Character Sheet: https://pastebin.com/as7jUTfk

You are Ryoma Shizuhara, a young man living with his grandfather in the small town of Hashigata while your mother goes under chemotherapy. So far, you've been in a Shadow-infested Reflected World, became a Persona user, and learned that you can wield multiple Personas. You also got detention for ditching class on the first day (though you really can't explain why without being carted off to the local mental hospital)

Thursday, 4/14, Morning

>Detention is in 2 days...

You are sitting in science class. The teacher, Mr. Suzuki, is a jolly old man who prefers student interactivity to just giving lectures. "Alright, since we're talking about metal today- no, Mr. Kotoku, not that kind of metal, but hopefully we can maintain your enthusiasm, hehehe- let's see...who can name the most abundant metal in the earth's crust? Mr. Shizuhara, do you know?"

Dammit, why do the teachers always ask you? Does being the kid from out of town paint a target on your back?

>CRIT FAIL

"...carbon?" you guess. "That's incorrect." says Mr. Suzuki, looking disappointed in you. "While it's the most abundant material in the earth's crust, carbon isn't a metal. The correct answer is aluminum."

You sit down, feeling like a dumbass.

>After School

You're packing up your things when you hear some students talking.

"Hey, did you hear? The club sign ups are going up today!"

"What the hell kinda clubs could a shithole school like this offer?"

"Well, the judo club and the baseball clubs are still open...also, I think the science club?"

"Wasn't there something about an occult research club?"

"Oh yeah, but that's run by a real weirdo..."

It seems you've got a choice of sports and cultural clubs to choose from...

You decide to check out the science club. As you walk in, you see a brown-haired boy with glasses hunched over an angled glass beaker with some sort of substance that's being heated with a bunsen burner. He picks up a pair of tongs and uses them to grab a piece of candy.

"Carefully..." he mutters as he puts the candy in the vial. Suddenly, the candy reacts with the substance in the beaker and begins burning brightly and emitting smoke while thrashing around the tube. However, it suddenly shoots free of the tube. The brown haired boy lets out a terrified yelp as the burning candy whizzes by your head, missing you by a hair's breadth. You have to check the top of your head to assure yourself that you haven't had your hair burned off.

"Sorry about that, I probably should've used less potassium chlorate..."

He let's out a nervous cough.

"So, uh, hello. My name is Sadahige Takemura. I'm the President of the Science Club. Are you interested in joining?"

>"Are you kidding me? I almost got a faceful of flaming gummy bear! You're lucky I don't call the cops!"

You say you're interested but want to check out other clubs. Sadahige understands.

The Occult Research Club is located in a rather old wing of the school in an unused classroom. You walk in and find the room empty and dark. "H-hello?" you ask, a little creeped out. Out of the dark comes a monotone voice:

"You have an interesting aura...blue, but with gold on the edges..."

A gloomy girl dressed in black steps out of the darkness. "Allow me to introduce myself," says the girl, with a tone that reminds you of a vampire's servant. "I am Seki Arishima, the head of the Occult Research Club. I am very intrigued by your presence...Perhaps I could interest you in a tarot reading?"

"Sure, why not." you reply. Seki nods, and pulls out a tarot deck. She shuffles the deck four times and has you shuffle it the fifth time. She then fans out the cards and selects six.

"The first card represents how you feel about yourself." she says. She turns the card over and it reveals a man with a bindlestick and a dog standing on the edge of a cliff. "The Fool..." she observes. "You feel discontent or uneasy and feel a need for a change in your life, a new direction, perhaps even a great journey. You might not know where you want to go, just that you don't want to stay where you are."

She sets the Fool card aside. "The second card represents what you want right now."

She turns the card over and it reveals a regal man on a throne. "The Emperor...At this time, you seek success and achievement...Perhaps even the approval of a father figure or some other male authority figure."

"The third card reveals your fears..." she says, flipping over a card to show a man in priest's garb. "The Hierophant..." she notes with great interest. "You are uncertain if you are your own best advisor-or if you are about to lead yourself down a path you are morally uncomfortable with. You should seek guidance from an advisor you can trust."

She puts her finger over the fourth card. "The fourth card is what you have going for you..."

(Continued)
>>
>>1453253
The card she reveals depicts a wise looking woman reading from a book. "The High Priestess..." Seki says sagely. "You should put faith in your intuition...Odd, given the previous card..."

She points to card five. "The fifth card will reveals what stands in your way, going against you."

She flips the card to reveal a crescent moon. "The Moon...You are frozen with fear, lacking nerve and confused as to what it is you actually want.

You are allowing all your fears and anxieties to hold you back when you should be opening your mind to new and unexpected possibilities.

You do need to be careful however, as there are deceitful people around who may seem charming but are only out for their own gains. If in a clandestine affair beware, your secret may be exposed."

She pauses. "The final card will reveal the likely outcome of your quest..." She flips the card with a dramatic flourish and reveals an angelix figure blowing a mighty trumpet, with the dead seeming to rise from their coffins in a Rapture."

