Might makes right. It is the fundamental truth behind all existence. The weak will always be subjugated by the strong. That doesn’t stop the weak from trying, though. Such conflict is the very embodiment of Khorne. And thus, one of the maxims you live by. The only way you’ll be able to one day defeat Her is by becoming more powerful than she could ever dream. You’ll take what is yours by force, no matter what you have to do in the process.

At the moment, that process involves gathering mortal forces behind your banner. You’ve gathered several large sects of Fleshcutters, hyper-violent gangs that now (thanks to you) bear the Mark of Khorne. In addition, you’ve conquered one of the Tech-Gangs of Desoleum’s Underhive - the Ironmongers. This combined force of Imperial minions is the rock-solid core of a weapon you’ll use to tear down Hive Desoleum bit by bit.

The first step towards that end is in capturing an abandoned manufactorum higher up in the Hive, known as the Shattered Foundry. It will serve as a launching point for all of your forces attempts to bring Chaos to the Hive. The only sticking point is the Sanctionary forces that lie between here and there. You don’t think you’ll have much an issue with them, but their destruction will signal very clearly that you’ve declared open war. There will be many battles ahead. And, hopefully, many skulls and much blood to be offered up in Khorne’s name.

Welcome to Khornette Quest Redux

If you’re a die-hard lover of canon, I suggest you turn away now. Like all things 40k, the gauntlet runs from “worshiping the printed word” to “over the top silliness.” Most of the time it’s somewhere in between. Others it swerves hard to one side and/or breaks this model entirely. You’ve been warned in advance. I do try to keep things fairly reasonable though.

Alternatively, if you’re not at all familiar with canon or want more details on something, just ask! You don’t need to have played the original Khornette Quest to play and enjoy this one. I’m sure someone (or I) will explain any cameos that come up if you’re lost.

All rolls go against a specified characteristic in the style of Black Crusade. You’ll want to roll under the characteristic value in order to pass the check. The more degrees of success (every multiple of 10 counts as 1), the more awesome of a result. A 1 or an 8 is a guaranteed success, and a 100 is a guaranteed failure.

Best of three rolls when it’s called for, with a 1, 8, or a 100 instantly taking precedence. If multiple characteristics are being rolled for each 1d100 counts for its respective test. Any rolls prior to the call for one and those not linking said post will be ignored.

I realize that /qst/ is much slower than /tg/ ever was, but I’d like to keep things moving. Voting windows will be a maximum of twenty to thirty minutes after the first vote. Same goes for dice rolling. As far as quest start time goes, I’ll always begin writing at 8pm EST on Wednesday. I’ll keep posting updates in the thread through Thursday and Friday unless otherwise specified. It really depends on how active you guys are.

That’s it housekeeping-wise for now. Onto the quest!

Some might say that there “ain’t no rest for the wicked.” Those people would be mostly correct. Sitting around doing nothing isn’t productive, nor is it very Khornate. However, due to the manner in which you’re anchored to this plane, it’s pretty much required. The souls you’ve consumed were taken by force, rather than given up willingly in ritual sacrifice. Your usual daemonic regeneration is hampered as a result. It takes much longer to regain your full vitality. Considering how worse for the wear you are, that means you have to rest like a mortal. The good news is that, by the time you awake from slumber some untold hours later, you feel rather invigorated (+11 wounds).

“Ah, you’re awake~” purrs Niazach. You’d fallen asleep in one of the high-backed chairs of the sitting room in the Fleshcutters’ hideout. Apparently Niazach’s remained awake. “You kept grimacing and growling in your sleep.”

Truth be told, you had what would be the human-equivalent of a nightmare. She kept tearing you apart, laughing all the while. But you’ll be damned if you ever speak of it aloud. “I swear if you did anything perverted while I was out...” you warn Niazach.

She waves you off with one of her claws. “I did nothing of the sort. Well… not to you, anyways. One of the Fleshcutters made a pass at me.”

You stare at her blankly. “I don’t even want to know.”

“Of course not! You may have the body of a woman, but you lack any feminine wiles. Such is the fate of all Khornates, I fear.”

“I’m going to pretend I didn’t hear that.”

“Whatever makes the Mistress happy~” She lets your barely-simmering anger stew for a bit, then asks, “Why do you need to rest like that anyways? Is this related to that psyker we went hunting for earlier?”

“In a way,” you reluctantly admit. “My grasp here on the Materium is not what it should be.”

“Ahhh. Well, that makes sense. You probably didn’t have the luxury of arriving here like I did.”

