/qst/ - Quests

The time has come for the mooks to rule. In this quest you’ll be controlling a weak monster, a mook. You goal is to survive in a fantasy world where heroes seek to farm you for experience, and monster rule through power.

First off, choose your monster.

>Goblin, clever little creatures that are rather numerous in the world.

>Imps, lesser creatures from hell that have managed to find a way into the mortal realm.

>Fairies, beings born of a fusion of magic and the physical world.

>Slime, a creature from beyond this world

>Kobold, small creatures with a passing connection to dragons

>Wisp, the most basic form of undead

>Dron, insect like creatures that find themselves at the bottom of a cruel food chain

>Other (insert your own)

Welp, Wisp it is in that case.

You are a wisp, the weakest of undead. you are a being that usually arises when a soul is lost and forgets who or what it was. Owing your existance to she who sleeps, you are the bane of most weak heroes who cannot command the energies of magic.

>You are resistant to physical damage
>You can fire a weak spirit bolt

Stats:
>10 hp
>str: 0
>dex: 1
>wis: 2
>Int: 1
>Con: 0

Now, you are not like other monsters. You are unique.

We are bound to an item - a necklace - the only remaining tie we have to the lost memory of our identity. (Perhaps our uniqueness comes from the fact that, unlike other wisps, we have not lost this one last tie?)

>>
>>1592850
Being bound to an item might make it a little hard to achieve anything if we're not actually in the ownership of someone - a little girl who holds us close as her guardian angel from the things that go bump in the night; a conman who attributes our subtle manipulation of the dice to us being his lucky charm; even a rich baroness who keeps us locked in a case but shows us off at every opportunity - to put us in proximity of things to influence.

Though I suppose being able to possess other items would mitigate this a little. As long as OP can make it work, I suppose.
>>
We could be bound to an item against our will though, would mane it interesting to try to free ourselves from it
>>
>>1592850
Not sure of idea, of being bound to an item...but as anons earlier said it could make things interesting
>>
You lie within an amulet, a necklace that hold within it a brillient orange gem. you have always been with this necklace, and it is the core of even your earliest memories since you awoke within this accursed crypt.

Many other wisps call this place home, along with mor epowerful undead such as zombies or skeletons. However, one undead creature stands above all others, the master of this crypt.

A vampire who worships "She who Sleeps", a powerful necromancer who swore off both the living and their vampiric brethren for the safety of of those only they could control.

Your necklace actually lies within their sanctuary, a prize they dug from the rubble of whatever this crypt once had been a part of.

Your necklace lies within a room filled with arcane tomes, magical circles, and various furniture such as shelves and book cases. For a crumbling tomb, it's not to bad. The master of the crypt left a couple days ago, likely on some mission beyond your current understanding.

Hunger gnaws at you. Despite being incorporeal, you requires sustenance. Th life force of the living, that is what you needed to live. Without it, you would be taken by the void, and truley face the end of your existence.

Noise can be heard a couple floors down, but it's to muffled to make out, and the sounds of all manor of creature can be heard outside the walls.

>What do you do?
>>
>>1592880
As we are now, we are helpless. To hunt, we must find some way to leave this crypt, under our own power or otherwise. Unfortunately, the undead in this crypt are useless to us; we cannot control or compel them.

But the books that lie around us are fonts of power. Possess them; become them; feel every inked stroke, and trace the script that runs across their pages. Fill the void in our memory with those long-hidden secrets.

inb4 it's just the vampire's porn stash
>>
>>1592880
test your restraints, see just how limited are our abilities within the amulet
>>
>>1592887
>>1592888
I think we can put these two together
>>
>>1592888
This. Can we leave the amulet to wander around or do we have to work from inside the amulet?
>>
>>1592890
You can willingly leave the amulet. However, since this amulet is bound to you, you actually heal faster and are well protected within it. It is the closest to a home you have.

As for your control, apply short bursts of force in any direction of your choice. In theory, you could explore the entire crypt by having the amulet bounce and jerk around.

With your power, you could posses one of the many tomes and books, and through it, read the book.

A few books catch your non existant eye.

>The channel of souls: A study of the mortal coil

>The veil of uncertainty: Cutting through the fog of time

>"The Sleeping Queen" The first Lord, and only to fall
>>
>>1592895
>The channel of souls: A study of the mortal coil
Let's learn more about our preys.
>>
>>1592895
The channel of souls: A study of the mortal coil
learning about our prey and possibly more about ourselves, may be useful when we start trying to get stronger.
>>
>>1592895
>The channel of souls: A study of the mortal coil
Sure. Either allowing us to move further from the amulet or improving our possession ability would be quite useful.
>>
You spend three hours reading through the old tome. It explains how souls are nothing more than collections of magical energy attached to physical materials and bound to them by the will of the creature.

Through it, you learn (pick one)

>How to more effectivly damage the spirit, improving your Spirit bolt

>Use the energy of your very soul to create a spark of soul energy. Good for providing light or igniting a candle.

>To sense souls within five feet
>>
>>1592899
This. We shouldn't bounce around with the amulet, the book will also surely give us knowledge to work with
>>
>>1592905
>To sense souls within five feet
this seems really useful
>>
>>1592905
>How to more effectively damage the spirit, improving your Spirit bolt
Depleting our literal existence to light fires seems like a terrible idea. And I'm not seeing what the purpose of sensing souls is, assuming we maintain the standard five senses even as a wisp (or else how would we have known about the room we're in?). Five feet is well within visual range.
>>
>>1592905
>How to more effectivly damage the spirit, improving your Spirit bolt
>>
>>1592905
>How to more effectivly damage the spirit, improving your Spirit bolt
>>
>>1592908
The exceptions are, I suppose, when facing invisible spirits, and when we want to specifically find living things through opaque objects, which are both pretty situational.
>>
>>1592915
Well sneak attacks are way more difficult against us, it's way easier to plan around potential hostiles, and finding and ambushing the living(food) will be much easier.
>>
We could probally sense hidden or small souls with that thing, but yeah..only real usefull is spirit bolt
>>1592905
>How to more effectivly damage the spirit, improving your Spirit bolt
>>
>>1592918
I would agree, if the radius wasn't two paces long. Fifty feet might see occasional use. Five hundred would make it a solid choice. But five feet is terrible.
>>
Your Spirit bolt has imrpoved, now yeilding more damage. Hunger calls you again, your form shuddering.

[You must eat today, or face penalties]

You hear movement outside the door of the sanctuary, growing closer. Above you, you a chalice is knocked over.

Out side the window, you see a crow, pecking at the glass to try and enter.
>>
>>1592923
i assume it would have been improved eventually, but whatever
>>1592926
eat it eat it eat it eat it eat it eat it
>>
>>1592926
Could we attempt to possess a book and toss it at the window? Or if we're incorporeal a better idea would be to go through and spirit bolt the crow once on the other side.
>>
>>1592926
Seems like it's bird for dinner today, any possibility of taking the crow out from where we are?
>>
>>1592926
>secluded crypt full of undead
>sanctuary has windows, and crows have easy access
Is this one of those weird crypts that are inexplicably at ground level rather than underground as usual? Or did you mean 'mausoleum'?

In any case, possess the window and swing it open. When the crow hops in, shut the window behind it.
>>
>>1592926
Eat the bird.
>>
>>1592933
This is the best plan thus far, could we use our amulet as shiny bait?
>>
>>1592926
>possess the window and swing it open

The bird is totally not shapeshifting adventurer
>>
>>1592939
or a familiar
>>1592933
I've seen birds get into some weird places, if the entrance itself is open enough for small critters to get in than it's not unlikely for a bird to get in on the first floor or two, which I assume we are.
>>
>>1592933
This sounds like a good idea
Supporting
>>
You fly and possess the window, willing it open. The crow, seeing shiny objects a plenty, flys in and goes straight for your abandoned Necklace. As soon as you close the window, it grips the neck lace in its beak and flies into the air, up to the top of a shelf.

It let's out a confused car, before banging your necklace against the top of the bookshelf.
>>
>>1592950
Spirit Bolt for the win! Unless we can't eat it's life energy after killing it? Not sure if we specifically have to drain it.
>>

Spirit Bolt. Having an undamaged corpse will be a boon, being as we are surrounded by necromantic tomes.
>>
>>1592950
would a dead bird count as a small dead object, if we put the amulet on it, would we be able to possess it and walk/fly out of the room? not that I want to just yet, I'd like to stay and read the other two books.
>>
>>1592959
you do not have the power to posses animate objects, even dead ones.

14, success!

Your spirit bolt strike home, hitting the crow and forcing it to drop your amulet. It's in the air now, flying in a small circle before swooping down to peck at you.

Your AC is 15, a base of 10 with plus 5 due to your incorporeal nature

As you feel the experience of that fight shape your mind, you disapear once more into the amulet that you call home. It's no longer on the pedestal where the Vampire had left it, but you're certain the twitching emotionally dead crow next to the pretty jewellery should catch the foolish adventurers eyes.

After a couple minutes, the door is kicked open by a man wearing full plate and bearing a war maul. He's quick to enter, running up and smashing a coat pole that had one of the Vampire's robes hung on it.

"Damn it James! That robe could have been worth something!" yelled a woman in a gray robe, walking in with a little orb right behind her. "Now it's ruined." She said, looking at the torn and battered robe as the warrior wandered off.

"It could have been the vampire those villagers told us about, can't be to careful with the undead. Especially since you let Robin waste all his hymns back there."

"Not my fault he's a shitty cleric."

"Your fault those eight skeletons walked right past you and attacked him."

"You fault for letting those things in the back lines! Some front liner you are."

A human cleric, with white armored robes, walked in "Guy's, guys, that's enough. This is getting us no where. We managed to get up here, and now all the loot is ours, let's not ruin this." he said calmly, the elf and the warrior backing down from their hostility. "Besides, you're both equally shitty at your jobs." He said with a smile, ducking under a thrown book from the elf.

"Let's start looking. The Vampire who lived here must have collected something useful.

The heroes begin to search, the elven mage heading towards one of the shelves, while the Cleric seemed more facinated with the alter in one of the side rooms. "Jeez, this Vampire worships She who sleeps? How cliche. I wish we could find one of the these vampires who worhsips, idk, the goddess of sunshine or something."

The warrior looked at the cleric, lifting up some enchanted gauntlets "That doesn't make any sense...."

"Yeah right? It'd at least make ya think. This here is just redundant." he said, then called upon his magic. In a flash, the alter was set aflame, a a wave of negative energy went throughout the room before disapearing "Oh well, more renown for me."

The elf rolled her eyes, but then paused, her gaze turning towards your amulet, to you. "Ooh, I wonder what this is." She said, walking over and gently picking up your necklace, examining it with greedy eyes.

"Hmm, there's magic coming off of this...I wonder if I can appraise it..."

Her hand begins to lift, and magic begins to form at her finger tips as she shannels the apprasal spell, magic that will tell her what power the amulet holds.

Critical success!

You easily fool the elven maiden's spell, appearing as a powerful artifact of Natural Armor. The hint of greed in the elves eyes becomes almost manic, her mind likely filled with fantasies of what you could bring for her if she sold you.

