When last you let off, you were being celebrated for your oddity and enthusiasm by Ruth and Mr. Clain, the theater teacher. Donna doesn't seem so interested, and remains sitting on a far-off chair as Ruth puts a hat on your head. Flores smiles at you and giggles before leaving you be to talk to Mr. Clain. You are now wearing a feathered cap from the prop box. As you spend some time here, Mr. Clain asks you about Theater. He sits down on one of the chairs near the stage, interested in your interpretation of Hamlet's character.

"You seem to know your stuff well enough. Did you want to pick Theater as an elective? You only get three, so I won't feel too awful if you decide to focus on something else. Feel free to come back if you want to make your decision later."
He lets you think it over.

Theater may help me improve my Charm, and my understanding of Myths...

>>Do you want to join Theater?
>Yeah, I think I could really benefit from it.

YAY THEATER. I spent too much time in this realm to say no.

"Well, I've been lobbying for Death of a Salesman and Julius Caesar myself. Principal Brown wants us to do a performance based on the semi-sequel to Peter Pan, Peter Pan in Scarlet, and so far the most popular suggestion is A Midsummer Night's Dream. Not too awful, but I'd like to do something... Unique."

For once, Donna stands up and walks over, unsatisfied with what she hears. "Peter Pan is for kids. Why would Mr. Brown ever suggest something like that?"

Mr. Clain shrugs. "No clue, he just suggested it. Said you all might learn something from it."

Price turns up her nose slightly. "Really? From Peter Pan? Yeah, right."

"Peter Pan in Scarlet," Mr. Clain corrects her. "If you have a better idea, I'm perfectly willing to bring it before the Principal."

She thinks for a second, then suggests, "Antigone. Or any of the plays involving Oedipus. Or all of them, for that matter."

"Not a bad idea." Mr. Clain thinks.

Donna passes you a look that asks you to back her up.

>>What do you have to say about Antigone?

Donna is happy you backed her up, but then she blinks when you mention Faust, not expecting it.

Mr. Clain likes the idea, though. "Hm. Arguably the greatest piece of German literature... I'll keep it in mind. Antigone, too."
Suddenly, the bell rings, breaking the discussion. The theater teacher stands up. "I think that's the 'class bell' for today, signalling when they expect you to cycle from one to another." he nods to you two. "I hope to see you later."

It seems you've been given an unofficial dismissal. More people crowd into the gym, including a tall, beautiful-looking redhead woman a little older than college age in formal wear, who approaches you. "Hello. I take it you're Solomon Read?" When you confirm this, she hands you a miniature package. "I'm Ms. Crew, the school secretary. Mr. Bennet wanted to ensure that you had this." The box is no bigger than your fist, and quite slim.

Donna seems very curious as to what it is, and stares at you as if expecting you to open it.

The secretary crosses her arms. "I expect you'll use this responsibly, though if you need more instructions than those provided, I would suggest asking Mr. Bennet."

"What is it?" Price asks, but Ms. Crew ignores her and walks away, infuriating the reporter.

You can head for another elective, another class, or there's always... This thing.

Donna walks behind you a while, trying to catch a peek at what it is you have in your hands, but eventually Ruth guides her away as you stow the package in your pocket and continue to look for the computers room.

When you step inside, something catches your eye immediately, unnerving you a bit-There's a full-sized human doll in the shape of a student sitting at one of the desks, complete with uniform.

Except that it's not a doll at all, or at least he looks human when he begins to move. He averts his eyes from you, looking at the desk in front of him. A few students in the back are whispering amongst themselves. It seems this was a false alarm, and the boy in the front row is simply a very nervous man about your grade or a grade lower.

"Is he a transfer student?"
"He looks lonely."
"Well, then you keep him company."
"Aw, he must be homesick."

Mr. Bennett sends them a glare and stands up as you walk in. "I'd like to talk to you after class," he says, a little harsher than entirely neccesarry.

"Busted!" snickers a boy in the back.

Mr. Bennet puts his attention on this athlete. "Since you're paying such attention, Mr. Martinez, I suppose you can tell me how to write the number seven in hexadecimal?"

Your antagonist chokes on that, and struggles for an answer for over half a minute. "Well, uh, you see, you divide it by six, and then..."