“Right. That whole thing with the leader of the pleasure den. Still seems odd that you let a mortal own you.”

Niazach tuts and wags a claw at you. “It was nothing of the sort! I formed a Dark Pact with Lioba decades ago. In exchange for an ever-lasting hold on her soul, I granted her certain… powers. The use of which corrupted her completely. It was only a matter of time before I would have come bursting out of her on my own.”

You’re not exactly knowledgeable about the finer points of Chaos rituals. As they’re pretty much considered sorcery, Khornates tend to avoid them unless it’s absolutely necessary. A daemonette like Niazach, though, probably knows a great deal. It can’t hurt to ask.

“What do you know about ritual summonings?” you question her.

She looks back at you with what could be considered a shit-eating grin to some. “Oh, a little bit here and there. Why the sudden interest?”

“I don’t like having to sit around, waiting on my strength to recover like some mortal.”

“Ah~ Well, in that case, I’d be happy to tell you what I know. On one condition.”

You already don’t like where this is going. “That being?”

“I get to call you Mistress until the Foundry is ours.”

You really don’t want to encourage her if you can help it. But you think you can bear being called ‘Mistress’ for a day or two. The potential gain in knowledge will (hopefully) be worth the aggravation. “Fine,” you say.

Niazach claps her claws together. As much as one can clap claws, anyways. “Excellent. Let me start at-”

Before she can get going, you cock your fist back and drive it into her face. She and the chair she’s sitting on scrape backwards on the concrete floor about a foot before toppling over backwards. Niazach lets out a loud “Ahn~” as her back arcs. “Thank you, my Mistress. That was your best punch yet.”

Fucking Slaaneshiis.

She rights herself and her chair, then continues, “As I was saying… The main component of any ritual summoning is the sacrifice. It’s what helps bind us daemons to this plane. The brighter the sacrifice’s soul burns in the Warp, the stronger the summoned daemon will be. That’s why cultists try to use psykers whenever possible. As you know, they’re like candy to us.”

You nod in understanding. “Go on.”

“Spending more energy in the ritual also helps. For us Slaaneshiis, that means lots of sex, drugs, and noise. For you Khornates? I imagine lots of blood and skulls. I’m not sure about those cultists worshipping Tzeentch or Nurgle.”

“Alright. What else?”

“Obviously, psykers not involved in the ritual can detect it pretty easily. What you don’t want to happen is them interrupting said ritual. It could fail altogether or only partially anchor you in the Materium. Neither is preferable.”

“So for daemons like you and I, what would it take to summon us somewhere? I mean in terms of skillset and sacrifices.”

Niazach thinks for a moment. “I suppose an Eta or Zeta level psyker would do, to borrow the Imperium’s classification rating. As for skillset… Someone with knowledge of daemonology, either a daemon themselves or a corrupted scholar, would need to know the proper words and symbology. I doubt, for instance, that the Fleshcutters could do such a thing. Not unless I held their hands through it.”

“Wonderful,” you grumble. “So much for bringing Dheuios here semi-permanently.”

“Dheuios?”

“My steed. You know, the beast responsible for destroying Lioba’s.”

“Ah, right. Well, you could always just expend your own energy if you wanted to do it again. I wouldn’t recommend doing it often, though. Not unless you want to end up back in the Warp.”

You shake your head and let silence speak for you. When said silence starts to grow uncomfortable, you…

“Perhaps. They’d have to do it in your name as opposed to Khorne’s though. Dunno how you feel about that. Though I can’t imagine that’d be much of a change. The skulls end up on the skull throne either way.”

>>1340234
You crack your neck, then stand. “Well, I think that’s it for now. Let’s go check on the Fleshcutters and see how their preparations are coming along.”

“As you wish, my Mistress.”

The pair of you leaving the sitting room behind and start to look for a Fleshcutter to accost. In a strange twist of fate (or perhaps a severe strain of bad luck) you run into the same woman Niazach’s grabbed twice already.

“Oh no,” she says, backing up into a wall and trying to make herself look as small as possible. “No no no no no. Not again! Please not again!”

“Look, we just want to check on how things are coming along,” you say as you roll your eyes. “Are we almost ready to assault the Foundry or no.”

“Um. I think? Maybe? We’re still waiting on the contingent from the Ironmongers to arrive. They said they were sending fifteen members our way.”

That’s not quite what you were expecting. “Only fifteen? I can see I’ll have to have a talk with Visimar later.”

