About Characters=

Pageheisters in this game are comprised of a META which does not change unless in extreme circumstances.

They choose an archetype, a role for their first heist. Typically this also comes with skills in which case they get to populate those skill slots with those Archetype Skill/abilities. Anyone playing an archetype can have access to all their skills but can only bring as many of them as they have skill slots. Skill slots can be swapped out for other skills within your archetype, or however many of another archetype as you have levels.

Example a LV1 Loser Snitch currently playing a GUNMAN can slot in 1-3 GUNMAN SKILLS, but only be limited to ONE Snitch Skill due to their level. On top of levels in other archetypes, you can import a skill from another class you have never used by using INSPIRATION [Star]


The combination of META / Archetype/ Skills/ Items make up an ALTEREGO. These Alter Egos are what you bring into a PageHeist, for if anything should happen to /you/ in the literary plane, will happen to /them/ canonically instead.. Just think of it as an outer layer of your suit. A name on a form, a fake identity that cane take a bullet for you. ALTER EGOs are expendable, but you are not.

=About Movement=
New Features.
Pageheisters in this game has two kinds of movement, each at the cost of one ACT.[coffee]

Stride. You may move 2 "spaces" in any cardinal direction except diagonal. You cannot mix Strides and steps together but you are allowed to "squeeze" through gaps 1 step wide.

Step. You may walk at a calm speed of 1 "step" per move and even traverse diagonally. You can also end your movement "pressed" against a tile or object to lower your profile.

Pressing, Squeezing, bunching. Medium creatures take up 2x2 squares by default however they may press or squeeze up into a unit or an enemy's tile, prohibiting the target from taking actions towards past your vector. Take note however that you are vulnerable to single target attacks if you bunch up in someone's tile. Unlike stepping or Striding, Pressing does not require an action but will trigger when the character is close to an object.

Hmmm alright everyone gather around, it seems we have our hands on our first job.

=Blue Justice Issue 100=
"Justice for Blue"

Recently this comic became very popular with kids of all ages as well as a misty eyed demographic of generation Xers that missed a good clean detective comic with grit, brains, and action. But recently the Original Author for it walked out on it due to a licensing disagreement and now, Madhax publishing stands to gain the momentum of this franchise going forward. What was supposed to be a climactic battle between Blue Justice and the Red Thief turns out to be an uncharacteristic death of our main character, only to be taken up by an in-house created hero by- you Guessed It: Captain Capital.

Captain Capital represents everything wrong with an otherwise clean ending to a story, and instead he will be slated to go forward in the next 10 years avenging Blue Justice, but never once uttering his character's real name.

Since this is your first job, the person who filed the request doesn't care if you break the canon or alter it how you see fit, but the canonical Left hand of Justice is our target. Steal it , and Captain Capital is denied his inheritance by the soon to be late Blue Justice.

We will make preparations tonight. and a map will be ready for YOUR EYES ONLY. But I will urge this once. DO NOT read the manuscript until then. Mary will be in charge of the Reading, and until that day, be prepared to go toe to toe with the Red Thief, Metro Corp Security, Captain Capital, or even Blue himself.

The pistol fires 20x1 or 15x2.

To that you add your own HIT, which if you're the competent sort (you loser) would be 30 - so that's either 1 roll vs 50 or 2 rolls vs 45, +5 for a gunman.

Then someone else (like me) tries to threaten you and I hit on 1*35 or 2*30. Which aren't exactly good odds.

In the Literal, levelling up takes place with the Archetype your AlterEgo inhabits as a result, new archetypes will always feel like a new fit everytime you put them on. However, do not despair, one can always borrow from the Skills and Ranks they had from their old archetypes, up to their skill slots. Ranks are ever present in your memory so dont worry about it. How much of those skills can they borrow ? Well up to their level in that Archetype of course. However things bought with [*] Inspiration will always be available to you provided you have the skill slots.

Now the rub, you can only use the level X functions of your meta if you did indeed have an archetype that attained that level of competence. For example, LVL3 Inspirational Mutation can be accessed by the archetypes that are level 3 or higher. However since experience is fluid, you can use it to purchase levels in archetypes you have yet tried.

Would you allow me to change aspects of Maylie that haven't seen use yet, now that I understand the rules better? I would remove Alquemy and push the Rank into Artist's Signature -- I did not know that those skills were Rank-based at all and had assumed that the 'Rank' in their formula referred to class level.

Would it be too snowflakey to ask that the +1 Mov for the artist be switchable for +5 LRN? Some artists I envision in quiet studios honing their skills rather than sprinting through the streets and away from the cops, bucket in hand.

