Your eyes open to a figure standing over you. As your vision comes into focus, you make out green skin, pointy ears, and a set of antennae. And, of course, a scowl. Piccolo doesn't usually smile where you're concerned, unless you're in pain.

"Welcome back," the green man grumbles as you slowly rise into a sitting position.

As you become a bit more aware, you're able to see that he's no longer wearing his cape, and that he has a few scorches on his body. Otherwise, he seems unharmed, and from what you can sense of his energy, he hasn't lost enough energy to keep him from fighting.

Lapis looks largely the same, though you notice a smirk on his face, telling you that he's quite pleased with the apparent victory he and Piccolo achieved while facing Neiz.

"If you're done napping, why don't you tell us who those guys were?" Piccolo asks as you pick yourself up.

"Doesn't matter now, does it?" Lapis asks. "They're gone."

"Yeah, but their boss is still around," you tell the young man before looking to Piccolo. "They called themselves Cooler's Armored Squadron."

"Cooler's?" Piccolo asks. "So they aren't Freeza's people out for revenge."

"It doesn't look like it," you tell him. "But one of them mentioned a Lord Cooler."

"I've never heard that name before," Piccolo tells you. "But if his men were that strong, he's sure to be dangerous."

"Do any of you know where Goku and the others are?" you ask.

"Not a clue," Piccolo answers. "We felt his power vanish and yours dropping, so we came to see what was going on."

Well, that leaves one person for you to try and contact.

"King Kai?" you call out.

"Yeah, what's up, Tofoo?" you hear the deity's voice ask in return.

There's a delay in his response. "Wha-hold on a second, I'll check."

After a few moments of silence, you hear his voice again.

"They're all alive, but Goku and Krillin's kids seem hurt, and so does Goku," he explains. "What's going on down there?"

"We were attacked by some people that called themselves Cooler's Armored Squadron," you explain. "Their boss looks similar to Freeza."

"Cooler..." King Kai repeats, seeming to be trying to think of something. "And you say he looks just like....hang on...."

Again, there's silence.

Piccolo crosses his arms and frowns while he waits for you to offer information. Lapis stands back and watches with boredom as you wait for King Kai's response.

"He does look just like Freeza," King Kai tells you. "And that name sounds familiar, but I can't think of who it could be. Someone like that would surely make himself noticed if he lived in the Northern Quadrant, but I- wait, I have seen him before. When Freeza destroyed Planet Vegeta, this Cooler guy wasn't very far away."

The connection between the two of you begins to fade.

"Wait!" you shout to the Kai. "Can you tell me where Goku is?"

"He's hiding in a cave," the Kai explains. "He seems to be unconscious."

Wonderful.

"Lapis, Piccolo, can you keep this Cooler guy busy for a bit while I run to Korin's and grab some beans?" you ask as your connection with King Kai breaks.

"It's a little late for that," Lapis tells you, looking into the air behind you.

Your blood runs cold, and you turn to find the Freeza-like alien hovering in the sky above what remains of the forest, frowning down at you and the other two warriors.

"This is unexpected," he confesses as he looks toward the remains of Salza. "I hadn't expected anybody on this planet to be capable of defeating my men. I certainly didn't expect they'd fall to anybody other than the Saiyan who killed Freeza."

"We're just full of surprises," Piccolo growls, dropping into a combat stance.

The alien smirks. "So it seems. I'll have to be careful with you, now won't I?"

He raises his left hand and points toward Piccolo, unleashing a thin beam of light that shoots down toward the Namekian.

Piccolo leaps back, avoiding the attack altogether, and letting it harmlessly strike the ground.

The alien doesn't make any further aggressive moves, though you notice his eyes shifting between the three of you, as if deciding who he should kill first. In all likelihood, he's doing precisely that.

"Brother?" Piccolo gasps.

"His older brother, to be specific," Cooler explains. "This quadrant of the universe was under his control, so I'm not surprised you haven't heard of me. I hadn't heard of this world until the news of my brother's death reached me."

"And how did you find out who killed your brother?" you ask.

"The news spread fast," he explains. "My father no doubt traveled to Namek in search of Freeza's remains, but I came here to bring my revenge on the one who struck against my family."

"A warrior from a far away world," you tell Cooler, subconsciously making sure your stance is as strong as possible. "His name doesn't matter."

Cooler's eyes widen with anger, and he bares his teeth as he moves to the ground with blinding speed, then quickly closes the distance between the two of you, pulling back his right arm and clenching his hand into a fist.

"I'll beat the name out of you!" he declares, throwing the punch.

He's clearly not expecting much from you. It's very easy to tell that he's holding back with his attack, and you intend to make him regret underestimating you. As he makes his move, you raise your left hand and catch his fist.

Cooler's eyes widen in surprise, and he doesn't get the chance to react before you give him a palm-strike to the jaw that sends him staggering back. Growling, he points with his right hand and fires a thin ray of light that you quickly knock aside.

He comes charging again, but at the last moment spins his body and swipes at you with his tail. Reaching out, you grab it with both hands and spin, throwing Freeza's brother into the air.

You turn and look up, finding Cooler smirking down at you.

"Well, now things are getting interesting," he comments. "You've got some real fight left in you after all. It looks like I won't have to hold back nearly as much as I'd expected."

"Bring it," you tell him. "I'm stronger than your brother."

"That makes two of us," Cooler replies as he prepares to strike again.

"KUMA-KEN!" you shout, feeling your power rapidly increase as you become surrounded by a green aura.

"So, you were hiding more power," Cooler observes. "Let's put it to the test, shall we?"