“Um. Right. You do that, Ms. Ember. I’ll just um… be going…”

Niazach deftly steps in front of her. “Just a moment. I think by now you might as well tell us your name.”

“F-Feva.”

“Well, F-Feva,” she says, caressing the side of the woman’s cheek. “You’ve been very helpful, as usual. Now run along~”

Feva bolts away before either Niazach or you change your minds. It seems you’ll have to wait just a bit longer until the Fleshcutters are ready.

A rested warrior is a prepared warrior. You’re not sure when you’ll get the chance to take a break like this again. Better to take advantage of it now while you still can. So you return to the sitting room and meditate. Thankfully, Niazach doesn’t join you. That makes the exercise much more fruitful. By the time someone pokes their head into the room and calls your name, you’ve regain all of your vitality (+5 wounds (Now at Max)).

“Ember, there you are,” comes Rikiar’s voice. You open your eyes to see him armed to the teeth. Almost every limb has at least six throwing knives attached to it on a band. Plus he’s now sporting both a chain blade and a chain sword. “We’re almost ready. We just need your approval on our plan of attack.”

“Right, lead me to the War Room then.”

Rikiar takes you back down into the basement where you find all four Blademasters from earlier, plus a Tech-Ganger with three bionic limbs. On the table between them is a map of the Hive. How up to date it is you have no clue. You take up the head position of the table and inquire, “So, what do we have?”

Respa points at several thick red lines that block certain intersections. “Each of these is a Sanctionary checkpoint, specifically designed to keep Underhive gangs like us from getting too far up in the Hive. The shortest path to the Foundry takes us through these five.” He traces a blue line along the streets that doubles back on itself several times. “It’s not the fastest, mind you. That would require us to topple at least ten checkpoints.”

“Which we don’t have the manpower for,” chides Thela. “A full frontal assault would be foolish.”

You scoff at that. “Bah, I can handle ten checkpoints. Can you secure a supply line or whatever once the checkpoints are open?”

“I think so,” says Arius. “Once we have the Foundry under our control, we can use our Consortium-affiliated contacts to keep us well stocked and informed of any Sanctionary incursions.”

It takes a moment for you to recall Rikiar’s explanation about how the Consortium is the true body of power here in Hive Desoleum. They’re a group of houses and factions constantly at conflict with one another, usually via proxies such as gangs and bribed Sanctionaries. If such contacts are reliable, then you see no issue in holding the Foundry once it’s yours. “I see. What about avoiding the checkpoints all together? This is a hive, after all. Surely there must be ways to circumvent them and trickle through to the other side.”

“Not if you want this done quickly,” replies Thela. “We’d have to sneak around in groups of three or four to get by the Sanctionary patrols. It’d take weeks to get everyone up to the Foundry’s level.”

So that idea’s out then. “Then I believe our next course of action is clear. I’ll handle the bulk of the ten checkpoints. The Fleshcutters and Ironmongers can back me up and clear the way behind me. We leave almost immediately. Any questions?”

Arius raises a hand, “Just one. How do you want us to handle any Sanctionaries you leave behind? Kill them? Or take prisoners?”

You shrug. “I leave that decision to you all. I care not which. What matters is that we take the Foundry in the end. If that means we have something to use against further Sanctionary action, then so be it.”

Everyone present looks around at one another. When it seems that there’s no further questions, you clap your hands loudly. “Right. Let’s get this thing done. May Khorne guide your blades.”

Only Arius mutters something back about Khorne. The rest simply nod and trudge off to give their waiting sects orders. That just leaves you with Rikiar, Arius, and the Ironmonger’s representative.

++We shall follow you at a distance,++ says the Tech-Ganger as he looks straight at you. ++We are best suited to provide covering fire to pin the Sanctionaries down.++

“That puts my sect in between Ember and you,” replies Rikiar. “Fine by me.” He looks to Arius. “What about you?”

“We shall follow the flow of battle. If need be, my 150 men can act as a battering ram against a checkpoint. Think of us as cavalry, to borrow an old Terran saying.”

“Let’s get a move on,” you say with an air of finality. All the mortals straighten up, their faces hardening against the coming battle. You lead them outside to find the courtyard and many streets beyond are packed to the brim with Fleshcutters. There’s probably close to four hundred warm bodies at your disposal. Good enough for now.

You summon forth your scythe and use its chain to reel you up to the roof of the hideout. From there you shout down to the crowd, “Khorne smiles upon us all this day! Let your blades drink blood, and your strikes be true! We move for the Foundry!” You give a loud rallying cry, which is mostly answered. You then hop down and proceed to lead the throng up into the tunnels that will take you out of the Underhive and into Hive Desoleum proper. It’s slow going.

