One group of spearmen are not satisfied with their level of training. They petition you for more training to catch up to the more experienced and get the better of you. Even through the cold their dedication is truly inspiring even for the other shrooms who wait out the winter in the warming cave.

The more skilled spearmen help teach their less trained fellows and even have practice battles with regular sticks. You even join in for a few of the sessions, but prefer to just watch the "sparring" they call it.

The scientists continue to study the armor you bought from the molemen.

The collection of wood and vines is still slow due to the cold winter. But the gatherers work through it and collect some wood and vines for the crafting of wooden plates.

Wooden Armor
>(2/3)

---

The mud, and wood boxes you have created simply cannot do the job anymore. They are to fragile and break and melt to easily.

The scientific assistants have a theory. If they can get to the smelter at the mountain they could probably find a way to keep them from breaking so easily.

The scientists have become able to recreate the wooden armor. It is now possible to create a few suits of armor every season. The crafting process is rather awkward and hard to do for the large fingers of the shroom men but they manage.

The wooden armor is capable of deflecting some blows to the body, arms, and legs.

>Wooden Armor

---

The shrooms continue to pray to the Alter of Shrom, but they get no messages or visions. Your head priest of U-so, tired of the cave conditions, braves out to pray at the Sun Alter. He returns moments later and informs others that the sun has blessed you all again with the warming light.

As the cold begins to leave your shrooms regain their vigor and head out into the village. Now that winter is over you have a good focus for your newfound energy. A mine.

With the construction of a mine you should get a few units of stone and possibly even copper a turn without even having to order your troops to mine it. Heck they will probably even smelt it on their own without even being told to.

You order some of your shrooms to construct a real mine. Similar to the warming cave with several supporting wooden columbs. But making a mine may take a little while.

Time to Mine!
>(1/4)

---

With the slightly warming temperature out your scientists are able to make a quick trip to the Smelt with a wagon of mud vases. After a day or two the scientists return. A few hardened mud vases. The vases can even carry water! Weird?! Right!

>Upgraded Containment Done

---

With the cold all but gone the godgiven mission of your people must be fulfilled. You get a party of Shrooms together, a large pot full of the healthiest dirt and a wagon and head out into the forest to look for this tree of which your priest spoke. One... you recall from last spring! The tree you found the last generation resting under.

You spend days looking for the tree, looking endlessly day and night until you stumbel upon it.

A clearing in the jungle is home to the Tree of which the priest spoke. She neglected to mention one small problem though. The Ogre.

Around the Shroom tree are three giant Ogers eating the dead bodies of several creatures. Laughing as they grink the blood and chew the bones of a massive beast.

Each of the Ogres standing probably 9 Feet tall and twice as thick as any of your shrooms.

>>
Those Ogres don't look to kind. A strategic withdraw is the clear choice to make here. You value your men to highly to allow them to rush into combat like this without any backup. These ogres will be a massive battle. Why are they even here in the first place? Ogres don't live in jungles right? They live in forests where they can run and grab faster moving creatures.

You return to the village empty handed to gather more troops.

---

The mine is being widened and more support structures are being added like in the warming cave.

While digging your miners occasionally bring back the rocks they cleared away back to the village when they switch out shifts. Giving you a nice income of resources this turn.

>+20 Stone
>+10 Copper We are going to say that so long as the ore is mined in a location with a smelter or Kiln, the Ore is auto made into bars. To save time and have less things to keep track of.

You recall the scientist took several of your special glowflower pastes a while ago. Should probably check in and see how that's going.

You walk on over to his hut and knock on the door "Come... Come on it" You open the door and find scientist sitting in what seems to be a pretty comfortable leaf hammock. "Chief! What brings you here?" he says standing from the bed.

"Paste? How'd that turn out? The stuff made from the glowflowers, remember?"

""Ah, yes, yes, yes the paste. Truly interesting stuff you invented here chief. My research shows that it is useful as a hyper regenerative medication, look" Scientist takes off his leaf shirt and points to one of his shoulders. There is a clear line of change.

"What happened?" you ask

"Had to suffer for my work a little" He laughs. "Nobody volunteered so I had to take the thing off myself to test the effects."

"You cut your arm off?!"

"Source chief, anything in the pursuit of information. But what I learned is far more interesting." He pulls out a stone slab with some lines chiseled into it. "The left are the number of days it took to regrow an arm after an acid slug attack."

Basic counting is something your people have picked up on. There are tones of lines on the left side, more than you can count.

Scientist pulls out another slab "And this is arm growth with this medication."

Three lines. An entire arm will fully regrow in three days with this medication. "A useful resource indeed chief."

>Glowflower paste: Effects learned

---

This is the season of birth it would seem for your people. Last year you found several children under the tree guarded by the ogres, but that is not an option right now. A party with wagon and strong pots are loaded and sent into the jungle to look for the next generation.

I also just realized that without vocal chords our marching songs aren't heard by everyone else, all they see is a line of giant armed men marching in perfect sync in absolute quiet. Ah, sorry was taking it too far in my interpretation, that wouldn't be bad, so long as our spearmen held we should be safe, and it is a mission for the Godess
>>
I was thinking on bringing the slingers, hiding them to hide in the jungle and aim at the eyes of the ogres. After we blind them, we should let them have their panic attack and then attack them or just simply sneak under their noses and take the tree while they are blinded.

You stand afront near two dozen shroom warriors, ready and willing to give their all to reclaim the holy shroom tree from the Ogre menace. They raise their spears in holy fervor and march forward into the jungle.

Soon your men notice the terrain... You are close to your enemy. You give the order to prepare an ambush for the lumbering beasts. Your slingers climb the trees for a better vantage point. You receive a message from them.

"Chief, only two enemies sighted. What do?"

The third probably just left right? "Fire when ready"

Your men ready the slings as your spearmen stand at the treeline, hidden in plain sight. Then the battle begins!

Your slingers unleash a volley of stones instantly blinding one of the Ogres. It drops the leg of venison it had been eating and rushes the trees in a 'blind' rage Heh, get it? Blind.

As the first Ogre rushes your line your spearmen extend their spears forward into the charging beast. It runs into a wall of spears and falls dead. Landing atop one of your Skilled spearmen spearmen. Totally crushing him.

The first threat taken care of your slingers focus fire on the second Ogre who has grabbed a massive and swats away the rocks, leaving only half to actually make contact.

It charges your front line of spearmen taking minimal damage from its rough hide.

It takes a mighty swing at your line and tears off the Cap of the man beside you and throwing several of them to the ground. A small group of your men circle around and begin stabbing the creatures back. It doesn't like that. It grabs one of your shrooms with both hands and eats his head. The carnage is ended when a shroom scales the beasts back and stabs him through the head with a spear.

It falls to the ground with a thud.

Your terrified troops regain composure and take a moment to breathe. But the respite is cut short. "THE THIRD!" you hear before one of your men is launched over your head and shatters into pieces against a tree.

You turn around to see the third Ogre behind your line slamming a Spearmen into the ground over and over. But you have had enough loss today! You take the spear of a fallen shroom and rush the last Ogre.

A jump is all that's needed to put you at face level with it. It also gives you enough momentum to pierce the hide and impale the heart of the creature. He falls forward directly onto you! But the chief will not be done in that easily! Using all your might you lift the Ogre off of you and toss it to the side.

Your men quickly move the tree into the large pot in the wagon and return it to the village.
