You are the former United States Navy warship USS HOEL, now returned as a shipgirl and ready to kick Abyssal ass!

Currently, you were sitting in the back of an Osprey heading for your insertion point near Russian waters to search for Woel and the Russian shipgirls. Currently with you were Johnston, Heerman, Haida, and San Diego. A small but reliable team of shipgirls. Meanwhile, Enterprise, Saratoga, Iowa, Portland, Indianapolis, San Fran, Daly, Wren, and Luce were all waiting in the wings as backup in case you needed it.

You hoped you wouldn't.

"Heh, never figured you'd be the last one to show up, Hoel. You nearly missed the plane!" Johnston chuckled.

"Yeah, that's usually her job." Heerman rolls her eyes as she nudges Johnston with her elbow.

"Why were you so late?" Haida asks curiously as she does a final equipment check.

Er, well, you hadn't actually told them anything. You had already told Portland and Anna to keep the whole "matter" quiet, though you were pretty sure that Portland would leak out the details anyways through her damn side business of hers...

"I-I was just tied up with something. That's all." You try to look as casual as possible as you shrug off the question. "Besides, I'm here right now, aren't I?"

"I suppose." Haida nods. "Are you sure that these Russians aren't going to shoot at us?"

"Well, Woel says they're all pretty cool, so as long as we let them know who we are, we should be fine." You try to assure her.

"All right." Haida nods. "I sort of wish Blys was here to watch out backs, though considering the circumstances, maybe she wouldn't be the best shipgirl to bring on this mission..."

"Oh, because she's Polish, right?" Johnston chimes.

"You didn't have to point it out so bluntly." Heerman sighs.

"I'm just more worried about the Russian Navy." San Diego sighs. "They might not have the most illustrious of records, but they're still highly unpredictable."

"Ah, we can handle 'em!" You laugh which is cut short by the Osprey shuddering rather noticeably. "I'm more worried about this goddamn weather!"

"Sorry girls!" The pilot apologizes. "We weather's turned real bad real fast. I'm not sure if we can make the LZ!"

"We're too far in to just scrub the mission, though." Heerman frowns.

"But it'll be dangerous to press on in this weather." San Diego points out.

"I was in the North Atlantic. Rough seas are nothing to me." Haida points out.

"All right. set us down here." You instruct the pilot. "We'll take it the rest of the way."

"Got it." The pilot nods.

The Osprey drops altitude, and hovers as close to the water's surface as it can, which is a bit difficult given the massive waves surging upwards periodically. Thankfully, the pilot is able to find the right timing to get to a safe drop height, allowing you, your sisters, Haida, and San Diego to leap out.

Almost immediately, you're hit in the face with a wall of wind and water. Your legs shake and tremble as they try to maintain balance on the rough seas.

"Is this a natural storm!?" Johnston hollers.

"Who knows, but we need to get through it!" San Diego shouts back over the howling wind.

"Follow me! I'll take the lead!" Haida's voice crackles over the radio.

You then see a flickering red and green light in the darkness and rain. A navigation light to let you know where Haida was.

You and the squadron try to push through the storm, maintaining visual contact with Haida. You and your sisters also huddle fairly close to San Diego, whose larger size allows her to withstand the waves much better than you all can. This continues for about half an hour with your objective nowhere in sight.

"Haida! Are you sure we're on course!?" You yell.

"We should have passed the original LZ!" Haida responds. "Just a little more!"

Easy for her to say. You could barely even stay upright in these heavy seas, much less press forward at any kind of speed.

"Maybe we should call for backup!?" Heerman suggests.

"The storm seems to be interfering with comms." San Diego shakes her head. "We'll need to get clear of this weather or find something more powerful!"

And all the while, you've been trying to keep an eye on your surroundings through your radar, though the heavy seas and rainfall definitely weren't doing you any favors. However, you do pick up two groups of contacts. Faint, but definitely there. Unfortunately, you simply couldn't tell numbers or composition.

Fortunately, though. It seems these contacts were having just as much trouble in the storm as you were, or at least weren't moving very fast.

"Watch out! We've got company up ahead!" You warn Haida.

"So what do we do?" She asks back.

Well, you can't just let unknown contacts roam around freely in your area. At least not without confirming what exactly they were first. You plot out the rough position of the closer group.

"Haida! We've got unknown contacts northwest of us!" You call out. "Shift course that way and we'll figure out what they are!"

"Roger!" Haida nods and you see the nav lights veer off. You and the rest of the squadron turn to follow.

