>Welcome and thanks for joining in!, this is story-driven quest that could be described as a "Medieval Cold War" scenario, in which you take the role of Rob Corwin, Lord of the City of Westfall, and recently named Duke of Bryl.
>The kingdoms are at the verge of an unification war, and your king has just died, leaving his only male son and heir, a 12 years old boy, as the new king, spies are plotting to kill him, so Regent Queen Eleanor sent the your king to you in order to keep him concealed and away from spies, your actions will weight heavily on the welfare of the kingdom.
>Some crucial decisions will require 1d100 rolls, 0-15 beign critical failure, 16-45 failure, 46-59 mostly no effect, 60-89 success and 90-100 mayor success, we're using a "Best of two" rolling system.
>There'll be a little bit of civ-like administration of your holdings, making you able to increase income and power, but it'll be a minor thing, this is mostly story-driven.
>It's highly recommended to read the pastebin about notable characters and the brief story of the kingdoms.
>I'm not a native english speaker, thus you may encounter several grammatical errors, be advised.
>I used to be QM of "council" quests using hexographer, If you enjoyed them, you'll enjoy this one.
>MAP of the kingdoms: https://ibb.co/nhpN8F

>Pic related to some relevant information summary If you're new and want to join, I'll really advice you to read atleast the first posts of the first theard.

It's been a year since Queen Eleanor excecuted Gilbert, the traitor, and granted you the Dukedom of Bryl, the situation of the Kingdom remains the same, the northern borders are being reinforced and fortificated by both Bossia and Gossia.
You recieved a letter from your brother, which is sixteen years old now, requisting to stay for another season in Highrock fort, besides your uncle.

>Let him.
>Bring him back to the court.

You decided to send your Marshall to the eastern Fortress, in order to keep Sigmund away from your court.
You find yourself heading to the council meeting, it's time to disucuss another yearly project, what would you choose?:

>Recruitment campaign. (+800 footmen, +400 archers, +200 light cavalry)
>Increase the quality of our troops' equipment. (All "light" troops upgraded.)
>Establish a new espionage network. (In which city?)
>Invest in an Infraestructure project, better roads, mills, and farming tools for our people. (Increases properity, increasing loyalty of the people and decreasing posible food shortages).
>Invest in an Alchemy collage, funding it's research.
>>
Aaaaand already fucked it up, the pic says Sigurd and It's Sigmund
>>
>>1523373
>Bring him back to the court.
He's gained experience, it's time for him to come home, we might need him and with war coming he'll only be a liability to the border.

>Invest in an Infrastructure project, better roads, mills, and farming tools for our people. (Increases prosperity, increasing loyalty of the people and decreasing possible food shortages).
>>
>>1523373
I think our formal, actual name should be Robert
>>
>>1523373
>Bring him back to the court.
It's time for him to return home and share his experiences from Highrock. It's not a vacation. Also it's time for him to start thinking about how he can make himself useful at court. On the other hand, if he really hates staying here, there are other places in the realm that he could tour.

>Invest in an Infrastructure project, better roads, mills, and farming tools for our people. (Increases prosperity, increasing loyalty of the people and decreasing possible food shortages).

Other ideas:

- How trustworthy is Lord Ethan? Is he friendly to us?

- Are our sisters of marriageable age?

- Can we find some excuse to invite Lady Elwyn to Westfall again? There won't be time for romance if and when war breaks out.
>>
>>1523464
Thea is 17 and should be married already. I want to fuck the queen desu, she seems breddy capable.
>>
>>1523373

What is this autism?
>>
>>1523470
Control thy libido, man. The queen is also almost past her childbearing age. We're not exactly flush with spare brothers and sons here.

Then we should check to see if Thea has someone in mind already. If she doesn't, our underlings start figuring out which noble house has marriageable sons.
>>
>>1523494
We should fuck the queen even if we don't marry her, though I'd like to know the tenets of the church first.
>>
>>1523487
Are you one of those weird Queen fuckers from last thread that showed up after I passed out?
>>
>>1523501
No, also what is weird with wanting to fuck the queen?
>>
>>1523487
It's called a job anon. Some of us can't be neets, so we are forced to phone post. My ID will most likely have changed again .
>>
>>1523502
Why would you want to fuck the Queen? She is used goods and has a son already.
>>
>>1523499
You do realize that there are plenty of other attractive women we could plow, right? It's almost expected for a high ranking nobleman.

