You send a group of your skilled troops scouting around the shore to the North in an attempt to go East.

When they return their spores are erratic in trying to explain what they saw. Eventually you get them to calm down and explain in detail.

One of the slingers updates the map while the others explain. You may have scaley and acid spewing beast, but they saw signs of something more mighty.

According to them, trees had large gashes in them and had been toppled over, prints the size boulders from the mine, and a cry like the howling of the cold wind could be heard every so often.

With some of the more well trained troops sent out you have the Spearshrooms around Capstone train.

In the area they've started to use as their training grouns you can hear commotion of some kind all day.

---

At this point you check on Scientist, who was given a sample of the "healing seaweed" you got from the Bullywugs.

"Chief! So good to see you, I was just about to see how strong the effects of this plant was."

You see Scientist has one of the seaweed wrapped around his arm and he continued. "With our troops being safe I had to give myself another cut with an axe, but it wasn't too deep."

As you think about their habit of selfharm, Scientist takes off the wrap. You see... nothing.

"Well it seems to have completely fixed the cut I gave myself recently. Though for larger wounds I'm not sure how much would be needed."

Any options about the last trade deal with Bullywugs before the winter? I really want to get some pearls for future trading...my post from last thread.

>Trade 5 bronze bars to 10 pearls, 5 if they disagree with first offer. Although metal for weapons should be far more valuable than some shiny things from sea.

Reports come in from the southeastern scouting party. The group tells you they went as far as they could. But the vast open plains were to difficult to fully cross. They tell you of large fires rising from a "land of death"

What caused this could not be investigated as the scouts needed to return to the jungle post haste. If only there was some way to travel long distances, quickly and without drying out under the sun.

Your massive mushroom men are seen shivering one day, huddled together against the wall. You pitty the guys, not being able to stay warm...

Oh yeah thats right. The flowers.

It takes every last flower you have saved but you craft two giant belts of the glowflowers and some vines. They seem to appriciate it even though they can't tell you. Small Shroom thanks you in their stead. Apperently, he has been out in the cold with those two the whole time as well.

No, I agree with you, its a good idea. We could give it a shot. I don't see a immediate need, but hell, its winter. Say, are the massive mushroom men too big for warming cave? Speaking of that, is there even enough space for all of our people in the cave?
Maybe we should keep one of bigger houses warm with fire.

When and if, we are going to cross the plains, we are gonna need a lot more than umbrellas. Water for moisturing our people, and likely some faster way to travel.
Lizardman and that one human were riding some kind of beasts, we could try to find our own beasts of burden..atleast to pull the wagons, I somehow doubt our people would be much of riders.

The Spearshrooms are all practicing, but your trained ones seem to be getting more out of it. It is while you watch them keep training you can't tell just by looking who is more experienced.

After the latest scouting report you tasked Scientist with finding a way to prevent people from drying out under the sun. You run to his hut to check on progress.

As you warm up you notice the apprentice seem to be wearing leaves wrapped around their caps. "Gaze upon my newest invention! With these leaf covers out caps should act as shade from the harsh sun."

Scientist explains than when it warms up the village should easily be able to get more. You ask if anything else can be done and Scientist mentions that with access to the smelter he could make bronze covers to protect caps.

"Heya mushroom peeps. Ready to wheel and deal!" A smallish molegirl says popping her head in through the dedicated hole in the wall. They come back every winter, why even plug it up right?

Hey, wait! This isn't the guy that normally comes. Who is this sassy mole?

The new molegirl pops out of the hole and pulls some bags of goods out with her. Followed soon after by the twins you have come to depend on for your yearly goods exchange "Oi! We brought our niece. She's got some intrestin' things to talk to you about if you'll give er' a minute. Then we got some deals fo ya' "

"Ye. When my uncles told me they discovered a new race I was thrilled! Normally races only deal with the moles who first find them so this is a great start for me! I think you all may be in the need for some extra gold... am I right? Boy do I have a deal for you!." In a rather shaky voice she begins to teach you of a concept called an investment. At first she seemed rather confident but as soon as the started talking she begins to fumble her words and shake. S-so, y-yeah... If you want to, um invest. That'd be great. I'll be over there... The girl climbs back in the hole ]. In the background you hear hyperventilation (whatever that is)

Sorry about that my friend. She's new to our trade. Anyway we got some good shits for ya to buy this year. Check it out. He opens the bags from the floor and spreads out the contents. We also got some other bigger stuff back home we can have here by the end of winter.

