Welcome back, everyone, to the eighty-third installment of Mecha Space Pirate Quest. As always, I'm Wong, your host, and today you are once again Heinrich "Caesar" Merrow, an Iron Kestrel ace and former member of SOUL. At least, when you aren't being tourney pilots.

It seems like I owe you lads a writeup of the last fight and, although I've been virtually undead for the past several days, I'm feeling much better now, so let's handle that.

The next fight, by the way, is the Libra versus the Buddy. It and Dutchman versus Chimera are the two CONFIRMED ones.
>>
>>1399295
Alright. I exist and have been looking more at mecha construction. Glad to see you are alright Wong.
>>
Also it still blows my mind that the Jager is a Pumpkinseed when it's built like a really high-class Morgan II to the very nines.

>Libra versus the Buddy

Awesome, I was worried that I'd be up on a day I had to work.

Although the Captcha's have been pissing me off lately, it took about ten minutes just to make this post.

We are back!

Well it is Skunk. With who he is based off, the simple way doesn't seem to suit him. Really, the Jager and Lightning are probably two machines that could be recycled pretty easily from defeated mechs. Just need weapons and theirs are both pretty basic. Would certainly make turnover fast. Another idea was scooping thrusters, sensors, and even parts to make up for CP when using Psyche. If the parts are already made, we don't need to make them. Just modify them a bit for the model, reshape the armor, and boom! Discount 140s.

Sir Victor Gainsborough, as calm and polite as he is, has a heart of fire on the battlefield. With the pounding beat of the soundtrack Akai put together for him echoing through the speaker system of his mech, and the sound of women's voices singing in the ancient Nipponese tongue, he fires his heeljets and ascends to the very ceiling of the arena.

He's unaware, because the viewing pods are one-way, that General Fairchild in the closest one blanches and nearly calls for her guards, only staying composed with effort as the Avalonian mech aims with its lance at the heavily upgraded Kestrel Pumpkinseed variant that remains hunkered down in its starting position against the wall. It fires a shell from max range, misses, and Victor clicks his tongue in annoyance, “Truly, you'll make me come to you? Very well, then.” He speeds forward...but not as quickly as he did in the first fight. No. Not at first. There's a small but powerful booster jet pack based on the Ulfberht's design now situated between the Templar's shoulderblades, and as it ignites it hurtles forward with the speed of a rocket.

The Jager remains in position. Skunk, during his wartime days, learned the value of discipline and holding one's ground. Let the arrogant little sporeboy come to him. He's busy examining it for spore vents, but...he doesn't see any, nor are his sensors picking any up. He lifts his flamethrower, and fires a cursory blast, which the Templar dodges.

Zigging and zagging at the speed of a wayward meteor, the Templar extends both legs and spins like a drill, drailed by gloriously dramatic contrails of flame as it hurtles towards the Jager. The drab, heavily armored mech interposes its big, oval-shaped shield, and although the sheer force of the kick dents it and knocks it back against the wall, Skunk holds firm.

“There can be only one!” Sir Victor Gainsborough roars. He stabs once with his lance, and the Jager ducks half a meter away from it, the heat of the weapon charring its paint. He stabs again, and once more meets the shield, carving a blackened gouge into it. His heart surges with triumph. Akai is watching. His Countess is watching. His Grace the Duke is watching. For the glory of the Lady and the Queen he will prevail, he will smite this passive, seemingly defenseless foeman and demonstrate the power of Avalon. This music has awaked a glorious madness in him, an urge to dance among the stars, and he cannot help but acquiesce to its demands.

Skunk...isn't there. He's somewhere far away. A world of black sand and glassy craters, and it isn't a wall behind him. It's a rock formation. Half of his friends are dead, and by the time this memory is played out, so are the rest of them, and his mech is destroyed...but that's a story from long ago, back when he had a name. Things are different this time.

The enemy bio-armor rears up before him. Huge and verdant green, its tentacles drag it forward where its destroyed legs have failed. Its head is partially crumpled, a misshapen orb studded with ocular lenses. As he watches, the nearest tentacle twists like a wrung dishrag, hardening into a screw-shaped lance and stabbing down towards him. He feels the impact as his shield takes the hit...but despite not being an ace, he keeps calm.

How many untold numbers of young men like him willingly walked into the fires of war with no expectation of coming home again? His death means little in the long run, if his team doesn't finish off the Green Man that dominated this world, the next one will, or the next. Each blow they deal is leaving marks, faster than the Green Man's bio-armor can repair itself, and on the horizon, rather than stars visible from gaps in the arena, he sees the black dots of approaching reinforcements.

The double-ended glaive is an incredibly simple weapon, almost unchanged from the days of the Great Sidereal War. The Jager spins its wrist as Skunk does as his training taught him. Disarm. Immobilize. Like wolves, his team will circle around and make the kill. He spins his body in the direction of the blow that impacts his shield, whipping his right arm around. Just like in his memories, when his body moved more easily but had less skill and experience, the razor-sharp hyperalloy tip pierces straight through the enemy's weapon. In his memory, that was because he found a soft spot between the scales, and today...it's because he's lodged the tip in the action of the semi-automatic cannon of the Templar's lance with so much force it bends it. He swings powerfully, and rips through the mechanical pieces, severing the power source that gives it its armor-piercing heat.

Victor reels back, stunned at the speed of the old man's attack. His lance is broken. Frantically, he tries to think of a solution. Even as he does, the other end of the glaive peels back the outermost layer of his torso armor.

Skunk shakes his head violently, back in the present. Step one, accomplished. Now, to ensure there aren't any means for this whippersnapper to explode in a cloud of spores. While Victor tries frantically to grab his glaive, Skunk lunges forward, slamming the lighter Templar down to the ground and twisting the point of the glaive around, ripping off the cuirass and digging into the circuitry beneath.

“Damn it!” Victor swears, hitting the eject button. He wasn't expecting such mad strength from such an unobtrusive opponent.

Originally before it turned out he just commandeered a mech without anyone noticing I imagined he got a pumpkinseed 1 because they were cheap and he had it remodeled over time to be heavier.

Skunk doesn't notice, continuing to dissect the Templar, searching frantically...and finding nothing of what he expected. No spores. No biological components. Nothing that could produce spores at all...in fact, to all appearances, this is an old mech, based on designs that were initially Jovian.

“And the Pumpkinseed Jager, piloted by Skunk, is the winner!” Red Siren crows, “A strong early showing for the Iron Kestrels entries! Skunk, take a bow! Skunk? Er, Mister Skunk? Hey, you, you won!”

“Mmmph.” Skunk comments noncommittally, continuing his dissection and ignoring her. He's good at ignoring flighty women.

“Mister Skunk, please, you're making a mess of my arena!” The Archen stomps its foot, “Darling, help!”

The Knuckle Kaiser raises its right arm, firing its magnetic grappling harpoon and waving the five drone-propelled claws in front of the Jager's face. The heavily modified and upscaled Pumpkinseed impatiently bats it away, then shrugs, stomping back towards the entrance to its bay without fanfare. Inwardly, its pilot is already absorbed in trying to figure out what diabolical chicanery this red herring of a mech is meant to mask, and what the Green Man cultists are really planning.

“Er...well now...” The Archen claps its hands as Red Siren recovers her composure, red-and-pink Harpies descending to gather up the pieces of the Templar, including its pilot, and shuttle them away to its own bay, “On to the next match!”

Meanwhile, in an observation pod, Sir Gaius Wesker, clad in his full armor, is watching intently, both at the fight and at how Countess Tabitha Roosevelt can't seem to decide whether to be scowling or smirking. Mostly she scowls when she thinks people are watching her, and smirking when they move on. In another observation pod, Countess Loriette le Kennedy is comforting Akai, who's crying a little into her plate of lemon tarts. Despite the girl being of the lowest birth, she rather likes the tiny witch and thinks Sir Victor has found himself a fine girl to be involved with.

"Well now, for our next fight...I'm pleased to give you the Libra, piloted by the gallant Alexander Grant..." Red Siren pauses a moment, for the cheers she rightly suspects are coming from her fangirls, among whom Alexander is extremely popular, "...And the former UJCIDF pilot, Walter Sato and his stylish Morgan II 'Buddy' Custom!"

Indeed. Pumpkinseeds are going to be pretty good loot for us in the future. Even if it's just a basic machine, that medium striker frame and armor can be modified with ease. You can go Pumpkinseed II, Dutchmen, Myrm, Lightning, Pharcyde, and several other machines from it. That saves about 70-80 cp on production right there.

In her own observation pod, General Fairchild makes a face, "Former pilot...damn that woman, why does she have to rub it in? As far as I'm concerned, deserters like that are no better than pirates."

"Even Farragut?" Bethany asks, then regrets it immediately. The two women have finally found some time to be alone, the lights are dimmed, and she's rubbing the stress out of Hermione's shoulders with her strong, skillful hands. Much to her surprise, though, the General doesn't react the way she expected.

"Perhaps I've been a fool all along." Fairchild sighs quietly.

“What?” Bethany Cabot's hands stop moving, which earns her a reproachful look from the General. Sheepishly, she resumes the massage.

