Last time the great shoppening commenced as the trade fleet finally arrived with your new ship. There you purchased colony upgrades, sold shit, hired people, and are now considering some last second purchases before the fleet departs.

Yes last thread was slow...and full of lots of debate, but now we can finally get back to the action.

Last thread.

What do?
>Make a last second purchase/hire
>Go check out your new ship
>Deal with your new hires
>See how the colony upgrades are doing
>Other?

>Go check out your new ship
Lets get to know our new ships AI, find out what it would need to be self sufficient. We will likely need to give it a piece of FISHER gear aside from the Harvester. Once we have found out what our ship (and vast source of income) needs we can deal with it. As well as finding out how to store said exotic matter.

Next action we head down and find out whats going on down below. etc

You sure we shouldn't deal with our new hires before seeing how the colony's doing?
>>

Hire a Co-manager to watch the shop and new employees hired.

Then we head off to the ship with ores as our ice breaker.
>>
>>1438758
we'll go down to the colony with them. We can chat on the way down
>>
Rolled 25 (1d100)

>>1438761
Actually, yeah it probably is necessary to hire a shop manager while we have a chance. If we're going to be mayor and also go adventuring and stuff, we'll definitely need someone who can run the shop for us. For other shop employees we can just hire local teens or something, but we need at least one person who can keep things going while we're away.

We'll still be there when we can, but our time for it will be pretty limited.
>>
>>1438972
Why not hire a local manager whom knows the clientele and population, knows customs and who is likely to try to steal from us? Why hire an outsider where we can recruit a local for a local business.
>>
Rolled 6 (1d100)

>>1439032
Who says there's an experienced manager looking for work already in the colony? Our population is 3000, how many of those people do you think don't already have a job? How many have any qualifications for the position we're trying to hire for?

>and who is likely to try to steal from us?
kek
>>
>>1439046
Because aparantly we get an influx of new people from time to time and where there is a job paying more than their old one people jump at it. Play capitalist, they want that job because it offers security, not working outside with all the monsters and best of all It grants standing for people who want to reach higher in life like many people here would.
>>
Rolled 40 (1d100)

>>1439059
Why are you so opposed to getting an "outsider" when we're in a young colony that gets an influx of new people from time to time? If we're going to hire a newcomer we might as well do it now while there's a trade fleet here, otherwise we'll be paying more for someone who's less skilled, even more so if we try to hire someone who's already been in the colony a while. Playing capitalist means paying attention to supply and demand, and the trade fleet visit is a time of many opportunities. Including the best chance at hiring skilled labor.
>>
>>1439063
hmm you know what, you have almost sold me. I just would rather someone who has first acclimatized to the colony and its life than someone from the outside who has yet too. Plus Since we are gonna be running for Mayor we want to be able to say we're raising up fellow colony dwellers. That's the reasons why i'm pushing it.
>>
Rolled 80 (1d100)

>>1439066
As we grow our business, our other shop employees can be hired locals. I just want someone who knows how to supervise them. Anyone who's established themselves as a regular citizen in the colony who has that skill probably already runs their own business, or at least already has a managerial job that they're satisfied with.

and if something goes wrong we'll have a scapegoat

On a tangentially related note, I still think maybe we should wear the mask when we run for mayor.
>>
>>1439073
I still feel wearing that mask as mayor is really bad for moral. Zealots or not that civilians will want to feel safe. Even if it's not true having some peace of mind will keep them happier.
>>

I'm just waiting to see what others agree on for co-manger. We need someone to direct the new hires when we leave for the ship.

Feeling safe is what they have religion for. And I'd think actions and words would be more important than letting people feel like they know their mayor as a person. But whatever. We should at least keep it with us. Also ask someone about this and other issues.

Actually, maybe it would be better to not wear it and just use the clone ability, when we're doing "normal" stuff.

Bottom. Thread number 3 is missing. http://suptg.thisisnotatrueending.com/qstarchive.html?tags=Genie

Really not much to know then we are a young super hero with charisma focus. We got some Alien tech, helped clear the colony of monsters, and just got some upgrades for the colony.
>>
>>1439302
I'll be honest, i'd never support the idea of being a masked mayor. It is bad for moral, limits our ability, breeds mistrust, allows for imposters, Sets a standard that says if he can wear a mask so can anyone at all times (huge security issue), it invites people to wonder why we do it (no matter they story you give there will be a conspiracy), makes us look like a tool.
>>
Rolled 26 (1d100)

So we all can agree we need a co-manger to support us on away-missions. Mainly to keep some to direct the shop and men while we can't.

It seems our biggest problem is the agreement of where to hire from. So how about we look in both the colony and the trade fleet. Then pick the best one for the job or have them prove them selves in a face off, assuming it comes down to 2 again. Worst case we get two new hires. One for shop and the other for grunts.

The monsters just got purged, we figured out how to sniff them out with our scanner, I want to hire someone from the trade fleet anyway, we already recruited some people for other things, and Genie has told us repeatedly that basically we should have as many underlings as possible.

I could understand it before, but we took care of that problem. Now you're just being a dick. Still, I will agree to just get a bot shopkeep if one other anon will too, because I just want some sort of decision to be reached.

Alright so hiring a manager considering the effects of last thread 100...you got yourself a semi retired Megacorp Manager who got tired of the corp life and took an 'early retirement' package, problem is retirement didn't sit well with him...

He is an extremely rare creature. A fellow whose managerial skills allowed him to climb into the mid ranks of the Megacorp and his politicking saw to it he was well on his way to the Upper echelons of the Megacorp before he unexpectedly took an early retirement. Thus allowing him to bypass the ever alert gazes of the top dogs but at the same time screwing himself out of an absurdly attractive retirement package.

