You consider asking Koko why you getting captured is a good thing but in the end you don’t. Koko is your ally, sometimes friend and your current employer, but you definitely don’t understand her. Not in the way you understand Morrigan, Nem, Cath and everyone else at MMS.

Thankfully the ride doesn’t seem to take much longer and the truck eventually stops. You hear men getting out of the trucks, coming around to the back.

“Don’t struggle Will,” says Koko quietly as the truck gate is dropped.

You nod, just as strong hands grab you and pull you from the truck. You don’t struggle, there’s no point and Koko told you not to. A bag is placed over your head, preventing you from seeing anything as two men take you inside what must be a building of some kind. You feel yourself nearly dragged up several flights of steps, stumbling along the way since you can’t see. Eventually the stairs stop and you are dragged down what can only be a hallway.

You stop briefly, a heavy door opening and you are dragged through. You are dropped in a chair, your legs nearly kicked out from under you. They untie you, only to tie you to the chair. Then you hear the heavy boots leave, the door shutting behind them.

The only thing you can hear is the sound of your own breathing, you can see nothing and smell nothing beyond that of an old building in disrepair, something which helps you not a bit given that you were told much of the city is like that.

Time starts to pass…

As time passes you start to get a little sleepy. It’s been a long day for you, your freak out in the morning, going out on the trip with Cath and Bellona and then the whole dance with Koko, which included you getting shot a few times. Those sort’ve hurt still, so you decide that catching a bit of sleep while you can is a good thing.

You let your head drop down, your eyes already closed as there’s nothing to see in the first place. You don’t know how long it takes for you to fall asleep but you aren’t asleep for very long before you hear the heavy door opening. You jerk slightly, your arms inadvertently flexing against the chair and letting you know that you’d have to struggle very hard to get out of them, you don’t think they’d let you do that.

You hear multiple sets of boots on the ground, most of them sounding calm and business like. A few sets go in front of you, one of them going behind you. A chair scoots, somebody taking a seat in front of you.

“Take off the hood,” says a smooth voice, a woman’s voice.

You feel the hood being taken off and you blink your eyes. In front of you sits the woman, a light smile on her face.

“It seems that you are not scared by little theatrics my friend,” she says, “You are made of sterner stuff than being afraid of the dark.” Her smile is… unnerving, at least a little bit. It reminds you of Koko’s, if Koko wasn’t your friend.

“However… we don’t know anything about you. You are a ghost, a nobody. As far as the world is concerned you did not exist before you came back east with Ms. Hekmatyar.”

She pauses.

“So… in the interest of keeping this all as civilized as possible, won’t you tell me your name?”

She seems to actually smile at this point and lets out a short bark of laughter.

“Very well Will. We can continue our little conversation then.”

You pause, looking at her closely.

“Is something wrong?” she asks you.

“I don’t know your name,” you say to her, “Or who Ms. Hekmatyar is.”

You feel the guard beside you shift, his hand falling on your shoulder until the woman in front of you raises her hand.

“Not yet,” she says in a firm voice. Again she scrutinizes you, as if trying to see inside your head.

“You may call me Sophia,” she says with another of the weird semi-Koko like smiles. “As for Ms. Hekmatyar… did your employer not tell you her name when you were hired? I would not put it past her but you did seem to know her quite well, our reports indicate you even went into a room together with her on several occasions tonight.” She pauses. “Do you still claim to not know her?”

Your mind puts togethter the pieces pretty quickly, the only person you went into any rooms with was Koko so she’s probably talking about her.

“Do you mean Koko?”

The lady looks a bit surprised, the guard shifting slightly but you can’t see his face beneath the mask.

“Yes… Koko. So you do know her.”


You nod to her.

“What exactly is your relationship with… Koko? Many of her crew we already know but you… you are new.”

You pause, wondering how to answer.

You try to think about how to describe Koko. There’s only a million different things to think about when trying to. She’s simultaneously completely nuts, sane, happy, mean, in charge and letting everyone do stuff for her. You’re not sure she’s your friend and she’s definitely your boss, but then again she may not be and she doesn’t always act like it.

Apparently you were taking too long, as the guard behind you shoved your shoulder. You look up at him and he points at the woman in front of you. You look back at her and she gives you another one of the Koko smiles.

She raises an eyebrow at you.

“You aren’t being very helpful Will,” she says.

The woman continues to peer at you, trying to discern if you’re lying.

“Then she does her smile thing...” you attempt to do the same, “Like you do.”

The woman blinks in surprise, what you can tell is a real smile coming to her face.

“You’re perceptive aren’t you?”