“What do you want me to do, Mistress?”

You nearly jump out of your skin as Niazach appears out of the darkness of one of the tunnels some twenty minutes later. “So that’s where you went.”

“A little scouting ahead, yes. Shall I join you on the front lines, or support you with the Ironmongers?”

“That should be obvious,” you say. “Stay in the back with your howler rifle. That way I don’t have to hear your stupid moans whenever you get hit.”

“Oh, but I could moan really loudly so you could hear-”

You sigh and move past her before she can utter another word. Since you’re leading the charge, as it were, you’re the first to arrive at the border of the Underhive and the main hive proper. The demarcation is rather stark in some places, and gradual in others. The common theme is grunge. All of the buildings and streets down here are ill-kept, the dim light only adding to the sense of disrepair. There’s barely any foot traffic at the moment. Though the few that are out and about right now quickly about-face and practically sprint away when they see you and the mass behind you. Smart of them.

You have to stop and get your bearings only once. After ascending about three stories worth of inclined streets, the first checkpoint comes into view. Like the one you attacked during your taking of Asbad’s soul, it’s a vast, grey, metal wall that protrudes into the surrounding buildings. It’s about two stories tall, with two raised watchtowers on either side of the gate. The gate is a portion of the wall that slides back on itself, or so you judge based on the grooves in the ground and on the wall. At ground level there’s approximately eight Sanctionaries in their red, guardsman-like armor. Four more are present in the watchtowers. All of them have shock mauls and stubbers.

Right now you have the element of surprise. But once your attacking force crests over the hill, that will be gone. How do you want to play this?

You opt to go for the classic Khornate approach. That is to say you charge recklessly forward while bellowing a challenge. “Open the gates and stand aside, or face death at my hands!”

The Sanctionaries leap in surprise as their attention very quickly focuses on you. Those on the ground unholster their stubbers and begin unleashing automatic fire at you. As for the four in the watchtowers, they seem to be scrambling to lift something. In any event, the solid projectiles ping off of your skin and armor like spitballs. Seeing this causes the Sanctionaries to fire even more wildly. The bullets fill the air around you, but none do any damage. Well, not to you, anyways. You’re not so sure about the group behind you. But they’re on their own at the moment.

Once you’re within range of your scythes, you unleash a barrage of your own. You start by spinning on your side, somersaulting sideways through the air as your scythes rapidly reach the end of their chains. They scrape along the ground, leaving great gashes as they spin overhead towards the Sanctionaries. They impact right in the middle of the ground-level Sanctionaries, instantly killing two and sending the remaining six flying to either side. When you land, you lash out in great arcs, slicing another two mortals in two.

From behind you, you hear the high-pitched whine of Niazach’s howler rifle. One of the watchtowers explodes a second later. Perhaps not a moment too soon. As the wreckage falls to the ground, you catch sight of what looks to be a heavy stubber mounted to a tripod. That sort of ordinance will damage you if you catch too many rounds.

The longer you leave that heavy stubber unchecked, the more Fleshcutters will be shot dead. This is only the first checkpoint. You don’t want losses here, heavy, light, or otherwise, if you can help it. So you close the gap between yourself and the remaining watchtower. Doing so causes the four ground-level Sanctionaries to drop their guns and go for their shock mauls. But you’re not really worried about those for the moment.

Instead, you fling your scythes up to find purchase on the watchtower. The daemon-forged weapons easily dig into the plasteel. After two test tugs to make sure they will not dislodge themselves when you pull, you put your entire strength into a yanking motion. There’s the sound of creaking metal as the stress builds. Then, with a thunderous snapping sound, the watchtower rips free from its position on top of the wall. It falls on two of the Sanctionaries near you, gutting them as metal debris bends and cracks.

That just leaves two more Sanctionaries with shock mauls. You’re pretty damn confident that they could hit you from now until the heat death of the universe and still never wound you. What should you do with them?

You can’t risk any survivors calling for reinforcements or for aid in general. So far your attack has been so swift and deadly that you’re pretty sure the Sanctionaries haven’t had time to do so. The only sour part of this course of action is that they’re not particularly good skulls to take. For you, anyways. But take them you do with a casual swing of your scythes. Their heads roll off of their necks, spewing blood out like a fountain.

“I thought you were going to leave us some!” yells Rikiar as he comes over the crest of the hill and surveys the damage. “Do you need help getting the gate open?”

