/qst/ - Quests

In a time of global conflict, the elite international task force Overwatch was formed. Soldiers, scientists, adventurers, and oddities: together, they ended the Omnic Crisis and restored peace to a war-torn world. For a generation, the heroes of Overwatch protected the world, inspiring an era of exploration, innovation, and discovery.

After many years, Overwatch became troubled, and was finally disbanded by official U.N. order. Soon world conflict and terror rose again. Governments weakened by strife ceded power to mega-corporations. Militaries were replaced by private security forces. Some omnics returned to war with humanity; others remained peaceful, but faced fear and violence from humans affected by the war. The global crime syndicate Talon, in the absence of their perpetual rivals, rose to vast wealth and power, pushing entire nations into chaos.

You are a young man who's been many things: adventurer, treasure hunter, freedom fighter, and international criminal. But before all that, you dreamed of helping defend the world with Overwatch. When you encountered Tracer on that fateful night and agreed to help her rebuild, you didn't quite realize what you were getting yourself into. Joining as the first new recruit of the reborn team, you soon found yourself as unofficial leader in coalition with Athena, apparently the world's only benevolent Mind.

In the weeks since then, you, Tracer, and your new friends have travelled the globe, recruiting former agents and newcomers to the cause, and doing what you can to protect the citizens of Earth. Overwatch is doing what it can to ward off the forces of chaos, oppression, and war. But can one small group of vigilantes really protect everyone?

The world needs heroes. All you can do is try to be one of them.

In the late 21st century, western and central Africa underwent an economic rebirth. Avoiding much of the major devastation wrought by the Omnic Crisis, not only were their lands and cities mostly untouched, but its people and cultures didn't experience the same shock of a war against machines. The idea of continuing experiments into the Icarian pursuit of artificial intelligence was not considered abhorrent to them.

The rising African megacorps were quick to dismiss themselves from the international treaties banning research into artificial intelligence. Companies such as Zaki Heavy Industries quickly became infamous for their leveraging of applied AI technologies. Corp-built Omnics of all kinds, even combat units, proliferated throughout Africa. The efficient labor and organization lent a massive boost to the wealth of the once-poor continent, although international observers warned that their success came with incredible danger.

Now that a ghost-fragment of the malignant AI Anubis has hacked a military patrol of combat-grade Omnics and sent them rampaging through the streets of a major city to assault a Zaki H.I. research site, it seems there might have been a point to these warnings.

Of course, right now you're not in a position to be looking down on anyone for plunging headfirst into dangerous situations, are you?

The air fills with the deafening blur of gunfire noise, like the air itself is being ripped apart. Pressing your back against the pillar, you can feel it shudder under the impact of each high-caliber round fired from the shieldbearing combat mech's heavy machine gun. Not for the first time, you're grateful that corporations like Zaki don't skimp on construction material, and the pillar is made of high-grade plasteel which should keep you alive for, oh -- another five or ten seconds?

Winston is nearby, but he already got himself almost killed trying to come to your aid. Mercy is with him, so he'll be okay, but you can't expect any help from that direction in time to do anything about your current situation, which is looking increasingly dire.

You wince as your broken gauntlet leaks another electric discharge, causing the muscles in your left hand to twitch and spasm painfully. Using your electromagnetic shield to defend yourself against the machine-gun mech saved your life, at the cost of a functional shield and ultimate charge.

It hasn't helped that the security forces of the corporate research facility you're trying to defend have decided that you're part of the threat. It's true that they don't know about the Anubis corruption, so they have no idea what's going on here, but you'd think the heavy gunner mech trying to kill you would tip them off that you're on the same side, at least for now. Corporate security guards never were known for their sharp wit.

So. You're cut off from your allies and escape route. Pinned down in a crossfire. Your shield and Shadowshot are busted. You're fresh out of clever ideas. And you're about to die.

Maybe you've been in a worse situation before, but if so, you can't think of it right now.

What do you do?

This is no time to play hero. You're going to get the hell out of here before you lose any more than a functional gauntlet. Maybe you'll regroup with the others and finish the assault, or maybe you'll take the team and just get the hell out of here. Right now, the priority is not getting shot to pieces by this huge Omnic asshole.

Then you get an idea. What about Hanzo's crazy dragon laser beam thing? The Dragonstrike. It can go through walls, right?

First, though, you've got to get the hell away from this thing.

The next time the shield gunner (Phalanx? You think to yourself. Shieldbearer? Giant Gun Asshole?) pauses, its internal mechanisms reloading the machine gun, you make a break for it.

You dodge and weave, bullets cracking the floor at your feet. Your breath is knocked out of your lungs as you catch a pair of shot in the back, but your armor saves you on that one, the shoulder-piece cracking and falling to the ground behind you. Brigitte's going to complain about all these repairs, you think as you scramble behind cover. And you're going to need a new jacket.

You're shielded from both sides here, so you take a few moments to get some air in your lungs. "Athena," you manage to say, still catching your breath. "Can't you hack this guy or something?"

"I am trying, but the fragment's firewall is too strong," she says. "I will not breach it in time."

"Damn. All right. Hey, Hanzo," you call over the radio, having to shout to hear yourself as the machine gun fire resumes. "Are those big magic dragons of yours ready to go?"

"I am ready to unleash them," he confirms.

"When I give you the signal, aim it for -- uh --" Athena marks the coordinates on your HUD. "Sixteen meters north of my position. Athena, mark it for him, will you?"

"Acknowledged," Athena says in your ear. "Marking now."

"Understood,"says Hanzo. "On your command."

When the gunner begins its reloading sequence again, you call out, "All right, let's do this. Now!"

At first, nothing happens. You wonder if something might have blocked the communication, or attacked or distracted Hanzo. Then --

The Shimada Dragons burst through the wall, twin serpents of cracking blue energy, coiling around themselves in serpentine spirals. Their roars resound through the room, the calling of ancient gods of war. Aimed true, the dragons crash straight into the gunner robot. It raises its armored shield, but the energy passes around and through, wreaking havoc on vulnerable joints and circuitry.

The dragons move beyond the Omnic, still flying. Does anything stop them, you think? They're heading towards the security forces. The guards aren't sure what the hell this is, but they aren't stupid enough to stand in front of huge blue energy dragons coming their way. They split up and run to either side, out of its path, watching it pass with shocked stares.

The mech fizzes and sparks, lights flashing as it attempts to compensate for damaged systems. For a moment you think it's going to be okay, and this was for nothing. Are you serious? Then the ammunition in its machine gun arm explodes. The gun and loader malfunction, firing off rounds in random directions, the air fills with popping noises like the sound of firecrackers. A final explosion blasts the gun to smithereens, pieces flying in different directions. A length of the barrel embeds itself in a plasteel pillar near your head.

"Hell yeah!" you say, pumping your fist. "Nice work, Hanzo! I owe you a bottle of sake for that one!"

The combat mech is down, but not out. Its gun arm is a smoking ruin, but it's still standing, and that huge armored shield it has would still squash you like a bug. Of course, it wouldn't be fun without any risk, would it?

"I'm on my way, Seeker!" Tracer calls to you over the radio. "Just hang on!"

"Don't worry about me," you say, transforming your weapon. "I got this."

You take up a firing position behind a the corner of a battered loading machine and open fire. The mech raises its armored shield to defend itself, and your energy bolts are deflected harmlessly. You're not dealing any damage, but at least you're keeping it pinned down by forcing it to stay on the defensive.

For the second time tonight, you hear a bestial roar. An armored, furred shape hurtles out from the doorway your teammates retreated behind. Is that Winston? The gentle scientist is hardly recognizeable, glowing red and eyes crackling with overload energy from his Ultimate capacitor. He lands among the corporate security forces and starts laying into them with swinging fists, bellowing his challenge, a force of primal fury.