It is so very cold, but you sit in the doorway of your hut and moniter the Giant Shrooms. They seem rather simple, but Tiny helps explain things to them when they need help.

You ask Tiny about what weapons would suit them in the downtime, the smaller shroom using you as a wind break.

"Well Chief, these guys are huge. Give them a big stick and they could whack away others before they get close. You could just give em big rocks to hurl or even let them charge in and beat the spores out of stuff."

By the end of the training the Giants seem to be able to coordinate their massive bodies well enough.

The Priest of Shrom is knelt down at their god's shrine as you approach.

"Ah, hello Chief. Shrom has said their embrace shall be upon us soon."

Other Shroom villagers come over and join the prayer and you all feel at ease.

---

Scientist and the Aprentice remain stumped by the unknown book's language.

They mention how it has images of strange stones and what looks like diagrams of your smelter and even stranger things in it.

Sadly without some head start into the language you just won't be able to find out much more from this book.

I have no strong option of dwarf slaves, but they would probally help us read the books and do stuff with metal. If they really are same creatures as the ones in pictures at book talking of ores and metal.
But no bullywug slaves..if we release em, they would be enslaved again or be "free" like ones in village nearby, and it would probally harm our relationship with our neightbour if we kept em as slaves.

"Aww, yeah. For sure my main man. What you got here seems to be." The moleman walks around the barrels and inhales deeply. "What you have here is ten Sixty gallon barrels of human made wine" He steps closer and pulls a small object from his bag and holds it to his eye.

"Wew, lads. I-is this..." he takes a step back from the barrels "We can't fucks with this. I failed to notice the insignia of the emperor. You should drink this fast gentlemen. If those humans even think that you robbed that Emperor of theirs, you'll have an army knocking on your door in a day." He wipes his hands clean of that and asks you never speak of those barrels ever again. "Don't worry, we don't snitch on our clients."

>Offer for wine removed
---

"Can you tell us what these books are?" You say pointing to the books you have bought(from them) in the past, and been given by the Reptillians.

"Sure thing, my friend!" He says bringing the item to his face again. "Looks like you have a Dwarven encyclopedia of metals in the central mountains... A human history book, accounting details of the last great war. And... What's this now, sorry, my reptilian is a bit rusty... 'The Writ of S-sli'... Slither something. Can't really make out that last word."

---

"We'd love to teach you guys stuff. An informed consumer is a loyal consumer. However, we are on pretty tight deadlines, not much time to stick around. If ya want we can give an endorsement back home. The eggheads back there would love to study you and would probably give some free lessons for the chance. The rub is getting you to our city, it's ways away and you aren't the smallest fellas."

"If you figure out a way to fit in our caves that'd work for us. "

---

"W-well... uh..." After half an hour of her trying to convey the idea of what investment is you think you finally get the gist. Basically you give her money, she buys and sells goods from across the land (with her uncles) and pays you back with interest when she returns. THAT IS, if she makes wise investments. You COULD very easily lose money the very same way.

Probably roll 1d10, the result would probably be how she did. Example: 7/10= 140% return on the investment, whereas a 3/10 would yield a 60% of the investment. However she is a novice and may not be up to par yet, as she improves you may earn rerolls and adjustments to the system.

"And that's how it works..." She gives her uncle a questioning look. As if to say "Did I do well?"

