your village's a medium sized sedentary community, lead by a chieftan, practicing agriculture and husbandry but still very reliant on hunting.

It seems like everything's going its usual course, many are out tilling the fields, tending to the animals and so forth.

Only strange thing is, the hunting party that was set to come back yesterday hasn't yet returned.

"Danger is afoot! The handed wolf of a thousand teeth is coming!"

you burst into the chieftan's hall.

Alright, the chief trusts your interpretation of the vision, and heeds your advice: The capable men that aren't lost on the hunt will be sent out and take down what must be some sort of terrifying monster. Minus those who will have to stay behind on guard, and of course those missing in action, you have a brave group of half a dozen warriors.

Someone, the chieftan says, will have to stay back here, with one of the hall guards, and look after the women and children, and someone will have to lead the expedition. He'll do one, and you'll do one.

do you want to

>go hunting strange monsters

or

>stay put and guard the defenseless

?
>>
stay and defend, we are not warriors. and I doubt we have an apprentice to pick up what we left off

We are the damn religious leader of our tribe, it is our duty to protect and represent our people of blood. We should hunt it by our own accord, and challenge it. We are part of all things, but this spirit is special and we must elevate and become another to dispell its hold on our destiny.

but I think in future highest roll option would be good.

The day passes uneventfully, the work in the fields is done, and neither monster nor hunters are to be seen in the evening. Everything so far seems well, and the women and children are back safely behind the village walls.

you are woken in the middle of the night by Neda.

Ibto seems bruised and dirty, but not hurt. He hangs his head, clearly ashamed of himself.

"The wolf is no wolf." he says.

"And the teeth, though thousandfold, and sharp indeed, are not teeth."

The group had been perching through the forest when they had heard the chatter of a great many men. They had snuk up to its origin, and seen, marching through the woods, rows and rows of man with ashen skin, and crooked spears and large planks of leather covered wood on their sides, and gold stuck in their faces.

Ibto had been mortified.

When then suddenly a rabbit had darted into the crowd, and brought a commotion to it, he had felt compelled to use this moment to turn and run, to the village to warn his family.

"I left the others." he cries. "I do not know what came of them."

A few questions then:
- How many people do we have?
- How many of them warriors?
- What are our fortifications?
- What season it is? Has the harvest ended?
- What of our food stores?
- Do we have a well inside the village?
>>
>>1562856
-the tribe before this insident was like 14 men of age, 16 women of age, a hand full old people and a dozen or so children. All men you could see as warriors, though six of them (including the chieftan) are still out hunting the 'wolf' and four are the missing hunting party.

-Your fortifications are comparatively excellent, high and thick clay walls with wooden scaffolding, you can see it here >>1554891

-it's autumn, and although harvests happen all year round with different small crops, you've stocked your coffers over the last weeks, although there remains fruit on the fields.

-food stores are well stocked as above, and you've got a bunch of goats inside the walls. Generally, hunting is a big food source for you though, and without it, problems may arise.

-you have a well.

I might be away for a bit again, dunno yet
>>
>>1562868
Since we have so few people, there must be other tribes nearby with which we intermarry. How far are they and how many people do they have?
>>
>>1562871
similarely sized, a few days away.

I'll be off cooking now, you'll get a map later
>>
>>1562875
The spirits were clear. These men aren't here to be our friends. We're too few even together with the neighbouring tribes to fight them. We need to run.

-Attempt to contact the shamans of our neighbours through dreams (it is the middle of the night after all) and warn them.
-Conduct a divination on where to run away.
-Let Ibto rest. But if the rest won't return by morning, we'll have to do something.
>>
>>1562852
Lets not leave our ancestors lands so easily.

>warn nearby villages
>sent two man to see where these new comers are heading

Lets not panic before we know they are coming to us

You drink a concoction of ground root and herbs before you fall back asleep, and enter the dreamscape.

Naked and bound, you meet again the spirit that came to your aid before, dragging after it four tails, and with one bloody stump.

Not far behind, the wolf is gnawing on the fifth, longest tail of the rabbit.

You want to cry out, but A'un keeps you from it, as he whispers into your ear in the language of the dead.

>tell A'un what he should tell a shaman in his dream.
>Choose the shaman of one of the villages to give that message

What to do next guys? We barely have any warriors left, but we need to know what happened to chieftain's party and where the hostile group is heading.

We look like we're well defended here, and anywhere else we go if likely to be more dangerous, let alone a long, slow journey leaving us more vulnerable.

Divination has been effective so far, perhaps the spirits could give us some insight into the whereabouts of the chieftain's party?