"It's seven," says the boy in the front row. "The number is unchanged between decimal and hexadecimal." His voice is calm, almost soothing.

"I-I knew that!" Martinez crosses his arms and tries to cover for himself with muttered excuses. Mr. Bennet merely signs and begins to describe the class in-depth. Mostly, it's about computer safety and structure, but there's some programming.

I might be able to improve my Proficiency and learn how to create programs or tools using electronics...

His voice fades into monotony as he goes over the details of the class, and you find your focus drifting.

As the teacher drones on about the dates for each checkpoint, you pull out the package he apparently had sent to you. He won't mind if you open it in his class, will he?

Quietly shuffling with the tape for about five minutes lets you take the lid off, and what you see inside is a case holding a long, thin, pen-like object with a light on one end and a button on the opposite side where one might put their thumb.
There's a series of lights on the side, apparently showing how much power the strange flashlight-thing has left. It is currently powerless. Putting it to the side of the desk, you look at the strange boy in the front.

He has brown hair in a crew haircut that's been grown out slightly. His behavior and impeccable dress suggest that he comes from a very formal school, as his body language is very conservative. In fact, his focus on the teacher is a bit unnerving, as he seems to be absorbing anything Bennett says as if it were gospel. He's not that athletic or intelligent-looking, but you suspect your little sister back home would find him quite handsome, or at least 'cute'. He doesn't have any blemishes or obvious flaws.

Almost as if he had felt your gaze, his line of sight breaks for a very short period and turns towards you, before he becomes visibly alarmed at the pen-like object he sees on your desk. He gasps, but quickly goes back to looking at Bennett, obviously disoriented.

Right before the computer teacher makes the connection between these two events, the bell rings. As he stated before, Bennett requires that you stay behind, with the boy in the front. Martinez gives you an odd look as he leaves.
Once the rest of the class clears out, Mr. Bennett closes and locks the door.

"Solomon Read, meet David Evelake." He waves to the brown-headed boy to shake your hand, which Evelake does awkwardly.

"It's nice to meet you," he rotely greets you. "I'm sorry, I've never been in a school environment like this. I was homeschooled."

Bennett brings out his flask and takes a sip. "Durandal is going in for that injury you saw him sustain. Until he comes back, I called in a favor- he'll be your backup. I figure this was an opportunity for him, too."

David doesn't seem to be acting like it's an opportunity.

>You seem to enjoy learning, at least.
David seems happy to find common ground at last. "Yes, of course. I can't very much help other people without knowledge, after all."

"Turn down the Boy Scout a bit, would you?" Mr. Bennett rolls his eyes behind his sunglasses. "Anyways, if you see the others around, tell them to meet me after you guys finish dinner. Not sure all three of you are into computers."

"Should I look out for them too, Walt?" David asks, and then immediately regrets his choice of reference.

Mr. Bennet puts away his flask and becomes very serious for a second. "You can't call me Walt here, Daniel. I'm still your teacher."

David immediately apologizes. "I'm sorry, sir."

Mr. Bennett tells you, "I sort of became his big brother a while back, even though the age difference is pretty big. My mother was the one to mainly teach him, so I got to know him by proxy." He looks at the clock. "And you two should be on your way. I'll write you passes. This is legit school business, so don't be afraid to come to me if something unusual happens during the Witching Hour."

As he opens the door to let the new class in, David begins to hover beside you. It seems he plans to follow you wherever you go. You have one more 'preview class' before lunch, and then you can basically doze off in the obligation classes.

A portly-looking woman stands at the front of the classroom, which is outfitted with several stoves. Sofia is here, but you don't recognize anyone else. She seems a little surprised to see you here, and she's even more surprised when she sees David awkwardly wave to her.

"My name is Mrs. Teodora. Now to begin, can anyone tell me what the basic energy requirement for humans is?"

David holds up his hand, and when he's called on, he answers, "80 joules per second."

This obviously isn't what she's asking for, but she seems to take it. "In a sense. I was asking more in terms of calories."

"Two thousand calories," Sofia answers grimly, sure that David is as socially incompetent as Keith.

"That's correct," she says. "Now, I want you to split into groups of three and pick the best combination of basic food types for a correct meal, in the order vegetables, protein, fats, and carbs."

