This is the third day in a row you’ve been called into work, the third fucking day. It's not like you DON’T appreciate the money, or the chance to get out, it’s just that something seems off today. You don’t know whether it’s the increased amount of ambulances and police going through your neighborhood, if it’s the riots that have broken out all over the world almost overnight, all the black helicopters and military cargo planes that have been flying over lately, or the new flu that seemingly everyone has gotten. Today is not going to be your day.

But, where did you work at, again?

>The Gun Range. You made sure every god fearing American could practice and exercise their second amendment, and you also get in a little range time yourself. (Bonus to Firearms and Firearms training)

>The State Capitol. While you weren’t the flashy Senator who got to show their face to the Cameras, you picked up on some skills, and you really did all the work. (Bonus to Persuasion and organization.)

>The Gym. While you aren’t the biggest Chad in town, and you did get a degree in college, it doesn’t change the fact that pumping Iron and making sure others feel the burn is like your home away from home. (Bonus to Strength and Endurance)

>Northeast Community College. Any other academic might laugh and talk behind your back for only substituting at a Community college, you still know more than most of them put together in mechanical engineering and Geography. (Bonus to Engineering actions and greater knowledge of the land)

>The Free Clinic. It’s not the most luxurious of places, and the pay certainly isn’t anything to write home about, it gives you moral superiority and it has really honed your medical skills. (Bonus to healing and (secret pro/con)

>To the Garage. You’ve known how to use a wrench and vice grip since before you could walk. Hell, you joined the army for 4 years just to work on the Tanks there. You’ve always been drawn to cars, and that’s why you have your own car tricked out. It might not be exactly street legal, but no one cares, especially in the last couple of days. (Bonus to vehicles and access to a High Quality vehicle.

>To The hangout. You’ve been in charge of this gang for 5 years now, joining when you were ten. They were more of a family to you than your actual family, and know you run your section of the city. Due to your proficiency at it, the gang runs itself, or, it did.. (Bonus to raiding and access to an armed group of 15 at the start.)

The Newport Clinic. A rinky-dink little shitstain in the poorest neighborhood of the city. The supplies are cheap, the patients are desperate, and your coworkers are split on either not caring, or caring too much and actually thinking that the man with the “broken” hand isn’t here to try and get OxyContin. You’ve been there for 5 years now though, so you can’t bear to find another place of work, even though you would be qualified for everything short of the Mayo Clinic.

You pull into the parking lot of the clinic, ten minutes late because of some fight 10 cars ahead of you, so you had to take the ‘scenic” route. You roll up the windows on your 2005 Ford Escape, a gift from your dad upon graduating from Medical School, and make sure to lock your doors. Before you do, you check your glove compartment. You remember you had your M1911 for defense in this neighborhood, as you have treated a gunshot at least once a week, and you don't want to die just yet . For the past two days though, it’s been nothing but the Flu, Strep throat, and strangely, bites. That’s neither here nor there though, because today is Tax Day, your fucking luck. You walk into the clinic and prepare to get to work.

“Good morning doctor. Sorry to make you come in again, but both Johnson and Alyssa are sick, probably with that godforsaken flu that has been going around.” Your aid and childhood friend, Peyton McDand relays to you, albeit a little groggily. It’s probably for the best, as we have not only a backup of patients, but you also still have to fill out the tax forms. I have filled out everything but the basic info, like your name. Here’s the form.” He says as he hands you a clipboard with a stack of thick papers clipped onto them.

Alright, writing.
>>
>Well that fucking sucked Peyton, couldn’t you have done that yourself? It doesn’t matter, lets just do our job.

“Alright Xavier, don’t have to be a bully about it.” He says, in a playfully hurt tone. “We have 10 patients to look at, and I have ordered them from worst condition to best condition. Normally some of these people would be in the hospital, but with how packed they are lately, no dice.”

He hands you another clipboard with ten names and a few details underneath.

>Leroy Jacobs
Chills, vomiting, infected bite, insomnia, diarrhea, fever

>Jessica Hamilton
Vomiting, infected bite, insomnia, irritability, bloodshot eyes, constant bloody nose, fever

>Harry Smith
Vomiting, chills, insomnia, fever, discoloring of skin, broken arm

>Belvin Jules
Fractured arm, gunshot grazing wound

>Andrew Stevenson
Bite that needs cleaned and gauze applied, no other symptoms

Who do you want to see first?
>>
>>1501316
First, since there seems to be a lot of people who have bites, try and get a timeline as to what is going on.

Sudden outbreaks of violence or delusion are tracked by hospitals as they can predict what will happen to a certain extent, and prep for future arrivals.

Then, because Xavier is a giant nerd (I know very few in Medicine who aren't), he goes and secretly gets a concealable blunt weapon to hide on his person.
>>
>>1501388
>Alright Mr. Jacobs, please follow me to the room on the right. I have to grab a little paperwork, so I will see you in there.

Leroy gets up and heads towards one of the two rooms, the one you didn’t tell him to go into, but it was more of a shuffle than an actual walk and you feel bad for the man so you don’t correct him. He must be in a lot of pain. You reach behind the reception desk to grab a small billy club you keep for safe keeping in case of a burglary or an upset patient, and you slips it into your lab coat, just in case this guy gets angry.

These people would be in much better care at an actual hospital. There is no formal paperwork on anyone here. I mean, you don’t even really have a good data system, you just try to help the people the best you can. You walk into the room where Leroy is to find him slumped on the ground between the door and the medical gurney set up. You help him back up and sit him on a chair in the room, checking his temperature. His temperature is at 104, an extremely dangerous level, and Leroy looks to be on death’s door. You are about to go get Peyton to call the cops, when you hear a scream from the waiting room.

“AH SHIT, XAVIER GET THE FUCK IN HERE AND GET THIS CRAZY BITCH OFF OF ME!” Peyton screams from the other room, while giving audible grunts very vivid language.

You run out to the waiting room to see a patient attacking Peyton, with another Patient trying to help Peyton push the woman off, and the other woman has ran out of the clinic.

You pull out your billy club from your lab coat and push, who you now know as Andrew, out of the way so you can get behind the attacker. You put the club in front of her neck, and yank back. She flies to the floor as you whip around her so you don’t get pinned beneath her. She gets up off the ground and turns towards you. She has blood coming out of her mouth, her eyes are glazed over and crystal blue, and her eyes are bleeding.

She lunges at you before you can react, and she would have pinned you if it wasn’t for Andrew. He tackles her from the side and takes her right into a coffee table, breaking it. Normally this would have been the end of the story. The cops would have come, you would have filed a police report, and she would have been arrested.

However, today was not your day. Firstly, the deranged woman did not just break the table, she had a wooden splinter driven right up through her abdomen. Secondly, when you tried to call the police, you had gotten a busy signal, a fucking busy signal. Thirdly, the woman who you assumed was dead, as there was a giant wooden shard through her body, was now writhing around trying to grab Andrew’s leg. To make matters worse, there is now a banging noise coming from inside of the room where Mr. jacobs was being evaluated. Your two companions now look at you, expectantly.

It’s 8:15 in the morning, and you are terrified. What are you going to possibly do now?
>>
>>1503201
Well shit, we better make sure that woman is no longer a threat. Via repeated blows to the head.

Either that or go get our gun. Some firepower might settle our nerves. Also a quicker and (relatively) cleaner way to put the deranged woman down, should we agree to do that.

>I know what I am about to suggest is fucking insane, and illegal, but we should beat her head in. She obviously is high on some sort of drug, and the police aren’t answering. Let’s just solve this problem right now.

You raise your club to get ready to give the woman a “Minority Special” when Peyton grabs your arm with a firm grip.