A fully-grown male gorilla can dismantle a Jeep with his fists. Winston told you he lost a little strength to the experiments that give him his intellect, but you wouldn't know it from watching him go to work. He rampages through the guards, sending them flying, smashing them into the air or against the walls. Some of them open fire with their energy blasters, but he doesn't slow down or hesitate, like he doesn't even feel it, just keeps attacking. Without special weapons, the guards are powerless to stop the onslaught.

Voomp! With a blue blur, Tracer blinks into existence at your side. "Cheers, luv! I'm here to rescue you!" She winks, then notices your broken equipment. "Ouch. Wish I'd gotten here a bit sooner. He gotcha good, huh?" She leans around you and cranes her neck to look at your back. "You're gonna need a new jacket. Can't see any blood. Doing all right, mate?"

Another electric current courses through your left forearm. "Been better," you admit through gritted teeth. "Be nice to get this busted thing off, but I can't get my hand out. Gotta deal with it for now."

Tracer pokes her head out, assess the situation quickly, then ducks back. "So we just gotta finish the job on that big feller, yeah?" She grins cheekily. "You thinking what I'm thinking?"

"You betcha," you say, readying your gun.

Tracer raises her pistols, grin widening in anticipation. "Ready when you are, mate."

"Then let's do it!" You jump up from a crouch, vault over the cover and charge, firing your gun. Tracer blinks diagonally across your path, distracting the shield Omnic, then a second time to get behind its shield. She unloads a burst from her pistols into its vulnerable side. It turns to face her, but its mechanisms have been damaged, and it can't move around with full efficiency. It lashes out, swinging the heavy armored shield through the air, using it as a melee weapon, but Tracer ducks and rolls under it. You take the opportunity to fire your own weapon, energy bolts shredding through the remnants of the mech's armor.

"Haha, this is easy!" Tracer says to you. "He's almost done for already! Shoulda left some more for me, Seeker!"

"Don't get overconfident," you warn her.

"Why worry, this big guy is too slow to even-- OOOF!!" A huge backward swing of the shield slams into her and sends her pinwheeling through the air. She crashes to the ground and rolls to a stop. "Uuugh ..."

V-vv-vvv-voomp! Tracer reappears where she was standing just before the shield hit her. She sighs. "Okay, I admit it, that one's on me. My bad." She puts on her attempt at a badass scowl, and you almost laugh. "Time to get serious."

A blue blur streaks up the robot's arm and up to the top. Tracer flops down on top of its head and crosses her legs. "Heya!" she calls down to the robot, waving at it. The shield arm comes up to try and swipe Tracer off, but before it can, she takes a pulse bomb out from her jacket and drops it down one of the holes the Dragonstrike made. "Bombs away!" Tracer says, giggles, then blinks off. The insides of the mech flash with a blue light before exploding. The shield mech finally collapses, its lights growing dim, the engine shutting down.

"Nothin' to it," she says, reappearing beside you, dusting her hands off.

"Nice work," you say. "You only almost died once."

Tracer groans. "I already said it was my bad, orright?"

You know, there's something disturbing about how nonplussed she is about getting injured like that because she can rewind. Like, she must have still felt the pain for a bit, whether it's gunshot, or knife wound or robot fist.
>>
>>1418657

"What should we do about Winston?" you ask. "He freaked out or something, went, um--" you were about to say "went ape" but thought better of it, "--went crazy on those guards, smashing them and jumping around and roaring."

"Oh, Winston went primal, huh? Guess these guys must've pissed him off." Tracer waves a hand dimissively. "Yeah, don't worry about that. It's actually his Ultimate, y'know. Something about connecting his Ult capacitor to adrenaline pumps and his suit's muscular-skeleto ... um ... something. Anyway, he's fine."

"You're sure?"

"Oh yeah. Seen this before. He just needs a minute to cool down, is all. And a new pair of glasses. See? Here he is now. Winston, buddy, how you feeling?"

Winston approaches you and Tracer, no longer glowing red or shooting lightning from his eyes. He takes out a new pair of glasses from a pocket in his chest armor somewhere, checks them for dirt, then puts them on. He clears his throat, embarassed. "Sorry about that. I, uh, lose control sometimes."

"You just took out, like, eight security guards by yourself," you say. "No problem here."

"Hell, I approve," says Tracer. "You deserve a chance to cut loose on the baddies sometimes."

The gorilla winces as he holds a hand to his shredded armor. "It's not so fun when the pain catches up to me afterwards."

Mercy emerges from the hallway she'd been taking cover in. "Don't worry, Winston," she says, training her healing beam on him. "I'm here for you. Are either of you two injured?"

"I took a few hits, but I'm still standing," you say. "Tracer here looks fine, even though she almost died. Again."

Mercy's smile is tranquil. "Business as usual then, Lena? What do you think Captain Amari would say if she were here right now?"

Tracer hangs her head. "I'm sorry already!"

The four of you look at the doors leading into the depths of the facility. Gunfire and shouts can be heard from within.

"It's only been a few weeks since the new Overwatch was just the four of us, huh?" says Tracer. "We've come a long way since then."

"We certainly have," says Mercy.

"It's been quite a ride," you admit. "And we're not done yet." You take a moment to think. "Okay, up ahead is probably the main research area. Whatever the Omnics came for, it must be there. Let's ..."

"Let's stay cautious," you say."Don't want to screw this up at the last minute. Wait until Mei and Hanzo get here, then we all go together."

"Are you sure?" says Tracer, hopping from one foot to the other, impatient. "What if it gives 'em time to set their defenses up?"

"It sounds like they already have quite enough on their hands," observes Mercy.

"It's better we wait until the whole team is here," Winston agrees.

The four of you wait in the shadows, trying to control your nerves. Gunfire echoes down the hallway, shouted orders and cries of pain from the Zaki Industries security forces, bursts of Omnic signal code. Winston drums his fingers on the ground. Tracer starts humming a little song until silenced by a frosty look from Mercy. You switch your weapon from sword to gun, and back to sword, and back again. You're sweating, partly from fear, partly because your suit's climate control is struggling to keep up with the hot African day.

Of course, when Mei arrives, you realize it could be worse. "S-so ... hot ..." she pants, unzipping her jacket. "Should have ... fabricated ... summer clothes ..."

Tracer pats her on the back. "Just keep it together, luv. I think we've almost saved the day here."

Being the only one on the team with proper experience in stealth, you take the lead. The other five follow at a reasonable distance, trying to stay both quiet and ready to spring into action.

Coming up to a wide doorway, you peek your head around the corner. At the sight of a second heavy gunner mech, you immediately recoil, before thinking it over, looking again, realizing it's already disabled. A smoking hole in its chest shows the Zaki guards must have brought out some kind of heavy energy weapon.

This room is a lockdown area, meant to secure sensitive research projects. Whatever the Omnics are here for, it's to do with one of Zaki HI's private projects. The few remaining security forces are hunkered down, firing their energy carbines at the last remnant of the Omnic assault force, combat frames doggedly assaulting their position.

"Hanzo," you say. "Can you put those ninja skills to use and have a look around? Those Anubis bots are here for something, and I want to know what."

"Understood," he says. After a moment without hearing anything else, you look back, but he's already gone. Damn ninjas.

"Everyone else, we're going to help those guards," you say, reading your gunblade. "On my signal -- now!"

Winston fires his jump jets and leaps into the room, his Tesla cannon arcing streams of electricity into the combat frames. Tracer blinks after him, dashing back and forth while firing her pistols. Mercy heals anyone who happens to take a hit, and you pick off the stragglers on the flanks with your energy pistol. Mei charges into the fray, spraying a stream of ice from her gun, screaming either as a battle cry or in terror -- did she have her eyes closed? Shit. Maybe she needs more training with Reinhardt.