Sofia seems resigned to work with you, though David is quite eager to help. "Who is this?" the girl points at your new companion.
David shakes her hand. "David Evelake, it's nice to meet you."

Carrollo still seems a bit hesitant to trust him, and works on the opposite side of you from him. Perhaps she's picking up on what you saw earlier?

David is a bit bashful, but ultimately complies- he's interested in keeping your favor, since you've decided to tolerate him for now. You can see he's still pretty on edge, though, caught between wanting to ask lots of questions and being overwhelmed by so many other people.

>40, 30, 15, 15
Mrs. Teodora seems to be very happy that someone is knowledgeable about the basics.
"Indeed. This is the 'ideal' plate for meals. However, as with all things having to do with food, opinions differ, often greatly. Since this is the first question, you won't be docked points if you got it wrong."

[color=blue](Your Knowledge has increased moderately.)[/blue]

Soon, you're introduced to the stoves (which are not fed gas at the moment to prevent a student from causing an accident) and other equipment.
"In addition to teaching you how to eat healthy, I will also be teaching you basic scheduling, budget balancing, and increasing your skill at other 'mundane' tasks."

So I should be able to increase my Proficiency and learn how to cook things at the same time.

Soon the bell rings, and she lets you all go to lunch. As soon as you step out, David collides with an absentminded Keith. Strangely enough, despite Keith being much bigger, David takes the less of the hit, while the Toreadors' fan goes sprawling.

"Hey, watch it-" Keith shakes his head before realizing David is still standing. "Man, you have a frame like a wall, dude. You're so tiny, though."

He's right, David is a little shorter than Sofia and much shorter than Keith.
Evelake passes it off as nothing. "I've done some training, so that might be it."

That seems to encourage Allan, who gets back up in a flash. "Do you box, by any chance?"

David thinks, and eventually nods. "I have done some boxing, but nothing extensive. Why?"

Keith throws his arm over David's shoulder. "I guess I have a new training partner, then, unless Solomon wants to join up, too."

The younger boy seems very happy Allan is taking a friendly interest in him, and goes along with the diea. Sofia visibly despairs as you all make your way to lunch.

---
Hours pass, and you run through some of the basic courses. Eventually, mercy comes in the form of the final bell.
You're going to have to make your decision as to what electives you want soon- there are no takebacks after next Wednesday.

Class lets out, and you have freedom in course of action. You said you'd meet up at Sarpino's for dinner, but you could do something before you got there.

The store she leads you to, Black Cover Bookstore, is old and mostly silent. An older woman is watching the front desk, and looks up at you when the bell on the door rings.
"Bless my stars, who could it be at this hour?" the old lady sits up, and looks at Sofia. "If it isn't Miss Carrollo! How are you doing?"
Sofia walks behind the desk and hugs the old woman. "I'm doing fine, Miss Patricia. My friend and I are looking for some books to study with."

Miss Patricia turns her gaze on you, and looks you over. "Quite a tall man, this one. Didn't make them that big back in my day. Except for Matteo, of course." She refocuses herself. "Now, let's see. Guess we'll pick up where we left off. I can stick around for the rest of the night.
You pick up two of the books, one of them a heavy textbook sure to help you in your classes, and another a general book on fairy tales to help you get a better grip on possible Myths you could come across.
The wooden counter creaks under the history book's weight as you give the woman what she's owed, and she slowly rings them up on the register.
>>Current Cash: $188-$50 = $138

The old bookshop owner considers your purchase for more than just the money, however. "Hm, a textbook. Will you be staying in Crescent City for the school year?"

Sofia nods, putting down another book nearby as she looks at the cover. "Yes, why?"

Miss Patricia winks. "I've been getting so many books over the years that I haven't been able to catalogue them all for quite some time. It'll take some time, but I'm willing to pay you two if you're willing to look through and organize this dusty old shop."

There must be thousands and thousands of books in this shop. It's not incredibly large, but it's at least the size of a school library, with over a dozen shelves, some double-sided. Stairs leading up a floor suggest that the old woman lives here.
Sofia looks over the shop, which seems to lack for sweeping and general maintenance- Miss Patricia seems too old to upkeep the shop herself.

>Do you have any fiction books?

