Alright, because the other one was in sage, this is the new thread for our great scouting into Davenport.

You are Xavier Lewis, a doctor turned soldier that had escaped the undead city of Chicago with his lifelong friend Peyton, and his new Biker friend Andrew. Together, they had looted some stores, "found a gas tanker" and arrived at their new sanctuary, which was a small town by the name of Stronghurst, Illinois. It was ruled by a religious fanatic named Abraham, that had you go into the destroyed town of Burlington to get some books, and blow up a horde in front of a Highschool where you found medicine, a new doctor, and a beautiful helicopter.

That night, you had poisoned the old leader, Abraham, as you had thought his religious ideas were dangerous, and installed General Tristus, a brilliant man with big ideas for this brave new world. Now, you are the General's right hand man, and there is much to do. You are now preparing to head to Davenport to see what became of the Army Base there.

[1 week after the Final Day]

It’s a little funny, because you never imagined yourself as some kind of badass. You were a pretty good student, played on the Baseball team as a hitter, went to prom, but you were always just a little above average. Everytime you go outside and you look around, you see scared people, gently sobbing, some praying, others just completely strung out from a lack of sleep. You? Lately you’ve been sleeping better than you ever have. Now you wouldn’t call yourself a psychopath or anything of the sort, more of an opportunist. You are now the right hand to a man who may be leading Humanity’s last hope for civilization, and that’s not something you would have dreamed of a month ago working in that shitty clinic.

Once again, it’s another beautiful day, and you wake with the beautiful smell of cooking meat drifting through the open windows. You quickly wash yourself with cold water from a wash bin that Andrew brought in. The General is looking into getting heated communal showers, but for now, it’s the fucking 1600’s way. You strap on your slightly dirtied boots, put on your flannel shirt, and carry your tactical vest and ballistic vest out to where breakfast is being made for the people being sent on scouting missions today.

You walk over to the benches and plop your ass down on the dewed seats, and begin to dig into the meal that has been placed there for you. It’s two scrambled eggs, 4 pieces of bacon, a biscuit, and a nice and surprisingly cool glass of milk. All in all, if you were to die today, at least your last meal would be nice. You finish off your meal, and leave to join the gathering crowd of people forming around a certain tired looking General.

“I won’t tell you how dangerous this will be, as you probably know already, but you are integral to the survival of this town. I won’t bore you with some fucking speech before you risk your lives, so I gave you a fantastic breakfast, and I wish you all luck.” The General finishes his short speech, and patts the backs of a few of the more worried looking men. He sees you and gives you a slight smile, all the confirmation you need.

It takes a few minutes, but you gather up the men that are going to be with you for however long it takes. There is Blake, a young man from Davenport himself before he moved a few years ago, Miller, your trainer, there is Jacob, a middle aged farmer, John, a plumber from Stronghurst, and Harry, he came from britain and was some regional manager for a tractor supply store.

There can be two in each truck, so who is going to be your road buddy?

>Miller, he could share his war stories
>Blake, he could tell you about Davenport
>Jacob, he could probably tell you all there is about farming
>John, he could tell you all about the wonderful world of plumbing
>Harry, maybe he could teach you a thing or two about tractors

>Alright Miller, you’re with me. You can tell me all about how you became so good with a blade.

“Aye aye captain. Alright everybody, take your gear and get to the vehicle depot. We’ll be the lead truck, and everyone else try not to get fucked or eaten.” Miller tells the rest of the group, with a tone similar to what you imagine a marine would use.

The rest of your group scrambles to find their armor and make their way over to the Vehicle Depot. Miller goes to grab his pack and slings it over his shoulder, while he puts his rifle over his other shoulder. Jesus, he must be carrying at least 80 pounds of equipment on his person. Miller walks over to you, looking for a conversation on the way to get the trucks.

“Well, I am going to save my bayonet stories for the road trip, so you can oblige me by explaining why you became a doctor.” Miller “kinda” asks, while huffing and puffing under all his equipment.

>I don’t know really, I was obsessed with the human body, so I became a doctor instead of a serial killer
>The money. Funny enough though, I ended up making less than a ditch digger.
>I originally wanted to be a combat medic, but the amount of gunshots I treated might as well make me one

Got no idea why nobody is in here R :( ill try to keep the thread on page 1 so people will see it.
>>
So what kind of skill proficiency can Miller teach us? Hand to hand? Melee? Marksmanship? He seems pretty competent
>>
>>1557381
Well he is strangely competent in bayonets, as he will tell you later, but he has marine marksman training, which depending on who you ask, is some of the best in the world. Spend enough time around him and you'll pick up general skills that the marines would teach him
>>
>>1557402
Awesome. Could he become a regular fixture to our squad similar to Andrew and Peyton? Cause then we would have 2 Competent fighters and 2 geeks for support.
>>
>>1557535
You would probably have to talk to the General about having him permanently added to your own entourage, but if Miller wants to, then sure.