“Are you your of your fucking mind Xavier? Killing a woman in cold blood? We need to call an ambulance or something. We are in a clinic for god sake. I don’t want to be an accomplice here, and Andrew probably doesn’t want to be either.” He warns, gesturing over to Andrew, who is looking down at the writing woman.

“Listen man, I’m not a fancy doctor like you, but I did two tours in Iraq and I know when something is a lost cause. This bitch should have been dead about 30 seconds ago, I mean there isn’t even blood flowing out anymore. Whatever she is, she isn’t alive. We should just bash her skull in like Xavier recommended.” Andrew argues, absent mindedly, as he was still looking down at the woman.

>Andrew has a point Peyton. We still have to deal with that asshole in the other room banging on the door. Andrew, here is the club. You look to be the one best suited for this. I am going to run out to get my pistol just in case.

You walk out of the front door and into the parking lot. For some reason you expect the world to be in flames, with riots happening in the streets, but everything seems normal, besides the obvious police and ambulance sirens throughout the city and the steady stream of military aircraft in the sky. You unlock your door, open your glovebox and get your gun. You grab the pistol and the two magazines you have with it, putting the metal sticks into your lab coat and tucking the sidearm into the back of your pants.

You walk back into the clinic cautiously and see Andrew holding a bloody club in one hand, while the other is wiping his face off with a cloth. I guess there was still some blood in her. The woman that was previously attacking your best friend now had a head that resembles a taco, more than a holder of one of the most elusive things in science. Peyton looks over to you and hitches his thumb over to the banging coming from the door,

>Open the door and just shoot the guy. You’re already in the shit, might as well get deeper.
>Leave him. It’s time to get the fuck out of this clinic anyway.

It's a very small and poorly funded clinic. There is no other doctors, as they are sick, and you didn't have enough money for a security guard. That's why you had a gun and that billy club. Everything else is possible though.
>>1503515
Don't worry about it
>>
>Andrew, I need your help again. I am going to open the door carefully, and if this guy flies out and starts to attack, you bludgeon him with the club. If you need any more help, I have my pistol and will shoot him.

"That's a mighty risky plan you got there. If we don't get fucked, you have to bandage my arm up and then you still owe me one." Andrew shoots back, in a begrudgingly but compliant tone.

Peyton runs into the storage room, for a reason lost to you, but he isn't important right now. Well, here goes nothing.

Anyone have thoughts on where we'll go after we leave the clinic? Do you have something in mind QM?

Because I was thinking we could try getting on a boat. Although that might be difficult if we don't know of any specific boats we could get on. My point however is that Lake Michigan isn't far.

Other than that just leaving the city seems like a good idea. By car obviously (if we decide against my boat idea), and perhaps after stopping at our home or something to get supplies/personal possessions.

I'm assuming we'll stick with our buddy Peyton. Also Andrew, and we need to make sure and treat him right after our current action.
somehow I got confused about who's who, I think I'm clear on it now though.

>Alright Andrew, I will open the door and get out of your way. Just be ready to either be VERY relieved, or beat the hell out of an old man with a Billy Club.

You walk up to the door, as the banging continues on the other side of the door by a very unhappy patient. Apparently you need to work on your bedside manners. You grab a hold on the door handle while Andrew raises his club in a striking position. Peyton is still nowhere to be seen.

“GO!” Andrew shouts, as you fling the door open and out of the way of the oncoming shuffle.

You reach for your gun, but there is really no need. Andrew takes one large swing and cracks the head of what was formerly Mr. Jacobs, splattering brain, blood and viscera all over the door and wall. You really hope this was legal, because no amount of bleach is cleaning this shit up.

>Jesus Christ Andrew, that was quite a swing there. Here i was ready to go Rambo and you got the job done.

Andrew looked ready to respond with a witty one-liner when Peyton came back into the lobby, interrupting what was surely an action hero’s remark.

“Alright guys, we can’t stay here, and we surely can’t leave these medical supplies to be stolen. So I filled this bag with what we had of value. Antibiotics, gauze, suturing, disinfectants, a little morphine, painkillers, and a good amount of glue.” Peyton lists off as he looks into the duffel bag of medical supplies. “What the hell do we do now?”

After wrapping up Andrew’s arm, and checking for a temperature (he didn’t have one), you three loaded into your car and started the engine. Still, the world seems strangely in order. Fuck, maybe you really did just murder two innocent people that were just on drugs.

“Alright Doc, I got some business to attend to down at my garage, we’re going there first. Trust me, it’ll be worth your time” Andrew says, while buckling his seatbelt. Who knew he paid attention to proper road safety.

“Not going to happen. We have to get to the Police Station right away and report these murders. They will understand since we couldn’t get a hold of them on the phone.” Peyton argues, in a worrying tone.

>Go to the Garage first. You owe Andrew and he did say he will make it worth your while.
>Go to the Police Station. If you go anywhere else, the Police could get very suspicious and make your life a living hell

So now I guess it’s time to spill the beans on what that special pro/con was. You got to see the infection firsthand, and you also get an early notice before shit hits the fan completely. You get to choose to go to 3 different places before everything goes tits up, so choose wisely.

>Peyton, stop being a bitch and listen to what I have to say. There was a woman who shouldn’t have been alive, writhing on the ground. There was an old man who lunged at Andrew and tried to kill him. The police aren’t even answering their phones. If Andrew has somewhere where we will be safe until we can get a handle on our situation, then we are going. End of discussion.

And with that, Peyton shut up and skulked in the back seat. Andrew gave you the directions to the garage, and seeing nothing out of the ordinary, you think that this would be the best time for a few questions, of the medical variety.

>Andrew, you have a bite and everything, but you show none of the symptoms of the other patients. How did you get your bite, and how did you feel afterwards?

“So I was working late two nights ago in the garage, tuning my car as I do every month, and I heard some racket coming from the back office. I was alone, so no one else was of course here. I grabbed my Monkey Wrench and snuck to the back. There was some asshole eating my so I ran up and tackled him. I didn’t know the guy was going to fucking bite me, so I had put my arm around his neck when he took a chunk out of me. I pushed him to the ground, beat his head in, and hid the body out back in a barrel, then went home. As for how I felt, four hours later my head was on fire and I was vomiting up everything I had in me. My nose was bleeding and I passed out on my kitchen floor. I woke up about five hours later and I was fine. I cleaned my bandage and went to work.” Andrew relayed to you, as he was making the actions to accompany it.

>Well I wasn’t asking for your life story or anything, but I am glad you are okay. As long as you clean the gauze and keep the wound clean, you should be fine in no time. Peyton, is there anything on the news as of now?

“Well, O’Hare just cancelled all flights in and out, and President Trump just shut our borders as well, and the US military is being deployed in major US cities to “stop the riots that have paralyzed the country”. Peyton read, as he scanned his phone.

>Well that’s great. Let’s just get inside the garage so we can plan our next move.

The Ford pulls into the open garage, that has the title “Rudy’s Car repair” in neon letters, and a “burly” man pulls the garage door shut. If this was an elaborate way to steal medical supplies, it would probably work now.

“Alright guys, get out and mingle. I have to get a few things and finish some business.” Andrew says as he gets out of the car and heads for a back office

So we are in a garage full of probably bikers. What next?

I got to make these shorter
>>
>>1503993
Mingle with the bikers as suggested I guess. We can ask what their thoughts on the riots and such are, but also lighter topics, like if they've seen any good movies lately. Hopefully they'll bring up their own topics of interest.
>>
>Peyton stay in the car and scan the news for us. I want to know what the fuck is going on in this country.

You get out of the car and look around for a moment. There seems to be a few people here to talk to. One man is watching out a window with what looks like a M14 in his hand. Another man is working on a truck, seemingly trying to do his job, while another is in the makeshift kitchen the garage has for it’s employees.

>Talk to Mr. Rambo with the M14 in his hands looking out the window

>Hey man, I didn’t mean to scare you or anything, I just wanted to introduce myself. I’m Xavier Lewis and I came here with Andrew. Can I ask what you’re doing here?

