Character info pastebin in progress: http://pastebin.com/iB0tb7rz
Dice odds for best of 3: http://pastebin.com/994WTT3g

General rules:

There is a 10 minute voting period after each post. Non-contradictory votes will be combined as best as possible.

Write-ins for all votes are always welcome and encouraged. They may not all make it into the post or be altered to fit in, but I'll do my best to at least try to address the spirit of the write-in.

Very important or contentious votes may be redone in a stricter voting system as circumstances warrant.

Combat mechanics involve three rolls of 1d100, taking the best, and using the base accuracy and crit ranges of the game, roughly, but the 'turn order' will be more like the anime, where sometimes you can do a few moves in a row or be hit by a combo of moves yourself, all depending on circumstances. Stronger moves tend to take more time and have more cooldown than weaker moves, so beware of that timing. Speed is more important for closing ground, intercepting, and other things and doesn't necessarily mean going first. Infact, you can do more than one move in a row like the anime, but so can your opponents.

Call me out on a mistake and receive a suggestive picture, mostly likely a butt.

He has someone measure the crewmember and shout out his measurements. He looks mortified enough to blush, even through his unkempt stubble.

You quickly write it all down.

“So, just so we’re clear on the rules, you’ll get him tonight, I’ll get him tomorrow morning, and tomorrow evening, we’ll have him do a little runway show on the dock.”

“Who’s going to judge?”

“Ah, yes. Well I’ll select a judge, you can select a judge, and for the third, it has to be someone we both agree on. Perhaps someone from the local temple.” He emphasises the word local, while eyeing Keira. He doesn’t seem to trust her impartiality. The captain then flicks his fingers to summon his first mate, a tough looking older lady with greying hair. The sun and waves and that permanent scowl has done a number on her skin. “Naturally, you’ll be my choice.”

She spits. “It’s a real honor to waste time on indulging, captain.”

“You should be glad. Since you’re judging, I won’t ask you to help.“ He laughs, then turns to you. “As you can see, she might not choose to vote blindly in my favor. Who are you going to choose?”

Keira slithers her way through the group to your side. She’d be the obvious choice, but if she’s judging, you don’t think she can really help you out. And you’ll have to find a judge you both can agree on after this.

If she votes for us, she opens herself up for exploitation

“I’ll bring someone tomorrow.” You tell him. You’re thinking of either Jane or Valerie, or maybe someone else, but you’re not sure.

“Alright. Whoever they are, I’m sure they won’t be as slavishly desperate for your attention as this one.” He waves to Keira.

“I am not!” She protests. “I mean, Herb is nice and all, b-”

He laughs again. “You’ll have to forgive me, young priestess. It’s not often I get a chance to tease someone from your temple. I assure you, I have just as much respect for you as the many religions of the many ports I’ve been to.”

She gives a disarming smile. “Oh! That’s okay. It’s nice for someone to treat me like...wait, what do you mean by that?”

He ignores her question to some chuckles and some slight worry or disgruntlement from the crowd. It’s a mixed reaction that’s mostly not in favor of his jib, but he seems charming enough to get away with it.

“Now here’s the tricky part. We both have to agree to the third judge.” He strokes his chin and leans on one knee. He glances over to the bartender. “Hey, old salt!”

“I’m younger than ya.”

“How would you like to judge a contest?”

Keira interrupts. “You come here all the time. How do we know he’s not on your side?”

The bartender, overhearing this, puts down the mug he’s cleaning. “Well, he always pays his tab.” He considers. “But it’s always months late and he pays half of it with random junk. I could go either way.”

The crowd cheers and laughs some more. It’s an infectious roar.

“Hmph, really? Okay then. That was easy. We’re all set.” He grabs the crewman by the arm, the pushes him your way. ”He’s yours for the night. Be gentle.” He laughs again. “Alright boys, one more round and we’re done. Don’t worry though, we’ll celebrate hard tomorrow!”

He and his cohorts start finishing their drinks. He takes you aside one more time. “You’ve got some guts, Herb. That’s the only reason this is happening. But don’t think I’ll go easy on you.” He pats you on the shoulder. “Either way, no hard feelings, eh?” He whips himself up straight, and two flares burst from his hands in a shocking display. “It’s all about presentation!”

With that, he starts gathering his people up, minus his one crewman, and leaving. Presumably, to his ship.

“Wait! Can you tell me about our volunteer?”

“I’m right here. You can ask me.” The crewman says in a quiet and unassertive voice. Nobody seems to acknowledge him.

Captain Pahoa raises an eyebrow. “Tell you what? You can see him, can’t you?” The Captain smacks the crewmembers belly with the back of his hand. “I can tell you he’s got a big mouth.” He’s referring to him telling you about Taipai. He gets up and sighs. “Ensign Iaho, a man who can only tie a good bowline and maybe drink more than anyone else.”

“Captain...”

“Oh come on. Get a sense of humor about yourself and you won’t get picked on so much. That, or turn that gut into muscle.” He taps the gut again. “Tomorrow, I’ll make you look fabulous, so cheer up. You’re killing the mood.”

“Yes captain!” He gives a sloppy salute.

Captain Pohoa, despite giving the order for everyone to get ready to leave, spends some more time hanging out with you. Sometimes he pinches your cheeks or otherwise teases you. He seems to keep his eyes and attention on you for a long time before regretfully having to leave. You think you gave Polu a good amount of extra time. Keira winks and pokes her pokedex.

After that, the captain leaves. You, Ensign Iaho, and Keira are alone in the bar.

“So, you want to confirm those measurements or something else?” He doesn’t really look like he knows what to do.

half of looking good is having confidence in yourself, let's get to know him and make him more confident and we should be able to win this no problem.

Let's also get to know his taste a bit, if we get him in an outfit he hates then he might not make it look good because he's not into it. We'll have to work it out with him specifically in mind, not just what we think looks good

“Want to grab some coffee and chat? I want to learn all about you.”

He gives you a funny look. “You want to get to know me?”

“Uh huh! Fashion comes from within. I can’t bring out your inner shine without getting to know you.”

“Uhh, sure. Captain said to follow you for the evening. I think he just wanted to get rid of me, though.”

You pat him on the back, and you and Keira take him out to an all night coffee shop. It’s an off brand knockoff of a popular coffee franchise back home. Still, this part of town is a little less sketchy.

