Stage 155: Sure it makes sense, just not to anyone that matters.

There are a great many mysteries in your life.

While with most people this would indicate a kind of life that invites strangeness and would be more of a spiritualist's existence than that of a extraordinarily talented assassin and bodyguard, in your case it means that you're not really paying attention to the things that would have helped you solve the mysteries in question. All too often the mysteries in your life are a result of other people deliberately keeping you in the dark.

Hisaka Subaru is one pf the mysteries that is actually mysterious.

Subaru-kumo-san is a rarity in your life, a mysterious person who is mysterious by her very nature and not because she deliberately tries to be obtuse, unpredictable, or is being a secretive threat. You know she lives in Ura-Harajuku and has for most of her life. You know that her last name really is Hisaka rather than what you would expect to be her first name. You know she's the daughter of a spider youkai or a relative of one, but not a jorugumo. You know she works and lives as a seamstress in Harajuku because there isn't really any life for her anywhere else.

And that's really all you do know.

You don't know how old she is, what she likes to eat, what sort of person she likes to cuddle with, how she ended up the way she did, who she has as friends, if she has any enemies, and really, you know not very much. This is taking into account all your skills as a researcher, investigator, sneaky sort of person, and friendly kind of girl. She's nearly – nearly – all business, all the time.

Oh, there is one other thing that you do know....she doesn't mind you visiting her shop. Which is apparently something of an accomplishment. So perhaps you do count as a friend. She's never said so, but that's as good a guess as you have.

That you are brining Er Yin-sensei and Kiku-saishi-chan to her place of business is not just because you are curious as to what they make of her, but to teach Kiku-chan a lesson about things that she tends to assume about your view of the world. You've already exposed her to one of the strange parts of your childhood, and this is another. This one, however, is a little different, and not just because it's part of your childhood. This one is different because Subaru-kumo-san is a peculiarity in a peculiar world.

[] Give them a gentle warning about the person they're about to meet.
[] Let them see for themselves from start to finish.
[] Ask how much either of them know about spider youkai of any sort.
[] Explain that this is someone's place of business and possibly a home as well.
[] Warn Kiku-chan that she will need to keep her temper in check here more than most places.

It'll kind of spoil the surprise, but I'm not sure if we should aim for a surprise in the first place? On the other hand, it could give them a false impression of what Subaru is like.

[XX] Explain that this is someone's place of business and possibly a home as well.
[X] Warn Kiku-chan that she will need to keep her temper in check here more than most places.

As you walk through the alleys in the back of Harajuku, Er Yin's hand in yours, you murmur softly. “Subaru-kumo-san lives in her workshop, so bear in mind that it is both a residence and a workplace. She doesn't go out at all, and I'm not certain that it is just because of her body. It could be she just doesn't like people that much, but I don't think that's the entire reason.”

“Why is this spider person one of your special people, aniki?” asks Kiku, as she follows close behind you and Er Yin. The use of a middle-honorific is a peculiarity you have, one that doesn't make much sense to other people. It does have a meaning, but you have a hard time explaining it to anyone, so you don't especially bother. Sometimes you can barely understand it yourself.

“Well, if there is a seamstress to be my rival in all Shibuya and Harajuku alike, it would be Subaru-kumo-san. But she's not really a rival – our styles are so completely different you can't really compare them at all. Which is only to be expected of Subaru-san.” You glance back, and she looks at you with those wide golden eyes of hers. “And you can't lose your temper at all in here. I'll keep my teasing to a minimum also.” She narrows her eyes at you. “Even as powerful as I am, a room full of flaming napalm is a kind of disaster that can't really be planned for, you know?”

Kiku-chan's eyes widen comically, and she nods slowly.

“You mentioned her before, Ryukusa-sama....what kind of spider youkai was her parent?” Er Yin's curiosity is gentle, and unusual in that it is an impolite question. Still, Subaru-kumo-san is unique even by the standards of youkai-born.

You hesitate and then consider carefully. “I don't know about the spider youkai much, but I am pretty sure she isn't a jorogumo-born. Everything I've read suggests that they tend to be pretty much unlike her, but I'm not that much a scholar either. Most of my information comes from manga and anime and they don't cover much outside of jorogumo.”

“Because jorogumo are sexy,” complains Kiku-chan, as she follows you and Er Yin down an even more narrow ally from the ally you used to be in. You have to travel in single file, as you approach the glass door with the beaded curtains that announces 'Ariadne's Weaves'.

You open the door for Er Yin and step inside the rather cramped shop, which has a multitude of racks which are fairly tall. One of the shop-girls, a half-Japanese high schooler from the look of her, smiles and greets you, her eyes flicking over your outfits with a measure of awe and perhaps a touch of envy. “Good afternoon! Welcome to Ariadne's. How may I assist you today?”

Yoriko peeks around the rack, and she smiles brightly. “Ah, Ryukusa-sensei!” Kiku-chan gives you an inquiring look and you studiously ignore her. Slipping around the racks, Yoriko quickly makes her way to the new girl's side, and bows. You bow back, and smile warmly. “Kanako-chan is new, please excuse her!”