Your squadron continues to press on. You're only scant few kilometers from the contacts when your radar finally manages to pick out what it's seeing, and you blood goes cold. Well, colder than it already is from this damn storm. Up in front of you was an Abyssal flotilla. Four destroyers, one heavy cruiser, and one Princess class.

"Watch out, it's Abyssals!" You yell.

"I know, I have visual!" Haida yells back. "They're heading our way!"

Unfortunately, it looks like they've managed to spot you, too. The Abyssals start to pick up speed.

"This is not ideal battle conditions!" San Diego warns. "We shouldn't engage them here!"

"Yeah, but will they give us the chance?" Heerman frowns.

"It's just a patrol! We can handle them!" Johnston grins confidently as she cracks her knuckles.

Thankfully, the weather and heavy seas don't seem to be doing many favors for the Abyssals, either. As you and your squadron power through the waves, you keep an eye on your radar. The Abyssals tail your formation and manage to keep pace, but soon start to fall behind. One contact, the Princess contact, continues onward at an alarming rate of speed, giving you a clue to her identity. However, the contact finally stops and reverses direction to link up with the rest of her flotilla. Looks like she realized she couldn't fight you all on her own.

"That was a close one." You sigh.

"It's just a reprieve." San Diego reminds you. "They know we're here now, which means they'll be back and in greater numbers."

"All the more reason to get this done as soon as possible." Haida grunts. "I'm putting us back on course. Stay close."

You continue on for another half hour, cold and miserable in this storm. Finally, through flashes of lightning, you catch glimpses of a hard an angular structure skylining against the dark horizon.

"I think I see it!" You announce.

"Yeah, I think I see it too." Haida says in agreement.

Suddenly, there's another flash of light, but not from lightning. A number of searchlights, bright as the sun, wink on, shining directly into your face.

"Agh!" You grunt.

And suddenly, radio crackles to life with a female voice barking an alien language.

"It's Russian!" Haida says as she pauses, listening to the transmission. "Erm, I think she's asking who we are and what we're doing here."

"Tell them the Americans have come to save the day!" You say.

"Um... okay?" Haida groans. "Let's see if I can word it in a way they understand..."

Haida barks back your response over the radio in that alien Russian language. Whole seconds pass with no activity until finally, the bright searchlights dim a bit to more manageable levels. That's when you see several humanoid figures approaching.

The the battleship taking front and center was a beast of a woman. Tall, powerful, with pale and slightly scraggly blonde hair whipping in the wind. However, the bad weather didn't seem to bother her as she had a very joyful look on her face. The two cruisers behind her were less enthusiastic, but seemed obedient enough.

"Ah! Americanski!" The battleship girl says happily. "Come! You must be freezing in this weather!"

The Russian battleship then motions to a lowered lift, ready to take you all up the main body of the oil rig. At this point, you were all cold and soaked, so none of you hesitated.

"Haha! I have wondered when you would come!" The battleship chuckles as you all step onto the lift. A snap of her fingers, and one of the cruisers hits the lift control, and the steel platform begins to rise up, the upper section of the oil rig thankfully blocking most of the rain out. "It is great relief to see you!"

And then you spot it. That slight movement, that body language...

That Russian battleship was going in for the HUG.

Unfortunately, given the combined space, there's nothing you can do to avoid the Russian bearhug, as the battleship is somehow able to snake her arms around not just you, but all of your squadmates as well. And then she's got enough leftover strength to simply life all of you up and SQUEEZE.

"Ah! Where are manners! I am Petropavlovsk!" The battleship laughs, still crushing all of you in her powerful hold.

"You should not be so friendly with them, Petra!" One of the cruisers tuts.

"Yes! They may be spies!" The other grumbles.

"Do not mind Kirov and Molotov!" Petrapavlovsk chuckles. "The Bolshevik ships are always such mistrustful bunch!"

The Russian cruisers don't say anything back, merely glower.

"But they do raise good point!" Petrapavlovsk says as she FINALLY lets all of you down, letting you catch much needed breaths. "How did you find this place?"

"Well we just happened to have very good intel." You shrug and point upwards. "You now, spy satellites and stuff."

"Ah! I am of little understanding of your modern technology, but no matter!" Petropavlovsk laughs. "Come, you are soaked and cold! We will get you dry and warm and then we shall feed you like czars!"

"But-" Kirov starts to complain.

"Is all right!" Petropavlovsk quickly cuts her off. "If the Americanski are here, then food is no concern!"