Polu meets up with you, and reports that he wasn’t able to find anything. As in, the entire ship is empty. He keeps his voice down when telling you that so that Iaho doesn’t hear..

You talk with Iaho for awhile. At first he’s wary and shy, but after a good cup of joe and a box of donuts, he really loosens up. He tells you all about his childhood on Neaka island. He was the youngest child with two older sisters. His favorite pokemon is Solrock because of how it shines like the sun. He admires a singer that you’ve never heard of, but he sounds a lot like that guy from the mainland that always has strange sunglasses and shiny suits on the piano. But he also wants to be more authoritative and project more confidence. He feels like he isn’t tough or intimidating enough.

“We’ll make you something really handsome. That will be the main focus. But with a nice Solrock, professional twist.

“Well, alright. If you can manage that, it sounds great. Just, do me a favor and don’t make me look stupid, okay?”

“Of course!” You assure him. And for the first time, you see him give a genuine smile. It looks pretty good on him, too. “Here, let me draw some sketches and get your thoughts. We’ll have a gold and black trim maybe. I want to get my friend Val to help to-”

He stops you. “Don’t show me. The captain is going to ask. I can’t report what I didn’t see.” He gets up and stretches. “Thanks Herb. Keira.” He gives a bow. “You two be careful on your way home. I’ll see you tomorrow.”

Polu yawns. “What material are you going to use? I bet we could find some of that glittery stuff I saw at the market. It might be expensive, though.”

“I can help sew.” Keira volunteers. “We do that a lot. Any pattern you need, just show me a picture.”

You all arrive back at the ship. It’s been a long night. Valerie, Hana, and Laki were staying up waiting. Laki puts you and Polu in a headlock for staying out so late in such a dangerous area. She lets you go to hear all about your day though, finding it fascinating. That is, until she yawns. She leaves to go sleep.

Polu crashes on the couch and Keira vanishes somewhere to sleep. Valerie is surprisingly eager and alert. She invites you into her room to talk about it some more so as not to keep everyone up.

“Can I come?” Hana asks?

“Of course! You’re always welcome in my bedroom.” Valerie tells her. Hana stiffens up for some reason.

The three of you sit down to discuss ideas. Hana doesn’t really have much to contribute and falls asleep fairly quickly despite her efforts. You and Valerie conspire in hushed voices and go over a lot of design drafts.

Valerie yawns. “I guess now we just need to get it together, and then figure out how to present it.”

“How to present it?”

“Yeah.” She lays down on her bed next to Hana. “If it’s anything like a contest, you need to do a lot of flair and backgrounds stuff.”

Huh. You didn’t put much thought into that. You remember the captain talking about presentation though. He won’t be a slouch there.

If you’re designing a blue and orange suit with a bit of a shine to it, how can you help present it?

You yawn and lay down. Just for a minute. “We can play a song he likes.”

“Good idea.” Valerie mumbles into her pillow. “There’s a song Mudkip really likes. I should use that next time.”

“And if we use Sunny Day, it’ll really make him shine.”

“That’s,” she yawns again, “also a good idea.” She seems to zone out.

“Val?”

No response.

You think it’s time for you to get up and leave. But as you move, you notice a strong hand keeping you there. “Hana? Your hand is on my...umm.” You try to scooch away, but the grip tightens. With no response from her, you figure you’ll just wait until she adjusts. You can stay up until then.

You wake up the next morning having failed to keep awake for even a minute. Valerie rests her head on your chest, and Hana on your lap. Gobble somehow managed to make himself into your pillow.

Valerie wakes up and brushes herself off. “Oh gosh.” She adjusts her hair. “It’s always like this in the morning.” She rushes off to fix it up in the attached bathroom. You don’t remember her being that self-conscious about it last time, but you guess you were both distracted.

Hana is still asleep. Oh boy, her face being on your lap like that is getting really awkward, considering the other night.

Hey now, let's not get too ambitious. I'm not so sure Herb can pull that joke off. Let's stick to easier things, like beating up dragons and outwitting pirates and drinking poison and carrying girls through caves and petting sharks. Let's save the riske humor for when we're cooler.

Girls sure strange in their sleep.

“Hana?” You gently nudge her.

Nothing.

“Hana. Wake up.”

She doesn’t wake up. She instead snuggles right into it. Oh jeez, her face is warm even through the clothes. Bella gives her a hard poke, which does the job.

“Bella!” You think she was a bit harder than she needed to be. Bella looks apologetic, but she makes a rude gesture to Hana when she thinks you’re not looking.

“Oh. Oh!” Hana realizes the situation as she wakes up and pats around her head. She slowly pushes herself up and faces you, then slowly her pale dark skin turns a deep shade of red.

“S-sorry!” You both say in unison. There’s an awkward, shared laugh.

“Heh, mornings, right?”

“Yeah.” You reply. “But last night I slept here because I couldn’t move. You had me, umm, grabbed.”

She looks even more horrified. “I don’t want you to get the wrong idea. I’m not...you know. I mean, things got a little crazy, but I don’t do that sort of thing with anyone.” She’s fidgeting hard. At least, when you have the courage to look directly at her. “I’m not just some...some dick garage!”

You try not to burst into laughter at the phrase. You’ve never heard that before. She must have picked it up from Laki or something because she doesn’t usually talk like that.

“It’s okay. I did stuff too. Things just got a bit crazy.”

“You don’t regret it, right? And you don’t think I’m some slutty weirdo? Or some weird creeper?"

Of course you don’t think that. But you’re not sure what to say. You never really know what to say when it comes to this sort of stuff.

“Of course not!” You finally force yourself to look her in the eye. As embarrassed as you are, you get the feeling it’s even worse for her. She looks very relieved to hear you say that, and even brushes the hair out of her face. You never really noticed how much it blocks her eyes until now.

“I’m glad.”

“I was worried you thought I was some sort of player.”

She stifles a laugh. But she looks apologetic when she sees your reaction to that. “I’m sorry. I’m not laughing because you couldn’t be. I mean, you’re,” she swallows, “c-cute, and it’s like the more interest a girl shows in you, the more others want your attention.” Wait, what? “It’s that you’re too sweet to lie or break hearts. You’re a good friend. I mean, not friend; person. Guy. I mean, both. All three!”

“Thanks, Hana.” You interrupt her. “You’re really nice, too. I wouldn’t feel comfortable about it if you weren’t so nice.”