"Well Yul? Is it any good?" Shouted the warrior from across the room, picking up a book and examining it, before tossing it aside as he sought more loot her could use.

The elf glared at the man, then to the cleric who was distracted "Nah, it's just a minor item. I think I'll keep it though, it's very pretty, wouldn't you say?" The elf asked, putting the necklace around her neck and gesturing to it for her male comrades to see.

The cleric looked at it, then nodded "Yeah, it matches your eyes pretty well." He said with a thumbs up, going back to his search as the elven mage smiled.

"Thanks, glad I found it." she said, caressing the jewel of your amulet as you rest at the base of her neck.

Hours pass as the party continue to loot the place, until anything of value is either destroyed or tucked away wherever it is heroes tend to keep their mountains of loot.

With a yawn, the cleric pulled out a bed roll from thin air "Alright guys, let's rest here and we can head back to town in the morning. I guess the vampire move away, which I suppose is lucky for us." he said, lying down and letting out a sigh.

The Warrior dropped to the ground, the floor shaking as his rear smashed the groun and he leaned against a beam "Jesus man, you trying to tempt fate?"

The cleric chuckled "Dude have you seen the goddess of fate? You fucking know I am."

The elven mage let out a sound of disgust, walking off "I'll take the bedroom, that way I don't have to listen to Volgan's snoring."

"You're the one who snores princess." The warrior said, presenting his middle finger to the elf as she closed the door..

Now that she was alone, the elven maiden holding your amulet once more, a wicked smile on her face. "To think I;d find such a powerful artifact in a dump like this. Oh if I sell you, I'd be set for life. No more dungeons, no more caves, no more adventuring. Just me and my books...and maybe a few pool boys." she said hungrily, hoping onto what was once the vampire's bed.

"Though, that might get boring pretty quick...I could use it to further my career as an adventurer. Probably get some better party member then those two." She said, glaring at the door. he smile quickly return, and she stared to the ceiling "Oh what wonderful thing I'll be able to do with you, my preciouse little treasure." She said, caressing the gem once more.

The Elvf wakes tiredly, and almost like a zombie, exits the room to find her comrades ready to leave. "Woah, what the hell Yul, did you froget to sleep?"

The elf's glared targeted the warrior "Choke on one you simple minded piece of shit." She said, before grabbing her bag from the door and walking out of the room, herconfused comrades following after her.

As you progress through the crypt, the carnage the prty had committed was clear. Shattered bones, fallen corpses, and piles of ectoplasm show that no undead creature escaped their invasion.

The elven woman was exhausted, shivering as her body found it hard to warm itself. She had already produced a fire ball, and was holding it close to herself, trying in vain to warm her body.

"Yul, seriously are you okay? We can wait on leaving if you need some time..." The cleric said, concern in his eyes as his hand rest on the elves shoulder. His thumb brushed up against your necklace's chain, and the elf reacted. She hopped away from the cleric, clutching the amulet and seemed ready to attack. Her mind calmed and she shook her head "n-no, I'm okay. It's just this crypt I think...Once we get back to the surface, back in the sun, I think I'll feel better. "She said, turning and moving forward once more.

You feel her anxiety, her susipicion, and her confusion. You had tasted it throughout the night, and could smell it on the elven maiden now.

The elf's eyes widen as her pace slows, your mind delving into her weakened and tired one.

"All that gold you'll recieve. The fortune kingdoms will part with just to obtain me. You'll live like a goddess for all your days." You whisper into her very soul, her eyes having a faint sheen of blue glaze over them.

"I'll be able to do whatever I want...Live like a queen." She whispers to herself, clutching your amulet tightly.

"Yes, as long as they don't take me from you." You say, causing her to briefly glance back to her comrades before looking forward. "if they find out what i am, what you found, they'll steal it from you won't they?"

The girl looked worried, her mind fighting the idea "N-no, they would never do that. They're idiots, but they'ed never betray m-"

"Wouldn't they? Your friend Volgan is a warrior, imagine what the enchantment could do for him? he'ed be unstoppable...And the cleric Robin, oh how popular he would become with his church, gifting such a potent artifact to them. All they would need to do, is take it from you while you sleep...or even kill you."

Yul's grip has become like a vice, her mind filled with suspicion and paranoia now "You should keep me safe from them, no matter what. The money is yours, isn't it?"

"it is..." She says, he eyes flashing blue before you grow silent, the compulsion complete. She now eyes her comrades with suspicion, and seems more prone to caress your gem.

You soon exit the crypt, and find yourself within a large cavern, filled to the brim with crumbling buildings and fallen towers. Ruins as far as the eye could see, spreading all the way to the massive mouth of the cavern.

"Shouldn't take us more then a few hours to get back to the village. Maybe now that we've cleared the place, they'll start trying to move back in here." Volgan said, moving ahead of Yul as Robin stayed in the back.

"Not likely. Peasants tend to hold onto their superstitions. It's honestly more likely that vampire will comeback and just raise all the dead again."

Volgan chuckled "Still the elitist huh?"

"hey I talk with gods, you can't find anyone more elite than me."

You spend another couple of hours with Yul, silent as she tries to not doing anything to draw her companions suspicion. She's not very good at it. It had already been 3 times when the Cleric asked again "Yul, is something wrong?"

"I'm fine damn it. Stop asking me." She said, quickening her pace to get away from the nearing Robin.

"I don't know Yul. you've been acting funny every since you woke up." Volgan said, looking back and down to the shorter elf through his face plate "We're starting to get worried.

The village was just ahead, the sound of bustling people and the shouts of merchants being heard.

"I-i just want to get back to town, maybe rest a bit...Yeah, I'll feel better after some rest. I didn't sleep very well."

She rsuhes forward, past Volgan, leaving her comrades watching her with worry as she entered the town.

The sun was high in the sky, and the warmth of life the surrounded you made you hunger just from the presence of it all. You didn't need to eat, but it was like being presented with a feast, the desire was there.

Yul walked quickly, heading straight for the merchant square "I need to find an appraiser, if I know how much you're worth, I'll know where to go. I doubt this backwater commune of bumpkins has enough money to even reach half of what you're worth." You feel something....Coming, as if you are on the precipice of something. Something rare for monsters of your level. The idea makes you both curious and fearful, but you quickly set these thoughts aside when faced with your current predicament.

A little girl, around maybe 8 years of age, is currently play hopscotch with her friends. While normally you wouldn't mind, but the ignorant child has decided to use your amulet as the stone, tossing you into the dirt and hopping along to retrieve you, only to repeat the process.

With her are a young human boy, and another little girl, who was an orc.

The commotion of the village had died down, the elven woman apparently being carried off to the local jailhouse by the guards from what you were able to overhear from the gossipy housewives that occasionally passed the children.

Where the other two heroes were is still unknown to you, but as it stands they shouldn't know of your existence.

The little girl picks you up, before preparing to toss you once more.

Your spell weaves its way into the little girls mind. While weak willed, you find it harder than it should be to bend the girls will. However, you eventually find a way.

"Isn't the gem pretty?"

The little girl pauses, looking at the gem closely "Yes, it's really pretty."

"To pretty to be thrown around in the dirt. A pretty necklace should be worn, by a pretty little girl. By you." You push, hoping to stop this game.

"But your string is broke" she mumbled, looking at the broken chain with sadness.

"It can be fixed. Don't you want to be pretty like a princess?"

The little girl's eye sbrighten up, and she hold the necklace to her chest, looking at how it makes her appear with a smile "Yes.."

The blue light fades in her eyes, and she holds you tightly. "I don't wanna toss my necklace anymore. It's all dirty now, and it's to pretty." She said to her friends, who stared at her as if she was weird.

"Alright, we'll just a use a rock." The orc girl says, picking up a large rock, at least large for a child, and tossing it, before hopping along the play area.

You feel hunger begin to rise within you. You should be fine if you didn't eat today, but you may be left weakened tomorrow if you do not eat.

Cause if they did, being a necromancer or a soul eating monster would be a breeze

You lie silent, your amulet spending the entire day within the little girls front pocket. Only when the sun began to set did the little girl leave her friends, eventually bringing you to a decently sized home near the center of the village.

Pushing open the door, the little girl locked it behind her with a smile, before running off to the kitchen. "momma, I'm home!" she called out, entering the kitchen then stopping. It appeared food had been made already, and no one was there. This seemed to make the girl uneasy.

The girl walked towards what must have been her parents room, and kncoked on it, the sound of shuffling being heard. Within a few second, the door opened, revealing a middle aged woman. She looked to the little girl with shock, then tried to hide the look "Oh, sorry dear, I didn't hear you. I already made dinner, so you can go ahead and grab some." She said calmly, before a groan was heard within the room, making her look a bit panicked.

"But I thought I was gonna help you make dinner tonight." the little girl said with a pout, crossing her arms, before trying to peak into the room before being blocked by her mother "Where's daddy?"

The woman put on the fake smile "Oh, uh, daddy's...not feeling well. Something happened at the market...He's resting right now, so you have to be quiet okay?" She said, crouching down and doing a shushing motion to the girl, the child smiling and mimicking the motion.

"Now I'll be out there soon, I just have to make sure daddy is comfortable okay?"

The girl nods, before running off towards the kitchen area. The rest of the night is spent eating, doing chores and studies, before spending a couple silent hours with the girls mother.

Finally, the sun had finally fallen behind the hills, and darkness came to the outside. The girl hopped into her bed, and was a bit disappointed that there was no story. Pouting, she laid down in the dark glaring at the ceiling, until finally falling asleep.

You were now within the girls home, with the family in all likelihood sleeping. The girl's will is undefended, her mind off in dreams.

You also here the currying of vermin, as is common for peasant villages, it seems the vermin live almost alongside their hosts unseen.

Within a couple minutes, a little building with a window revealing a modest library is seen. The little girl seems to not wanna go in, but does anyway due to your compulsion.

With a jingle of the door, the little girl enters and begins to browse the books, the old man tending to the shop looking rather pleased.

"Oh Elizabeth, finally taking up my offer to focus on your education?" He said hopefully, smiling to the little girl.

"No, sorry mister Harken. I just felt like coming and reading today." She said, her eyes going to the books as the old man shrugged.

"Well, its good to see the children here aren't all going to grow up as meatheads." He said with a smile, flicking his wrist to have book fly off to where they were meant to be. He then turned his back to the little girl and walked off towards the back of the shop, leaving Elizabeth alone to peruse the selection of books.

Four books catch your eye

>Auroron Monsters and you Vol. one: A reference book to some of the various monsters that call the kingdom of Aurorus home

How long a period are we expecting to use this girl for, though?

I mean, technically as a wisp we have all the time in the world, assuming we don't starve, but I'm not keen on 10 year timeskips myself.

Unless we're all on board to switch from Undead Identity Crisis Quest to Little Girl Raising Simulator Quest. Which would also be fine.

