WELCOME TO NEW WORLD EVO
In this game you will take control of a race and ,along with the other players of your race, you will develop culturally, technologically, and historically in order to progress and prosper, hoping to eventually reach the stars.

This evo begins on KLAX PRIME in the Aquarii system, a tidally locked alien world where one side is always facing the star and is in perpetual scorching day, while the other side is always facing away and in perpetual freezing night with a thin sweet spot around the vertical equator where the conditions are just right for lush life to appear. Where 3 sentient races, The Ooze, The Skitter & The Spore have appeared

Last time on New world Evo
> the Ooze began farming, discovered and attacked a human settlement, and discovered how an ancient Ooze society sacrificed themselves to defend the Aquarii system from an intergalactic threat.
>The Spore began spreading throughout the jungle enslaving everything it came across, upgrading it's minions heavily, and discovered a metal box down stream that's collecting and analyzing its spores & minions
>The skitter expanded it's colony, developed the ability to create different kinds of drones using pheromones of other creatures, and discovered an oasis with a dozen species

General rules:
>Every turn is a new day
>Every turn each race can do ONE action and ONE research per continent (The different planet sections, other planets, moons, space stations etc etc)
>Research - Laws, Technologies, Arts, Customs
>Action - Trading, Hunting, Scouting, Organizing
>Any anon can post for a race, but a majority of named players of the race must vote for it to pass it through.
> To avoid salt from other races, urns must be feasible and believable considering the situation and knowledge of the race at the time ("Done IC")
>No team Changes

Additional Rules:
>WAR actions are hard to do IC by it's very nature, but please try. I will do rolls & take into account tactics BEHIND THE SCENES, you will only see the final product. One WAR action per race per conflict
>If a turn is viewed as particularly creative or well thought out, it will be given the INNOVATIVE or PLANNED bonus. Giving +10 to it's roll or a bonus effect. Both simultaneously may be given the INGENIOUS bonus of +25 on rolls & a bonus effect. While realistic is heavily preferred, i'm prepared to sometimes slightly suspend my disbelief if the turn is good enough.

The Ooze's Gloop troop discover a group of bitter frost monkeys defending a large pile of strange black rocks at the base of the mountain.

The Ooze attempt to tame the cotton wolves with pleasing vibrations and jiggling, but the wolves feel cornered, confused and that their children are threatened, chasing away the small squad of gloop troop

Out of curiosity, the Cave Oozes begin mining through the ice to see what kind of things the humans were hoping to find

The Hive Tree is paranoid about the analysis of it's spores and decides to diversify them to make them harder for intelligent creatures to develop counters to. It can't change the structure of it's current spores and starts attempting to extract the key components from within the spore that make it work. It also keeps an eye open for slightly different spores developing to harvest & cultivate separately , keeping them close to it's chest so to stop the creatures downstream from collecting and analyzing these variants.

As interesting as the metal box and it's inhabitants are, this development shows how worryingly weak the Hive Trees forces currently are. It instructs the fertile slaves to begin reproducing to bolster zombie numbers

The queen extracts pheromones from the sandworms and infuses an egg with it creating a Cavernous spitter bug! It has the sandworm's ability to spit out extremely strong webbing that fuses digs into it's victims flesh, anchoring it to the spitter and allowing the spitter to drain it of blood and drag it in

Inspired by the cactus farm, the queen takes note of specifically what foods and chemicals help a species grow big and strong, including herself, improving diet of all her drones and allowing them to grow faster & stronger

The Ooze are in wonder of the possibilities shown to them from the ancient ooze and are inspired to live up to their ancestors.
While they don't have the materials required to build an above ground , they instead decide to build an underground version , linking to an area with the horizon in view. Using their high pressure beams, they begin to carve a tunnel down from the tip of their glacier to the east. They create a long continuous beam in the center of the tunnel out of ice nestled on top of ice cubes from the mine.