There’s another silent moment, but this one isn’t as awkward.

“Umm... did I do okay?” You ask.

“What? Oh.” She looks away again. “Oh yeah.” The way her body moves and her face turns even as she’s looking away really boosts your ego. “Uhh, did I?”

“Yes!” Your voice cracked a little. “I don’t have anything to compare it to, but it was...wow.”

“Awesome!” She whispers to herself. “I didn’t really feel like I did my best though.” Her hands clenches the blanket and you see a little bead of sweat form on her face. “I was thinking, that as friends, maybe we could practi-”

“Sorry to be a stickler, but the ship can’t handle showers for everyone in the morning.” Valerie comes into the room. You and Hana nearly leap to other sides of the bed. “So we’ll have to space them out, or if you’re comfortable with it, double up.” She fluffs her hair. “Don’t tell Laki though. She can shower on her own.”

You have a quick shower with Polu, change, and get ready for a busy day. You need to work fast. Valerie insists on coming with you to help.

“Jeez, I don’t know if I’ll be any good there.” Polu says. “This isn’t really my strong suit. I can’t sew or anything, either.”

You feel a bit bad for him. You can tell that he’s not at his most confident. He hasn’t punched you in the arm hard enough to bruise all day. You thought you were more of a team effort at the gym, but it’s obvious he doesn’t think so.

I'm not as adverse to this as I thought I would be. Maybe friendship is just a turn-on for me? Yes, but it's more likely I just don't see it as a big threat to a Keira romantic route.

>>1374109
I think Val is playing hard-to-get with Laki. Not to mess with her, but to feel like she has control in the relationship too, and so she doesn't get caught up in things faster than she'd be comfortable with. Finding out for certain is just another reason for me to hungrily wait for alt-perspective bins, I suppose.

>>1374114
Hana takes her prosthetics off to shower though, and that would likely feel doubly personal and exposing to her. She'd also probably be light enough to pick up though...

Suspiciously long mixed sex showers aren't very subtle though.

You put a hand on Polu’s shoulder. Hey! You normally get self-conscious about that sort of thing, but it just came naturally. He must be rubbing off on you. “I need you,” Hana freezes up again, “to take care of the sound setup. If we’re doing it at the docks, the water and everything will make it really tricky.”

“Bro! I know all about that!” He shoots up. “I practiced making a surfing video for when I could afford a camera when I was a kid.”

His enthusiasm makes Bella imitate him. She gets like that sometimes when someone makes a big display of emotion. She stops and takes cover when she hears Cutiefly come by, but luckily for her Cutiefly is busy following Keira.

You don’t have it in you to tell him that music is added in post production. If he knows how to make it work well around the water, that’s all that matters. “Great! Let me know if I can help with anything.”

“Oh man, I so got this, bro!” He stretches. “It’ll blow everyone’s... ummm.” He snaps his fingers. “Feet gloves...no..Socks! Their socks off!”

Huh, you guess you haven’t seen a lot of people wearing socks here now that you think about it. It’s strange the things you don’t notice.

Oh right! You still need to select your judge.

“Oh yeah. Can you get in touch with Jane, too? For our judge.”

“Bro, Jane?” He hesitates. “Well, if we phrase it right, she’ll be fair. It’s a risky move, though.”

“Didn’t you sneak onto a pirate ship?” You retort in a surprisingly confident tone. But being aware of that makes you self-conscious. “I mean, you know, that’s pretty risky.”

“Yeah.” He chuckles. “I still think Jane is scarier, though.” He picks up his pokedex to call her. “Wish me luck.”

“Good luck.”

He makes a motion to be quiet. He’s already connected.

“Sorry.” You whisper.

He motions again to be quiet.

You move on. You and Valerie need to do some shopping. Keira is going to help sew too. Laki decides to stay out of it, but she’ll come to watch. She says she’ll need her strength up to look after you after you manage to get yourself into trouble with dangerous pirates. You’re not sure if you feel insulted by that or if it’s sweet that she’s worried about you in her own way.

You and Valerie go over the design and measurements one more time before setting out. Your pokemon even weigh in a bit, but their contributions are a little questionable. Mace seems to motion that it needs a cape, Gobble thinks you should make a fried fish symbol on it, then gets distracted and asks for food. Bella wants to model a prototype and seems disappointed that you don’t have time for that. Dice stays out of it and chases the others with chomps.

You stretch and share a look with Valerie. You’ll have to really move it to meet your deadline.

[That’s all for tonight. We’ll pick up earlier tomorrow and with a faster update pace. Thanks for coming everyone!]

Hopefully if we do a good job it'll mean getting to play even more dress-up with our friends in the future.

Specifically, giving Mace a cape and putting together outfits for ourself specifically to make people see us a certain way. Like, say, as something other than an easy mark when we're in Take. Or giving an appearance of confidence so our battle opponents get nervous.

And Hana can wear shorts for that booty.

And Keira can paint our chest and we'll do her hair.

And Gobbs can put on that silk scarf.

I wonder why Pohoa's boat was empty? Either he's got a secret cargo hold, or that offer to play dress-up on the boat was less than honest.

Anyways, hype.

“Hurry!” Valerie yells as she leaps ahead. Her golden hair shining in the morning sunlight. She’s been growing increasingly enthusiastic about this, despite having no stake it in. It’s people like her that keep you from getting too cynical.

Huh, for some reason you suddenly feel silly. You brush that aside and catch up.

The two of you shop around while Hana and Keira mostly just hang back, unsure about what to do to help at the moment.

We’ll need to decide one last thing. The fabric. There’s a lot to choose from here, although most of it is in irregular forms, like they got them from a discount warehouse or second hand.

The first choice is a bit off on the colour, but it feels amazing. You’re sure he’d be very comfortable in this.

The other is almost grossly incandescent, but it sure screams fabulous to you.

The next is an amazing vispum weave combined with mega-amphoros wool. That’s an incredible find. There’s no way you could afford it, though.

Lastly is something that you could easily and quickly modify, making any screwups an easy and quick fix.

The lining would always be a more comfortable and cheaper material anyways, but the outside material would still effect how nice it is to wear. Unless Herb isn't making a lining, but that would be kind of noticeable if the judges know anything about clothes. People only do that when they're making costumes and such.