This causes Seki's eyes to light up in surprise. "How incredible...Judgement itself lies at the end of your path. The end of an era...An opportunity will present itself that must not be ignored and it could have far-reaching implications..."

She chuckles. "Your destiny seems to be the stuff that legends are made of...I hope you choose to join us, Shizuhara-san..."

You head outside, behind the school building to a baseball diamond. Placed in the center of the diamond is a plastic cooler, and sitting atop the cooler and chugging down a water bottle is a rather determined looking young man. On the back of his baseball uniform is emblazoned the word 'SATOYA, B.'

He throws the empty water bottle aside when you walk up to him. "Hey, you're that new kid, aren't you? You here to join the baseball club?"

"I'm interested." you say. Satoya bites his lip. "Let's see if you're any good. Go to home plate, pick up one of the bats."

You do so, and you wait for Satoya to move the cooler away. He picks up a baseball and takes the pitcher's mound. "Alright, I'm gonna pitch and let's see if you can hit it."

You take a batting stance and Satoya makes the pitch.

The man laughs. "What're ya talkin' about, Mitsuoki? I'm bustin' my hump up in Odaiba!" he says.

"Partying with actresses a third your age and getting paid to do nothing? Oh, that must be so difficult." responds Gramps, his voice dripping with icy sarcasm.

The man rolls his eyes, then notices you. "Hey, who's the kid?" he asks.

"If you spent more time with your family, you'd know this is your grand-nephew." scolds Gramps.

As far as social skills go, I don't see any problem with them. As long as they don't detract too much from the story and all that.

"I don't think you are responsible for whatever he did." you say reassuringly. "Everyone's got a responsibility for themselves."

Gramps chuckles. "Damn, you sound more mature than me..."

>The Emperor Social Link has reached Rank 2!

Gramps picks up his tools. "C'mon, I got the stuff to make shrimp tempura inside." he says.

You decide to go for a walkabout. As you walk downtown, you pass by the bar you got dropped off at when you arrived in Hashigata. You wouldn't pay it any mind, but there's a rather shifty looking man standing by a van and talking to the delinquent girls that Momoko was dealing with.

You sneak closer, lurking around the corner of the bar's exterior to hide yourself and listen in on the conversation.

"That's bullshit!" one of the girls yells. The man just crosses his arms. "You don't have the cash, you don't get the product. That's how markets work. Don't they teach you anything besides how to be a country bumpkin in that school of yours?"

The girls walk off in a huff. You turn to walk away when you hear the shady man speak up.

"You're really bad at eavesdropping...parking lot's covered in gravel, makes your footsteps a dead giveaway."

You step out in front of the shady man. "You've got balls, kid." says the man. "Most people would have just made a run for it."

"Well, I'm not most people." you say, crossing your arms nonchalantly. "So, what's in the van?"

The shady man bursts out laughing. "God, if you weren't so young, I swear you were a cop..." he says. "But since you're so young- and therefore a questionable witness..."

He opens the back doors of the van and you see a vast collection of firearms and assorted weaponry.

"How do I know you're not a cop?" you ask. The man doubles over laughing. "Oh, kid, you're a riot." he says between belly laughs.

You pick up an SMG and inspect it. "These for sale?"

"Tell ya what, kid." the man says, lighting a cigarette and taking a drag. "You get the dough, you can have whatever you want, no questions asked. Anything you want, Kenzan Wakui will provide."

With the birth of the Tower, thou hast found a new road to greater power."

You shake Kenzan's hand. "It's a deal." Kenzan smiles. "Lookin' forward to doing business with you kid."

Kenzan gets into the van and drives away.

You manage to get some good progress in your studies!

>Your Knowledge has increased from 20% to 24%!

(Gonna use percentile scores for social stats instead of weird tiers. If you want to contextualize it as tiers, imagine every 20% as 1 rank in that state.)

Eventually your eyelids grow heavy and you decide to turn in for the night. After all, you have detention tomorrow .

You have a dream about you and Hiroji fighting crime as masked superheroes.

(Gonna wrap the thread here, because next time there's gonna be PLOT)

Thanks OP! Is there a place I can get a crash course in the setting? I don't really know what all the social links mean, but I find it intriguing

I think this might help you. If you want to look into more stuff, I think only the stuff under Persona may be relevant.
>>
>>1466250
look up the Shin Megami Tensei: Persona series, specifically 3, 4, and 5.

If you're gonna get involved, Persona 3 is a solid starting point. If you want to get into the rest of SMT, start with SMT Nocturne. Both games are for the PS2, both can be emulated with PCSX2.
Trust me, they are well worth your time.
>>
>>1466250
Also, Persona 5 came out last month if you have a PS4. (Though I haven't been able to play it myself)
>>
>>1466830
Also PS3, which I am currently playing on, and consider a good jumping on point. However if you want to do so for free, emulate persona 3 or 4. Both are good.