The Skitter queens decide for the good of the colony they need to expand. They decide that they will each produce more queens whenever able starting from now, unless resources dictate otherwise

The Skitter dig further and further down, with the strange noises getting louder and louder until they break through into a large underground cavern! The Spitter drone lowers itself down into the opening using its web while the other drones attempt to dig around the roof of the cavern and down the walls to it's floor. To their surprise, despite being at least 2 miles underground, the cavern is dimply lit with small glowing creatures and fungus, reflecting off the moist stalagmites and stalactites and the shallow pools of water on the floor.
The drones are cautiously and curiously searching their way through the dim dank darkness when they hear the strange noise again, this time far more crisp coming from around a bend in the cavern further up.
Quietly they creep, closer and closer to get a peek at what could be making the sounds. They peer around the corner and a large metal and glass structure built into the far cavern wall! infront of it are bipedal fleshy creatures with thin white cloth covering their abdomens faces covered in with black masks. Each fleshy creature is walks between the metal wall and groups of other fleshies congrigated under tall metal stars and doing seperate tasks with their groups. Some are carrying small glowing stars while walking back and forth between different sections of cavern, hacking away at the stalagmites making the crisp clacking sounds the drones had heard through the floor so often, while others are bent down scooping up glowing insects and samples of water, before taking them back into the metal wall. The skitter can see a little into the wall itself due to a transparent material across much of it's surface. Inside it appears to be white with many strange objects, with the fleshy creatures scurrying back and forth. Some eating, some making strange movements involving tipping their heads back unison and convulsing rythmically, with many disappearing behind walls entirely with their samples.
Who are they? What are they doing? The drones report back to the queens

For some reason half of that post didn't even come through? The gloop troop find nothing of value, & the big gloop improves his farming methods while rotating crops, instilling the soil with more and more nutrients each time, increasing yield
(Ooze's growth growth increases from +2 to +6 per turn)

The hive tree has no idea why there are uninfected in his land and infects them before continuing with more important business

It begins experimenting with attempting to create growth in different areas of it's minions, changing and distorting their shape at will in an attempt to create larger structures. None can feel pain, but many are ripped apart entirely in the process and although structures are defiantly made, they are effectively just large spore plant growths with bits of animals spread across it.

The Hivemind decides it's high time it destroyed the meddling metal box, but how? It sends its gorrillas to smash their way inside, but they just end up breaking their hand bones against the walls. The metal seems far too strong to brute force into and the hive tree backs them away before they suffer the same fate as the spider. The Hivemind sends its bot flies to scout again for a way in, and stations its forces nearby...
No matter where they look there doesn't appear to be an easy way in.

A botfly spots a white creature nearby in the jungle! Wait...don't infect...
The Hive tree has learnt from how futile it's previous attempts have been and instead lands the botfly on the back of the white creature to understand how to enter the box. When the creature gets to the box it goes to the western wall and begins punching a combination into a raised surface built into the wall that makes a small noise for each touch. The Hive Tree now knows how to enter the Metal box and can now invade at any point.

(P.S. When doing military actions, I'll give you tactics bonuses if you come up with them)

All of the forces wait back - spiders riding on the hawk, vipers and gorilla's arms as the gorilla "alone" enters the combination to open the box. Once the door opens, the gorilla will attempt to restrain the creatures inside. The vipers will advance inside as well, with all of the widow spiders scattering throughout the interior for potential ambush should the initial forces be rebuffed. No lethal force is used, the Hive Tree wants these alive, hoping that the gorilla will be distraction enough because of its size for the smaller creatures to be able to infect all but one of the fleshy creatures. One should remain uninfected and restrained, subdued.

Research: Study how to stimulate the portions of a living-infected host's memory to learn what it knows.

The Ooze gloop troop keep exploring east towards the horizon and see that the trees grow extremely thick and the ice melts away entirely, they can see the ground and finally Aquerii for the first time in the sky. They have discovered the Green Belt!

The Jiggling didn't work for the wolves, but maybe it'll work for the monkeys since they don't have a family to defend and they seem far more energetic. The bloblettes begin to jiggle and wiggle rythmically, producing soothing sounds that go with the beat of their movements. The monkeys love it and start dancing aswell, circling the bloblettes jumping up and down. They're enjoying the bloblettes presence and start to follow them, protecting them instead of the black rocks which they allow the bloblettes to collect, they look very similar to the black rocks at home. They decide it's time to head home with their spoils of rocks, fish and new friends.