“I'm saying that maybe, just maybe, I've been thinking too highly of her for some time now. That I was trying to make something perfect with imperfect materials. Maybe...” She pauses, then says quietly, “Maybe I've been missing what I've really been searching for, all this time. Maybe it's been right here all along.”

Bethany Cabot's heart does a backflip. Despite the fact that she's quite shameless about using her body in the pursuit of power and status, both in the bedchamber and in the cockpit of a mech, something in those words is like a rainstorm in the desert, a breath of life on something withered and harsh. Her hands move lower, and the General purrs like a kitten.

“When this is over...you and I need to talk.” She says, and for once she isn't General Fairchild, just Hermione. “About many things. A long, and serious talk about what we do from now on, but first...let's ruin this bastard Starwind and put old ghosts to rest, agreed?”

A sunny smile lights the dark haired woman's face, and for once, rather than responding properly, she grabs Fairchild's face in her hands and kisses her breathless. Consequently, both of them miss the Buddy's extremely cool entrance, sliding in from its mechbay and raising sparks from the Arena floor as it comes to a stop and raises its hand in a salute to the audience. The knife-winged Libra, too, leaps from its bay and lands in a crouch, the barrel extension for sniping on the CROWE removed and the ESTER bayonet affixed in its place. With their black and white color schemes and disparate designs, they look custom-built to duel each other.

The Libra is technically a custom Pumpkinseed with smaller legs, head, and a small pair of wings attached.

I say technically because I basically just lifted the frame stats of the Pumpkinseed 1 and worked from there.

Alright, we've got some people. Who wants to control a mech? I MIGHT run one, depending on who's around. Remember, only volunteer if you're sure you're up to it and have a good grasp on the rules. If you don't know, it's better to hold back.

I know how he feels, I used to have that problem a lot even semi-recently.
>>
>>1399662

Legacy captchas do seem more stable for me. Still, with Libra good to go, that leaves the Buddy's pilot. Considering I'm next, I'll pass so others can have fun unless no one wants to.
>>
>>1399697

True, but I can't assume Libra wants to control his mech, he let me do it last time. I'm okay either way.

>>

>>
>>1400628

It's an unfortunate result. If that first one succeeded you'd have been fine, but one of those crits severs the shield and makes parrying the last attack impossible.

5K Torso (-1 SP, 3 remaining, -1K, 9 remaining. 1K Torso (-1 SP, 2 remaining). CRIT, cinematic table, flight system cuts out for 5 turns (-1 Torso SP, 1 remaining). CRIT, Buddy loses its shield. 5K head (-1 SP, 3 remaining, -1K, 3 remaining). CRIT, hits left arm weapon for 1K but because of the Beta Armor it actually does nothing. 5K left leg (-1 SP, 3 remaining, -1K, 5 remaining). 1K head (-1 SP, 2 remaining). 5K torso because no pod (-1 SP, 0 remaining, -4K, 5 remaining). 1K left leg (-1 SP, 2 remaining)

The Libra is something of a buzzsaw today, but...now the Dutchman can easily move into range and return fire against a more fragile mech with its +2 ranged weapons.

>>1400697
Well we're in a do or die moment so empty the clip and use luck sparingly. Leave enough in case we need to eject though.
>>
>>1400697

And keep in mind that the Libra does have an AM system.
>>
>>1400697
Probably better to use some luck while everything is still functional. Head has taken some damage, so another shot may sever it.
>>
>>1400701

So...empty the clip, add three luck, and for your second attack use the beam gun?
>>
>>1400708

>>
>>1400701
I'd say fire all missiles with as much luck as possible, leaving just enough to eject.

Even still, I know the Libra can still counter my missiles.

>>
>>1400764

A 26 is PRETTY serious. Libra has a 1d10+13, a 1d10+15, and then finally another 1d10+13 (dodge, phalanx gun, parry) to try and beat that, and he's got...I believe 5 luck remaining, so he can spend 1 if he wants to guarantee surviving the fight.
>>
>>1400774

And for this one, he has a 1d10+13 dodge and a 1d10+13 parry if that fails, versus 17.

Rolled 1 (1d2)

On a roll of 1, that headshot happened before the crit and the SP ablation is enough for that missile to destroy the sensors.

On a roll of 2, the sensor hit happened first and the Libra's armor is just enough to protect it.
>>
>>1400904
Got to be a leaf in the wind man.
>>
>>1400910
I do, I admit that. I guess since I never expected to be here in the first place, I actually want to get far now.

And it's tense as hell for me.
>>
>>1400920
I think it would destroy my head either way.
>>
>>1400920
I thought it doesn't matter though? It's two 5K attacks against a 3K head and 4 SP armor. The head's gone no matter what.
>>
>>1400920

Alright. The sensors are gone. The reason why it was relevant is 5K missiles versus sensors with 2 Kills of structure and 4 SP armor.

The Libra's head is at (-2 SP, 2 remaining, -1K, 2 remaining). Its main sensors are destroyed. Its torso was hit too (-1 SP, 3 remaining, -1K, 7 remaining.)

It's the Libra's turn. If you're attacking, specify 'nades or tracers.
>>
>>1400922
Hey I got one shotted in my first match and had no chance to show any skills here. You already did better than half the people here.
>>
>>1400930

Because the sensor attack doesn't technically DO Kills of damage to the head, just the sensors. I figure it ablates armor because it gets armor protection, but it doesn't actually affect the head itself, just the sensors.
>>
>>1400932
I have a 3k, 4 sp head. 2 5k missiles hit it, so I'd lose 1k in the first hit, and 2k in the second.
>>
>>1400932

Oh, and -1 Shield SP, 5 remaining.
>>
>>1400943

That's just it, though. You didn't actually take two headshots. You took one headshot, and then had your sensors cored so precisely it didn't affect the rest of the head's structure, although it doesn't matter much for our purposes.

Both mecha take off at once, the Buddy zipping over the outer layers of trenches to drop to ground in the innermost one, Walter weighing his options. He likes his fights fast and furious, but he's a pro, he knows to take it cautiously when he has to, “Howdy, Al.” He remarks laconically over the comms.

Alexander Grant is the same way, ducking into the middle trench, then hopping out with a flare of his jets and his mech's knife-like wings before dropping into the innermost trench, “Howdy, Walter.” He replies.

“Feeling hung over? You drank an awful lot last night.” Walter carefully marks his position and begins scooting around the edge towards him...but he underestimates the mercenary.

“In ancient mythology, the liver had significance as the organ that purifies toxins from the body, a purger of sins. There is no liver stronger than the liver of a just man.” The Libra zips out from behind the corner on foot, C.R.O.W.E. raised high and firing a barrage of grenades.

Walter raises his arm, but is just a second too slow to block, and explosions rock his mech despite the long-ranged attack. His mech's left leg armor is shredded, the torso is practically peeled open, the shield mount breaks with what would be a sad little -tink- if the combatants were in atmosphere. His thrusters cut out, and he activates his mech's foot electomagnets, thudding down into a crouch on the floor of the trench...but he manages to shield his weapons.

In her observation pod, Katherine, First Mate of Red Siren's pirates, cheers like a schoolgirl, clapping her hands together...and then blushing and covering her face as her subordinates start snickering, “S-shut up or y-you're all on Shetland bay duty.” She threatens with a red face.

Heavily damaged, he raises them both, stepping forward into range. “Grenades? You've upgraded that Pumpkinseed of yours since Uranus.” The Morgan II's head armor is scarred, giving it a mean look as he fires a sextet of missiles down the trench in response. Without even bothering to see if they hit, he raises the double-barreled beam gun in his other hand and lets loose with it, plasma and rockets filling the corridor. He can forgive Al for shooting out his thrusters, the man's just doing his job. Still, he won't hold back on him either, as he proves immediately.

Well, hitting the cockpit could have meant being disqualified. Either way, you did well, you put out some crazy stunts, took your lost with respect, and kept the Eurobeat alive. Plus, the Buddy is another easy custom with heavy strikers. We'll probably see plenty of Buddies in the future.
>>
The plasma, in accordance with the laws of physics, arrives first, and is blocked by the Libra's shield, which is scarred and knocked out of place by the sheer force of the blast. The blade-winged mech hits its thrusters and dances away from the oncoming missiles, but not quite well enough. One hits the Libra's forehead, tearing off its crest and ripping away its forehead, and the second missile strikes its exposed, glowing sensor core. The last remaining missile hits it dead-on in the chest, sparks racing through the Libra's superstructure as it struggles to remain standing. Either could have taken a single shot and ducked back behind their respective corner, but this is about more than just maneuvering. It's a battle between men who know and respect each other, a test to see whose mech is strongest.

Katherine gasps, one hand covering her mouth, and the other over her heart, eyes wide.

Blinded and relying on backup sensors, the Libra raises its gun again, the two gunslinging mecha facing each other like ancient American warriors performing the traditional pistol-duel at high noon their culture is so well-known for. All that are missing are the wide-brimmed hats. A chunk of the Buddy's torso armor rolls by like a tumbleweed. It's only a fraction of a second, but it looks dramatic when the footage is later slowed down, put to music, and uploaded to the holonet.