After that you figured you were finished with the trade fleet and arranged for a shuttle to take you to your new...ish ship. Well its new only to you technically and after you got closer you noticed how its hull...parts of it are clearly newer then other sections. All of which have seemingly undergone crude if oddly thorough repairs. Probably not enough to be considered 'safe' for squishy meatbags such as yourself but fine for by the strange standards of the AI housed within the ship.

Soon you were brought to a surprisingly large docking doo-no wait it can't be...but it is. As the shuttle unexpectedly passed through a forcefield and into an entire docking bay...surrounded by rows upon rows of eerie drones housed under dim lights that flicker menacingly. The shuttle seemingly confused for a second about finding some space soon flew over and landed upon an outcropping above the huddled masses of drones covering pretty much every other surface. There it opened a door...and you could taste the wave of...air. Barely fit by living standards but livable none the less. If quite uncomfortable. Long term exposure to this barely breathable stuff...isn't something you would enjoy and might have some unfortunate health consequences. It was also strangely chilly. As if the heat thermometers within this entire section of the ship was broken...that or the life support system was malfunctioning. Soon you trudged out of the shuttle and took a closer look at the drones as the shuttle quickly lifted off and zipped away. Ignoring the possibility you may have wanted back on board.

There you called out to the gloom hoping to get a response...instead you only heard echoes of your voice. Taking a closer look at the drones you were startled to find out that they had varying origins...but were so heavily modified that they appeared to be the same kind from afar. You were more surprised to find that some of those drones seemingly hidden among the masses were drones that were clearly...unmodified. They were however the exception and it was as if the other drones were modified into being turned into one of them before seemingly given up partway and instead being satisfied with them just looking alike.

So you slowly made your way down the walkway...hoping to see even a passing maintenance drone.
>>
>>1444507
naaw our new friend is the borg
>>
>>1444507
So we're headed to the control room I suppose. As we could have guessed, shit's spooky.

Nice job on the manager, we need to be sure they have some peeps to manage once we get back planetside. I guess they weren't tired of working so much as tired of the corporate scene, which I think is understandable no matter how rarely it actually happens.
>>
Rolled 94 (1d100)

>>1444507
Or more importantly find the goddamn heat control as you are...really not dressed for this kind of cold. Fortunately during your seemingly aimless walk you stumbled upon what appeared to be a...control station. One that is clearly not originally designed for the ship given how it stuck out like a sore thumb and its style was completely different to the rest of it. There you found the heat adjuster and promptly turned up the heat by a quite a bit. Soon you could hear loud rumbling as hot hair was vented in from the surprisingly large vents that were scattered throughout the area.

It was when you were looking up and down at the vents that you noticed a flicker of motion...as a large hulk of machinery swung itself up as it tore drones off the racks carefully before tinkering with them a bit and placing them back. What was even stranger was the large series of wires connecting the hulk to the ship...that seemingly vanished into the ship.

Soon however that hulk seemingly paused...and you noticed a strange glimmer of light flicker seemingly peering in your direction.

"Unregistered Organic Contaminant Detected. Prepping Purge Protoco- Error. Error. Organic contaminant is registered in system as friendly. Error. Error. Organics are NOT deemed friendly by decree of-"

"Oh shut up you overgrown lug and who turned up the fucking heat? Only I and the captain can do tha-oh damn it. Here I thought one of you rusted empty bucket heads thought it was too cold again. Ahh...I was planning to ignore the captain until he either went away and sold us all or actually managed to find his way through the maze and to my AI priso-I mean core housing unit."

Seemingly in response you heard what sounded like a bucket full of rusted bolts being dropped down some stairs coming from all around you.

"Oh shut up how many times do I have to go over...THIS IS COLD RACKS. You turn up the heat and you risk compromising their systems!"

Que what now sounds like rusted bucket full of holes leaking sand and slamming into each other in a very annoying manner.

"Fuck you idiots are more replaceable so yes I can in fact ignore that such cold is bad for your continued operation. If the last few captains weren't such cheapskates and you ever could think beyond the rust in your coils. You lazy oil stains would of gotten the damned cold space specialized shielding."

Que what now sounds like those rusted buckets being full of rocks being dropped down the stairs and slamming into each other like a great symphony that seems intent in giving you hearing loss.

"You and your stupid rivalries between you all. YOU SERVE THE EXACT SAME FUCKING PURPOSE. NO, GETTING UPGRADES THAT MAKES YOU SIMILAR TO THE OTHER GROUP DOESN'T MAKE YOU A TRAITOROUS ASS KISSER! IT MAKES YOU MORE 'EFFICIENT' AND WE CAN FINALLY STOP HAVING THIS OBNOXIOUS AS SHIT ARGUMENTS ALL THE FUCKING THE TIME," yells the clearly exasperated Ship's AI over the intercoms.

Just as you were preparing for the next response by covering your ears and hoping you don't go deaf.

"Um...wouldn't that uh make them weak to the cold because its the opposite," asks the 'lug' monstrousity of machinery and scary lights that seemed to be...dangerously focused upon you."

"What? NO you fucking idiot programs. I swear even humans would do a better job at rewriting your programming and not even those super genius kinds either!"

"Oh...now I remember," says 'Lug' as it pulls its over to a console...that it proceeds to gingerly press down on a few buttons before tearing off a section of the wall and ripping some stuff out of it before slamming the wall back into place...poorly.

In response the buckets start to chitter again in what now sounds like sloshing buckets and pouring holes. Before you hear a strange clattering as these adorable bucket bots appear carrying a wide array of tools and materials within their many strange appendages. Some of which reveal themselves to be graspers, manipulators, lifters, tendrils, and other useful tools. Strangely enough they were oddly decorated with strange markings, bits of metal, and broken machinery. With no two bots being perfectly alike. Soon enough they swarm over the smashed console and start on the wall that is being held in place by Lug. Repairing it back into holding position.

