED LEGION
>>
>>1598571
Cursed my man, always good to have you at the table. Black Fleet it is.
>>
>>1598575
Im a sucker for Civ factions that are geared toward needless and violent war.
>>
I would love participating as the president of the Crimson Union, but I am afraid the the timezones conspire against me. It is almost two in the morning here and I wouldn´t be able to keep peace.
>>
>>1598626
it's possible I could work you in, so would you say you spend the most time online eight hours ago? 12 hours ago? What's your primary active period?
>>
Four to two hour ago
and
Fourteen to eight hour ago
>>
>>1598637
I can work with that, I don't sleep much and my posting is numerous but sporadic, so if you want the Crimson Union they're yours. I've noticed most civ quests turns can range anywhere between 20 mins to a day, and this is a pretty chill one
>>
>>1598646
Well thank you for your help. Anyways, the turns should start when he whoole five nations are selected right?
>>
>>1598653
yeah, so you have some time. Worst comes to worst you can just play your first turn in the morning and you'll probably be the one ending and starting the turns every day
>>
Citadel please
>>
>>1598770
We got our third player, just waiting on two more then you all will roll for units and I'll give you the details. Honestly if you've played one civ quest you have a handle on how this plays
>>
>>1598770
Nvm can I have the tang shogunate?
>>
>>1598795
Yup, so then Citadel Corporations and House Willhiem are still open

Infantry

>Elite

Armor
>Assault
>Recon
>Support

Fighters
>Assault
>Bomber
>Support

Ships
>Frigate
>Cruiser

Each unit type has 3 levels, everyone starts at level 1 and researches beyond that. You start with one science type character that can research things, and two heroes. I'll list those as farther

>>
>>1599478
>>1599481

If op is fine with it, Citadel would make sense because it's kind of a coalition of companies and in the lore it's stated that the companies are fighting each other. honestly an entire Vic game could be based off these guys with the dynamic of multiple companies all vying for power. Lots of political intrigue and opportunities for them.
>>
>>1599493
>>1599494

Actually that would be perfect, Cephanon mind being one of the Citadel Corporations?
>>
>>1599500
Maybe? I was looking forward to the faction you were gonna write up but i can settle for Corp.
>>
>>1599507
for sure, that actually gives me a good prompt, give me a bit and I'll draw it up

2nd bonus DLC faction

The Spore
>In the waning years of the Great War both the Monarchists and the Citadel forces reported increasing interactions with a third faction. It wasn't until the end of the war that the Baley Quadrant understood what was encroaching; The Spore. Composed of a central fungoid intelligence, the Spore is a conglomeration of enslaved races and a threat to the recovering factions of the Baley Quadrant

Oh no. Looks like we have the Flood as a faction. I was thinking it would be a schism with the corporate or another pirate faction but this is really interesting.

I wonder what drawbacks each faction has. Also is there a discord for combat turns? I'd rather not have people meta gaming and teleporting to meet a certain position in battle... I have more questions but I kinda don't want to bog down until all rules are posted.
>>
>>1599684
Yeah im just waiting for OP to post some rules/stats/maps or whatever so we all know what to do
>>
I'm going to sleep, when i wake up i'll make my units.
>>1599688
I did forget the rules, hope OP posts them again.
>>
>>1599709
Op hasn't posted the rules yet fungus man. Hopefully my questions would be answered once they do.
>>
>>1599733
I know that I picked the faction designed for raiding and constant war
>>
>>1599684
I've never used discord but we could for ooc shit if you want. Most travel will take 1-2 turns, and combat is broken up so there's no instant movement. Each faction has its pros and cons. I'll detail those in a sec

Everything depends on defense rolls. There are no attack rolls, as your units can and will successfully attack with pin point accuracy. All of your research and upgrades will go towards upping your defense roll or lowering your enemy's defense roll. Here's what your factions good at

House Willhiem
Pros
>Strong, powerful units, as well as specialized unique units
Cons
>Units are expensive, you're going to be outnumbered

Tang Shogunate
Pros
>Specialized elite units
>Numerous shitty units
Cons
>no int between units

Citadel Corporation
Pros
>Balanced military, plenty of specialized units
Cons
>Expensive

Crimson Union
Pros
>Tons of unit choices, you will always outnumber the enemy
Cons
>They're not as elite as other factions

Black Fleet
Pros
>Fast, elite units
Cons
>Do not get caught up in a prolonged battle

The Spore
Pros
>Numbers, plenty of unique units
Cons
>Do not let your Sporelords die or the army collapses
>>
>>1599748
And my faction is designed for trade and all the other factions are, in lore, against mine. Trade deals are probably going to be behind some neatly kept doors.
>>
gonna get a couple hours sleep then I'll post faction units
>>
>>1599893
Alright. Cheers op