“If Andrew is solid with you, I guess you’re solid with me. I’m Baker, and my job here is to make sure no one tries to break in or those assholes from a few blocks away come here trying to start shit since the cops aren’t doing their fucking job.” He replies gruffly as he continues looking out the window. “These riots are fucking bullshit. I’m not going to prison over defending my shop, so no one better come onto this fucking property.” He adds.

>Hey while I have you, do you know if there are any Gun Shops or Armories around here?

“Well there’s a Gun Shop about two blocks south, run by a guy pretty in with us. If you mention me, he’ll give you a discount, and a peek into some of the “special” shit he has. Before you say anything about how i can trust you, Andrew told me what happened back there. You guys are alright here. Now fuck off and let me get back to my job.” He turns back and continues to look out the window.

There are the Young Angels about 10 blocks to the North, the Westside Slingers, to the, you guessed it, west, and then the Crips and Bloods. The bikers you are with now, you think, control the meth and weapons trade for a good 1/5 of the city, and so they deal with a lot of the gangs in the city.

Rolled 65 (1d100)

After getting told off by the scariest looking man you’ve had the pleasure of speaking to, you decide to go to the one that looks a little more “jolly”. He looks to be unloading MRE's from a crate into the few cupboards that inhabit the improvised kitchen in the Garage. He hears you approaching and turns towards you. You can only picture Santa Claus if he wore leather and probably has killed people before.

“Hello my friend! I heard about the jam you helped Andrew out of, and the medical attention you gave him. You have my gratitude. Andrew is one of the best drivers we’ve ever had here, and he’s helped me out more than once. Now excuse me, I have much work to do, and not a lot of time for it.” He happily says, as he turns back to stocking the cabinets.

Well you stand corrected. A Russian biker Santa Claus. Jesus Christ today is off to a great start. You check your watch and it’s only 9:15. It’s gonna be another long one.

>Talk to the mechanic working on his truck
>Go find Andrew and plot your next move
>See what Peyton managed to find on the internet on what’s going on

Talk to the mechanic. We need to make a proper war-rig. We need a semi with a long trailer, extra fuel tanks, replacement wheels, a armored ram on the front, extended cab space, tons of weapons and a crew of at least 12 to run it

>>1505454
You don't want a war rig, QM?
>>
>>1505460
It's if you guys want a War rig. Just know that this is going to be as realistic as I can make it, so you're right, the mileage would be terrible,as would the speed, and the parts needed to fix it. But it's not impossible
>>
>>1505343
>Go find Andrew and plot your next move
Well, I'm fine with just figuring out our next step. We still have time to go to a couple places before total panic and chaos breaks out right? I'm thinking we go to at least one store, be one of the lucky bastards who's able to buy a bunch of shit before everything goes to shit.

After talking to the other Bikers, it’s time to talk to the one doing the only thing that should be happening in a garage, working on cars. You start to walk over when Andrew comes out of the office very excitedly and jogs over to you.

“Today is our lucky day Doc, because I have some great news. Come with me out to the back and I’ll show you. Peyton, get your ass over here.” He motions towards Peyton and starts walking to the back door.

>Go with Andrew, he did say it was great news and he seemed static about it

Well Andrew certainly is excited about something, and knowing what you know about him, you’re probably going to be equally excited. You walk out from the garage into what looks like a courtyard with a few wrecks of old junk cars, and an actual garage that looks like it could hold 3 cars in it. Surrounding this is courtyard is a chain link fence with a heavy tarp so it can’t be peered into or can’t be peered out. There is also a metal gate that looks like it can be pulled back so a car can drive out of it.

Andrew runs into a side door on the left of the garage, and a few seconds later the doors open and you see what can only be describes as what Jesus would drive if he was either a PMC or an African Warlord with oil money. It is beautiful.

“Well boys, I talked to the boss, and he let me have this. It’s my payment for all the years that I’ve worked for him. Something big is going down, and I am not going to be caught with my pants down and my hands on my ankles.” He replies very estatically, as he motions to his new ride.

>Well holy shit Andrew, I guess now I owe you on-OH SHIT

In the middle of your compliment, shooting breaks out at the front of the garage, shocking you back into what your life is now. Andrew grabs his rifle and starts to run to the back door of the Mechanic's Garage.

>Convince Andrew to ditch his gang and get in the Jeep to drive away (Hard)

>Hold the phone Andrew, I’m not going to hit shit with this pistol, I’m going to need something a little more powerful.

“Ah shit that’s right. I was supposed to give this to you.”Andrew exclaims in a hurry as he runs back to where the Jeep is parked.

He comes out a few seconds later with what looks like some pipes welded together and 3 magazines for it. He runs back over to you, shoves his little care package into your hands, and runs off into the Mechanic’s garage. Not wanting to lose your new ride, you hand Peyton your trusty 1911 and have him hide behind the jeep, in case anyone gets the idea of “jacking your ride”.

You run into the Mechanic’s Garage and steal a peek out of the window. You count 6 men with assorted rifles, nothing crazier than an AK47 wielded by some unruly ruffian. They are spread out in front of you, hiding behind assorted cover. Three are hiding behind a car that is parked in the middle of the street parallel to the Garage, probably the one they all came in. One man is hiding behind a large parked truck, while another is behind some old crates.

“IT’S THE FUCKING YOUNG ANGELS COMING TO FINALLY GET RID OF US! I AIN’T LETTING THEM ANYWHERE NEAR MY BABY” Screams the mechanic that you never got to talk to, as he fires blindly out the window.

Really shitty Map incoming

>Alright Andrew, we’ll hold our fire and when one of the gangsters pop out, we’ll sh-OH FUCK IS THAT A GRENADE?

While you were explaining the plan to Andrew, a gang member had popped out of cover to try to throw what looks to be a number of explosives taped together. In the brief few seconds you saw it, there was a molotov, a few sticks of dynamite, and three pineapple grenades tied together with Duct Tape. Luckily for you though, everyone else in the Garage seemed to see the same thing, and completely unloaded on the poor guy, turning him into the human embodiment of Swiss cheese. Also fortunately for you, he had dropped the explosive device, which then proceeded to wipe out anyone who was behind the car, and the car itself. This battle got a lot more lopsided.

The two gang members left seem to be ready to run. You might be able to shoot one to injure, but you doubt they’ll be back.

>Alright boys, let's try to take one of these alive

The multiple rifles firing from the Garage seem to do nothing but encourage the gangsters to get out of there that much easier. The one behind the truck gets it going, and drives out of the parking
lot while the man that was behind the crate jumps in the back as they drive away. Well you aren’t taking any of them alive, that’s for sure.

The aftermath isn’t really much to talk about. The explosion destroyed just about everything the gangsters had on them, so there wasn’t much for loot. The bikers seem in high spirits though, as they didn’t lose anyone. Peyton had come back after the explosion and Andrew starts walking over to you, with a big goofy smile on his face.

“Holy shit that was Intense Xavier. I’m glad we didn’t even need your expertise, those dumbasses fought the battle themselves. That was a fucking rush. Anyway, I resolved the issues I had, and I’m free to leave with you guys, in that beautiful beast in the back. It has a full tank of fuel and another 30 gallons of fuel in a container in the back. Where we going next?” Andrew asks, as he starts walking to the back door.

>Go to the Police station. But after what just happened, it might not be the best course of events.

Ammo and repair kits first, as we have no way of easily recreating them, maybe a safe or two to keep the more important things in, then
>Camping store, Sports Store, Super Market, etc
but since a lot of those can also be found in more rural areas (looking at you Bass Pro World) we can also get them on the way out.
>>
>>1507635
This. Hit the gun store, buy or steal as much as we can then hit a Rural King or Bass Pro on the way out of town. Get Hand tools (Shovels, axes, nails, rope, hammers, etc) and as much ammo and food as we can carry.