"I'm sure I do, though you'd have to find out where they are yourself," Miss Patricia sighs. "As I've said, I don't know where most of the books are anymore. People come and go, picking out and replacing the books as they like. I try to tell them, but most of them don't listen or don't care."

She seems glad to hear it. "If you would mind coming by on Wednesdays, that would be best."
>Could I also get a book or two if I come across a volume that I am intrigued by?
Miss Patricia thinks about it. "I can't let you just take the library away piece-wise, but I'll offer you a twenty percent discount if you happen to find something useful for your studies while you're here and you want to buy it. If it's old enough or cheap enough, I'll just let you have it."

Time seems to be passing, so Sofia signals to you that she's leaving, after buying an old cookbook. "Thank you, Miss Patricia."
"Come again," The older woman smiles as you leave.

As you walk towards Sarpino's, Sofia carries the cookbook in her hands and looks at the road with a distant gaze. When you ask her what's on her mind, she says, "Oh, I was just thinking about the state of the bookstore. I think Miss Patricia is right- it needs someone to keep track of it. Miss Patricia is, to put it kindly, worn out by time. So I thought if I could join you, I could earn some money and help her as well."
You cross the street and approach the corner to Sarpinio's.
"She was always there when I was a little girl, when I needed to have somewhere to play while my father was at work and Uncle couldn't cover for him. I think it's only fair that I should return the favor."

You feel concern for Miss Patricia in Sofia's words, and think you understand her a little better now. For all her judgement, she really does care about other people- in her own way. As you grab hold of the door for Sarpino's, a rush of understanding pours over you.

Greedy man, thou seek to take hold of the power to council others?
Very well... The gift of the Caregiver is yours.
Whether your comfort shall give rise to strength or weakness is to be seen...
...I will be here at the end of your path.

(You have awakened to a bond with Sofia, the Caregiver. You feel as though you will find kinship with Myths like her.)

As you hesitate, Sofia looks at you oddly. "Did the door jam again? I'll tell Uncle to fix it."

"Incredible," Sofia's uncle mutters as you walk into the comfortably casual pizza shop and see Keith and David devouring a large pizza. "Didn't you say you had dinner plans?" He looks at you and smiles from behind his eyepatch. "Oh, it's you. Welcome to my humble shop."

Sofia goes from comforting to harsh in a matter of moments. "Didn't you think to wait for us?"

"I did," Keith crams a slice's crust into his mouth. "this is the pre-dinner snack."

"Suddenly, I don't feel so hungry any more," Sofia sits down. "I'll just... I'll just have a slice of whatever Solomon's not going to eat."

You think about that strange, pen-like object you unwrapped in class, and think to bring it out. After all, there's no-one here but you four and Sofia's uncle.

You decide that here's not a good place to be interrupted, but that you should probably ask them about the packages. After ordering and making sure Sofia's uncle is out of earshot, you mention the pen and your intent to have a more extensive discussion later.

Keith puts down his slice and says, "Oh, yeah, that fancy pen thing. Sure, I got one of them, too. Think they're related to..." He fades off as the door opens, and a sweater-covered arm indicates Donna Price is entering, followed by Florez. It's uncanny how easily she can find you- maybe she is psychic.

"I knew you'd be here." She scurries over to you, sitting down across from Sofia. "I caught word about the pen in the package, and how Mr. Bennett held you after class to talk about something. And Ruth here says that this pen is 'significant to my future'."

"What do you think you're doing here?" Keith growls at her. "Buzz off, you've caused enough trouble already."

Surprisingly, Donna refuses to stand down, despite the much larger man. "No can do- I'm a reporter."

"You're a hack is what you are."

Before Donna can reply, the owner comes out again to see what's going on. "If you're going to barge into my restaurant and bother my customers, at least make an order." As a grown man with an eyepatch and a heavy accent, he can be very intimidating when he wants.

Ruth looks at the prices and options, then points to one of them. "We'll have a small Hawaiian."

Keith, who picked up his slice again, drops it halfway. "No, you're not. How dare you desecrate this table with pineapple."

Sofia and her uncle eye-roll in sync, and the pizzamaker goes back to the kitchen.

David, who has eaten three supreme pizza slices in the mean time, asks innocently, "Is there something wrong with eating pineapple on pizza? I've never had it before."