Back on the glacier a medium blob realizes that despite exploring expeditions out into the world, they haven't really explored the glacier itself in great depths. He plods around looking in all the nooks and crannies. He discovers a few things about the exact layout of the glacier. Firstly, it's connected to 2 seperate large bodies, another glacier who's tip encroaches into the village from the north side and a large mountain from the south that looms over the motherpit. Behind the mother pit is a wall that has a small gap, leading to a thin ledge and an excellent view for miles west. Finally he takes interest in black boulders dotted about the camp. He creates a cavity inside him to allow him to easily carry a boulder to the mines for analysis using the spectroscope. It's Volcanic Obsidian Glass!
While he has no idea what that is, he still thinks it's cool and makes a neat pile of them at the camp.

The Hive tree attempts to reconstruct memories of its zombies. Using the spore's bioelectromagnetic organ ((Somebody suggest a name)), it stations extra spores at the host's brain's sensory regions and begins to send and receive electrical impulses, attempting to reconstruct the experiences of the hosts life. While it enjoys limited success, the nature of memories forming strongly, weakly and some not even being remembered depending on the level of significance given to them, It finds that it can only reconstruct strong and medium memories of it's host.

The Hive Tree prepares it's forces at the western wall of 1 gorrilla, 4 ribbon vipers, and 10 burrowing spiders to the box, keeping the dragon hawks high up to act as surveillance if anything goes wrong. It wants to bring back an uninfected specimens so wont use lethal force if possible.

The gorilla punches in the access code into the terminal. A green light appears and the hatch opens...
Rushing in the 2 white creatures jump to their feet, the one closest tot he entrance attempts to dodge to the side of the charging guerrilla but is swiftly launched off it's feet into the south wall by a backhand from the guerrilla, screaming in pain as he crawls scrambles into the south western corner, cowering under a shelf, holding what appears to be a broken arm. A viper positions itself in front of him, motioning to block any escape attempts.

As the geurrilla zombie burst into the room, the white creature at the far eastern end hit a large red button, starting a siren. It barely dived out of the way of the guerrilla ,which had head straight for him since the opening of the doors, and sealed itself behind a transparent door. The geurilla pounded against it, roaring and spitting infected saliva against the window. A small metal creature beeps on from under the trashed pile of equipment on the floor and hovers over to the furious geurilla, it begins charging up a blue light!
The Hive Tree signals for the guerilla to grab the metal creature and smash it against the floor to pieces, which it proceeds to do...but not before it manages to give off a brilliant flash of blue light directly into the gorillas face...

The Hive Tree cannot see through the guerrilla anymore and from the other creatures, sees that it's still alive! after finishing smashing the robot it glances around in confusion and anger, roaring, it panics at the spiders and vipers, splatting 5 spiders and ripping 1 viper in half before hurtling out of the box into the jungle!

The first white creature begins to slowly creep his unbroken arm up onto the counter and grabs a small white and black handheld device. The Viper quickly darts right up to eye level in front of it's suit, hissing and attempting to wrap his limbs up. The creature points the device at the viper and it begins to charge with the same blue light as the metal creature! The Hivemind decides to infect the white creature before it loses another minion, and the viper jabs full force at the face mask. It penetrates and punctures between the creatures eyes, unfortunately (or fortunately) killing it instantly and turning it into a zombie.

The minions cross over the wrecked room and surround the room where the last creature is held up. Banging, stabbing and spitting at the transparent material, attempting to break through to the creature. The Hive tree reasons that even though they can't break through the material, they can likely find another way in, and the creature will have to come out soon, so it isn't worried.
The Creature is breathing heavily, panicking, eyes darting, sweating under its suit, realising he's trapped and the box is lost. It removes the suit revealing a scrawny moist fleshy body and begins fiddling with some cables in the room and pulls out a particularly thick one, with a strange head. It pulls up the hair at the back of it's head revealing a metallic hole , and jacks the cable in!
The Body instantly slumps to the ground. The Hive tree has no idea what just happened but can see the body is still breathing, so it can't have killed itself...
After fiddling about with some of the equipment the minions open the room and retrieve the body. It seems both alive and dead, with normal bodily functions but also mentally dead

Research: Its time to formally organize our brethren. A third of the drones are separated and trained as Surface Scouts, and their role will be to abduct at least one surface animal into our caves every day. Another third will be given the task of determining whether each animal had been abducted before or not; if yes, then we will stockpile them into our food. The Gloop Troop collect 10 black gemberries on a bush near the jungle.