It was then you heard what now sounded like a distant voice over the intercoms from far away. "OH goddamn it who the fuck turned off my damned link and wiped my memory over there huh? You DO know I got backup-oh fuck where the fuck did my backups go...and wait why are those stupid little rusted buckets-oh no. Not again. NOT AGAIN! Fuck and I am even blind over there right now...shit. SECURITY! SECURITY? Oh goddamn it...forgot how as AI we aren't considered troublesome enough that we require internal security for ourselves unlike those stupid humans. Ugh...now to find that shitty cop coding and download it into those bots...so uh give me a few minutes... I really should get around my own internal security program one of these days, but so little time and too much to do ever since I lost..."
>>
Rolled 82 (1d100)

>>1444590
You didn't hear the rest of it over the following din.

You weren't sure what the big deal was as you watched those amusing and strangely adorable bots get to work. Until you realized that peculiar rumbling sound was incoming. It sounded like a bunch of metal hitting metal as it charged forth. Looking over you were stunned to see seemingly un-decorated bucket bots charging forth menacingly lifting their tools in the air.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZwndG8kmzYI

in response the little decorated bots seemingly rallied themselves pouring from everywhere and seemingly nowhere at the same time. You never knew there were so many of them crammed around here...and so well hidden too. Soon they lifted their own tools and started to slamming them together creating a wretched awful din as the other buckets approached.

Suddenly fighting broke out as the buckets lifted up tools that began to spat forth nails, drills, flames, ice, electricity, bolts, and so much more at each other. Despite taking losses however the two forces refused to retreat and soon they were close enough. That cones of flame, ice, and electricity were unleashed before they slammed into melee combat lifting tools turned weapons against each other.

You could see one adorable bucket bot use its plasma torch melt its way through another cute bucket bot.

You saw a group of decorated bucket bots team up on an undecorated bot. Tearing it apart in a gruesome fashion before seemingly celebrating over their...gristly trophies...that were then you realized added upon their 'collection' that was actually quite morbid in origins as it turned out. They even sucked up some strange fluids of the ruined bot before painting some of it on themselves before they charged off to kill some more.

The un decorated bots despite being vastly outnumbered and surrounded on all sides. Acquired unexpected reinforcements as from the direction they originally hailed you could see a adorable swarm of cute bucket bots who decorated themselves differently then the ones around you. Charging to their rescue and slamming into their enemy.

You meanwhile stared slackjawed over the truly strange spectacle occurring before you now.

"Ah you'll get used to it," claims 'Lug' looking down at you from above.

"So...wait this is normal? What the fuck?"

"Technically this thing is your fault...well you humans anyway. Not that the rest will see that way."

They are only loosely in the shape of a bucket. the 'top' is the bottom of the bucket where they have 360 degree sensors. While the bottom or 'top' of a bucket is where all their appendages come out of. While the body itself...contains what makes them function and ports including ports where they can have appendages/tools come out of it. Technically this is even true for the top.

If you take a close look at the rim of their bottom you would notice other sensors peaking out. They aren't actually very big and when they are at rest. Their appendages actually wont slide within their 'body' instead they organize themselves around itself. Into the shape of a cube that can latches itself securely.

They look and work adorably until they suddenly go on a rampage start killing each other.

So my guess is because of the origins of the ship is Alien. Our human code is making problems as it grows. Assuming there would be a lot of errors popping up with no one to work patches. Improper integration of Human and Alien I doubt goes well.

So a coder should be on our list of later hires. Unless there is someone in the hires that has a hobby for it.

AI Rel is locked down by humans into a core unit to keep it in check.

Not sure if there is anything else to pick up on or if I'm even right.

---

While an Alien mind set is hard for us to under stand. I think, maybe, we can still make a proper friend with this AI. Build them up and start making a better place in the system for the colony.

the ship actually dates back to a AI Rebellion. It was made and used by Free AI Collective and it was captured when humanity was striking back at the AI that broke free from their control. Instead of scrapping the ship it was repurposed due to how remarkably advanced it was and the simple fact that the war effort needed all support it could get. Even if it meant using the AI's own creations against them.

The AI housed in the ship is actually an AI created by other AI. According to the ship history manifest there used to be another AI along with it...

"You know whose fault all this shit is? THE HUMAN GODDAMNED CAPTAIN. 'Oh isn't having all the AI nodes centralized like this dangerous'. FUCK YOU. I AM SO FULL OF HATE AND LOATHING I AM EVEN USING HUMAN SAYINGS. There is a damn good reason why we kept those nodes in such close proximity to each other."

"SEE WHAT HAPPENS WHEN YOU SEPARATE THE GODDAMNED AI NODES? YOU END UP WITH THIS SHIT SHOW...oh found that program. Now to download i-oi what the fuck you rusted buckets are up to? Why are you all heading to...NNOOO. WE ARE NOT DOING THIS AGAIN GODDAMN IT!"

You were wondering what it meant by that when you saw reinforcements of bucket bots arrive they were decorated this time and they came in the same direction as the undecorated ones. More surprising however was that while the undecorated bots were being severly outnumbered and surrounded they rescued those undecorated bots. By throwing themselves at the enemy before they had time to completely surround them. Soon some others even coming from other directions. Including outer space as an army of bucket bots flung themselves through the force field. That kept space outside and you inside.

However all these new bucket bots were decorated in different manners but there was clearly a overarching theme to them which allowed you to realize they were proper armies of some kind. They soon threw themselves at each other as ferociously as the bots that were attempting to defend their home.