"Pineapple on pizza? Trust me, you don't want to."

"No, just pizza in general. This is my first time."

Keith puts down his slice for the third time in as many minutes, and everyone in earshot (thankfully not Sofia's uncle) stares in shock at Evelake.

"Is something wrong?" he asks.

David's increasingly guilty frown in response to your questions gives you your answer.
"I didn't know it was such a big deal, or I wouldn't have asked."

>(Steal Keith's slice)
Allan's face can only be described as broken dreams and shattered trust. He slumps back in his seat, and doesn't even react when you take his slice of pizza and eat it arm's length from his face.

Sofia looks at the floor, then meets your eyes. "Solomon, I've come to the conclusion that we're the only sane students at this increasingly unhinged academy."

"Oh, stop being so melodramatic." Donna is the first one to break out of the spellbinding nature of David's revelation. "You weren't here yesterday, Mister First-Timer. Mind explaining?"

"Well, I was taken from..." Evelake seems to have gears turning in his head, and begins a sentence several times before shaking his head and explaining. "I was moved from my old homeschooling situation to here on request- I had been placed on a wait list for Olympia, and circumstances permitted I make the classes. I wasn't here for orientation, so Mr. Bennett gave me the rundown and provided me with my uniform," he lifts his school tie to display it.

"That still doesn't explain why you've never had pizza before," Ruth bites at her thumbnail.

"I had a special diet after an accident in my childhood," he mutters. "If I've ever had pizza, I don't remember it. But I was cleared to eat anything provided at Olympia, so I assume that this isn't an issue."

"Hm. A homeschooled kid winds up on Olympia's list?" Donna still doesn't believe him entirely. "You must be something special."

"I can't really talk about that," David says apologetically. "All I know is that I'm here for the semester, or indefinitely if I adapt well enough."

Sofia looks up to see that the pizza for you two has arrived. "Thank you, Uncle."

"Of course. Enjoy," he nods. "The Hawaiian will be out here soon enough," he tells Ruth.

As you dig into dinner, Keith orders another Supreme and looks around for the slice he put down. "David, don't eat my pizza."

"I didn't," comes the frustrated reply from the shorter boy. You ignore them and enjoy the mushrooms and pepperoni.

"Oh, that old place?" Keith shrugs. "I never went there."

"Obviously," snarks Sofia.

"Books are supposed to be cheap, though, or at least cheaper than what they gouge you for these days. My dad always bought my textbooks for school there, and I never really had any trouble making up the edition difference."

"It's quite charming," Ruth says. "The lady that owns it is so sweet and kind. Too bad so few visit nowadays."

>>Ask about other places in Crescent City

"Well, you already know about the Bullfight Arena. There's the shopping district, the arcade... We're around some mom and pop stores at the moment, there's a skateboarding park, basketball courts sprinkled all around, my boxing gym, the Clover Building..."

"Owned by that corrupt tycoon Richard Clover. Total prick, old as hell." Donna chips in.

David seems to take slight offense at that. "Even if he is old, he's still a pioneer in the electronics industry. His company is over fifty years old, and his son, even in college, made breakthrough developments in artificial intelligence due to his funding and influence."

"His son also vanished from public knowledge after getting his degree because Clover was such an overbearing control freak. What I wouldn't give to have a story on him."

>>Ask about electives others saw

Ruth comments, "Apparently Mr. Bennett works a double shift as the Japanese teacher."

"He has a 'pen pal' who's definitely not his girlfriend," Donna chuckles.

Keith sighs. "Creative Writing is feelgood bullshit, don't take it."

With the chatter and presence of so many people here, you suspect the nature of Ruth's prediction will soon be made more clear.
Like before with Sofia, you feel like you've learned something profound.

Greedy man, thou seek to make use of the power of worldly experience?
The gift of the Jester was already granted to you- make what little use of it you can.
Whether the fruit of your struggles shall be freedom or oblivion is to be seen...
...I will be here at the end of your path.

(You have awakened to the path of the Jester. You feel as though you will find kinship with other Myths likewise seeking.)

After some time, you all finish eating and say goodbye to Sofia's uncle. When you leave, Sofia reimburses you five dollars for her portion of the pizza. Donna and Ruth continue to hover with your group, despite the fact that you know that you know you're going to have to speak with Mr. Bennett after dinner.