Is my sporelords listed here or are they special non-units?
>>
>>1601189
Can we have a sector map or something to get us orientated?
>>
>>1601195
units spontaneously get possessed by sporelords, so each battle a spore lord will possess whichever unit is the toughest
>>1601198
I definitely tried to find a good map, but you would not believe how hard it is to find a decent galaxy map. If you have a kind of "blank" one I'll use it
>>
>>1601208
So it's fine if spore lord possesed units die but not the sporelord itself?
>>
>>1601181
What is the Jisham?
>>
>>1601224
Everything. Duh.
>>
>>1601219
no, whichever unit the sporelord chooses to possess you need to protect at all costs. If the possessed unit dies the sporelord's control is broken and the units go berserk. But the sporelords themselves can never truly die.
>>
>>1601224
Odds are it is a high tier mutated spore unit with direct links to the fungoid intelligence and a incredible capacity for violence.

>>1601227

It's not perfect, but you can see kind of how everyone is partitioned out. Now, it may look like you're all bumped up next to each other, but keep in mind that there are mindboggling amounts of empty void between everything. Just, lightyears of empty space. And in the beginning, you truely only control one system, and the rest in your territory are currently paying lip service to you.

Good. Good. What kind of numbers are we talking for star systems? Are you doing a small sub-sector map which shows the system territory or will you give us a list of resources and materials in systems and the number of stars we have without a visual representation?

Sorry about the questions op. I'm probably over complicating something you had in mind to be simple. But if we are to be fighting I'd want to be fighting for systems and resources or something.

So every turn you'll have situations you have to address. You can address them one of several ways. Send a Investigation Team, An Ambassador/Envoy team, A military Unit, or a Hero. Each faction specializes in certain approaches, and some factions, such as the Spore, lack Ambassadors or other types.

You'll figure out which teams best address which situations. For instance, if the Citadel Corp wanted to negotiate peacefully, they should absolutely not send Laughin' Johnny. If you find an anomaly or mystery, an investigation team would be the best answer, etc.

You can also research one thing, be it upgrading a unit or otherwise. Eventually you'll get more research units and can research multiple things

So we have to address the situations every turn? Can we do construction or research? Or trade or fighting? How does that work?

If each turn is entirely reactionary then I will:

>Tanka Heavy Industries Corporate takeover.
Send Hero, Ambassador Sera

>Research Station
Send Team

If we can do construction/research I'd like to do a mining operations.
>>
>>1602364
Are you saying we can address only a single situation?

This is my first civ quest, so pleas bear with me:

¿Can we have any other info into the biography of our heroes? I´m particularly interested in that Red Lotus gal/guy ¿Is she/ he the Head of Sate of the Union?

Also, knowing or acting in another´s faction issues would be metagaming, right? I´m talking about the Equalist forces in the Tang Shogunate
>>

>>1602364
>Send 3 Frigates and 2 Cruisers.
>>
Also, instead of a research project can we invest our effort into an infrastructure building program for example?
>>
>>1602365
You can research just about anything and I'll work it into the mechanics. Researching mining for instance would result in more Ingots per turn. A certian units defense would result in better defense rolls.

There will be more complex situations as you guys get the nag of it.

Answer all situations

>>1602369
I can do in depth bios when I get a good solid moment. But you can know about other factions based on intelligence and common knowledge. Just ask if your curious about a certain team and ill let you know what your intelligence committes know

Choice Master Post Turn 1

House Wilhelm

>Strange Anomaly on Tridada 3

>The ship touches down, sending waves of smoke through the mega-forest. The door hisses open, and power-armored warriors pour out. They circle around the ship, pointing their guns in all directions. Doktor Cronenburg appears at the door, inhaling the air.
"It's a good day for discovery!" He says, then marches off into the forest. The Housecarls follow him, keeping their guns leveled at the surrounded trees.
"Incoming!" One of the Housecarls calls. Dark shapes move beyond the trees, and the sound of pulse-weaponry can be heard powering up.

>There are two units of <unknown> in the tree-line. Roll 2d10 for successful defense. Successful defense for each die is 4 and above. And +1 to dice roll to represent cover of trees. >Use Hero as Ambassador: the Balloon Brothers

Sorry for the paragraph. If you find an error, please warn me. I just want to try roleplaying this decisions

"Comrades, it has come to my attention that the Praetorian people, want to part ways, claiming for Independence. I have heard voices of the streets calling them all sorts of names, of which traitor is the most respectful. I would be lying if I said that I did not feel that sort of emotions too. But forcing them to remain by applying the iron fist would only cause the corruption of our war against the privileged. We both shed tears, sweat and blood fighting back against back against the slavery of the workers and, if I am not mistaken, they know and appreciate that fact too. For that reason only, I have send the Balloon Brothers, Heroes of the Revolution, as part of an Ambassador mission to remember them why our bonds for the greater good of our people are stronger than any petty fight between us. May our future be bright and our power, mighty."