>>
>>1468271

So that we can get a surplus and work on updating our entire military, the gold isn't doing much for us and our bronze mining isn't exactly fast

What would we do with the Giant Animal Harnesses? We don't have any sort for experience with husbandry or even likely candidates for using them on
>>
>>1468302
We live in a monster filled forest, there is some kind of acid spewing monster up north so we have no shortage of candidate animals to tame, and we will gain experience doing so for the future. Also, we can probably increase our mining output in the summer with some of our new Shrooms that will be born
>>
>>1468308
the lesser acid slug is entirely different from whats up north. You only have a sound to go on for what that is.
>>1468268
Oi crab, are warriors dedicated warriors? I was thinking they just are normal villagers then when the time calls for it they grab weapons and can be used.
>>
>>1468308

But that will push off the update of our military off for another year, this gives us a headstart on the project

Plus there's no guarantee that the animals that we find suitable to tame will be able to fit the harnesses, I am all for working on some animal husbandry but we should buy supplies for what we know we can use
>>
We can always increase miners or even open up an new mine, and we are not even using bronze that fast at the moment, I'd rather sell bronze than buy any.

"Hey man, thanks for giving the kid a chance. I'll make sure you at least get your money back this time. Hopefully the kid is good enough that I won't have to cover her though , eh'!?" He chuckles for a second and waves to you as he disappears into the dark of the hole.

The Giants continue their practice in the cold, good thing you had those belts made for them.

Tiny seems to have payed attention to your question, you notice they are lifting leftover stones and swinging them around.

The older group of Slingers has shared all they know with the newer ones. While they continue their drills, you notice the Slingers are working together as one group fully.

Your Spearshrooms all start to practice 1 on 1 practice battles with the butt of their spears. Though nobody is harmed, a few shrooms take bonks on the cap.

The combined training makes it hard to tell who has been a spearshroom for how long except for the armor pieces some left on.

>All current Spearshrooms are now (S) 2/4 level!

With permission the Science shrooms have taken to the wine with fervor. During your check-ins you find them using one of the barrels to keep one of your seaweed in, saying this is a long-term test.

They test dipping gold and bronze into the wine as well, but that has no response.

Another time you see the three sitting in separate barrels with their warm clothing off, though their spores are relaxed.

Progress is steady, as the trio learn more of what Wine does and doesn't do.

This gift from the gods must be met with thanks. With help from the priests and villagers you have another festival on the way.

There are suggestions for hunts, shield toss, spars, even inviting the Bullywugs over.

As you try to listen to all the request there is another gathering at the nursery. The Tree of Shrom has give you another 15 truffles!

>Select activites for the festival
>+15 Truffles

---

As shrooms head back to the mine, you send word to start an effort to armor all troops in bronze.

Currently your bronze stores aren't enough to armor them all, but ten is a good start.

When the cart returns with the resouces and armor you get concerning news.

According to one shroom who took a walk, outside of your mushroom borders it is still cold.

>+10 Bronze Armor
>-20 Bronze Bars
These books seem to be mostly comprised of pictures. Good for you since you cannot read any of the few words in them. Mostly crude animations of what you assume their kind of truffles would look like.

That is the first three books. The fourth is almost the complete opposite. Extremly small print words cover the front and back of almost every page of the book. Only small pictures in the upper corner of every page of some weird objects. Neat, tht one kinda looks like us.

The last book has no real cover. Its mostly paper (from what you have learned) And is folded over itself a few times. A Large picture covers a good portion of the front page and smaller are littere throughout the book. But nothing big

>Try growing truffles in mixture of strange substances.
>Decipher the childrens book (assign one of the scientist assistants to it)

I think we should have one of the assistant focus down on writing and the Shroomanities research where the other one can focus on arms, armor and construction

Invite the Bullywugs to the festival, contests of stength and shield throwing, along with the ending concert of the lyre seemed a good set up, promise that half of the glowflowers grown from playing will go to the Bullywugs (I hope they're awake, they said they needed to hibernate in the cold times)

>>
>>1470808
Oh, and before I forget again, we should do mock battles instead of hunting because hunting takes a long time and tends to end with casualties. Imagine if in the Olympics multiple people died. Would really put a damper on the festivities, though we could hunt something before hand and burn it as an offering.
>>

Not in cultures where it is a glory to die in combat.

You hve no real culture yet as you are only a few years old. It could happen.

Scientist left once you gave the word for miners to resume work and only now returns. As they approach you see their cap shining in the sunlight.

Once closer you can see their cap is covered in Bronze, this must be the helmet idea.

"Chief, not only will this protect us from above, but also can act as shields."