“Nothing to excuse, Yoriko-chan,” you murmur softly; Kanako blushes while Yoriko beams and grins wide, while you feel heat radiating from behind you. “Yoriko, Kanako, these are my dear friends Long Er Yin, and Matagama Kiku.” The two girls bow, though Kanako is confused despite her smile.

[] Let the girls show your lovers about the shop while you check the racks.
[] Excuse yourself and have your lovers accompany the girls while you go speak to Subaru.

[XXX] Ask how Subaru is doing today.
[XX] See if your lovers would prefer to look around first or meet Subaru first.
[X] Ask Yoriko if she would show Er Yin and Kiku the specialty section.

“How is Subaru-san doing today?” you ask mildly, and Yoriko gets a nervous look, while Kanako looks confused but manages to look both attentive and politely ready to assist. Yoriko's understandable glance at your lovers is met with a slow nod and an encouraging smile from you and she visibly relaxes.

Yoriko leans forward, her inventory clipboard held in both hands. “Miss Hisaka is doing well today, though she is a bit listless. Umi-can is making tea for her now, which will be ready shortly, if your friends and yourself would enjoy some!” You and Kiku-chan both nod, while Er Yin politely demurs, not willing to risk tea in an unfamiliar environment, you suspect. You heart sinks a little as she tells you who is making tea. It would be a coincidence...but really, what hasn't been in the past few weeks?

Tracing kanji into Er Yin's hand, you gesture to Kiku-chan as well, receiving immediate answers to your discrete inquiries. “Yoriko-chan, Er Yin-sensei would enjoy being introduced to the specialties section; Kiku-chan would probably find it interesting as well, if you don't mind. I'd like to meet Umi-sama” She gives you an odd look, and it confirms what you suspected, and you carefully school your expression.

Which doesn't stop Kiku-chan from noticing something is wrong immediately, but she at least allows you to continue as though nothing is unusual.

“Of course, Ryukusa-senpai!” You slip around her – carefully taking no liberties – and let her and Kanako-chan take your loved ones to the specialties section, where you have no doubt at all they will find several things to put in shopping bags for you to carry. In the mean time you make your way to the tiny desk, and look into the little office behind it, verifying your suspicions when you spot a carefully tied and knotted tail of soft gold jutting out from the plaid skirt of Kodachi Umetsumi as she makes tea for the proprietress.

[] Slip into the office and shut the door – this should be private.
[] Wait for her to acknowledge you....or not.
[] Announce yourself quietly and politely.
[] ….slip away and go see Subaru while everyone is distracted; you can wait for her there.
[] Rejoin your loved ones since she hasn't noticed you yet and prepare yourself while you have a chance.

I think she deserves that we announce ourselves. If she acknowledge us afterward is her prerogative, but we shouldn't put her in the position of "I won't acknowledge you you if you ignore me"
>>
>>1473380
That's fair, if less fun.
>>1473352

>>
>>1473386
... anon, none of those choices are about cheerfulness or teasing.

Like, literally none.

That's why I switched, after all. But they ARE ways to have fun with her.
>>

>>

>>
>>1473402

They know we met her and that she was an old school friend. They probably know we got wounded while meeting her, but that's it.

>>1473390

The fun is not for now.
>>
>>1473408
Hopefully things won't get too awkward afterwards then.
>>
>>1473411

Hopefully.
>>
>>1473411
>>1473421
Let's just count it as a victory if she doesn't stab us again.
>>
>>1473423

I think she's past that, but eh.
>>
[XX] Slip into the office and shut the door – this should be private.
[X] Announce yourself quietly and politely.

You hop over the counter and slip into the office – you've been in here before, many times, usually to have tea and discuss trends and innovations with the shop girls and Yoriko, who has been the only constant aside from Subaru-san herself. That Umetsume is also here is a little bit....no, a lot of a surprise.

Shutting the door behind you, you note that Himegami-no-Kodachi – sheathed of course – is leaning up against the lockers off to the side, but not so far away she can't reach it quickly. You close the door and lean against it, glancing at the cameras to see how your loved ones are doing with their shopping. Yeah, that's going to be at least two bags for you to carry all right. That's okay, it's traditional. And who knows, you might get to see something new and sexy on Er Yin.

Smiling, you duck your head as Umi-san sets up the tea service. Before she picks it up you speak up softly. “I didn't really expect to see you here of all places. By that I mean Shinjuku, not here, specifically.” She controls the jump that you startle her into beginning, and she turns around, looking at you with a carefully neutral expression. “You look well, Umi-san.” She does too, aside from the faint flush of embarrassment at being startled.

“How do you do that, Ryukusa-san?” she asks equally softly, though you've tried to explain it before.

“The world is steady and soft around me, and the wind carries nothing for me away to others. It is just like breathing for anyone else: I am silence and stillness, and the world embraces me....” The last words of the poem fail to emerge, and she looks down. “I only came to see Subaru-kumo-san and introduce her to a special member of my family. Not that they aren't all special, but they have things in common.” She lifts her head, looking at you curiously. You note the distinct absence of badges on her vest, and decline to mention it.

Naturally, being Umetsume-chan, she notices your noticing. To your surprise she explains softly, “When I left the clan to make my own way, they took my standing. They couldn't take Himegami from me though – she refused.” you look down at the floor, and she does as well, which tells you the rest of the story.

“So they wanted you to find me?”