STR- Ability to Damage in melee as well as Lift objects of a certain weight class, or use weapons with a requirement. Some skills even use STR as a boost to HIT Rating.

I can do that for almost five minutes at a time now. Mostly. I'll get it up to ten minutes eventually with some effort and a lot more ash-stains.

What I *want* is more direction over the energy release and the chaos so I can push myself when I need to. It would seem that our client will be pleased, you can tell him the good news yourself when he arrives with the money. As for the glove, I will vouch that it has power as an object, Anyone who wears it is capable of near invincibility if they believe in their own justice anyways. In a world like this one, no one exists with that strong a core. And its powers have yet to be unlocked either, it seems the "Theory Writers" Have smoked this one to be an almighty object but unfortunately it only works with those who have absolute characteristics.

Now the good news, it seems that MadHax have decided to overhaul the script, and I'm delivering this badboy to them.

Pachelbel: Did they suspect anything ?

O'hara: No, I imagine that with the exit of both Red thief and Blue Justice they've written themselves into a corner solely populated by Captain Capital, with only "shady crooks" and "Robotic Thugs" to fight. Its prospects as a story will not last a few issues more. Which leads me to my next point,

The Author is being called back to renegotiate his contract. And to rewrite Blue Justice as a crime fighting / martial artist/ now that the Glove is out of picture. Its value as an object will soon dwindle but I intend to sell this off on opening week of the comic for about . . . this much.

The moment the cafe disappeared Mr. Chill had released his grip on Captain Capital, thrown down his weapons, and surrendered. For a brief tense moment Captain Capital kept his weapons trained on the thief, fingers tense on their triggers. Mr. Chill waited solemnly, his breathing heavy as the exhaustion from the of the last several minutes of frantic exertion set in. “Where are they?” Captain Capital finally asked, breaking the silence. “Alive,” Mr. Chill responded simply. The next several hours were a blur. Under heavy restraint and guard he'd been taken Justice Asylum. His weapons and even cloths confiscated and replaced with a simple prisoner jumpsuit. They'd even gone so far as to turn off his primary power core, leaving him to run on auxiliary power. He was glad his magnetic emitter weren't readily noticeable or they would have likely attempted to confiscate his hands as well. Then he'd been paraded past the prisoner cells. The parade was normally intended to intimidate new arrivals. Most new prisoners would be so terrified of having to spend time in the company of such vaunted criminals as Doctor Green blood, The Black Terror, Pink Pickpocket, or any of the other notorious criminals locked away in the Asylum, that they'd confess their crimes without even needing to be questioned. However, word of Mr. Chill's crimes had already spread among the prisoner population. Destruction of personal property, theft of the Left Hand of Justice, two counts of murder, accomplice to thirteen counts of murder (Red Thief among them), and accomplice to the assassination of Blue Justice. Some of the prisoners cheered as the parade passed, most watched silently as they attempted to gauge the new prisoner. By the time the parade reached the interrogation room it was the guards who appeared nervous. Mr. Chill sat silently through the questioning. Even as the detective sitting opposite yelled and pounded the table. Even as a chair was thrown over his head and hot coffee 'accidentally' spilled into his lap. It wasn't fear or pride that kept him from speaking, as the detective kept alternately insisting, it was apprehension. Would they believe the truth if he told them? Even for a comic book it seemed far fetched. Eventually the detective decided to give Mr. Chill some alone time to think and left the room. He had known when he decided to restrain Captain Capital so Red Thief could escape that he was sacrificing his life. In truth he had expected to die at the hands of Captain Capital, a fate he could have accepted. The prospect of spending the rest of his existence rusting away in a cell however, seemed terribly anticlimactic after the events he'd taken part in. As he sat brooding a piece of paper floated down from nowhere to land on the table in front of Mr. Chill. Startled at it's sudden appearance he looked around for it's source and found nothing. Finally looking to the paper itself he found a crudely drawn candle and a name. “Candle Jack?

“I...thank you,” was all Zero could manage as he stared down at the package. He was still having a hard time believing he was back in reality. When he'd first been stuffed into the sack he'd thought he was being dragged off to be executed. With only auxiliary power to work with his attempts at struggling proved rather futile and he was forced to accept his fate. Then his captor had begun talking about pie.

Eventually he'd been dumped unceremoniously from the sack into the middle of the cafe. The surprise at his surroundings was plain on Zero's face. 1 - Cap on [Move] stat.
* Stride + Step means you can move far. Thieves & Artists get +1 Mov per Level, and lvl 3 artist hit 7 or 8 move really quick. Striding can move up to 16 squares with 1 action then. That invalidates map size and means they leave anyone else behind. In Floors, WD, SB and so on high move was great, but here even little move pays 2x dividends on Striding. It doesn't need to reach 8!