“No. I’ve got it,” you reply. You hook your scythes on your back spines to keep them out of the way, then step up to the gate. Using your daemonic strength, you wrench at the metal and…

...begin to force it back along its tracks. It’s somewhat jammed at first, but you easily force it back. Accompanying this motion is a great screech as the plasteel scrapes against the rockcrete street. You’re not especially worried about how much of a racket you’re making. What’s more likely to draw the attention and ire of further Sanctionaries is the gunfire. It’s really a toss up of whether the next checkpoint will go as smoothly.

“There,” you grunt as you finish dragging the gate out of the way. The street beyond is a little bit better kept than the side you’re on. I.e., instead of six potholes per two meters, there’s only three. It’s still pretty bad, but that’s to be expected this low in the Hive.

“Nice work,” Rikiar says as he calls for the group to halt for a moment. “We’ll leave some of our forces here to take control of this checkpoint.”

“See if you can’t recover the heavy stubbers,” you reply. “They aren’t blades but will do a fine job of deterring anyone who approaches.”

“As you wish, Scythe-Mistress.”

He barks an order to his men, and about ten of them splinter off of the main group. They begin scavenging armor and weapons from the dead Sanctionaries and from the rubble. By the time most of your fighting force has moved through the checkpoint, they’ve managed to set up a heavy stubber in the remaining watchtower. From a distance, they might even pass as Sanctionaries.

The next checkpoint is up another hill about twenty blocks away. The street’s wide enough now to accommodate ten people shoulder to shoulder. Which is great, considering before that your 400 troops were basically forced to walk in groups of four. It’s still quite a crowd behind you. Maybe you should use their momentum to your advantage.

Ahh I nodded off. Abstract it is.

Let's do 8d100 vs a 45 and a 55 alternating. The 45 rolls will be how good you are at not getting hit. The 55 rolls are how fast you cleave through the Sanctionaries.

That should at least handle four checkpoints. We'll probably call it a night after the rolls so I don't leave you all hanging while I'm asleep at the keyboard.

The following three checkpoints are much like the first - street-spanning walls with watchtowers, manned by about twelve Sanctionaries. You roll through them like a violent tornado, leaving none alive in your wake. By now the two lane street has become more like a wide highway. Four Rhinos could fit side by side. That means the force behind you can spread out more. Still, your combined group looks like a tidal wave of people rushing higher up in the Hive. People on the street sprint away, businesses hastily close, and oncoming vehicles do an about face. You’re pretty sure the Sanctionaries are aware of your presence now, a hunch that’s confirmed at the fifth checkpoint.

This time there’s three sets of walls. The outers are made of a strong mesh that resembles chain links, while the inner is the classic gray plasteel. There are four watchtowers, all sporting heavy stubbers and four guards with long lases. On the ground there’s close to twenty-four Sanctionaries just on this side of the walls. Their oath-cogs are much larger, and they’ve largely traded out their stubbers for hand cannons. They’re also sporting riot gear of sorts: a transparent shield and an electro-flail. They form up firing lines as you approach.

“HALT OATHLESS SCUM!” booms a voice from a watchtower speaker. “You have one minute to turn around and return to your holes. Otherwise we shall use deadly force to stop this riot here and now.”

“You couldn’t stop a sick grox!” you roar back. “I shall enjoy ripping you all to pieces!”

“So be it! Men, open fire!”

The air fills with solid projectiles and the loud cracks of gunfire. You charge forward, as does your Fleshcutter army. You’re nimble enough to avoid most of the hail of bullets, but the humans behind you aren’t as skilled. You hear cries of pain as gangers fall to the ground, only to be trampled by their fellows. But there’s no stopping this charge now. The weak and injured are on their own.

The two opposing forces meet with a great crash. All around you there’s a flurry of flashing blades and sparking whips while heavy stubber fire rains from above. You let the Fleshcutters handle the ground forces for now. You instead work on bringing down the watchtowers. The first you wrench down with your scythes, and the second you destroy by scaling the wall and turning it and the Sanctionaries inside into many fine chunks. When you leap back to the ground, you see that Rikiar is currently taking on two Sanctionaries by himself. It’s a pretty even match from what you can tell. Admirable. But you can’t stop to watch.