Tracer shells, glowing brilliant gold, streak through the air. The Buddy activates the powerful thrusters in its left calf and ducks right on reflex, avoiding one burst, but quick as a flash the Libra compensates and pegs the Buddy with the full second volley. For just a moment, he remembers the face of his father, handing him his gun on his deathbed.

>>1401082
Pretty much. Unfortunately, the scales tipped in the opposite direction...just like a certain character.

>>
Three shots hit, but it only took one. Explosions rock the Buddy's core as the shell lodges somewhere critical and the onboard AI managing power distribution goes hayware. Out of the flames, Walter Sato's cockpit pod rockets, and the Libra catches it before it can hit anything hard. Even blind, Alexander Grant is a true gunslinger.

“If I'd kept my thrusters...” Walter jokes.

“Yeah, I know, I'd have been screwed.” Alexander replies with a self-deprecating grin.

Walter starts laughing first, and after a moment, Alexander joins in. The former UJCIDF pilot eventually shakes his head, “Don't embarrass us, Grant. We're all counting on you. Me. Gareth. Even Bradley. Oh, and that girl of yours, too. Make it to the top.”

Alexander hears a bwoop from the PC in his zippered front pocket, momentarily mutes the comms as he gets it out, and uses a verbal password to unlock it. Someone whose number he doesn't recognize just sent him a video. Out of curiosity, he opens it. It's taken by someone standing safely at the back of a crowd of Red Siren's pirates on one of the observation pods, and clearly shows that dark-haired girl with the sad smile he's thought so much about doing what is unquestionably a cute yet undignified victory dance as she stares out the viewscreen at him. Judging her location with an awkward turn of the Libra's entire torso to bring the sensors to bear, he raises a hand and waves. Ostensibly to the crowd, but in reality, it's to her. He unmutes his comms, “I hear you, Walter. I've got something to fight for, so I'll make it there.”

“And that's the fight, ladies and gentlemen! The Libra advances to the next round!” Red Siren crows, the Archen kicking back in its giant throne.

Well, there are likely plenty of Morgan IIs about, along with any we may have found while punching rival crews. Hells, Knights can help there as well. Really, the ones that we'd naturally see less of are the ones with special systems or forms. Valks would do well with Deuces, but Blitz and the Sagister are pretty unique. Not many bird mechs of that size to steal, and the sheer size and different shape would mean making the Blitz mostly from scratch.

Gonna do an Akai, bear with me here.

"Not again..."

Those words ran through Walter Sato's mind as the Buddy's systems seized. Monitors crackling, sparks flying, and the dreadful sound of the onboard AI yelling "EJECT, EJECT".

He knew Alex was a good shot, but Walter bet on him missing due to the Libra's sensors getting blown up. The risk was calculated, but being an instinctual type of guy, he could never quite get the math right.

It would be the third time he had lost everything. As a street racer on Europa, he had raced on the nights against all comers until an unfortunate swerve on a hairpin turn that cost the other driver his life. The Sato family was disgraced that evening, and did all they can to push him into the UJCIDF.

The second time was Paley's World. He had lost hope again when the higher-ups decided to sink those cities into the sea. There were innocent people in the waves, helpless. He knew the woman he loved was one of them. But he could do nothing as he watched them sink into the waves or be chewed up.

And now, he would again lose. He had put everything into Buddy, the one thing he had. And it was going to go up in smoke and flames. For a moment, Walter hesitated to pull the ejection handle. For a moment, Walter closed his eyes and waited.

Morgan IIs are popular for a reason. They're just really good frames that work really well with a lot of different weapons and armor setups. Bahamutcorp was never able to squeeze them out with the Warmouth despite it also being a very popular design.

>>1401176

Plotwise, it's really tempting to do this and then have the winner fight the Libra, but there's that whole...that whole problem of it potentially being massively unfair to the Blitz when (not if) the Lightning enters melee range.

On the other hand, getting INTO that melee range could be a titanic struggle. The Lightning has no parry option versus a ranged weapon and the Blitz's cannon does tremendous damage.
>>
>>1401197

Sidenote, there's going to be a lot of mismatches later on, as the pool of "high-compatibility" fights shrinks. Eventually you WILL see what might end up as duels with the odds heavily favoring one candidate.

Whatever happens happens. I've already backed myself into a corner of fights that won't be very entertaining to watch, barring random lucky rolls, which I'm not going to count on.
>>
>>1401168
Armor itself isn't a issue. It's the size and shape. You not only have the heaviest class of armor, but specific tank armor. It's not a case of just sprucing it up like some of the easier mechs, but making armor of a size and scale not normally seen. You'd have to custom make and fit the armor, and the Blitz is about double the size of most mechs here. Spare sensor cores and thrusters would make it 'quicker' to produce, but it's not going to be as time cutting as the Buddy, Jager, Myrm or Lightning with enemy scrap.
All bets are off though if the enemy brings a feet of tanks though.
>>
>>1401197
>>1401210
Actually, it might not be that unfair. Both the Lighting and the Huskarl one shot all of each other's servos. The only reason they weren't trying to hit each other in the back is because they were having a duel.

But out of some corner of his mind, there was a voice.

Was it Alex? Gareth? Bradley? Was it even Izumi, somehow back from those waves?

It didn't matter at that moment. What mattered was that he heard those words.

"No, no, no. Don't give up!"

And in that moment, the sudden G-force pull of the pod ejecting woke Walter up back to sudden reality. A second later, he was staring at the Libra's shot-up head.

And then it him him.

"At least I managed to get a shot off." At least Walter fought despite his thoughts telling him it was over. And he did it. "I survived."

All it took was a great friend of his to literally knock some sense into him. There was still Alex. There was still Gareth and Bradley. There was still a chance that Izumi Ninomiya was somehow picked up from those waves of death and she was somewhere.

And there was the fact that Walter was still alive.

"I've lost, time and time again. But...just maybe, I've won."

"Yo, buddy, still alive?"

“If I'd kept my thrusters...”

“Yeah, I know, I'd have been screwed.”

And for the first time in ages, he laughed. "What a fool I was..." As long as he lived, there were still chances.

And the Buddy wasn't totally dead. As long as the cockpit and the plans were safe, he could always rebuild Buddy. Maybe take a visit to Y&H and ask for that drill gun Bradley had. Think about some indirect fire weapons.

The plans could be given to Admiral Roarke; Morgan-IIs are popular and loved. In a way, Buddy could live on forever. Walter was thinking ahead. He had an idea of sorts on what could Buddy look like when he could get the funds for it...

And thanks for bearing with this. Now, it's time to cheer on the sidelines for Libra and everyone else still in the game.

Also I prefer the VangNex, but I doubt I could fit that in 140 CP. GranVang's animations are funny, though.

You've been, I think, kind of unfairly singled out by people who just see your mech's high SP and Kill ratings and don't realize how buggered it would be by, say, a high BV weapon just...eating up your SP.

>>1401213

It's not that much of a problem, really, tank frames are easier to just make than mech frames, but there are less around to quickly repurpose into Blitzes. A bigger problem is that you have a specialized land-attack vehicle.

Consider for a moment that almost everyone else in the tournament can just...hop...these trenches. The Blitz can't. It has to crawl down one side, across the bottom, and up the other, taking 3 hexes of movement to traverse what's a single space to other mecha. Plus, no walking for that extra bit of movement.
>>

That...is a fascinating question I don't think the rules answer. Because logically, yeah, they should, but what tile do they get destroyed on?
>>
>>1401260
Interception by AMS seem to be based on missiles aiming for the person who has it since the range becomes personal. So if you indirectly aim it, it's good, since smoke missiles must have blast.
>>1401263
True. If the person hides in the trenches, then it can't hit them accurately as well unless going in those trenches. Which can open up it's back to a fly over and shot.

>MFW

I wonder how Lori came to like her... They both aren't exactly normal, but they seem to be pretty different people.

Hmmm... Maybe she felled for the Storm Dragon propaganda about themselfs... Oh well, she belives that the Lady has mythical powers, maybe honorabu ancient nipponic meme wizardry, waifu gods and philosophy of the home-dweller sages aren't too far from that.

the funny part is she lost interest in Clemmy because in her own words 'she tried to make something perfect from something that isn't.'. Considering how clemmy was a tightly wound beast on a short leash, that says a lot about both Fairchild and Cabot.

>>
>>1402186
Yep, can't say no to a free drink.

It's gonna be a wild ride with Bethany, Fairchild, and Roarke.