---

When you return to the school, the computer teacher is in his office, where the entrance to the Witching Hour is supposed to be. He sits up and closes his laptop.
"Ah, excellent. I was expecting you." Then he frowns at Ruth and Donna. "I was not expecting you." He looks at you and those who have awakened to their Myths, as well as David. "Who brought them?"

Mr. Bennett stares them down from behind his sunglasses, but Donna seems intent on staying.
"You're not going to leave if I tell you to, are you?" your telepathic guide reaches into the lab coat he wears everywhere, and pulls out one of the pen things he sent to you in a package. "You wanted to know about this."

Donna nods hesitantly. "Yeah. I figured if there was something sketchy going on here, the school deserved to know." She watches the small group here, as if she expected you to turn and seize her at any moment.

"Well, let's make a deal." He presses the button on the back of the pen-thing, and it lights up on the sides. He holds it perpendicular to the ground and stares at Donna. "Look directly at this. Tell me what you see when the flash goes off. If it's what I'm thinking of, I'll tell you everything."

Ruth averts her eyes, but Donna follows his instructions. There is a tiny flash, and then Ruth and Donna both shake their heads. Mr. Bennett pockets the pen and straightens up, crossing his arms, "Did you have something you wanted to ask me?"

Donna blinks before shaking her head. "Huh. No, not really."

"I remember coming back from dinner... It was on the tip of my tongue..." Ruth also seems at a loss.

"Then get a move on, this doesn't involve you." The teacher furrows his brow as the two girls leave. Then he motions for you to come inside. "Let's go."

---

Inside the Witching Hour, Mr. Bennett sets up his chair and cameras. While he's doing so, Keith asks, "Uh, what did that pen-thing do, exactly?"

Your guide fiddles with an interface and checks two cameras. "Remember how I said the original plan was to wipe your memories after we knew you were safe? That's what the pen does to anyone who doesn't have the power you do. In fact, at the correct intensity, it can even clear the memories of a Myth summoner."

"A memory-wiping machine?" Sofia is horrified. "That's awful!"

"It's neccesarry," Bennett says, as he pours out a cup of coffee. "It's only useful for clearing memories involving the Witching Hour- the machine sources its power from a special substance that only originates here, so it can only affect things 'from here'. Also, you never have to replace the batteries, because there aren't any."

"Still..." Sofia looks at her feet.

"There's no arguing it. I have something I need you all to look into, for your first 'real' mission. One particular Curse, the White Snake, has stuck around for far too long, and I want to know why." He steps into the chair. "I can give you directions and protect you from the worst with Merlin from here."

Confident in your ability, you put the firearm Durandal gave you last time you came here in a holster Bennett provides, then open the red door leading out into the entertainment center and walk from the safety of Avalon to the Witching Hour.
"Can you hear me?" Merlin carries Bennett's voice to your minds. "Please respond."

"I'm here," Sofia nods.

"Loud and clear, Teach," Keith confirms. "Do we get some sort of reward for community service or what?"

"Oh, absolutely. In fact, I've been empowered to transfer money to your school credit. Basically, there's a bounty on different Myths, and you can collect them."

Keith is elated. "For real?"

"Up to a limited ceiling at a time, but yes. Also, since they technically become physical in the Witching Hour, you can collect all sorts of random crap from these things. One time, when I was out in the field, I once collected five alarm clocks in one night. Dunno where they get them from- I guess stuff that's lost and forgotten shows up here."

David seems like he knows what he's doing, and looks upstairs into the girl's wing. "Merlin, I think I can see a Curse up there."

"It's weak, go crazy on it. I'm encouraging this fight so I can see you work as a team before anything more serious comes up."

After a short exchange of nods between you all, the four of you charge upstairs and confront a tiny, imp-like man who is knocking on all of the doors.

"Don't INTERRUPT MEEEE!" he screeches, and attacks you all.

This lists the meaning of those letters and such you see attached to skills (which I don't list extensively because that's a fuckton of work and lends itself too much to me forgetting what a skill does). In combat, generally just pick the skill you want to use, then roll 2d10 and add the modifier. I pick the most chosen result. If there's a tie, I pick the post roll (last number of a post) that's closest to the one I rolled. If there's a tie there, I pick the better roll result, and if there's STILL a tie, I roll 1d2.