Not an insane amount of time like that, but spending a few days or even a week or two learning, getting stronger, and developing a plan to get rid of the elf if necessary seems necessary. Remember we're bottom of the barrel weak, literal fodder, we need to take what we can get, and that means planning things out.
>>
>>1593671
>>1593676
Alternatively we use her like a host, see if we can't get her to move us somewhere more...appealing. A city or anywhere filled with life to consume.

She is a good host, especially if we continue to work her own will down and make her dependent on us.
>>
>>1593676
I would be down for that. Don't know how much mileage we'll get out of developing positive lifelong habits though.

Do we have to roll or does the critical success implies that the girl reads concentrated during the whole afternoon?
>>
>>1593671
Not that we might not take the girl on as a servant to give us sanctuary in human civilization, or influence her to the point where we can befriend her, we may also just leave her or eat her. We'll have to wait and see.
>>
>>1593676
We could switch to the weakened father.
>>

we could but for now I'm content for the little kid. Kids have way more free time and nobody gives a shit about where they are as long as they come home on time and they aren't causing trouble. Gives us more freedom to do our own thing.

Youll be able to read along with the little girl. She isn't an advanced reader, but with you helping her she can do well enough. The critical success also means she's determined to read books all day.
>>

>>
>>1593693
Is reading books in this way faster or slower than our possession-based reading at the start of the quest?

Also, what level of knowledge do we already personally have? I assume that at Int 3, we at least have some understanding of basic fundamental physical and mathemathical laws.
>>
Seems reading Lost princess as the break book is the plan. Though there is not a consensus on the other book. You have enough time to read two books.

You could check out a third, but it might look odd for a little girl to be reading such advanced material
>>
>>1593698
You have above average intelligence, which include advanced mathematics, knowledge of how the world works in various ways, as well as some advanced knowledge of undead due to personal experience and being in a crypt for who knows how long.
>>
>>1593707
I vote Dark War. More likely to be useful, as it could contain information about necromancy that we could use.

Alternatively we could leave the amulet temporarily and possess these books while the girl reads Lost Princess? We have time for two, we could have our cake and eat it too.
>>
>Auroron Monsters and you Vol. one: A reference book to some of the various monsters that call the kingdom of Aurorus home

>>
>>1593717
I don't think that would be a good idea. We're not going to go traipsing into the woods with a maybe-seven-year-old to have her eaten by an owlbear.
>>
>>1593722
We could use her as a meat puppet and if she is compelled for many years as a young child she will be completely under our control as an adult and we can make her forvet about the amulet but leave the imprint in he find that she loves talking amulets then go 'get wanna be my friend's that way we can communicate easier to her while being able to still control her adult body

Also sexytimes.
>>
>>1593743
Don't forget, if we can help it we don't want to be a wisp forever. In my mind the objective in the short term is to assume a form that allows us to be independent, perhaps by figuring out our identity. Maybe then we can be freed from the amulet.
>>
>>1593722
maybe several years from now, when she's older and 'dissatisfied with small village life'

Read the lost princess with the child first

You spend the day reading, the girl engrossed in her little fairy tale as you delve into the Dark war, and the first Volume of Monsters and you.

The Dark war, being the third volume, tells you nothing of who the darklord was or how the war started. However it tells of an event midway through the war that tipped the scales further into his favor. using magic and the sacrificed souls of many, he was able to contact beings that were beyond even the eyes of the gods. Creatures that did not follow the logic or laws of this world, and who sought to consume magic. Making a deal with the darklord, protecting almost all life, her set them loose upon the gods. What resulted was a massacre, a majority of the great gods that helped maintain the world being consumed by the outsiders in a war of heaven.

It was only thanks to the gods that remained alive badning together and exhausting their power that the outsiders were deafeated, their forms shattered and becoming the abberant monsters of the world. Slimes, shape hsiifters, and blight born are but a few examples of these Aberant creatures.

With the gods to weakened to aide the mortal races, the Darklord used this to his advantage and nearly crushed all of the great kingdoms that stood in his way.

More information was given within the boo, and through it you've learned the current state of the divine and the source of slimes. You also:

>Learn the location of a nearby old darklord fortress

or

>The Burial site of one of the fallen gods

From the beastiary, you learn about the various goblin tribes that live within the country, most notably the Skull crusher tribe, goblins left to grow strong only to be nearly wiped out every couple of years by a tribe or orc to train their children and due to tradition. Another tribe lives in the capital's zoo, bred in captivity and kept as a entertaining show for the populous.

You also learn the local area should have a goblin tribe, a rather weak one, along with a small hive of Drons.

>>
>>1593826
Oh yeah, unanimous XD

The god was buried just a mile north of the village, the village have been constructed at first as a pilgrimage rest stop before growing larger.

The god was named Vrel, and he was a god of war. It was said that he lead the first defense against the outsiders, before falling in battle against thier leader in single combat. Associated with fire and steel, he was known to personally lead his followers whenever they collected for war. His death lead to the destruction of his church, and the massive slaughter of his followers.

The closest Goblin tribe, at least it's last recorded location, was somewhere about a day east, the monsters calling a small woods their home. The woods was being whittled away by lumberers, and it was only a matter of time before the goblins home would be no more.

By the time you finish, the sun ha sbegun to set, and the little girl is tired from reading. She seemed to have trouble with her book, without you there to help her, but she made it at least a fourth of the way through by the end of the day.

Returning to your amulet, you both leave and head home, repeating the night before and resting for the night.

What do you do?

Let's keep up the current plan of reading everything we can and learning what we can. A week of constant reading should be enough and at that point we can either move hosts or start serious work on making this one...proper, for our uses.

Over the next week, you manage to read through a majority of all the interesting books and tomes of the small library. Through it, you've learned more about the area around you and the kingdom at large

In particular, you learned that the ruins was once the religious center of Vrel's church, before it was laid to waste by the Darklords forces.

Of particular note, there is reference to two people who wore amulets that defended the city in its finals hours, their fates are unknown, but it is assumed they died long ago.

The little girl finished the lost Princess, and her literacy has improved greatly. She's starting to develop a love for reading, and has actually started to read another book known as the silent Anvil.

>Your intelligence has grown by one

>Elizabeth's intelligence has grown by one

Elizabeth has yet to notice your existence, but she is growing suspicious of the dead rats and her sudden desire to read.

Her parents and friends have started to grow a little suspicious, but her parents seem to think it's for the best while her friend simply heckle her.

It turns out Elizabeth's father was the unfortunate person struck by the elves fire ball. His face was badly burnt, and has spent the last couple of days recovering and being healed.

His face is still wrapped up, but he is able to start getting back to his life.

Overall, things are going pretty good. That is, it was until there was a knock at the door. When Elizabeth's father opened it, he was shocked to see an Elven mage standing in his doorway.

"sir, my name is Yul Jali, and I've come to apologize"

I don't think this is a good idea. We're weak enough that we need to be as subtle as possible, and the less people that know a secret, the less chance it has of spreading.

It's early enough that we ought to still treat the girl as a disposable minion. And for that, we ought to let her in on as little as humanly possible, making her think all our ideas are her own. In so doing, we can ditch her easily without leaving a loose end that can spread word of our existence afterward.

I feel like she'll be too much of a liability.

Having her do things without forcing her doesn't mean much when we'll be on her all the time anyway. Unless you're trying to be nice. But this is Monster Quest, where we play a soul-devouring undead, not Headpat Simulator Little Girl Raising Quest.

Compelling people around her is something we can already do, I suspect.

And grooming her as a permanent minion is something I absolutely do not want to tie us down by committing to this early on.

It requires an investment of time and effort that could be spent elsewhere improving ourselves directly, places new limitations on our actions (we will, for instance, be unable to head back to the crypt to study for weeks on end, and may find far less situations where we can kill with impunity), and (perhaps most importantly) will make it far harder for us as voters to discard the girl when necessary.

>>1594726
Perhaps, but we can already do that. When voting for a drastic change, we always need to consider what we gain in exchange for the risk taken. Things that are already within our ability (for instance, feeding on homeless people, robbers and monsters in passing as per >>1594684) should never factor into the decision.

Being able to do these things easier, perhaps, but then you have to ask, how much easier? And even so, I do not see any increased convenience in doing those things resulting from this.

"Why hello there young miss, what is your name?" You say to here, the little girl immediatly becoming alarmed as she throws the covers away and looks around fearful

8 total, success!

"Hey, it's alright. Shhh, I'm a friend."

The little girl looks around confused, before looking down to the amulet. "A friend?" She said, looking into the orange gem.

"Yes, I'm the one making sure the rats stay away from you, filthy diseased creatures."

She looked to where she had been finding the rats, then back to you "And I'm here to protect you, like a good friend, from that mean Elven lady. She attacked your dad, and from all the yelling that's going on, she may want to do more bad things."

She looked fearful, playing into your hands "but I can help you. I can protect you, and in return, you can protect me. like friends."

The little girl looks into the gen, then towards the door "I don't know...momma' stories always warn me about strangers, and weird voices..." she said, hopping off the bed and facing the door, but hesitating.

"But those stories also told of cursed princes, didn't they?"

"Y-yes, but what does that have to do with this?" She asked, skeptical as she stared into the gem.

"As unfortunate and painful of a memory it is to relive, I must humbly introduce myself. I am a prince of a forgotten kingdom, cursed by an evil woman long ago. You have cared for me, and for that, I humbly thank you." You say to her, the girl's eyes widening.

"You're really a prince?!" She said excitedly, hopping back onto her bed.

"Yes, but don't be to loud. I escaped the clutches of the witch the cursed me. But she has agents everywhere, searching for me. You don't want me taken away do you?"

"No of course not. Witches are mean, and you're nice. What's your name?" She asked, seeming to forget her worries as she conversed with you.

"Sadly, part of the curse is that I've forgotten almost everything of who I once was, so my name is lost to me..." you say sadly, the truth of what you say helping the act a bit.

"Oh, that's no good. Everyone needs a name...How about..."

Yeah I can definitely see how you would be turned off after that, Earthbender was all kinds of bad with that ending. Still though, Som has done a ton of quests and they all range from decent to pretty great. His DBZ quests are definitely some of his better stuff, and his current dbz quest is one of the best quests going on in this thread. I'd honestly recommend giving it a chance even if you're hesitant to read another som quest. Plus, he has talked about revising that last thread from Earthbender quest and starting it back up because even he admits that ending was terrible and incredibly half assed of him. Still, you don't have to if you don't want to, just saying he's a lot better at quests now.

"Zeldren?" You ask the little girl curiously.

"Yeah, like the Prince from the Lost Princess." She said with a big smile, placing your amulet down onto a pillow. "He was cursed to, so your kind of like him...do you like it?" She asked with a hopeful expression.

"It's a fine name, thank you Elizabeth."

"You know my name?"

"Yes, I have been silent this past week, but I was aware of all that occurred."

Elizabeth crossed her arms and seem to grow irritated "Why were you so quiet? It's not polite to ignore someone."

You let out a small chuckle "yes, I apologize. But I could not risk it, I've been betrayed many times by those who have held my amulet. I was worried it would be the same this time, but I was mistaken. You surely are a pure and noble girl, I'm sorry for having doubted you." You say, making the little girl smile. "However, that elven woman, she is not pure. She sought to sell me away, and tried to destroy me when she couldn't find anyone willing to purchase me."