...Ever get the feeling this tourney might end with a bang?
>>
>>1402349
Feeling? I wouldn't put it past them. Cabot and Fairchild will try something. They have to if they want to keep control. Amos is getting good fast, support with the pirates is growing, and if the war ends before they can consolidate power, then they may very well lose their chance. The fact one of our main conditions is Cabot who Fairchild wouldn't want to give away will make it stick all the more. Especially when we have the Biggs files. Pretty sure human cloning is illegal, after all.
The important point is, do we have things waiting in the wings to ruin her day? Miles and Richard have their machines, Oda his, plus any upgrades or modifications to our other ace machines. A means to track radio signals for the possible cabot remote slayers would also help.
>>
>>1401474
Hey now, I didn't say bet all out credits
Just the appropriate amount allotted in our budgets for entertainment purposes
No need to pull an Al and end up in debt
>>
>>1402382
We also know that her slayer is remote controlled and to look for another mesh piloting it.
>>
>>1402408
Hence the radio tracker. Find out where the remote units get their orders from, and we may find her. That may be the key component in ending any situation with her fast.
>>
>>1402427
We should make sure to send our stealth units to get her mech. If she can see a y next coming for her control unit she'll run and we'll miss our chance.
>>
>>1402446
Thats a very good plan, and if you let me add, a distraction near the ship could be a good way of letting the stealth unit go past any who could detect it while they are occupied with whatever we have in store for them.

Or we could get someone inside their ship as a slepeer agent.

Because those catapult and bay doors aren't going to open on their own, and there is also the shield to worry about.

>>1402397

>>
>>1402446
Depends on where her control unit is. If she tries to flee while on Fairchild's ship, and all those enemy slayers fall silent, it's going to raise questions. If her machine is on a freshly gated ship, she can't gate away. In either case, her being unable to pilot multiple units is a good thing. Takes away a bunch of 18s from Fairchild's forces and shrinks her numbers.

“Next up, it's Wyatt Simms and the handsome Pharcyde versus the UJCIDF's own Sergeant Mako Nunez and her Pumpkinseed II Custom. Hey, darling, you've been pretty quiet, any comment?” The Archen nudges the Knuckle Kaiser.

The big black mech straightens up, and Roarke Starwind's voice echoes across the loudspeaker, “Ah, right, right. The Pumpkinseed II variant here is based on a UJCIDF ace's, the first one to shoot down a Paladin.”

“Do you think it's symbolic?” Red Siren inquires.

The Knuckle Kaiser shrugs, “It easily could be, it's also a very good modern mech. The Pharcyde, although it's much more advanced than the Bluegill it's initially based on, is in for a real fight.”

The Archen's heart-shaped faceplate stares, “That's a Bluegill? Darling, are you pulling my leg?”

“If we weren't in void I might pull your leg, but space is harsh.” The Knuckle Kaiser wraps one mech-crushing arm delicately around the Archen's shoulders, the smaller mech snuggling into it. Somewhere, Karen bites her autowrench with rage.

Speaking of rage, Wyatt is being hailed. He sighs, the Pharcyde standing with its arms crossed as it scopes out the battlefield. As the signal to begin is given, he and Mako both zoom forward, dipping into the middle layer of trenches, “Once more, my nemesis.” He remarks wearily, and accepts the hail.

“WYATT YOU LITTLE BRAT GET OUT OF THAT RUSTBUCKET RIGHT THIS FUCKING SECOND OR I FUCKING SWEAR I WILL FUCKING THRASH YOU WITHIN AN INCH OF YOUR LIFE DO YOU FUCKING THINK ROARKE STARWIND WILL PROTECT YOU FROM ME WELL THINK A-FUCKING-GAIN BECAUSE I AM COMING TO GET YOU AND NOTHING, NOTHING, IS GOING TO STOP ME!” She howls.

Wyatt shakes his head, “TYRANTS ALWAYS FEAR THE LOSS OF THEIR POWER. YOUR FURY IS A COLD WIND, BUT IT TOUCHES ONLY STONE.” His voice, modified by his onboard systems, booms deep and impressive.

“DON'T YOU USE THAT VOICE MODULATOR ON ME YOU LITTLE SHIT! YOU WANT TO TALK LIKE A GROWN-UP? THEN GET THRASHED LIKE A GROWN-UP!” She snarls, then coughs, her voice cracking a little as her mech vaults out of the trench and leaps into the innermost layer, “Damn it, I swear I'll...”

“WHY DO YOU TAKE THIS SO PERSONALLY, SERGEANT? I AM NOT YOUR SON. INDEED, WITH THE DIFFERENCES IN OUR AGES, YOU COULD BE AN OLDER SISTER AT BEST. MY LIBERTY FREES YOU TO LIVE THE LIFE A YOUNG AND TALENTED WOMAN SHOULD LEAD. YET YOU PERSIST IN FORGING THE CHAINS BY WHICH YOU BIND YOURSELF.” The Pharcyde follows suit.

>>1402974
Removes the active bit to the pumpkinseed's shield for the round so you can fire missiles or use that ball and chain to smash a limb.
>>
>>1402984
The dropkick will take both actions to reach, at the cost of hitting the shield for 9K damage (4K plus 10MA moved= additional 5k damage). Very risky, because there is a strong possibility of getting chunked after all is said and done.
>>
Hm, it looks like if you spent enough booster you could, PERHAPS, get there in one action...could someone check my math just to confirm?
>>
>>1403012
Either 6 or 7 boost, depending on if he moves 5 or 6 hexes in his first action.
>>
>>1403012
yeah he can reach it in one action conservative estimate is 5 MA+ 7 Boost
>>
>>1403012
Yeah, now that I've counted I'm sure he can.

2 MA up, 7 MA moving from 2409 to 1713, 1 MA to 1612, 1 MA up, 1 MA to 1512, Dropkick.

Wait, no, he'll have to turn at least once, won't he?
>>
>>1403044
If you've been using all your move and free move to get where you are, you would have been at 12 MA, yes? That means you could go past 12 and still reach. Remember, you still have 2 free MA via walking.
>>
>>1403044
its still below 15 total MA. He can make it
>>
>>1403054
I thought free MA didn't count towards the 12 MA cap?

then with that free walking, you would have enough MA even if thats not the case. 2 from walking, 12 from booster assisted flight. Either way, its in reach.

Dunno how I feel about this. Far cry from actually managing to blow the Gyan's shield off in Federation vs Zeon.
>>

Use it all. Cockpit is -4 to the roll, but your 5 is enough to at least have you only be moderately hurt at best.

I knew the risks I was taking when I attempted that dropkick, not even mad. Pretty crazy (if one-sided) fight, I'll admit I'm surprised I made it to the second round.

It's guaranteed you get out unscathed then. You need 4 to guarantee surviving if your cockpit is hit.

He wasn't hit in the cockpit though, just his Torso.
>>
>>1403339
you would have survived the hit if the megacrit didn't negate all of your armor.

>>
>>1403333
Well, that was a good fight. Was waiting to see if you would booster. If it did carry all the missiles, that would be 30 missiles. Would have called Mako Wideshot if she missed.
>>

No, it's a 6K EMW, even if it wasn't a megacrit that would have been all sht wrote.

Walter probably should have taken a Pumpkinseed.

They're more efficient weapons that AP Melee Weapons up to 7 SP armor, equal at 8 and 9 SP, and worse at 10 SP+.

Maybe they're jobber weapons, but they're better than the not-jobber weapons 7/13 times.

Most people using EMW's in this quest have lost. Katherine, Grandma Sune, Clemmy, Fuckface (Beth), lil. Saber, Lori, Rashad, etc. Hell Amos is the patron saint of the Pumpkinseed II and he barely fought Van Dam to a draw with one.

The thing I have in mind is...

Actually, I'd rather keep most of it secret.

But, I just need to know how a two-pilot mech would work out in this system.
>>
“None of your Jove-damned business!” She spits, harshly.

Wyatt blinks, that's not what he was expecting, “SERGEANT, WHAT DO YOU MEAN? IT LITERALLY CONCERNS ME AS WELL AS FIGURATIVELY. I HAVE YOU CHASING ME ALL OVER THE SYSTEM, AND YOU WON'T EVEN TELL ME WHY IT MATTERS SO MUCH.”

The Pumpkinseed II with the shark insignia on its shoulder leaps out of the trench and lands in a crouch on the hill, “Because your grandpa-”

“BESIDES THE DEAL WITH HIM! DAMN IT, ANSWER ME!” The Pharcyde activates its booster pack, the heavily modified Bluegill rocketing out of the trench towards the Pumpkinseed II like a shooting star, one leg extended. For once, he's lost his cool.

“Tsch.” The Pumpkinseed sidesteps the predictable kick, and ducks beneath the swinging flail, the pilot still talking, “No, you're right. Telling you that General Robert Simms was a hero, that doesn't matter. Or that he saved my dad's life, once, that doesn't matter either. Hell, him being my mentor and making sure I HAD a career despite my juvie record? No big deal. Here's the truth, you little punk.” She catches the Pharcyde's arm, “I gave my word. I may not have much of a heart, or much of a liver, I may be about as bad of a parent as it's possible to be...but at least I've still got that. Do you want to know what General Fairchild made me do, to ensure you stayed ALIVE? Because I remember it vividly. You don't forget things like that. They're not fun, no matter what the holonet tells you.”

“YOU MEAN SHE-” Wyatt's voice is horrified.

“Yeah. Why do you think she didn't just destroy that pissant little transport ship instead of trying to take prisoners? You know what she's capable of, you think the lives of the crew mattered to her? Fuck no. You're alive because I got down on my KNEES and did more than just beg for your life. I bought it with my body, and for that to have any meaning...I've got to make sure you survive.” Mako's voice is as bitter as cold coffee.