Together, the five of you make short work of the last few combat frames.

The few remaining security forces gather, talking in hushed whispers to each other. The last remaining ranker raises his weapon. "H-halt! Y-you're intruding on Zaki Heavy Industries property and ... and ..."

"Ade, come on," one of the guards says quietly. "They just saved us, don't tell me you--"

Let's not antagonize skippy here while he's got energy weapons aimed at us with his coworkers nearby, and with us having someone scout for secrets too.

I don't want Hanzo coming back to us with a hole in our leg, and thinking "I wonder if joining these people was a mistake."

"I keep trying to say, we're the good guys," you tell the guards, exasperated. "We just want to stop the Omnic attack. That's all. Sorry we didn't let you get shot. I don't have a problem with you guys, you're just doing your jobs." That is, you sometimes feel sorry for them, when you aren't hating them for being pawns of the plutocracy. And they're still human beings, and they deserve Overwatch's protection from Anubis, like everyone else.

"Anyway, look. It doesn't have to go like this. In fact, we can help, if you've got injured. We have a medic with us. Now are you gonna do something stupid, or are you gonna let the nice lady patch you up?"

You see sweat appear on the officer's face. "Y-you don't understand," you hear him say quietly, barely above a whisper. "I-if they found out we surrendered, they'd ... I ... I can't ..."

"Rebooting security systems," Athena says. "You are off camera and mike for five minutes."

"We've disabled the security systems," you say. "You can tell them you fought and we disabled you."

"Khalifa isn't going to last much longer," one of the guards says urgently.

"And we wouldn't win anyway--"

"All right, all right!" shouts the officer, frustrated at his lack of power. He lowers his weapon. "Fine! You can come forward. WIth your medic."

Mercy begins treating the wounded guards, while Tracer and Winston guard her warily. The guards stay back from Winston. Way, way back. They aren't saying anything you can hear. But a useful trick for a thief is to recognize when someone's trying very hard not to look at something.

Athena says, "Seeker. Whatever the Omnics came here for must be important to Anubis. Zaki Heavy Industries is notorious for their experiments in combat AI." She highlights on your HUD one of the computer consoles in the center of the room. The same thing the guards aren't looking at. "This console is isolated from the network. Would you plug me in, please? I promise to use the appropriate protection."

>You're right, it's probably a big deal. I can do it when the guards aren't looking.
>I'm not sure, Athena. I don't trust whatever you find in these things.

have a firewall, or get fireballs. Though that joke works better for zenyatta.
>>
>>1418998

"Was that a sex joke, Athena?" you ask.

"I am pleased to report progress on my humor function," says Athena.

You can't help but laugh. Teaming with a Mind is something you never thought you'd do, but it's working out okay so far.

"Just make sure you use a firewall. All right, the guards aren't looking, and I don't want to keep a lady waiting," you say. It's a little tough getting the data cord out of your right sleeve with your left hand still barely useable, trapped in a broken gauntlet, but you manage. "Plugging you in. Gently, slowly, sensually ..." Right now you're glad you can choose to have your helmet mute your voice to the outside.

"My goodness, Seeker," she says as your cord slides into the port. "I think you are supposed to buy me dinner first. Oh. Now this is interesting."

"What is it?"

"It is indeed an experiment in combat intelligence." Athena flashes an overview of the system on your HUD.

"Tactical analysis function?" you say, trying to follow the rapid images and text displays. "Some kind of combat overseer AI?"

"It would appear so," says Athena.

"Troop deployments, combat maneuvers, anti-morale shock tactics ... holy shit. Imagine if the Anubis fragment got its hands on this?"

"Seeker?" You thoughts are interrupted when you hear Mercy saying your name, and realize she's been trying to talk to you for a few seconds now. "Are you well?"

"Sorry, Mercy," you say. "Just, uh, figuring out what's going on here. Are you finished?"

"Just about," she says. "They said that corporate reinforcements are on their way. Heavy hitters. We should get moving."

"Okay, you're right," you say, trying to keep your thoughts together. "Contact Hanzo and let him know, then get everybody moving."

Mercy nods. "I'm on it, Seeker."

You turn away, trying to figure out what to do about this tactical analysis function. In the wrong hands it could mean war. On the other hand, in the right hands ...

"Erase it," you say. "Completely."

"But I--"

"No way, Athena. It's too dangerous, even for you."

"... yes, Seeker. Erasing now." A few seconds later. "All right. It is done. The function no longer exists."

You turn back to the others. Mercy is fending off thank-yous from the formerly wounded guards, but otherwise, everyone's ready. "Let's go, team."

On the way back out, Hanzo rejoins the group and falls in alongside you. "Find anything?" you ask him.

He smiles and shows you a handful of credit chips. "Unlocked office."

"Nice," you say. "I'm sure we'll appreciate the money more than they will, anyway."

"Otherwise, the building is quiet," he says. "I believe we've defeated the last of them."

"Think you're right, mate," says Tracer. "Feels like we've wrapped things up. Maybe they'll throw us a party?"

Athena's voice comes back online, talking to the whole team this time. "Team, we are being hailed by a Helix Security enforcement team. They are incoming to our position, and are ordering us to stand down and await their arrival." She shows you their aircraft highlighted against a local map, then a closer view of your team relative to the Orca. "Local area scans clear for the Anubis fragment. I calculate you still have time to make it to the transport and evade them. If you hurry."

MEANWHILE, FROM THE BLIZZARDVERSE

Well, the Uprising event is wrapping up later today--got a lotta bits and pieces of stuff to go through lore-wise. Wedding photos from Widowmaker, a glimpse of Pharah's father, and matching cobalt blue uniforms that make the Overwatch strike team look like the Ugly Denim Squad (hope y'all got the skins you wanted!).

If Raven was a smart cookie, he might look into some of those Null Sector Omnic designs for some ideas on what to pit up against Seeker's crew.

WE NOW RETURN YOU TO THESE SHENANIGANS

"Let's talk to them," you suggest. "Maybe we can agree to work together."

The team looks at each other, then back to you. Mercy says, "Except that, er ... Overwatch operation is prohibited by the Petras act, and we've committed a crime? That we're all international fugitives for having done this, and the other missions so far?"

"They're gonna try to arrest us, Seeker," says Tracer. "They're not just gonna pat us on the back and thank us for doin' their jobs for them."

"I mean, look," you say, trying to explain yourself. "I just feel like we've got common ground. We're not actually criminals, right? We're trying to help people. Plus -- think about this. Maybe Fareeha is there. I mean Pharah. We can talk to her, get her to help us out, make her Helix bosses see reason. Maybe she'll even join us."

"Well ..." Mercy looks doubtful. "It's true that Fareeha works for Helix. But do you really think they'd let her get anywhere near us? They'd have to know she'd be in a position of divided loyalty."

"Yeah, but they didn't know we were coming when they sent the team, right?"

"I suppose ..." Mercy still isn't convinced.

"Okay, look," Tracer says, intervening. "I tell ya what. Me and Seeker will go talk to them. If anything goes wrong, we can get outta there. You four high-tail it back to the Orca and get ready to blast off. Athena can pilot it for you if you need to take off without us."

"But how will you get back to Gibraltar if that happens?" asks Winston.

"We'll think of something," she says. "Go on, off with ya."

The team starts to hurry off in the direction of the Aurora.

Tracer glances at you, then looks away. "They're risking a lot, you know. I can't imagine what'd happen to Winston if one of the corps got ahold of him."

>I get that. I just think we can work together with Helix.

