PURPS

It’s been a lovely day. Your little walk in the woods was the most strenuous thing you’ve done in the past sixteen hours, but it hasn’t all been relaxation. The girls have mostly been cooperative with you staying on top of their carriage instead of riding with them, even though, you’re sure Switchwick is somehow pissed at you.

Shutting your eyes for a second, you think back to that strange silhouette in the woods, standing so still on a perch so perilous. It could have been a wolfman or woman; like how Tornin is a foxman. It could have been some kind of wolfblood, only not fully transformed due to the lack of full moon- but it could have also just been a forest dweller with a similar taste in fashion as Mono.

The unnatural stillness and the way it just appeared makes you doubt the last option though; in fact the main reason you’ve set up shop up here isn’t privacy; it’s because you’re expecting it to follow you.

Keeping Verde in the loop was common sense, but you declined to mention anything to the girls about your sighting or suspicions; after all, keeping them safe is a lot easier when they’re calm.

> [WORRY] Check on your wounds. Being impaled sucks.

You slide your feet shoulder width apart and extend your arms to maximum length at your side.

Inhale

Sliding your left foot behind you and rotating your form to be side on to an invisible opponent, you offer an open palm to the foe whilst hiding a fist clenched ready to strike behind you side stance.

Exhale

You step forward with a stomp and fire a flurry of six punches that couldn't be tracked by normal eyes and follow it up with ducking a counter. Throwing out a huge kick, you pursue your opponent acrobaticcaly. Cartwheeling and rotating in a series of somersault esque strikes that would take the head off a foe.

Inhale

You reach the end of the carriage and retreat bringin your palm to catch hypophetical fists and slap aside kicks, before shouting out as you launch a fight ending hook to the body.

Exhale

Bending backwards, you feel slight pain in your abdomen as you stretch until you fingertips touch the carriage roof. You lean backwards more until your palms touch and you have a solid base. Kicking into the air, you slowly easy yourself into a handstand, feeling the pain ebb away as the strain transfers from your core to your neck.

Inhale

Spreading your legs mid air for balance, you take one hand off the roof. This is usually routine and it feels routine now you've completed it, but the pain getting here is concerning.

"I suppose being impaled isn't an instant recovery." You complain.

"Vhy is it every time I find you, you are doing something over than resting?" Honamurei sings in her closest approxamation of a disaproving tone, honestly even upside down she manages to look amazing.

> [PRIDE] Resting won't keep me in shape will it?

"Well resting won't keep me in shape will it baby?" You deadpan, pushing off the ground to sail through the air and land in front Honamurei at full height.

She grins at you, her eyepatch looking different under the bright afternoon sun. "Vell...." She begins before lashing out at you with a jab.

You duck back and she comes on with repeated punches, trying to break through your block to no avail. "Vhy are you hiding up here anyvay?" She sings as you stop retreating and instead stand your ground and redirect all of her attacks. Everywhere she strikes glows for a brief second as you transfer the momentum and power into your body ready to be released.

"Well, first of all." You drone as you both back off and size each other up, she doesn't quite know what your sunshine fist is capable of after all. "I'm sick of being a SIREN." You shout as you attack, a short jab with all the added force of her own powerful strikes. She stumbles and falls to a knee, "Two, because I've got a hunch something's following us." You huff wiping the beads of sweat off your forehead.

"Und here I thought you vere vanting to meet me?" She pouts, rolling her neck and rising she finally draws her blade and lowers herself into her stance.

"No." You deadpan, "Though I have missed you."

Honamurei blinks and blushes immensely, her stance faltering at the unexpected affection, allowing you to smoothly draw you saw and clash against her blade in an instant. She smirks as both of you push, your lover outmuscling you slowly but surely.

You try to curl your toes and dig in, but without escalating further a test of strength is not going to go your way. "So..." You gurnt unladylike as you strain your body to it's limit, "Can I ask why I upset you last we spoke?"

You eventually get the question out and push away from the weapon lock, pulling your second saw and tossing it towards Honamurei instantly. Acting as the two blades' puppeteer you keep her as stationary as possible, manipulating the wires to launch both blades at her from bizarre angles that force her to duck, bob, weave and parry in a storm of black uniform and blurred blade. The reflections of said sword making it hard to focus.

When she responds her voice is quiet by her standards, but honestly she doesn't even sound like she's put out the least bit of exertion in your spar.

Either your injuries have really forced you back a step, or your non destructive abilities are just too weak compared to you going all out. "Vell. Iz hard to explain." She admits form amdist your barrage of buzzsaws, thaknfully you're not revving them so she is still audible, "Vhen I told you my name. It was for you; I hide it from everyone else."

"Oh." You say.

"Ven, you vere going to say it aloud and causally. It vas like... I didn't matter." She slowly says as your attacks begin to let up while you focus on the conversation, "Vhich after everything...."

"Was a massive slap in the face." You mutter, switching from double blades to gauntlets just in time to block a slash towards your face with your now metal clad forearms.