*Something like +½ Mov per Class lvl makes it less big or "max mov 8, +1 move is +5% hit or int if it would increase your move beyond 8"

2 - Artists Potency rejigger
* Artist get their POT & AUTHORITY from int/10, but do not increase Int on lvl. Paper Medium + Life Drawing can be used to scale up with Inspiration, but that takes ressources.

A Doc gets +1 rank per lvl and a Doc that picks up Paper Medium becomes a better artist than the Artist class. The +ranks a doc gets give +pot, +authority and +10 to hit. Maybe change the +5 Hit per lvl for artists and make it +[Pot] or +[Authority] so a higher class lvl artist gets better at Paper Medium / Eye / Pageworks. Then the loss of to-hit can be made up for with paid ranks.

3 - Skillrank hardening.
*Skillranks (Mech, Medical, Alq) are +10 per rank and apply to all rolls. That means a Doc trivially gets very high on lvl 1
>(Int average 27.5, +10 for Doc, +10 for Petticoat, +10 For rank, +10 For doc-rank, Mechanical Precision +10, +Gear 10-30 = 87-117).

Getting a rank and optimizing to use it is the best possible increase in power.

A blanket rule like "Rank Bonus do not apply to offensive actions" or something similar would be useful.

**Sidenote: To avoid processors having to track anything extra, make it a rule that people tabulate out their skill + gear + rank bonus tohit, else it counts as base.

4 - DUCK
Have an action everyone can take that provides some sort of protection. DODGE or DUCK or COVER. Right now a shield is the only mitigation, which means fire-fights are rocket tag affairs. With high move, +30 to melee hits and str+atk damage, people die in one turn and can’t avoid it A basic [Roll vs Mov * 5 to Dodge] Dodge action means you can trade in an action for some defense.

5 - Friendly Fire!
Firing in the same direction a teammate is standing should have the ability to cause friendly fire. People can squeeze up and stack to prevent it. But shooting your friends is fun

It would seem that without the help of an author, these objects will take some effort to come out fully fabricated. But on the plus side, you can use these to upgrade an existing weapon and the pages seem like they can be reliably redrawn so long as you have the pages left in the book.

Trinket rubbed his cheeks. Mary told him to try reading the stack of comics he bought in the freezer. It was either a terrible joke or genuine experience that led to that advice. Considering he had some time to kill and an iced latte the mutant figured it couldn't hurt to try. Trinket needed an edge and it'd have to be more flexible power. He took a sip of the latte, relaxed his lower half as it formed into water and began reading.

Trinket was alway disappointed with his mutation. He knew it had potential but could never show it off. If he had a cooler mutation, he could have joined the combat school like his cousin. Never mind his grades were crap and he could barely stand being around the Ral Grand kids. Still he wondered what life was like there. Pulling heists was paying the bills, but if was going to be set he'd need to take on bigger jobs.

Also some rules and clarification for

=Authority=

In the litera, creatives are capable of creating objects through their authority which can then interact in the world of the Litera once drawn out. Further techniques maybe employed to enact more alterations to the world but be wary as it may not exist in the world's context or threaten its stability, and the heist.

Inside bookspace, Pages can be torn from other books to manifest certain effects. Multiple drawn pages can be torn with one action at the cost of those ranks.

An artist can [Sketch] something they see, and use it later using one Act. This succeeds automatically but an action must be readied to capture it if the subject is not yet readily visible.

A sketchbook has pages. One page holds one sketch. A sketch gives Ranks to the Artist, which give Authority that define how strong an effect is. Sketching something and holding it in the sketchbook increases Artist Rank at a rate of one page for one rank but only for the objects in that book thereafter [unless paper medium is taken.]

Using [Draw Out] an empty page can be used to manifest a drawing, using those ranks as a source. With paper medium, all books you have access to can be used for ranks. Draw Out requires a sucessful HITRoll with ranks boosting that roll by 5%. Its potency will be based on INTPot + Ranks as well similar to authority.

In a last ditch situation, an Artist can [Tear]pages from their sketchbook to manifest many things rapidly, but this will tear the pages that provide Ranks and lower authority in subsequent manifestation attempts. No roll will be required for this one however.

If someone has a sketchbook with many ranks, they can use INK and Brushes to paint on the Environment. Outside of collecting reference, they are not spending pages, but the environment has to be of a suitable element to support your drawing or you must provide ink with an element that aligns to the drawing.

Items Sketched or Drawn Out lasts for one heist.
To make these items be permanent, Inspiration can be spent.

References are needed to produce sketches, something you can see or reference from a Guidebook. To sketch something entirely new, spend 1 Inspiration.