“Well I don’t know what answer I was expecting, but I’m glad you managed to land your dream job. I mean hell, you’re going to have plenty of chances to heal up bullet wounds if you stop going on adventures with us, but I suppose having a medic on hand when we do this shit couldn’t hurt.” Miller says, as he climbs into the driver’s seat of the lead truck, while you throw your pack in the back next to Miller’s and get in the passengers.

He talks into a radio he has in the truck, and gets confirmation from the other two truck. It seems that this mission is finally getting underway.

“So, I guess I owe you an explanation about my bayonet skills. Well, I went to boot camp just like every other fucking grunt, and I had my training, but for some reason, when we got the the week where we practice hand to hand and bayoneting, I just couldn’t grasp the latter. My DI then pulled me out one morning, and had me train with a bayonet tied to a branch, for a good 19 hours. At the end of the day, I couldn’t move and had to be carried by my platoon members back to the bunks. After that, when I was in Afghanistan, I probably killed 5 or 6 of those fuckers with my Knife. I don’t really know what amazing story you were expecting, but there it was.” Miller finishes, as he waves his hands like he got finished with some fucking mind blowing magic trick.

The next 3 hours consist of clearing off the roadways of cars where you can, and killing any infected that might interrupt the process. So far, you are about ¼ the way to Davenport, but the car pileups are just getting thicker. The three cars take a stop near a rest stop for travelers. There are a few cars parked in the parking lot, but more noticeably, is a military Humvee.

“Hey man, that’s military issue, not some pussy NatGuard truck. That means that there could be some soldiers in the main building. We should see if someone is alive in there.” Miller explains, as he starts walking towards the building

>No, this is too fishy. Lets just get in our trucks and get the fuck out of here
>Sure, there might be some soldiers in there that the General could use.

>Alright Miller, you take three guys and go around the building, I want to make sure that there aren’t any assholes lurking around the premise, undead or otherwise.

Miller gives you a silent nod while taking the farmer, plumber and Harry in a wide circle of the rest stop, moving to it's back. You have your other two men take up what seems to you to be defensive positions, all three guns pointing for the main entrance of the rest stop while using the parked cars there for cover. You hold that position for two minutes before you hear shouting and an explosion from the back. As you get your two men ready to go around back to help Miller and friends, five men all armed with M16’s come bursting out the main doors and start running towards you. They are wearing what seems to be a mix of fatigues and civilian clothes, and they seemingly do not notice you yet.

>Alright you two, on my mark we are going to flag these people down and tell them to put down their weapons. If they resist or raise them to you, put them down, but be careful, because I have no fucking idea what they are running from.

Your two men give you a slight nod before preparing themselves to pop out of their cover. You readjust your grip on your rifle, and as they cross the halfway mark between you and the building, you raise your rifle and stand up, heroically.

>PUT YOUR FUCKING GUNS DOWN OR I WILL PUT YOU DOWN!

The men running stop for just a few seconds and look at you and have a mix of fear and realization on their faces. They turn themselves around and drop to a crouch stance before shouldering their rifles at the rest stop main doors. The last man however, throws his weapon down and sprints off to the left, as he peels pieces of his clothing off as he runs.

You and your “soldiers” are confused for a moment, before you realize what these men were running from, and why they suddenly turned on a dime and got into a firing line.

A shambling group of 25-30 infected have come out from the main building of the rest stop. The only reason you managed to take out that group at the hospital was because you had thirty other men and you had blown up more than half the horde. There is a good 300 feet between your trucks and the infected, but their shambling is steady.

As the 4 men in front of you start firing into the undead, Miller and his two men come sprinting around the corner and towards you.

“GET IN THE FUCKING TRUCKS! WE GOTTA GET THE FUCK OUT OF HERE!” Miller screams at you as he hauls ass towards you. A few seconds later and it isn’t hard to see why, as he has another 15-20 infected behind him.

>Hold your ground. A shot to the head will take these things out and then you can see what you can find in this rest stop

Rolled 1 (1d2)

Well Xavier, it’s time to play Audie Murphy and whoop some infected ass.

>WE ARE STANDING OUR GROUND HERE! TAKE UP FIRING POSITIONS!

You move out from behind the truck and you sprint towards the 4 unknown men firing into the merged group of infected, probably numbering 45 or around there. Everyone is firing into the horde now, some scoring headshots, some not. It seems that each infected equals around 4 bullets expended. By this rate, you won’t have enough ammo to safely be okay when you get to Davenport.

You take a second to really take in your surroundings. You are at the portion of the parking lot where the walkway meets the parking lot, and the vehicles you see are the three trucks you guys came in at the back of the parking lot, that military humvee with what you now see as a large gun on the top, there are also a mix of sedans, a sports car, a few other trucks, and a minivan parked in the parking lot

The other 9 men are all clumped together as a firing line shooting into the crowd. They are slowly stepping back as the horde convenes on them. As things stand, you count that their ammo is going to hold, but you are going to be severely lacking in that department in the future.

>Plan of action?

>Someone who knows how to use an MG get on the one in the jeep over there. Everyone else, continue with that slow backpedal, and make some room, because I’m coming in dry!