"That's horrible!"

"Indeed, but in her rage I managed to escape. Sadly, she seemed to take her frustration out on your father. Again, you have my deepest apologies."

"It's alright. You didn't do it, and papa said he'll be all better in another week." She said with a smile, then picking you up "this is so great though, I can't wait to tell Dela and Jamie about you, they'll think I'm hero material for sure and have to let me play their games. No more stupid hopscotch." She said with an excited smile.

I have to ask you don't do that, my existence must remain a secret from other people. I would much rather focus on increasing our own power first before trying to have more retainers, we're still fodder as fuck. And if we do get retainers, I'd want it to be a group that would be under the radar, like a small tribe of goblins or kobolds, starting human/elven/dwarven/etc groups/cults is just asking for trouble.

Yeah it would take some time. Nothing we should do fast. Just keep exposing her to great evil mages through the history until she hits puberty then make her question this silly good and evil stuff. Seriously our way is more fun anyway. Until than keep hidden and eat rodent, probably cull the cat population here and there. I agree that we should stay more powerful than any minion we gather. Don't know but if we go slow it might work?

25 total!

With a flash, your words become like the command god to the little girl, who freezes and seems to become a little dizzy.

"I have to ask you don't do that, my existence must remain a secret from other people. If you were to tell one person, no matter how trustworthy, there is always the chance that it would put my life in extreme danger. There are those that fear the existence of lost souls like myself, and if they were to know I was here I would have to leave or potentially die. So please, as my friend, you must promise not to tell anyone about me."

The girl nods, completly spell bound by the command. Then, with a flash of blue in her eyes, she returns to normal "You're right, they might be my friends but Jamie can't keep a secret."

The voices in the front part of the house had calmed down, to the point it seemed like a normal conversation.

"I think the mean lady might be gone..." Elizabeth said, going towards the door to peak out.

She returned and nodded "yep, she's gone. momma and Papa are talking to each other now. I'm glad the mean lady didn't do anything bad..." she said, looking to your amulet.

"So what can you do? You're a magic talking amulet, they usually do magic and other things!" She said, hopping back onto the bed and looking at your gem.

>what do you do?

>we can vote to time skip once more, thought depending on the length of the skip, I may have you vote on things that occurred over the time.
>>
>>1596973
same! I've always imagined being like an insect king Dron
>>
>>1596976
I think just a week to two week time skip should be efficient, spend that time learning, reading, and practicing our abilities, as well as feeding off vermin and such to raise our power a bit. After that, we'll see if Zeldren is sufficiently strong enough to move the amulet on his own. How far away can we be from the amulet? and if it were to break, would we be in mortal danger?
>>
>>1596973
It would have been vastly different to say the very least XD
>>
>>1596976
I say time skip a month. In this time, I suggest either going back to the library or asking around about nearby cities, and universities or other places of higher learning there.
>>
>>1596990
You can simply abandon the amulet at anytime, and it's breaking theoretically shouldn't affect you at all.

You are bound, but only because the amulet has ties to your past life, the last ties that might still exist.
>>
>>1596992
definitely, less hiding and knowledge hoarding, probably more fighting and direct increases of influence. Goblin going for chief position, imp trying to steal souls through bargaining and such, dron king, each one would have been vastly different from the other.
>>
>>1596996
So it might be the key to ascendence to a greater form...
>>
>>1596976
Tell her about our passive abilities like our soul seeing, but leave our powers of persuasion, and our spirit bolt a secret.
And let's skip time foward until the girl is a young woman that can leave for long periods without causing a fuss from her parent. Given that she's 8 now that would be another 6+ years.
>>
>>1596996
than after a few weeks, when we feel we've sufficiently gotten everything we could possibly get from this small village, we leave the amulet with the girl and start traveling. Having someone to hold on to it and act as a home base for when we really need it is a good idea.
>>
>>1597009

>>1597025

>>
>>1597018
Meh, it's just that I'd like to act like an actual monster. Don't get me wrong, I like having the kid as a servant/vassal, but let's be real. We stay with her take her with us and people are gonna want to go all heroic. Because if we act like selfish monsters she's going to have a problem and people will cave because they'll get attached to her. I'm fine with keeping her long term as a servant and I'm even fine teaching her some,SOME, of what we know, we can even be friendly about it. But remember, we're using her, not daughteruing, not waifuing when she's older (Because Jesus anons, that's fucked up even if we weren't an undead raising a girl up to be a necrophile) we are using her. Period. We can be fond of her, but by only so much, that's where I put my foot down and it's all I really ask.
>>
>>1597036
alright, I see what you mean, we can always just leave when she sleeps once she outgrows her usefulness and smuggle out of a merchant caravan or something. Its just that while we're still weak and can't travel far with our amulet form (I'd really like to keep our amulet as it can be beneficial) it would be good to have allies
>>
>>1597036
I am loving the debate this little girl has raised with you guys XD
>>
If we can keep growing our Power while still here, and be it slowly over years. I vote we stay. We can teach the girl to keep our home Safe for us. And if she gets hungry for knowledge this can serve us pretty well. At the very least we should stay for a year or two.
>>
>>1597042
I'm not saying we just ditch her and never come back. All I'm saying is that while it's cool to have a servant, let's just not get attached to her. We're an undead, an antithesis of life, we should stick with being a manipulative being that does all he can to insure his own survival and craves knowledge and power. As long as we don't go all nice guy, then I'm fine with keeping her around, mostly as our amulet's keeper/home base when we need to rest. We can even take her with us when she's older, but let's at least wait and see how things play out first.
>>1597046
Pretty much this, but more like a month at most, then a year. I'm pretty sure we've nearly exhausted the resources in this area and staying longer than a month would probably not be beneficial at all.
>>
>>1597046
1 year is too much. How are we gonna grow our personal power? We would probably have exhausted the local library books long before a year is up and killing vermin only sure won't help us grow much.
>>
>>1597036
Well okay i See your point. And we are in agreement that becomig the dildo of death +12 would be a horrible horrible thing. I was really thinking more of a friendly relation with us shaping her to suit our needs. I mean if she would be actually loyal to us we could benefit greatly from it, i would have seen her in the role of an Apprentice in the long run. One that is at least unlikely to backstab us. But Yeah as you stated that approach has its dangers...
>>
>>1597059
>>1597060
anyways I feel like we all agree to timeskip for a short amount of time, then we can travel out of this town, letting the girl safe keep our amulet, the decision now is how long, reply here for how long you think we should time skip?

I think 1 month is good to make the girl subjugated and learn all we can from the town
>>
>>1597067
Personally I think that being friendly while compelling/conditioning her to listen to us when we need her to is the way to go. All the loyalty and friendship without the baggage and effort that comes with developing it naturally, what with being ingrained in her pschy. I am glad we're in agreement on the corpse cock though, that shit is just gross.
>>
>>1597077
A month sounds good for training and research
>>
>>1597077
One month is good. I agree.
>>
>>1597077
I guess a month will be fine. The only reason to stay longer is to wait for her to grow up a bit more but, if we don't plan to bring her along then a month should all we need.
>>
I suppose this means we also agree on her holding on to the amulet while we go traveling? From there I'm not sure where we should go from there exactly. I think we should try going back to the crypt for now. It shouldn't be more than a day away and there's probably some stuff we could learn from there, there's a book we missed and knowing crypts and hermit undead, there's probably way more research and books to read that would be useful to us. Some of them the vampire's personal collection, some probably taken off dead adventurers that got themselves killed in the crypt. If people don't want to though, we could go goblin hunting to grind and get stronger or go straight to the god's burial site, though I'd rather not until we're at least a little stronger.
>>
>>1597094
Perhaps we should find out more about our local area and its surroundings. Then we can decide where to go.
>>
>>1597094
the vampire might be back though, which might place us in a bind, I was actually going for God's burial site first but any of the 3 options we currently have works.

you also forgot about the ruins of Vrel's church too
>>
Would still prefer to stay longer. But i can agree to a month.
As a reply to the little girl, we can make a few things hover around and tell her we can See in the next room.
>>
>>1597100
if ever, we can see what happens first before we decide to travel out
>>
>>1597094
About the Amulett yes. About the crypt, it's risky until we find a way to hide against other undead that could enslave us. The Vampire is one threat, but i also dont trust the competence of the adventurers to have cleared out any other threats. Are there any other settlements that we can reach. We can suck few Peoples souls there and move on.
>>
We shouldtime skip until she is 18 and during that time develop our compultion throug trial and error untill we have complete controll of her and then we will be able to use her to take us anywhere and if people get suspicious they will think she is a witch or something similar when in reality she is only a puppet so if she gets killed we are still safe inside the amulet ready to be looted by the nex adventure
>>
Also for now i agree make 1 or 2 objects float around her to demonstrate our powers
>>
One month wins

Your tell the irl that you can hover, and sort of sense the souls of others when you are close to them. It's how you were able to tell she was so pure and noble you tell her.

A month passes, and you and the little girl combined have read all of the books in the library.

From it, you've learned that the orc race had been created by the darklord as his officers and elite guard, but betrayed him at a key point in the war in order to be welcomed by the other mortal races as an equal and an ally.

Through thi, you've learned that Orcs have a natural connection with dark magic, due to their creation. This allows them greater control over undead, greater power with performing curses, and even a technique called soul smithing. However, it is almost universal that all modern orc tribes and nation forbid orcs from performing any form of magic. It's not clear why, but many orcs have gone on record as saying that they never want to return to that darkness, that is isn't worth the sacrifice.

You also learn of a small graveyard near the village that has housed the bodies of heroes since the Dark war. This graveyard lies to the west, but dark energies have been reported there lately.

Through your research, your intelligence increases once more by one, with Elizabeth's increasing by two.

Your compulsion spell has grown in power now allowing you to

>Use the spell command, a stronger more potent form of compulsion while within your amulet.

Or

>Compel with greater power outside your amulet, but not as much as command

Or

>able to read the surface thoughts of nearby people, up to ten feet

In addition, rats and other vermin no longer provide you any nutrition. You must now eat souls of higher quality in order to be fed.

The adventurer party still is within the town, having seemed to set up a sort of home base here. They are currently out in a quest, but they usually return within a day or two of leaving.

Reports from the outskirts of the village say that goblins have begun to slaughter small animals and leave them as warnings. The nearby goblin tribe seems to be growing angry.

Elizabeth's friends have started to grow distant, due to the girl spending all her time at the library.

Her parents have become proud, and are discussing the possibility of sending her to the city to help feed her sudden thirst for knowledge.

There's a missing villager it seems, and the town has grown worried on their whereabouts.

And finally, you have grown a level.

>Choose two stats to level once. Your intelligence should now be at 5 now due to the last two boosts.

>what is you plan now?

Oh, also pick one

>increase power of spirit bolt

>increase power of Possession, allowing you to have non magical inanimate object slowly hover and move at your will.

>Spark, a spell to create a small flash of light. Good for hurting enemies eyes and igniting flammable objects.
>>
>>1597115
+1 to wis and int?

