Hi! You might remember my Paper Mario quest a few months back. It's time for another go at that. With stats and everything!

After each update, you'll have 10-20 minutes to vote on each option, depending on the importance and how many posters are here. Rolls

Welcome to the Glitz Pit!

You step off the airship, your body trembling. The floating city of Glitzville is a lot smaller than you figured it would be - there's only, like... two places for food. How do they even get shipments here? Do they have a farm or something?

You shake these questions aside for now, trying to curb your nervous energy. It's a short walk to the main reason you've come here. A large, brightly-lit building stands directly in front of you, styled like an ancient coliseum, with the visage of a neon Chain Chomp looking down to greet all curious guests. It's unnerving, really. But you haven't come this far to be scared off by a big dumb open sign!

...speaking of which, where ARE you from? Who even are you?

>A. You're a smart Toad, from Toad Town!
>B. You're a tough Koopa, from Petalburg!
>C. You're a fierce Goomba from Goomba Village!
>D. You're a powerful Bob-omb, from Fahr Outpost!
>E. You're a fearsome Boo, from the Forever Forest!
>F. You're a hungry Yoshi, from Lavalava Island!
>G. You're a rocky Cleft, from Dry Dry Desert!
>H. You're something else entirely! (Pretty much any Mario race capable of speech, I'll say if something isn't allowed)
>>
>A. You're a smart Toad, from Toad Town!

Welcome back
>>
>>1566466
H. You're a thieving Little Mouser from Dry Dry Outpost.
>>
>>1566484
Good to be back
>>1566499
This is acceptable, if it gets more votes
>>
>>1566466
Been about half an hour, but I'll leave this up for a little longer for other anons that might pop in
>>
>>1566499
Seconding the mouser. Looking forward to robbing everybody's items and sneaking around where we aren't supposed to be.
>>
>>1566466

...I can't decide. I like all the choices! At least that means I'll be okay no matter who wins.

>H. You're a mysterious Shaman, from Star Hill!

You are, of course, a Little Mouser, from Dry Dry Outpost! You're fast, sneaky, and know how to get out of a bad situation without getting hurt. Maybe those skills will come in handy soon. Over the years, you honed your skills by...

>A. Stealing from the marketplace as often as possible (+Stealth, +Sleight of Hand)
>B. Talking your way through many deals in your favor (+Cunning, +Profession)
>C. Mugging unsuspecting travelers in the back alleys (+Jump, +Hit)
>D. Laboring for merchants with heavy goods (+Strength, more coins)
>E. Working less glamorous jobs for desert Bandits (+Intimidate, more coins)
>F. Running games and scams in the back alleys (+Cunning, +Sleight of Hand)
>G. Learning fortune telling from a Shaman (+Magic, +Knowledge)
>>
>>1566635
>F. Running games and scams in the back alleys (+Cunning, +Sleight of Hand)
>>
>>1566635

>G. Learning Fortune telling from a Shaman

Sham-Mouse. Hee.
>>
>>1566635
>>1566641
>>1566696

Whoops, I meant to specify that you're supposed to choose two options. If no one else posts, I'll combine these
>>
>>1566641
>>1566696

You spent many days in the back alleys of Dry Dry Outpost, running games that would almost always come out in your favor. Of course, you knew how many of them would go; time and time again, you would visit Merluvlee's tent to learn your fortune, and picked up a little bit of magical talent yourself.

Not too long ago, though, something happened that inspired you to get stronger, or challenge yourself. What was it again?

>A. You were beaten to a pulp after being accused of cheating in a card game
>B. A close friend was in danger, and you couldn't protect them
>C. A shop you like is going under, and they need prize money
>D. You owe a massive debt to a group of Bandits, which you'll pay back in coin or fist
>E. You found the ancient Dry Dry Ruins, but can't plunder its secrets without some training
>F. Something else (Specify)
>>
>>1566788
>F. You're not exactly intimidating, no matter how hard you try to be.
>>
>>1566837
No other anons here, it seems. I'll go with this then
>>
>>1566837

As a small mouse with little physical bulk, you have a hard time making anyone take you seriously. You can catch anyone by surprise, sure, and your hands are quick; but if you were to face someone head-on and demand their Coins, they'd probably laugh at you or just walk by. Certainly not speaking from experience there.