You drop into a defensive stance and wait for Cooler to make his move.

Freeza's brother vanishes from sight, and you spin around to find him standing behind you. He quickly throws a punch, but you spin your body to avoid it, only for him to throw up a knee at your gut. You manage to block it just in time with your hands, and push away, propelling yourself into the air.

Cooler gives chase, attacking viciously with powerful blows that push your defenses to their limits. You struggle to keep up with his speed and power as you block and parry each attack he throws your way. He them flips, bringing his tail town to strike the top of your head. You quickly move to the side, but as he turns right-side-up, he holds a hand out toward your face.

You bring a hand up as he fires a ball of light, stopping it before it can hit its target. At that moment, however, Cooler strikes with his knee again, bringing it up into your gut and causing you to hunch over. His fists come down on your back, sending you speeding toward the ground below. You land in a crouch, and the force of impact causes the ground to crack.

Rising to your feet and looking up, you see Cooler speeding down toward you. Moving quickly, you're able to evade his next attack, and he ends up punching only the ground, though the force causes chunks of the already damaged Earth to explode upward, and with a burst of energy, Cooler sends many of those chunks flying at you. You bring your arms up to block them, and they shatter against your arms.

Cooler looks toward you, firing beam of light from his eyes that crash against your arms. Gritting your teeth, you push against them, and are able to break the beams as you spread your arms away from your body.

Cooler strikes, his foot slamming into your chest and beginning to push you back, but you grab hold of his ankle and roughly push it upward, throwing him off balance and giving you the chance to strike.

Leaping, you do a flip and bring your foot crashing down into his stomach, slamming him against the ground. As you land, his tail wraps around your leg and pulls you off your feet. He picks himself off the ground, and swings before unwrapping his tail, sending you spinning through the sky. He raises his right hand and fires a barrage of beams from his pointer finger, but you swat each one aside each time you spin around. Cooler gives chase and quickly catches up, but when he strikes, he punches through an afterimage, and you appear behind him, catching him in a suplex hold.

Flipping upside down, you speed toward the ground below, releasing your hold on the alien at the last moment, and letting him impact like a meteor, creating a great pit in the ground, and causing the forest around the clearing to tremble. A massive cloud of dust is sent into the air, but you can sense that Cooler's still down there.

Catching your breath, you watch the cloud as it begins to blow away, revealing a rather dirty-looking Cooler, who drops into an aggressive stance and prepares to reengage.

Damn, it doesn't seem like you've done all that much damage, and you aren't sure how long you can keep this up.

Cooler knows that you aren't just some weakling. He's bound to attack you with a great deal of power, and any restraint he may have shown before is sure to be gone.

Holding your right arm out to the side, you focus your energy, forming a blade of light around and extending from your arm.

Recognition shines in Cooler's eyes, as he no doubt recognizes that attack from Salza. Nonetheless, he takes off from the ground and charges you at full speed.

Without hesitation, you rush down to meet him.

The two of you collide with incredible force, flattening many of the still-standing trees with the resulting shockwaves. Then, you begin to attack one-another.

Cooler moves out of the way of your first downward slash, so you turn and slash horizontally toward his throat, causing him to back up. Before you can continue your attack, his tail comes and wraps around your upper arm, pulling you off balance and giving him an opening to strike.

He raises his right hand toward your chest, gathering energy for a powerful attack that's no-doubt meant to end your life. Knowing that you're as good as finished if the attack hits, you channel some of your remaining energy into your left arm, creating another blade that cuts into his side as it materializes.

Cooler cries out in pained surprise, recoiling and releasing your right arm as he falls back. You quickly follow, swinging with both blades at your fleeing foe. He manages to dodge at first, but soon your blades get closer and closer, and small cuts are made across his body, and soon, larger gashes.

Finally, as he spins to avoid a stab from your left blade, you bring up the right and slice through his tail, severing it from his body and letting it fall to the ground below as Cooler howls in pain.

Roaring with fury, he fires a massive wave of energy, but by making use of the Afterimage Technique, you move behind him and kick him in the back of the head, sending him crashing to the ground below.

He slides through the dirt, and you land a short distance away.

It's time to end this. No speeches, no showing off. You need to kill this guy, now.

And so, you rush toward Cooler, raising your blades high, and preparing to strike him down, only for the alien to spin around and fire a blast of energy at your chest, pushing you back as he climbs to his feet.

"You damned wretch!" Cooler spits. "You think you've won?! You are nothing compared to the true power I possess! Count yourself lucky, you will be the first to witness this! Yes, first you will see, then you will-argh!"

An electric Light Shot strikes him at that moment, distracting him from whatever he was about to do, and giving you the chance to charge in.

"WAIT, NO!" Cooler shouts.

Too late. Your blades slice through his body, cutting him into three pieces that fall to the ground. Blood gushes from the upper portion of his body, and he looks down at the damage in pure horror.

You raise your blades again.

Cooler looks up at you, and lets out one final scream before you finish him off, slicing him into little pieces, and incinerating them all.

It's over, he's dead.

You don't sense that, but you do sense Krillin flying this way, and he seems to be coming from the general direction of Korin Tower.

You smile.

Wait, you sense movement from the nearby forest, and when you turn, you see Bulma and Oolong emerge from behind the trees.

As your wife and old friend run toward you, your smile widens. The Earth survives another day.

Still, in two years, an enemy even more terrible than Cooler will appear. You need to make sure that you're ready.

But as your wife throws herself into your arms, and the two of you share a kiss, negative thoughts of the future vanish, and you count yourself blessed that you have today.