Scientist moves the bronze cover to an arm, it looks to a slightly larger version of the shield you got from the caravan.

>Helmet 2/2!
[Bronze Helmets can be used to block the harsh sun or act as shields.]
---

With Scientist busy, the Apprentices begin studying the books. Their efforts are soon rewarded as they learn the languages of each of the new books.

By matching the writing and looking at the pictures they learn they are in Human, Lizard, and "Dwarven" script. According to the pictures Dwarves are hardly half your size!

The book filled with many small words matches the Lizard's writing. You don't know what the words mean, but they translate it too "Easy Way to Cook Humans and Frogs"

The other book is Human and seems to be a collection of papers more than anything else.

[Without someone to teach the languages, progress will be difficult.]
---

It seems truffles are able to adapt what they grow from, so you seek to test this. Unfortunately you have little in the way of organic resources.

In the nursery you can see the five older truffles are close to maturity. As the newest are tucked away in dark, damp corner, you wrap one of them in the healing seaweed.

You also tell one of the nursery watchers to let one of the truffles have daily drops of wine in their nutrients.

The last of those tasks taken care of you contemplate going to the Bullywug Village. But you remember they rest in the cold and no glowflower has grown yet.

Thanks for a Short winter are to be held around the town. All the work is to be put off until a later date as now is time to give praise to the gods whom have provided so much for you in these years.

First, the Celebration kicks off with something new. A mock battle between your troops. Your Pries seems to think U-so would enjoy blood bloiling combat. Some sticks are used in the stead of actual weapons. And the new concept of Shields is put to an early test. Some Bark is torn from trees and used as shields.

After thrilling combat the day seems brighter and ends in one shroom standing above all others. A shroom of which has been with you very long and been is naerly every battle sofar.(even though its only like 3). He bows to you at the end and returns to his home, rather tired.
>(Is there any reward for him?)

The next day a new contest is held. A contest of strength and lifting. Your men all do their best, lifting logs of various sizes above their heads. The same shroom from last time steps forward with what feels like a smug aura. He gives a thumbs up to the rest of the onlookers and atands between tow lofting logs(the average weight your men have lifted sofar) He places a hand a branch of them both and struggles to left them. A moment later, sweating through his Epedermis. He manages to lift the two logs in the air for a moment. He puts them down pretty quickly(like most)

Out of nowhere you hear the spores of the Small shroom "NO, NO PUT THAT DOWN!"

You look over and the two giant shrooms have each torn small trees out of the ground and are lifting them up and down with ease. When they notice you looking they each wave to you with their free hand.
>Is that fair? Did they win? Or is it the guy from last time.
he festivities come to an end on night three where you introduce a new concept. A motion of expression. A dance.

Priest sits in the watchtower and plays a newly written 'song' on the harp of U-so. The melody filling the air around the shroom people who struggle to think of what to do as a 'dance'. Most of them just kicking and flailing their arms... not sure if Shrom is going to see this as cute or funny but one way or another you should be pleasing her with this.

I like it, we should also give his Bronze Helmet a crest of glowflowers as an identifier on the battlefield

Nope

They grow at holy cites it seems. Unless there is a different way. Who knows

As shrooms begin to tire out from dancing you decide now is the time to announce the results of previous events. As you climb the wall you send out spores for the previous winners and giants to come over. Shrooms crowd around below, as do the giants who are too big to stand on the wall.

You announce that while the giants did lift the most, their sizes mean they would be in a contest of their own. For now they will share first place and in future festivals you will keep things separated. Everyone finds this agreeable, though the giants are confused.

With that taken care of you address the winner of the mock battle, Bata-Shroom for short. Others seem interested by the shortening of a title, but stay focused on the ceremony.

Following your plan you pick up the helmet you put up here early and place it on Bata-Shroom's cap. With that the festival is truly over, shrooms go to their huts as work will start the next day.

You take the chance to ask Tiny about what the giants want. According to Tiny, the giants liked the trees they picked up and could also use a place to rest without worrying about weather.

The next morning you step out to begin giving work orders and you notice five more shrooms walking around. Seems the older truffles are fully grown now.