Risking our most important relationship just to TRY to get our dick wet seems foolhardy to me.
>>
>>1523444
supporting this
>>
>>1523508
>>1523509
Nobles often married women with children already as it showed they are fertile and can have them, thus providing heirs. Also, QM said she is one of the most beautiful women in the realm and we're already taking care of her son, the king. I think she'll try to seduce us eventually, anyways.
>>
for what purpose would we fuck the queen it gets us nothing and is kinda of a literal dick move against the recently dead bro tier king
>>
>>1523516
If she attempts to seduce us thats one thing, but pushing for a relationship with her has no value. It'll make us a target more then we are currently are. It'll lead spies to the actual Heir and ontop of that she ain't gonna be good at spitting out babies with the current political situation. Her 'son' will also be king once he becomes of age unless we kill him or he dies as well.
>>
>>1523517
Gives us a great position for our higher ambitions. We could be regent or maybe king in the future. Remember, Henry VII was the son of a widowed queen's Bastard. The blood of a queen is good for claiming a kingdom
>>
>>1523525
If the QUEEN is the one with the royal blood. Not just noble blood. The Son is the rightful heir and unless we kill him, We would not remain as king once he comes of age.
>>
>>1523528
>>1523525
The question now is, what relation does House Montfort have to the reigning family besides being mother to the king?
>>
>>1523528
The queen was not of royal blood back then but it doesn't matter. Besides, the King is not guaranteed to live a long life or have children. Even if we never become king, our children could.
>>
>>1523530
Was there any other heirs or children before her that were male? And ontop of that, Our duty is to the Queen and she said ensure the bugger lives until he becomes an adult. After that, not our problem.
>>
>>1523530
I googled the mother of Henry VII and she was of royal blood, but even if she wasn't, English succession was totally fucked up
>>
>>1523529
House Montfort's only tied to the Royal Family by the common marriage between Eleanor and former King Cedric.

>>1523452
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rob_(given_name)
I dunno why, but I preferred just "Rob"

>>1523464
>How trustworthy is Lord Ethan? Is he friendly to us?
Yes he is, the queen picked him because his relation with his cousin (Gilbert) wasn't good at all, so he shouldn't be looking for revenge.

>Are our sisters of marriageable age?
Thea does.

>Can we find some excuse to invite Lady Elwyn to Westfall again?
Of course, we can ask her to spend a few days in our court if she's available, if he wants to, she'll find an excuse to come by her own.

Succession was fucked up because everyone else in line was killed in the civil war. I don't know the line of succession here, but if the king is the last of his line the marrying the queen should put us next in line. Anyways, the queen is a smart and beautiful woman and I see more advantages in marrying her than other nobles

After a long talk with the cousel, they all agree that an infraestructure project would be the right way to spend our savings, many wars have been lost through starving, the kingdom's prosperity is one of the main pillars of the army.
Your brother's request is denied, you ask him to come back, for the borders are a dangerous place and he's been enough time there already.

Your spies in the capital inform you that there are rumors about a some merchant ships missing in the seas, most of them carrying iron, they'll inform you as soon as the gather more information concerning the matter.

-"Thea, may I come in?"- Your ask as you knock on her bedchamber's door.

-"Sure, come in!"

As you walk into the room, you find your sister sitting next to the window, she's painting the view of the gardens from her room.

-"There's something I must discuss with you, sister. You're no longer a child, it may be the time to find you a proper candidate, do you have anyone in mind?."

She smiles at you, her facial expression gives away her excitement.

-"Actually, I do."- She stands up and walks towards one of her drawers, taking a smal wooden box from it, opening it afterwards, it's filled with letters. -"I've been talking with... I friend, we met in Gilbert's feast, he's been really good with me! His name's Rodrik, from House Hartrow."

The Hartrows, a weak family, their only holding is a small town near Ghoulcrest, an alliance with them would mean nothing more than making your sister happy.

>If he makes you happy, my dear, I could arrange you to meet him again.

-"Thea, a family like his is unfit for our own. Your needs will not be fulfilled, your desires unsatisfied. Trust me, I'll find a boy worthy of you and our family."- You caress her hair gently. -"Maybe he's closer than you think."

She seems rather confused by your words, but she doesn't tries to decipher them, she's more worried about Rodrik.

-"But Rob... I really want to keep talking with him, please, give him a chance!"

-"I'm sorry darling, I can't, but a I promise you to find a great boy you."

You leave her room, hoping that her juvenile love will soon fade away.

You make your way to the barracks, towards the blacksmith workshop.

-"My Lord"- The blacksmith makes a reverence as you step into the smithy.- "The boy just went for some iron ingots to the storeroom."

-"Alright, I'll wait for him, did he learn anything this far?"

-"Yes, he's a good apprentice, at first he only sharpened swords, but he managed to use the forge quite well lately."

The boy steps in, carrying a big sack over his shoulder, he takes a look at you without really changing his expression, and proceeds to walk towards the forge, were the drops the sack.

-"Mind if I have a few words with him?"- You asked to the blacksmith.

-"Of course"- He says as he walks off.

The young king's taking the iron ingots from the sack, placing them inside a wooden chest by the forge.

-"It's been a long time you're in here, the blacksmith told me you're becoming quite a good crafter."

-"Is that what I'm gonna be the rest of my life, a crafter?"- He asked as he kept placing the iron into the chest, without facing you.

-"Of course not, you're gonna..."

-"Then take me somewhere else, I've alredy wasted enough time here."

What do you do?:

>"Yes, but you must stay here, it's the safest place."

-"Actually, that's why I'm here, tell me, where would you like to be?"