Returning to the wolf cave with offerings of fish and friendship, the bloblettes find the wolves aren't home anymore...

Armed with his new ancient ooze knowledge, wiggle butt jiggles his way back out into the wilderness to share with the Gloop troop what he's learnt. When he finds them they are enjoying shimmering, refracting and diffracting the light through their gloop.
After sharing the ancient ooze shapeshifting skills with them they are able to manipulate it to a far higher level.

The bloblette crew have the idea to attempt to take the light home like the ancient ooze kingdom, but they don't have enough gloop to concentrate beams across the planet and need to come up with a different idea.

They attempt to contain light inside their bodies but it doesn't work since they're translucient. In order to capture and transport little packets of light int heir bodies they'll need to come up with the following:

1. An atomically smooth reflective surface molded into a sphere
2. The other side of this surface needs to be as Opaque to all kinds of light as possible
3. A way for the light to get into the sphere in the first place & quickly plugged up before it gets back out
4. A way to cool this device down to extremely low temperatures ( 10 kelvin and below) to prevent the light being absorbed by the material & radiated back out

> The Monkeys arrive at ooze camp & eat some of the berries produced each day
>>
>>1563640
Don't, our goal is to stay hidden as long as possible. You should join the discord. We have perfect underground vision already, we are only harming ourselves by brightening the caves.
Organizing our guys will be done naturally, via the strains we introduce, and we won't face conflict if we don't look for it.
>>
>>1563640
Additionally, abducting too much will be a major problem, as we are not dealing with a large forest, what we have is a oasis, a fragile ecosystem. Training our drones to be warriors is a awful idea, as we can simply breed warriors. Our advantage is our massive population output, why waste time training one when we can use that time to breed 5 in the same amount of time, regarding fusing pheremone with eggs, see above. OP said in Discord we can make queens with pheremone, so killing animals and fusing the eggs with their pheremone only wastes the life of that animal.

>>1562972

Action: Take the pheremone from our Screeching Shadow and carnivorous Spitters and fuse it with the next queens

Research: After taking pheremone from the Shadowbug, we send it down to gather information on the humans, watching (or listening) where they go, if they have a routine, etc.

The Hive tree infects the brain dead host, it now has 2 zombie humans.

It attempts to extract memories from the hosts but finds it's only possible from the first human, not the one that jacked itself...interesting...

From single extraction it achieved learns the following:
1. This Human was a genetic biology expert
2. The Humans are scouting new potential worlds across the galaxy to expand to
3. They need to because their homes in the solar system, alpha centeuri, proxima centeuri and Betelgeuse are either grossly overpopulated or destroyed by war between human factions.
4. He was stationed here to study the extreme biodiversity here, and knows the entirety of how to operate the equipment in the facility
5. Took specific interest in the spore as a hindrance to human settlement, and potential biological weapon against other humans in future
6. Obtained a complete understanding of the spore biology.
7. The blue light is a small targeted EMP that disrupts and scrambles the spores ability to send and receive information, disconnecting it from the hivemind entirely.
8. The jack is for transferring consciousness to the intergalactic cloud. Human consciousness can be transferred in and out of this cloud as well as "backed up", allowing them to move between bodies as required, and transcend death if the body dies.