>cont
>>
>>1342522
You quickly rip open the mesh gate and begin to work on opening the larger metal one. When you fling the plasteel aside, you see that there’s another twenty-four Sanctionaries waiting for you on the other side. Again you ignore them to favor the watchtowers. You do feel a few electro-flails slap against your skin as you work. The impacts cause the surrounding muscles to tingle with electricity, but there’s no real harm done. It’s only once all the watchtowers are down that you then turn your scythes on the ground-level Sanctionaries. What’s left of them, anyways. The Fleshcutters might be sporting all sorts of wounds, but that seems to have spurred them on into a frenzy. Limbs and gore fly in all directions, making the streets run red with blood.

From start to finish, it probably takes you ten minutes to get through this checkpoint. Niazach runs forward to join you on the other side. “Do you sense that, Mistress?” she asks.

“Sense what?” you reply.

“There’s a gathering of psykers ahead at the next checkpoint. I can also faintly smell the scent of promethium. Although they’re not far, to smell it from all the way over here means there’s a lot of it. Perhaps a change of tactics is in order?”

Flamers are one thing, but psykers are another. Combined they make for a rather deadly pair. To mortals, at least. You could probably handle things yourself and only get a little singed in the process. It really depends on how powerful the psykers are. Until you know that, though, you’re going to play it safe.

“Move the Ironmongers up,” you order Niazach. “Take out as many as possible so that the rest of us can move forward.”

She nods and starts to sprint away. “As you wish, Mistress.” Only a couple minutes pass before she returns with the fifteen Ironmongers. The humans are all sporting either a plasma gun or a long las with a hot-shot pack. Niazach has her trademark howler rifle. Together, the seventeen of you advance towards the next checkpoint ahead of the rest of the Fleshcutters.

The sixth checkpoint is almost identical to the fifth. The main difference is the composition of guards. For every three Sanctionaries there’s one psyker in Astra Telepathica robes. That makes for a grand total of six psykers. More than half of the Sanctoaries have flamers, while the watchtowers have heavy flamers in lieu of heavy stubbers. Close range combat will be an issue here. But that’s why Niazach and the Ironmongers are up first.

The daemonette and Tech-Gangers form up into several rows of varying height. Then they open fire on the checkpoint. There’s not much in the way of protection for the ground-level Sanctionaries, so they go down hard. As for the psykers, they either dodge out of the way or conjure up ethereal shields. When the firing stops, all six psykers step forward. They hold out their hands like claws, and suddenly bursts of bio-lightning erupt from them. The blue and green bolts streak towards Niazach and the Ironmongers almost faster than the eye can see. Four claim the lives of Ironmongers, while two electrocute Niazach.

“Ha~ Such an invigorating display of power,” she gasps, squirming in place. “More. I want more. Hit me with the full weight of your power!”

You turn to Rikiar as this exchange goes on. “Is there another way around? I don’t want us to get stuck here.”

He thinks for a moment, then replies, “I think if we took a circuitous route, there’d only be one more checkpoint between here and the Foundry. It’d take this lot close to an hour to arrive though. What about the checkpoint here though? Should we send in some Fleshcutters to help Niazach and the others? Or will you be heading in?”

You don’t want your main force to be shredded and immolated if you can help it. So you order Rikiar, “Take the main force around the long way. I trust you can handle a single checkpoint. We’ll meet back up outside the Foundry.”

He nods, “As you wish, Scythe-Mistress.” Several orders are barked back at the Fleshcutter assembly, then they all begin to disappear into alleys and side streets. That just leaves you with Niazach and eleven Ironmongers. They’ve managed to kill one psyker so far, and to pin the remaining five behind metal barricades before the gate. That’s likely to be short lived, though. Psykers are a cowardly bunch. It’s only a matter of time before they unleash another barrage of psychic bolts. But if you don’t handle the watchtowers first, you’ll have to dodge burning promethium.

It’s just jets of fire. What’s the worse than can happen if you ignore it? You’re a daemon, and thus not particularly predisposed to catching ablaze. You’ll be fine. Besides, you’ll only have to “suffer” for about 20 meters before you’re underneath the watchtowers and next to the psykers. Unless the Sanctionaries want to fire on their own, you’ll be safe.

“Keep firing!” you yell to Niazach and her squad. As they do so, you rush forward towards the checkpoint. Almost the same second you get within range of the heavy flamers, great gouts of burning napalm erupt towards you. You’re more than capable of dodging out of the way of the spray. It fizzles on the ground, leaving great scorch marks.