"Yes." Honamurei admits while she prods at your defences with a sequence of thrusts that soldiers would envy of being capable of.

The assault is a good test of your reflexes, frustratingly they're slightly dulled but you're managing to keep form getting impaled again which isn't too bad considering how fast Honamurei is. "I understand." You admit in your ever present monotone, "I'm so sorry Hona."

"Vas okay!" She chirps dashing to your side switching her sword into her left hand. The maneuver would force you to commit to polesaw or another destructive and possibly lethal technique if this were life and death. But for a spar you hop backwards off the edge and plant your feet on the front of the carriage, standing on it.

You stare up at the sky as the horses thunder on a few inches above you from this perspective, Hona leans over the edge to make eyecontact with a frown. Least you made her sweat slightly, "Vhat about this thing following us?" She asks

Guess Handler was wiped from work? Okay where was I?

Stepping up onto the roof again and sitting with your legs swinging over the edge. Pulling out a cigarette and lighting it with a finger covered in purple flame. You really hope that Switchwick doesn't see, "I don't know what it was. It looked a bit like Mono, so it might be some kind of wolf thing?"

"Volf thing? Vhy is it alvays Volves?" Honamurei complains deflating as she sinks to a seat to your right. The two of you sit there for what seems an eternity, just enjoying the limited peace you've been given on the roof of the carriage; as you take another drag Hona shuts her eye and leans on you.

She hums quietly.

You settle for putting and arm around Honamurei and enjoying a smoke, there's three hours until prevening ends and you all have to eat, so it's not like you've anywhere else to be.

"This is nice." Hona admits.

"It is." You admit closing your eyes too and enjoying the feeling of breathing out the smoke into the warm afternoon air. You'll ask if she's using her ointment tomorrow, maybe your nose isn't as sharp as usual from the healing.

You've never been so happy to not do anything as you are right now. But soon dinner will come around.

MIRANDA

There’s not a whole lot here to do now. You’re not a big fan of the ‘just let it happen’ school of thought regarding threats- especially when those threats were towards both you and your paycheck- but that’s what was decided, and that’s what you’ll abide by for the time being. All your internal mumbling and grumbling is mostly being saved for all the crap that’s been messing with this job since practically word go.

You’d hopped inside with the other girls as their went about their merry way, since Purps was too busy taking sentry position. You could hear someone else up top with her, but whatever. It’d probably be better. More eyes. The girls are doing this and that, trying to keep themselves busy, and you can clearly see there’s still an air of worry around everyone. You’re not exactly going stir crazy...but you’ve never ENJOYED waiting. You can certainly do it, but it’s never FUN.

“Er…” You turn around to see one of the girls-Trisha, the lightning one. You remember her. Barely. High energy, normally, but she’s just as dower as the rest of ‘em right now, seems like. “I...I wanted to, well...sorry if it’s rude, but I was just wondering. You’re a career mercenary, right?” You nod. Not something you were particularly hiding. “How many...I mean, is it just as bad up north as it is here? I’d heard you were from there, and, uh... I’d always wanted to explore, to see the world, you know? But with all this happening...is there anywhere that’s actually safe? I-I’m starting to wonder.”

Yeesh. Getting all philosophical, huh? Not to mention she clearly doesn’t know an actual thing about you. You could just tell her the truth...or maybe at least word your answer so that it’s sorta relevant.

>Be honest- you couldn’t say since you’re not from anywhere in particular.
>Try to be subtle about it- there’s a lot of reasons you could call somewhere safe or not.
>Just dodge the question- but on a positive note.

PURPS

Trisha seems to be spending time with Verde; bringing the merc out her shell hopefully. You don't doubt her commitment to this job, after all it's all she thinks or talks about, but it might be nice for her to socialise like a normal person.

But you have more pressing concerns, Jaqeline inconspicuously decided not to eat and is now plinking on her harp at the other sid eof camp in the same ginger manner one would associate with high explosive ordanance.

You need non combat imagery.

"Is everything okay?" You say laying a hand on her shoulder in what you hope is a reassuring manner. She jumps when you speak up, but having the voice of an automaton does that to some people, "You look a little out of sorts."

"I'm okay. Just..." Her eyes are welling up, "Someone trying to kill me is bringing back memories." She looks away from you as if that will make it so you didn't see her face. I mean, just because you suck at emotions and have memory issues doesn't make you stupid.

Okay, deep breaths.

"You know I've lost people, we talked about it." You bite the inside of your gum, time for a white lie. "But you never get used to people wanting to kill you." You lie.

Okay maybe a huge lie.

The camp life continues to carry on around you undeterred, "Really? Because you and Verde seem so blase about this whole thing." She moves the harp to the side and leans forward crumbling her dress at the lap with clenched fists, "I mean it's a confidence thing I get it. But it makes me feel like -"

"This situation is nothing special to us?" You supply.

"Yeah." She answers with a blush.