-"Anywhere but smashing iron with a hammer the whole damn day, what do you have in mind?"

-"Well, I've though about the alchemists, a merchant, but the best desicion of all, atleast for me, would be sending you with one of the knights as a squire, I've got a good man in mind, he'll treat you fine, what do you think?"

Peter sigh in disappointment.

-"Can't I just... go back to Totus?"

-"Not yet, your mother didn't give that order, she really wants you with her, but if she doesn't wants you in Totus, she must have her reasons."

-"All right, I'll be a squire then, am I supposed to keep acting like your bastard son?"

-"Yes, keep it up, you've been doing a great job."

Peter was sent to one of your highest ranking knights as a squire, living in the richer neighbourhood of Westfall, he'll accompany the knight in his trainings, hopefully learning something useful,

That afternoon your chamberlain brings you two letters one's got the Queen's seal, the other is from Gerald, first you open the one from Queen Eleanor:

"This is a formal invitation to the Corwin family to celebrate this new year with a grand feast in the capital, I really hope to see you, and your family here."

This feast will be a great opportunity to speak with the queen, meet with Lady Ellyn, and maybe even look for a pretender for your sister.

You open the other letter, from Gerald:

"My Lord, I've lost contact with my office in Utland, last two ships I sent never came back, and I haven't received even a single letter through the last month. I fear the Albian may have betrayed us."

>Inform your family to be ready to travel to the capital, we'll attend the feast.

You decide to travel with your family to the capital, you'll resolve Gerald's problem as soon as you come back.

As usual, you and your family travel with an important escort of guards, servants, maidens and bunch of minor lords.
It's a week long journey, but you made it to the city.
Adelaide is as excited as the last time she came here, that little girl loves the capital.
Thea doesn't seems that happy, she'll surely cross her path with Rodrik, but she has to tell him that there is no place for their feelings, and they must cut their relationship.

The sun's a few hours away from hiding behind the horizon when you walked past the great gates of the city, and went straight to the Queen's court, once there your things are taking to one of the guest's chambers and the servants guide you to the Royal Gardens were the nobles of the kingdom are gathering.

The garden's full of fine dressed pepople, trouvadours, jesters, there are tables with drinks and deserts, you do not see the queen amongst the guests though.

Who would you like to talk to first?:

>Your vassal, Lord Ethan.
>Lady Ellyn
>Lord Tybalt.
>A candidate for your sister.

You lean back against one of the tables as you grab a piece of cake, your mother's by your side.

-"Thea told me that you didn't allow her to talk with Rodrik"- Your mother said.

-"She'll forget him in a couple months, we cannot waste an alliance opportunity just because some juvenile first love"

-"Don't get me wrong, I understand your decision, it just makes me sad to see her so disappointed."

-"Do you have anyone in mind for her, mother?"

-"Yes, Sir Robin Montfort, last year's champion, he's the Queen's cousin, besides he's handsome and a great warrior, also, the Montforts are one of the stronger families in the kingdom."

-"Do you think they'll be interested in us?"

-"Well, you're a duke now, my son, and your relations with the Queen might also help... I could talk with the Montforts right now."

-"Sure mother, go ahead."

There's probably enough time to talk with someone else before the feast begins.

You find Lord Ethan having a talk with one of the maidens, as you go closer and the maiden notices you, she makes a reverence and walks away, leaving you with Ethan.

-"My Lord! What a pleasant surprise, I though you were still traveling."

-"I've just arrived, Lord Ethan, how everything in Tendalle?"

-"We're doing just fine but there's a lot to do, there might be some people still loyal to Gilbert, you know, traitors to the crown, my agents have had a lot of work lately. I hope to prove that I'm different from my cousin."

You and Ethan kept talking for a while. You managed to convince him to send a portion of his retinues to the service of the Duchy, increasing your available troops. (+200 heavy infantry, +100 light cavalry).

The sun has met the horizon, the guests walk into the great hall, where many servants are coming and going, bringing various dishes and beverages to the tables, you sit along with your family, after a few minutes Queen Eleanor shows up into the hall and sits on her place, at the end of the main table, there are two royal guards besides her.

Adelaide seems impressed by the hall's decoration, she can't stop talking about it with you mother. You eat and drink until you're satisfied.

-"My lord."- You hear behind you, as you turn around, it's one of your men from Westfall, he seems worried.

-"What is it?"

-"Westfall... Is under attack, over thirty ships filled with Lord Svert's men have assaulted the docks, they were fighting the guards when I left to warn Sir Hendric in Salt Lake Fortress, he rushed with the army to the city and sent me here, to inform you."

-"What? when did this happened?"

-"The attack started two days ago, it took me four hours to reach Sir Henric, and the rest to come here, I've ridden day and night my lord."

Thirty ships are not enough to fight against the forces Sir Henric is commanding, he must have taken the city back by now, but you don't know anything about the king, or what Svert was doing there, you could even mount a counter attack if you are quick enough.

You stand up from your seat and walk directly towards the Queen, as she notices you coming, she signals her guards to let you close.