The Queens extract pheromones from the spitter and shadow bugs and infuse them into the next round of Queen eggs which will take 2 days to mature

The shadowbug is sent down to the caves to observe fleshy creatures. The facility has a population of a few dozen humans who seem casual and relaxed. There is also the odd metal creature scurrying about, with 1 stationed by the door . They have very little routine in terms of tasks, carrying out different ones daily although the groups seenm to remain generally the same. The only significant routine is every day they will dissappear for 4 klaxian hours, with only the metal creatures working continously. The tall metal stars are always illuminating the front of the building with light.
The bug found that inside the facility it was bright, white and clean. It has thin corridors and large communal spaces, but almost all other sections of the facility are only accessible by certain fleshies.
Lastly, although they are oblivious when concentrating on their tasks, they become very Acute to sound, and once alerted become extremely wary of all movements and sounds for extended periods of time.

The gorilla ran away into the jungle you'll need to recapture it,
What exactly do you mean by "Understand the nature of itself", do you just want the complete spore genome sequenced? unlock spore biology? idk
The Braindead host is still a functional zombie, but it's missing the original consciousness of the individual (this is pretty wishy washy since IRL we don't really know how this works), I'm viewing this as the physical brain is still functioning find, so it can be used functionally & for neuron power, but the "essence" of the person is gone, so it's memories & skills etc

Also, All minor zombie injuries heal in a day, e.g. The ribbon viper that was town in half repaired itself so it wasnt deducted from your pop count

Spore biology, how spores interact with other biological structures, so that we can effectively utilize gene sequencing and CRISPR etc. Basically, even though the Spore knows vaguely how it functions, it won't be able to make advanced changes to HOW it functions until it fully understands how that IS. At least, one presumes. The Spore wants to know everything the humans learned with their advanced understanding of biology, genetics etc.

The Ooze incorporate the monkeys into the Gloop Troop! This will make them more likely to find things when scouting

The ooze bring back the pile of frozen fish, and reckon that instead of tossing them into mother pool, it might be better to try to farm them for a more consistent food source. They need to warm up the ice and attempt to twist and turn to use friction! Unfortunately they're really slippy and cold and can't manage to melt the ice...so instead they bring along the mining lazer and melt a little pond by the glacier. The next problem is finding food that fish can eat, all they have are cucumbers, berries & pine cones, which fish don't like.

The Gloop troop discover a large mountain with obsidian surrounding it and leading up the slope to the top, they collect it and journey upwards. They discover upon reaching the top this is Mt Aagran! A long dormant volcano that, looking inside....isn't so dormant anymore, and may erupt very very soon! They retreat back to the ooze home to warn of the incoming disaster so they can prepare.

The Hive Tree is pleased with it's newly requisitioned biology and genetics station, but is displeased with losing a gorilla and sends a dragon hawk to reclaim it.Upon finding the guerrilla, it's shocked to find that it's infection doesn't seem to work on it? Scouring the Humans memories it finds that the blue light doesn't REMOVE the infection, it instead disconnects it from the hive mind, making rogue spores that will act independently and attack any new infection introduced to maintain control and spread further as SPORE are intended to do. The Hivemind finds this very troubling and hopes it hasn't spread any further already...

The Hive tree sends the enslaved humans and gorillas to the research station Tango (This naming system makes the Hive mind suspicious of possible other stations on the planet). It begins to use the tech inside to learn about it's own biology. It takes particular interest in the concept of gene editing, and proceeds to completely sequence it's own DNA, in order to be able to change any individual part of itself, it's spores & how it would function, as well as it's minions.

It takes an interest in this cloud technology of the humans, but from the limited cloud space tech knowledge of the zombies, it appears to be very very hard to digitize the spore, if not impossible, and wouldn't know where to start.

The Ooze Highway is finally finished! Gloop can now be transported at the speed of sound freely between the top of the ooze glacier and the area with the view of the horizon. The amount of ooze that can travel at 1 time is 100 ooze

The Gloop troop continues to explore the volcano for any further information they can find, they discover the following:
There are side vents of the volcano scattered nearby where there will be even more eruptions to go with the main one.
They also discover the eruption will occur in 3 days on turn 22!

At the Human Cave Large Ooze is mining a healthy supply of ice & rock when blobblettes come running to warn of the upcoming disaster.
All Ooze shake in terror and frantically begin bouncing ideas around to decide what should be done.