She nods silently.

“But Himegami refused to part with you despite your defiance.”

Another nod.

You look her in the face and she fidgets, ever so slightly, her tail twitching in the heavy bow. “And you're okay with that?”

She hesitates and then turns around and picks up the tea service. You open the door for her, noticing that she leaves Himegami where she is. Umetsumi pauses as she steps up to where you stand out of her way, and her ears lower, but not back; they tilt forward, as she lowers her head.
>>
>>1473449
Damn, had to leave the clan huh. That's rough.
>>
>>1473449
So her family's ancestral weapon favors her more than the family it belongs to? Neat.
Also, mildly sad that we seem to be continuing the trend of bringing hardship into her life, but I'm grateful for her rebellion.

I forget, how many of the Seven Sisters/Swordswoman do we seem to have recruited already, I'm pretty sure it's at least at three, but could be as high as five
>>
>>1473449
“I am okay with that,” she murmurs very softly, as you look down at the floor.

She slips past you as your heart beats quickly in your chest, a great relief flooding through you.

“I remember when you told me your truth,” you murmur, and she slows, then stops, her ears lifting slightly.

“Do you?” she asks softly, a faint blush crossing her cheeks.

“What I said then is still true,” you tell her, your tail sliding back and forth behind you.

She doesn't say anything for a moment, but her ears rise, and she stands a little taller. “I'm glad,” she whispers, almost silent.

You smile as she walks to the back of the shop to the stairs there, and sigh when you hear your lovers and the shop girls returning. Her clan may have it out for you, but the fact that she doesn't, and that her sword doesn't, means the world to you. You turn and smile at the others, and Kiku studies you suspiciously and you give her a minute shake of your head. She relaxes and you look over the glorious things they have to show you later.

Umetsume-san returns as Yoriko is ringing you up, and you don't acknowledge each other visibly....but there is a softer space between you now.

[XX] Introduce Umetsumi to your loved ones.
[X] Ask Yoriko to let Subaru know you have friends who would like to meet her.
[+] Let Umetsumi know you're thankful and happy – but discretely.

You lean close and whisper to Yoriko, “Could you please ask Subaru-san if I may introduce her to my family?” Yoriko's eyes light up and she glances at Kiku-chan and Er Yin with renewed interest and curiosity, undoubtedly wondering how in heaven you could possibly be related to a Chinese woman and a delicate Ainu girl, but she nods agreeably.

“She'll be glad to see you, I'm sure!” You nod and step back, as Kanako slips into the back room and Yoriko not-quite-dashes to the stairs.

Umetsume-san starts towards the back office as well, but you speak up. “Er Yin-sensei, Kiku-chan....this is Kodachi Umetsume, a dear friend whom I am both indebted to and is very precious to me.” You bow fairly deeply, gesturing to make the introduction. Umi-chan is a little surprised, but politely turns and bows to your loved ones.

“It is a pleasure to meet you,” she murmurs formally.

Er Yin bows back, carefully, and speaks in a slightly less formal and friendly manner. “Long Er-Yin, seer and sorceress for Ryuu Ryukusa.” You blinks, startled by the rather open introduction.

“I am Matagama Kiku, half sister to Kumatori Kiki, and priestess to Ryuu Ryukuza.” She bows and then looks up at the young woman. “Did she deserve to be stabbed?” Her pointed question is totally sincere.

Kiku rocks forward as Er Yin swats her in the back of the head with her tail, making the delicate dragon stagger. “That was uncalled for.” She gives her master a glare, and rubs the back of her head.

“It is all right,” Umetsume quickly interjects as you try and figure out whether you should face-palm or just jump off the roof and end it all. As if that might work. She takes a deep breath, and then looks down at the diminutive dragon. “She believes that she did, and I believed that she did as well. It is done with, and we have put those things behind us now, Kiku-sama.” She bows again, and you smile with a touch of embarrassment. You do catch the faint smile on Umetsumi's lips though.
>>
>>1473604
Kiku nods. “She is an idiot, but a good intentioned idiot.” Umetsumi is startled by your priestess' announcement, and then softly chuckles, hiding her mouth behind her hand. Kiku-chan bows again. “Thank you for taking care of my idiot sister in law.” You sigh and cover your face, but the soft smile is nearly audible in Umi-chan's reply.

“You are very welcome, Kiku-sama.” Umetsumi slips into the back room as Yoriko comes out of the stairwell and nods surreptitiously to you before she goes to greet a new customer.

You take Er Yin's hand and guide her towards the stairs. “I am so going to make you drink bitter tea until you vomit, Kiku-chan,” you grumble softly.

“That is not a good idea, Ryukusa-sama,” advises your sorceress. “She's too far along to be vomiting anything other than molten rock.”

Straightforward and to the point. I'd say "dammit, Kiku!" but I suspect she had a good reason to ask that question.

Why does Ryukusa believe she deserved to get stabbed again? Is it due to her bringing up a very shameful subject instead of leaving it go unsaid?
>>
>>1473644
Because she killed Umetsume's brother in cold blood. Her reasoning isn't important, the act itself is what is shameful.

[XX] Should I even ask why you did that, Kiku-chan?