The first 10 meters pass in such a fashion. However, the next 10 aren’t as smooth. One of the psykers peeks up from behind cover and begins to channel his energy. Suddenly, tendrils of Warp energy lash out at you, threatening to drain your vitality with every touch. But you’re a daemon of Khorne. Such trickery won’t work on you. You thusly power through the psychic barrage and close the gap between you and the psykers. Four immediately respond by conjuring a wall of shimmering, unnatural fire between you and them. The other, more specifically the one that tried to use tentacles on you, has his head removed from his shoulders by your scythes.

That just leaves four psykers with fire shields to deal with. No matter how you attack them, you’ll end up facing fiery retribution. But they need to die, quickly.

The psykers’ fire shield might provide a deterrent to direct attacks, but it has no effect on indirect ones. So, rather than strike the psykers directly with your scythes, you fling your weapons up to latch onto a watchtower. Much like the last couple of checkpoints, you bring it crashing down with your daemonic strength. Two of the psykers catch on and dive out of the way. The remaining three are crushed beneath the rubble.

“Together, now!” shouts one of the living psyker as he thrusts out a hand in your direction. His fellow does the same. You can feel the energy gathering within them. You’re not quite sure what’s coming, but it can’t be good. Plus they still have their fire shields.

You’re not about to let some pathetic fire deter you from taking some skulls. You swing your scythes low, bringing the blades straight through the fire shields and up into the psykers’ pelvic areas. The swaths of fire immediately respond by striking at you violently. You get a little singed as a result (-4 wounds). As for the psykers, you yank back on the chains and literally tear them a new one. Their intestines fall out of the gaping wound with a sickening, wet noise. They fall to the ground, gurgling as the life leaves their bodies.

Behind you, you hear a certain high pitched whine. Above you, the remaining watchtower explodes with shrapnel. Silence falls over the field now that all enemy actors have perished. Niazach runs up to you, and as soon as she’s within shouting range she says, “Well that was fun. Personally I would have preferred to get a little fire bath but…”

You kick a flamer that’s on the ground near you. “That could still be arranged.”

“Ooo~ But maybe later. What shall we do now? Keep charging through these ever-increasing barriers? Or perhaps follow in Rikiar’s wake?”

“We press onwards,” you reply, flicking the blood from your scythes.

Niazach bites her lip in worry. “Are you sure that’s wise, Mistress? Who knows what awaits us at the next five checkpoints. If this one was any indication, they’re becoming more and more difficult to conquer.”

“I seriously doubt they’ll have psykers at all of them. There’s no way they have that many psykers just waiting to be called in. Besides, if things get dicey, I can just summon in Dheuios to smash right through.”

“Hm. I see. Well if you insist… I’ll let the Ironmongers know.”

She returns to her squad and relays the orders. One of the Tech-Gangers begins shouting in Techna Lingua at her. Since neither you, nor Niazach, actually speak the language of the Mechanicus, his words are lost on you. But perhaps not their meaning. He finishes his tirade, then turns to begin walking away back towards the Underhive.

Cowards are, by definition, weak. Especially so if they go so far as to desert rather than fight. An example must be made of this Tech-Ganger. One that makes it very clear that you will not tolerate such weakness in your ranks.

With several powerful strides, you close the gap between your quarry and yourself. Then, with a swing of your right arm, you send one of your scythes into the man’s back. He cries out in pain and comes to a stop, dropping to one knee.

“I gave no one permission to leave,” you snarl at him. “If you won’t fight, then you won’t live. That simple.”

++Go to hell,++ he replies.

“So be it.”

You pull backwards on the chain. The Tech-Ganger’s entire spine comes ripping out of his back, instantly killing him dead. You don’t offer up this particular skull to Khorne though. Refuse like that doesn’t deserve the honor.

“Anyone else have something else to say?” you ask, wheeling on the remaining Ironmongers. They very wisely keep their mouths shut. “No? Good. Then let’s get a move on…”

Surprisingly, the remaining checkpoints don’t offer much resistance. Either they were simply not designed to handle a daemonic attack force this high up in the Hive, or the Sanctionaries that should have been manning them decided to bail. It doesn’t really matter to you whatever’s the case. All you care about is tearing a path to the Foundry and leaving a message in your wake.

You kill somewhere in the neighborhood of 60 more Sanctionaries along the way. But not without taking some damage yourself. Some lucky stubber fire catches you at just the right angle so as to embed the bullets into your skin. It’s not hard at all to remove them, but it still hurts (-3 wounds). You also lose another two Ironmongers. Good thing you weren’t expecting them to do much of the heavy lifting.