That's why you're here, at the place all tough guys gather. The Glitz Pit is where you'll be able to toughen up, make people know your name. Just imagine going home a high ranking fighter, or better yet, the champion! You'd get respect, the weaklings would fear your name... play your cards right, maybe you could get people to hand over their goods just by saying who you are.

Yeah, they'll all learn to fear the name of the mighty...

>A. Squeeker
>B. Ratso
>C. Mousio
>D. Cheeser
>E. Ears
>F. Something else
>>
>>1566922
>>D. Cheeser
>>
>>1566922

I have some more suggestions. They're all names of cheeses that I thought sounded fun.

>Saga
>Adelost
>Havarti
>Acapella
>Halloumi
>Rodoric
>Rushan
>So
>Chechil
>Domiati
>>
>>1566922

Hmm... what about

>F. Cheezeat

If not, I'll go with

>D. Cheeser.
>>
>>1567046
That gave me an idea.

>>1566922
Changing my vote >>1566942 from Cheeser to Cheez-it or Cheezit.
>>
>>1567058
I kinda like Cheezit. Like... Cheezit, it's the cops.
>>
>>1567046
>>1567058
>>1567186

Cheezit! The toughest mouse in the Mushroom Kingdom! Your day will come soon!

With no more hesitation, but a lot of nervousness, you approach the door to the Glitz Pit, passing under the neon Chomp and into your destiny.

>End for now

Thanks for coming out, guys! This was more or less going to be a slow session to character-build and draw out other anons that liked PM Quest, if any are still around. I plan on running with more frequent posting tomorrow evening, so I'll see you guys then.

Follow the twitter, @GRANDMASTER_QM, to see when I start running. I'll be around for questions, and I'll get a proper character sheet for Cheezit tonight at some point.
>>
>>1567311
I remember a quest like this.Only it didn't get to finish or really start
>>
>>1568577
The Paper Mario one that this guy did early or the one QM that ran a Bowser quest? Is that Bowser even still alive?
>>
>>1568978
Idk. I followed him for a while but then he made a new quest about a paranoid schizo who goes around killing innocent monsters who hang around him because he gives off an absolute fuckton of emotion.

After he killed the adorable loli I kinda stopped paying attention to it.
>>
>>1568978
Honestly I would have been fine with it as a quest if it hadn't started off as a slightly demented slice of life, then made a complete 180.
>>
>>1569133
Also me. Posting on phone.
>>
>>1569133
That's terrifying

Also, I made the character sheet for Cheezit, but forgot to post it before going to work. Whoops

Expect me to run in, say, eight hours

The sliding glass doors open for you, and everyone else pouring in and out of the arena's hall. The crowd is mostly Toads, normal for this type of place. There's also many Koopas and Doogans, from Rogueport presumably, lurking in the hall.

In front of you is a large set of double doors, behind which the roar of a massive crowd can be heard. Encircling them are stairs on either side, which seems to go up to balcony seating. Further still are what look like backstage doors, both guarded by some intimidating looking men in black suits.

The tough-looking guy is on his guard, but you know how to deal with guys like this.

You climb the stairs quickly, ascending onto the balcony above where the door is. When the crowd in front of the guard is particularly noisy, you drop down from above, right behind him, and quickly slip through the door. Easy.

What you see beyond this entrance is a long, narrow hallway. Blue suits stand along a few doors to your right, and a big set of double doors, apparently metal with a red design painted on, is visible ahead of you. This looks like one side of the stage, where one of the fighters would make his grand entrance. That's gonna be you soon.

"Hey." A voice startles you from the side, and you whip around to see a big blue guy staring you down from behind his sunglasses. "Haven't seen you here before. You a new fighter, bub?"