There's a hiss of metal and warning lights shriek throughout the Pharcyde's cabin as the Pumpkinseed II ignites its vividly magenta beam rapier, and drives it carefully into the chest of the black-and-blue mech. Wyatt curses, not sure who he's blaming. Her, Fairchild, or himself. Tears in his eyes, he hits eject. The Pumpkinseed II catches his cockpit ball.

“The winner is-” Red Siren does her thing, neither of them are listening.

“I'm so sorry, kid. You really are talented, a real prodigy, and one of these days you'll be an ace. I just want to see it happen for myself.” Mako smiles bitterly behind the visor of her suit's helmet, “But I can't do that if the pink-haired bitch has us both murdered by that psychopath standing in her shadow. All I have to do is win. If I keep winning, if I win this whole thing and take the top prize, it will prove unquestionably that the UJCIDF's designs are the strongest in the belt, that the military might and ingenuity of Starwind's pilots can't measure up to the SSL military no matter how strong the Black Ogre itself is. That victory will mean a lot, especially to General Fairchild, it will solidify her power and then...then you and I can go wherever we want. So long as we stay out of her way, we'll be free.”

“We can even get out of the system entirely, go to Qu'lir and join in the rebuilding efforts, or Paley's World.” Sergeant Nunez's voice is hopeful, “Damn it, kid, you can hate me all you want, but...this is our shot. Our one chance.”

Wyatt sighs, and turns off the voice modulator, “Mako...” It's the voice of a young teenager. Habitually sarcastic and cynical, but subdued. “I'm sorry, but I've made up my mind. I'm gonna be an Iron Kestrel, whether you win or lose.”

“Then she's going to kill you. And me, because I won't let her have you without a fight.” Mako, for once in her life, starts to sniffle.

“No, she won't. You have to believe in freedom, mom. If we want it, we'll have to stand and fight for it at some point. Maybe it's not today. Maybe it's when you lose to one of my disciples. Maybe it's when you finally win, and Boss Starwind asks you to join him...but nobody runs forever. You proved that to me, just now.” Wyatt replies gently.

“Your disciples? Why do you have disciples?” Mako pauses, “Did you just call me...?”

“You did sign the adoption papers, it's a formal title and I'm using it out of curiosity. Maybe you're not so bad at it after all.” Wyatt pauses, “Yes, I have Jovedamned disciples, who do you think I am? Al and Jim are ass-kickers, and they'll be waiting for you down the line.”

“Listen, you little brat! Nobody's going to beat me, and I mean NOBODY!” Mako grumbles, the two of them arguing cheerfully all the way back to the mechbay.

“...Well, that was heartwarming.” Hermione Fairchild grins, turning off the device she was using to listen in on Mako's conversation. A one-way transponder in the Pumpkinseed II's cockpit, just a small modification she made to the comms system, easily missed.

“Do you think she really believes she's going to be free?” Major Cabot asks, cradling the General in her arms.

“She wants to believe, and that's what matters. When people are without hope, they're the easiest to direct. No, even if she doesn't want to believe, she'll do what I said because she's already invested so much in it. She'll fight until she drops, or gets dropped, thinking if she just stalls long enough she'll find a way out” Fairchild smiles. It's a cruel smile, “They call it the sunk-cost fallacy. The more she sacrifices, the more she has to believe her goal is worthwhile. That's just how humans work.”

“I want to kill her.” Cabot announces, pouting. The observation pods have air and pressure, so her black bodysuit is still open in front.

The General's eyes follow the line of pale flesh down the center of her body, her mouth going dry. She earnestly can't decide whether she prefers Cabot in her fighting attire or secretary uniform. Nonetheless, she sighs, “Are we getting jealous, Bethany? It was just for fun, she didn't mean anything to me, the real satisfaction was seeing the hatred in her eyes as she degraded herself for my pleasure. Knowing that I was breaking someone who cared about that relic of the old order. It satisfies me, knowing that I'm sweeping away something old, withered, and inefficient to create something new, and punishing those who cling to the night out of fear of the new day.”

“Maybe I want to kill her because she hates you?” Cabot replies, still pouting.

The General smiles, and kisses her, “Alright, but just to prove I care.”

“You don't have to-” Cabot starts, frowning, but the General puts a finger to her lip.

“Yes, I do. Call it evolution. I've found someone who won't leave me, doesn't play with my heart, who's given and given even when I've been stupid and oblivious and...and damn it, Major, I like to see you smile.” The General caresses the taller woman's cheek, “Get rid of the boy, too. I want you to have fun.”

“Mmmh.” Cabot sighs, “There's a small problem. We are on Auditorium. Red Siren's Auditorium. Red Siren, who is...” She searches for a word less complimentary than 'in love.'

“Infatuated with Starwind.” Fairchild grits her teeth, “Even if he was satisfied with only her he'd be trouble enough. For example, the fact that he is cracking his knuckles fantasizing about beating you to death.”

Cabot shakes her head, “I'll have to be careful. We may need to wait.”

Fairchild shrugs, “You surviving is more important than those two, consider finding a way to get rid of them to be a...pleasant diversion rather than a formal mission.”

“Has anyone ever told you how sweet you are?” Cabot asks with a grin.

The General grins back, “No, why don't you tell me?” The two women share a laugh, and get to scheming.

I'm all for this. There's something really juvenile about elaborate violent revenge fantasies. I just feel like the best course is to just straight up kill them outright as efficiently as possible, because the important thing is removing them as a threat to ourself and others. Deriving pleasure from slowly grinding away people's lives and hope is her schtick, and we're better than that and we're better than her.

The only thing I can think of that would be fitting instead of gratuitous is if first her misdeeds were revealed past the extent her connections could cover and she was exposed for what she was (and preferably booted from the UJCIDF as well). That seems more appropriate than some circus show of embarrassing her.
>>
>>1404106
Previous unresolved fights/showdowns with Cabot have been on foot, so I think the final battle with her should be outside of a mech. Maybe have Roarke and Cabot disable each other's mechs, before having to climb out and finish the duel.
>>
>>1404135
That's what I think is going to happen when we fight Belegor.
>>
Cabot should die by being beaten to death by Roarke.

Fairchild has to kill herself after all her corrupt actions are revealed to the Galaxy and she's court martialed.
>>
>>1404146
Rourke should penetrate Cabot.
>>
>>1403731
>You're alive because I got down on my KNEES and did more than just beg for your life. I bought it with my body

... Dammit boner.
>>
>>1404135
I completely agree with this.

As for Fairchild, I think we should tag-team her with Clemmy after Clemmy realizes that she's been discarded.
>>
>>1404135
>Fight the cheating bitch on foot when she used a poisoned dagger on our bro when personel combat is lethal as hell.
How about no. I'd rather crush her cockpit in our hand and deny her any sort of fitting or dramatic end. Her death should be unglorious as possible for she deserves no glory at all. Maybe not even mention her real name and keep official records of her being the Green Skull's first mate.
Fairchild will be different though. Thinking about it, a complete mental shutdown that would make Kamille early ZZ Gundam look lively wouldn't be a bad option. Completely exiled and broken, her legacy lost and the weight of the fact that those she would strive for would hold her in disdain.
>>
>>1404238
Dramatic irony. It would complete the circle if we beat her in CQC. It'd be extra delicious if she went about it in the same manner as previous engagements or tried to cheat like she did with our bro.
>>
>>1404249
I could care less about dramatic irony when dealing with those two if it gets in the way of ending them. When the time comes and she is a viable target, it will likely occur in a mech in a middle of a battle. You want us to get damaged to the point where we must leave the Kaiser, fight her hand to hand where she does have a good chance to kill us and would likely take it, while our friends fight without us. Not only that, but I wouldn't be surprised if Fairchild comes out screaming in that overly pompous machine she has, aiming for our friends and loved ones just to get more petty kills on us. Which we would not be able to stop because hey, our mech is damaged to make the climatic fight with a particullarly bitchy mid boss possible.

While we did smile at her in person, we should end her as the First Mate, not as Cabot. No giving her advantages, no being dramatic. Let it all loose and reduce the machine that has made the Belt hell to nothing but scrap and FINALLY get to tear that cockpit to shreds/crush it/ bite it with the Kaiser's movable face like a apple after the last two times had us only finding those remote cockpits.
>>
Do not do anything that might make Cabot into a martyr. Just end her quickly, and be done with it.
>>
>>1404283
Not everyone you kill will become a martyr especially a black ops for the Jovians. Its a shitty argument because if we kill anyone they could become a martyr.
>>
>>1404286
I was talking about the people wanting to make her death a grand, dramatic spectacle.

Just crush the cockpit and toss the remains aside.
>>
>>1404238
Honestly I'm pretty sure Fairchild is just broken period already. Like from the beginning with her shit Mom, and being an experimental research subject for a dude who got rid of her first love.

If we really want to twist the knife we should find that chick and bone her.
>>
>>1404307
That chick is our mom who's dead. But yes, she is damaged, but at the same time, does it matter? Roarke himself is pretty damaged. Hell, aside from maybe Fatima, all his wives have some damage to them. The issue here is that she simply cannot get over it. She joked about it, but Fairchild herself is one who has the highest sunk cost of anyone.
>>
>>1404035

You can always squeeze the cockpit ball slowly instead of just crunching it.