It’s a bit pricey, but you decide to buy the comfortable material for the inner part, and the grossly incandescent for the outer portion. Even with everyone’s help, it’s a bit of a rush job. Keira helps sew, but apparently islanders do a different type of sewing than the manufacturer. Hana is eager to help to, but when you come up behind her to check on how she’s doing and give her a compliment, she accidently went a bit haywire with her arm. Valerie got a bit carried away and didn’t communicate one of the parts very well. All in all, there are a lot of small issues. Still, as long as he does okay with the presentation and nobody inspects the inside, it should be fine.

No time to worry about it. You and the girls go to the docks and find Polu finishing up the sound setup.

“Good job!” You tell him. “Where’d you get all the sound equipment?” You nod to Jane who is sitting on a stool near the dock. She’s either eyeing you suspiciously or just facing to directly towards the sun.

Polu scratches the back of his neck. “Well, when the gym leader heard about that bet, she insisted on helping.”

You suddenly feel a cold shadow grow behind you, even in the bright island sun. You turn and see her scowling face.

“What did you do?” Uh oh. “You bet the location of my diary?”

“Umm, I...well...”

“I’m impressed. That’s sneaky. Stupid to cross me, but sneaky.”

“So you’re not mad?”

She doesn’t answer, she just looks down at you. You’re almost thankful by the booming sound of the Captain storming in from the other side of the deck.

“What did you do?” He demands.

Now you’re really confused.

“I sent you a distraction and emptied your cargo.” She gloats. Is she talking about you? “I admit, I didn’t see things coming to some sort of fashion challenge. Asking you for your amulet isn’t a a route I planned for.”

“We were a distraction?” Polu asks, a little angry.

“Well, yeah.” She dismisses him, then turns back to her brother. “Now, let’s talk business. You give up your amulet, and I give you back your cargo.”

He’s fuming now. “I’ll tear your gym apart looking for it! Then I’ll tear you apart!” He reaches for her, but she easily moves out of his reach.

“Face it, I won.” She taunts. “But I still want to see this little show of yours.”

Laki puts herself between the two fighting siblings and your group.

The way I see it, we should win the amulet and keep it for ourselves until these two settle things maturely, with words. I expect as much from a gym leader at least.
>>
Also my reason for staying out of it for now is that we can hold his amulet until she agrees to give his stuff back

“Rrrrr.” He growls. “I just need to get leverage of my own to even the score.” He points to you. “Grab one of them!”

“You can’t!” Kalai yells and moves beside Laki. Your pokemon also move to defend you.

He unleashes a huge puff of smoke and there’s all sorts of noise and confusion. You try to keep your eyes peeled or listen for what to do or something. You can barely see Laki in front of you. Sometimes the smoke clears enough that you can see a foot or an arm of someone you recognize.

After a good long while, the smoke clears. Jane is standing by with her pokemon, looking like she’s the one responsible. You see the gym leader being held hostage by the Captain’s crew.

“Please, I can’t harm something so beautiful.” He motions to you as he talks to her. “But I knew you’d get in the way if I threatened him.”

She grunts. “You can’t keep me for long.”

“Long enough for my crew to rip your gym apart.”

She sighs. “I get it. You want to exchange the cargo for calling you crew off.”

He laughs. “Well?”

She nods and he lets her go. She grudgingly touches her wrists. “Back to square one.” She walks back to you and Polu. “Go on, have your little contest. Who knows, maybe you’ll have another surprise like at the gym.”

You and your friends exchange looks. You guess you should just go on with it, then.

“Psh. fine.” The captain says. He yells out to his crewman. “Put it on. We’re up first.” He motions to a few crewmembers. “Help him into it. He’ll need it.”

They sigh and go off. You guess it’s not a job they wanted.

“So, how’s the gym?”

“Standing.”

Yeesh. Even Jane could teach them a thing or two about friendly tones.

On that note, she finally comes over. You can see from her face that she’s confused about what just happened.

“Ah, so you’re the judge, are you?” He bows and kisses her hand. “My, what beautiful eyes.”

She takes her hand back slowly. “You can’t butter me up.”

“Buttering up? That’s a mainlander saying. You must be new here.”

Her eyes and nostrals flare. “What’s it to you?”

“Oh, it’s alright. I know some people might be giving you a hard time. But you just keep that beautiful chin up and keep at ‘er, and you’ll earn their respect.”

She looks more confused than ever. “W-what are you... I told you, you won’t butter...you won’t get me to be impartial.”

He laughs. “I don’t expect you to vote for me, dear. If you came all this way for that little Pikachu, it’s clear where your heart lies. I’m just being friendly.”

Her eyes go even wider and she clenches a fist. “I...how dare!...Gah!”

You hate to admit it, but a small part of you actually enjoys seeing her flustered. You’re a little confused about why he got her so worked up, though.

Before she can get her mouth to work right to formulate a proper response, the show starts. He leaps up onto a platform and swings his arms wide. “Ladies and gentleman. I present to you, Iaho!”

Iaho is shoved from his spot behind a screen. His outfit looks pretty normal. In fact, it’s even a little unflattering. It’s a plain sailor outfit. But something about it is bugging you. Like it’s got a bunch of extra material. As he’s walked closer from the end of the dock, his two escorts take out their swords and point at his back.

“Thank you for coming to witness this scurvy, no good Ensign being sentenced to walk the plank.”

“Awww, captain.” He moans.

The captain makes a motion for him to be quiet. Iaho is poked and prodded and sent to the edge of the dock. His crewmembers look to him for the final order, and he gives it with a grand gesture.

“Walk the plank!”

He regretfully walks off the edge of the dock into the very shallow water below. There’s a big splash, and a loud laugh from the crew.

“That poor man.” Valerie says.

“Witness as the sea makes a man out of even Iaho!” The captain declares.

He makes his way from the edge of the water to the shore. He tumbles off clumsily and comes up yelling that he’s alright. As he comes out at the shore, his outfit suddenly tightens around the gut and a few other places. It acts like a water activated girdle. He whips his wet hair back out of habit and he actually comes out looking pretty good. He got a tiny cut on his forehead, though.

The judges whisper and look generally impressed. Jane even seems to think that was a neat trick.

“You’re up.” The captain leans over to you.

Okay, you get up and take Iaho back to the changing area.