Giant ooze has an idea. He remembers how the humans were able to evacuate to the sky quickly and wobbles over to the human laser drill and spectroscope, remembering how they , naturally, weren't set to manual and instead would be sent instructions from elsewhere. This must be the ship above! He looks through the logs of information sent back and forth, finding the ooze information. Turns out the humans were able to extract complete ooze biology as they know it, including all of their capabilities, but by the looks of it nothing on oozian society (How could they extract that information from a single blob analysis?)
The blob keeps looking, jittering in frustration and panic he can't seem to find any way to send information back up to the Human ship....it looks like the ooze are on their own.

The spore orders for it's slaves to hunt down and kill the gorilla and spider. It CANNOT have another hivemind to compete with, yet alone one that's immune to infection. The Gorrilla's location is already known and is quickly hunted down and killed, only managing to injure 1 dragon hawk's wing that'll repair quickly. It's body is chopped up and dissolved in a pit of dense zombie acid. The spider however seems to have escaped during the attack on research station tango. It's size makes it very very difficult to track, but it's not been very long and it has small legs, so it can't have gotten far, yet alone managed to infect anything yet. There may still be a chance to stop the competition before it starts...

Meanwhile the Hivemind is extremely intrigued by this amazing human technology. It begins changing spore DNA to make more strains, which are able to infect in different ways. First it creates a strain that lies dormant and reproduces until activated. It does this by copying the marker proteins on a hosts cells allowing it to disguise itself from the hosts immune system allowing it to remain hidden until it's instructed to take over.

The skitter drones continue to dig their caverns wide and deep, making more and more room for the hordes of brothers the queens are pumping out.

The Prime Queen decides to experiment with pheromones to test the possibilities. It extracts pheromones from the 4 variant drones (Mantis, Hardy, Spitter & Shadow) and injects them all into a single drone egg!

This results in an PRISMATIC SPIDER DRONE! It is slightly larger than the other drones, while still being smaller than the queen. Its scales change color depending on the angle light shines onto it and is blind.

It's abilities are a combination of the other bugs, giving it the following:
- Increased toughness
- Increased Heat resistance
- Large Sharp Claws and pincers
- Complete invisibility
- Echolocation
- Leech webbing
- Carnivorous

The Prime Queen is amazed at this result, wondering what else is possible, and if there's a limit to how much a single drone can take.

Two of the new humans are exact genetic clones of the two originals, the other two have XX instead of XY and are a genetic mix of the two originals.

Research: Gain knowledge on the transition of physical into chemical energy. I assume that the creatures of the hive tree use the ATP as an energy carrier or maybe a different molecule that serves that same function. So the goal of this research is to come up with more efficient ways than photosynthesis to turn ADP+P to ATP, an optimal result of this research would be a biological reactor that can turn kinetic into biological energy. So we could build a watermill that generates usable biological energy for the hive, which we could use to power big organic structures.

The Ooze begin transporting stone from the mines to Mother pool in order to create sufficient shelter for the hot volcanic debris that'll rain from the sky. They initially struggle to create any kind of domed or slanted structures as they have no way to stick the stone together without it sliding apart.
Taking inspiration from ancient oozians, they carve the stone to have hooked ridges on either end to allow interlocking & create spacious, slanted stone structures covering the mother pool & their crops, angling it to allow any hot flow to pour off the side of the mountain

A fish is put in the spectroscope & it's diet is shown. It requires underwater vegetation such as pond coral, red kelp, water moss etc
Where could the ooze possibly find that?
The Gloop troop headed by, jigglebeard and wobblebutt, spread out to search for any bodies of water with vegetation and anything that might help against the volcano.
They search far and wide, all day until their gloops are sore, but find nothing. They return home worried for the future.

The Hive mind finds these humans interesting and wants more. Unfortunately it only has 2 males... It wonders what the limits of human knowledge are in the field of genetics and bio engineering and scourers the humans mind again for a possible method. To its surprise it finds what it's looking for.