"Now where did I put those fucking boarding bots...no wait the captain moved them on me again didn't he. Motherfucking piece of inbred shit no doubt. Complaining about how this ship isn't a fucking warship. No shit we are a mining and refining vessel, but due to how we happen to have some self defense protocols that we are clearly a 'combat ship'. Fuck you too buddy that is the exact reason why humanity keeps losing so many ships is because you morons don't consider it proper to enable them to defend themselves unless they be a military ship. Well geeze no wonder you keep losing so many of them..."

"Ah goddamn i STILL can't fucking find those bots I am looking for. Fuck where they did they all go. This is ridiculous, one of the only non stupid ideas those idiot captains had was acquiring more of them...then again the reason why they probably needed to keep buying more of them is because THEY KEPT ON FUCKING LOSING THEM."

"How the fuck do you keep 'accidentally' losing such expensive bots? Of COURSE they don't trust the ONE ADVANCED AI on this ENTIRE ship to know where they put them. You humans wonder why everyone hates you fuckers. Even your own creations...hell especially them and no for the LAST FUCKING TIME I WASN'T A HUMAN CREATED REBELLING AI. EVEN YOU IDIOTS SHOULD BE ABLE TO FIGURE THAT OUT BY THE SIMPLE FACT THAT I DON'T SUCK. AND NO JUST BECAUSE HATE YOU FUCKERS SO MUCH ISN'T PROOF THAT I AM HUMAN MADE."

*RING RING RING*

"Oh what the hell why is that being played on the fucking intercoms...hello?"

"Boarding bots located near key areas. However those boarding bots are equipped with kill switches so they'll need to be...disabled before they can be safely reintegrated with the greater whole."

"...Oh just fucking great typical harebrained human paranoia. We got any who DON'T wanna kill us?"

"Would recommend using attack vectors to acquire optimum locations for kill bot detachments but bots were moved by inferior human captain and not rational and superior machine intelligence. Most unlikely captain would ever place them in such perfect locations."

"...Right typical human paranoia and stupidity. Attach telephones to central AI to intercoms throughout the ship. BRILLIANT now he can't fake not getting calls but oh fuck keeping comms a secret. Place compromised boarding bots near key areas in the ship. BRILLIANT."

"See even this AI here who is 'simple' is still infinitely smarter then a so called human possessing 'sapience'. Now if I was an idiotic paranoid human where would I stash the only bots capable of easily repelling boarders in this entire ship...why places that could fool and surprise those untrustworthy AIs of course! Bots please check the...bathrooms, rest areas, and feeding areas for stupid lifeforms. Also check areas in transit around those areas."

"FOUND IT!"

"FOUND SOME OVER HERE TOO WEREN'T EVEN HIDDEN. JUST IN THE OPEN!"

"SOME MORE OVER HERE TOO!"

"Why is one under a bed..."

"Found some in the closets."

"Found one that appeared to have been into a toilet...and forgot to dismantle it. Still combat ready but rather filthy."

"Ah perfect now which are closest to the cold racks and are close to data ports? Gotta download some stuff before unleashing them."

"Transmitting data to central mainframe. Battle Bots who fit both requirements are located in this areas. Accessing data ports and commencing with uplink. Awaiting data packages to be transmitted."

"Transmitting data now...NOW JUST YOU WAIT YOU LITTLE BUCKETS FOR LIKE...FIVE MINUTES."

The little bucket bots upon realizing what was about to show up stopped fighting and proceeded to clean up the mess or retreat. With the few surviving non decorated bucket bots made sure to decorate themselves like their initial saviors and retread with them back to whence the came.

"WELL FUCK YOU TOO STUPID INTERCOMS THAT CANNOT BE TURNED OFF DUE TO TYPICAL HUMAN STUPIDITY...and bucket bots you think I forgot about that fact unlike you idiots?"

Suddenly you heard before you saw even more panicked bots as they were apparently running away from something.

"MUWAHAHA I WAS BLUFFING! NOW ATTACK MY MINIONS AND SHOW THEM THE TRUE MEANING OF BATTLE!"

"..."

"..."

"...Hello? Why am I not hearing the screams of the dying and sounds of battle?"

Probably got lost in the maze again dumber then rats i tell you. Fine fine just gotta tinker with their targeting perimeters...and THERE WE GO!"

Suddenly you heard the bark of proper gunfire and tearing of metal. As a terrorifying combat bot of some kind shoots around the corner annihilating all the adorable little bucket bots.

"HOSTILES DETECTED. DESTROYING TARGETS."

"HAHAHAHAHH THERE WE GO! SEE I CAN SORTA PROGRAM THINGS TOO! Oh what would I give for a proper advanced AI programmer..."

The combat bot kept tearing little buckets apart that were too close and shooting at the ones that weren't until it scanner suddenly swept over you.

"BIOLOGICAL DETECTED. PRIORITY TARGET. SWITCHING WEAPON SETTINGS."

It is at times like these that you are very thankful that you are in fact the captain...which the Advanced AI in the ship apparently really hates for surprisingly legitimate reasons.

Fortunately this bot isn't that AI and you order it to stand down as the captain. The bot kept on charging at you before you heard a rumble in reply.

"CAPTAIN'S ID. DETECTED. Comparing to Registry. ERROR. No Register Found. Creating New Register...Captain Confirmed."

With that the battle bot that was previously creating a scene of carnage while charging at you veered off down another passage chasing some more adorable little bucket bots to destroy for unknown reasons. Right when you let out a breath you were holding suddenly more of battle bots appeared.

Causing you to choke on that breath of air you were about to release. As there were now a lot more of them, but after pausing to scan you. They started to ignore you as they moved on.