“Didja see that? That captain might be rough on me, but I guess he really just wants to make better. You know?” He clumsily tries to get out of the circulation stopping pants.

You and Polu present him the outfit you made. He looks a bit wary at the strange stitching on the seams. “Awww, Herb. I gotta suck in my gut and I’m all wet. And everyone’s expectations are going to be pretty high.”

“Don’t worry, this is a magic outfit.” You tell the big man.

“Magic?” He gives you a funny look, like you just de-aged a few years right in front of his eyes.

“Yeah! It’ll make your inner self shine and show through. It doesn’t try to make you something you’re not, because what you are is fantastic!”

He gives you the warmest smile you’ve seen from him. You place a hand on his forehead and concentrate. He doesn’t even notice as you take the cut off of him.

Oh jeez. That makes you tired and hungry.

He gets up and confidently strolls on. Polu has to fumble to start the music.

You ask Gobble to use sunny day. Your timing isn’t great, but luckily Polu is on the case with the cues.

The man moves with the music too. He looks so happy. You were worried that the crew would make fun of him, but he has enough confidence that nobody thinks to do it. He even earns some cheers. You’re almost positive you heard it rip as he brought his arms up, but the way he swings them, nobody notices.

The judges convene. The captain got a nine, eight, and seven point two from his crewmember, the barman, and Jane respectively.

They put their scorecards up for you now. The first mate puts up a six. That doesn’t seem very fair. The barman, looking like he got carried away, put a nine.

Jane holds up her sign. Nine point three.

You do some quick math in your head to double check. You won!

“What!” The captain shoots up.

The gym leader laughs. “Looks like your mind games backfired.”

The captain is in stunned silence. His crew all look to him to see how he’s going to react.

“Nine?” The captain asks the bartender.

“Sorry, Pohoa. But you knew I wasn’t a fashion guy when you asked me to do this. I just know what I like.”

The captain slowly walks over to you, keeping his head down. You fight every urge in your body to cower as his mass becomes more apparent with closeness.

“I... I guess I got a bit cocky, huh?” He hands the amulet over.

“Yes you did!” Kalai leaps up. “Herb, you wonderful, golden haired bundle of surprises!” She gives you big, long, wet kiss right on the lips. “I knew this was the right idea!” She leaps back to her brother. “It’s over, ex-captain!”

“That’s not your call to make.” He says under his breath.

“Oh. right. Herb, hand it over!”

You hold it out over Gobble’s open mouth.

“What are you doing?”

“You two don’t act like a good brother and sister. You need to sort your issues out.”

“Herb...” She slowly walks forward. “We had an agreement.”

“I’m not going to keep it. I just want you two to work things out before I hand it over.” You let it drop a little on the chain by accident. She takes it as you being serious so you pretend it was on purpose.

They exchange looks. “Well, you’re the one that never visits mom.”

“Because she keeps saying I should be more like you! Do you know what that’s like every single time?”

“Do you know what it’s like to have a brother who goes out doing what you do?”

“Oh come on. I don’t hurt anybody. It’s all theatrics and bluster.”

Have the crew balks at overhearing that. The more experienced seem to just nod knowingly.

“Come on. Let’s go somewhere private. Herb, you’re coming with, we’re not letting you out of our sight while you got that thing.”

“You’re not upset?

“Yes I’m upset! If you were a perfect little cherub I’d...” He sighs. “Ah. I wouldn’ta bet it if part of me didn’t want to lose.”

You follow them onto the ship where they make some tea. Laki insists on staying with you, and so everyone but Jane follows. She does stay outside, though.

You listen to the two siblings fight and fight for hours. Then talk. Then fight some more. Then laugh, then more fighting.

You find yourself being nudged awake. “Wake up.”

“Muh?” You check the amulet and find it missing. Laki is still standing over you and hands it to you.

“You should go into fashion. You were amazing. A water reactive outfit? That was genius!” Valerie nods in agreement.

“It wasn’t good enough.” He jokes.

“It wasn’t your idea. It was how Iaho felt.”

“I think it had more to do with how that girl outside feels about you.”

“Jane?” Laki laughs. “Yeah, she’s totally sweet on Herb. She’s a real softie too, and just tons of fun to be around.”

“Wow Laki, that’s really nice of you to say. I didn’t know you were getting along with her now.” You congratulate her.

She raises a hand to say something, but just gives up instead.

“How’d you get that idea with the outfit?” Valerie asks.

“Oh. It happened by accident the first time. I made myself a little outfit with some flair, found myself overboard, and the damn thing nearly squeezed me out like a sausage!” He laughs at the memory. “A little bit of practice you can get it to do all sorts of stuff. I’ll show you.” He takes Valerie aside to show her a roll of fabric and some drawings.

Kalia takes you aside now, and you hand her the amulet. “What are you going to do with it?”

“I think that first mate of his could do just fine shipping vispum. I hear they’re really upping production. Now’s the time to get in on it.” She pats your pocket. “You all earned these.”

You reach in and find a shard.

The captain ends up giving Valerie a whole roll of the material he used and a big stack of notes and drawings. She’s ecstatic.

Seconding this guy. Thank Jane for coming to judge. "Thank her for her deciding vote" sounds too much like we're thanking her for helping us win and Herb knows her well enough to avoid that by now.
>>
“Good luck, you two!” You tell them both. “And thanks for the great battle. NExt time, instead of getting double teamed, we should do it one on one.”

Hana makes a slight squeaking noise. She must be anxious to leave.

“Heh. You’re a strange one. Good luck out there.”

“Yeah huh. That’s great.” Laki says, not seeming to be a fan of the older woman ever since she gave you that excited kiss. “Bye now.” She slumps when she see’s Jane waiting.

“Jane! Thanks for coming out and judging.”

“Being selected to settle disputes is regarded as an honor among Loanan’s, is it not?” She bows.

“That’s true!” Keira says. “Usually it’s something people ask the clergy to handle. Not many people here seem to care, though.”

Jane looks genuinely happy that Keira confirmed that. “Well, as long as you understand I did it for the honor, and not to do you any favors.”

“And thanks for waiting out here. You didn’t have to do that.”

She looks away. “I couldn’t sit back and not find out if you took over a pirate ship. You’ve already gotten your little harem. I have to keep you in check.”

Laki chuckles at the comment. Keira asks what a harem is and if she can be in charge of it. Laki has to explain it by referencing some Loanan word for it. Hana hangs back where you can’t quite see her face.