Glowflower has been with you for a long time now, yet you still aren't sure how it grows. U-So's Priest has said before they are a gift from the Sun, but they grow just like other plants.

You have Science-Shroom start studying the joined shrine. Glowflower has grown there through the seasons, but you have left it alone out of respect.

Scientist reports that currently the glowflowers seem to be budding on vines, giving off less warmth then while fully grown. The vine doesn't seem to use the ground for resources like other plants though...

>Glowflower Study 1/2

---

You feel bad for the Giant-Shrooms not having housing earlier, but at least the glowflower belts have kept them warm.

Their massive frames mean a typical hut is out of the question. The builders take this as a challenge though, and quickly make use of the wood around.

Tiny shows the Giant-Shrooms their new home and you feel the air heavy with the happiness from their spores. Using large mushroom stalks as central pillars, the builders used vines and wood to make a large cone structure for each of them.

>Basic Giant Hunts made!

---

Things are getting cramped in Capstone, and if you wish to expand more the walls must grow. This will be a long task, but doing so should grant much more land for the future shrooms.

Builder shrooms have begun to lay stone down for the new walls, your current tools make this not as hard as when the walls were first built.

Scientist walks into your hut and throws their arms up "Glowflower only needs sunlight, no nutrients."

You stare at Scientist in confusion, they just shrugs and leaves. Deciding in investigate more you go to U-So's Priest.

"Ah yes! The glowflower is a gift from U-So, he says it only shall grow on the altar so long as we keep his light shining upon in."

That was enlightening. The priest goes on to explain that U-So shouldn't mind small amounts of glowflowers being harvested.

The construction of your new wall continues on as planned. However one of the workers comes to you with a question.

"Chief, Some of us were thinking. We have all the supplies gathered and have started Improving the wall. But what if we had ANOTHER wall going around that wall? Thats twice as good, yes?" A neat idea that could work well for defense but that kind of project... building an entire new wall...a bigger wall around the previous... that would require MASSIVE amounts of time and resourses.

"What think, chief?"

Looking around you notice something. Besides a select few places, this jungle is pretty dark... Where would be a good place for a flower that thrives on sunlight? You think this to yourself as you pace back and forth outside the village walls.

Then as a rough leaf falls upon your cap a revilation hits you.

"I bet the tops of our trees would be incredibly bright! Probably even strong enough for our people to walk upon!"

Now the only problem is trying to figure out how to triple the height of your giants in order to reach the Canopy of a cap that has hovered over your village nearly unoticed since the time of your transformation.

A new level of Cap

"Hey Chief" Scientist asks.

"Yeah?"

"Do those stars there look like anything to you? I was talking with SmallShroom and he thinks it looks like a Acid Slug. I tried to see it but nothing, then I asked the priest. He said the same stars reminded him of what he Imagined Shrom looks like. All I see is dots, am I missing something?"

You look into the sky at the various stars. Trying to find meaning. The only thing that stands out to you are a few stars over top of the Night sun. It kind of looks like a Cap...

You give the second wall approval and the builders set off to complete it. They easily fix up the small hole they had made and expand upon their groundwork.

With your focus on bronze it may take longer to build, but you don't have any immediate threats.

Thankfully your builders and miners are all using wheeled carts to move stone, even if the heavier loads get stuck in the mud sometimes.

>Second Wall 4/10

The shrooms of Capstone shall not stay in the shadows forever. The comfy, dark, wet shadows...

Science-shroom, their apprentices, and the more creative builders all put their caps together and begin a project. They call it "The Big Ladder"

But there is more to their plan, they just need to get on top of the cap first. The ladder itself is simple, but the harder part will be creating a system of pulleys and platforms to lift shrooms up.

With all the parts nearing completion, the U-So Priest-shrooms even say a prayer for the ladder. Hoping that by going higher you all can get closer to the god.

>Cap Climbing 2/3

---

While the ladder is being made you task one of the apprentices with learning more about the massive mushrooms.

However, from what they can gather it is just a very large mushroom. It spreads spores, breaks down the dead, but is un-moving.

The tallest ones must have taken a long time to grow higher than the trees and not even be bothered by the sun.