My basic goal right here is to use this distinguished heroes of the revolution as a sort of figureheads ambassadors, using their Charisma from the Revolution and their military prowess in order to inspire and remain the citizens of the Preorta Faction why should we fight together. Actual negotiation about their relations IN the Union shall be resumed after this propaganda stunt. I will send actual ambassador a turn later.

That's a nice map there OP.

Are the breaks in between the yellow lines extra systems? The systems with a star is the one you start with directly controlling kind of like crusader kings right? The other ones are within our faction like dukes or something yeah?

>>1604712
Im going to DM you some questions on my freemove. But can it be used for research or probably construction or surveys or something?
>>
>>1604726
Yes if it looks like there's a line break then that means you'll have to take an extra turn to continue on, and yes, the crusader king anology is spot on

Free Move Phase is generally just for you to move you units around if you want. Your units will already move during Situations, but if you want to go somewhere specific you can use Free Move Phase. Research and Construction happens just whenever you tell me and I log it.
>>
>>1604734
Can you construct anything in systems you don't directly control or can we tell our vassals to construct a certain building in their lands? Also may I assume all of our units are currently inside our capital? If our vassals can build separately from our capital can it be assumed we can build multiple items at the same time throughout the factions systems? Giving those who have multiple systems the ability to build multiple buildings based on the number of vassals or will it be one construction per faction?
>>
>>1604734
How much are units?
>>
>>1604742
This also leads to other questions including does vassals control multiple systems or just one system per vassal? If so how many vassals does a faction have and who are they if we can improve relations with vassals can we request them for units to build and get discounts on units through that? Also if relations with vassals are called into question does that also mean, for instance, a vassal can split off and create another faction as what would happen with the crimson union?

I'm a setting builder at heart and tend to ask too many questions. If you'd like I could ask them in discord instead of the thread. Or, alternatively, you can ask me to just stop asking questions.
>>
>>1604742
Building is vastly limited by funds. You can build anything in any of the "white" circles, but at the moment those are vassals and it's a really good idea to "enfold" the white systems completely before you start building there. Enfolding Vassal Systems can be done naturally through Situations (you eventually get to all your white systems that way) or if you're impatient you can just flex your military muscle. Sometimes they'll submit, sometimes they'll try and fight back.

Now, if an outside force attacks one of your vassal systems before you enfold it, they will generally defend themselves vigorously

>>1604744
Infantry range around 20
Armor is around 60

>>
>>1604750
Nope these are good questions, each white circle is just one system, and vassal is a loose term. There can be three different goverments in one system but they all work under the banner of vassal.

Generally Vassal systems won't do jack shit for you until you enfold them. Yeah. They're assholes.
>>
>>1604752
Since you stated my faction units tend to be expensive, can I get a list of infantry unit prices? Also how much does, Let's say, a mining rig cost?
>>
Rolled 8, 6 = 14 (2d10)

A mining rig would cost 80 Ingots and take one turn to construct. That may seem expensive, but it'll up your Ingots generated per turn. I've got unit prices written down on pen and paper, so if you've got a specific one I'll tell you but it'll take me awhile to type up all of them.

They'll generally get really anxious and suspicious, unless there's an enemy nearby and then they'll be super grateful. This also depends on the system though, as some Vassal Systems are caught up in their own troubles and you could drive a fleet right through the system and they wouldn't care

The only limit to building is funds, but you don't produce many Ingots at this point in the game. You have 100, and you're generating 20 a turn. Mining Rigs, depending on a roll, can generate anywhere from 10-50 Ingots a turn. Pick a planet and roll when selecting where in your system to build. The roll determines what resource you find. You can pick it, or wait for the next turn and roll again to find a different resource.

Trade can also up your Ingot Generation, but that generally only comes into play during Situations

Citizens, it has come to my attention and that of the Ministers that the Union has, in the wave of sublime exaltation after the Old Regime´s fall that one of the many evils committed has slipped under the radar. Fresh reports from the Ministry of Welfare have stated that 50% of all the proud citizens of the Union, have not passed even basic education, and 30% of that group can neither read nor write. It is widely known that knowledge is power and the way of a dignified state is to give the power back to the masses that produce it. As this radio announcement is made, thousands of new schools are being built and new and innovative pedagogic programs are being redacted, providing the means for a better tomorrow to the adults that could not have hoped for it and the children who will born prepared to conquer it.

They are advancing menacingly against an spaceport and a city full with innocent and law-abiding citizens. Such actions cannot go unanswered and so I have send a message to the Balloon Brothers to try to hold them off before they do mayor damage, while some regiments of the People´s Army are being currently dispatched to defend our interests and those of our allies."