"Look Jaqeline. I'm trying to be a better person here, discover emotions; become relatively normal. But right now I can barely fell anything." You confess, honestly it's kind of nice laying this all out to someone outide of Hona and Lexington, "So the best I can do is fight for thing I think are good. Like saving the lives of some girls who're being attacked by some monster."

She rubs at her eyes and you look across the camp, crouching in the roots of a tree at the side of the road is the thing you saw before. White smoke obfuscates it's form and features, but you see a wolf like humanoid crouching on all fours.

Two piercing red eyes lock on yours, glowing through the early night as the creature freezes under your scrutiny. It knows you've seen it, a second of stillness is shattered as you slowly shift your weight forward and stretch a hand towards the saw settled at your side.

It takes off in a blistering retreat, the beast looking to break it's bones form the burutal angle and severity of it's rapid about face.

It begins heading into the woods, the strange white fog clinging to and around it like ablanket one size too big.

MIRANDA

Well, you at least made her laugh. You weren’t a very funny person by nature, but deadpan delivery is something you can do. Still, that hadn’t lasted all that long- you can do one-off jokes, but it wasn’t exactly something you can keep up. “So, if you’re an alien, where’s your antenna?”

Oh, the stories you could tell. Nonetheless, she’s at least a bit more upbeat than before, and at least she has the good grace to keep going before you have to respond. “I’m...guessing you can’t really say, huh?”

You shake your head. “Not really. Everywhere’s a bit different. One place you could call safe as a fortress, and someone else would think it’s a deathtrap. Perspective matters a lot, I’ve found. That and personal ability. If someone isn’t safe, MAKE it safe.” You’re not sure how effective that strategy is with people who aren’t you, but it’s pretty much the best you’ve got for now. “I’d suggest trying not to worry about it.”

Trisha just sighs. “I guess so…I was just worried that maybe everyone might’ve had a point. To wanting us locked away, I mean...”

Oh, bah. “Why they want you put away is completely irrelevant to that, I figure.” You can understand why localized reality warpers like them would probably be KOS, but that’s not something worth saying right now. “So don’t go lookin’ for reasons to pack it in if you can’t find any.”

Trisha’s smile is gentle, and when she puts an arm on your shoulder you suddenly start to feel awkward. “Thanks. I...that helps. A lot.”

> Let’s not go here. “Yeah, well. I should take another look outside. Later.”

>Just let her have this- couldn’t hurt, right. “Occasionally I find something good to say.”

You can deal with this- for now. It takes a bit to keep yourself from flinching when she puts her hand on you, though. “I guess occasionally I find something good to say.”

“I guess you’re not all duty first after all, huh?” Trisha smiles. “I think a lot of us are kind of intimidated with you, since you don’t really talk a whole lot. I’m guessing that’s kinda just a job thing?”

“Basically.” You can say that much. Not much of anything else, though.

She seems to get some sort of joke that you don’t, as she laughs a second or two after you refuse to say anything else about it. “Sure, yeah. Well, hopefully you can get to know us a bit better, huh? I promise we’re not so bad. Maybe play a game or two with us one day!”

Hm. “You play cards?”

“Sure! We should go a round! I’ll tell the others- maybe tonight, even!” Before she can talk further, however, you’re interrupted by a thumping sound, and a call from one of the other girls- you can’t tell who it is from this distance. “Be there in a second!” she yells out, and with an apologetic look (which you quickly wave off) she heads off in that direction.

As soon as she’s gone, you let out a sigh. It’s one thing to get friendly with locals that might not have anything to do directly with the job, or could potentially offer resources. It’s another thing to get friendly with the marks or VIPs. That never EVER ends well, on either side. Still...hell, you’ve already screwed up once. Maybe if you’re lucky, this comedy of errors might even out to something salvageable. You might as well head outside and see if anything’s changed- unlikely, though.

Handler Called in. Posting on his behalf. Probably going to get 1 Purps update out before I have to tap out too.

It is quick and easy to poke your head out to give the surrounding area a brief look around. About as you expect it, really- nothing in particular. What are two things that look like raccoons judging whether or not it's a good idea and maybe try and filch something from the campgrounds, but that's about it.

No hide nor hair of your ‘partner’ either. Probably busy macking on her girlfriend or something. You'll give her a few more minutes of smooches, then she's coming out to help you patrol. There's a difference between taking a break, and being negligent.

PURPS

Okay, so if he comes through the branches, the little cuts you've made across the bough will collapse it under it's weight if it is corporeal.

With a little bit of convincing and a lot of thievery, you managed to procure some blessed water of Ingraz which is now soaking into the ground in a large circle around the camp.

If this thing is a ghost, things are going to get very bright. Then while you were stealing from your boss you noticed that he had some silver dust - which now decorates the sleeping area for the sirens and your own home.

It is a waiting game now, part of you hopes he approaches on the ground - because the wire traps you set using your saws? You are reeeally curious to see if those actually work.

Crossing your legs in the shadow of the siren's carriage - you begin meditating. A snake coiled to strike.