As previously mentioned, and as should be obvious, the pods are pressurized and full of breathable air, which carries the sounds of the conversation as vibrations. The room has been thoroughly swept for bugs of all existing varieties...but a thin coating on the inside of the viewscreen thrums imperceptibly with the words, transmitting them as an electrical signal to a small patch on the outside of the viewpod, an unobtrusive square of metal slightly raised from the surrounding surface...which then transmits them to the person who installed the device in the first place. It's camouflaged within the systems conveying the voices of the announcers to those within the pod.

Karen, sitting with a mug of cocoa in the mechbay, sighs happily and terminates the connection on HER end. As if anyone was going to bug a mech she inspected for cheating and get away with it. It was brilliantly hidden, yes, but not brilliantly enough. After that time Fairchild put a tracking beacon on the S-Flowerhorn, the mechanic girl has been a lot more alert to that sort of shenanigans.

She saves the file, whistling, and then gets out her PC, inputting a string of numbers, “Hello? Oh, hi Regina! It's me, Samantha's friend...uh-huh...aww, I'm sorry, I didn't know you and Moe were taking a walk together. I promise, I wouldn't have bothered you unless it was very important. Um, one UJCIDF officer talking about deliberately killing off another one, that's against the law, right? D-don't laugh at me! I'm a pirate, not a lawyer!” She huffs, “Fine, I'll send you the file! Just put it to good use, okay!” She terminates the call, sends the file, and then stretches out in her chair with a satisfied, catlike grin, “Good things come to those who wait. Roarke is definitely going to give me some attention now.” She rubs her hands together greedily.

Meanwhile, in the observation pod being used by the Avalonians, Duke Eustace de Rothschild-Beauchamps is also terminating a call, a huge grin on his face as he sweeps into the room where Caesar Merrow, in his guise as Sir Gaius Wesker, and Countess Tabitha Roosevelt are waiting. Behind him is another knight in the red and black of Countess Roosevelt's employ.

The Countess' eyes light up when she sees him, “Sir Letholdus!”

He drops to one knee, “My lady, I have failed you. I could not protect the others, Dame Gray was lost, and I failed to defeat your cousin's champion in the tourney.”

“It's alright, Magnarus. Please rise and join us, I know you fought valiantly.” She smiles, and gestures for him to sit. “We're returning to the ship shortly and...and...Your Grace, please stop grinning like that, it's disconcerting. If you have something to tell us, just please do it.”

The Duke sighs heavily, “Do you see what I put up with, Sir Gaius? I come all the way to the Solar System on a noble quest and who do I get sent with? Two Countesses trained by Duchess Carnegie with no sense of grandeur at all. I was going to make this announcement in front of all of our people.” He crosses his arms and shakes his head.

The Countess shrugs and returns to her book, “Fine, don't tell us. We'll wait.”

“But now I can't! You've already spoiled the fact that there is an announcement, and it's thrown me off entirely.” He puffs one cheek out, acting his apparent age rather than his real age for once.

“Then tell us.” The Countess' eye twitches slightly.

The Duke grins, “Alright, so...during the last few fights, I've been engaged in some private negotiations with the Pirate King. Not face-to-face, alas, and he refuses to discuss Countess Kennedy, but...he has the dread knight Sir Rudolph Merrow's unhallowed strider, which he calls 'Swordfish'. Moreover, he has expressed a potential willingness to sell it to us.”

That could be the case.

On the other hand, getting the Swordfish can be so much of a haul for him as a symbol of prestige, he may just not care why long enough for us to do something.

Then again, the Avalonians like daring. They could just play along and enjoy the ride.
>>
>>1405829

>>

>>1405988
Yep. Especially if they're an infamous pirate. Always be wary of pirates. And Greeks.
>>
>>1405873

Not necessarily. Up until now, mech parts themselves have been a premium concern, but the value of the King Swordfish lies in its history, if he can squeeze enough credits from the Duke, he could potentially buy or make multiple mecha in the same weight class.
>>
>>1406001
But he would lose the ability to use it as a moral weapon and give it to Avalon which makes him look worse to Solars.
>>
>>1406003
You can just roll to seduce on camera again, our PR will be fine.
>>
>>1406003
Could just say it was part of the auction and they paid the instant buy price. Fairchild should have paid more attention to what was up for bid. Sides, if Caesar does his job, we get the Swordfish back AND some other stuff.
>>
>>1406001
Give someone enough motivation, and they'll dance. For someone as honor-bound as the Duke, the history of the Swordfish is a big pull. Sure, he most likely does have an idea of what's happening, but he either won't care or think he's got in in the bag and go with it.

Plus we can spin it as brave Solarians infiltrate an Avalonian ship in a daring rescue.

“What?” The Countess perks up, glancing at her knights, you included, before gazing shifty-eyed at the Duke, “...How much will it cost?”

He crosses his arms, “I'm not telling you that. No matter what I say, you'll insist it's too much.”

Her eyes narrow, “He robbed you, didn't he?”

“It's a classic, antique frame he had refurbished! He's only selling it because I'm willing to pay handsomely! Honestly, Tabitha, I can easily afford it and just think of the morale benefits when the gas knights see Merrow's own strider painted in our colors and ridden by one of our knights!” He huffs.

She tsks loudly, tossing her twintails, “Not interested. I suppose it would make for a decent Paladin frame.”

“Maybe, for now...it could at least serve as a Cavalier.” The Duke sighs, “Honestly, I don't like the idea of making the Lady remember this thing. It's an evil-looking strider. I suppose, maybe, eventually...”

You and Magnarus exchange looks. “Nice armor.” He remarks. “Sir Magnarus Letholdus, are you new?”

You nod, “Likewise. Sir Gaius Wesker.” You bow to each other, you following his lead as your bosses bicker.

“Sir Gaius, Sir Magnarus, what do you think? Please, speak freely.” The Countess has an air of being generous rather than just wanting to gang up on the Duke.

“It'd be rather jolly to smash the gas knights with their own showpiece, I'd say!” Magnarus comments boisterously.

You nod, doing your best to keep your cool behind your helmet, “It could be a useful asset.”

She sighs, “Even you two are taking his side? Fine. Who's piloting it?”

The Duke scratches the back of his head, “Ah, one of our knights, maybe? I was considering one of the Van Dammes, but...your Sir Gaius already defeated one of the obvious choices, so...”

“You're right.” She frowns, “Wait a minute, you're not seriously thinking...”

“We have to display a little trust to get trust. Tell me, Sir Gaius...what are your thoughts on being, at least, the test pilot for our newest strider?”

It has been 4 months of fights between the two of us, and we're in that state when we kinda really like each other, but are too wounded with all the salt throwing that we just can't help it and fight everytime for the most smaller things possible...

You know... the problem is more that she did a lot of bad stuff recently, and now being with her is like having a psycopath sleeping in my coach... But I just love her too much and can't abandon her... But we're not even in a romantic relationship or whatever...

I know... But it gets me wondering "Do I really want to keep going with this when this person is probably just continue to do shit anyway? Do I want to watch how far she will go before she sees what that is doing to her?" and "Won't I being here with her will just give her fuel to go on?" or even "... She is probably going to drag me into one of her schemes, won't she?".

It would be more easier if she was just evil... but for the most part she is just naive and spoiled... Its very hard to see such a sweet and inteligent girl being on high levels of austim with her relationships to the point of slowy losing everyone around her... She reminds me of a child, you know? And I feel like its my responsability to watch over her to avoid having her being much worse... But she just doesn't hears me out... I don't know if my efforts matters...

I seriously fears that she does something irreversible if I just walk always for too long... How the hell did this come this far?

I'm just being objective here, since we aren't in my natural element of a bar with a couple of ales in front of us but...I get that you love her, and maybe she returns it. But, I'm gonna say something to ya, may seem a little harsh. Sometimes you need to take care of you, before anyone else. There's nothing wrong with a bit of selfishness. Just a bit would do you some good. Being the selfless person, while morally terrific...gets nothing done. For you, or for her apparently. I was the adult in a toxic relationship once. Once. Hey, Wong. I've got a question about weapon mating.

Are we only allowed to weapon mate two weapons, or can we mate as many as we want by mating a third weapon to an already mated weapon?
>>
>>1406711
That is an interesting question.

If we're going RAW on the ATM, it says only two things can be mated, so...I dunno.
>>
>>1406722
Raw only states that you can mate two weapons, it doesn't say anything about mating something TO the already mated weapon.

I mean I can understand why it wouldn't be allowed, since it would makes a weapon extremely heavy and/or expensive. But my inner munchkin is curious all the same.
>>
>>1406752
Well, since the mated weapon could count as one weapon, I guess it could.

I'm also curious, since my brother is trying to find ways to break the game, mech construction-wise.
>>
>>1406756
And I have another question: what would be the benefits of having a mech that has two pilots?
>>
>>1406820
you get three actions at a -2 penalty.
>>
>>1406839
I'm guessing that -2 also stacks with the mecha reflex value?