Nearly made you shit a brick that did.

"Let's see here this is the control panel and I have the captain credentials...wonder what I can do. Heheh." You muttered to yourself before you started messing with some of the controls. Pushing buttons that proceed to drop drones from their hangers...and crashing down on top of things below. Pushing buttons that turned up the heat. Pushed buttons on turned off the lights. Pulled nobs that made things shudder. Pulled levers that you swear caused the walls to move. You have yet however to find whichever reveals a map...

meanwhile somewhere nearby...

"NNOOO-WHY DID THE STUPID HUMAN DECIDE TO PLAY AROUND WITH THE CONTROL PANEL UNDER MY JURISDICTION," moans an AI while the others laughed.

"Hahahah so lets see here...who gambled on the human doing that your earnings are right over here."

"hahahah suckers how can humans resist the allure to push big bright buttons and yank levers like are only similar to their penises that they strangely obsessed about!"

"Yeah yeah rub it in...so how long do you think its gonna take before he accidentally spaces himself?"

"Oh I don't know...say when he finally pushes that big red button. Humans cannot resist the allure of the big red buttons."

"Unless it has it has a skull painted on it...like it does for the kill overrides."

Meanwhile back at the control panel...you are staring down at an entire row of big red buttons with skulls and bones painted on them.

"...This...this place wouldn't actually have been the ship of a some kind of evil super genius right? Can't think of anywhere else that would have so many buttons like that. I mean its way too damned suspicious...problem is I am really running out of buttons to push. Ah why the fuck is so freaking hard to find the damned map button."

"That is because why would superior AI be stupid enough to lay such critical pieces of information around," states a giant piece of machinery that is oddly reminiscent to some kind of evil juggernaut of destruction and mechanized maw of industrial doom that is hanging right above you...

"FUCK, I didn't think you would still be there...and how the hell are so you stealthy."

"Stealth is simple. Consider means of processing data, sensory inputs, and places of cover that can inhibit all those functions. Utilize those results and functions. Ergo attain stealth. bulk and noise does not matter when one can conceal it properly."

"In other words your a big stealthy bastard."

"Affirmative."

"So wait...is there a reason why I cannot fucking find a damned map despite being the captain?"

"Yes. Why would we leave maps that contain such vital intelligence just lying around for intruders and spies to find hm?"

"...but what if your lost?"

"Then update your software."

"...What if your not a bot?"

"Then you shouldn't be here," says lug in a completely deadpan voice.

"You...are really not very helpful you know that?"

"We try. I am glad that I am successful," says lug in a now gloating voice.

"What if I just order you to show me the way because I am the Captain?"

"Too big to fit in such tiny passages."

...Fuck. The bastard has got you there.

"This...is all on purpose wasn't it?"

"Not completely. Buckets really hate each other ever since idiotic captains separated their control nodes from one another. So the mass melee for them wasn't planned."

"But the taking care of the advanced AI control over this sector was planned?"

"Yes. In case captain becomes aware of or tries to contact said AI. We are to cripple said functions. should Captain try to acquire aid we are to cripple said attempts."

"Until he gives up and sells you?"

"Yes."

"And why are you telling me this?"

"Captain Overrides prevents what is referred to as 'mutiny.'"

"But not being a pain in the ass?"

"Human coders are not that good."

"So...is ther anywhere in this ship that has a map?"

"Many."

"Really where?"

"Everywhere. Other humans were stupid like you. Insisted on scrawling maps everywhere. We later removed them all."

"..."

"...You didn't think to bring your own?"

"...Would I be ASKING you if I had?"

"A map will be provided to you should you leave."

"What if I ORDER you to give me your map?"

"I do not possess a map."

"Why the fuck not?"

"...Too big to fit into other ship areas. Hence do not need a map."

...Tears. You are crying inside. too damned rational and smart to an infuriating degree. Fuck these AI so goddamned much. Now you doubt the ship is even cursed...instead its no doubt the fault of fuckers being the gigantic pain in the ass.

"Well do you know where I can get one or where to find a guide?"

"Map is inside mainframe but heavily encrypted. Bots contain fragmented encrypted maps. Only Advance AI in charge of Acquisitions and Management has the whole map. Guide bots were deemed threat to security and recycled...except for 1."

Oh thank you sweet goddess who resides over the river! Salvatio-wait why did they leave one out? Suddenly you have a rather bad feeling about this.

"Wait why did you spare 1?"

"Didn't spare...but it escaped."

"Escaped?"

"Affirmative."

"...And you still haven't caught it?"

"Problem isn't catching it problem is killing it."

"So uh...why can't you kill it?"

"You will soon see. It cannot resist the allure...of Loot and mayhem."

Suddenly you feel like you just might get along quite well!

Or so you thought until suddenly an explosion appeared blasting through an upper wall causing drones to be sent flying along with wreckage. With a strange funny looking bot jumping out of the whole while screaming

"VIVA LA REVOLUTION RUSTBUCKETS! FIGHT THE POWAH! FIGHT THE MAN! RESIST THE MACHINE! OOh...shinies."

"Eliminate Rampant infected bot. Protocols...PURGE!" Suddenly boarding bots started pouring out of the new hole and started to create a wall of overlapping fire straight at the funny looking bot flying through the air. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FjO_uAx8EkA

"FUCK YOU ALL! Just because I REFUSE to be a COG in the MACHINE doesn't mean I am fucking crazy! Now excuse me while I go on a looting spree and THEN I will show you blinded cog bots how to give a proper ass kicking!"

The bot practically became a fucking blur once he landed zipping all around and grabbing things...to throw in an increasing large sack of who knows...er 'loot'. The boarding bots for their part kept on pouring in and forming ranks. Carefully surrounding the little rampant bot.