Also try getting a bunch of fuel before it runs out, and possibly a way to get an engine that uses biofuels.

>Alright Andrew, let's get into the truck. We’re going to the Gun Shop Baker told me about. I’ve got some cash, as does Peyton. If we’re overreacting for no reason, then at least I’ll pick up the gun I’ve been wanting. Get Peyton and let's get the hell out of Rudy.

You gather your few personal belongings from your jeep, and you make your way over to “The Beast” as Andrew has lovingly called it. It has 19 mpg in the city, but it makes up for it as nothing short of an RPG will dent it. Peyton loads up in the back seat and lists some of the current news while Andrew says goodbye to his crew.

“Well it looks like Trump has been flown to a secret location somewhere in the Midwest, and he has issued a State of Emergency, all of Europe is in a State of Emergency too, and Russia has just went dark, like China. There are unconfirmed reports of nuclear explosions in Israel and India. I mean, the US isn’t in too bad of shape. The military has been deployed all over the country, and we are trying to pull all US forces out of every major military base and return them to the US. Oh, and a Ohio class submarine has stopped responding.” Peyton recites like he’s somehow proud of what’s been happening. Well, he’s always been a little “eccentric” about these kinds of happenings.

Andrew comes back out with a duffel bag like the army would issue. His rifle is sticking out and it looks pretty bulky. He throws his bag in the back, next to Peyton, and he gets into the Driver’s seat.

“Alright lads, we’re are going to Abraham’s. He owns that gun shop you were talking about, and more importantly, he owes me a few favors.” Andrew explains, as he drives The Beast out of the garage, and into the Chicago street.

The strangest thing though, is that instead of chaos like you would expect, the city is strangely quiet. There are occasional gunshots, more than normal for Chicago, but nothing overly violent. There are the occasional fights in the street, or the strung out druggie shuffling in an alley, but it’s almost peaceful. You pull up in front of “Abraham’s Guns: Since the beginning of time”, and see a man in fatigues loading his pickup truck with guns, ammo, MRE’s, and other tools and outfits you wouldn’t even know what to do with.

Andrew gets out and goes to talk to who you assume is Abraham. The conversation lasts a full minute before Andrew jogs back to the Beast.

“Alright guys, Abraham is getting the fuck outta here, but he’ll give me the keys and whatever is left. All he wants is the extra gas we have in the back. What do you think?” Andrew says, out of breath.

>Fuck him, we need the gas more. We’ll find somewhere else.
>Alright, we need guns and ammo more. Give him the gas

>Well why don’t you have him come with us? Tell him you have two doctors, and plenty of fuel for both trucks. He can use his truck and we can follow him to wherever he is going, four guns are better than one.

“Ah god damn it Doc, fine, I’ll go talk to him.” Wow, Andrew almost sounds angry then. Who knew he had an angry bone in his body.

A few seconds later he comes trotting back to the Beast while Abraham drives away. Well you hope that went well.

“Alright you guys, Abraham gave me the keys. He said we’ll meet him in Stronghurst. I guess it’s some shitty town on the other side of the state. He said that if we don’t come, then he’ll find us and gut us. So don’t fuck up.” Andrew warns, with his glare being enough to shock you into shaking your head.

He walks towards the front door and unlocks it. You tell Peyton to stay in the car and watch for looters, but he is so focuses on his phone that you doubt he even heard you. You walk into the store with your grease gun, ready for some shopping.

It’s not disappointing, but you were kinda hoping he left something, “more”. There are about 6 rifles left in the shop. Those being a M590 MossBerg Shotgun, a run-of-the-mill AR15 with no visible attachments, the M40 rifle, a civilian MP5, 2 9mm Berettas, an Illegal FN P90, and an illegal Steyr Aug.

The MossBerg has about 4 boxes of 25 shells each. The AR15 has an Ammo can with a good 1000 rounds inside. The M40 has about 100 rounds already loaded in a bandolier. Both Berettas have a total of 10 clips to share between them. The P90 has 4 box magazines, which equal about 200 rounds. The Steyr Aug has 4 magazines with it.

What you also find are 4 K-Bar knives in their leather sheaths, a complete set of a tactical vest (see picture), 3 Ballistic Vests (Military Quality), and a tactical helmet that probably “fell off the back of a military truck”.

You can only reasonably carry two weapons, and use one at any time. You get a pick of two accessories that I listed in the last paragraph. Choose Wisely Anons.
>>
>>1508304
Ballistic vest, AR15, knife, p90.

We're a doctor, not a soldier, let's give the fancier stuff to Andrew as it would probably be wasted on us.

Then, let's try to get out of town, fast. We can try to get food and supplies in the countryside. We do not want to be stuck in chicago in some traffic jam when shit hits the fan.
>>
>>1508304
>tactical vest (see picture), 3 Ballistic Vests (Military Quality),
So the tactical vest is better than the ballistic vests?
>>
>>1508304
AR-15, K-BAR knife and tactical vest.
>>
Also voting for P90
>>
>>1508325
Well you would only get one ballistic vest, but the Tactical vest lets you effectively carry your ammo and basic medical supplies, while the Ballistic vest just stops small arms fire. You could wear both though.

Does this mean any two weapons, or two primary weapons?
>>
>>1508398
Yeah, two primaries and a secondary. That can either be a pistol or knife/Hatchet. In the future, it could change.

I'm just waiting to see if Toruc or another anon wants to make a decision. If not, i think we have a consensus.

Tactical vest, ballistic vest, beretta, AR15, and M590 MossBerg Shotgun.
We should ask what the other two want. Andrew should get first picks on weapons, which goes before our vote.
Personally I think Andrew should get the M40 rifle, Steyr Aug, ballistic vest, tactical helmet, and a beretta.
Peyton should get a ballistic vest, one of our other pistols, a FN P90, and the civilian MP5.

>Alright Andrew, let me have the AR15 and the P90. Those weapons would probably fit me the best. I’ll also probably take the Tactical vest, the Knife and the Ballistic vest. You can give the two sidearms, the shotgun and MP5 to Peyton.

“Fucking awesome then, it works out perfectly. In Iraq, I was in a marine recon unit and we used this rifle all the time. As for the Aug, well let's just say I did a few months with some Australians and I had to get used to the rifle. That’s all still classified though.” He finishes, with a wink. You don’t know whether he’s joking or not, or if it’s better that he is.

You put the rest of the gear into a duffel bag and throw it into the back, next to Andrew’s bag of personal effects. Putting on the gear was a pain in the ass, and you feel a little slower, but it’s going to be useful in almost all cases. It’s about 11:30 and the city is getting progressively worse. Fights are starting to break out more often, and a steady rhythm of gunfire is filling the sky. You probably only have one or two stops at most before it’s time to get out of the city, unless you like being in a tomb.

I guess our "long-term" plan for the moment is to get out of town and meet with Abraham.

I'm guessing we're starting to get pretty hungry by now. But at the same time, food and water is relatively easier to come by than specialised stuff like hunting/fishing gear, outdoor clothings, warm sleeping bags, tent, lamps, even maybe night-vision goggles?

Let's try our luck at the hunting shop, and hope we come across some water and food quick enough. Don't want to get dehydrated on first day.

I vote we try to find a water fountain or employee's toilet's sink in the shop and fill up some canteens with water if we can.

Andrew gives a grunt of confirmation and a starts The Beast. Peyton continues to read off the news, and it’s only getting worse.

“The British Government has gone dark, and the Royal palace has been completely overrun. Now you might think that it is a terrorist attack, but it’s just waves of thousands of people attacking and destroying everything in their way. New York City has also been declared a No go zone and all military and police elements have been called to a central location. This news is the same everywhere. Chicago thankfully still has control on the suburbs, but the inner city has gone to complete shit. I hope you guys have a plan.” Peyton says cautiously, before going back to his phone.