Not necessarily those; the unique troops--the Slicers, the Eradicators, and those standard foottroops deserve some focus. The latter two are more interesting: both can be airdropped and deployed from compact designs, they're decently armed, and decently armored. Those AAA turrets, too--they essentially lashed on to the sides of buildings to set up and start firing. The Bastions are, indeed, a rehash--I think it's handwaved that they're essentially upgraded.

>>1419243
>>They aren't seeing the bigger picture.

>>
>>1419243

>You're right. I wasn't thinking.
>>
>>1419243

"You're right," you sigh. "I wasn't really thinking. I'm betting this all on a long shot that one person is there. Even if Pharah is there, could we even get her to choose us over Helix? I don't even know. I just--" want Fareeha back "--think our team needs all the help it can get. Anyway. Thanks for sticking by me."

Tracer gives you a playful punch on the shoulder. "You betcha."

"But if shit hits the fan," you warn her. "You get out of here. The last thing I want is for you to get hurt because of my dumb ideas."

"Got it," she says. "I'll ditch ya at the first opportunity."

"Well, I mean--" You see her wink at you. "Heh, right. Okay."

The two of you wait and watch the Helix dropship descend. The bay door opens. Helix troops emerge, well-armed and armored, taking up defensive positions in disciplined movements. At least six keep their rifles trained on you at all times.

Inside the shadows of the dropship, you see a distinctive armor begin to emerge. Your heart leaps for a moment, thinking you recognize Pharah's Raptora IV armor. Then you realize the silhouette is wrong. Too tall, too bulky in the shoulders. The armor-clad figure emerges from the darkness, the sunlight revealing his colors -- not the blue and gold you were hoping to see, but crimson highlighted with jet black, and a full-faced helmet.

"Lena Oxton and ... whoever you are," he says, a deep male voice emerging from the helmet's speaker. "You are under arrest by the authority of the international private peacekeeping contract, for violations of the Petras Act. Either place your weapons on the ground and surrender, or my men will kill you where you stand. Quite frankly," he adds, a note of disdain creeping into his voice. "I couldn't care less either way."

Tracer spins her pistols into position, showing the troops a cocky grin. "I'd like to see you try, mate."

"Hmm. Turns out I was hoping you'd say that." The red-armored man gestures to the shadows of the dropship. A pair of Helix troopers come forward, mounting some kind of heavy beam weapon on the shoulders of the front man.

"Think you can catch me, do ya?" Tracer taunts them.

"Tracer, we should probably--" you start to say--

The weapon charges up and fires a thin violet beam. Tracer blinks to the side, dodging it as you've seen her do a dozen times.

The beam follows her, zig-zagging through the air to her new location. It tags her in the side, just under the ribs. She staggers, somehow maintaining a grin. "Heh -- no problem, I'll just --" She disappears, and you hear the rewinding sound as she flickers back through the ether of time and reappears in front of you.

The wound is still there, emitting a scatter of violet energy particles.

Tracer falls to her knees. "Wha--?!" She stares desperately at the wound, touches it to make sure. It continues to bleed strange violet particles along with her own red blood. "I ... I can't ... why can't I ....?"

"Tachyon emission successful, sir," you hear the heavy weapons operator report.

"Excellent," says the red-armored man. "It's good that Vishkar came through on their promise."

"Oh god," you say. You grab Tracer in your arms and haul ass like you've never hauled before. Bullets whiz past you, slamming into parked cars. One tears into the remains of your jacket. Another pings off your helmet, sending a lance of pain through your skull, your HUD fizzling into static for a moment before reasserting itself.

"I can't rewind it ..." Tracer is still staring at the wound in bewilderment. She feels like she barely weighs anything in your arms. "I don't understand ..." She starts to cough up blood.

"It's going to be okay," you say, fighting panic. "I think we lost them. I'm going to get you out of here. Somehow. You're going to be fine." You try to contact the Orca. "Athena, come in!" The hiss of jamming fills the frequency. You start flipping through them. "Mercy, Winston, anyone! Son of a bitch!"

"Heh," says Tracer. "Y-you're kinda carrying me like a bride. D-does this mean you ... you wanna ..." She trails off, and you look down. She's passing out.

"No no no ... this isn't happening," you say to yourself, running through the streets. "We're not getting killed by Helix. We're going to get back to the Orca. Everything's going to be fine ..."

The sound of vertical takeoff engines fills the air. Slowing to a halt, alone with Tracer in the deserted ruins of the street, you see the Orca come into view, rise into the air, and start to fly away.

That's pretty fucking messed up, man. Why didn't you say it was a reroll? People were worried we'd get attacked and hacked over it, and almost unanimously could not see the value in it.
>>
>>1420355
We still would have had consequences for getting rid of it, deleting it was the right call.
>>
So if they have an Anti Time shit laser, that means they have to have tested it on something. Which means Vishkar has a way to recreate Tracer's condition.
>>
>>1419744
>That was Athena's version of Fate Points, a nice reward for a tough mission. Now it's erased. Overall this was not a great thread for you guys.

>>1420421

There's no point getting worked up on it now. More important question is how do we shake off the pursuit and get back home in one piece. I guess it could be binding time with Tracer - or with Pharah if we get caught, emphasis on "binding".

I'm also worried about how Athena will take our call on deciding what's too dangerous for her. But I guess it will just be one of things for Seeker to pore over when he returns back to the bar.
>>
>>1420463
Nah, it's more like our cybersecurity is pretty weak and that data could easily be stolen from us. All it takes is one bad base defense and Talon could also have it. Plus, I'd rather the data gone then have Anubis somehow stealing it from under our nose.
>>
>>1420463
I mean thinking about it, was kinda against what we usually do to cut Athena off without a chance to explain their side of things.

Also we seem to have lost the Helix squad for now. Our only option if no rescue squad is to quickly look for sympathizers.
>>
While the events of this thread have been less than stellar, I see it as opportunities for character development.

Seeker was overtaken by fear and urgency in one moment and optimism the next. He's human. It happens.

I simply hope this doesn't fuck us over too much in the long run. That would be frustrating game design, imo.
>>
>>1420541
I mean we went into this knowing the stakes. Tracer can't die here unless we just throw her in a garbage bin. Either we find sympathizers, a criminal connection, or worst case give in to Helix with our real identity and demand she get treated as a corp scion.
>>
>>1420541
Well, considering the nature of Sci-fi bullshit and the fact that Doctor who and Over-watch share a similar theme in certain areas, I think we will be fine. That is to say, we might be about to have a "everybody lives" day. Where although bad shit happens, it ends with no real damage done.

Also, we should probably see about contacting Vishkar's little autist for help in regards to that wound, assuming it doesn't heal...
>>
>>1420557
It likely just means she can't rewind it, but normal means should work.

This does open a can of worms meaning Vishkar has done testing with time related stuff so we need to wipe them out though.
>>
>>1420563
Don't need to wipe them out, just the scientists and data.

...actually, lets kidnap the scientists. We could use some more scientists.
>>
>>1420549
Personally I think if we can't get help from OverWatch sympathizers. We have to reveal our real identity as a corperate scion and get her help and be with her at least until some of the others are on their way. Then we might be shipped back to Lijiang to Mom and Dad. Though I hope we can leave something with Tracer that explains to our team mates at Overwatch who we are and what we did to get help. Though we might be able to reunite with the others since Lijiang tower is a map and they might have a mission there.
>>
You might find the program again someday on the black market. You'll just have to spend your hard-earned currency to buy it instead of me giving it to you for free.

I respect your decision to play it safe. Giving Athena powerful functions does come with its own set of risks and rewards. Good luck explaining to her your lack of trust, though.
>>
>>1420835
While Athena is nice we can't actually trust her. She's an AI.