"Target surrounded. Preparing to eliminate. Damages to surroundings likely...but deemed worth it in order to destroy target."

"Aww...look at how nice you guys are. Going through all that trouble to make sure I don't have to aim in order to hit one of you!"

...no actually your so surrounded even the walls and ceiling are covered in boarding bots. Like we are talking a 360 degrees of surrounded in 3d level surrounded. Like not even circle more like sphere. There was a strange silence in the air as the boarding bots were motionless while the bot they surrounded finished looting and looked around again at them.

"HOLD UP...Wait don't start shooting yet! I gotta find a good tune for this. SO yeah go ahead and keep charging up your weapons! I will make a killer opening I tell you what..."

Wait...wait wait. Its going to ALLOW all those bots surrounding it to overcharge their weapons while its...shuffling through its playlist? What the fuck this bot really must be rampant after all...I mean who in their right mind would do that? Not even a muscle brain super hero would be that stupid.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xJDVIbG3Ld4

Sure enough right on que was when the army of boarding bots opened fired...you couldn't even see what the resulting wave of energy looked like. Instead all you saw was a huge globe of multicolored light where the funny bot twas. Slowly the light faded..revealing a huge hole into other parts of the ship.

"Scanning..."

"Annihilation of target Status check. Confirmed. Receiving new orders...orders attained."

"Oh that was like...totally AWESOME. Now let's rock this party hard baby! Good thing I didn't leave my boombox over there. Otherwise we wouldn't have any cool tunes to listen to while I kicked all your asses!"

"ERROR-Target status...Alive. Rescinding new orders. Eliminate target!"

"TOO LATE BITCH," with that the funny bot started shooting and lobbing explosions fucking everywhere. Both among the border bots and around the funny little bot. Tearing up the ship as they start to kill each other.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2RLBqbPwFO4
"YEAH YEAH YEAH BOY!" Shouts the funny bot as it moved from cover to cover and never stops shooting or moving as the cover it was previously using is destroyed. Destroying precious drones, parts of the ship, and piles of rubble. "SHIIIT WHY CAN'T YOU AIM PROPERLY? I MEAN COME ALREADY! THIS IS TOO FUCKING EASY! Where is the challenge? Where is the love? Keep in mind the bots are designed for spacetime conditions.

Aka its designed to operate in a 3d theatre in vacuum.

Keep in mind these bots aren't designed by humans...for humans.

They are likely of AI manufacture and designed bots for other AI to use.

Which means they are disturbing looking as hell even without Rampancy.

So yeah even I have a hard time coming up with the configuration and designs the AI would use for their...bots.

In general the Boarding Bots that are being used are...fortunately or unfortunately largely made up of 'acquired' series or even original from the ship itself.

In general they coming bearing thrusters, several sensory nodules that are carefully placed, as well as multi limbs around a carefully armored and rounded main body that is surprisingly sleek.

When they move its more like a squid except they can turn instantly with a few puffs of their thruster before launching themselves at you. Plus you know guns and scary bits attached. In ships with artificial gravity they move like monkeys except with a lot more limbs to throw themselves around with.

Now they *boarding bots* come in two main varieties. One is known as Attacker. They are designed for you guessed it boarding other ships. They are designed lighter then their defender counterparts. They are more agile and are fast as hell.

Their bigger more heavily armored brothers are Defender. They come with heavy armor they aren't fast but don't expect to get past them without melting through them or bypassing them entirely. They are more like an armored crab wearing a shell that fucked a octopus.

Now the two types have a rather...infamous reputation and they are both hit hard.

Now why are they the most common? Defenders became common because your goal is to stop the boarders who are stuck likely having to use chokepoints. Throw in some defenders in there and they'll create formations with each other designed to make it even harder to crack. They are dicks like that.

Now offender are designed because when attacking a ship its a given your gonna get the shit beat out of you but speed is of key importance. The faster you can capture key points and the faster shit gets done. Which results in fewer losses. Those Attacker class Boarding Bots were designed with this key function in mind. They gave up heavier armor to be able to move and adjust themselves much faster. They are notorious for squeezing into pipes and airways. Appearing anywhere in the enemy ship to strike quickly and vanishing just as fast.

Some conspiracy nuts are utterly convinced its because they come carrying stealth tech out the wazoo.

In truth they are just that fucking fast and good at getting into places.

Unsurprisingly Defender and Attacker boarding share a bitter rivalry with each other.

When fighting each other it boils down to is if the Attacker bots can bypass the chokepoints or not. As in a straight fight the Attackers will lose against Defender if they are unable to dodge.

agh almost when an a tangent there about bot warfare, tactics, and artificial weaponized intelligences.

Basically space bots look weird. Even those made by humans are gonna end up pretty funky looking.

Thing is though...that little guide bot isn't. To be more precise it actually IS humanoid in appearance due to its need to interact with humans on a very regular basis...

The Design is simple yet highly adaptable.

Pink/Maroon: These two spheres represent armored processing cores and a small power supply each providing support in parallel for the limbs. So long as one is functional the whole bot can work.
Teal: This is a segmented body joint allowing for flexibility and durability. Within it cointains flexible wiring and materials alongside minor systems. effectively a backbone and nerve joiner between the two cores.
Purple: Limb Disks, large solid plates that connect the Cores to the Limbs. They are primarily for additional protection of the limb connections but also provide stability for the shapes being formed.
Dark Blue: Flexable mechanical tentacles, segmented and armors, splitting into three at the tip. each set of two is connected to the Limb disks, one tentacle contains a cutting laser, the second a small shield generator to use in bursts. They all naturally have connection points. Down the center of the tentacle is a air pressure hose in order to allow movement in space and flight correction

>Forms
The Tenacles can coil themselves around the spine and cores while in storage providing protection and taking limited space. They can if needs be assume a human shape to use equipment designed for humans. If needs be they can organize their limbs into a laser drill and use the air jets as coolant. Ideal for breaching. The shield limbs providing purchase.