If the city is hell, the suburbs are more of a purgatory. Driving past neighborhoods you can catch glimpses of groups of men armed with guns, groups of men armed with no guns, and entire streets trying to barricade themselves with trash cans, cars, and whatever assortment of trash and rubble they can. The Bass Pro Shop on the other hand, well it doesn’t look good. There are multiple bodies in the front of the store, and sporadic gunfire coming from inside. There aren’t any people in the parking lot, but you can bet there are people in the store.

Peyton wants to just go find Abraham and that he will have what we need, while Andrew thinks we can quickly go in and grab just a few things.

“Alright mate, I have the list of what to get. I’ll rip off half and give it to you while I take the other half. You have ten minutes before we have to get the fuck out of here.” Andrew instructs, as he rips a piece of paper in half and hands you part of it.

You have a shopping cart filled survival gear and a nice Crossbow. Of course Peyton is the one who's hunted out of the two of you, unless you count humans on Andrew’s part. It was a little cathartic filling up shopping cart and knowing you don’t have to pay for anything. Liberating actually. You and Andrew meet back at the front counter with about two minutes to spare, and Andrew picks up a little keychain to remember the incredible luck we’ve had here. All in all, it could have been a worse day.

Peyton eagerly hurries you into the Beast with your loot, and suffice to say, it’s getting crowded in there. Take with that as you will. As you pull out of the parking lot and head towards Stronghurst, there is a thick cloud of smoke above the “Velvet City”, but you’re out of the fire. You just hope that you’re not heading into the frying pan.
Alright guys that concludes the prologue of "From Ashes to Gold". I am glad people have enjoyed it etc. etc. I have to do a few things, but I'll start the first chapter in a few hours. Any questions/comments/concerns/insults are appreciated and encouraged

You got out of Chicago right in time, because holy hell things went to shit fast. There is now a permanent glow of flames and explosions on the Horizon, and even two hours from Chicago there is still fighting going on. You were driving on the road leading into Chicago, but heading the other direction. For some reason people still want to obey traffic laws even now. There’s been a constant traffic block for the last 5 miles and it’s like a giant conga line of death. People are getting drug out of the car and attacked. Holy shit what is actually happening?

“Yeah and that’s Los Angeles gone. The city is confirmed “lost” and whatever periscope videos I am getting out of it, they’re blurry and fake, so it looks like we’re still in the dark on what’s happening”, Peyton reported, going back to his phone.

>What the fuck do you mean by fake Peyton? Are they showing blurry lights in the sky and claiming UFO’s?

“No it’s more like people getting shot multiple times and they keep moving, massive groups of people destroying everything in their wake, people drug out of their homes and eaten right in front of their children. Listen guys, this is just a “war of the Worlds” type punk out, but it’s gone on far too long.” Peyton replied, like he knew the answer and was waiting for someone to agree with him.

“Well if that’s the case Newton, then how come the European governments have gone dark, Russia has closed their borders and have also gone dark? Explain that to me? If this is a big prank, then the fucking punchline better be the second coming because I ain’t laughing right now.” Andrew shot back, offended that Peyton even suggested what he had.

“Huh, I guess I hadn’t thought of that.” Peyton quietly said, almost to himself.

>Alright listen, we can either go straight to Stronghurst and hope that it isn’t a pile of fucking rubble, or we can hit these occasional gas stations and pitstops.

“Fuck that, lets just get to Stronghurst. Abraham is waiting for us,” Andrew said, turning to look at you as he talked. “We could get there just in time to save it from some shitty fate.”

“Or because it has a population less than a fucking high school and it most definitely has hunters in it, it is perfectly fine” Peyton argued back, holding up his two fingers for some reason.

Well it’s come down to you to break the tie once again. Good thing there’s an odd amount of people here or nothing would get fucking done.

Quick hits though, focusing on gas. Most stores have gasoline containers inside, and we should grab all the stuff that can't be easily replaced due to the now lack-of-infrastructure.
>>
>>1510006
What's the gas situation btw? I remember we have, what, 30 galons reserve? And what's left in the tank.

>>1510031
This. Sweep and clear. If we find another vehicle with a... Less than prepared owner, double tap and load it up with our stuff. Form a convoy.
>>
>>1510060
Beast consumes 19 mpg city, probably 2x or 2.5x that highway, but we paid Abraham with the 30 gallon reserve, which is part of why I want to hit those stations for extra.
>>1510075
Thank you. Everyone tries to hold onto their humanity in these quests. We can do that once we know they have skills, can be trained to have skills, or have a stable sustainable community and home base.

30 extra gallons, and about 3/4 of a tank left. The Beast has 137 liters in it's tank, and gets 30 mpg on a Highway with no congestion.

>Alright Andrew, we’ll compromise. We’ll only hit the Gas Station with the lights on and the attendant there. Maybe the news hasn’t reached him yet. After all, we are pretty isolated out here.

“You fucking gambler, fine. We do need that gas for my beauty here, so we’ll find one with the lights on and someone inside.” Andrew grumbles as he rubs the steering wheel in an affectionate manner.

“It’s a bad idea guys.” is all Peyton adds to the conversation.

It takes only about half an hour to find a BP Gas Station with a Fuel Tanker out front with a man milling around it, seemingly either pumping gas in, or taking it out.

You pull into the parking lot in front of a pump, but keep the car on, You never know if you need to make a black getaway. You take your P90 while Andrew takes his Aug. Peyton stays in the back seat hiding, in case this is a ruse to try to hijack The Beast. The old man holds his hunting rifle and walks up to you.

“No gas for you boys, I have to apologize about that. With all the news going on, I’ve had to close up shop and get this fuel out of here. I’m taking it up to the cabin with my wife and our extended family until this all blows over. Best of luck to you boys.” The elderly man says with a smile, before turning back to his truck.

Look, man, you got a whole tanker and you're going to a cabin, you won't need it that much up there.

I'm sure we can come to an agreement, there's plenty, and we can't carry much more than a couple galons anyway in our rig. What do you say, let us take a couple canisters? This doesn't have to get ugly.

(I'm assuming he can clearly see Andrew's AUG, since, well, it's a AUG, can't really hide it)

Basicly, convincing him to let us take a couple canisters of it. It's pretty much what we would've taken anyway, there must not be that much space left in the truck for something like a barrel or more.

How much fuel do you need for your extended family? Don't you know how the fuel will go bad eventually? Why not try sharing the commodity, or cutting a deal, before letting it go to waste? We sure could use it with our gas hog.

“Now god dammit I told you that this fuel was for my family. I don’t know how long this mess is going to last and I am a father before an American. If you survive this mess, then when I open back up, you both will get free gas for life.” He tells both of you before turning back to walk to his tanker, full and ready to roll.

Andrew turns around to start walking to the Beast when your weapon raises and fires, almost if someone else was doing it. You fire off three shots, two hitting the man’s back and the other hitting the asphalt in front of him, breaking a chunk off. Andrew spins around with his gun out ready to shoot the old man that shot his friend when he was what really conspired.

>Oh shit, what did I just d-*BLAAARRRGGHHHH*

You just threw up all over your fucking shoes, you had just gotten them a week ago too. Andrew silently walks over to the old man, flips him over and digs into his pocket and grabs what you presume as keys. He tosses them into your vomit and walks back to the Beast. Peyton stayed inside the Beast the entire time.

Well fuck, it looks like you burned some bridges. You get into the truck and throw out the picture of the old man with his wife and a large gathering of people. There is food and drink on the table while a banner in the background reads, “Jorgen’s Family Reunion”. Yeah, today sure has sucked. And with that you are following the Beast to an unknown future.