IE: If I had a mech that was -3, then the total would be -5

And is that for all 3 actions or the 3rd action only?
>>
>>1406844
It's on page 49 of the ATM if you want to look them up yourself.
>>
>>1406862
Ah, looking them up right now.

Wow, it's really unclear if the MR penalty stacks with innate mech MR or replaces it entirely.

Well, even without the extra actions, you can basically have two characters than can specialize in some stats.

Well since I've mentioned it more times than I would have liked to, I'll post the Dragonslayer Armor now that I've finally gotten around to making it.
https://pastebin.com/sRwXkv3C

I'm iffy on the 10 MA and booster. I couldn't decide whether to keep it thematic with a comparatively slow 8 MA aided by bursts of speed from the booster, or have it fit better in the Wongverse since a melee only Chevalier wouldn't be too stingy to pay an extra 4 CP on thrusters when their mech is already this expensive and reliant on getting close.

And shock is, as always, for dirty scum and Sam. But the armour loves electrocuting people as it smashes them into paste.
>>
>>1406906
>implying shock isnt the weapon of choice for distinguished gentlemen
>>
I was thinking king about a houserule where weight reduction and other modifiers arr applied to individual parts of a mech or a mech's weapons separately from the rest of the mech.

For example, instead of applying the Multiplier for a Reflex System to the mech's guns alongside the mech, you just apply it to the mech.

It would depend on context really. Stealth systems would be applied to the entire mech, but a targeting Multiplier would be applied to each weapon that gains the bonus and the mech itself.

Thoughts?

You can add a shock drone to a mech for the low price of 17.4 CP. Sometimes I regret not going full shock.

Another way to do a scorpion mech, though Its both more expensive and I suspect less effective. Totally forgot attack factor weapons were a thing.
>>
>>1406756
>my brother is trying to find ways to break the game, mech construction-wise.
Here's a fun one: if you take a pair of 1 turn in use rechargeable beam shields and alternate between them, the result will always be cheaper and take less space than a single normal shield, even factoring in added weight efficiency.
>>
>>1406905
It seems to me that the penalty is an addition to normal MR. It wouldn't make much sense if a big fat mech suddenly became hyper agile just because it had two pilots. You don't actually have to take the penalty anyway, I think you can have two pilots but settle for normal actions and just split skills.

At 2 pilots, that mechanic is a trade off of -2MV for 1 action, but any higher numbers of pilots and you can afford to have one be a dedicated leader to offset the penalty.

>>1406953
This seems a little contradictory, considering the entire purpose of weight efficiency being applied to the whole mech is to prevent it contributing to the cost of multipliers. Besides, are there even all that many cost multipliers for specific parts? Most of them are mech wide
>>
>>1407513
That's what I'm assuming is the case, but again instructions are somewhat unclear on that.

Still, in this tournament, there wouldn't be much use for a two-seater. Would probably be a good plan for a trainer, though.
>>
>>1407994
MV is a stat that can be buffed up or down, same as anything else. Additional weight, pilots or external equipment (booster packs, command armour and such) decreases it, while things like thought control or supercharged engines increase it. It's just usually a negative value.
>>
>>1408010
Ah.

Still, should try and make a decent two-seater mech that is around 140 CP.

And here is the Dutchman vs Chimera picture for next time. Thank goodness for Gundam VS Full Boost, it made this one easier.
>>
>>1408375
I think you might have your work cut out for you because of how the system works. -2MV is a pretty hefty penalty that you'd need a not inconsiderable amount of verniers to overcome. Mechanically it's more effective to do it tank crew style: minimum 3 crew, with one commander to offset the penalty. That way the unit has 2 extra actions at now penalty (as long as the commander isn't useless anyway).
>>
>>1408691
Hmm, you could just have an Internal Automation system with 2 pilots so that the IA is the one rolling Leadership while the 2 pilots are free to do anything else.

It won't be 140 CP, but it can be a SOUL unit...

Suddenly >>1403818 comes to mind...
>>
>>1408778
Hmm, an IA with Automation Level 6 and Portfolio 1 is a .24 Multiplier.

Two pilots would be an Extra 2 CP and set the Command check difficulty to 12, allowing the IA to automatically pass it every time.

So, 2 pilots, one specced in Melee the other specced in Range?
>>
>>1408834
>>1408778
Would that really be better than just getting a third guy to boss people around? Its pretty expensive.
>>
>>1408839
Difference here is that you can't mass produce a guy who will always pass a DC 12/13 Command Check.

For Tourney purposes though, he'd be rolling at +16.

Hell, it would only cost 4 CP for a Crew of 3. You could stick Three people into any Mech in the tourney if you altered their loadouts slightly.
>>
>>1408872
If you wanted to be really cheasy you could just mass produce human scale mechs with IA. Probably cost like 8 CP or something.
>>
>>1408839
Depends on the cost limit of your mech the GM sets. If it 's fairly low, then a 3rd person is the way to go since it's much cheaper to buy a new seat.

But if the cost is higher, it'd be better to take the IA since the investment into 3 people would take longer than 2.

For this tourney, it's much better to stick to 3 people, but for other things, it's not an option to ignore.

Also to match the same amount of CP the Black Ogre has currently with 2 pilots and IA +6 / Portfolio 1, you would need to build a mech that's around 298 CP.
>>
>>1408889
I wonder if you wanted multiple attacks would a bunch of EMS with attack factor be the way to go.
>>
>>1408889
Actually, that should be 294, since you have to pay 4 CP for installing 2 pilots in the first place.

Still, that's a good amount of points to mess with.
>>
>>1408913
EMWs I mean. Get something like the O going.
>>
>>1408919
I'm reading it, and it won't attack more than once if I'm reading it right.

What it does it auto attacks anyone getting close to it, and attack multiple targets up to its attack factor.
>>
>>1408913
Attack factors are more for intercepting enemies who try and come in close than more attacks. An attack factor of one means one person who gets close gets stabbed. 2 for 2 and so on. Turns you into a blender.
>>
>>1408932
>>1408934
Yeah but what if you had 4 quick weapons with attack factor 1?
>>
>>1408932
>>1408934
Attack factors can be purchased to auto attack up to 5 targets per turn if they've just moved into melee range, though they will never attack the same target more than once. They can also be used as regular melee weapons spending actions to attack as normal. Note that they attack for free, not hit, so you do still have to roll for it.

>>1408954
It would be more expensive than just having attack factor 3, but would hit twice?
>>
>>1408954
Well, it doesn't say that you can't stack both of them together.

Again, it's supposed to only activate when people come to you. But you can make the argument that since they're close, why wouldn't it work?
>>
>>1408934
It also makes for bitchin' beam shields, since they can potentially auto-parry up to 5 attacks a turn and top out at 20SP instead of 15 like all other kinds of shield.

>>1408972
You don't have to, rules state you can still spend an action to attack with them same as normal.
>>
>>1408967
I mean if you had multiple individual weapons with attack factor 1 wouldnt you get multiple attacks?
>>
>>1408984
Yes. Just one apiece though (unless, presumably, they were quick).
>>
>>1408984
If they aren't linked, no you do not get to use them all at once. You'd also have to link them all together which gets pretty costly. Either way, while a ton of blades might sound good, your costs are going to be heavy. Rashad's mech is a good example of that.
>>
>>1409037
You couldn't manually use them all at once without links, but presumably they would each still take their automatic shots separately.
>>
>>1409037
But why would you need to link them if they all have attack factor? As long as you dont manually attack with them they should still go off right?
>>
>>1409048
>>1409053
For the same reason why Active shields don't double block when you have two of them, or one taking the turn after the other. They simply don't without the links. You wouldn't get 4 rolls, you'd have 1.
>>
>>1409089
But thats because active shields only block the first attack. You cant block the same attack twice.
>>
>>1409089
The reason for that though is that the reactive shield entry states you can't parry a single attack with more than one of the same type of shield except for reactive. Nothing similar is said about attack factor (and it would be strange if they didn't each get an attack, multiple active shields wouldn't make sense anyway because they succeed automatically ONCE (or however many times a beam active shield has), there's no need to parry the same attack again if you've already done it.

Thinking back to the triple mated weapon idea, it occurs to me that Energy Pools would be a more efficient method of making a triple-purpose weapon.

...But I still really like the idea of duct-taping three weapons into one. Energy Pools always seemed to me to be really high-end technology, so a dude bolting three things into one is a perfect low-tech alternative, albeit more expensive and heavy.

Technically, it's just being powered by thrusters everywhere fueled with salt, so it's more of a brick that flies. But I guess it's a hovertank now.

Also, 3 people would still have your problem of two actions. But 4 would have been interesting.

>1st action would be Leadership action, roll that to not get penalty
>Blitz now has 3 actions to mess with:

-Spend all 3 to shoot with either no penalty or a max of -4 added for desperation purposes if Leadership roll fails (which it probably won't)
-Spend 2 actions to attack, move 1
-If all else fails, spend 2 actions to move full MA, then cover ass with, say, smoke or something.

I was faffing about with Beam Sniper Weapons and came up with a few ideas.

First, here's the Iskander Rifle.