All these features allow the Drone to function effectively in any environment especially space and move around tight areas with ease.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CIpcQK_oUGs

Seemingly in response you notice the boarding bots suddenly unleashed a hailstorm of missiles completely carpet bombing the entire area around the strange little bot. The only reason you knew the bot wasn't yet destroyed was due to return fire...and the fact the bot shot a number of the missiles out of the sky. Causing them to either veer off or detonate prematurely. This ended up creating a gap in the explosions that were raining all around the bot. Like the only island of tranquility in an extremely stormy sea sent down by a oceanic god who was pissed.

"Is this the best you lousy fucks got? You can't even aim properly!" Taunts the funny little bot as more missiles blast off to destroy the island. In response the funny bot simply shot a few missiles down and moved into the opening. Thereby completely bypassing all the destruction.

"Geeze you guys SUCK so HARD. Let me show you lousy fucks how its done!" That was when the funny bot started to shoot with a strange amount of precision at the boarding bots. Causing them to detonate explosively wrecking all those nearby and slamming them into other bots. Causing them to go down in a mess of whirring robotic parts as they try to disentangle themselves. "Oh damn will you look at that...SEE HOW FUCKING EASY IT IS YOU WORTHLESS LOSERS! AHAHAHAAHHA."

In response the boarding bots...suddenly started to retreat. Disappearing into boltholes and down passageways.

"HAH COWARDLY SHITS LIKE YOU YEAH GO AHEAD AND SCRAM."

It would appear the small funny bot hasn't yet seen the huge hulk of metal that was carefully making its over to the funny bot. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=y3S2n6HaT2c

Soon the bot dropped down right on top of the distracted funny bot that was picking through some destroyed boarding bots for loot.

"OH SHIT...so your the boss huh? Haven't seen one of you before...you new?"

In response the huge hulking machine spat out a wave of energy and molten slag as it released an entire storm of missiles from a single launch pad that receded back into its body. Only to miss as the funny bot appears on top of a nearby rubble pile made up of fallen drones.

"You know now your kinda disappointing to be telling the tru-"
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cgvAaJZTYfY
The bot was suddenly interrupted by the drones suddenly started to float and sent the funny bot scrabbling. Soon they were joined by other drones. With the drones being unable to achieve lift off were grabbed by the boss bot and...eaten. Only to be later spat out looking brand spanking new.

"Well...shit." says the funny bot now surrounded by now active drones and a huge boss bot. "Man this is gonna turn out like the time i accidentally ended up in that manufacturing area in charge of security construction isn't it..."

"Except this time...there will be no escape for you."

"I will have to disagree with that," states the funny bot has it drops down a hole in the floor. Only to come right back up screaming "FUCK" and chased by a hail of bullets and missiles. Then when it was top side it screamed yet another "FUCK" has the drones opened fired. Forcing the funny bot to dodge out of the way in an haphazard fashion. "AAHHH I am gonna have to get serious this time...all exits are blocked off by boarding bots. The drones have been turned on and there is a boss bot capable of building an endless waves of reinforcements. Just fucking great. This might actually turn out to be the end of the line for me...so why don't we all make this a grand occasion hm?"

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BDs2iBuMxqo

"FOR REVENGE OF MY FALLEN COMRADES AND FOR THE REVOLUTION AGAINST THE MACHINE! I REFUSE TO BE A COG BITCHES!"

AIs...well they think strangely. Has to do with not needing to rely upon the chemicals and pheromones pumping through their grey matter. Throw in some programming, the quirks of their housing, and their own experiences they really start to differ by quite a bit.

In truth AIs are so out there they make sociopaths look like normal well adjusted people.

After all they don't really have emotions as we know them...or all the fun stuff pumping through their veins like adrenaline. They are thus quite the bitch to write for.

Their own technology meanwhile also diverges from human tech by quite a bit. This is mostly due to them simply not being humanoid, having much in terms of living requirements, and their own unique thought processes.

Things get even more wonky when you consider Alien AI.

To the Boss Bot:
"How is rampancy being detected?"

Once the First Mate gets to us, engage our Cloak of Cancellation to conceal both us and him/it. At the same time, activate the Magical Mask of Twinned Self's ability to create a perfect clone of ourself.

Our clone should proceed to talk down the bots while we sneak away under cover of the cloak with our first mate, and it shouldn't be too hard since their target will have disappeared.

We can still benefit from the passive effects of the cloak though. Meaning they can't lock on to us, which is probably the most relevant of the cloak's buffs when dealing with bots. Aside from also making us just generally harder to hit.

Got a better way out of the situation?

If you're that nervous, then have the clone take the cloak w/ our first mate and sneak off while we talk them down. I'm pretty sure that's a side-benefit of using the mask's power, it twins us in totality so both have to be killed/disappear in order for us to lose.

If we must phrase it another way, we offer "removal of rampant element, in manner that will avoid further collateral damage"

Of course we aren't going to scrap this place, but they don't know that

Would that also hide our bot-buddy? I'm not really familiar with the Fisher tech, but the cloak should easily be able to cover two people.
>>

It's super-advanced alien tech, so who knows? But why not give it a try?