Over the next couple of hours, you flip through the radio and hear reports of the dead coming back to life, the army bombing cities, priests claiming the end of the world, and a station that plays classic rock. Atleast someone is going out with the end of the world in style.
You get to Stronghurst at about 6 in the morning, after passing farmington and London Mills, both complete ghost towns. There is a sort of impromptu barricade with a few Big Rigs acting as a wall on the main street of town, while the smaller side streets are blocked with trucks. Andrew parks on the side of the street, and you find an empty lot a block ahead. Andrew walks away, presumably looking for Abraham.

Either way I think we make sure we did not just screw ourselves over that gas thing.

Technically, the beast and all the supplies in it are Andrew's, not ours. And we've been treating Peyton like shit since the begining, so we don't need him to betray us in the future or something (he could've taken the beast and drive away at any time when we left him in it all those times).

We must make sure we're cool with our allies.

We have a pretty useful set of skills too (doctor), so I guess we could make it on our own if we find a community in the future, but I think this character is not the "lone survivor" style.

Well shit, this has been a pretty fucked time, and you can’t even begin to wonder what’s going through his mind. Also, you have been treating him like shit lately, so it’s only for the best that you have some personal time with him. You walk over to the Beast and go to the door where Peyton is. He’s sleeping while leaning on Andrew’s bag as a sort of pillow. You push your hand into his side to wake him up, as you’ve always done since middle school.

“Ah fuck off Xavier, you scared the piss out of me. What do you want? You wanna shoot me for getting in the way of you counting your supplies?” He says with malice in his voice.

>No you fucking dick, we need to talk. You’re basically my brother and we’ve been through a lot of shit lately. Get your pistol and take a walk with me.

He grabs his pistol and hops out of the vehicle, shaking slightly in the morning chill. You walk through the streets of Stronghurst, as others walk by, weapons in hand, paying you no attention.

“So, what did you want to talk about then?” He asks, staring ahead.

After getting that nasty bit of business out of the way, you decide, first and foremost, to clean the hardened vomit off of your shoes. You also decide to take a nice little tour of the town while you’re at it. After seeing the veterinarian's clinic, the bank and the Grocery store, which all three have armed guards in front of, you find a hand pump by a house. As your pumping cold water over your feet, you realize it’s 7 in the morning and it’s kinda cold out. If you survived getting out of Chicago just to die from frostbite, you’re going to be fucking pissed.

But just your luck, because as you get finished trying to dry your feet and socks with a towel used for cleaning up oil, Abraham and Andrew walk out of a house, and they look like they’re in a conversation about the town. You throw down the towel and walk over to them. Andrew sees you and waves you over, and continues talking to Abraham.

“...I’m saying is that we don’t know what’s going on and we shouldn’t start shooting strangers in sight,” Andrew finishes up saying, and turns to you. “Alright Doc, you’ve met Abraham kinda. He was the runner for our ordnance inside of Chicago, hence why there were illegal guns in the Shop.” He finishes.

“Ah hell, I guess it doesn’t help to correct you. The world’s over anyway. It’s a pleasure to meet you finally, Doc. I also appreciate you fulfilling your promise, as we need all the men and guns we can get. However, I am EXTREMELY appreciative of that Gas Truck you brought with you. Tell me, how did you get that exactly?” He asks, as both him and Andrew look at you

>Lie. We found it empty at a gas station and filled it up and brought it to you as a thank you gift.
>Truth. I killed a man for it. He wasn’t listening to reason and I knew you had a town here hungry for fuel.
>Half truth. There was already a dead man and another dead man, both dead of gunshots. We just took the spoils.

> I won’t lie to you Abraham, I killed a man whose only crime was that he was selfish and he didn’t look out for his common man. Punish me if you want, but I did what I thought right.

He looks at you for a long time, it must have felt like hours. His steel hazel eyes like daggers, piercing you in a way no real metal ever could. Suddenly, he smiles though.

“I already knew that, son, Andrew filled me in on exactly what had happened. I just wanted to make sure I didn’t have to shoot you here on the spot for being a liar. That man committed a sin, just as you have. It isn’t my job to punish you, in fact the opposite. I have a very strong feeling that this “storm” isn’t going to blow over, it’s going to get worse. It’s people like you that are going to inherit the Earth. You are like a shepherd to the lambs.” He explains, using his hands like he is conducting a symphony, just in a slower and more drawn out manner.

He looks ready to bring up another topic when a young man with a pair of binoculars runs up to him.

“Abraham, we’ve got a military truck about 3 miles down the road, coming at a steady pace. The back is covered with a tarp, but it doesn’t seem like anything is wrong. Should we stop it?” Asks the young man, in a way a child might ask if he can use the bathroom at a public place.

“Of course. Send out Jared, Whitney, and yourself. Make sure there are a few men on the Semi too.” He orders, and the young man runs off. “Well Doctor, I am afraid we will have to resume this talk a little later, unless you want to walk over with me. That P90 looks menacingly enough.” He remarks, as he walks off with Andrew towards where 5 others are running to.

While playing soldier sounds fun, your realm of expertise is being the Good Doctor, not Rambo. You run back to the Beast, where Peyton is just climbing back in, no doubt for some rest after your interruption earlier. He hears you running and turns towards you, shutting the door as he knows that he isn’t getting sleep anytime soon.

>Alright Peyton we have work to do. We’re going to go over to Veterinarians clinic and set up a triage. If something goes wrong with the army out there, I want to start work immediately. Get your ass moving!

Peyton wordlessly does as he is told, used to these fast-paced medical emergencies that were all too common at the clinic. The two of you arrive at the Vet’s about two minutes later and there hasn’t been any shooting yet, so that’s always a good sign. You burst through the doors first and see a “plump” woman sitting behind the receptionist’s counter, reading a “People” magazine. You don’t bother to get the headline as you have actual important things to do.

>Alright lady, I don’t care if you’re the vet here or if you’re the fucking queen of Sweden, it’s time to do your job. I need the the rooms ready to receive and you need to point me to where you keep your supplies. Before you say something, if one of Abraham’s men die because of you, just think how upset he will be.

Well that was enough to get her moving. She pointed to her right, and ran left into one of the “operating” rooms, hopefully to get it ready. Peyton follows you with an empty duffel bag, ready to accept anything you put into it. The selection is to be expected for what this place is. There is the standard antibiotics, that thankfully aren’t labeled “For dogs only”. Doxycycline seem to make up the majority of antibiotics in the closet, while the rest of the space is taken up by needles, suturing, gauze, sterilizing equipment, and other miscellaneous medical supplies that could be used on humans if in an emergency. You have Peyton load up the bag with a little bit of everything and follow you out to the operating room where your new assistant was getting it ready. She was wiping down the tables with disinfectant and sterilizing the equipment you would need to operate on any mammal. Just in time too because just as you finished washing your hands and putting on your gloves, wounded men started pouring in, along with a healthy Abraham.

“Alright Doctor, we have wounded soldiers that we need to save. The general told us that none of them were bitten, just gunshot wounds and lacerations. I would keep one eye on your weapon over there though. Also, god thinking with this triage center. Come see me when your work’s done/ Abraham finished, not waiting for a reply as he walked out the door.

Well you have two assistants, one is a veterinarian, while the other could pass as a “rusty” doctor. It’s time to prioritize.

>A Lt. Gerber who has a gunshot in the arm but is deemed as a “walking wounded”
>Pvt. Ackerson who has a large cut on his leg and arm, bleeding has slowed but still coming at a steady pace. Unconscious

>Peyton, get Ackerson and get some alcohol on those cuts. Then I want them sutured and disinfected again. Lady, I need you to clean that cut. I don’t know how long it’s been bleeding and I don’t want him to go into Septic. Then suture the wound and give him those antibiotics on the table. Same goes for you Peyton!