I'm just trying to rustle jimmies.
I hope Tracer is okay.
>>
>>1420871
>He doesn't want the waifu to die
>He doesn't want Punished Seeker
>>
>>1420835
Athena is a good AI but we can't be certain that this won't change: after all she is hack able and corruptible.

Plus, it's easier to convince people to ignore the god-mind that doesn't have powerful command features than the ones that do.
>>
>>1420835
I mean nobody is allowed to use White Phosphorous, even Mr, Rogers.
>>
I don't understand why people chose to both delete the function and wait for the security squad to arrive. Seeker essentially pulled a complete 180, refusing to trust Athena when he normally is open with her and foolishly waiting for the Helix squad when he's normally cautious around the corporations.
>>
>>1421016
The delete thing was because we didn't want to use something with terror tactics, but it was OOC for Athena not get a chance to explain and I'm little salty about that.

The waiting was a hope that Pharah would be with them, a dumb one, but there was no way to predict they would have an Anti-Tracer weapon.
>>
>>1421024

I felt like I was pretty clear from the description of the tactical analysis function that Athena could use it herself to help analyze combat situations. Not sure what else she needed to explain to get that across.

>>1421016

I agree, but what are ya gonna do
>>
>>1421148
From the description of it, you made it sound like some sort of fucking horrifyingly efficient tactician.

You make it sound as if it would be far better than what a human would be able to do, based off the fact that it is actually an improvement for Athena, who is able to analyse literally every tactical document on warfare she is given and perform simulations on the fly.
>>
>>1421160

I wouldn't say horrifying, just moderately frightening. Computers can beat us at chess, but real life tactics are a little messier.

It is supposed to feel like playing with fire. You would've handed a powerful command tool to an AI whose benevolence you have only its word for. Of course, you'd already be pretty screwed if Athena betrayed you.
>>
>>1421178
I am well aware of the power of computers for combat and trust me, it is truly nightmarish.

However I would point out that if Athena wanted to take over, her force would be omnics. That means she would automatically have their understanding of the situation in the field, which is almost certainly better than a human's ability to relay information up the chain of command.

Thus, if she can analyse the situation's data better, giving her better ability to make use of it is terrifying to me.

It's not a question of her benevolence, rather it is a question of if we are a tool for her to control over-watch. Which I do feel, at least partly, we are for her. As it stands, if we were betrayed by her, at most she would have control over our base's defences, our income sources and a few other such things like what she can hack with her current abilities.
>>

Especially considering that a treasure box with a bow on it might be a bait and a trap just as well.

>Good luck explaining to her your lack of trust, though.

Challenge accepted.

"Athena, it's not that I don't trust you as-is. I do. But exposing yourself up to that kind of modification is a significant risk. And if anything were to happen...I don't think Overwatch could actually survive without you yet. We, I, still rely on you too much to afford to gamble on your sanity like that. I just didn't think it would be worth what you'd get in exchange.
And, to be clear, it's not like I won't ever want to provide you with upgrades in the future. Even that specific one. Just...not yet. Not when you're all that's separating us from being so vulnerable."

>1421355
Raven, portions of your playerbase are upset not because they were denied a reward, but because they feel you were inconsistent in how you handled it. In the past, we did a thing, and then had an option to take a risk, and if we pulled it out in the end we were rewarded.
This time however, we took a risk, paid for it, and then (apparently) just got more risk. And when we turned it down, people probably thought "Oh well then since we chose not to get this, we must be getting Pharah as the reward instead." Only to not only be denied Pharah, but to have Tracer seriously injured with no clear path to safety. That makes for good dramatic writing, especially with the cliffhanger, however when taken together with the risk/reward system you've implemented it just appears to be shit piled upon yet more shit.

I hope you can see why that might be just a tad upsetting to people trying to play this as a game, rather than just enjoying it as a story.
>>
>>1421589

I can understand that. A quest is in a weird grey space between a game and a story, so it's tough to keep both aspects balanced.

The way I see it, I gave you a mission reward. In fact I had Athena spell out for you that the room contained your mission reward, even after you ignored the guards talking about the valuable "project".

The fact that the reward came with a potential long-term risk, and that you had to balance your trust in Athena and desire for power with your fear of potential consequences, was part of what made it interesting to me. Anons chose to beware the risk over exploiting the reward, which is fine. It may even turn out that they were right to do so.

I could've certainly just handed you a shiny new toy and then evacuated you without asking for votes. But where's the fun in that? Instead I gave you enough rope to hang yourselves. I didn't actually expect you to use it, desu, but them's the breaks. Not every option I present you will be a good one, and not every reward will be outlined in gold light with a big arrow pointing at it.

In general I'm here to create an interesting story, not screw you guys over. This isn't about winning or losing, and we're not competing, we're working together.
>>
>>1421619
I'll be honest. It didn't sound like a reward: it reminded me more so of playing Genie's universe and doing...anything, great benefits but at the same time huge risks.

Also, you could have stated something like "+1 fate point" or warned us what it was. Rather than just saying "Hey this is a upgrade to that AI that is kinda using you like a puppet and makes it effective at commanding troops."
>>
>>1421619
That wasn't how it was spelled out though. You made it sound like Skynet meets Creed without any indications it was a reroll. It wasn't made to be a trust Athena choice, it was made to be a weigh this against the possibility of it getting out, but apparently it is already out there. It isn't, with something similar being available on the black market for cash, this genuinely was just shitting on a gift. Even if Talon could steal it from us, something similar enough is already or soon to be available. That was not made clear.

That you didn't give Athena time to talk and made it a binary choice was just the cherry on top of this shit sundae that anons walked us into.

This is one of those times that you did screw us over, intentionally or not. I'm not mad about the follow up, anons being stupid deserved that, but how the reward was handled was a terrible choice.
>>
>>1421677
I think saying he screwed us over isn't a fair way to categorize it. Was it poorly handled/ communicated in an unclear way? Seems like it; but I think saying he screwed us over is a big overreaction. There's nothing to do about it now, we just hope that qm takes our feedback and incorporates it into his writing in the future.
I for one am grateful for such a well written quest so far, in fact.
>>
Well, I'm not mad at YOU for anons making bad decisions. Still salty about it and have no idea why anons thought it would go any differently than it did. Tracer practically spelled it out for us.

I do wish there would have been an option to back out after she said it though. If only so I could be more mad that anons did this to themselves.
>>
I specifically didn't spell out the mechanics of the reward because I wanted you to make the decision from a narrative standpoint, not from what option gave you the most mechanical benefit. This isn't an RPG where every reward is listed in your quest log, and plot-critical NPCs are unkillable and have their names highlighted. You're going to have to make some decisions without fully understanding the consequences.

>>1421684

First you're mad that it'll get on to the black market someday and you'll have a second chance. Then you're mad that you didn't get to talk to Athena and get a second chance. Do you want a second chance or not?

>>1421682

Thanks for the compliment, I'm starting to get my almonds activated here. I think instead of updating tonight I'm going to have to give anons a chance to catch their fucking breath.
>>
>>1421699
That's probably for the best. There's no such thing as a perfect campaign, and we want you as qm to enjoy running, so I'd rather wait for updates and have you writing well then force something out will under duress.
If it means anything, I doubt anons would be so salty if they weren't so invested in the quest.
>>
>>1421699
>I specifically didn't spell out the mechanics of the reward because I wanted you to make the decision from a narrative standpoint, not from what option gave you the most mechanical benefit.

Except that is bullshit, as if we were players looking purely for mechanical benefits, we wouldn't do waifu wars or give a singular fuck about characters beyond their potential in combat. Trust your players for god sake, or why should we trust you?

I would look through the archive for examples of you giving us this sort of information but I am tired as shit and even lazier.

>First you're mad that it'll get on to the black market someday and you'll have a second chance. Then you're mad that you didn't get to talk to Athena and get a second chance. Do you want a second chance or not?