>-"IEW-14" Beam Sniper Rifle: Range 64(8), WA 0 (Long-Range), 8K, Infinite Ammo, 29 CP (21+8), 5 Spaces, 4 tons (Space Efficiency: 16)

It's got consistent Accuracy and Good Damage. Its major weakness is that it sacrifices range for damage.

A secondary Beam Sniper weapon would be:

>-"IEW-15" Beam Sniper Rifle: Range 100(10), WA 0 (Long-Range), 6K, Infinite Ammo, 24.5 CP (18+6.5), 5 Spaces, 3 tons (Space Efficiency: 13)

Decent Damage, Excellent Range, Consistent Accuracy.

It's also more affordable and I can easily see it being used as a standard weapon.

However, then I decided to approach the concept from a different angle. The biggest issue with Sniping is that there's a massive penalty for firing outside a weapon's effective range.

>-"IEW-16" Beam Marksman Rifle: Range 100(10), WA 3, 6K, Infinite Ammo, 24.5 CP (18+6.5), 5 Spaces, 3 tons (Space Efficiency: 13)

Inside the gun's effective range, it's extremely accurate. Outside that range, it only suffers from a small penalty.

Thoughts?
>>
>>1409476
Thing is in this quest the Megas project was a mech far more larger than the Megas XLR we know and the Megas in this quest had a fleet of drones that were also under the pilots control, the load was exponential the Megas in this quest also was to be considered a planet buster weapon so I don't think a mechanic who retrofitted a mech that probably wouldn't even last a second against the kaiser would be able to take the load that pushed talented pilots to the very limits and beyond to their mental capacity where they had to make clones of green men to pilot it instead.

>>1409590
First, holy shit, parse your sentences.

Second, If you had a normal Pilot control part of the Mech, say, an Arm, and had multiple pilots control each other part of the mech, it would definitely be more viable than having one normal person attempt to control the entire thing. Hence, a crew.

I kinda feel the same way, especially after starting to make grunt units of the 140 CP unts while being under 100 CP.

It's amazing what a difference 40-50 CP makes.

Also, coming up with another thing to think about. So, my youngest brother is a fan of Strike Gundam, and I'm thinking about setting up the packs for his mech. The Sword Pack and the Launcher Pack are fairly straightforward, but I'm having some difficulties with the Aile Pack.

For me, it's either put a pod servo, attach wings to it, and put the beam sabers and more thrusters there. Or I could just attach the damn wings.

What do you guys think?
>>
>>1420508
Wings, thrusters on the wings, and a relatively cheap booster depending on how much cp you have left should work.
>>
>>1420146
Not exactly for me. I've been messing around and trying to see what the CP limit should be for a true Grunt Mech and what it should be for Elite Grunts.

I've decided between 100-125 CP for Normal Grunts and 125-150 CP for Elites. The 140-150 CP Mechs border on Ace Customs which is fitting because that buffer exists for customization.

Incidentally, I was debating separating the costs of a Mech and its weapons and placing separate limits on them. So you can have a 100 CP limit on your base mech and its stuff and an additional 30 CP limit on the weapons it carries. Multipliers can be calculated separately and added accordingly thanks to the rule of multiplication.
>>
Hmm, trying to figure out how much to award IP to players.

I'll probably use Total # of Kills on a mech / 4 for awarding CP for players to spend on their mechs.

"That feel when you meet the Admiral for the first time."

"This girl is doing her part for Eisentor! Join us too today!"

"UJCIDF Attack? More like new free UJCIDF mechs!"

"Fairchild? There is nothing of fair or young about her."

"Are you tired of your govern treating you like a child? Join Einsentor today!"

"That feel when Oda screams: "HANABI!"

If you have two active shields can you pick which one takes the first hit?
>>
>>1427448
Didnt mean to quote there.
>>
>>1427448
No, IIRC having two would just mean they both activate on the first hit.

there was talk about two active shields in an earlier thread, but I don't remember which.
>>
Somebody might want to archive this thread in case Wong won't be able to because of his internet
>>
>>1425935
why make a smug kestrel loli?
>>
>>1428010
I was hit by surge of inspiration when I saw the original image... And that was reason enough.
>>
>>1428023
ok. as good a reason as any
>>
>>1428045
Hahahahahahaha.
I know that its a bit random, but I'm a somewhat creative person and I have been looking for new ways to express it other than writing... But the angel of inspiration had abandoned me during the my recent emotional tension with my best friend... So when a sudden surge of inspiration came to me again without any reason whatsoever after so much time of starring at blank spaces without ideas... I didn't questioned it, and grabbed desesperately at it like the Templar trying to steal the Jaeger's Glaive!

And thus, Smug Kestrel Loli was born.
>>
>>1428058
That is a feel I know. Been helping a friend code up a spread sheet for a pnp game because the ideas seemed interesting.
>>
>>1428145
Sometimes you just need to go with the flow even if the idea sounds unusual, maybe you'll leanr something with it, or maybe it will turn out better than the expected... And even if it ends up not being that rewarding... Well, at least you had fun with it.

Did Wong mentioned when he is going to QM next?
>>
>>1429037
No, he hasn't.
>>
>>1429037
>>1429051
I thought it was supposed to be this wednesday...

His internet died and the technician didn't show up to fix it.

IIRC his plan for missing a thread without announcing another one is for it to be a week and a day after the original planned date.
>>
Wong here, managing to briefly get connectivity via shenanigans.

So, the technician either didn't show up, or pulled a "knock once and then flee so you don't have to do the job". Then the customer service lady tried to schedule me without my permission during my work hours so her superiors for some asinine reason (probably so her superiors would think she resolved the problem). It's supposed to be fixed SATURDAY, so we'll tentatively say Monday is the next gametime.
>>
>>1429374
Wow, that's pretty fucked. I had some troubles with my internet connection, so called in a tech today. He just fixed it, no problem.

Sucks to have people like that.
>>
>>1429374
I know that feel. I once had someone come to my mom's house before I moved out trying to sell insurance for my grandfather that had been dead for more than 20 years.

I've been slowly reading this quest a bit. Still really behind. For some reason, though, the OP Post images always trigger my 'tism, with the quality of edits and super-visible pixel-wide outlines on stuff. Not a huge deal or anything, just bugs me.

I was bored as fuck, so I made the attached image. If I was more firm on my grasp of the story and characters, i'd have made a more earnest attempt, but I don't, so I made a dumb joke image instead.

Anyway i'll keep reading, so keep it up until I catch up. And then, preferably, after I catch up, too.
>>
>>1429692
Welcome to the quest, then. You came in at a nice time for catch-up, since Wong's internet isn't working, so we're on standby for the time being.

Also, that looks really nice.
>>
>>1429696
I went for "VHS Rip of a Chinese Bootleg" aesthetic, I think I sorta pulled it off.

Also fugg. Guess i'll have to do that this weekend then.
>>
>>1429697
Just for curiosity, how far are you into the archives, so far?
>>
>>1429698
Hard to say. I've read a few in the beginning of the setup, and read back a few of the more recent ones. sup/tg/'s lack of 'links to posts that link to this post' makes it too annoying for me to want to do it constantly.
>>
>>1429699
Definitely, that's a challenge. Still, looks like you're solid on the setup and the tourney that's being played out right now, with some time for Caesar's Bizzare Adventure.
>>
>>1429701
More or less.

Anyway i've realized that this was probably a bad time to post the thing I made seeing as it's 4am on a mostly used-up thread with the QM missing for the next several days, but oh well.
>>
>>1429702
Might as well save it for next thread, then.

Again, welcome to the quest.
>>
>>1429702
Welcome to the quest Kuroto-san!

From what you already read, what was your favorite part so far?

Also, your image edit skills are amazing, really sugoi desu.
>>
>>1429703
Might as well, if I hadn't already posted it.

>>1429709
I dunno, to be honest. Still need to dig into it more. I tend to enjoy non-combat stuff for some reason, mostly because I tend to have no idea about the rules. I like the idea of the perspective switching, too, allows a larger cast of characters, and allows more of them to have depth than sticking with a single protagonist would usually allow.

Also they aren't really amazing. Or even skills. I just own photoshop and have used it casually for a few years.
>>
>>1429714
Did you see my image edits? Compared to that, to me you are a professional.
>>
>>1427576
But what I'm wondering is how you determine which shield actually blocks since a hit can only be blocked once.
>>
>>1429714
It's not bad. Just read up a bit on some of the story and you'll be fine. Sides, don't worry about just having photoshop. I've been making propaganda posters and vs screens with paint. You're doing well.
>>
>>1429905
That better be paint.net and not just regular paint.
>>
>>1429916
It's regular paint. So long as I can get the thing to my liking I will use a rock and another rock.
>>

>>1429923
But paint.net is free and comes with a bunch of useful stuff like layers.
>>
>>1429931
Perhaps, but I don't really use those sort of things to begin with. For the most part I use simple shapes and the like to get the image I desire, so layering, special features and the like don't provide much for me. Nothing wrong with Paint.net though, but I use what I use and I have made some nice stuff only using paint.
>>
>>1429736
Nothing in the rules state explicitly which sheild goes first. So you could decide to alternate shields. I guess it depends on where the shot came from with facing in play.