Of course, an ultimatum detailing the response of the Union will be sent to the enemy tribemen to see how if curbstomping them becomes a necessity.

Each company will be allowed three delegate seats at this summit. Each delegate trio will arrive via transport which can be escorted by fighters or a frigate. No weapons are allowed on site and if found those who carry them will be removed, force will be used if necessary. This means the fighters or frigate must remain a distance of 10km from the capital.

We will be addressing the trasgression of Tanaka on my resources as well as my response to their hostility. The summit's night will begin with a formal meeting then the summit proper and then after a small party. All attending will be expected to wear formal attire.

I'll begin to talk to the delegates of the Hammer and Moloch companies. I'll turn their attention to an important and fairly recent prospect which I'm sure they will enjoy. Give them five ingots each and tell them about a deal which has been struck, no details of currency exchange.

Next I will talk to GSP about a recent find. The Vespon Gas. I'm sure they will be interested with the findings. Give them a sample of the gas and tell them we can supply the gas if they need it for produce. Half of all the gas mined will go to them for a solid 2 ingots (per turn).

Then the Summit proper will commence.

Strike two Tanaka. So you've decided to enter my facility unannounced and to add insult ignored my warning when confronted.

" If only you were to come at my resources civilly then you would have an argument yet you decided to force my hand and attack without any hostility from my own. My actions were to deny you and to remove you from MY facility. I believe I have done that in full.

" My fellow Chairmen, hear me that I do not attack unhinged and without civil manner. I did not use lethal force until provoked into doing so. And I did not refuse negotiations. The only thing you state I did wrong was use a net sphere weapon. Which is honestly a fear that can be understood. If someone were to posses such a device then they would be able to control the traffic of information and other items. These fears are based on a false claim Chairman. I do not, nor have I ever, use such a device. The deaths were accidental entirely due to incompetence of the Tanaka Manufacturing of their secure lines."

The rest, according to the intel reports streaming in, are scattering or hunkering down in the captured cities. What do you wish to do?

Corporate Takeover
>The Tanka Lawyers object on seven class-B points, and the JiLoWu Corp supports the motion. The Lynden Family however, as well as the Moloch reps and Sol Mova, signal they are done with this issue. The vote for a Sub-Trial, an automated process that takes years to resolve. The problem is solved for now, and Tanka is left dissatisfied.

>On to the gala. The representatives gather in a ballroom that must have cost a small moon to build. The greatest entertainers and performers gallivant around while music pipes through crystal horns. You talk to the reps from Hammer and Moloch by the gold/chocolate fountain, Hunk Hill and Tiny Stark.

Black Fleet Battle

>The fighting is fierce, the air heavy with heated plasma . The smoking wreckage of Malfayan armor divisions litters the fields outside the city. You've lost one raider group, a surprising lack of causalities considering the only thing the Malfayans have left is a Hatch Tank and a Leopold Heavy Mech. The mercenaries defect, leaving the lone Hatch Tank division, who promptly surrenders.

>What happens next is....not pretty. The sacking....the looting, the....well, the Black Fleet has its fun and takes its due on Malfay.
>The raiding results in 90 ingots of plunder

Blood Ball Final Round
>The Blood Ball finals are held in the smoking ruins of the Malfay capital city. The crews, drunk off plunder and savagery, gather in the thousands to watch The Ferocious Fuckers face off against It's Ogre. Even some of the more brave Malfayans, or the shell shocked, show up to witness the exhilarating sport of Blood Ball.
Roll 2d10 to see who wins this years Blood Ball Title.

>Open fire with the Orbital Bombardment, as warning shots for what is to come if they don´t behave and leave the ground units guarding the buildings

I have to remember bringing here the Ambassador Team next turn

>Send a Crusier with:
3 Iron Militia
1 Chekover Tank
1 Budda
2 Crab walker
2 Perune for recon purposes

I will send all the funds they need for capturing at least a Power Manta Ray.

I guess the research team would use the Budda, my most agile vehicle. If capturing one becomes impossible, taging or marking them in any way possible is a must. About those cultist, if they don´t bother me, I won´t bother them

Continue the bombardment, rally the free cities and get them to lead a counter attack on the equalist forces with our aerial support. Send the immortals and the militiamen to the largest gathering so we can cut off the head of the snake.

The Gala
>Negotiations clunk along with Hammer and Moloch. The natural distrust between the citadel groups makes proper discussion difficult. That is, until Ambassador Sera arrives. She glides across the floor, coming to a stop in front of Hunk Hill and Tiny Stark. In minutes she has both men laughing, and afterwards the three walk over to a private cigar lounge to hack out a deal in the Net Sphere.
>Afterwards you approach the GSP rep, a boisterous fellow with confidence to boot.