Find a way get into graveyard (we can compel the girl for this i guess) and start investigating the dark energies.

>>1597118
>Increase power of Possession
>>
So my finalised idea show her our power by makeing something float time skip to 18 or so during the first few years read everything we can in town when she is around 12 find a sword master or closest person to that there is in this village to train the girl to use a sword all this time partialy draining rats and the like attempting to learn to controll them untill she turns 15 then attempt to gain full control of the girl by instiling a sadistic nature upon her by subtle compultion (makeing her like to kill/torture) things starting with insects stepping up to rodents then cats ect which we can feed on as she kills them then when we have full controll around 16-17 sneek out when parents are asleep to go and drain livestock then by the time she is 18 we should have quite a bit of power then we should easily be able to visit any of the three sites i personaly think back to where we came from to find out more about ourself the old god tomb i think is a bad idea could be a lot of clerics and mages studying it we will easily get caught out and destroyed
>>
>>1597118
this changes a few things

1. we can hitch a ride with the girl to the city if ever
2. we need to find a better and reliable food source

if we choose to stick with the girl I think we can use the spell command

>>1597124
I feel like we're relying too much on the girl and it could be limitting
>>
>>1597124
Please no. We are playing as a wisp not as a little girl. Stop investing so much into her. Why not invest all that effort into us instead?
>>
>>1597118
OP if we completely absorbe the lifeforce of a magical enemy is it possible to absorb some of their magic? or does it only provide exp?
>>
Command
Int and con come on guys we resist damage but we have verry little health we need more
Flash gives us more options than just spirit bolt
>>
Do we have to choose a Bonus for the Compel spell or is it all three?

For lvl up i say con and cha.
And
>increase power of Possession, allowing you to have non magical inanimate object slowly hover and move at your will.

For Plans i would like to Investigate the pissed of goblins. They would make a great food Source if we can snatch a few without provoking them to attack the village. Well at least not if they have a chance to win.
>>
>>1597115
>Compel with greater power outside your amulet, but not as much as command

+ Int
+ Cha

I'd say we leave the amulet at night and hunt on our own. Stray dogs, cats, birds maybe? Those seem like the next step after rats and mice for feeding.
>>
If we're gonna abandon the girl and go full battle I'll go with

Compel
Int and Con
Stronger spirit bolt since we seem to plan fighting the goblins
>>
>>1597118
>Spark, a spell to create a small flash of light. Good for hurting enemies eyes and igniting flammable objects.
>>

Since we are bound to the amulet lets say for exaple it was stolen would we be able to sence its location
>>
Hey guys, what's our goal right now? As it stands, seems like we're grooming the girl to be some kind of adventurer before using her to maybe find out MC's past.
>>
Can we sence the location of our amulet
>>
>>1597143
You can only sense it's general direction, you would need to strengthen the binding in order to become more connected to it.
>>
Hello!
This Quest seems Fun, can I join ?
>>
>>1597115
As far as a plan goes, i think we shouldn't let the girl gain too much knowledge. If we go to the city, that might be the point to start eating her soul. Moving to a new city can cause plenty of rest issues for a young girl.
>>
I kinda want to get the girl back on track with playing with friends. At a certain point, she's gonna suspect her sudden fascination with reading and that's when it all comes apart.

Let's ease up a bit, since there've been hints that some people are getting suspicious, and as far as I know it was said that people saw the girl holding our pendant at one point.

Besides, better to get her used to not being around us when we eventually move on.
>>
>>1597151
Anyone can join Anon
>>
To clarify i want to Leave the medallion for a few days and Scout out the goblins. Not Leave the girl for a lenghty Periode of time. Especially if we could Hitch a ride to a bigger city in the not so far future.
The gobber could maybe act as a Source for sustanance, while we keep in range of the village.

For Plans I think the Primary goal we all agree on is growing our power, until we can act indipendently.
For the girl there seemed to be an agreement to cultivate her as an ally to keep our Amulett Safe at least.
>>
>>1597159
with this in mind I think we can go around hunting goblins for now warning the girl that we have to do something or "Rest" since we told her that we're stuck in the amulet
>>
>>1597157

I wouldn't be surprised - don't forget how we absorbed some of the elf mage's power just by feeding off her essence a little.

Speaking of whom, I think we should enter the adventurers' hideout while they're away and look over their stuff. Who knows, they might have a few spellbooks or something lying about.
>>
>>1597172
Oh, and I think we should use the Command spell and increase our Possession ability, increase our charisma and intelligence and maybe fairly soon visit the burial site of that god that everyone seems to have forgotten about.

I gusee we can leave the girl with our amulet and go gob hunting to increase our power.

alternatively, ask the kid to check them out, if she sees that their wounded we can go in and kill em all

We're still just a wisp, don't forget. And odds are we're going against two magic users. One of whom is a cleric, who can heal wounds.

God tomb is bad idea like i said before there will be loads of clerics mages priest's ect we will deffo be discoverd and then we will be dead

Actually i like that. SecondI d check Ing out adventurerer base. Maybe not take the girl but Check for fun stuff as a whisp and kill the mage if we get an opportunity. She knows of us.
>>
>>1597183
Alright then, how about the ruins that the Darklord destroyed? Probably some residual dark energy in there, maybe even a monster or two we could kill.
>>
>>1597184
No need to take the girl - she'd just complicate matters, and we can leave the amulet at her house without having to worry about the mage destroying it. Besides, the girl might get hurt.
>>
>>1597184
I like this plan mabe tell girl we must rest for a few days then go to hideout learn whatever we can and wait hidden in the hideout for them to sleep and sneak attack id say go for cleric first so he cannot heal the otheres then mage then warrior since his attacks shouldent effect us as much
>>
>>1597189

I feel like >>1597180 has a point that we cant fight them yet, we can visit it to see if they have anything useful but aside from that I think we should hunt some goblins since we have a bonus against them. I also think absorbing souls of stronger beings will make us stronger
>>
>>1597185
That works for me would rather go to hideout tho for now anyway its closer and we need to feed
>>
>>1597189
I dont think we should do anything that might result in combat. If we can kill them in their sleep, go for it. Otherwise retreat.
>>1597186

What about we possess a stray cat and go hunt some goblins for sustenance? If we have enough power to completely control one I would suggest getting spark (which doubles as an attack and utility spell) or, if we cannot yet dominate a cat, let´s try to upgrade possesion focusing on small animals

>>
>>1597220
Since we're up against goblins in a bit most likely, and they don't have too much access to "booyagh", I think our physical resistance will cover our con. Better to fry them with soul beam before they can gang up on us..
>>
>>1597222
We have 0 con tho we need to start investing atm 1 good hit and where as good as dead
>>
>>1597225
Don't forget, we can float away, stay hidden inside walls due to our incorporeal form, terrify the opposition into submission and otherwise do our damnedest not to get hit.
>>
>>1597228
I guess its just for just in case scenarios like when we get in a fight where we wanna kill something and we can't one hit them (meaning that they can hit back during the OP's narrative so to speak)
>>
>>1597228
Good point but id feal a lot safer with at least 1 or 2 con
>>
>>1597230
Then we don't give them the opportunity to hit back. We float through walls where they can't get us to use them as cover. We stay out of reach of their weapons by floating. That's what I'm saying - you don't have to be tough if you're inaccessible.
>>
>>1597232
Yea but what about a mage they have many of the same kind of spells we could potentially use so if we can hit them they can hit us also we can hide behind or in a wall but im pretty sure the spirit bolt wont go through walls so we would have to come out to attack which means we could get hit the second we come out mabe even before we can attack point is we can hide but that doesnt make us untouchable
>>
>>1597234
I'm assuming combat and movement uses a similar system to that in D&D - you have a set amount of movement, and you can use it before and/or after your attack. Solution: peek out, spirit bolt, peek back in, all on the same turn.

Ha, we cheesed the combat system.
>>
>>1597232
I mean come on a crow got a hit on us we resisted it but we didnt get time to hide there so what happens when we are takeing on a mage and we dont resist it
>>
>>1597239
That was way back when we didn't understand what we were capable of. When all else there's always the ground we can disappear into.
>>
>>1597239
yup this is exactly what I was thinking, what if something like that happens and it gets a wonderul 19, fucking us up
>>
>>1597241
Then it will do a shit-ton of damage to the carpet.
>>
>>1597240
We dont even know if we can go through walls yet we had to let the crow in to absorb it we didnt go out to it we dont know yet well have to try it out when we are not in combat because i dont wanna be in a fight try to go into the floor to just bash into the floor and then be exposed for longer than we need to be
>>
>>1597238
QM isn´t gonna let us exploit that forever

Anyways, each of us vote in everyone of those three categories right ?>>1597204

However, I believe I'm outvoted. So, the consensus is:
>We check out the adventurers' stuff, then go fry some goblins
>Gain the command ability, which lets us puppet people about when we're in the amulet
>Gain the spark ability, which lets us blind folk and set shit on fire
>Increase con and cha

Burden, do you agree?

>>
>>1597115
>Compel with greater power outside your amulet, but not as much as command
Guys let's not make ourselves more dependent on the both the girl and the amulet, we need to actually travel and battle without both of them. It's stupid to impede our own power by waiting 6+ years for a random kid we more or less enslaved to grow up.

>Choose two stats to level once. Your intelligence should now be at 5 now due to the last two boosts.
+1 wis
+1 dex

is it actually possible to increase con and str as both an undead and an energy being with no body? or does increasing those stats the path to forming our own body?
>>1597118
>increase power of Possession, allowing you to have non magical inanimate object slowly hover and move at your will.
>>1597124
Yeah no, I don't want to do that.
>>1597161
yes, although with the girl, it's more conditioning then anything through repeated uses of compel, until she can no longer really go against what we have to say, she will at some point simply never disagree with our opinoins because they just make so much sense to her.
>>
updated stats at this point