-"Rob, what is it?"

-"My queen, I've just received news from Westfall, the city was attacked, probably by now Henric's got the situation under control, but I must be there."

The queen's eyes are wide open, you've never seen her that worried.

-"My son... you didn't tell anyone he's in Westfall, didn't you?"

-"No my queen, as you oredered I kept the secret from anyone."

-"May the Maker have cared for my son, take two hundred of my knights from the Royal Guard with you, in case you need them."

-"I'll inform you as soon as I find Peter."

-"Go."

You tell your mother about the situation, and make your way to the stables, the royal knight are quick to come, in a matter of minutes you're all heading west.

You barely stopped in the way, you passed through Salt Lake fortress and there was just a bunch of guards, they told you that Sir Henric was still in the city, and he managed to push the invaders away.

A few hours later you reach the city, the first thing you do is to go to the house of knight in charge of the king.

They're both safe. The king's was polishing the knight's helmet, the man was by his side drinking some ale.

-"My lord!"- He said as you walked in.

-"I'm here to check my bastard's wellness."

-"He's alright sir, I ordered to stay hidden in case the Albians broke into the house, but they didn't managed to push so deep into the city, Sir Henric was quick to answer, so the garrison hold them enough time for the reinforcements to arrive, we lost some good men though, and the market zone was raided."

-"You're a good man, I'll be forever in debt for you, and all the men that fought to defend the city."

-"You owe us nothing my lord, we were just defending our home."

"Alright sir, I must meet up with Sir Henric, I'll invite you some ale in another ocassion."

The knight raises his jar to greet you as you walk away, back to your horse.
You meet up with Sir Henric at your court, it seems the raiders didn't managed to reach it.

-"My lord, I'm glad to see you here... those fuckin' traitors, they backstabbed us."

-"Where's Sigmund?"

-"I've ordered my men to lock him down, he's in one of the cells."

-"We lost six hundred fifty eight soldiers, most of them footmen garrisoned here, there were also around eight hundred civilians killed when the raiders arrived, and around eight hundred casualties on their side, but we didn't killed them all, they retreated. If you let me advice you, my lord, we have the men to mount a counter attack, I propose to sail towards Utland and strike them before they call for reinforcements, they'll not be waiting an attack this quick."

-"We must not hurry up, we should ask the Queen for more soldiers before doing it."

-"My lord, it'll take DAYS to send a message to the queen, and even then she's got all the troops in the borders, she can't take them back, we must take this opportunity, our men are ready."

Prepare the fleet, and make it APPEAR that we are about to sail out, any moment now.

Contact the queen with a report, and ask for instructions.

Tell our spy network to get off its ass and start hunting for any enemy spies that might have infiltrated Westfall during the attack.

Hi everyone, sorry for fucking up my schedule, I'm back now.

>>1527510
Svert men are fierce warriors, but we have more men, atleast until they get any reinforcements from his allies.
We have 36 ships, capable of carrying 90 men each, we don't know how many ships they have, but they shouldn't have more than us, though they have a defensive advantage if we attack them.

This is our new forces summary after adding the troops lord Ethan gave us and subtracting casualties from the battle:

Footmen (LI) 1700
Men at Arms (HI) 1400
Archers 1312
Light Cavalry 800
Knights (HC) 300
Mercenaries 300
TOTAL: 5812
IN THE ROYAL ARMY (NORTHERN BORDER): 2756
>Available: 3056

Ships: 36 (90 men capacity each, total capacity 3240)

We also have 200 knights (Heavy Cavalry) with us because the queen sent them in case we needed them to reinforce Sir Henric's army to re-take the city, but we didn't use them.

Going with:
>No, we'll contact the queen before doing anything.

-"We mustn't rush, Sir Henric, we have to be careful with our actions, get our men garrisoned in the city and ready to sail in any moment, meanwhile send a message to the Queen, awaiting instructions."

-"As you command, my lord."

Sir Henric makes a reverence before leaving the room.

You leave your court escorted by two of your best guards and make your way through the streets of Westfall to meet with your spymaster, the closer you're to the docks and the market, the stronger the smell of blood gets, there are soldiers loading carts with deceased men, both soldiers and civilians, finally you reach the spymaster's house, as you step in you find him in a meeting with a bunch of your spies, you order him to look out for any enemy spies established in the city after the invasion.

-"Indeed my lord, that's why I called our agents to come here, our men are already trying to spot any kind of enemy espionage activities in the city."

A few days passed since you sent the letter to the Queen, you were having a talk with Josef about the economic effect that the attack would have in the County when your chamberlain steps into the room.

-"My lord, your family has arrived, along with the queen herself and part of the royal fleet, they are docking and will be at the court in any moment."

You get to the gates of the castle minutes before the Queen arrived with dozens of knights.

-"Rob, where's my son?"- Are her first words as she reaches you.

-"He's okay and concealed in one of my knights' house, your grace."

-"Alright, let's talk inside."

You and Eleanor walk into the meeting hall, to speak with privacy.