"Do you have supply issues?" San Diego asks warily.

"Such is life in Russia!" Petropavlovsk shrugs casually. "Always too little, so make do with you have!"

That... wasn't very encouraging.

Finally, the lift reaches the top, bringing you all into the interior of the oil rig. Petropavlovsk quickly steps off and motions for you to follow.

"Come! Come! We will gather the others to meet you!"

You're all suddenly interrupted by a clanging sound from above.

"What is that!?" Haida gasps, instinctively manifesting one of her guns and pointing it at the ceiling.

"Do not worry, is only Tashkent!" Petropavlovsk smiles. "Is hobby of hers! Now come, let us get some borscht in your bellies!"

"Hey, this might sound like a weird question..." You speak up. "But, uh, do you happen to have any German ships around...?"

Kirov and Molotov exchange looks, while Petrapavlovsk grins.

"Which one?"

"You have... more than one?" You hesitate.

"Ha! Is of kidding!" The battleship laughs. "But we do have one! Kirov, show her to Z-52's room! The rest of you can follow me!"

"Go get her, Hoel!" Johnston whispers as she punches you playfully in the shoulder.

"Good luck." Heerman adds.

"Come. Let's get this over with." Kirov grunts as she leads you away from the main group, heading down the rusting steel halls.

"Hey, is there something up between you and Petra?" You ask curiously.

"It is none of your concern." Kirov grunts, not even breaking her stride.

"Just a simple question?" You frown.

"Petra and her sisters are all wonderful ships." Kirov sighs in frustration. "And they haven't led us astray, but they are... old fashioned."

"Something to do with her calling ya a Bolshevik?" You wonder.

"Petra and her sisters have... rather fond memories of the times before the Revolution." Kirov explains. "Me and my sisters, however, were much more... recent."

"Waitaminute, so Russia wasn't always Soviet?" You raise an eyebrow.

Kirov turns her head, a really funny grumpy look on her face.

"Just kiddin'! I was messing with ya!" You grin. "Though honestly, I didn't even know Russia even HAD battleships during the War!"

"Well, they were holdovers from interwar period." Kirov shrugs. "And few in number."

Finally, Kirov stops in front of an innocuous door.

"This leads to Z-52's quarters. I'll be waiting down the hall." Kirov says as she walks off.

Boy, not exactly the most friendly of ships.

Once you were sure Kirov was out of earshot, you quickly knock on the door.

"Hey! Woel! Are ya in there?" You hiss.

The door immediately cracks open, revealing, well, your face.

"Hoel?!" Her eyes widen. "So you really did come!"

"Damn right I did!" You grin. "So ya gonna let me in or what?"

"Y-yeah! Of course!" Woel nods as she opens the door and steps back.

You notice Woel winding up for a pre-emptive tackle hug, and even though she was fast, you were faster. You leap forward and catch her straight in the abdomen, sending you both falling over onto the floor.

"Ah! You fucking bitch!" Woel laughs. "I knew you were gonna fucking do that!"

"Gotta strike first, ya know!" You laugh as well, securing your hold around your twin. "It's so great to see ya in person again!"

"Same" Woel nods and pauses. "Wait, are... are you CRYING?"

"S-SO WHAT IF I AM!" You blubber, not bothering to wipe the tears from your eyes. "I'm just glad to see ya!"

"I figured." Woel smiles as she wipes a tear from her eye as well. "Also, CHRIST, you're soaking wet!"

"Well, it sorta IS raining outside..." You point out as you finally get up and help pull Woel back up to her feet.

"Yeah, I'm not even gonna ask why you even came here in this shitstorm." Woel shakes her head. "And not alone, I take it?"

"A few of our buds are here too." You nod. "I guess they're all meeting up in the mess hall or something."

"Figures. It's the closest thing we have to a meeting room on this rig." Woel nods. "So... you're gonna take all these girls back, right?"

"That's right." You nod.

"So... where would that leave me?" She asks.

Create fake papers, new ship designations, etc. etc. She can always be re-flagged as a German Fletcher

Also wondering if shipgirl otakus have been trying to identify Paz. Based on her appearances, they might think she's a CV with 8-in guns like Lexington.

"I'm sure the Admiral can protect ya." You assure her. "Vahlen's pretty distracted with, uh, 'another project' now."

"What? What kind of project?" Woel's eyes widen in surprise.

"Probably better if I showed it to ya." You sigh. "Besides, you can probably keep your cover as a German ship, if only for a little while. Spee will definitely call ya out on that."