Well would you look at that. This second wall is coming along nicely. When it is finally finihed it will almost triple the protective radius of your city. Not to mention if some kind of enemy were to break in the villagers would be safe in the inner wall.

But its still got a ways to go before the entire wall is built.

"Chief, another raptor got in the wall. What do you want us to do?"

"Well get it out, obviously."

>>Second Wall 5/10

---
It is finally time. With help from one of the Giant-shrooms the ladder is leaned against the cap and one brave builder must climb it while carrying pulley.

One of your younger builders volunteers, unafraid of the massive height. Shrooms all around the village watch as they begin to climb.

Time seems to slow to a crawl as the shroom gets higher and higher, carrying the pulley up must be making it more difficult than it looks. Eventually they near the top, but a strong breeze begins to cause the ladder to sway.

The ladder leaves contact with the shroom and goes straight up!

But the giant-shroom goesn't let go. Pushing it back against the wind the shroom up top can only cling on for life as the ladder top slams back into the cap. Their pace picks up as they scramble up.

You can hardly make them out as they attach the pulley to the cap, the thick vine rope flowing down.

As the shroom slides down others cheer. The lift platforms are easily connected to the system and the lift is complete.

---

The more you look at the Cap of the Night Sun the more you think, 'Yeah, it does kinda look like a cap. Almost like a giant shroom, hah' But as you are thinking this thinking of the glowing ball as one of your kind, a wonder happens. A glowing ball of fire flies from the heavens across the ball and dissapears as it huttled towards the planet.

"Wow, that was... different. Wonder what that was? It looked like it landed to the Southwest somewhere. Maybe one day I will find it."

Over half the wall is done now, giving much more space for housing already. Looking out over the construction project you can already see the eventual homes filling out the area.

"Umm Chief, we need you to move over some."

Oh right. You move out of the way of the builders and head back to business.

Taking the lift onto the giant mushroom is an experience, a strong breeze causes it to shake ever so slightly.

You can't imagine how it felt for the builder-shroom on the ladder. Or how much the stone slows it down with the giants or groups of shrooms having to pull the lift up.

A small altar has been built on top with a glowflower vine wrapped around it. Hopefully this will yield a few glowflower to harvest in the future.

Scientist-Shroom plans a series of expeditions with some of your spearshrooms and slingers. Their goal? Write the first shroomish book about the creatures in the surrounding wilderness.

The first outing went well. They simply hid and watched the various scaled creatures fight, sleep, eat. So long as they didn't get too close the stealth didn't even seem needed most of them.

Some of the species studied (and named)were:

>Crocodile: The dangerous water dweller with armored scales and a dangerous mouth. Eats mostly meat and has a soft underbelly.

>Wrogi: A smaller lizard that move in groups. Also eat meat and seem physically, but have the ability to inflate sacs on their face and spit a purple substance.

>Hadrosaurid: A larger reptile that eats plants, has a weird shape on its head and a mouth like the birds occasionally seen above the canopy.

>Bird: Too many different types to count. Small, flying, eats seeds or worms.

>Fish: Also too many. Live in water and eat whatever they can get, even each other.

>Mizutsune: Weird skin that never gets muddy. Eats fish and other small stuff. Very few, but their fur seemed to make weird bubbles. Spearshrooms don't want to hunt a big one.

The Wrogi seem like a tameable species, ones that could be used for fighting too. The Mizutsune is something I think we should study in depth later,.

Whats a seige? You have never seen another walled city. You would have no reason to know or think about this subject. Ranged might work.

[Just making sure you know, that would be your 4th U-So shrine / altar.]

I meant big weapons we can mount on the walls, or fire over them at someone attacking us. So more like anti-siege weapons, really. Might have to wait until we've learned the basic of machinery, though. So for now I'll just say "upgrade ranged weapons".

We already have altars for gods and we have managed just well with slingers so far.
We have not looked for truffels this year at all and I am not holding the promised trade any longer or we miss it this year too.
If we want to experience with truffles, lets get something truly new for them to grow in

>buy 10 pearls. Pay with 5 bronze units
>buy biggest sea creature bullywugs can bring us, the bigger more we pay in bronze and glowflowers