"Y-Yep!" You say out of instinct.

The blue bouncer stares at you for a brief moment. His silence is broken by a grunt and a nod. "Okay, follow me, bub."

The blue guy leads you down the hall, past a few doors, stopping at a nice-looking wooden door with a placard on it reading 'Office'. He opens the door, leading you into what, predictably, looks like an office. There's a fairly expensive-looking desk with an cushy office chair behind it, and two not as nice looking roller chairs on it. There's a few bookshelves, plants, and a big air vent near the ceiling to your right.

"Wait here. Ms. Jolene will be in soon."

With that, the bouncer leaves you.

Your search leads you around the bookcases, where nothing of interest lies, through a few shelves of collectibles and Glitz Pit memorabilia... who's this blue guy with sunglasses? Eh, who cares.

You start rifling through the files on the desk, seeing if there's anything interesting, or incriminating...

The first folder is labeled 'Tubba Rubba', with a picture of an enormous green Clubba on it. Seems like he's a fighter? Looks like this file contains his positive and negative aspects - a big strong guy that fights with his bare hands, but has a timid personality off-stage. He appears to be a Minor League fighter.

The second one, another fighter file, is titled "The Seer", and the fighter looks like a Shaman. Seems like he relies on magic, and favors blasting fire at his opponents. Apparently, he's very weak physically, so he tries to keep his foes at a distance with his magic. Looks like he's in the Major League.

The third fighter file shows you a Bandit named Silverfingers, who apparently comes from Dry Dry Desert. He likes to steal his opponent's weapons and items in the ring - and tends to take unattended things in the locker room. Seems like a clever fighter, but he's Minor League as well, so he must not be very tough.

As you finish reading, you feel a chill, and look toward the door - which has since been opened, and you see a pink-spotted Toad in a business suit, with pointed glasses, staring you down.

"Excuse me. Why are you rifling through my documents?"

>A. Just putting them away for you... (Cunning)

"Just... putting them away for you..." You quickly shuffle all the files into a neat pile, fast as your tiny hands can. "Maybe looking for an edge, too..."

The pink toad looks at you oddly. "An edge? I've never seen you here before. Are you trying to gain an advantage before you even try to sign up as a fighter?"

Too nervous to say anything, you just stare blankly at her.

"...smart. You're a go-getter. What's your name?"

"Cheezit," you sheepishly respond.

"Good to meet you. I'm Jolene, head of the Glitz Pit." Without missing a beat, she walks around you, taking a seat at her desk and putting all the loose files in her drawer.

"You didn't answer, but I assume you're here to become a fighter." She shuts the drawer, and opens another, taking a stack of papers and laying them on the table. "Very well. Fill all this out, then."

You stare at the paperwork, seeing everything you have to sign. It doesn't seem like much. Just gotta fill out your name, birthplace... your stage name?

"Your stage name is what the crowd will know you as," Jolene interjects, seemingly knowing where you've stopped on the page. "It should be something simple, but catchy. Nothing too cliche."

Hmm... what could your stage name be...?

"The Big Cheese!" You proudly proclaim.

Jolene just looks at you blankly.

"Sure... we'll write that down." She takes the paperwork and asks you various questions, writing things down as you answer them. She then goes on to explain the mechanics of the Glitz Pit, how the ranking system works, mostly stuff you already know.

"You may have noticed some fighters bring allies in to fight with them. You can ask any of the fighters ranked above you if they'd take you on as a partner for a match. However, you will not be able to rank up from these fights. Still, they may provide you with experience for future matches, when you take on the opponent for their own rank."

So basically, if you're not the top rank on your side of the fight, no rank up for you. Pretty simple.

"Now, if you don't have any other questions, we'll take you to the Minor League locker room." Jolene snaps, and a blue guy in a suit instantly comes into the room to escort you. "I suggest getting to know the people around you rank. Knowing their tactics and personalities will make for a more interesting fight. Of course," she holds up your file, before putting it in the drawer. "Evidently, you already had that idea."