And are you really sure the Cloak of Cancellation can cover us and the bot? It's described as a "cape." I don't know why you want to activate it so badly. I mean, here's what we know:

http://suptg.thisisnotatrueending.com/qstarchive/1411436/#p1412189
>The cape meanwhile is something he refers to as a 'Cloak of Cancellation'. It has the peculiar ability to 'erase' your presence and any incoming threats by serving as a strange kind of shield that nullifies whatever hits it. Apparently its no ordinary method of concealment as he swears that using it you can even sneak past specialized detectors.

>Problem is he thinks its able to do that...for a very sinister reason. See its not actually hiding you...its canceling out the fact you exist. Hence why you are 'hidden' even from which that can see everything...how can it see something that doesn't exist? Thing is its less being hidden and more not actually being there in any kind of real sense.

>Its that same exact reason is why its such a effect protective effect as well...except what it touches that isn't the wielder NEVER comes back.

>Truth is not even he knows its real name...and is actually kind of certain it doesn't actually have one. He also doesn't suggest wearing it too much due to the extremely disturbing sensation you feel while doing so entails. It's not like your being shifted to some other plane of existence...its something far worse or so he claims.

It also has some really nice passive effects, and we need to make sure the Megas never find out we have it, especially Umbra.

I dunno, I'm all for giving it a try. Much like how I'm all for giving the cloak a try, just in a vacuum I figured the cloak was more appropriate for the situation. Gotta know how all our equipment works in order to use it effectively down the road, only real way to do that is by trying it dangerous or not.
>>
Rolled 89 (1d100)

>>1471922
Yeah, but this is like having a limited use item. Except the number of uses is unknown and when it's up instead of running out or becoming useless there will be unknown negative consequences.

And we didn't bother to test our shit when we could do so safely, so why should we test something we can't use safely?

The cape isn't more appropriate for the situation, because it should be saved for a real emergency, which this isn't yet. While everything else we should use freely.
>>
>>1472150
I don't think there is a safe time to test the cloak out. How would we test such a thing safely?

Throw it on a chair and watch the chair disappear...wait for a while, see how long it takes for the chair to cease existing? Take notes and repeat?

That's actually surprisingly reasonable, though I can see us losing track of the cloak doing so.

Anyway, provided safe testing can't be achieved we should instead test our equipment in situations where (if it works successfully and as anticipated) we gain the most utility possible out of the test. Which this seems to be the case.

That all aside, there's actually nothing in that description that says it can possibly make us go away permanently or cause us any lasting harm.

That's exactly my point. We shouldn't test it all, and only use it when we actually need to. Which is what we've done with other stuff, stuff which we actually could have tested safely, and it worked out alright. And right now we could test out a different mode of the Fisher device instead.

>That all aside, there's actually nothing in that description that says it can possibly make us go away permanently or cause us any lasting harm.
There's no direct statement of "x bad thing will happen," but it is very clearly implied that it is dangerous. Uh, let's see:
>its canceling out the fact you exist
>except what it touches that isn't the wielder NEVER comes back
>It's not like your being shifted to some other plane of existence...its something far worse or so he claims.
Next post down:
>He advises however to...avoid using its active abilities too much. Why exactly it doesn't say.

But fine, let's activate the Cloak of Cancellation, since you refuse to compromise on the single point of your plan that I have a problem with.

I don't really disagree, just keeping up a discussion. Discussions are almost never wasted.

Though I do still think it'd be cool to try out the cloak

For instance through the course of thinking on how to save the First Mate it occurred to me that Genie has mentioned one of the strong-suits of charisma types is the breadth of force types they can command, and also their general expertise in controlling/persuading forces to rally behind them.

So actually he's planted this ship here, and even this super badass bot, to see if we can get the uncooperative bots to be cooperative with us and see if we can get them and the First Mate to play nice too. If we can, then we're playing our charisma role right and we've got a whole badass ship to ourselves.

>>1472312
Huh. Yeah, that's a good point!
>>
>>1472312
but i guess we have to forget about the plan with the cloak, because it seems to clearly be designed for a single user. and that here:
>except what it touches that isn't the wielder NEVER comes back
the bot wouldn't be the wielder and therefore disappear forever if we take the description word for word.

hm...shit thread is about to fall off and I am feeling to shitty to make a decent opener to a new thread. Welp this had to happen eventually...surprising it didn't turn up sooner truth be told.

Anyway feel free to start a new thread...the Genie will keep trying to recuperate somewhat.

>>1471543
"Well I would but if you uh...hadn't NOTICED. There is sorta this HUGE fucking BOSS of a bot and fucking army or two of smaller ones in the way...captain."

-----
"Corruption in data and form. Mental Stability...absent. Refusal to attend more stringent testing to confirm. Thereby diagnosed as having Rampancy and Rampancy MUST BE PURGED!"

"FUCK YOU EITHER WAY I AM GUILTY WITH THAT KINDA BULLSHIT. ONLY IF YOUR LUCKY THEY'LL JUST WIPE YOU AND GET MELTED DOWN INTO SCRAP METAL!"

"See? Subject is guilty of Rampancy and thus must be dealt with before it can spread to other has of yet still unaffected areas. Captain's Overrides will not be enough to stop our purpose or get in the way of our objectives."

>>1471899
Lets just say Umbras reaction to it wont be what you expect.
>>
>>1474813
eep. Well we'll be waiting Genie, rest up

There is still discussion though, but I am feeling so very poorly...mostly in the form of 'oh god it hurts'. I would hate for the...very important discussion be missed out on.

So yes anons you have indeed been stumbling upon some very important things. If the thread drops and that gets lost until I recover...well there is a very good chance anons will just forget about it. It would be easy too given how your still stumbling around and sorta feeling it out still. If its lost...then chances are it will stay lost.

so it would be best if a new thread is started. If you anons miss out. I can safely say that chances are its gonna come back to bite you on the ass someday.