“Considering that might not necessarily stop me, I suppose alternatives should be considered,” you murmur tapping the step with the back of your heel to let Er Yin know there is a step there. Er Yin is smiling, thought she runs the tip of her toe up the step to the flat, and then to the next step while still holding your hand (although not for balance, you're absolutely certain). She frowns faintly but slowly makes her way up the rather narrow steps. “Well, the proprietress doesn't need them, you see,” you explain to Er yin, who smiles in a rather bemused manner. “what would you recommend, Er Yin-sensei? Surely not washing her mouth out with soap.”

Kiku mutters a soft, 'not likely', but Er Yin glances back at nothing. “Kiku.” The delicate dragonette mutters to herself more quietly. “I would recommend a spanking,” Er Yin comments as she carefully works her way up the stairs, a response that had Kiku looking very alarmed, “But she might seem to delicate for you to enjoy that. Perhaps being tied up and forbidden to enjoy herself....” Kiku actually almost looks hurt at that.

“I'm not certain about the spanking, no....but I doubt tying her up will last long. What the heaven were you thinking asking her that, Kiku-chan?” You reach the door at the top of the stairs and open it for Er yin, but you step inside ahead of her to guide her way.

“If she sees that your hot-tempered priestess approves of her actions, then she will not fear any other member of clan Ryuu judging her harshly or seeking revenge for the act of harming you, aniki. It is very difficult for spirit children to think of anyone or anything more hot tempered and prone to overreaction than a Fire dragonette.” Kiku steps into the room and then blinks several times as she takes in the place.

“I sometimes forget how old you are,” you admit to the delicate dragonette, her wisdom making sense after the fact. “I thought you were perhaps angry that someone might have done harm to your otousan, kasan.” The glare that earns you is cut short by the voice from above, and she quickly damps any heating of her body or blood.

“She does not sound very old,” the soft, breathless voice of Hisaka Subaru wafts from near the ceiling.

You look up at the young woman who seems to be hanging suspended by the waist from an intricate hammock. “Oh, she is. Over one hundred and fifty. An absolute geriatric.” Subaru-kumo-san smiles and place both hands over her pleated gothic skirts and bows towards you and your loved ones. “Hisaka Subaru, Matagama Kiku, mother of my child; Long Er Yin, my seer and sorceress. You share a trait in common with her.”

A half dozen legs move the heavy brown and black tiger-striped body in the flimsy looking net that holds Subaru-san suspended above the solid-sided work benches that take up most of the floor space. “Well, I will greet her properly in a moment then. But I was under the impression you were a girl, Ryukusa-san....has something changed that I was not aware of, or have you always had a peculiarity of voice?”

Er yin laughs softly as Kiku-chan is taken aback by the revelation. “I can assure you that Ryukusa-sama is quite a woman, and would undoubtedly enjoy demonstrating that fact with any available female that she happens across,” she adds, clearly teasing as well.

Wincing, though neither of the people in question take notice, you plaintively explain. “When you say it like that, it makes me sound like I'll have sex with just anybody, Er Yin-sensei.”

“My apologies, Ryukusa-sama,” Er Yin says with almost passable sincerity.

Subaru-san looks worried. “You sound different Ryukusa-san....may I see you?”

“You may,” you acquiesce to the mixed spider-human youkai-child. Kiku stares as the spider body steps out of the hammock and carries the girl-figure that seems immobile from the waist down over to you. The spider legs stand atop the cabinet-tables, while leaning far, far forward to let the beautiful doll-like girl lift her hands to your face. You're not sure if it's the terrifying body that has paralyzed Kiku-chan....

….or the fact that the proprietress of Ariadne's weaves is entirely blind.

As Ryukusa explained to Kiki, a Water dragonette almost always kills in cold blood, and it tends to be their first and most common reaction to violence. Ryukusa had other options, but chose to kill instead of main, wound, or get help. Since it was unsanctioned, it was also murder.

>>1473801
The spider abdomen and legs extend from the middle of Subaru's back, and her front legs and waist seem immobile or paralyzed (at least so far, she merely hasn't moved them as she usually uses her other legs to support her body). so she is not a spider-centaur like most people export, but has two disparate bodies that are connected at her back.

XS, is Seido-no-Shinpi-Tekina-Ken linked to the Sword of Goujian?

To me it seems they do share something.
>>
>>1475569
They do share something, in that they were made in the Chinese style using unusual compositions, but the actual provenance is Ame-no-Ohabari; it was used by Izanagi to kill one of his offspring, and from the blood sprang several deities.

Needless to say she is a weapon of incredible antiquity and power, though she told Ryukuza herself that she was designed to create things, not kill.

The feather light touches travel across your face slowly, Subaru-san's delicate touch light enough that it could tickle the unprepared. It reminds of you spiderwebs floating in the air, or soft puffs of kitten breath across your face. Her fingers travel from where your horns pull your hair back – and she only touched the bases of your horns rather than the entirety, because she is very polite about that sort of thing – across your forehead, down your cheeks....and then they pause as they drift under your eyes.

Opening them you look at her as she gazes blankly through your head, her gaze even more faraway than Er Yin's since her eyes are far less human. Where Er Yin's eyes still twitch faintly, reacting to noise and her attention ever so slightly, there is no movement from the youkai-born seamstress' eyes at all. The memory of function is not theirs to be disturbed by, as she has always been blind. Someone else would be hard pressed to notice the difference.