-"I cannot believe this, why would Svert attack us now, he can't stand a chance against our kingdom, and he knows it."- The Queen says.

-"King Darius must have made some kind of deal with Svert."

-"Of course he did! But what could Svert possibly get by sending his men to die like this? If Darius would have sent some of his men along Svert's men and secure the city it would be something, but this, this makes no sense, he didn't have enough men to take the city, his son was here, he knew how well the city was prepared for an invasion like this."

-"Your grace, I was informed that you arrived along portion of the royal fleet, is that right?"

-"It is, thirty ships full of men ready to fight, they're some of the reserves from the capital, they'll be under your command if you wish to attack Svert, it was your people murdered and your city plundered, and so it's your call if you want to go for revenge and end with this threat, I cannot nor I wish to hold you back, Rob."

-"But aren't those men needed to defend the capital?"

-"No, the capital's garrison is more than enough, besides if Darius would try to attack Totus he could only do it by sea, and we'd know it with a lot of anticipation, giving us time to reinforce the city, don't worry about that."

With just a little bit of luck, your available men are enough for a successful attack on Utland, what would you do?:

>Prepare our man for the invasion along the royal fleet, we're sailing as soon as possible.
>No, there's no need to attack Utland, they don't represent a threat for us, send the Queen's troops back.

Also, do you wish to discuss anything else with the queen?:

>Thea and her cousin, Robin Montfort.
>How well is the kingdom prepared for war?
>Does the Queen has any task for us?
>Ask her for an advice on who we should marry.
>Ask her if she'll marry again.

Can we also ask the Queen what kind of fleet Darius has, and if it were combined with with Svert's navy, would it be able to defeat ours?

I'd also like to interrogate Svert's bastard son and ask him some questions too.
>>
>>1535360

I'll bring this up, it's part of our first report, though it's a year old (we got it in the first thread):

>NAVY
-Kingdom's total fleet: 153 ships
-Estimated Gossian fleet: 80-200 ships (Lack of good information)
-Our fleet: 36 ships.

Also, Svert's fleet's around 30 ships.

The thing is, those are not "manned ships" they are just ships, if Darius would want to use all of his ships, he would have to pull thousands of men from the borders, and he hasn't done it yet.

Although "some" of his boats may be manned, that we don't know.

If we attack, we'll be using our 36 fully manned ships + 30 fully manned ships from the Queen.

"Alright"- You say -"I'll tell the marshall to get our men in the ships, we'll sail today, but before I leave, there's something I must ask you, your grace, as you know my sister Thea is already a lady, and your cousin Robin would be a great candidate for her, do they have your blessing?"

-"They sure have."- She answers -"But my blessing is not enough, you need the approval of Robin's father, my uncle, Lord Duncan, but if you want to, I could write to him about your intentions, I'll be really pleased if Thea and Robin get married."

-"That'd be great, your grace, is there anything else you want to discuss with me?"

-"No, I'll visit my son, then I must go back to Totus, send my men back to the capital after the battle."

-"I will."

You walked out of the meeting hall and into the main hall, there you find your mother giving instructions to a few servants to carry their things into their bedrooms,

"Rob!"- She said with joy as she rushed to hug you -"I'm so glad you're alright, I was told the battle was over when you arrived."

-"Yes mother, but I won't miss the next battle, my men are waiting to sail to Utland, Svert must answer for his actions."

-"You... you are leaving again?"

-"Yes, but don't worry, Albians won't stand a chance, I'll be safe."

Your mother kisses your forehead.

-"I know you will."

It took a few hours to get all the troops in the ships, but they were almost all there, atleast as many as you could fit in your 36 ships, Sir Henric was by your side, in the same ship.

-"My lord, it was a wise choice to wait, these thirty ships the queen brought will make a huge difference, I only hope Svert hasn't called his allies too."

-"If he did, it'll mean nothing, we'll kill as many Albians as we have to until we reach Svert."

-"Sure, that fucker will pay for what he did."

Some soldiers spent most of the journey resting, the most anxious ones sharpening their swords, and the others praying for a their victory.
By the next morning you're just a few miles from Utland, but there is a thick fog covering the horizon.

Your orders?:
>Attack right away, let's use the fog as our advantage, they won't see us coming.
>Put the fleet on stand-by, we'll wait until the fog fades away, we need a clear sight of our enemy.

>44 Failure (Best of two)

You order the fleet to stop right away, after an hour the fog's slightly fading away as you recognize Svert's castle silhouette in the horizon, you were closer to the island than you though, and so the guards from the castle notice your fleet's presence, they start ringing the main bell of the castle, Svert's men rush to take defensive positions.

It is time to order our men to attack, what's the plan?

>Option #1
>Option #2

(We couldn't bring all our men to the battle, only the ones fitting in our 36 ships + the queen's men)
>>
>>1540297
Send men to block the main road while the rest attack via ladders. Use our ships weapons to provide shore support

I figure we could do both since we can't have 3000 men scaling the ladders and walls all at once.