Peyton and the Vet gets to work immediately. They know you have the first and last say in operating room, and you can’t help but smile at how fast they got to work. This kind of power makes you feel all tingly inside.

Whatever tone of voice you had used, or whatever image you are portraying, it works to get the other two “doctors” into action. They start disinfecting the wounds right away, just as well as you would have. They suture the wounds up quickly and effectively, just like a life depended on it, and it very well might have. You on the other hand, snap into a different mindset. Time seems to slow down as you grab the needed supplies and get to work on a man who should, in all rights, be dead, but your instincts overpower whatever force was taking him to meet his maker. You take out the bullet, stitched up the wound, disinfected the site and put gauze around his leg.

You snap out of whatever fugue state you were in and take a look at not only your work, but the work of your two new assistants. Not only will all 3 men survive, they will be ready to start moving in just a week, albeit a little slowly, and Peggy said Peyton and her will work on the Lt. in a few hours. Peyton leaves the room without a word, while the Vet, whose name is Peggy, sits down to take a breather. Peyton has his “end of procedure” ritual and it would be best not to interrupt him.

We should definetly talk to Abraham about reinforcing the perimeter around the town. Bringing in old vehicles and turning them on their sides, driving thick steel posts through the gaps in the frame and stacking sandbags behind them to form a crude barricade against vehicular and zambie assault

Maybe the military could shine some light

I think it would be better to put up walls/blockades around the most important central part of town, the fortifying the outlying houses. That way we could garrison men and light supply's inside them and keep the horse off the walls.

You need to get out into the cool morning air. No matter how well the surgery goes, you still get a little queasy every time. It kinda reminds you of when you found that first bag of money on the Clinic’s front steps after you treated that guy for a gunshot wound. You were scared shitless, but you went with your instincts and it paid off. Your supplies were “generously” paid for and all you had to do was not call the cops after you got done treating each gunshot or stab wound.

It’s only 8 in the morning so not a lot of people are up, besides the guards that are assigned to each car roadblock. It’s a funny little system they got set up here, but not efficient in the least. Sure they could stop a car on road, but what’s to stop people from just walking around it or through the fucking front yards. Jesus Christ this place is not safe in the slightest. You’ll have to bring this up with Abraham.

You take a walk down the “main street” of Stronghusrt to see what they have in terms of civilization. They have a Grocery Store, a Bank, a Post Office, a Fire Department, a Mechanics, a tire service, and about three separate buildings for buying farming supplies/equipment. You think that if you had to restart civilization, this isn’t a terrible place to do it at.

Other than that, Stronghurst is an insignificant town that has a much larger “city” to the west of it that could be a problem in the future, and plenty of cropland all around. After returning back to the “Hospital”, you see Abraham, Andrew, and another man in military fatigues who you don’t recognize walk out from the bank. They seem to be walking towards you. Oh shit, they are walking DIRECTLY towards you. You can only just stand awkwardly around until the trio arrive in talking distance.

“And speaking of the devil, there is the good Doctor himself. I trust you have good news for us then?” Abraham asks expectedly, putting his hand on your shoulder.

>It actually went amazing Abraham. Those soldiers, as long as they take their medicine, they should be completely fine in a few weeks.

The man who you assume to be the General smiles at you and turns to Abraham.

“Well hell, I guess I owe you one then. You don’t mind if I borrow the doctor here for a few minutes, do you?” The general asks, turning to Abraham.

Abraham gives a nod of his head and turns around, Andrew in tow. It looks like you’ll have to catch him at a different time.

“What do you know of what’s been happening, Doctor?” The general asks, staring straight ahead.

I recommend we try and raid any and all nearby gas stations, hunting shops, and supermarkets now. We don't have much time before all the food that can spoil will, and there isn't enough infrastructure left to produce advanced goods. I know that the Internet is going to go down, if it hasn't already, so we need to get as much information downloaded onto actual hard drives soon, otherwise, that information might be lost forever.

He stops for a few seconds and chuckles to himself.

“Hell, that’s what I thought someone like you would do. Hell, that’s what any sane person would do, you just made out better than 90% of the population. Your guesswork on what’s going on isn’t too far off either, so you keep the knowledge with you.” He turns to look directly in your eyes. “Don’t get bit, don’t get scratched, and I swear to god you better listen to these next few words, EVERYONE IS INFECTED. Even if they die of a gunshot wound, they will come back. I learned that lesson the hard way back in Chicago. Find me later and I’ll tell you what really happened in that fucking tomb of a city. Not now, though.” He said that last part quietly, almost like he was talking to himself.

That was your cue to leave the man to his thoughts. At least you managed to read his name off his uniform, “Tristus”. His parents must have had a fetish for Rome or something. You spot Abraham talking to Andrew and a few other men near the bank. Andrew sees you and waves you over. The men are hunched over a table that has a map of what seems to be the area around Stronghurst, about 60 miles or so.

“Alright Xavier, we have come to a consensus that whatever the fuck is happening is just getting started, so we are taking the initiative. We need people, construction materials, food, hell, if you can name it, we need it. Abraham thinks of you as a smart man, so he’s gotten you into his council. He wants to hear your pitches.” Andrew explains, as all 8 eyes turn to you.

We need to set up areas for crop production and water storage. Focus on low requirement frutis vegetables and grains (Squash, cucumbers, tomatoes, blueberries, sorghum, etc) for their ability to be stored and relatively high yield and fast growth. Get the hospital set up and a running inventory of what we have. Any citizen of the town that doesn't have a specific skill will be conscripted into defense or labor. Defense will be charged with building and maintaining the walls and other defenses (sniper towers, gates, etc) while labor will be in charge of basic maintenance and crop production around the town. Any abandoned houses around the town should be torn down and scavenged for resources to improve the fortifications.

Any horses/Dairy cattle/goats around the town should also be gathered into one area. One of the jobs of the labor teams will be to gather fodder for the animals by cutting grass around the town and planting small patches of alfalfa for the winter.

AS LITTLE LIVESTOCK AS POSSIBLE. Animals eat way more than they're worth. I Raise pigs. Trust me. Chickens, goats, horses max.

Begin forming sweep teams of 8 men. These will go out and scavenge the nearby areas, gathering tools, supplies, vehicles, fuel, weapons, anything the town needs. They will remain in CONSTANT radio contact with each other.

The town should be turned literally into a fortress city. High walls reinforced with buses, sandbags, tree trunks, etc. Only 2 points of entry maximum. The defenses should also be layered so we can fall back and seal off a area if we need to.

any other anons have any ideas?
>>
>>1513864
And another job for the defense teams is to go door to door DAILY and check on the inhabitants. Just make sure everybody is alive and nobody died and ate their family in the night. Doors are to remain LOCKED at night without exception. The punishment for this is a week on double shifts with reduced rations. We don't need people wandering around after dark or turning and wandering into other peoples houses

Anybody who gets bit is SHOT. immediately. IMMEDIATELY. Sweep teams are kept under Quarantine for 24 hours after they return just in case.

Alright, we need to get everyone here acquainted with these things before anything else:
Parkour
Blunt & Improvised Weapons
Driving & Jury-Rigging
Scavenging

The best places to hit right now are the Cole Implement, the Scott Equipment, the Cedar Pine Discount, and the Country Auto Sales. Once we clean those places up, we will have not only a fair amount of food to last until we get to self-sustainability, but also the tools and parts necessary to expand in the future.

>Alright, first and foremost is the fortification of the city. It doesn’t matter how much food we have if all it takes is one attack from a bandit group. Those cars out there won’t really stop shit, they’re probably just there to make people feel safer. Secondly, we are surrounded by farmland on all sides. Just a few of those fields could keep, what was it, 400 of us fed. However, we would need to get the farmers out there to plow the fields and everything that goes with it. Thirdly, we have to set up some sort of quarantine for people that get bit. They all don’t die, as in Andrew’s case, but I don’t want infected walking around. The last thing we need to get done soon is to seize all materials that could be useful to the group.