Luckily, you're not someone else!

Kiku-chan watches in fascination as you allow Subaru-san to 'see' your face, and the not-jorogumo's child mouths words slowly, as she traces your cheeks....words that were written by a Goddess. Her expression lights up, and she whispers softly, “A miracle.”

[X] Take her hands and see if Amaterasu-Omikami will let you suggest how to call upon her to your friend.
[X] Well, in a manner of speaking, sure.
[X] She was beautiful and miraculous, but I would hesitate to call what is happening to me a miracle.

The tracery of the delicate kanji upon your cheeks tingles as Subaru touches them, the words apparently 'visible' to her touch even though you can't feel anything when you touch them. Then again her hands are much more sensitive than yours, or anyone else you have ever met. You gently take them, and hope that you can be permitted to 'speak' of your visitation in this special way, because you doubt Subaru will ever learn of it from anyone else. It was a stray suggestion from someone else that lead to your meeting with Amaterasu-Omikami, after all.

Even as you speak, your thumbs trace swift katakana – rather than your usual hiragana – along her delicate palms. She shivers a little as you do so, undoubtedly ticklish, but your words keep Kiku-chan occupied long enough that she doesn't catch your silent suggestion that she take some time and pray in the morning. “I suppose it would seem like a miracle to most people, yes, but unfortunately it's mostly been a whole lot of trouble. The people the warnings are meant for don't care, and the people who would be in awe of them don't usually get to see them.” You lower your hands and she 'steps back,' her spider-like body pulling her human one back along the workstation to sit with her legs limply dangling off the edge as she smooths her skirt into place.

“Still, it must have been a wonder to meet her,” she says, as her larger body settles in place. The scene makes Kiku-chan look a little distressed, and you don't blame her. She is by far one of the strangest youkai-children you've ever met. Er Yin, of course, is mostly listening, her tail slowly swaying back and forth.

“Well, if I were to be honest, Amaterasu-Omikami....would be a wonderful, beautiful person to meet, and she would certainly be a miracle to behold, if one could do so.” You feel the pressure starting and you decide to avoid further discussion of the subject; the Sun does seem to have given you at least a little leeway with her restrictions in this one case. But then again, you can't think of anyone who deserves it more, all things considered. “Really, the things happening to me and around me are much more like a curse, and they're not really a good thing for everyone concerned, even if they are necessary. I'd much rather be at home cuddling my wife or making babies.”

Er Yin can't help but laugh at that, while Kiku-chan mutters at you. “Hentai dragon. Chikan. Ecchi.” Subaru-san politely hides her smile as you sigh.

“Ah, right. Er Yin is blind as well, Subaru-san, and I was wondering if you would mind terribly showing her some of your special work.” You step aside and lean over, taking Er Yin-sensei's hand and guiding her to where Subaru-san is sitting. You take Subaru-san's hand and guide it to Er Yin's. Once they touch, Er yin blinks and makes a soft, surprised noise as Subaru takes the massive talons in both her tony hands and starts exploring carefully, her mouth a soft moue of surprise.

Kiku-chan watches curiously as the pair of them seem to caress and gently touch each other's hands. There is one awkward moment when Subaru reaches up to touch Er yin's face and accidentally brushes her bosom. It's an understandable mistake, Er yin is impressively endowed. Er Yin's cheeks color, while Subaru's eyes widen comically. “My goodness,” she murmurs, before continuing to reach up.

You struggle very hard to contain your laughter, while Kiku-chan counts to ten under her breath.

[X] Gently remind Kiku of her faux pas concerning blind people using touch-communication.

You step back to the wall near where Kiku-chan is standing, an slowly run your hand through her incredibly soft hair. She closes her eyes and lowers her head without thinking, accepting the petting as is her nature and desire. “As I said, this particular disability is not unknown in Harajuku. A lot of Subaru's work is actually not meant for people to look at.” Kiku-chan's temperature rises a little, but she keeps it under control; you don't know if spiderwebs are actually as flammable as the stories, movies, and television shows say, but you really don't want to find out. Er Yin and Subaru are silent as they gently, almost delicately explore one another's faces, the massive silver talons nearly covering all of the youkai-born's face while the dragonette's face is barely touched by those incredibly gentle fingertips.

“You are right, aniki. I apologize. This is not the world I was born in, and I have been out of the secular world for much longer than I should have been. Things have changed drastically over the years.” You shiver a little, the lost centuries haunting you even now. You couldn't imagine what it would have been like to have lost those years here as well.

Subaru speaks up, and you settle on the floor as she rises, her human legs dangling uselessly as she is lifted by her spider-body to move to the wall of storage cubbies on one wall. “There is talk of a law that allows same sex couples to be certified as married in Shibuya, Ryukusa-san. If your wife is not already married, perhaps you will do so here? I would love to make you a bridal gown.” You color, the idea of wearing a dress at your wedding not really one you had considered. You also note that Subaru-san is aware that your wife and the fact that Kiku is mother of your child are in fact separate things. Kiku glances at you and then traces your calf with the soft fur of her tail-tip as you stroke her hair.

