for the love of fucking god that alarm is annoying. you groan as you put your head back down up put a pillow over it, and just then your cell rings. what did you not do yet to deserve this?

"Hello? are you there?"

you stay silent for a minute.

"answer damnit I know you picked up."

you still don't answer, just to be funny.

I'm going with Jacob and filling in a last name.

"Jacob Marshal you better fucking answer your Cousin or I swear to god i'm going to feed you your ass through a straw!"

"Hi cuz."

"Errrgh!" she takes a deep breath. poor Nina. "the flight got delayed, I'll be down from Montana in a about ten hours from the looks of it, you'll pick me up from the airport, right?"

(sorry Anons I had to pick up some food.)

You sigh. "right..right I'll be there"

"You alright Jacob? You sound tired?"

". . .It's five in the morning."

"Oh shit, sorry."

You huff, wishing she would have called you later. "It's fine, I'll get you at three alright."

"Ok, thank you Jacob, buhbye!"

With that you collapse back in bed, but just can't fall back to sleep. Nine and a half damn hours. Well gotta do something. Or several something's.

ok, interesting build.

you get up and decide to catch up on all that's happened in the last twenty-four hours. just like you do every day. the rest of the morning is spent doing various hobbies, taking care of the house, you eventually get the idea that maybe it would be a good idea to clean the place up before Nina has to show up.

it's about morning proper by now, eight thirty. you still have some time to kill.

you head down to the local firing range and kill about three hours. you've managed to burn through almost 20 mags worth of ammo. leaving you about three left to carry with you. ah shit, you almost forgot, you were having too much fun trying to beat your record. Nina should be at the airport in the next hour, and it's a whole half away. you hop on your chopper and make way up the 27. it's a bit of a drive but surprisingly it's open. you actually make it to Okeelanta Airport in record time.

the next several items are spent waiting for your cousin, you figure now rather than before you left the house and range is a good time to check you inventory.
1 phone.
1 switchblade (low damage. very close range.)
3 pistol mags. (2 reloads, 4 'shots' per mag.)
1 glock 19. (low damage. 'ok' firerate. short range. very fast reload.)
2 granola bars
3 uses worth of first aid.
and a backpack to carry it all in. tucked neatly into the saddlebag of your all American chopper.

. . . ok, fifteen minutes, not much happening, you saw some military vehicle go by here. she's actually half an hour late, you can't believe she managed to keep you waiting out here by the termi- and your phone is ringin- and she's walking right to you with hers in her hand. you never understood why people fucking do this, just hurry up and get over here. you answer and hang up so she at least knows it's you.

"sorry I tried to get through as quickly as possible but you know how security is."

"it's gotten worse since the last terror attack."

"you know I have been seeing more of those in the news. first the night club, then that street shootout with the army, and to top it off that man with the bag of puppies and homemade cannon. the hell is happening is this Floridistan?"

". . . that last one is actually much more normal for us than the other two."

"is it?"

"Yes."

a short conversation later she puts her bags over her shoulder and then hops behind you. you tell your cousin to hold on tightly as you shoot the bike forwards and head onto the road. you decide to show her some of the streets and are on the 80 towards palm beach.

your cousin tugs at your sleave when you hit traffic and start to slow down. "Jacob. . . Jacob? . . Jacob!"

"huh? what is it!?"

"the highway is closed!"

"you decide it might be a good idea to get off."

your cousin still insist on shouting as loudly as she can over the sounds of the street and your engine. "thank you so much for letting me stay with you for winter break!"

"yeah, not a problem Nin-" that is when you round the turn and see past the wall in the freeway, a mass beginning to creep up the side of a skyscraper. it's absolutely bizarre and reminds you of those pictures from inside NYZ from a few years back.

"oh my god! OhMyGod! Jacob!"

"I-I see it."

Phone posting is a bitch.

6-5=1

You hop out, roll you chopper into the back, it's a tight fit but it's in. The drive to Wellington regional isn't to far, and with how uneasy Nina is that's a good thing. You take another glance at the map on your cell, it looks like the military has blocked all entry into Florida and are trying to isolate the west coast. You have to wonder, just how are you dealing with this so well?

Half a mile you can almost see the hospital. A quick glance at your phone confirms, it's the medical center. That's when you look up and see a slender Man running out of an alleyway and straight at your vehicle.

You swerve and yell "the hell!" As he leaps on your wind shield. Nina is in a full panic, you almost don't notice his arm really three thick twisted cables of meat until they punch into car and wrap themselves around your neck. Then it speaks.

"You'll do!"

"Jacob!"

Your fingers are tight on the steering wheel and the last thing you do manage is to grab a hold of the e-brake as turn into a garage, nearly flattening a standing guard. So close, you almost made it. Instead you find yourself being pushed from the front and out the back of the vehicle, in the grasp of this monster.

As you struggle against the tendrils of the stranger he seems to pull you into another alleyway and jabs into your stomach before throwing you into a blonde haired woman in a revealing cat suit.

