Ten new slingers have finished their training. While very inexperienced, they have bronze armor for safety.

The skilled slingers are happy to have others to work and train with. Hopefully when this cool season is up the warming cave won't be too busy.

The power of ranged combat proved itself when the humans attacked, so you ask Science-Shroom to find a way for the spearshrooms to have range.

It doesn't take long for them to come up with a lighter spear, one made for throwing.

These throwing spears, or javelin, can be carried by spearshrooms to throw in battle or use as a backup spear.

>Javelin Unlocked!

---

Work begins on a second ballista, you are sure they will be useful. The weapon will take time to build, but it is worth the wait.

While workers get the frame built, the apprentice-shroom who suggested the idea originally comes to you.

"Chief, we've done some testing and learned something important. It takes two shrooms to work a ballista. Also if we train shrooms for it they will be more effective."

Huh, good to know.

>Ballista 1/3
>Ballista Training Unlocked

---

You've come to a decision. You should have a second, a shroom you can trust with helping shrooms when you are busy.

Science-shroom is called to your hut by spores, you also have shrooms that aren't busy come.

"Science-shroom, you have been with us since the start. So I ask you to be my second. Help me lead the village."

Science-shroom doesn't response, other shrooms are all confused and excited.

"Alright Chief! I'll be your second, but I still want to focus on my work."

Last time you expanded Capstone and trained some dinosaurs.

You also made a deal with the reptilians and had your first real battle. The humans that survived are almost all now kept prisoners, but the cold season is coming.

You also gained your first non-Chief hero unit.

You can't shake this feeling that your spearshrooms aren't trained enough. They have done well in all their battles, but you can't ignore that feeling.

The spearshrooms try to train in the warming cave, but its a little cramped and without glowflower braclets they need to spend time warming up first.

Training goes well, but the spearshrooms aren't really sure what else they can do. Batta-shroom talks to you after a training session

"Chief, I'm not sure if we can train much more. We need more experience with stronger foes if we want to learn more."

With the Priest of Shrom you gather some shrooms from the closest huts to the warming cave for a prayer.

Glowflower is nice, but what if the winters get worse? Also you need more space in the warming cave with how much training is going on there.

You have the builders start a a tunnel system under Capstone. If the Molemen can do it so can you. Though the most experience your miners have is clearing hard stone, it can't be too hard.

A few spearshrooms are needed to make sure the prisoners don't try anything while the digging is being done also. The mud and dirt here is much harder to keep together as the first branches are made.

>Capstone Tunnels 1/9

---

If anything is going to be done outside this cold season, more glowflower needs to be used for bracelets. You assign some workers to weave enough bracelets for the Spearshrooms and even the Wrogi.

The rest will stay saved up if more bracelets or paste are needed. A few spores are somewhat displeased at the treating of the Wrogi better than some shrooms, but they will understand when the Wrogi are put to use.

You bring a large container you have been using to hold your surplus of gold as other shrooms transfer goods with the moles, that is until now.You add up the numbers with your math and rather than having them carry coin by coin, it is easier just to take out the forty that you will have left over. That is, after you tell the moles about your investment with the niece.

Woah, dude, you sure. Shes still a novice. I can't make any promises that things will stay at this same rate. And im not covering this one. Just letting you know what your in for. He pulls you off to the side and tells you.

After reaffirming the deal he returns to the smallish molegirl. Hey kiddo, guess what?

The girls head tilts slightly, curious as to the news

I think you have some regulars here. They have decided to generously invest even more into you this year around. Be grateful He says patting her on the back.

The little molegirl, almost with tears in her eyes, rushes up to you and wraps her arms around your leg, thanking you.

A little later after the moles have relaxed a little they prepare to leave, they give the ten books to you and the girl and the moles brother leave. Again, the mole that can talk to you stays behind for a moment to talk to you.

I'm really thankful that you are keeping my niece afloat sir. And from the bottom of my heard I'd like to thank you for giving her a chance. After what happened to her sister, she was pretty scared the same might happen to her. But you guys are much more generous than those damn Dwarves. Anyway, thank you again. The slaves will be delivered soon, above ground.

You stand, confused of why he was so grateful.
From the hole in the wall he gives you one parting piece of information. Uh, Chief before I go you should know. The slave treatment thing. You can really do three things. You can work them until they hate you, they will do whatever the project is faster but will become angry much faster. The same goes for the opposite, slower working but higher loyalty. Then you could just free them and make them people of your village. There will be a chance for them to run away, but if not they will teach your people without even being ordered to. Welp, thats it. So the Great Wrogi should be paired with Batta-Shroom, let them become used to each other

As far as the slaves are concerned I think that we should treat them as well as possible but not free them, not these ones at least, teachers are too valuable to risk the chance of running away.

Thirding?

Miners are reporting a large amount of bugs and reptiles in the ground as they dig in some places. Most of them aren't a problem, but some long thin reptiles lash out and have their heads cut off by picks.

The prisoners enjoy the not bug meat these days.

The cold is starting to lessen already, making the Wrogi more active. The spearshrooms and wrogi have started a game where the shrooms throw sticks that the wrogi then retrieve.

Another game is throwing the stick up in the air and the wrogi trying to hit it with their poison. Their poison sacks seem to inflate when they get happy as well.

Batta-Shroom and the Great Wrogi just spend a couple hours at a time looking at each other.

So many books, you have Bookshroom take them and get back to you once they learn what they roughly are.

As it turns out the other science shrooms pitched in and give you a list of the books, they even had the one prisoner translate the human titles:

>Two short human picture books "Knight's Tale"
>Another collection of human papers
>Collection of dwarven papers
>Another copy of History of the Third Great War with a different cover
>Reptilian Fish Book
>Small leather book ???
>Farming for the Educated Man
>Blank book
>Reptilian book