“And check on your pokemon.” She gives Mace a little nod. He nods back. “Don’t think their natural ability will make up for your shoddy training.” She stretches, then heads off. “Get another badge quickly.”

You wave as she leaves. Your group travels back to Valerie’s boat.

“Umm, I hate to be rude, but I’ll have to leave tomorrow for Huka to participate in my next contest. I can give anyone a ride there, but can’t make any stops."

Everyone tells her that’s fine. She’s been more than generous staying here and letting everyone use the ship. Hana says she’ll come, of course. And you still need to do your tasks to pay off the rod. Looks like this is going to be the last night together like this for now.

We've done a bit of dance training with Gobble and it shouldn't be to hard to turn some of our battle training into contest stuff.
I'm just a bit disappointed as we've already missed out on one contest and I don't want to end up not getting into it at all.

You’ve used your healing at least once per day for awhile now, and although it’s only been for small cuts and things, it still seems to drain you. You yawn, then shake it off.

Well, you have a few things you want to do. First is catch a Chinchou for Hana. She really deserves something nice. Awww, she’s already fallen asleep on the couch. She looks like she’s gotten a bit of sun. Huh, now that you check in a mirror, so have you.

Next, give Laki a massage. You think she’s running out of patience on that front. You noticed she’s been doing a lot of pushups and chinups lately for some reason. You let her know you’ll finally make good on massaging her as you pass by.

“Good. I was worried I’d have to start getting physical with you.”

You grab your fancy fishing rod and head out. Everyone else is chatting and didn’t seem to notice. You guess it’s been a long day. You watch the sunset as you set up your rod.

You’re glad they got shards for their help with the siblings too. They really earned it. And Valerie keept talking excitedly about what she’s going to do with that material, too. You feel really good about how today went. You're glad that stuff is over though. It's time to focus on your other obligations.

You decide to wake up Hana. It doesn’t feel right to do it without her. You climb back up and gently nudge her awake. She’s a heavy sleeper though and needs a really good shove that you almost feel is too much.

“Mneh? Herb? Oh, I wasn’t touching you again, was I?”

“Oh no. I thought we could try fishing before tomorrow.”

She gets up and wipes her eyes. “I’d like that.”

The two of you head back outside again. The sound of the waves and warm night air soon make everything else melt away. You take Dice aside and ask him to try to drive Chinchou towards you. Hana thinks that’s a great idea and asks her Tirtouga to do the same. Despite not interacting with it much, you like that Pokemon. It’s got a good attitude and an expressive face.

The two pokemon swim off into the water. You get nervous as soon as they’re out of sight, but you know you just have to trust them. At least, your brain knows that.

You and Hana cast the rod together. You almost get tossed over from the power of her arm, but manage to keep your footing. Sometimes you forget about that.

In almost no time at all, there’s a tug on the rod. You both pull and bam! Chinchou!

“No way!” You can’t even believe it. And is that the same one was before?

It flips onto the sand behind you. Dice and Tirtouga follow up from the waters and come onto the beach. “Good job, guys!”

Hana is frozen. “I didn’t think about this part. What if I screw up again?” She shakes her head before you can say anything. “No. I can do this. Hey, Chinchou. Remember me?”

It nods, but looks around the both of you and your pokemon for a way back to the sea.

“I want to be your trainer. I know we didn’t have a great start, but I think we ran into each other again for a reason.”

It considers her offer, then makes some gestures. You’re not sure, but you think it’s asking her to swim with it.

“Oh. Umm.” She doesn’t know how to respond. Hana can’t swim with those metal legs and that arm of hers.

>Suggest that Tirtouga and Dice help her. She can take the limbs off, right?
>Give her a tasty snack to offer it instead
>Take the lead for a second and explain that she can’t swim, but she’s a nice trainer

Come on Hana, I believe in you!
>>
“If I can help, let me know.” You decide to stay out of it beyond that. It’s important that she do some things on her own, right?

She takes a few moments to work herself up, looks back at you, then the Chinchou. She takes off her shirt and shorts.

Oh wow! Even in the dark you can see a lot. It's a bit different seeing her from this angle and knowing what parts you touched. You feel a little guilty thinking like that when this is such an important moment for her.

“I can’t swim.” She tells it. “But I’ll go as far out as I can.” She backs out into the water. Her feet sink a few inches into the loose sand, but she keeps going. Chinchou cautiously follows, but keeps just out of reach.

The water splashes her surprisingly toned thighs and she gasps. Chinchou backs away for a moment, but gets over it. Soon Hana is up to her chest and shoulders, and Chinchou is swimming around her head. Hana ends up having to put some effort into pulling her legs out every few seconds because she keeps sinking in.

Chinchou swims just a little farther out. Hana, determined to follow, plugs her nose and goes forward.

Then you don’t see her few a few seconds. Then a few more.

What do you do? Is she stuck? Is she just bonding? Every second counts if she’s in danger. But what if it’s fine and you do something to scare it off?

>Dive in after her! It didn’t seem very afraid of you

“Mace, can you hear anything?”

He tries focusing his hearing on the spot, but with the ship and sounds of the sea, he’s not really able to tell what’s going on.

Come on. Come on. You count a few seconds. Eight, nine, ten.

Hana! Where are you?

You shuffle on your feet. Tirtouga seems to be picking up on your anxiety and looks to you to see if it should go after her. “Umm, hold tight for now.”

It isn’t really sure about that, but it does what you say.

Twenty two, twenty three.

Hana rockets over the surface with a gasp and Chinchou in her arms. She splashes back into the water, then struggles to stand in the shallower water. Eventually she gets it, and just before Chinchou loses confidence.

“So, what do you say?” She pants.

It nods.

She squishes it in a big hug and it seems to regret it’s choice just a little. “Eeee!” After a few more good squeezes, she lets it go onto the sand, and presents it with a pokemon. After it’s allowed to look it over, she gently taps it on and in it goes.

You both watch as the ball ticks three times, then dings. She keeps laughing and jumping excitedly, and you suspect that if her feet didn’t keep sinking in the sand, she’d be clearing some impressive heights.

Togepi ends up getting a little jealous, and Hana finally comes down for her giddy high and assure it that she hasn’t forgotten about it. After that, Hana becomes aware of her clothing situation and starts looking more and more self-conscious. You suppose you don’t have to look as much, but it’s hard not to when she’s so excited.