He is mad you made it sound like a 1-of-a-kind upgrade to her abilities, then reveal it is just a re-roll. Not that it is even something we can only get by luck but a thing we can just buy and offers little benefit.

He is mad we didn't get a second chance to talk to Athena because he (probably) thinks she could have convinced us to not stop her taking it.

>I think instead of updating tonight I'm going to have to give anons a chance to catch their fucking breath.

Like hell you are, I want to at the very least continue arguing this point. Also, I kinda want to see if Tracer survives.

>>1421718
I am angry but I have shit I can do besides this. So if he needs a breather, he may take one and return in good time.
>>
>>1421699
Okay, first, you are the one who said it was meant to be a "reward" for the mission. If this choice had weight, denying that reward wouldn't have been a problem. It would have been our choice. However, the choice is undermined to the point it is simply a trap. By having it be on the black market so much of the good that could have came of this is gone. Getting rid of it doesn't matter, it genuinely had no effect outside of being a dick to Athena. We deleted/stole the data so those consequences (corp anger/retaliation) will happen regardless. There's a similar thing appearing on the black market so we didn't actually prevent it from spreading. If Athena decides to go rogue, she'll still have it. If Talon or the corps decide they want it, the options still there.

Yeah, I think you should have clarified what it was rather than suddenly deciding to go full narrative and not trusting us to look outside of mechanical benefits, but that is only one contributing factor to what makes this choice fall flat. You framed the choice incorrectly by making it sound unique. Like a one of a kind prototype upgrade. Then took away the few positive outcomes that could have came from this, by having it spread anyways, leaving us with all the negatives.

What could have been a satisfying narrative choice carrying weight became a trap option to discard the reward and foster animosity. Which is upsetting because you genuinely don't seem to get how that fucked us over.

Where did I say I was mad that talking to Athena didn't give us a second chance? I'm mad because there was no dialogue between the two. He says to make it happen and doesn't hear her out. I don't want a second chance. A second chance undermines what you wanted the choice to be, by making the only real effect of this being that we don't trust Athena.
>>
>>1421805
To me at least it's not being a dick to Athena it's more a precausion because the data could still be as easily stolen from us. New OW is still at it's infancy and there's so many things that could go wrong. I trust Athena but I don't trust that we could keep it 100% safe. Plus if Anubis could figure out where the data is it's not a stretch to think that he'll also be able to find it in Gibraltar and I don't want to deal with two factions trying to attack our base
>>
>>1421765

>Like hell you are

Did you seriously just say that to a QM? You're free to go fuck yourself, anon.

Nah. I have to study for exams. So I'll just keep a wee mental footnote about this. Like the fact that I need to get round to organising my bookshelves or my downloads. Then when it becomes relevant again, I'll pickup right where I left off.

Anyhow he hasn't done something worth any considerable amount of my attention-intensive anger, seeing as I have other things to do and more pressing matters to give a damn about.

So you know, I'll deal with this when it comes up again but until then, there's a pin in it.

I just decided to drop by and say I forgive you Raven. But I want some smut from this. And I want it to be good finger-licking material.
>>
>>1422014

There's a bit of a row because of perceived notions of hamfisted decision making and poorly understood gaming mechanics. So Raven is taking a bit of a holiday--tensions are high and a cool-off is needed before the next thread otherwise it's gonna be a shitmess. That's the long and short of it, anyway.

Honestly, I see Raven's argument--he didn't want it to be purely based on cheese and wanted something that would more fit in with storytelling rather than mechanics. To be honest, though, it's difficult to make a choice both narratively and mechanically relevant without being hamfisted on either end of the spectrum or being perceived as railroading toward some end.

Raven, whatever you do, dude, this isn't a bad experience--just QM growing pains. I mean do you relaly think there'd be this much of a shitmess if the playerbase didn't love the game, the characters, the world this quest is based around? We all, at the end of the day, want a fair shake and see the good guys get out of another bad mess and fight the clankers another day. And to see that done well with an IP as popular as this one is right now is difficult. We wanna see this quest succeed but we also don't want you to fuck up. So go have a holiday or consult the Cabal or whatever--we just want a good end and maybe end up with a waifu of our choosing.
>>
>>1421909
Honestly, that anon, and the others butthurt over this just need to desalinate.

Personally, I'm of the opinion that this situation is the fault of the anons who voted to make the poor choices. They made their decision and it won out, so now we all have to deal with the consequences. That's just how Quests work and there's no point in people losing their shit over it.
>>
"try to make the QM hate you quest 17"

Personally I blame the fact that this quest is now on the TVTropes--since we're expanded to a larger audience we're too over and the newfags haven't built up the thick skin some of us older anons who quested on the /tg/ developed.

A growing experience for us all!

Honestly, as upset as I am for how the reward was worded, I'm even madder that people stayed around for Helix. That was the dumbest thing we've done so far, she wouldn't just let us go in front of everyone even if she was there so I don't know what people were thinking.

I see merit in debating with a QM, but outright telling him "no you don't get to rest stay here and listen to my points on why you're wrong" is pushing it. Unless this one of those weird anti-quest agendas come back to life

Also another thing to all the late comers, did you see an option to walk away once the squad went to the Orca or are you only here for the salt?

Also please share how you knew about Helix having a gun that causes wounds that can't be rewound made by Vishkar.
>>
>>1422913
>did you see an option to walk away once the squad went to the Orca
well we had very obvious opportunity to leave together with the orca. We decided to stick around and talk instead.

An understandable, emotional choice, on part of Anons as well as from storytelling perspective on part of Seeker.

>Also please share how you knew about Helix having a gun that causes wounds that can't be rewound made by Vishkar.
We did not. Although after our previous run ins with corps I'm not really upset to see that they're developing countermeasures against us. I do worry though that this will cripple Tracer severely in our future corp-related missions, and is a warning that we should anticipate more such foils in the future.
>>
>>1422892
Again, as I explained in this post (>>1421920) regarding my comment in that post (>>1421805), it was in reference to him thinking we would simply calm down if he left us in silence. I don't give a singular fuck if he wants to take a break, as I needed one at that point as well, seeing as it was 3 AM.

>>1422848
>>1422913
I have no problem with the Helix encounter, to be frank it was dumb as shit to stay around and meet them.
>>
>>1422953
>>1422930
I mean after the squad left, we had no option to back out. It was just Tracer and us and we couldn't leave from the options we had.
>>
>>1422957
Did we not? Shit that is kinda bad but still, we had been given a decision to leave once so I guess it wasn't too bad.
>>
>>1422957
So? That's your own dumb fault for voting without thinking.

You know that the corps wouldn't want her anywhere near nu-Overwatch, and you know putting her on the spot wouldn't have helped. What you didn't think to consider was how much it could blow up in your faces and you seemingly discarded all previous interactions with the corps, thinking Helix security was some kind of hero squad that we could talk over to our side. It was foolish on every level.

That part, and the consequences, I think were handled well.
>>
>>1422957
You mean in >>1419243 yes? I see your point, although I think if we did get cold feet at that moment and said "fuck it let's just leave" as a write-in, OP would've respected that.
In any event, it was right after we decided to gamble that the corp will be pliable to our charm.
>>
>>1423060
>thinking we could talk them to our side
Nigger who thought that?
>>
I think it's time we had a talk with Vishkar. Think Junkrat and Roadhog work on commission?
>>
>>1424109

Probably, but I doubt we have the funds to try courting them. They'll have to remain free agents just awhile longer unless they decide to "go legit" again.

In the meantime, we should look into who is, well, recruitable.

Our primary concern should be getting a couple more Tanks and Support characters. D.Va and Zarya would do well with the way our team is built up currently; as for Tanks, we could do well with finally calling in Lucio or tracking down Ana.