You finish and look around at the men that were previously listening to your “suggestions”. The only word that comes to mind is shocked, shocked that you would have such concise and logical plans. Or, you hope that’s why they looked shocked.

“Holy shit Doctor, if I’m not careful you’ll end up taking my job. Alright, I had already planned for three of those, except we are putting farming to the side for now and instead are going for just hitting grocery stores. Now, all it comes down to, is what team you want to be on.” Abraham says, before sliding three manila folders to you.

“That’s probably for the best. Right now the best building we have for you would be the empty warehouse. I’ll give you 15 guys to help you with the renovation, and you have the priority for construction until we get the wall material. So what do you need?” Abraham asks, as he scribbles a few things down on a notepad

All we need for safety are handcuffs and metal fram beds though. Not comfy, but safe incase they worsen.

Also we should stash most of our supplies of importance at the school. Cause most schools have concrete walls, frosted glass, flat roofs for gun posts, and metal frame glass filled doors that would be easy to convert to barred metal doors with some rifle slots in them.

However I think the bank would be a good place to make the defacto guard post/jail, with iron bars to either lock people in or be a secondly place to store weapons.

“Yeah, yeah I could do that. Alright, go find Bertha and tell her what you told me. She’s in charge of the construction materials and she’ll assign you the guys you need. Now if you’ll excuse me, I have some work to do.” He says, dismissing you with a wave of his calloused hand.

You walk over to what seems like a large rectangular warehouse. You enter the open door and see really only two things. One, are shelves stocked with misc. construction and house fabrication material, and two, a woman sitting behind a desk writing on a typewriter. Man, these guys get used to the lack of technology quick. That, or they never had it in the first place.

“Is there something I can help you with, young man?” she asks, without looking up from her typewriter

You tell her what you need, and that Abraham had ordered this “high priority” and within 4 hours, you had the men and the material needed. As you walk towards what’s going to be the future Quarantine, you see two groups of men headed in two different directions. They must be the two separate scavenging groups. Godspeed boys.

You waste no time getting to work, splitting the large floor of the warehouse into multiple small “rooms” with a cot, and a metal pole grounded in concrete to keep the people in place somehow. A translucent sheet is laid out as a sort of “door” so they have some sort of privacy. You’re not getting any medals for it, but it will serve it’s purpose. There’s also room to expand and add another 6 in the future. Right now though, ten is the maximum.

>>
The construction scavenging team returned with quite the bounty, suffice to say. They found Chainlink fence, the posts for it, and plenty of concrete mix. Abraham was ecstatic and ordered them to get to work as soon as they got out of Quarantine, all 8 of them. “I am just being safe” is what he called it, but if we wants more than one team of scavengers to go out, he’ll need to give you more supplies. However, what he wasn’t ecstatic about was how the Food Scavenger team was 5 hours late, then 8 hours, then full 12 hours.

Abraham cursed like a sailor at about 5 in the morning, after he realized they weren’t coming back. That leaves us with about 2 weeks of food if everyone has a meal 3 times a day. It certainly isn’t starvation time, but it’s not good to cut it close. You wake up on another beautiful Illinois morning and walk out of the house that has been given to you, Andrew and Peyton, who has been busy working with Peggy to heal the miscellaneous cuts and bruises that have appeared. Of course, that’s also another problem. Your supply of medicine is running out fairly quickly and within the next week you would need to go on a supply run so you have a surplus to go to in case a large medical emergency arises.

You don’t have anything to do exactly right now, so you could go talk to Andrew, find the General, explore, or go bring up an issue with Abraham. You also heard that Abraham needs people for some more scouting missions.

>Talk to Abraham about an issue/topic

Alright goys, I've decided to make a few decisions regarding the quest. Obviously there is an interest by a good number of players, and they are committed, so I want to make the quest as quality as possible.

To achieve that, I have decided to put more time into the general story arc I have, as well as really decide what kind of quest this is, so I don't incorrectly blend the genres in a shitty way. I also want to upload some things to pastebin and work on a map of the town you you guys know where certain landmarks are.

In order to not only achieve that, but to make sure I don't get burned out, and the players don't get burned out, I will be running every other day atleast. The break makes sure I can have ample planning time, the quest has cohesion to it, and you guys look forward to me running because it's more of a "specialty". Tomorrow I will be working on the maps and story, and I'll have some votes on how you guys want it structured.

When I come back Wednesday, we will have a new thread and I should know how I want this quest to go. I thank you all for your enjoyment and I hope to see you Wednesday. If someone would archive, I would be very grateful for it.

>However, what he wasn’t ecstatic about was how the Food Scavenger team was 5 hours late, then 8 hours, then full 12 hours.
>Abraham cursed like a sailor at about 5 in the morning, after he realized they weren’t coming back.

Could we go on a potential rescue mission for the missing Food Scavenger team?

>>1515167
That's fine.

You would have to convince Abraham, as he sees the team as lost

Hitup the Country Auto Sales and the Scott Equipment. They are about 4 and 6 miles north on Route 116 respectively.
Or we could try our luck and head into Burlington to see what is there.
>>

>Burlington
There you go, now you're using the map for what it's intended for. Burlington is very large though, so it would have to be fairly well organized, like what store to go to and which streets to use. I give bonuses to specificity

Alright, since we don't know what's going on, I would have us take the Beast.

We would take 34 across the Mississippi, and exit onto southbound Bluff Rd/Main St, making for the Sheriff's Office. This will likely determine exactly how good or bad the situation in the city is. If the city is in good condition with a high level of order, try and start establishing civilization again, with them acting as a hub, and us as the now main food provider.

If the city is now a ruin, then we move to plan B, Scavenging.
Once this has been done, we would head towards the Public Library and get as many books as we can about farming, the region & its weather, and trades as we can, followed by historic/scientific journals and novels for entertainment.

After looting the Sheriff's and the Library of all items of value, I would have us evaluate how the situation is. If we can, I would then go from the Library to Schupick Automotive to get tools and parts. Once we scoop out/loot the location, we head for the Walgreens and clear that out of all the consumable medical supplies (that will eventually run out) via Division.

After the Walgreens comes GunsRX via Central Ave onto Washington, which leads to Holstein, then Agency, Gunison and Patterson. If that doesn't pan out, we head to the Gun and Loan, followed by the Hotrod shop.

In addition, we will have an additional car(s) (a quiet hybrid or a fast truck with a large amount of storage space) taking people skilled in stealth and/or scavenging to loot the restaurants of their food and tools, such as knives, pots, pans, and cooking utensils are all hard to make. They would also go to the local gas stations and siphon what they can.

After the vehicles have been filled, we take the convey back across the river via 34, with the Beast acting as lead.

How hard would it be to convince him? Where did the Food Scavenger team go before they went MIA?
>>
>>1515767
Perfect. Make sure you save that somewhere for the next thread. I am sure the majority will agree with this plan. Although that might take a few trips

>>1515770
Well the food team went to Burlington, where you guys are going for medicine, so I am sure you could explain that you "hit two birds with one stone"

>>1515799
>>1515774
>>1515767
Sweet, do you think we could try searching for the Food Scavenger team while on our scouting run? I'm guessing they'll likely have gone to the places you mentioned?
>>
>>1515804
If the majority want to look for them, then sure. But you might not like what you find.
>>
>>1515799
Just archive this one.
>>
>>1515932
I'm going to do it after I take care of some things today. Busy day.
>>
Alright it sounds like I will be running an hour later just for this week, so it will be 3 CT
>>
>>1517273
So when will this next updoot/thread be?
>>
>>1518035
Tomorrow at 3 CT in a new thread. I feel a little refreshed so the writing should be a lot better