“Sorry about that.” She quickly puts her clothes back on and covers the scarred parts especially fast. Her clothes cling and get soggy because there’s no towel to dry off with first. “Heh, I don’t want to kill the chef’s appetite.” She awkwardly laughs at her self deprecating joke.

[Thanks everyone. That’s it for today. Not sure if we’ll run during the week, but I’ll try to keep you posted. If not, working on the bins is the focus.]

[Laki doesn't trust strange people, especially women, around Herb. The girls in the group are hard enough to keep track of. The thought of some strange floozy leading around precious Herb just makes her angry. She's also a little threatened that Herb's attention is so split away from her, lately, too, but that's secondary to his stupid ass getting tricked or taken advantage of.

Herb has that unique combination of cute enough and non-threatening enough to want to tease that brings it out in girls that are insecure about themselves. Next sessions should give some time to talk to her.]

I want to mention how pleased I am that we went to pirate island and were recognized for our successes which stemmed from straightforward emotional honesty, and being an encouraging and supportive force in people's lives.

Like, Herb's really shaping up to be the sort of good example that I'd like to see in a gym leader or elite four or priest. He's got wonderful skills like: patience, compassion, ability to ask for help, humility, and optimism. His abilities, like cooking, fashion, and healing, really reflect that attitude he brings. They aren't flashy skills or abilities like aura pulses or ninja tricks or anything like that. But I'd argue they're more useful. More flexible at least.

That said, we still need to take Keira up on her offer of aura teachings. Practice without study will only take us so far.

I wonder how much our healing seeps into our massages? If I'm remembering right, gains come from micro-tears in the muscles healing. If we can make that process instantaneous, it would go a long way towards any athlete's training efficacy. It'd explain Herb's quick gains pretty well too, if Gobble decides to do an in-universe explanation.

Anyways, I guess I'm just looking forwards to rubbing down all our friends.

I'm sorry. I know the evidence is hard to look at but, you'll have to learn to live with it.

some /his/ thread about weird rulers. I think it was originally about some roman or byzantine empress

>After a few more good squeezes, she lets it go onto the sand, and presents it with a pokemon. After it’s allowed to look it over, she gently taps it on and in it goes.
That, my friends, is a butt. Shame on all of you for missing it.
>>
>>1378127
To be fair, I was a bit more focused on Hana's disturbing behaviors.

She saw us avoiding looking at her and assumed she disgusted us, rather than that we just didn't want to seem lecherous.

And she risked sinking rather than take her prosthetics off.

Seriously, girl's got issues. I know I haven't got the best sense of what's appropriate to say or not, but... we should at least ask her to be careful now that she might be going off on her own. Right?
>>
>>1378150
I sort of want to lecture her on being careful and help her with her self worth, but at the same time I kinda wana wait for her high of catching the Pokemon to wear off. I don't want to blast that.

Also private time with Laki.
>>
>>1378182
Yeah, I suppose for now it wouldn't hurt to hype her up about her newfound independence. Where will she go next? If she's not sure, I'd say we should point her towards the water gym, since Tirtouga and Chinchou should both be able to benefit from the TM, and Chinchou will have type advantage.

(I'm hoping she'll be forced to swim too.)

in the mean time though:
Active quests, in no order:
-Pay off Good Rod
-Go to the temple with Keira, learn about Aura
-Massage Laki
-improve worry seed coffee (I suggest roasting the seeds)
-learn new badge meaning from Jane
-rematch with Polu
-try a contest, see if we like it

And my personal goal:
-learn a recipie from every temple

Did I miss any?
>>
>>1378232
That personal goal is a real goal, fuck anyone that says otherwise.
>>
>>1378236
I mean, it hasn't been declared in-character. I'm planning on submitting it as a write-in next time I see a good opportunity, namely, the next time we visit a temple.

Even then, I'd like to go back to the electric temple and talk to that tea expert. We'll need to bring some sort of knowledge to trade though. Maybe write down some legends from our region? Or a dossier on color theory?
>>
I've been replaying Digimon World (the original for PS1, in all it's bullshit glory). It occurred to me that our island gang would make a fairly good set of digidestined. We can even match up the seven partners from Adventure to them:

-Laki gets Agumon, because she resembles Candela and acts like a gogglehead.
-Jane gets Gabumon because she's a lone wolf type and gets into fights with Laki.
-Val gets Biyomon because... that's what I had left at the end. Can't all be winners.
-Hana gets Tentomon because she's a cyborg, and because the name sounds like "tentacles".
-Keira gets Palmon because she minored in Grass (weak, but hey).
-Polu gets Gomamon because surfing.
-And Herb gets Patamon because he's the cutest, and also the one you least want to piss off.

I'm actually half-tempted to write up a bin for this myself. But that would be effort.

Something to think about, is Misdreavus gonna stay on the ship and end up as Val's or follow Herb and his tasty fear?
>>
>>1378302
Now I want gobble to do a digimon quest...
>>
>>1378409
I really hope it ends up being Herb's pokemon, a Misdreavus sounds like a great fit for his team. Also leaves room for an Alolan Vulpix as the final pokemon for the original 6(and hopefully last pokemon, I don't want to have any of the little darlings away from best boy).
>>
We need a fire type though, I like Litwik, Flareon or a regular Vulpix. I also think Ralts would be cool both Gallade and Gardevoir are cool and so is Mawile.
>>
>>1379981
It wouldn't be stab but we've got Gobbles working on flamethrower right now right? Now I'm not a poke specialist but I'm pretty sure Gobble can also learn Fire Blast if he wanted to right? Is there any other fire moves our mon could learn? What about Scald for Dice?
>>
>>1379998
Scald is water type.

All we really need is fairy, honestly. We might just be able to cover that by fighting the fairy gym and hoping for dazzling gleam.

I'm not actually sure there even are other fairy type TMs.
>>
>>1380025
Yeah I know, just to have a source of the Burn condition though. Also it would have uses out of combat for Herb when he doesn't have easy access to a kitchen.
>>
>>1380025
Fairy we need the most and Ground or Ghost are what I would say would be my second picks as far as coverage is concerned.

I would really love to see a fairy type in the party. Personally I think it's a great match for herb, but people were real against even A. Vulpix when we had the chance. I'm still super sad that cutiefly didn't want to join us. Hopefully we have better luck in the future.