My plan was basically have the heavy infantry take the battering rams to the wooden gate, while the light infantry scales the ladders with archers covering both, while the Calvary hides in what I assume are trees to the left to ambush any reinforcements coming from Utland city on the road.

Nop, not the queen's knights, it's our available troops + what the queen sent us on boats.
That's 30 ships with 90 men each, all HI.
We had 1700 light infantry, of which ~only the half was available, so the army composition would be:

3250 HI
850 LI
1840 Archers

I assumed most of our troops that are in the royal army are cavalry, giving us more available Heavy Infantry.

And yes, we could do both, but that would mean more enemy archers/ballistas being able to shoot our men, look at pic related, I marked the enemy archers/ballistas reach.

Our ships managed to get into a closer formation, making most of the ships reach the coast at the same time, avoiding any kind of delay to disembark our men, the heavy infantry with their shields up made it first to the shore as the enemy archers shoot uncountable arrows to our men, most of them deflected on the shields.

Behind them came our footmen, the light infantry, carrying the siege ladders, they rushed towards the walls as our archers covered them from behind.

As our men placed the ladders on the wall and started to climb, the enemies tried to pour hot oil over their heads, but once again our archers showcased their skills with the bow by quickly killing the men trying to pour the big oil pots over our troops.

After a taking few casualties, our first men made it to the top of the wall, the enemy archers weren not a match for our heavy infantry, they were slaughtered over the walls.

More and more men climbed over the walls, as our heavy infantry made their way into the fortress taking the fight to the courtyard, our archers were now at the top the wall, shooting their arrows at the enemies in the fortress' courtyard.

Our casualties:

-80 archers

Enemy Casualties:
-1800 warriors

>81 Success

You rushed down into the courtyard and made your way towards the front of the army, it's time to show some leadership.
With Sir Henric and your best fighters by your side, you managed to break the court's front door, your men found dozens of Albian warriors into the great hall.

You entered the room with your shield high and ready to swing your sword, the first two men you fought were easy to kill, but a third one was way tougher, with an axe on each hand he stroke your shield several times, but you stayed calm and waited for him to make a mistake, it seemed your shield was about to break when you finally got the opportunity to strike, and you did it, your sword went deep into his chest.

Enemy casualties:
-100 Albian warriors

Our Casualties:
- 60 Heavy Infantry

After cleaning the great hall, you led your men into the throne room, there you found Svert, surrounded by five men, his personal guards.

-"Finally, I was beginning to think that you would never reach me."- Svert said from his throne.

-"It is time to pay for what you've done, Svert."

Svert chuckles, shaking his head from side to side.

-"Do you even understand what's happening, Rob?"

-"Explain yourself, before I kill you."

-"Why do you think I attacked you? Just because I wanted to steal some coins from your city? The truth is... I was betrayed."

-"I never betrayed you, we had a deal."

-"Of course you didn't! you're as honorable as you fuckin' father once was, I was betrayed by King Darius."

-"That happens when you make deals with the wrong people, what happened?"

-"I think you're in deep trouble, your position is even worse than mine... but I will only tell you his plans if you promise, in front of all your men and in the name of Maker, that you'll spare my life, and I'll also promise to stay away from your kingdom, and your people."

-"Or maybe, I should just take you prisoner and interrogate you."

-"You have no time for that, It would be too late."

Let us be, I won't forget this, let me stay here, ruling over my people, enough blood has been spilled around here, you can take my ships if you want to, twenty seven of the best ships you've ever seen. -"Svert, I believe in second chances, but not third ones, we will also confiscate your weapons"

-"You musn't worry about me, Rob, you can take the weapons, you killed all my warriors, it'll take years, even decades to raise that many soldiers once again, even then you have my word, thanks Rob."

-"Do not thank me, tell me what's Darius' plan."

-"Well, he gave me a lot of gold, and promised three times more if I attacked Westfall, the plan was to lure you to attack me, here, he would have a fleet with around five thousand men camping in an island near by, so once you attacked me, his men would join the battle and crush you."

-"He never sent the fleet to the island?"

-"Yes, he did, their men were camping in an island a couple miles away from here, but he lied to me, used me as a bait and let me by my own, it seems his objective wasn't to defeat you here, I think he even placed a few spies in your city on my first attack, to know when you were going to attack me, I though he would warn me, but he wasn't intrested in that."

-"Then... He must be attacking Westfall!"

-"It may be hard, but your whole family is probably dead by now, I don't know how many men you left in the city's garrison, but I saw Darius' fleet, I saw the five thousand men he promised, your city must be under his control by now, or it'll be before you arrive."

So since we're now trying to save our city from an ambush, could we requisition some supplies since you won't be having an army for a while?
>>
>>1542226
I still feel like we got jipped. We would have returned quickly after killing him anyways.

>>1542232
I suppose this can be a decent compromise......

Get all his navy press ganged and for a while and whatever is left, if he helps us more it would be easier to forgive and harder to hold a eternal grudge or have reason to off him. Maybe even explain that too him.

Maybe ask for his messenger pigeons too.