>10 hp
>str: 0
>dex: 1
>wis: 3
>Int: 5
>Con: 0
>Cha: 1

>girl has increased int by 3 points since first possessing her
>>
>>1597254
When we upgrade to a new form it would be cool to keep that amulet as something like our version of the One Ring.
>>1597255
Nice. Ta.
>>
>>1597254
I changed my decicion on what to do with the girl quite a bit ago now i think it is best to use her as transport to city then drain her and move on after checking out the camp and goblins
>>
>>1597257
that's cool, but we should at least plan out our abilities with at least some consideration for our current incorporeal state. The plan is to take back the amulet when it's actually feasible to, either with our physical body or with a high enough level of possession. Until we have both those things, let's try to make Zeldren independent enough from the amulet to actually go adventure without it, it'll make leveling up and increasing our power at a much faster rate.
>>1597260
We'll most likely get to know when she'll leave for the city ahead of time, we can plan to have our training/research out of the village be before that date and then use her to piggyback to the city. That all sounds good. But why drain her when we have not only an entire city full of books, research, and the like to learn from, animals, the human filth/dregs/homeless/unmissed thugs of society to feed off of, and have the girl to hold our amulet and act as our refuge in the city while we do all that so we're not out in the open? That seems like an incredible waste of the time we spent into enslaving her. If we we're gonna just off her and left with the amulet, we could have done that much earlier without the need to actually reveal ourselves to her. Goblin hunting is well and good, and we should do that before our trip into the city if we have the time, but it doesn't hold a candle to all of the crap we could get out of going to the city.
>>
>>1597271
If you read my first post about draining her in the city before we drain her we should use her to find books on different types of dark magic and then drain her as she will probably figure us out soon after that
>>
>>1597271
Don't worry about pushing for time too much. We're dead. We have all the time in the world.
>>
>>1597279
but we could just do that on our own, how would a kid even find books on the dark arts? Plus after a month of conditioning, she probably wouldn't even say anything even if she did find out. The point was conditioning her to the point that she wouldn't be against anything we did, so even if you tell me that, there still isn't any point in just killing her off.
>>
I still think a frienlier approach to handle the girl would give us more return in the long run. Why would you enslave someone trough spells if you can get an actual ally, that will reap us lasting rewards. In addition i am not sure if we can even do it in a Lasten manner, and much less if we can do it without getting really obvious to the wrong people.
>>
>>1597281
Fair play
>>
>>1597288
Yes but it would be an ally based on lies she would figure us out eventually and after all the learning she will be doing who knows what kind of spells or enchantments she could put on the amulet to weeken us especially when where not around to babysit her
>>
And the points against killing her off are (at least these)
1.she can keep our Amulett out of the Hands of the wrong people.
2.she can given us Access to stores of knowledge and Power that are protected against the likes of us.
3.the ability to manipulate our surrounding without any one Expecting supernatural stuff
>>
>>1597291
she's just a kid for now, its not like we'll be gone that long. Its still a long time before she can get on that level so I think we're worrying for nothing. We can just command/compel her later on or slowly integrate her into being evil, orrrr kill her
>>
>>1597288
We're basically doing both, we've gotten friendly with the girl and seemed to have earned her trust, while at the same time manipulating and influencing her thoughts in a way that she doesn't even comprehend. She listens to us without protest or concern, not because she's being forced, but more because by conditioning her to the point where she simply doesn't see us as a being that can do wrong, our opinions and commands always make sense, our actions are always right and have a good reason, she completely understands that whatever we do we are infallible in her eyes. That is the point of revealing ourselves to her, befriending her, and manipulating her. To get to a point where to her our thoughts are word of god
>>
>>1597294
Her int is nearly same as ours asuming she had 1 int to start now she could potentialy have 4 to our 5 she isnt that far behind
>>
>>1597294
But why leave it up to fate, we spent a month to magically mold her mind while also developing our relationship, if we chose to simply befriend her naturally, there could have been unforeseen consequences in the future. We're trying to survive in a harsh world where everything hates us, not play with a 7 year old girl.
>>
>>1597299
I agreed with you but if we leave for an extended period of time its possible that she loses her disposition to our brainwashing

>>1597298
thats actually kinda fucked up if you think about it
>>
Are there any games like this?
>>
Sorry, work got busy. Trying
To catch up now.

Could someone repost the consensus?
>>
>>1597295
I can get behinderte this if we dont really rely on her just being spellbond in the end. Because i think that is a pretty sure way to get this to backfire horribly. And the point that this is an inhospitable World where everyone is out to kill us is an excellent Argument to take any Chance to get someone who is actually on our side to Cover for us. Couldnt have stated that better myself actually.
>>
>>1597304
And because of this we shouldn't Leave her alone too long. If her power growth outpaces the development of our relationship we need to kill her. I think that's a given.
>>
>>1597316
Exactly
What is her stats anyway did she start all 0 all 1 or what
>>
>>1597309
action: scout adventures hideout, hunt some goblins

compel and command are tied I think?

spark/flash
>>
>>1597316
I think only reason she's even as high as she is is due to our direct involvement, children adapt extremely quick to new situations if they truly need to, like say keeping up and trying to understand information on par with an extremely intelligent spirit, as long as we focus on our own development we'll always be ahead of her. Her int score will most likely hit a wall at some point as she gets older, and will most likely really slow in pace after maybe another boost happening. Ours on the other hand can keep rising as long as we can improve, which as a wisp, we clearly have tons of room to improve, and with time not being as big of a factor.
>>
Scout hide out flash int con
And i change my vote from comand to the object controll thing can see that getting usefull if upgraded again after this time so we can disarm people and throw weapons back at them
>>
>>1597320

because this is monster quest, not girl mage quest. Oh well and wtf with people killing and or leaving thr elf girl all alone with the shitty team? You you mienys

You know you could just get her to hang out with a better party to go on quests with them
>>
>>1597436
The issue here is that no one has given a compelling alternative. Right now, staying with the girl seems to be the smarter move as we don't really have any end goal in mind besides "be a monster". An objective that can be accomplished with the girl and would have a higher probability of success later on if we keep grooming her as we have.
>>
>>1597454
Our end goal in my mind is find our identity, figure out how we got bound to this amulet. Perhaps a starting point would be to find the vampire whose mausoleum we awoke in?
>>
>>1597454
grooming her and brainwashing her are fine, but only for the sake of making a loyal servant. We're staying with her for the sake of getting into the city, if it wasn't for that we'd have just left the amulet with her and gotten questing on our own.
>>1597460
that would be a good idea.
>>
>>1597460
Honestly at this point i just want to be an amulet wraith or something that becomes a BBEG
>>
Also, the consensus was to snoop around the adventurers hide out, and then hunt some goblins to try and level before you and the girl are sent to the big city?
>>
>>1597462
That's my point. Wisps are apparently dead spirits who have lost their identity. If we find that identity, we could either become a more powerful form of undead (like a wraith or a poltergeist or something) or move on to whatever afterlife awaits.
>>
>>1597462
We could go wraith, but there may be other options down the line. Maybe we could gain a physical body and become a deathknight or lich, or maybe we could end up possesing a suit of armor and fight with a combination of melee and ghost magic. Maybe we go down some other path. Personally, I can't wait to see how our evolution path goes.
>>
>>1597467
Yuppp
>>
>>1597460
To be honest i dont care that much what we where before. It would be nice to know i guess. For long term objectives, I just want to make the rest of the cosmos our bitch, and that's about it. Also more mid-term, kill the elf mage because she almost blew our cover and i dont like her now.

When night came, you snuck away from your sleeping ally...slave...host? You're having a hard time deciding what the little girl is to you, but for now she's your safe zone, which is pretty comforting. No one would attack a little girl...well, no one in this village of sound mind at least.

...

You wonder just how safe this village is as you hover out the open window.

Goblins preparing to attack due to logging issues, a ruined city filled with the undead just a couple miles away, a fallen god just a single mile away, and a graveyard that apparently is going through some weirdness.

Were you any othe rkind of undead, you might have welcomed the challenge...or moaned out loud about brains for whatever reason zombies do that. You're a wisp though, the buttom of the food chain, the runt of your ilk.

But then again, you've made it pretty far. Who knows, if you play your cards right, you might just make it somewhere in the world.

You thoughts are quickly put on hold as you dive into an open barrel, barly escaping a patrolling guards notice.

Seems the guards patrols hadve been stepped up with the goblin's threats and the missing villager. You'll actually have to try sneaking by if you want to avoid being detected. Of course, you do possess some useful abilties, maybe one of them could help you get to where you want to go....

A few people are suggesting using items to distract the guards, but I think they're thinking on too small a scale. I think possessing a torch and setting fire to a house would be a good enough distraction that stealth isn't really necessary. After siphoning the souls of those inside first, of course.
>>
>>1597708
That might be a bit too big. We don't want to set off any large alarms here.

(Plus don't we have spark to start fires now?)
>>
Elizabeth might actually be extremely useful if we can keep her under the radar. We can potentially use her as a medium to influence others and make a cult, when we and she is strong enough
>>
>>1597713
I know we don't have spark. Hence, torch. Plus, accidental fires happen all the time. Maybe the family left a candle on or something. Besides, it's been over a month since anything spectacular has happened in the town. They aren't going to start thinking it's us; they're more likely to blame the goblins.
>>
>>1597719
We have read a lot about goblins. Can we imitate their obnoxious laughter to distract the guards?

I will roll charisma here
>>
>>1597738
We don't have to worry too much about an investigation - a house fire is a house fire is a house fire. They're unusual, but they happen completely by accident. If people get too riled up about goblins, they'll dispatch soldiers to the tribe and make the job of grinding them much harder.
>>
>>1597708
There are some major problems with that though. First off, someone could catch on to us, or at least figure something is going on and get suspicious. Even if they didn't and the goblins get blamed, they'll be more alert anyway, now that there's been a direct attack. Either way, it'll just make it harder on us, impeding our movement and such.
>>
>>1597745
>someone would catch on to us
It has been over a month since we've done anything suspicious. Even if some meth-head tries to draw a parallel between a girl who likes to read and Joe Bloggs' house burning down, who's going to take him seriously?

>they'll be more alert anyway
That's why we're putting up with Elizabeth. So long as she keeps the amulet hidden on her, she's our diplomat, our cover and our backstage pass. Who can say no to a sweet little bookworm?
>>
>>1597761
Elizabeth is our best weapon to date. We should probably try to keep her for as long as possible
>>
>>1597792
... that's my point. Because she's with us, they're not going to look to hard for us because they don't even know I exist and they aren't going to search her.
>>
>>1597810
And as long as we use caution, and then lay low afterwards, it can't possibly be regarded as anything but a freak incident.
And in case of a worst case scenario, we'll just frame some old woman as a witch by killing some dogs or hobos around her house.
>>
>>1597817
>>1597810
That seems overly optimistic and assumes a lot, but fine, say we waste all this time doing that. Is maybe three to six peasants worth more than a couple dozen goblins? That's not condescending by the way, it it legitimately worth more in terms of soul value than what just straight goblin hunting would get us?
>>
>>1597918
But also rember the stronger we get the bigg soul we have to eat which means if we dont go any where wheres there alot of people we gona get some people looking snak us
Even if we stay in the wild
>>
>>1597918
That's not what I'm going for. My reasoning is that as we have fairly low dex, stealth will be difficult. The reason I want to set a hut on fire is to distract the patrols and make them scramble to put out the flames, thus allowing us free access to the adventurers' hideout.
>>
>>1597337
Jesus, that's a smart kid.
We gonna groom her to be a necromancer?
>>
>>1598011
Honestly I was thinking a thief / rouge / ranger / other non-magical person. Mostly so she can't actually hurt us.
>>
>>1598018
With that Charisma, she's gonna be a Swashbuckler or a Bard.
>>
>>1598021
Are we gonna make her a party's face?