When you consider the main reason for those crests, I think it kind of switches around.

I think Hana is the Friendship crest. She cares, and wants to help whenever she can, but her self-doubt gets in the way, and she needs to learn how to do things for herself as well as for those she loves.

Jane is the Love crest. She loves a lot of people deeply, but is afraid to ever let it show, because she's supposed to be tough, and letting them know would just make her seem weak.

Laki, I think, is actually the Sincerity crest. She let down her country at the biggest stage of them all, but since that, she's made it her mission to never let anyone down for anything, despite thinking that she's a piece of shit. She always speaks her mind, but she needs to figure out a way to be true to herself without worrying about letting everyone down.

Polu is courage, because he has the goofy anime protag way of pushing forward despite any dangers if it's for the good of the crew. He's also a bit absent-minded in a loveable way.

Keira is Purity. You got that one right.

Herb is Hope. Pretty plausible considering the optimism and the plot.

I think Val is actually Light. I can't think of a reason right now, but that's just the feeling I get from her character. Dutiful and honor-bound, if not a bit out of touch.

We don't really have a knowledge waifu.
>>
>>1380455
>We don't really have a knowledge waifu.
YET.
>>
>>1380144
Klefki, Mawile & magearna (although magearna feels quite endgame) are steel fairy pokemon, making them statistically the best defensive pokemon, plus klefki's hidden ability lets it steal items from pokemon it fights, which would be great in a quest. THAT BEING SAID, I have a huge soft spot for mimikyu, it's a fairy & ghost, freak out kiera (we need atleast 1 ghost for this reason alone), and it's actually a pokemon under a rag, so we can fashion it up, plus it's cute

As for the last pokemon, although ice ground (so swinub) would be best offensively, we have totodile who can learn ice moves, so I think a fire ground would be best, meaning numel/camerupt

Atleast if we want to balance/minmax, Otherwise just go with whatever *cough* victini *cough*.
Also I don't think we particularly need a flying type since mace is a superhero
>>
>>1380476
I didn't know I wanted something like this until now...
The choices are already so hard
>>
>>1380476
>>1380505
To be honest, we don't really know much about Valerie other than she likes fashion, likes to be dommed & uses daddy's money. All that private education might have paid off, the whole explore and discover and learn about a new region and get to know the natives could easily be intelligent girl who's been suppressed in private schools with tutors all her life looking for freedom and to ground herself in the real world, not just a rich girl looking for new experiences out of boredom.

I think Valerie could be a low key knowledge waifu. She's not stupid, clearly has emotional intelligence and a good education and upbringing, plus seems to be completely aware of everybody's motives, while being able to talk to herb on a deeper level. If I were to rank waifu's on intelligence, she'd be tied for first with Jane, but since Gobble said Jane is always 2nd unless she knows it's a competition, that'd put Valerie as the most intelligent waifu that we just don't know too well yet.

It's kind of too bad we've not been talking to her much since Laki got her hands on her and now she's sailing for that new competition, we don't really know her too well and I'd like to see some development
>>
>>1380504
I love Swinub, but Herb really doesn't need another SLOW, BULKY, PHYSICAL ATTACKER
>>
>>1380549
Don't you want TEAM GAINZ anon?
>>
>>1380613
Everyone can have gains, I just would like to see more variety in our team for when we face stuff with higher physical defense.
>>
>>1380549
Amen, although to be fair, Dice appears to have two modes.

Derpy love croc and Cold blooded killer
>>
>>1380455
While I can't say I know too much about it, I'd switch Hana and Herb here.
>>
>>1380144
I don't think people were against a vulpix, there was a swinub at stake. The votes for following a set of tracks was split between a couple great options, so that the people against following the tracks won
>>
>>1380549
I suggested numel & klefki/mimikyu, not swinub
>>
I like bulky attackers, but most of all I just want to catch pokemon we have a connection with. Eggs and asking, no snatching them up, you know?

(Come on Rotom!)
>>
>>1380952
I kinda of want Herb to catch a Pokemon that just won't be friends with him and he has to go through trading.

>>
>>1380956
Brutal.

I can see Herb trading a pokemon in a case like, for instance, the pokemon really wants to do battling or competitions at a level higher than we can bring them. But it's hard for me to imagine a case where Herb would catch a pokemon that just didn't like him.
>>
>>1380613
I - I want TEAM GAINZZ, anon
>>
>>1380504
How about a Litwick that Herbs cooks on until it evolves. It can be the Ornstein to Gobble's Smough of the cooking world.
>>
>>1381120
Litwick, Drifloon, Misdreavus, Froslass and Rotom could all be very fun and useful ghost types. They all could help with cooking and Will-o-Wisp.
>>
>>1381152
Misdreavus and Mismagius get Mystical Fire too, which is a fun move
>>
>>1381224
I just really really want that hat witch ghost pokemon super bad. Come on Misdreavus I'm rooting for you and your necklace is fabulous! Alolan Vulpix and Ninetales is just all kinds of great as well.
I could see one and Bella competing against each other to get chosen if we ever got into the contests ourselves.
>>
[Next thread on Saturday. Working on girl talk pastebin currently. I have a big list of things people mentioned wanting t be included/be discussed, but if anything else comes to mind let me know.]
>>
>>1385491
Maybe how Laki feels about Bella? I mean, we the audience see that Bella has imprinted on Laki as her mother figure, but does Laki think that?

What's Laki think about her vision? Either it was prophetic, which would way heavily on her mind, or it was just what she was thinking about a lot, in which case it was already weighing heavily on her mind.

Is Jane fitting in okay? Is she encountering a lite of gate keeping islanders who don't accept her as naitive?

Anything about Keira's exploration of the open world and encountering new viewpoints. I thought her little moment when Pohoa was talking about all the religions he had encountered was really interesting. It makes me really wanna dive into Herb's religion. More of Keira learning expressions. The world is her Cloyster, etc.

I dunno if those things count as girl talk, but they're things I thought of since the last extensive list I wrote.
>>
>>1385491
As long as valerie makes everyone have makeovers (kiera maybe helping with makeup, while she comes up with outfits for them all) and laki Loves it while pretending not to, I'll die happy
>>
>>1385491
Well, there's that Digimon AU... although really that would need a whole quest to itself.