“I suppose it would be rude to make my own wedding outfit,” you muse, settling seiza on the floor against the wall and out of the way. Kiku-chan remains standing, as the counter-tops are too tall for her to see well if she were sitting, and there are no chairs in this room. Subaru gathers several bolts of cloth and Kiku moves closer, though she does keep a wary eye on the long brown and yellow legs of your hostess as she moves back to the other counter-tops, her human body half-held over one of them as she lays out the bolts of cloth with her human hands and arms. “Honestly I had not considered a dress.”

“It would be a most definite coup to have you in one of mine, I admit, and that would be no small coup,” she admits, and you grin at your rival, knowing she can't see it. “I make these to special order only, so I only have very small samples for you to experience,” she tells Er Yin, who makes an interested noise. Subaru's unusual wording catches Kiku's attention and she blinks, frowning at the simple white bolts of shimmering silk. Her tail lashes slowly, and she looks confused. “I've placed three samples at the end of the counter top, left to right from where you stand, Er Yin-sama.”

The solid construction of the counters is a simple necessity for the spider-girl; they not only prevent things from rolling under them, when dropped, they allow guests to touch them and slide their hands up without endangering the stability of the counter. Er Yin does so and slides her talons carefully over the shimmering cloth. Her expression starts bemused, but then becomes confused, and you smile as her eyes widen and she smiles brilliantly. “Kiku-chan, come touch this.”

Obediently, she does so, and you grin as she looks frustrated as first, then closes her eyes to help focus her sense on what she is touching. When she feels it, her expression becomes awestruck and she lets out a soft gasp. You play idly with the grossly more obvious embroidery on your dress as they follow the invisible patterns woven into the silk, discovering the dragons, trees, entire scenes hidden in plain sight upon the most finely woven silk in the world. The next one causes Kiku-chan to exclaim, and she guides Er Yin's hand over the silk, and she too gasps in delight at the story unfolding under her talons, much to Subaru's pleasure.

Not only because it shows what a nervous wreck you seem to be (you aren't) but because it would distract both Er Yin and Kiku, to say nothing of Subaru-san. You study the floor as you slip a hand into Nowhere and pull out your camera. You don't generally like using your phone camera because it is both attacked to a phone, and because you don't trust them all that much. Akari has proven time and time again that phones can be a serious liability.

It doesn't take you too long to find them, even though you are not using any of the Eyes that you could use; the faintest of shines, the barest glint, and the most subtle of glimmers is enough. The floor is crisscrossed in fine filaments, such that even Kiku's delicate little feet would step on at least two of them. They aren't sticky, but rather woven into the firm carpeting, both kept in place and hidden by the thicker, heavier fibers and the soft neutral tone of the carpeting. You can't see where they lead up the walls from a distance, but they undoubtedly lead to the hammock above, and you would bot be terribly surprised to fine similar threads on the steps outside this room.

You pull out the camera with relative ease, and while Kiku-chan and Er Yin are studying the third bolt of fabric, you silently take a picture of the trio; Subaru is immensely pleased to have someone who can appreciate the amazing work she does, while Kiku-chan is obviously thrilled at the prospect of finding something unique and so well suited to her master. Er Yin is marveling at the techniques and skills involved in such simple fabrics given great complexity and artistic works, and you smile as you place the camera back into Nowhere.

It seems like an interminable forever, but finally you rise as the couple pick out some fabrics less amazing but no less beautiful or skillfully worked, clearly intending you to create something for one or the other of them. Subaru carefully places them in protective tubes lined with plastic to protect the silk. “Subaru-san, I was wondering if you ever managed to develop a blade-proofed cloth? I understand they are using synthetic silks for it, but you have the real thing to work with.”

“I have, yes, but they only work against piercing, no different than the older techniques manage. They can still help, but they're by no means a method of invulnerability.”

You tap your finger to your lip and then nod slowly. “If you can manage one that will protect against draw cuts, I will purchase all the wedding dresses for my clan from you personally in the next week. I only need about sixteen inches long and two and one quarter inches wide, with an embroidered edge and a slide fastener . Better yet, make it eighteen inches and a dual slide, so that I can adjust the lengths of the ends of the choker.”

Er Yin seems confused, but Kiku-chan realizes it's purpose instantly. “That will be perfect, aniki.” A choker made of silk that would prevent at least one draw cut would be an advantage to you that could give you at least a chance to survive a surprise attack at one of your very few remaining vulnerable points.

Subaru looks confused, and mouths the word, and you sigh. “Better not to ask, but for some reason most of my clan sees me as their boss that way. It's my best friend's fault, really.” She smiles and bows at the waist, her spider's body lifting up to tilt the human body at the torso, her legs remaining limp as she 'bows'. “In fact, go ahead with the orders I've already made first, then we can follow up the rest. They seemed to like the work you've done.”

Er Yin is pleasantly surprised, while Kiku-chan's hair starts to rise. You immediately surround her with freezing air and she gasps and half collapses into your waiting arms, the movement so quick and sudden Subaru practically leaps backwards across half the length of the room onto another set of counter-tops, her spider-legs splayed, and her human arms and legs wrapped up and tightly palled against her chest (which gives you a glimpse of frilly white panties and what promises to be a cute bottom). Er yin's body is loose and relaxed, but her tail has risen high, and her hands are spread wide and low, ready to defend or attack as needed.