On the Offense side of things it'd be nice to get 76, provided we can find him. Sombra would be a powerful asset, too--again, provided we can find her.
>>
>>1424190
>Zarya and D.Va

>76
End game, he isn't coming back until he is sure OW is alive

>Sombra
fuck that noise, we can't trust her.
>>
>>1424194
Hell if we had stuck around in Darado we might have worked with her.
>>
>>1424200
We probably heard of her, but Sombra is as big a no as Reaper. She CAN NOT be trusted. Say what people will about the Junkers being mass murderers, but they will blow up your face. Sombra may just hack into everything at base and keep it under wraps until she has all the info.
>>
Fuck, I'm getting flashbacks of Cosgrove's Parker Quest from all this madness.
>>
>>1424205
OW Quest 7 (the one where Seeker gave Reaper an asskicking) outright states that we've had run-ins with Sombra, but we haven't gotten any specifics about said run-ins.
>>
>>1424455
We don't know if Hackercat is Sombra tho.
>>
>>1424687
We don't, and that wasn't what I meant. At the start of thread 7 Winston shows us Sombra's skull symbol/calling card/whatever-you-want-to-call-it, which prompted Seeker to say;
>"Oh. Yeah, I've had run-ins with her before. We better assume the cameras are toast for now. Anything else?"

And after we repelled the Talon attack, Seeker said this to Winston;
>"I know the hacker who was behind this. She's good. Real good."
>>
I don't want that info popping up on the black market because it means that choosing to delete it here meant nothing overall.

If we deleted it, it better be fucking gone forever.
>>
>>1424886
I agree.

I'd also like it very much if Tracer didn't die.

But that second one is totally on the Anons.
>>
>>1424889

We would to throw her in a dumpster for that to happen.
>>
>>1424892
I mean she's got a critical injury and
>"No no no ... this isn't happening," you say to yourself, running through the streets.

>You see the Orca come into view, rise into the air, and start to fly away.

>alone with Tracer in the deserted ruins of the street
>Start to fly away.
>>
>>1424895
Yes, but there is a wide variety of ways to get her wound taken care of. Not much point discussing it now though, we should wait and see what options are actually present when the time comes.
>>
>>1424889
As Tachyons are particles that travel backwards in time and Tracer is chronally displaced, I have a few guesses on fixing this.

First Option: wait it out. The Tachyons will have to continue traveling eventually. In which case, Seeker has to scrounge up some medical supplies and replace the blood Tracer lost. Hopefully, she's AB+ or Seeker is O-.

Second Option: hard reset. Seeker might be able to tamper with Tracer's harness and use it to purge the Tachyons from her body directly. However, while Seeker is a skilled Technician, he's a mediocre at best chronal scientist. If he can get a commlink with Winston, maybe he can get a walkthrough. Still going to need to stabilize Tracer.

Third Option: contacts. Seeker might have criminal contacts who can help him in the interim. I imagine this will be costly though.

Fourth Option: Call home. The Last resort. If Seeker gets desperate enough, maybe he can call his mom for help. This is obviously a really bad choice.
>>
>>1424919
One problem with the second option is I think our comms were fucked by the helmet getting shot. Our best bet right now is to find a way to stabilize Tracer and try to fix it.
>>
>>1424936
I'm pretty sure he can repair that, given enough time.

Stabilizing Tracer is almost certainly our first priority. We should be able to steal a car, put her in the back and grab some medical supplies from a nearby store. We'll almost certainly need to drop our mask, jacket, and armor and switch to something less conspicuous. Lots of stores sell linen which can be cut into strips for bandages and we can make temporary saline solution with water and salt to keep Tracer topped off.

Keeping her alive while running from Helix is going to be tough.
>>
>>1424962
I think a big issue to consider is we are in the middle of a warzone basically. There is bound to be some looting going on and we don't want to get wrapped up that on a timer.
>>
>>1424978
I can't remember if the attacks were that widespread. Once we get out, we should be fine. Steal a van maybe.
>>
>>1424962
Don't we have a healing thingy in one of our pieces of gear? Could we maybe do some jury rigging to get that working?
>>
>>1424998
We do. We'll probably need to cannibalize parts of our other gear too. However, battlefield healing is explicitly noted to be a stopgap. We'll probably need to patch her up manually.

Who's ready to strip Tracer?
>>
>>1425014
>taking off the harness
I don't want time ghost waifu

>>1424998
I feel like we need more delicate equipment to use it without ruining the thing, maybe a good alternative to going Corp. Remember, these things take like an hour to hook up to weapons at base with Winston.
>>
Just don't leave her behind, or alone for too long.

Talon might get a hold of her.
>>
>>1425020
I believe Tracer is fine so long as she's within a certain distance of her harness.
>>
So, basic plan:

1. Acquire Transportation, preferably a van.

2. Stabilize Tracer as much as we can. Possibly give her our healing thing.

3. Acquire Medical Supplies or equivalent

4. Treat Tracer further. Possible blood transfusion or equivalent my be necessary.

5. Reestablish communications with Athena and HQ.

6. Figure out how to remove the Tachyon effect, if possible.

7. Weepily apologize to Tracer for being an idiot when she regains consciousness.

8. Awkwardly return the kiss she gives to shut us up.

9. Postpone further activities until we return to the Watchpoint.

10. Acquire means of transportation to Gibraltar.

Somehow have to accomplish all this while hiding from Helix, Anubis, the Authorities and Talon.

>>
>>1425149
nah, This is worse. We deleted something we should't have. Which we need to explain to our AI we don't trust her enough with something that'd help us greatly. We currently have a dying Tracer or one who is gonna be lost to the time stream again and we stayed around for a possible Ex to show up.
>>
>>1425156
First point isn't exactly right and we couldn't have known, second point we had 0 way of knowing and she isn't gonna be lost to the time stream because of 1 bad toll, third point was our only fault.

I still say we should have gotten an option to back off when the whole team left, but no point crying over split milk.
>>
>>1425156
I'd say this one is worse, because it's another fuck up on top of the last one.

We're proving to be unfit for command. If Tracer dies man... I don't know. I'm not sure we could stick around with that over our head.
>>
>>1425163
I keep telling you anon, Tracer won't die from just a single bad roll and decision. We need to fuck up badly at least one more time.

We could have known, We could have copied it onto a flash drive or something else to isolate it and delete it if it had virus or some other BS.

You're right we had no way of knowing that somebody might develop a weapon to effect things but we should've been prepared for it and not let people think with there dicks or at the very least ordered her to leave with the rest.

I suppose you're right on about the data. I still don't feel like it was handled way from either QM or us, but all we can do now is find ways to improve communication and make sure we express our beliefs so the QM can tell us if they match up.

Hopefully after this mission someone else will be willing to step up to the co-commander seat, either Athena or someone else.

>>1425173
The only thing to fear is fear itself. Just think of it like this, Tracer WILL NOT die. The question is to what lengths will we have to go to make that happen?
>>
>>1425183
thats the thing though, Why would Athena step up if we just proved we don't trust her handling important and sensitive combat data or programs. Maybe Mecree but I doubt he would.
>>
A couple days ago I commented and stated that I think these developments will turn out alright in the end and can serve as character development material.

Since I posted my original comment Anons have mentally backed themselves into a corner of "some voters who aren't me voted badly and really fucked things up and we won't live it down anytime soon."

Personally, I think we should embrace this challenge to our leadership and take the opportunity to explain ourselves. The decision to delete the Skynet software, in particular, is easy to defend imho. We are a fledgling group that has already suffered an attack by an elite hacker. We face cyber-based threats all the time. Why would we bring a very sensitive and dangerous piece of software into our base when it could easily fall into enemy hands? Why would we be willing to risk our team and our organization to this software which could mess with Athena? It was a battlefield decision made on the spot and we played it safe. I feel good about that decision.