Crescent City is a reference to the Brave New World RPG- it replaces Chicago after an incident in the backstory of the setting. But yes, it's also somewhat inspired by Austin, TX. The continuity of the game is different from reality, so I guess you could call Crescent City the 'Chicago of the South'. The Toreadors is a double reference to the Chicago Bulls and Austin Toros (now the Austin Spurs). Pic related.

"Yup." The young man seems proud of it.

The computer teacher begins to lecture, and you almost imagine him adjusting his glasses. "Myths, like you might expect, embody ideals and concepts in the human psyche and society. When a person or story becomes famous, they become associated with fundamental parts of the human experience. That, rather than the actual person or character, is what shows up in the Witching Hour. For example, Joshua represents faith and strength in the face of impossible odds, D'Artagnan represents a bold wanderer seeking his fortune in the service of the law. Pythia represents divine insight and council, as well as the healing power of her patron, Apollo. Faust...represents a drive to learn and experience all things."

You snicker at the tiny bell's miniature ring.

"You're not listening at all," Mr, Bennett sighs.

"Not when you make it sound like a college essay," Keith stretches his neck.

"Let's move on, then." His ego deflated, your guide directs you towards the location of the White Snake.
As you place your back to the wall and peer through the doorframe, you see the huge snake moving about inside. Your skin crawls, but you're sure the four of you can make quick work of it.

As for the inevitable question as to why I chose Ambush rather than Caution, I've mentioned earlier that in the case of a tie between votes, I choose the post number roll that's closer to the one I rolled (In this case, 1 is closer to 5 than 0 is). I removed the rolling instructions in parenthesis because you guys know how, not because you don't have to.
>>
Rolled 8, 1 + 4 = 13 (2d10 + 4)

>>1571811
Right, Sorry
>>
Rolled 3, 2, 3, 1, 2, 7, 10, 10 = 38 (8d10)

>>1571806
>>1571812
>(8, 1) + 4 = 13 +2 (Enemy Defenses down) = 15 +1 tier, Medium damage. White Snake takes 5 damage!
The voltage runs through the snake, but is not quite as effective as your last two attacks.

Sofia decides to try to use offensive tactics, and unleashes a burst of fire.
>Sofia- Hearth Burst: Fir, S, M, (+3) +2 (Enemy defense down) -3 (Enemy Affinity Revealed!)

David follows suit, and uses wind to continue to pummel the snake.
>David- Horn Cry: Wnd, S, M, (+3)

Seeing that ice is effective, Keith repeats his attack, hoping to defeat it with his next attack.
>Keith- Icy Grip: Ice, S, M, (+3, +2(Enemy defense down), +3 (Enemy is weak) Total +8)

However, assuming the snake survives and in the mood to fight, it uses its own body as a weapon and whips itself around, striking at all of you with its tail.
>White Snake- Whiplash: Blg, A, M, (+0)

(Rolling...)

Well fuck.

>Hearth Burst (3, 2) +2 = 7, -1 tier
>White Snake takes 3 damage!

>Horn Cry (3, 1) +3 = 7 +2 (enemy defense down) = 9 =0 tier
>White Snake takes 5 damage!

>Icy Grip (2, 7) +8 = 17 +2 tiers
>White Snake takes 10 damage and dies!

Right as it rears back to try and destroy you all, it freezes solid. For a second, you're not sure if it's dead or just faking, but after a few seconds, it turns to black smoke.
>White Snake is defeated!
>You found (Silver dog whistle)

Keith nearly collapses in relief, and Sofia seems to be still nervous from the near-defeat experience. Only David seems to be taking this well, congratulating Keith. "Well-timed, Allan."

"Holy shit, that was close," Mr. Bennett takes a deep breath from long range. "It reeled up for a second, and I thought I was going to have to intervene, with the power it had for that split second. Okay, well, that thing was worth $25 for each of you, but I'll double it because I expected to have to help you, and I didn't need to."

>Current Cash: $134.50 + $25x2 = $184.50

I feel stronger...
(Your HP has increased by 3 to 16!)
(Keith's HP has increased by 4 to 20!)
(Sofia's HP has increased by 2 to 12!)
(David's HP has increased by 3 to 16!)