You just shrug.

She continues to smile, leaning forwards and placing her elbows on the table.

“So if Koko is so hard to describe… why don’t you tell me what happened between you tonight.”

You nod to her and start to explain to her what happened. You tell her how Koko asked you what to do up on the dance floor after seeing the lady, then how she bit your ear and was all close to you. Then you tell her how you killed the four men who were trying to kill you. She asks for details on that and you explain how you shot them, attempting to use your hands on instinct but being stopped by the rope around your arms. Then you describe how you went and took a shower with Koko, causing her eyes to widen for some reason and then you tell her about the sale and how you got captured.

The woman looks at you as you finish, a real smile coming back onto her face.

“You’re quite the catch aren’t you Will,” she says, looking at the guards.

“How about we make a deal,” she says, “If you promise to behave… I’ll do something nice for you. What do you say?”

She smiles at you, gesturing to the guard beside you.

“Ma’am...” he says, only to be silenced by a quick hard look.

You doon’t know how the guard knows to do so, but he quickly undoes the bindings on your arms and then steps back. You look around at the guards, seeing that all three of them were wearing the heavy masks so that you couldn’t see their faces, leaving only the woman’s uncovered. You stretch your arms a little bit, feeling blood flow back into your hands and fingers.

Sophia smiles at you, then gets up from her chair and moves to sit on the table in front of you, very slowly crossing her legs for some reason, which you watch because of how deliberate it is. Then you look up at her and see her smiling at you, so you smile back.

“Isn’t it nice to have your hands untied Will?” she asks you.

“Yes,” you say, nodding to her.

“If you promise to be good I’ll do more nice things. We may have to move you around, since we aren’t going to stay here for much longer, but I can make life very~ nice. Food, water, whatever you may like. Afterwards well… afterwards there would be all sorts of things for you.”

“What about blankets?” you ask her, quickly focusing on the important things in life.

“Blankets?” she asks you, temporarily confused by your statement.

“I don’t like being cold,” you say earnestly.

She smiles at you, her mouth going even wider at that comment.

“I can make sure you’ll never be cold again Will,” she says, “So… will you behave and do what I ask you to?”

It’s all done very quickly and professionally, leaving you helpless once again.

“I tried to do it the nice way and I thought you were being responsive but I see it was all an act. You’ve wasted my time, so now we’ve got to do this quick and dirty.”

She nods to one of the soldiers, who immediately punches you in the side. It hurts, it hurts quite a bit, but you’ve dealt with pain before…

“Now, you’re going to do what I say,” Sophia says angrily, “The only thing that’s up to you is how much it hurts before you do. That is only a taste. Are you going to listen?”

Your body hurts… but it’s nowhere close to the worst you’ve ever been hurt. It seems like they’re going to try and get you to do something that’s not very nice someone… maybe even your friends. So you again shake your head no, this time not bothering with words.

“Very well,” she says, nodding to the guards.

It’s then that the fists starts to descend. You feel the first couple blows, then you start to descend into your place. It wasn’t something you could go too very often as your beatings were often only very short. However you seem to know ahead of time that this isn’t going to be short or painless.

You start to drift off, your eyes still seeing things and your body still noticing the hits. You can’t go all the way out, you’ll get hurt more. Instead it just sort of… reacts to the incoming blows to make them as painless as possible.

In your mind though… you’re alright. Before you were just sort of full and warm and not in so much pain. Now though… now you can see bits of MMS and the people around you. They aren’t saying nice things to you, you know that things aren’t very nice right now. They are giving you reassurances that they’ll come for you.

You don’t know how long it’ll take for them to come find you, you aren’t that smart. You do know that they will come for you though. That’s all you know and that’s enough for you. You don’t know how long you’re like that, the pain stays away but you don’t know much else either. Eventually it stops, your eyes flicking open to see a creepy smile on Sophia’s face.

“You didn’t feel that did you?” she says, her hand coming to caress your chin.

You nod your head no somewhat listlessly, you still don’t feel the pain but you can feel the stiffness.

“We’re going to have so much fun,” she says, the smile staying on her face.

You know you’re going to hurt a lot later. Quite a bit if the smile on her face is any indication. Yet it still feels nice as she runs her fingers through your hair.

“If only...” she says, “If only you were not so stubborn.”

You give her your own version of Koko’s smile and she smirks back at you.

“So much fun.”

A sudden loud burst of gunfire draws everyone’s attention. Then another. You think you can hear swearing.

“Find out what that is,” Sophia directs her guards, a frown on her face.

She looks down at you. You give her a smile.