"Here's a little present for ya!" You hear him mock as you colide with her.

Your stomach feels like it's going to rupture, no it's your entire chest. A large red and green growth in the center of where you were jabbed keeps swelling and swelling.

You hear the woman curse as you now find her blade-like arm entering your neck. You try to scream, but between what feels like your entire body about to explode and the knife in your throat you can't make a sound. Then she removed the blade, that's when you see what looks like three spikes exit your chest as your hurled into the street. The last thing you see before you pass out are the two monsters fighting some rubble falling on top of you, and what looks like a worm coming out of your hand.
>>
It's dark. You can't see much except a faint amount of light in front of you. You struggle to move, and that's when you realize why, your underneath rubble. You start trying to crawl out from the shattered concrete, walling, and steel.

Where's Nina!

Another d20 to get your bearings and figure out just where you are. It's not that easy to tell with much of the street torn up from what looks like an artillery strike.

You easily figure out your two alleyways away from the hospital. You make a mad dash for it. You need to make sure Nina is ok, she's been almost like a sister over the years. Even taking care of you while you were sick when you were little. . Or trying to. You remember something about a Jello burn on your back and your father trying to come up with a child safety lock for the stove.

As you come out of your little flashback to the good old days you finally get to the hospital. Unfortunately your not greeted by a friendly group of gaurds. Rather, you hear gunfire and see a hoard of the infected.

police AR-15 carbine rifle.
mag size. 8 shots.

for the humanization dehumanization scale. think of it as moral decay. too much and the character becomes psychopathic. to much in the opposite direction and your character becomes unable to act from moral dilemma. in other words the horrible course of action can be taken but do it too often and your kinda fucking yourself. same with being goody two shoes.

more of don't go to far in either direction. it's like going far enough into authoritarianism gets you Communism and going far enough into liberalism gets you Anarchism. both are very dangerous for different reasons. you have two gutters, one on each side, try not to fall into them.

you take the noise making toys and tie a bunch of them to the dogs tail. it's already barking enough you know it's frightened, and you can't help but feel a sting of guilt for doing this.

you walk out towards the hoard and get a bit close, as one of the infected turns towards you, you release the dog from it's cage.

20 amazing success.

you duck back behind a car and watch as a large part of the hoard fumble around themselves as the dog runs past a number of the shambling corpses. the distraction is enough to that the swat team guarding the hospital shoot open a path to get in, while most of the hoard breaks off to pursue the dog.

you make your way across and as your walking you hear a sickening yelp. the guards don't seem to mind much they're just happy they have a moment of peace.

"Yeah, No problem. Hey i'm looking for two people. One is a man I talked to on the radio, the second is my cousin Nina."

"huh, alright, only one who handles the radio is Hyde, and he's been a bit on edge since yesterday. so whats this Nina look like?"

"Well. She has long brown hair, brown eyes, white like me, skinny, around 5'2-"

"black tanktop and a wool hoodie, with baggy blue Jeans."

"yeah that's her!"

"Well i'll be a son of a bitch. you must be Jacob!"

"guilty as charged."

you and the guard share a laugh and he tells you his names Brian and his friend is Mark, Mark seems a bit more on edge and cuts in.

"you do know what she said happened to her cousin right? one of those, things, tackled him out of the ambulance she rode in on."

"Yeah what of it."

"his clothes are torn up but there's not a scratch on him. it isn't right."

"so he got lucky, big deal."

"he could be infected and get everyone in there killed!"

Brian now seems a bit stuck in thought.

you find yourself upstairs in one of the rooms where they're keeping most of the injured.

"this is it. Nina Tiller, correct?"

"yeah, thanks."

you head inside and you see her with her leg in a cast, and a bandage around her head. that doesn't really stop her from almost jumping out of the bed. almost.

"HOLY FUCK! YOUR ALIVE!"

you run over and exchange a hug. she seems very inclined not to let go and sobs franticly for the first several minutes. eventually you get around to asking her about her leg, which makes her very angry that she has to point out the painfully obvious.

about two days go by. you find that the hospital is already running a bit low on food, Hyde informs everyone over the intercom that the Fort Lauderdale area has been declared a green zone, the patch of coast your in right now is considered Ground Zero and Red, and urged anyone able to get going down there now.

with Tina's leg how it is, and no other transport save for your chopper, your stuck with the hospital survivors until someone can evac those staying. and with food already running low, they're looking for people to get some. there's also a growing need for other supplies. You served as a courier for a year while in trade school, so your set for doing that sort of work. another group has decided to band together and go hunt down a large beast that has been killing some of the guards, Mark and Brian being fortunate so far. most people are saying they're going to their deaths.

finally, theres another group that wants to get to the recently declared yellow zone further north. many are saying they're marching to their deaths but it's closer than going down to the green zone. word has it theres a dock there, and the people going just need an escort.