Hell we could get her training as an alchemist and shit so she could just go into combat throwing bombs / vials of chemicals into her enemies with a slingshot and potions for her mates. It'd work well with her intelligence without risking our sweet little innocent weak-willed host.
>>
>>1598024
I'd like to eventually get her to the point where we don't have to compel her and she actually trusts us in truth. Also, I want to make this story a thing in this world:
https://www.reddit.com/r/DnDGreentext/comments/64ltra/of_undead_and_understanding/
https://www.reddit.com/r/DnDGreentext/comments/6dhjd5/of_undead_understanding_the_dead_exodus/
>>
>>1598026
She does already trust us. And if we keep her isolated from her friends, she will slowly become more dependent on us...until she finally just listens...but that would be morally wrong so we shouldn't do that probably...maybe...
>>
>>1598029
I feel that might be detectable, and would probably cripple her beautiful Charisma score. (dat +6 tho)
>>
>>1598037
Someone can be good at manipulating others and be completely emotionally dead. Just look at most bitches in high school or gold diggers or any other number of people.

More seriously though, she can still socialise, it's just going to be we are the only one she knows / trusts deeply. Especially if we can get her family to send her away to further her education.
>>
>>1598029
We are playing as a monster
Fuck what is or is not moral
There is only what is good for us, and to a lesser extent what will help our host grow more powerful so she can be more useful to us.

That being said as long as we have her ear, I see nothing wrong with having her build her Cha stat by learning to be more social, its one of her best skills and it will come in handy.

With almost to much ease, you manage to hover through the town, being ignored by the guards and the people who are woken up by the commotion until you finally make it to the adventurers hide out. Critical success!

Just a couple feet from where you were looking, you find a hole leading right into the building. Entering without any difficulty, you are greeted with an empty room, but one filled with the adventurers unsecured loot they had been gathering from their adventures.

In one corner, a massive suit of armor likely worn by the warrior stands, black and gleaming from the light bleeding in from outside.

Across from it, a shelf filled with rare tomes and books gathered by both the cleric and mage you imagine can be seen, with a very large tome half the size of Elizabeth resting on a nearby desk.

There were three beds, each with a dresser near it, and propped up near the front door were some weapons meant for each of the party.

You delve into the book, titled "Cognitione Vetito". The book is a toke that has done deep studies on the nature of dark magic, a school of reach the Dark Lord created himself.

It explains the origin of the undead, how they came to be when "She who sleeps" mumbled eldritch words in her slumber and dream, throwing the natural order of life and death in disarray.

Through it's knowledge, you are able to come to understand what you truley are, and what may lie in your future.

Soul Rend is a more powerful, but shorter ranged version of Spirit bolt. By hoping into the body of another creature, you can attack their soul directly and do high damage on a successful will roll against their own.

Can not be done against enemies who are protected by magic, weather spells or enchantments.
>>

>>
>>1598869
>>gain two new spells: Soul rend and Raise lesser undead
our spirit bolt is pretty underpowered, at least compared to the elf. We need an attack that we can use to kill.

Raise undead will also let us have some meat shields, and we won't be dependent on the girl to move our amulet.

Making us too dependent on the amulet would give us a massive weak point. We couldn't have gotten to this vote if we didn't adventure without the amulet, having powers that we can use anywhere are more important than trying to turtle up

>>
>>1599064
none of the options give us the possession ability, except leveling up twice, which seems like a waste of the book to me. We'll probably level up after the goblin hunt, as we haven't killed any sentient beings yet. If we want to possess people, we'll level up the possession ability, though the other spells might be tempting.

I'm picturing us as using a bunch of possessed bodies to fight, either stolen from the people attacking us, or custom armed and armored by us. When they die, we just hop to the next body nearby. Can't do that if we are rooted to an amulet

Spells it is.

As the sun rises, you have learned your first true spells.

>Soul tend: Make a will save against an opponent, cause damage to them that ignores armor. Close range spell, must be within melee to perform.

>Raise lesser undead: Allows you to raise either a wisp to serve you, or weak humanoid as a low level zombie. Reduce will by 2 for each undead maintained. Must roll will to use.

With that, you slip out and head home, managing to sneak back into your amulet with the town distracted and arlizabeth still asleep.

An hour later, Elizabeth awakens, and her day begins.

>you have exhausted the library, so going there would be pointless.

good idea, when the goblins capture them, we can cause a race war between the village and the goblin tribe

just picture all the souls we'll be able to harvest. We should siphon some of the soul energy out of the tank adventurer, once he gets overrun by the hordes, the spellcasters will be easy prey

Let elizabeth play with her friends but go and do somehing else.

>have Elizabeth go play with her friends

I do not no why chat's raging about Elizabeth so much. She's useful and frankly more interesting than we are at the moment. Putting time into developing her is not going to have us die of old age or anything
>>
>>1599323
>>1599258
I feel like going down this route will just make us a "cursed amulet" giving its owner power but also causing their downfall. That sounds boring as fuck we have to go out there and be proactive in this game
>>
>>1599320
I do as well. Evolutions would likely give us something more useful than a melee version of our ranged attack and a spell that summons competition for food sources and gives a good chance of revealing our existence
>>
>>1599320
we'll probably evolve after we eat enough souls or get enough levels. If pokemon taught me anything, it's that you gotta make sure you get the full move list before evolving with a stone

>>1599323
that as well, though I don't know if we want her to bring our amulet with her. It'll be taken away when they get captured, and who knows what the goblins will do with it

Actually okay lets go with this, lets meet up with elizabeths friends and see where it goes, if ever we could compel them to go to the fallen god to play or make them go near the goblins, make the two other friends die while saving elizabeth, this causes
1. A war against goblins that we can feast on
2. Make sure our carriage to the city is safe
3. Possibly have more interesting people come to our place

On the other hand we can just try to loot the adventurers hideou or find our origin in the vampire crypt
>>
So, I take it people want to let Elizabeth go play with her friends?

>stay in the amulet

Or

>abandon it so you can do something else?
>>
I was thinking about maybe staying with the girl until our abilities to have people do our bidding get better, then we have her walk through the shady part of the town till she gets robbed and as a last command have her forget about us, and so we will have a possibly more apt person to go out and grind for experience, since no one will worry about a random nobody suddenly dissapearing in some ruins or leaving town
>>
>>1599378
>stay in the amulet
we'll want to convince them to go adventuring.

Either to the God grave, or to the goblins. Either way, we'll benefit. God Grave might be safer, and will make the kids confident that they're good enough to fight goblins. If they fight goblins, we tell them that they need to gear up and go tomorrow so the amulet doesn't fall into green hands
>>
>>1599378
>Command (Amulet): greater control in anyone who is in physical contact with your amulet while you are possessing it.

>Compel: Able to influence the decision's of others
can we compel people that aren't touching the amulet? Would make the adventure a lot easier to kick off
>>
>>1599378

>stay in the amulet
>>
>>1599378

We could investigate the goblins or see if the heroes are home and steal there stuff. We need to do more prep before we start a race war.

Elizabeth, and you aloing with her, go out and meet up with her friends. Jamie and the Orc girl., seemed happy to see their friend and again, and the trio ran off to go play a little bit outisde the village, at a pond.

Elizabeth was sitting on a fallen tree that hung over the water, while Jamie was knee deep in the water trying to catch frogs.

The Ork girl, (who I'm calling Zazie so i can remember easier) was swimming in the water, smiling brightly up to Elizabeth.

"Come on Lizzie, jump in already!" Zazie called up, spalshing some water up "I wanna see if you really can hold you breath for so long."

Elizabeth stuck her tongue out "You know I can't swim Zazie. Besides, Momma would be mad if I cam home all soaked..."

Zazie laughed and started to swim towards the shore "Hah, I knew you were a chicken. No way you'll be an adventurer like me!"

Elizabeth pouted "Will to, I don't need to be able to swim to be an adventurer."

"You need to be brave though, like me!" Zazie said with a big smile, showing off her large teeth. As she did, Jamie came up and put a frog on top of the Orcs head, the girl letting out and scream and brushing the frog off in a panic.

Elizabeth laughed as Zazie tried to grab jamie so she could throw him into the pond.

Great success!

With ease, you make the idea form in Elizabeth's head. With a couple seconds, she hops up onto the tree, standing tall and proud "Let's see whose brave Zazie!"

The orc girl looked up to Elizabeth with confusion, holding Jamie over her head ready to throw the boy into the water.

"Let's go to the God grave, and see who can stay longest without getting scared." Elizabeth said with a smug smile, staring Zazie right in the eye. "I bet it'll be me, naturally." She said, crossing her arms and challenging the Orc.

"Uh, didn't the village elder say we're not allowed to-Aaah!" Jamie began to say, before Zazie tossed him into the water.

"You're on. You won't last a minute against me." The Orc girl said, walking out of the pond and wringing out her clothes. Jamie began to paddle back to shore, glaring at Zazie's back.

Elizabeth smiled, then while no one watched looked down to you as your amulet rested in her pocket "As long as I got you, I'll be fine." She said with a smile, before slowly making her way off the fallen tree to join her friends.

It took the children a couple hours, a combination of small legs and short attention spans, but soon they arrived at the God grave. It lied surrounded by hill, blocking it from the villages view, and was made completely of stone.

Boulders the size of houses were formed into a burial mound, with a short obelisks at its from forming a pathway to the entrance.

Fields of flowers surrounded the grave, and a statue sat a short distance away from the entrance, Depicting the mighty god himself.

Zazie and Elizabeth ran down towards the mound with out hesitation, the flowers helping the situation, but Jamie stayed behind for a coupe seconds, too afraid to move forward, before shouting "wait for me" and stumbling after the two girls.

The entrance is wide open, having been left open apparently. Zazie charged in without hesitation, calling back "Come on cowards, we're on a quest!" In an excited tone of voice.

probably should've said that before we hiked to the grave

besides, this isn't meant for them. They're gonna be staying here for a while to see who'll pussy out first. This'll get their confidence up, especially if we use our suggestion on Jamie so he doesn't run out scream. Meanwhile, we are gonna explore on our own and find the loot. If we find any traps, we disable them. If there's any monsters, we kill them and hide the bodies. And if there's any loot, we lead them to it in the safest way possible

After that, they'll be hooked on adventuring and will kick off the race war when they get captured by the goblins

>>
>>1599888
Yes. I would like to quickly look around quickly first. Check for monsters and horrible death magic. Alternatively we let the orc girl go first.
>>
We should def. look for monsters and traps. They need the confidence of adventuring.
Think of the soul feast when they get killed on a goblin hunt, and the village cries for revenge.
>>
>>1599997
It'll be glorious, we'll have the girl leave a note saying that they're going to stop the goblin problem, by the time the parents read it, the kids will already be dead/captured.

we need to weaken the adventurers the night before they get retribution though, give the goblins a fighting chance. I think we should focus on the fighter, though the healer would be a good choice as well
>>
Only Problem i can See with a goblin/human conflict is that we need Elizabeth and her parents alive and well. And we dont wont to traumatize the little girl to the point where we can use her anymore. Last Part is probably the trickiest. If her friends get themselves killed through what she believes is her fault, she wont be readily take risks in the future. So we should at least look at other possibilities. Should be easy enough to make at lumberer go crazy or orchestrate their death in a way that is obviously the goblins fault. Will be Hard to actually plan anything until we scout the tribe.
>>
>>1600037
Eh, we don't really need them alive. If she dies to some gobbo, we can glint real shiny in the light and get him to take us back to his nest where we convince the boss to steal us.
Then we start manipulating him instead.
>>
>>1600058
Yeah so, if you have to pick between
1. a little goblin Village in the Middle of nowhere, where we can basically pick our nonexistant nose, while commanding the vast resources of something like a 20 gobbers
Or
2.a big City where we can through Elizabeth get free Access to education facilities and all the knowledge treu Contain, where we can try to get an in into the actually powercircles of this world.
You would seriously pick Option 1?
I mean of course we dont need need her... But at least i kinda think its advisable to keep her Safe for the time beeing

Elizabeth let Jamie go on ahead, telling him she'd watch his back so that he could feel a bit safer. Once he went in, you popped out of the amulet. With a brief glow, you appear in the open air, and stare at the grave.