>>1542259
This works, get all the shit we can from Svert to defend our realm, rescue our family, and return justice on Darius who's a backstabbing cunt? I think we could try convincing Svert fairly well on the backstabbing part.
>>
>>1542269
>>1542259
back stabing him makes us seem less honorable and our word less. Which matters ALOT during this time period.
>>
>>1542269
>>1542278
Oh, no. I'm referring to King Darius who betrayed Svert and left him to die earlier, despite clearly having the means to aid him.
He already let us take his neat ships, we only need supplies from him and some sailors to man the ships long enough to get there.
The press-ganging part I'm more reluctant on depending on what their circumstances were.
>>
>>1542312
Basically help us get home and maybe fight Darius's ships. When all is done and settled, we'll pack em on 1 ship and send them home.

Or maybe sail em back and take that one ship, because fuck him.

Its more pragmatic to eliminate him, hopefully the island and its governing structure will fall apart, and the people resort to piracy turning it into a failed rouge state. After a few years of this, we can use it as a excuse to invade and annexed the land and subjugate and roll over its people.
>>
>>1542312
oh alright, got ya. I don't want us to press gang his shit.

>>1542338
His already letting us take the boats and men. So it'll be good.

Just lets not break out promise to him UNLESS his lying.
>>
>>1542361
What if hes lying a little but not alot?

Initially I thought Darius was going to try and sneak a assassination squad to kill the boy king, that's what I thought he try, not an entire damn invasion.

He could lose an army for little gain, and I doubt he knows who or were the boy is so that should mean hes after us. If hes not leading the army which is a safe bet since he could die there, when we return we'd crush him by cutting off his escape from sea, and sending armies and military from land. Its a poor plan all around.

Of course the Queen did go visit the boy.....

We should at least take/use his pigeons....
>>
>>1542449
If what he said was a lie, We come back and deal with him. I don't get why you seem to be unable to understand this. We cannot kill him now without effecting our own standing and if it turns out he WASN'T lying. We just made an ally for life pretty much.
>>
>>1542486
If what he said was a lie, We come back and deal with him.
Yes I know that. I just want to know if he (Svert) gets a small detail wrong and technically be lying to us, would we go back for him or just forgive it. I'm more or less down with this

>"Men! Prepare to sail right away!" (Keep your word with Svert)

Also, make use of the extra weapons and ships. Press gang our sailors to replenish our numbers if we must. "Borrow" some of Svert's banners, too. When we return to Westfall, make it look like we are returning with a combined Bessian/Albian fleet. Make Darius think that Svert SWITCHED SIDES after being betrayed, and that we are returning with BOTH of our armies.

Our men check the fallen Albian warriors to find better equipment for themselves, this is clearly an upgrade for our footmen, which are fully equiped now (All light infantry upgraded to heavy infantry). We load as much military gear as we can in our ships.

We request Svert's banners and place them in the former Albian ships, we don't have enough men to completely fill all of our new ships, yet we have enough to sail with all of them. And so we do.

In the way back to Westfall, Sir Henric brings you a new report:

We have 93 ships (36+30+27), with a maximum capacity of 8370 men, and a total of 4190 soldiers.

>Our troops composition is:

>Our men:
1779 Heavy Infantry
656 Archers
>Queen's men:
1055 Heavy Infantry
700 Archers
>Total:
2834 Heavy Infantry
1356 Archers

From far it seems that our army is double it's size, but anyone close enough could notice that most ships are half empty. A few hours passed, you and Sir Henric spent most of the time thinking how to retake Westfall, if is true that Darius sent five thousand men, it would be suicidal to attack them, Westfall's heavily fortified, every man behind those walls counts twice.
Svert's attack on Westfall was unexpected and they only fought against the city's garrison, a couple hundred men, most of our army was in the fortress east of the city, we wasn't expecting them and even so, we clearly defeated them. But this is different, right now Darius' troops ARE expecting us, and ready to fight.

By the next morning our fleet's arriving to the city, as we get closer you notice around sixty ships in the docks, you order your ships to stop as you also notice a small boat coming with a servant pulling the oars, and a well dressed man standing straight, they are coming straight to you.

-"Good morning! May I speak with Lord Corwin."- The man shouts as he stares around the ships, looking for you.

-"Who are you?"- You answer, draging the man's eyes to you.

-"Ah, Lord Corwin, there you are! My name is not relevant, for I am merely a lowborn, but I bring the words of Sir Frederik Powle, commander for King Darius, he led the succesful invasion on Westfall."

The man takes a look around the ships before resuming his talk:

-"An impressive fleet I must admit, are those Svert's banners? That's interesting, anyways, there are seven thousand of the best Gossian warriors in the city right now, ready to fight anyone trying to take it back, Sir Frederik wants you to withraw all your forces from the whole duchy of Bryl, including the city of Tendalle and the Salt Lake Fortress, he'll give you one month to coordinate with your vassals and your queen to do so. Your sweet, little sister, Adelaide, has been captured by our forces, but don't worry, she's yet unharmed, if you haven't fulfilled our request after a month from now, Sir Frederik will proceed to send you one of her fingers for each day that passes until you withraw all soldiers from the duchy, after she runs out fingers, he'll send you what's left from her hands, then her ears, and finally she'll be fed alive to the hounds.
Oh... and before I forget, there may be some ships coming to Westfall in the next days, we want safe passage from them, if they're attacked, little Adelaide will suffer the consecuences. If you do what we ask you, little Adelaide will be sent to Totus, alive of course."