You shout orders to your team and one of the unknown soldiers stops firing and runs over to the humvee, and crawls into the turret. You have a more important job to do, ramming a truck into a crowd of about 35 people. Why? Because that’s probably what Audie Murphy would have done.

You run over to what you think is a RAM 2500, a huge fucking truck. If you got enough speed, this could probably plow through a crowd. Afterwards, however, that’s a different story. You throw your AR on the ground and take your P90 over to the Ram. You don’t know what god was looking down on you that day, but not only was the door unlocked, the keys were on the dashboard. You suppose it could be a getaway vehicle for the soldiers if something happened, but you’re just thankful everything is going to plan right now.

You start up the truck and drive it to the far end of the parking lot, opposite of the horde. You start revving the engine, getting ready to explode out, like a sprinter ready to run. The .50 on the Humvee starts opening on the horde, and it is extremely effective. It doesn’t hurt that whoever was the quartermaster gave these boys some incendiary .50 rounds for the jeep, so the infected start lighting up like it was some 4th of July spectacle, probably because of all the oily substances and grease on the skin and clothing.

While the MG did work, it wasn’t fully loaded, and in just about twenty seconds, the gun went dry, leaving 20 or so infected left bearing down on the humans. You put on your seatbelt and floor the truck. It speeds towards the slow shambling horde as the speedometer passes 40, then 50, then 60, and then a crash and darkness.

The next thing you can remember is being peeling your bloody face away from the airbag and taking a look around the ruined truck. The front of the truck is clouded in smoke from the engine, but it appears you hit a wall but didn’t quite break through. Your P90 is nowhere to be found and there are infected all around the truck trying to get in. Every window in the truck is broken in some capacity and the infected are groping their way in. You’ve already had to shake a few rotten hands off of you, but if you stay in the truck any longer, there is a chance the infected will get in.

>Plan of action?
(I would have given you guys options, but that 29 really hurt you guys. Remember to think about your environment and the characteristics of the RAM)

First of all, you need to find your gun. You look around the front of the cab, but can’t find it. You think that it’s in the back behind the seats, but as you go to unbuckle yourself, the button is jammed and you’re stuck. You go for your knife, and thankfully that is something that you didn’t forget to bring with you. You cut the seatbelt away from you and carefully maneuver yourself into the backseat to look for your gun. You find it slightly under the driver’s seat and pick it up, and while it might be a little dinged up, it is still a beautiful weapon.

As you actually take the time to look around, you realize that there are probably 10 or so infected clamoring to get into your truck. The majority of them are at the side doors, while some are trying to crawl up on the hood of the truck. There are none near the the back, and on the sides of the bed of the truck are no infected at all, but they move to where you move, so if you attempt to escape, they’ll slowly but steadily follow you.

You don’t know whether the truck is going to blow up, or if the fucking infected will get in first, but you know you need to get the hell out. You break out the rest of the back window and use your coat to safely climb through the back window. Everything is going pretty well until you actually stand up in the bed of the truck.

You get very lightheaded and then everything goes black. You regain consciousness just a few seconds later, but it’s already too late. You are on the ground beside the truck and your infected friends are shambling towards your body. The 15 or so infected will be on you in just a few seconds.

You thought you were lucky when you got into this truck with no hassle, but this must be some sort of Karma payback for something you’ve done in the past. Maybe this is god’s revenge for killing his messenger and instilling a dictator with seemingly delusions of grandeur. Whatever is happening right now, it’s a sick fuckign joke.

You grab your P90 from the ground right next to you and try to get to your feet. You sway a little bit as you fire wildly into the crowd of infected that are right on your ass. You don’t really know if it was a grenade, the truck finally exploding, or a stray bullet somehow hitting the right spot, but an explosion burst out from the crashed truck sending you flying about twenty yards, and your P90 somewhere off into a field.

The explosion does the same for the infected. Scattering them all over the field. Some are still alive, writhing, while others have suffered enough damage, shutting their brain off. Your brain, on the other hand, is not dead, because it is receiving pain from all over your body, either from the landing, or the shrapnel that has pierced your body. You feebly try to raise yourself off the ground, but then see why no one has come to your aid. There are a few infected coming out of the cornfield, but a much larger group of infected are coming down the road from the direction of Davenport. There must be thousands of infected in the horde, and they look to be just under a mile away from the rest stop. That’s probably why Miller is getting everyone into their trucks, ready to get the fuck out of there.

Everything goes black for you, and you can only assume you’re being carried by two men, as your eyes won’t open, but every portion of your body definitely feels you being dragged, then put in the back of a truck, and then you must have passed out.

What a clusterfuck of a day. Someone is going to have your balls in a vice grip in the near future, that is, if you survive this situation.

That is all for this thread. Sorry guys, but my week is looking incredibly full so it’s probably good that this cliff hanger happened, or else I would be forced to write more. I’ll probably run next Sunday, and then I’ll have my regular schedule I’ll run for the next few months.