Far more important is soothing your chocked priestess as you hold her close, warming her up with your body as she shivers.

[] Apologize and explain Kiku-chan's nature.
[] A soft and polite apology without explanation is probably safer.
[] Reassure Subaru and Er Yin that everything is all right, you were just blowing out a matchstick.
[] Continue as though nothing happened, in the proper Japanese way.
[] Kiss Kiku-chan on the forehead and let the other two calm down a little.

Proper Japanese way is often toxic for relationships, for stuff like that.

Better explain.
>>
>>1476488
Seconded, especially on the final point
>>
>>1476488
That makes sense to me, but I'm pretty sure there are times where it's the ideal way to proceed. I just have no idea what those times are, even if I'm pretty sure this isn't one of them.

Are you voting for those options, or just agreeing?

We're definitively getting a collar for our match girl.

Might have to make time in the date for a different kind of exploration, if she keeps doing stuff to get punished.

[XX] Kiss Kiku-chan on the forehead and let the other two calm down a little.
[X] Reassure Subaru and Er Yin that everything is all right, you were just blowing out a matchstick.
[X] Apologize and explain Kiku-chan's nature.

You kiss Kiku-chan's forehead as you cradle her in your arms, and she shivers a little less, which is good. “Ah, nothing to worry about, it was just me putting out a potential fire hazard before it started.” you stroke the soft hair and she snuggles into you, her clothing making soft noises as it brushes against yours. Using your tail you trace the kanji for 'Fire Dragonette got hot' in large brush strokes along the floor. The large spider body quivers a little, and Subaru-san slowly uncurls herself, her human legs relaxing once more as she carefully makes her way back across the large room.

“You know that spider webs don't burn easily don't you?” You don't bother looking at Subaru as she carefully climbs off of the counters and into the aisle next to the cubbyholes that keep her supplies separated and contained. One spider leg slides up and over, and it is more by rote memory than counting that she reaches into the cubbyhole for a wide, long box. “They're not like silkworm thread. It's a stronger set of proteins, and less degradable.”

Er Yin walks over to you, having homed in on your voice, and kneels as well, stroking her lovers hair. You are both rewarded with a sleep, exhausted sounding sigh as the fire dragonette takes on a more normal temperature.

“Truthfully, I didn't know that. Still, I wasn't sure, so I thought I should play it safe, Subaru-san. I am sorry for startling you like that. Though if I'm around, you really don't have to be afraid of anything or anyone, especially me.” She blushes and inclines her head, eyes closed, acknowledging both apology and the protectiveness you offer. She hands you the box and you let your talons – your right hand ones – brush the back of her hand lightly, earning you a shiver of surprise and a continuation on that blush of hers. “Ah, thank you!”

“You are very welcome. I hope you and your other friends will drop by sometime soon. I would dearly love to meet the woman who finally caught your eye and your heart, and who accepts that another woman, no matter how small, carries your child. She must be extraordinary.” She stands up and bows, and then carefully clambers up into her hammock once more.
>>
>>1476528
“I will try, but I can't make any promises – you would not believe the hoops I jumped through to manage this date. Oh, and she's carrying my child too, incidentally. So is my best friend, come to think of it.” Subaru looks properly shocked, and then tilts her head.

“Have you considered maternity wear yet?”

“....ah, no, I had not.”

Er Yin laughs softly and Kiku snuggles into you as you stand up with her in your arms, muttering that you're an idiot, though not unkindly.

“Then please consider us for your future needs, Ryukusa-sama, if you don't mind.” The amusement in her voice is nor quite gloating, but you're definitely going to have to make a challenge for yourself if you want to keep ahead of the Scheming Spider of Harajuku.

“I'll consider it, Subaru-san. Do take care, and if you have any trouble, call upon me. I know a few people who can help you.” You also make a note to mention her shop to Chisato-chan. Not for clothing purposes either.

Er Yin thanks the young lady for her time and attention, and will look forward to visiting again when she has the chance, and thanks her on Kiku's behalf as well. Kiku-chan is snuggling into your dubious warmth, and you carry her down the steps as Er Yin follows, not needing a guide now that she's traversed them once. You reassure Yoriko and Kanako that Kiku-chan is all right, merely tired, and you incline your head to Umi-chan, who nods back politely. Placing your tail around Er Yin's wrist, you lead her out into the streets, and towards the bus station.

“And where are we going now, Ryukusa-sama?” Er Yin's question makes you grin.

“Love Hotel Hill, toy shopping, and then for dinner – not necessarily in that order.” Er Yin is struck speechless by the bold announcement.

A muffled noise comes from the vicinity of your chest. “....hentai dragon....”

Thank you for reading and playing - seems 4chan no longer likes images for the moment.

I hope you have enjoyed this peculiarly long thread, and enjoyed meeting some of Ryukusa's other friends.
>>

Thanks for running! Spider was fun indeed.
>>
>>1476532
Thanks for running, I did enjoy meeting anotther one of Ryukusa's old friends, as well as Umetsumi's surprise appearance.

I forget, are we planning on impregnating Er Yin when we get a chance, or waiting until the first round of children are born?