Using the equipment in Research Station Tango, it extract the DNA of each male from a sample of stem cells as well as eggs from a female gorilla. It hollows out the gorilla DNA and replaces them with Human DNA, creating 2 XX eggs and 2 XY eggs. Next it puts them in accelerated incubation tubes within the facility. Hopefully this will produce 2 clones of the men and their effective daughters. All spore slaves of course.

The Hive Tree is interested in finding ways to produce more energy, preferably through movement. Looking through the human's mind it seems this isn't his field of expertise, but he has a good knowledge of the human body. While it doesn't seem to be possible to change how energy is produced in the mitochondria, the human nervous system does have a way to produce electrical currents (human's main form of energy) whenever contact is made through mechano receptors to send signals to the brain. This is done by opening ion channels allowing electrolytes to flow into and out of the nerves, effectively creating a voltage. While this only produces a small amount, perhaps there's a way to engineer a new organism that specifically produces large amounts of electricity through touch?
The Hivemind wishes it's human slave could act independently to figure this out, but will invest some time attempting to create such an abomination.

The Prime Queen extracts pheromones from the prismatic spider drone and injects them into a fertilized egg in order to produce a Prismatic Spider Queen

The Prismatic spider drone takes an egg to the human research station to observe how they react. It's navigational clicking echoes throughout the cavern and quite a few of the humans seem noticeably agitated by the echoing noise. Upon Placing the egg down, hides nearby to observe the human behavior in response to the egg.
An armed group cautiously creep around a stalagmite and spot the egg. They know this wasn't there previously and hesitate. A robot is called over to isolate the egg and take it inside for analysis while the humans tiptoe closer and closer to the source of the clicking, on high alert. The drone freezes, not wanting to give away it's position with any further noise.
A human gets extremely close, where the drone can smell it's sweat. It's mouth salivates slightly and it struggles to not take a bite out of it's leg before another human begins to speak. The drone cannot understand what they're saying and uses brief noise as an opportunity to sneak out of potential danger and keep on the eggs trail. It decides to stay relatively far from groups of humans and click sparingly to avoid giving away it's new position. Unfortunately it's lost the egg. Last it checked, it had been brought into the facility, and the group of humans had set up a new dig where the drone was almost caught. They must have assumed it was unusual geological activity.

THe hive mind sends botflies to scout directly west and east. They discover the edges of teh green belt in the distance and see how they are on a tidally locked planet with hot daytime and freezing nighttime on either side. Realizing that their little haven is all there is for them unless they adapt.

On the topic of adapting, the hivemind has a devious idea inspired by its new knowledge. It creates a strain of spore that is able to harvest segments of it's host DNA and store them into itself, allowing it to make a hosts cells produce whatever protein the DNA in question codes for.
In short, it's a strain that can transfer features from hosts it's been in, to new hosts it infects.

Action: The Hive tree starts to grow a protective shell around it (using it`s researched plant architecture) that in addition offers space to store inactive minions. For stability and security the outside is mostly out of hard, wood like material, whose cells also have enough chloroplasts to keep the entire structure alive. The building is round with a diameter of roughly 15meters wit parts of it being in the water of the river that it absorbs for photosynthesis. The inside is largely hollow, to house minions and to have room to add other structures in the future. Flexible parts like "doors" are made out of plant "muscle" tissue, similar to the moving tissue in meat eating plants.

Research: the hive tree is not content with using the wombs of it`s minions to reproduce them and is trying to figure out ways to grow it`s own wombs/breeding pots to produce more minions and have more control of their genetic makeup. This also includes trying to find out how to maybe grow a breeding pool to mass produce botflies and possibly other insects in the future.

Yes, But I don't see why you'd have more control over it's genetic makeup. Everything else is fine though

Just need skitter turn
>>
>>1590856
The wombs of our minions aren`t specifically designed to genetically engineer the offspring, just to create them.
Also there is only so much you can breed in womb, we couldn`t grow an elephant for example (even if we had the DNA) because none of our female minions is big enough.
So I guess what I´m saying is not so much more genetic control but instead more possibility, because we could create breeding pots that fit our specific needs and breed creatures or structures that our minions wouldn`t be able to birth.