The decision to meet with Helix? We had no idea they would have an anti-time gun (which I feel is kinda bullshit but whatever, it's not the point) and we had intentions to discuss Anubis with whoever showed up. Telling Helix about Anubis is a good and noble goal, and Seeker was too cocky. It happens. As I said before, Seeker was playing things optimistic here. He wanted to see Pharah a little bit, too, but the team doesn't necessarily need to know that. Maybe Seeker won't even admit that to himself.

Everyone needs to chill out. Pretty sure half of the quest so far has been recruiting the team before they get themselves killed. Seeker's allowed to do it, too.

Tracer was the idiot that played around instead of just running away, but semantics.
>>
Here's my last update for the thread:

Lost and abandoned in a foreign city, carrying a wounded comrade and hunted by ruthless mercenaries, you faced a difficult choice. Your best chance of saving Tracer's life would be to surrender to Helix and have them treat her. However, you don't know what might happen to you in captivity. Tracer might be locked away as an experimental test subject -- and as for you, maybe you'd get away with revealing your real identity, and demanding to see your mother. Or maybe not.

In the end, you decided to ...

>Surrender to Helix, along with Tracer. It was the only way to be sure she got the proper medical attention.
>Draw Helix away on your own, after leaving Tracer in hiding. It was the only way to get Helix off her trail.
>Stayed in hiding, searching for a civilian doctor who could help.
>Stayed in hiding, searching for a way to contact Athena or the Orca.

None of these are "bad ends". They just lead to different story paths.

To anons who are fretting: in order to kill a waifu or ruin your relationship with Athena, you're going to have to try harder than that. I have your best interests at heart, I want you to have a good ending with a waifu too. We're working together on this.

I've enjoyed everything King, Just wish I had actually been here for it and not at the end. Thanks for running.

Leaving Tracer probably won't work. They probably have some way of tracking exotic particles like Tachyons.

I like both and dislike the others. If there is a tie between these two then take the top one.

I mean, the real question is, when are we going to become Zarya's little spoon?

When do you become a proper Russian nationalists and help her fight back against the horde of invaders anon?

We used to be a mater thief. We must have some contacts in the underground.

Man, I wish you had the balls to kill her off right now. Teach everyone to stop fucking around and actually be a good leader instead of a successful fuckup

Not edgy, it actually makes sense, that choice was stupid as fuck. "Let's shake hands with the guys who want us dead on the offchance there's a waifu in it". What next, let's meet and greet Talon on the offchance widowmaker will give the sucky?
>>
>>1426611
No, its pretty fucking edgy to want a character killed after 1 choice and bad dice roll. But I mean it isn't like that guy shows up for this quest normally.
>>
>>1426654
It's not edgy wanting a really dumb choice to have negative consequences bub.

First things first. Hopefully there are medics around who take patient confidentiality seriously. Hell the team possibly saved life of one moments ago.
>>
>>1425590
Before thinking that, you have to old-yeller Bastion in the yard.
>>
I really want Seeker to come out of this Experience needing cybernetics.
>>
>>1427351
It could happen sooner or later, depending on we roll the dice. Hopefully later, the situation is already dire enough without us getting badly wounded.
>>
>>1427351
I don't think that will happen until we go into the negative HP.
>>
Any idea when this will run again?
>>
>>1435618
Dunno all we can do is wait.
>>
Would it be a good idea if we had a rival whose neither an enemy nor an ally, unlike pretty much everyone else in the story
>>
>>1439516
Kinda like Sombra?

She's kinda like that.

Also, as a future plan, we might be able to recruit Symmetra if we can convince her that Vishkar is doing more harm than good. Having someone of her caliber running defense on the Watchpoint would be a godsend, seeing as she was able to kick the entire team's ass on her own when she had the home field advantage.
>>
I guess, I was thinking more along the lines of an antagonist sort of character who isn't evil or good, who'll sometimes help us or go against us when it suits them, so I guess Sombera but from what I can remember reading she's more of an enemy.

I would love to see a rival somewhere in the quest, because not everyone is going to be sitting on the sideline, is an ally, or an enemy.

So far here are the relashionships i can remember.

Ally
Tracer
Winston
Mercy
Genji
Hanzo
McCree
Mei
Torb
Brigette? (most likely spelled that wrong but whatevet you know who I'm talking about)
Bastion
lucio
Reinhardt

Rival
Semmetra? (Maybe, a big maybe)

Enemy
Reeper
Widow (for as long as she is being controlled by Talon)
Sombera? (Maybe, we haven't seen enough of her to gauge where she stands)
Junkrat
Roadhog

Unknown
Orisa
Zarya
D.Va
Zenny
Ana

Neutral
Jack / Soldier 76 (he neither helping nor going against us)
Phara (Old GF, time will tell wether she helps, goes against, or does nothing to us)

In other words no confirmed rivals, some one who active pushes the MC along that is not an enemy or ally.
>>
>>1440909
If we have a rival, it's gotta be someone with contrasting taste in music, kinda bumbling around but still real likable and not with pity, and someone who won't pursue our girls.

I vote he/she/it pursues D.Va as a romantic interest, because we have secured the current girls, I believe.
>>
Maybe...

Here how I imagined the rival, a well experienced merc, professional when needed but is laid back most of the time, has no problem being a troll / complete jerk at times, loves causing chaos on a small scale, helps you from time to time when you really need it, has a ton of bad puns, a skele-ton, has a slightly cynical sarcastic sense of humor, in other words Cayde-6 from Destiny. Just look up the Destiny 2 trailer and listen to the Exo Hunter, the talking robot in the hood, his "oh okay, well then... THERE WILL BE TONS OF LOOT!" Line fit what I imagine for the rival so well

And his Moto "You will be efficient, you will be polite, you will have a plan to kill everyone you meet"

Then again that's just one idea
>>
>>1441719
>kinda bumbling around but still real likable and not with pity

That's Seeker.

>>1444266
Make him a professional suave guy instead. More Spy than Sniper.
>>
Yes this ^
>>
>>1444602
>That's Seeker
Have you not seen our dance moves? We clearly don't bumble around
>>
When's Raven coming back? I read through the archives and I'm super excited to participate
>>
But we, seeker are clearly not as skilled as others, now don't get me wrong, he has talent and good instincts, but he can be reckless at times and makes some pretty dumb choices now and then.

The rival the other hand should be a contrast to Seeker, maybe is personality is a mix between the proffesional and intelligent Spy from TF2 and the sarcastic and cunning Cayde-6 from Destiny.

But the rival should have some aspects that he / she shares with Seeker, like maybe they both hate big corporations, but the rival will take a job from one of them if he / she needs to.

By the way how many people want a rival, and if we what should their personality and backstory be like?

Personally I would like to see a mix of Spy from TF2, Adam Jensen from Dues E, and Cayde-6 from destiny
>>
Sorry, Adam Jensen from Deus Ex, my phone is making it hard for me to type right now, and possibly might explode.
>>
>>1445025

Raven's already back, he's just got other quests to run.

Also, christ, you're putting way too much time and effort into thinking about this rival.

Hello anons. I'm still alive. I started a new quest, which you can find the first two threads of here if you'd like to check it out:
http://suptg.thisisnotatrueending.com/qstarchive.html?tags=Nightmare%20Planet

Regarding a "rival" character, I already have some ideas on that front, which I think you'll enjoy them as they're developed although there's always room for more Nathan Fillion, so who knows

Because I'm pretty busy in the Thursday-Saturday block, the next Overwatch Quest won't be until Sunday at the earliest, so I'll see you then. Thanks for playing.