He hasn't mentioned the young king, it seems they have no clue he's behind those walls.

>"What about the rest of my family?"
>"You'll regret this. All ships forward, to the city!" (Attack the city)
>"He better not put a finger on her, I'll meet with my queen straight away." (Sail towards the capital to meet the Queen)
> Write-in (Maybe ask him something?)

Damn didn't checked grammar
>>

They are expecting it.

We'll be going with this for now

>>
>>1544985
Let's go with the Queen, those faggots outnumber us.

But we should find a way to rescue her, instead of just giving away our land
>>
>>1544985
>"You'll regret this. All ships forward, to the city!" (Attack the city)
Except for one ship.
>>1545202
This.

And send one ship to land as close to the east fortress as possible. And tell the men in there to attack the city, we will try and take a gate and open it for the reinforcements to arrive and enter the city.

>>1547056
We know the city inside and out, we should be able to target its weak spots. I wonder if there are any sewer gates.....
>>
>>1547093
Yeah. Did we leave any recapturing mechanisms in the fortress or plans for it?
>I wonder if there are any sewer gates.....
What, and fill it with explosives?
>>
>>1547125
Well there's battle of hornsburg at helms deep, battle of blackwater at kings landing, The Rock at Alcatraz Island, etc.
>>
And if Darius's ships are similar to ours each carrying 90 men and he had 60 ships, he should have 5400 men assume no losses (extremely unlikely.) Now with the men behind the walls they get a force multiplier of x2.

Maybe we take a skeleton crew and fill the empty ships Darius has along with ours, and send them to the queen, and have her send them back full of troops aswell?

The rest of our family is either dead or escaped.

The Queen should know of this attack by now, and is likely to send more men.
>>
>>1544985
I call bullshit, QM. The King is a squire of one of our best knights. Both would have been brought along with the attack force. The King is on one of our boats, most likely our own boat.
>>
>>1548123
That is unlikely, shortly before we left, the queen said she would visit her son. So we likely departed before she finished her visit. The only way around that is if the knight took the boy with him on a boat and the queen visited him on that boat, or maybe the queen is playing 4d chess and she visited someone else to throw off any spies that were in her retinue or something.

I'm more interested to know how much time we have until the queen responds, and Darius's reinforcements arrive. I want to be able to get in contact with our spy network and see if they can help open any doors or gates for us.
>>
>>1548123

Before calling anything bullshit, read our battle reports
We didn't bring ANY knights, we brought only infantry and archers.
Either way, do you really think we would bring the king to the battlefield?
>>
>>1547125

We don't know about explosives, an alchemist collage would have made the available but we didn't had one.

And the closes entry point to the sewage system is in the port, we could try to get through it but It'll take time for an army to get inside and we would get attacked in the mean time.
Think that all our men are scattered between many ships, which would have to maneuver quickly to get one by one to the sewer gates, leave the men, make room for another ship, etc.
Not to mention that they would be waiting for us in any exit of the sewage inside the city.

Okay, we'll be going with attacking the city in 20 minutes!
>>
>>1548253
Can we plan our attack? Or will you automatically formulate the most optimized way for us to attack?

Also can you confirm how many men the average ship Darius owns can hold>>1547304 and if anything else in that post is viable?
>>
>>1548253
Forgot to link this one too.

>>1548264

Sure, sorry forgot to answer.

Darius' ships are capable of carrying 90 men each, so your math's correct.

Also, bare in mind that the attack happened one day ago, the queen's still on her way to the capital, she couldn't get a pigeon, but anyways let's say that she was informed about the attack, if she wants to send help, an army from the capital would take atleast a week to march to Westfall.

Any battle plan is welcome! I'll post a map like we did on Svert's fortress with options and such as soon as I come back from college (I gotta go in 30 minutes) and I'll leave it to voting how should we attack.
>>
>>1548268
You live on the east cost? Its 4am for me.
>>
>>1548245
Don't even get me started on how we didn't get to choose our troop composition. Dismounted knights would have been useful during the siege attack.

The boats would have been perfectly safe for the boy King.

I'm out. Too much railroading for my tastes. Good luck with your quest.
>>
>>1551369
Going into an active warzone with the true heir to fight an island nation is safer then leaving him behind in a castle? Are you an idiot mate?

Hes just upset and lashing out, just ignore him, hopefully he doesn't return.

Did you consider asking the QM earlier when the fleet was setting sail? Maybe he just thought we wouldn't have any input in that regard.
>>
>>1552447
I think hes just busy and skips a few steps to get on with the story.

Occam's razor and what not.