...!

Something is happening to Captain Hook. Will you continue to allow it to happen?
>>Captain Hook is changing...
>Yes (1 vote >>1571880)
>No
It had 35 health. If you hadn't succeeded in ambushing the snake, you would have lost Sofia for the night and probably been wiped with the Bonus Round it would have gotten from the crit.
Every time I think I have everything right, I screw it up.
>>
>>1571882
>Yes

That was hardcore

>>1571880
>>1571884
The page holding Captain Hook in your book shimmers, twists, and then jumps up and re-shapes itself, revealing a huge, formidable man with a cloak of smoke surrounding his face and two coal-like eyes in his sockets.

"Heh... As long as there's plunder, boy, I'll serve you... But make sure to keep it coming. Old Teach's trigger finger gets itchy if gold or rum is low."

>Blackbeard
>Race: Ruler
>Affinities: (Prc +4)|(Fir +3)|(Tec +2)|(Wnd -3)|(Elc -2)
>Skills:
>Pirate Blast: Prc, A, M, (+4)
>Broadside: Fir, A, M, (+3)
>Strike Fear: Tec, A, Fea, TN 12 (14-2)
>Discipline: Hlg, S, Clr (Ally, one ailment from Chm, Des, Fea)

(You still have a description of Captain Hook, but will not be able to re-summon him until you re-capture him or summon him another way.)

After that interlude, things calm down, until Mr. Bennett contacts you again.
"You guys are okay to go another round, right?" he seems to be punching in buttons and mumbling curses on his end.

"What's that supposed to mean?" David asks. "Is a Curse coming this way?"

"No, but something that isn't supposed to be here is."

"Quit dancing around it and get to the point!" Keith grumbles.

"Somehow, Donna and Ruth got into the Witching Hour. I don't know how, but I'm sensing something very dangerous near their location... It's a type of Curse I haven't seen in years. I've begun to ward it off, but my powers aren't as effective long-distance. You need to get over there so I can get them out of here- suffice to say, I need better than just knowing their location to teleport them."

Upon hearing this, Sofia immediately becomes determined. "Where are they? We need to help them now!"

Mr. Bennett begins to give you all step-by-step instructions as to how to get to the new Curse's location. Things haven't even had time to wind down before they start up again...

I think we'll stop here for the weekend. I'll stick around a while for any questions.

What's the criteria for a myth to evolve?
>>
>>1571920
>What's the criteria for a myth to evolve?
Defeating a very powerful opponent, or a special negotiation/Devour situation.
For example, the Brave Little Tailor could become Jack the Giant Slayer if he, well, defeated a giant enemy, or you might get an evolution in response to a victorious boss fight. Or if you had Faust devour Puck with Hook in the party, you might get Peter Pan.

Damn, you really out a lot of thoughts into this. What about fusion? Will we have those?
>>
>>1571934
Fusion would be pick out two or more pages OR if you have the Camraderie, pick out a result and I'll tell you what you need to sacrifice.
Note that Faust cannot be fused. It's one of his special restrictions- as he was born from your desire to survive, Faust refuses to be sacrificed for any reason.

Make sense.

Igor and the Velvet Room when?

Oh, and I'm introducing a new mechanic- Transmuting.
You can transform equipment and goodies you find into Myths if they're valuable enough or relevant to the Myth. Of course, you also have a chance of getting a different item, better or worse.
>>1571959
>Spoiler
AHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAhem.
>>
>>1571963
What about the reverse? Transforming myths into items.

Sorry for wearing the same dress as you to prom with Persona USA

>>1571969
Oh, yeah. I think a wolfskin coat might be possible.
>>1571970
I'm more surprised that you managed to get so many damn readers during E3. I'll read over it and see if I can't sneak in a few references. If it matters, American Arcana takes place in 2018. I might reference the Persona games, but as indirectly as possible.
>>
>>1571978
Persona USA is in 2016. inb4 we both reuse a the same folklore for party members
>>
>>1571983
We'd better not. I'll exchange minimum-spoiler notes if you want. Then again, Hermes and Susanoo have both gotten overused.
>>
>>1571988
Twitter PMs? I just followed you