"Jeez, must have been some seriously crazy shit going on. Woel rolls her eyes.

The two of you are then interrupted by a knock and turn to see Kirov at the door, an impatient look on her face.

"Perhaps it should be time to meet with the others." She glowers, eying the both of you suspiciously.

"All right, let's go." You nod.

Kirov gives you and Woel one more suspicious look. You were guessing she was put off by how similar the two of you looked. However, she doesn't say anything continues spins around.

"Well, are you coming or not?" She grunts.

You and Woel follow Kirov through the metal hallways until you reach the mess hall. As expected, it was fairly small, due to having to fit on this fairly cramped oil rig. However, it was packed and lively. there were dozens of shipgirls gathered of various types, all gathered around your squadronmates. Obviously utterly fascinated with them. However, there was someone else with them, hugging San Diego and crying tears of joy.

"Hey, she looks kinda familiar..." You frown.

"Oh, that's Milwaukee." Woel says simply.

"MILWAUKEE?" You gasp. "The fuck is she doing here?"

"Apparently she got sold to the Russians at the end of the War, and when she came back, well, she ended up in Russia." Woel shrugs.

"Looks like she didn't have a good time." You surmise, judging from the look of absolute relief in Milwaukee's eyes.

"Yep. Apparently never liked being stuck with the Reds." Woel sighs. "Guess it's a tradition for them not to treat their ships well."

"They were abusin' her?!" You growl.

"Well, not exactly!" Woel shakes her head. "It's just more... general neglect, yeah? That didn't really change much in the past fifty years."

"I see." You grumble.

And that's when you catch sight of four battleships at the head of the room, overlooking the commotion. You immediately recognized Petropavlovsk, and you figure the other battleships were her sister ships or something. They definitely looked to be the de factor leaders of this ragtag outfit.

"I'm gonna go talk to the head honchos." You say to Woel.

"Well, good luck." Woel nods. "They're all pretty cool most of the time, so you shouldn't have anything to worry about."

"Yeah, we'll see." You grin as you gently push your way to the battleships.

"Ah! Hoel!" Petropavlovsk's eyes flash as she sees you approach. "Meet my sisters! Gangut, Sevastopol, and Poltava!"

You can see that her sisters were just as well built as her body wise. Large and muscular. Sevastapol may as well have been Petra's identical twin, while Gangut had pure white hair and Poltava was more a brunette. All of them were dressed in what looked to be some sort of fancy royal uniforms. No doubt carryovers from the old Russian Empire, judging from what Kirov had revealed about them.

"I take it you are the leader of this little American expedition?" Gangut asks warily, apparently showing more caution than her sister ship.

"That's right." You nod.

"And what is your objective?"

"Well, we figured you all were on the run from Russia." You say. "So we're offering you all a sort of... 'out' I guess? We'll get ya all out of here out from under the Russians' noses!"

The battleships murmur to each other for a bit before turning back to you. Gangut clears her throat.

"And do you have a plan for this?"

"Of course." You nod. "Well, the original plan was that we would confirm your location and send helicopters to airlift us all out, but that's pretty much gonna be impossible in this storm."

"Yes, this weather is rather inconvenient." Gangut sighs. "And our scouts have been reporting that Abyssal and Russian patrols are starting to venture closer and closer. I fear that it will not be long until or secret base is no longer secret."

"Perhaps we can all leave together? Head out of the storm as a combined fleet?" Poltava suggests. "Together, we have more than enough firepower to repel any attack!"

"It would be next to impossible to keep such a large fleet together in such a storm." Sevastapol frowns as she eyes the Russian destroyers. "I fear the little ones could be lost."

"Quite the predicament, yes?" Petra nods.

"We practically ran into an Abyssal patrol on the way here. Barely thirty minutes away." You shake your head. "We have to leave now. It's only a matter of time before the find this place and surround it. Better we start moving before the Abyssals can muster their full forces."

The four battleships again mumble and mutter to each other before turning back to you.

"And I don't suppose you'll be the only American ships assisting us?" Gangut asks.

"We have a bunch of reinforcements just waiting for the word to deploy." You say. "If you got something with enough signal strength to transmit out of the storm, we can shoot a message to them to link up with us halfway."

"Then it is settled!" Petra claps her hands together. "We shall make arrangements for the expedition!"

Well, convincing them to roll with the plan was easy enough. Now all you had to do was hope you could actually pull it off...