after your third night here, a doctor by the name of Winston comes by to see you. he informs you that unless you start pulling your weight here. he's going to kick you out, and "your little girlfriend too."

a few hours pass as your group marches out of the hospital and past the first intersection, you see a heli overhead firing at the ground on the right, your groups leader decides to head the opposite way. soon enough you come across a pharmacy, clear the mostly picked clean isle ways, and pocket some of the register money +20 bucks. your group lead starts giving orders. . . if you can call them that.

you scream, the tendrils having pulled the infecting into your body, you can feel it tearing through and devouring what was once an infected. you stand in abject shock and horror as the last remnants of the monster are pulled into your body. your mind races, trying to understand what just happened as it's being flooded with all this noise, names of medicines, family members you don't have, even the last memory from day one of the infected. being covered in a dust of red mist.

suddenly that list of meds the docs gave you started making a lot more sense as you begin filling the bag with assorted pills and creams, even mixing one or two of the required medicines. needless to say some of the group is impressed. yourself even more so seeing as you have no memory of learning any of this.

It just might be a good idea to see how you fare compared to how you were before your. . . Implement. So you head to an empty parking lot.

You try lifting the back of a car, and to your suprise you manage to get it lift it with relatively little difficulty. You could possibly even lift one over your head. You try running until your tired. After about two hours you find your still not tired at all. Usually you would be out of breath after a mail and a half. One of the hospital guards ends up coming up to Nina’s room.

“excuse me miss, have you seen your cou- oh what good timing.”

“um sir?” you respond.

“yes, Jacob, right? Winston wanted me to find you, said it was very important.”

You’re not sure what to think about that. You were considering seeing him later but never considered that he would send for you. A brief goodbye to Nina later and your following this massive guard to Winston’s office. It’s not a bad room actually, although the people gathered here being Winston and Madison you can’t help but be a little worried.

“so, Madison, is this the man you were telling me about?”

“yes Mr. Winston.” She almost sounds like a secretary saying that.

He gets up from his chair. He’s a slender mustachioed man with rather sunken cheeks. And seems to be in his late 60’s. he may not be that big but he’s definitely looking down when speaking to you.

you drop to the floor right in time to avoid taking a shell of buckshot to the chest or head. on the other side of the door there was a shotgun mounted to a plywood frame. clearly someone succumbed to paranoia in here. you wouldn't be surprised to find out the techie did this.

Inside the security room, there’s a dead guard who’s clearly been the victim of an infected mauling, a small set of TVs’ take up one wall, and on the other is a whiteboard that has some notes written on it. “druggies out back need more cameras.” On the TV’s it’s clearly a camera observation station. Oddly enough some of the cameras are clearly broken. ‘camera not installed’ in plane black and white of snow static. How lovely. In Radiology, there’s what looks like an infected, but it’s almost all bone, and seems to be dangling a lot of loose flesh around. The camera’s in the hallways seem to be blacked out. One exception being a hallway marked G5. Then there’s one camera with the word “pens” written over it. This one shows two of those hunter beasts stuck in cages, with a single empty one. On the desk there’s a note written. “pop the pimples, don’t let them hatch.” That is most of it, not a lot else here.

You pick up the body, and take a deep breath before pushing your hand into his stomach. Your tendrils come out and begins pulling the body towards you. You see through his eyes for a moment, stopping inside the closet to catch his breath after running from a small group of the infected. Then the door opens, a beating. . there was someone else here. After what seems like forever you see another face it’s you.

That wasn’t the most pleasant experience, however you now know where your heading. Down towards the physical therapy room, and into the maintenance room. That and there’s someone else here. Huh, a couple things before you go, your skins slightly darker than usual and it looks like your wearing the technicians clothing. Odd, it feels like your touching your own skin when you run your fingers along it, why do you feel through the fabric? When you look in the mirror, you see the technicians face. You jump. This is something new.

It takes you a while to think through it, but you figure it out in about half an hour, just like your arm can change shape into that mass of tendrils, your body can change its shape. Oddly this apparently means you won’t need clothes. well maybe your boots, they are comfortable. You ditch your outfit, and manage to recreate how it looked before it was damaged. Well, now you just need to get going, however, there are a few power tools here, some plates of metal, probably from hospital trays. There’s even a book here, looks like a journal, oddly not the technicians.

QM's Question.

should I make a new thread or keep going? I want to know because this is a lot less activity than usual and I'm not sure if that's because it's Monday or because we've hit the bump limit.

You sink a few of your tendrils into it’s flank, then another set, and on the third round you fling it towards its own quills that were buried in the counter. Your counter assault is met with its shrill screaming and another round of unaimed and wild quills. By now you notice it’s missing most of them from its back and is starting to rapidly grow new ones.

>charge forth and continue the assault!
>swap to your rifle/pistol and mag dump!
>attempt to flee.
>write in.

I think it's a little bit of both. A new thread probably wouldn't hurt.