Also, would she lay an egg like Kiku or is that more due to the curse limiting Kiku's size as opposed to their ages?
>>
>>1476539
I forget if we even have a choice in the matter, should we decide to be intimate.
>>
>>1476541
That's a good point I think. Like originally we needed to touch Pearls, but Ryukusa no longer has a Pearl after she fully became a demigod or was that just after Nabiki killed us?
>>
>>1476532
Thanks for writing
Glad to play so many sessions this week (counting raiders)
>>
>>1476539
In Kiku's case, it is because of her body's size that an egg is formed. Age is irrelevant. As far as planning, you may have already gotten Er Yin pregnant - you were very intimate with she and kiku before the date.

>>1476551
This is not correct. you only need to touch Pearls with a Wood dragon during climax to instill a fire dragonette in her. Otherwise, any intimacy can potentially end in pregnancy for Ryukusa, if there are climaxes involved.
>>
>>1476532
Thanks XS. The last couple threads have been a nice break from the norm and did a good job building out a bit of the setting we don't really see which is people's daily lives.
>>
>>1476565
And that's due to Ryukusa having a dramatic amount of Jing right?
>Otherwise, any intimacy can potentially end in pregnancy for Ryukusa, if there are climaxes involved.
I'm pretty sure you've covered this already, but I forget, that also true for Male/Female dragons, if there's a high enough level of masculine energy?
>>
>>1476532

Thanks for running!

Everything was awesome! And this date will still reveal quite a bit of situations and surprises
>>
>>1476583
Yes, it is true for them. Jinyuu freaked Ryukusa out by explaining that in a pair of dragonnes, one could get pregnant if the other had an unusual amount of Jing.

She hasn't really explained the birthing process though.
>>
That reminds me, do we know any second-generation spirit-children? As in the child of two spirit-children as opposed to one human and one spirit? Or can someone be considered a dragonne/dragonette without being a spirit-child because that term is exclusive to a pairing of human and spirit?

The reason I'm asking is I was re-reading the scene we had tantric sex with Yuuhi and
>Most – nearly all – spirit-children are partly or wholly orphans, you know, right? It's the nature of our parents to split up before we're even born, just because of what we are.
And I guess I'm confused because I don't remember it being said that spirit-children are normally sterile, or their offspring is human or anything like that.
>>
>>1476913
Spirit children breed true with their own exact kind (elemental type excepted, and also why Ryukusa can't get every girl pregnant) and human x spirit-child=human babies.
>>
>>1477011
I remember the first thing, and the second one sounds vaguely familiar, even by that extent they seem rare. Are spirit children tied in some way to Japan's birth rate like they are its fortune?
>>
>>1477064
Yea. Despite the seeming commonality of spirit-children, you have to remember that Ryukusa moves in strange circles and sees lots of them. Others are clannish and gather in larger groups for protection as well. There are high schools dedicated to them, but there is only one in all of Tokyo, and it isn't filled to capacity.
>>
>>1478116
I think I'm not doing a great job of clarifying what I what I want to ask, so sorry if it feels like I keep coming back to this. The thing I'm wondering is if spirit-children having children with other spirit-children is just really rare period due to them being disinclined to pair up, possibly for pseudo-mystical reasons, or is it just that the circles/locations Ryukusa moves in just make her unlikely to run into any, and it'd be a different situation if she met more of the clannish groups you mentioned, or has she run into some and it's not worth noting?
>>
>>1476317
It's too bad that in-quest, I'm not sure the odds are good that there will even BE a Shibuya prefecture in 2015.

Also even if there is, there's also hoping that an increase in spirituality won't also result in an increase of conservatism/traditionalism though that is not really within Ryukusa's wheelhouse to worry about.
>>
>>1479085
The most common types of spirit-children are oni-born, kitsune/nogitsune-born, and dragon-born respectively, and they are the most likely to pair up and have children. Other types of spirit children are actually pretty rare, and since it is only possible to have children with a spirit-child of your own kind, the resulting true spirit-children births are correspondingly rare. Ryukusa rarely runs into such situations because of the peculiar clan she happens to be part of being very circumspect about their love lives and marriages. Nogitsune-born are more common than kitsune-born, and they tend to be very solitary kinds despite that, on top of preferring human partners (which results in human children, though often they have spiritualist talent or a measure of psychic ability). Oni and ini-children are extremely clannish and avoid large groups of humans (i.e. cities). In small towns they are often easily found, and they tend to keep to themselves and marry among their own kind with rare exception. Dragons are another humnanophilic group, and their children tend to be the same way, but they rarely marry and often leave orphaned children in their wake.

So, in general, the circles that Ryukusa moves in are lacking in children in general, or they are kept safely out of the line of fire (nogitsune-children of nogitsune-child parents are often marked for trouble and possible death by their very nature, much as their parents tend to be.
>>

Thank you for explaining, considering how many types of Youkai there are, it does make sense that it'd be really difficult to find someone with the same youkai heritage as you and you might not exactly inclined to try. The oni thing is interesting and I hope most clans are kinder to their half-Oni than Yui's was, and it's interesting to hear that dragonnes and dragonnetes typically take after their dragon parents. Sad to hear that, in terms of Nogitsune children, it seems like one of the only exceptional things about Yuuhi's childhood is that it had a happy ending.