>>
You turn to her, though to her and anyone else it just looks like you rotated "I assure you, I was much more handsome before the curse" you say, with a bit of confident humor, but adding a touch of grief for a bit of flare.

Your acting is wasted though, as the little girl smiles at you "Well I think you're pretty."

You're silent for a bit, then turn "I'll go on ahead of Zazie, Jamie and you, make sure there isn't anything to dangerous." You say? Floating forward with her giving you a mock salute before following.

Sneaking passed the children is easy enough, Jamie too scared to look anywhere but straight in front of his feet to avoid tripping. Zazie is the opposite, looking in every book and cranny of the tomb. While her head is in a large pot, giggling to herself, you fly on by without any issue.

You search thouroughly and without mistake, and find no traps. It seems the tomb was never built to guard anything from grave robbers, and seemed almost like a church, if an ancient, abandoned one. It was clear not many pilgrims came anymore.

What you did find though, was evidence that someone was here, or had been here recently. A lit candle, fresh food, and the month old corpse of the man you assumed was here to take care of the grave.

His corpse was already partially eaten away by the elements and vermin, a good number of which seemed to find a cozy little home in what was once his stomach.

A dagger, one of cruel design and obsidian glass stuck out from his back. You can only assume he died quickly, from the way his body is positioned.

A hall going deeper into the mound had more lit candles, and the sound of the children was approaching from your back.

>what do you do?

With a surge of power and an iron will, your magic pierces the miasma of death and reignites the spark within.

The body jolts, throwing itself to the ground and spawning violently. The rats that had called it home let out s frightful squeak, before the reanimating corpse absorbed them into itself.

In a flash, a lesser annexation rose before you. The man was visible, but he now possessed a mange of rat fur that went from his head down his back, and claws on his hands. A rat like tail formed from his rear. After a couple second of twitching, it became deathly still, staring at you with Not a single sound escaping it, save what appeared to be muffled squeaks within its body.

As you commanded, it turn and sprinted off into the darkness to find a place to hide.

Interesting. We have the ability to merge bodies together to create undead with unique abilities. Example: I reckon this one would be good at stealth, climbing and other rat-like things.

Maybe this could be utilised in other circumstances? (such as by placing loads of scrap metal on a corpse and having it absorb them, it gains an AC bonus?)
>>
I've just had an even better idea. We could use this ability to set up a red herring.

>Raise a zombie, have it put on the amulet
>Make the zombie show up and speak through its lips whenever appropriate
>People won't care about a silly necklace, they'll think we ARE the zombie
>When people start to get riled up, unleash the zombie in the streets while we go into hiding
>People kill zombie, think supernatural threat is over

It's genius. An emergency scapegoat.

>gained Special Technique!

>When using raise lesser undead spell, you may attempt to make an aberration instead. Aberrations are superior versions of their equivalent level of undead, possessing abilities and bonus's not natural of their origin.

>To summon an aberration, you must have a body that is viable for reanimation, as well as an additional item, creature, or resource added to the ritual to fuse them.

>However, to accomplish this, you must pass a difficult will check, as the ritual is intense and requires you to reconfigure the corpses very form to your will.

>In addition, every so often you must roll another will save, where failure means losing control of the abberation. You may attempt to regain control at any time with a will save, but require line of sight to do so.

Known abberation recipes

>Lesser Ratman (lesser abberation)
>One corpse + ~5 rats
>Abilities: ???
>stats: ???

>Control will remain on Ratman For a good amount of time before you start needing to roll.

You move along down the lit hallway, staying just beyond the children's view. You manage to hear some sounds of disgust, the children likely having found where the corpse had been.

As you progress, eventually leaving the children far behind you in passages you've check, you come to a iron door. It looks like it sports a very complex and ancient lock, one that would require a master locksmith to open likely, if it weren't already open.

Candle light bleeds out from under the door and the crack that the open door left. Inside, the sound of humming could be heard, and the potent smell of decaying flesh could be sensed.

Just caught up, I really like the idea of grooming Elizabeth into an adventurer. Also, we should make sure the Dagger isn't cursed and then give it to her - or have her "find" it - for safekeeping.
>>
With a wordless thought, Ratman drops from the ceiling above you, and proceeds to poke his head in. After holding that position for a few seconds, he opens the door and slips in quietly on all fours.

The humming continues uninterrupted, making it highly likely Ratman hasn't been detected by what or whoever is in the room.

You hear the faint sound of the children, far behind you. They were approaching it seemed. Ratman remained in the room, waiting for orders. He seemed to be standing just inside the room, not doing anything.

A wave of fear washed over your mind, your glowing orb of a body sinking to the ground as an overwhelming presence spoke within your mind.

"Ooh, look how far you've gotten. I had given up hope you'd ever do anything with the second chance I gave you." Ratman unleashed a noise, a mix of a hiss and scream, before a large thud was heard as Ratman was thrown into a wall.

"You've even learned a little trick. I'm impressed." Said the voice, this time from the other side of the door. Slowly, the iron barrier moved away, revealing the source of the voice.

The necromancer had a thoughtful expression, before crouching down and smirking, her hand gently picking you up "Oh, is that so little wisp? Tired of the big scary world making you feel small and insignificant?" She said, petting you as she looked down the hall to the voices "Oh, how sad for you." She said, hovering a bit as she retreated into the room and slowly closed the door.

"Though, it seems you have some little helpers following you. I never took you for the type to like kids. I guess things can change when you forget everything about yourself." She said, letting you go, you now once more being able to hover.

Ratman lies in the corner, a broken shamble of a corpse that was slowly putting themselves back in order.

The necromancer's wraith loomed over you, it's power overwhelming as it silently helicoptered over it mistress.

"I wonder, little wisp..." You feel a wave of unease flow through your mind "Oh...Zeldren huh?" She could barely restrain a laugh, before turning around and putting her face near you.

"Tell me, Zeldren, what should I do to your little pets? I mean, three children going to a grave unsupervised? They could get hurt, or worse!" She said with mock fear, dark energy forming around her hands.

"Maybe you care about them? Or maybe you don't, perhaps you really are a real monster?" She turned away from you, hovering over to a slab that seemed to be glowing.

The room is large and spacious, corpses and skeletons littering the floor around the necromancer's work area. it was clear she had been here for awhile, maybe as long as she had been gone from the crypt.

The room looked old, possibly being the oldest part of the temple/grave, with various pillars meant to hold the ceiling up cracking or having our right broken apart.

The children's voices were getting closer, and the wraith now seemed to be eyeing the door, hungrily.

We're not really in any sort of position to ask favors from her. We can ask her not to kill Elizabeth, but ultimately it's not really in our hands anymore.

But sparing Elizabeth and race war and sparing all the children were presented as different options, which is what >>1601432 used for this point.
>>
Since when did we actually care about Elizabeth. Also the necromancer know shit about our past, we should throw our lot in with her.
>>
What if we act humble and respectfully towards the necromancer, while suggesting letting the child with the amulet live. We can offer ourselves as an agent of the necromancer in town, in order to try to have something to bargain with.
>>
>>1601461
Ah, I worded that a bit oddly. I meant that Elizabeth and race war was presented as a different option than sparing all the children.

We don't give a damn anout her. She is a mere tool, and the minute she stops being useful I think we'll just consume her soul and move on, but she allows for a great deal of mobility while also allowing us to be bellow the radar. By the simple feat of having legs, not being dead and have the willpower of a brick, she's too useful to us right now

If it please you, i would ask you to spare one of the children. The one that carries the amulet, I still have use for her. You could make her believe, that the Group of goblins, that lately threaten her hometown, are responsible for the death of her companions. The villagers Wouldn't let that stand and would be too preocupied to bother you for a while. As a Bonus they will provide many delicious corpses for your work.

We cant show weakness to such a powerful being, how might she react if we started caring for the child, very un wisp like, besides, there will be other opportunities to grow, maybe ones we dont have to wait many years for a child to go to university to utilise.
>>
Also 1000 Post yay!!!
>>
>>1601636
Your kidding right?
Showing weakness to her means showing up on our part. And she know that very well.
She would probably be mildly amused if anything. And if we are not showing that we can be clever, we are probably absolutly useless to her besides providing mild entertainment.

Protect Elizabeth

>>1601636
We don't even need to show it - she already considers us pathetic. Even without her pet, she could probably kill us as casually as scratching an itch, but she's having us make a choice as entertainment, just to see what'll happen. Self-preservation is the order of the day.

What is this luck? Are you stealing luck from other Quests?

"If you plan to kill the children, at least spare the human girl who bears my amulet. She is key to my plans, and my attempts at growing stronger."

"Oooh, more reason to peel her skin from her bones, just to watch you squirm a bit more." The necromancer said, not looking to you as she had her hand glide over the surface of the slab.

"If you were to say, kill her friends, she could be made to think the goblins did it. With the local tribe's threats against the village, it would keep the villagers and the local party of adventurers busy. Might keep more people from stumbling on you, and provide you a nice supply of fresh dead for your work."

The necromancer glanced back, a smile on her face "And what's to stop me from getting fresh dead on my own?"

You float, but feel a bit of pride "Why, your work of course. Surely your work is to important to waste on that kind of work, and if you were to do it openly, it would only attract even more pesky heroes. More distractions, and more chances they'll ruin your work."

The necromancer stares at you for a long while, the wraith letting out a hiss as it's stare was once more on you. Then with a giggle, the necromancer disappeared in a puff of smoke, then reappeared behind you, cupping your form in her hands. "Well said Zeldren, perhaps you do have some potential." She said, before snapping her fingers.

The wraith immediatly flew towards the iron door, phasing through it and disapearing, the sound of children screaming be heard.

"It's a deal. Make sure the little girl does what you say, else I'll just have to come give you a little lesson in keeping a promise." She said, before hovering away towards the door.

It slammed open, Elizabeth, running in with horror in her eyes. She was covered in blood not of her own, and tears were in her eyes. before she could react, the necromancer grabbed her head with both hands and lifted the little girl up to her level.

With a flash of green, the child fell asleep, and was lowered to the ground gently. "You have three days to start this little war Zeldren. Three days before I get bored of this game." With that, she snapped her fingers, and both you and Elizabeth reappeared at the entrance of the Grave.

Ratman also appeared, landing unceremoniously adjacent to your position.