When you do finally arrive at the outskirts of the Shattered Foundry some thirty minutes after Rikiar left, you see a fairly standard manufactorum. The factory is surrounded by an easily cut chain link fence with barbed wire at the top. If the boarded up windows and thick layer of dust everywhere wasn’t proof enough, this place doesn’t seem to have been visited in a very long time. Come to think of it, you didn’t encounter a single soul in a two block radius out from the Foundry. Whatever rumors surround this place must be pretty damn terrifying to the humans.

“I was expecting something… more,” comments Niazach. “It just looks like a big building with cooling towers.”

You shrug. “Maybe there’s something good inside. Only one way to find out.”

Abandoned manufactorums typically aren’t known for being booby trapped. You doubt you’ll find yourself setting off any traps by going in now. So you cut a hole in the fence large enough to accommodate you and walk towards the building. Now that you’re closer, you can see in the slightly-dim light that the building extends up into the ceiling, which is the next layer of the Hive hundreds of meters above you. There’s several large doors on the exterior which could easily fit an Aquilla Lander, probably used to bring in raw materials and ship out finished products on massive trucks. Patches of green ice linger on the exterior of the cooling towers, even though they don’t seem to have been in use for decades.

You walk up to one of the massive sliding doors and cut off the heavy lock the size of your head. Then you clench the handle and pull it sideways. There’s a rusty sort of creak as the door rolls on its track. You open the door just wide enough to fit a Rhino, then slip inside. It’s about as dark in here as the Underhive was. You can just make out an assembly line that starts with a giant forge, goes through several lines of machinery, then spits out something at the end. What that something is you haven’t a clue. There aren’t any materials currently on the assembly line or in any of the carts you see strewn about.

“Wonder what they made here,” you say to no one in particular. “Anyone found the light switches yet?”

Niazach orders her group of Ironmongers to fan out and search. About five minutes later, great spotlights in the ceiling illuminate. Now that you can see better, you have a good hunch what this Foundry made. You’re no expert in machinery (or forging for that matter), but it occurs to you that this assembly line makes weapons of some sort. More specifically, las guns.

“Huh. So we’ve taken over a las gun plant. I don’t know whether to call that success or an absolute failure.”

“Why not both, Mistress?”

“Because I like to think I’m a realist.”

“I see…”

You continue to explore while you wait for Rikiar and the rest of the Fleshcutters to arrive. It’s a good hour later when the first start showing up. Arius and his immediate retinue walk inside and call out for you in particular. When you find them, Arius says, “Scythe-Mistress, good. I don’t believe any of the Sanctionaries will follow us here. We had a bit of an issue at that checkpoint.”

“An issue meaning… what, exactly?”

Arius frowns. “There were over a hundred Sanctionaries waiting for us. I guess they thought our large group was more of a problem than yours was. We won the day, but Thela and all his men were wiped out.”

“Hah. Good riddance, I say. I would have needed to make an example out of him at some point. At least this way he died in battle.”

“Right…”

You cross your arms across your chest and rescind your back spines. “So, Arius, tell me. You seem to be the defacto leader out of all the Blademasters. What do you really think of your fellows and of Khorne?”

He considers this carefully before answering, “I… probably would agree with you about Thela. He was never happy with anything. He led by fear, not by example. As for Respa and Osuin, they’re decent enough for fellow gangers. I don’t expect them to stab me in the back, and they get their jobs done without complaint. As for Khorne… Well, I’ll say this much - as long as you don’t force us to fight the entire Hive at once, I’ll worship any being that brings us good fights.”

You smile, showing off your fangs. “That’s a fair answer. Just know that the better you worship Khorne, the better you’ll be at fighting. Mortals who rise to greatness and prove themselves worthy of his notice will find themselves gifted with powers unimaginable.”

“I do kinda like the sound of that,” Arius admits. “Perhaps when we have more time you can show me how to properly venerate Him. But ah, here comes Respa and his sect.”

Sure enough, about eighty or so Fleshcutters enter the Foundry led by Respa. He walks up to you, bows, then looks between you and Arius for what to do next. You continue to grin toothily and say, “I want this place secured and turned into a suitable outpost in eight hours. See to it.”

Respa bows once more. “Of course, Scythe-Mistress. Your will be done.”

He relays your orders to his men, who then disperse in groups of two to explore and harden the manufactorum. Arius does something similar, leaving you alone for the moment. You take the time to…

You don’t think you or anyone under you is about to summon anything anytime soon. Still, you feel like you should set up a ritual room, if only so you can have the Fleshcutters properly offer up the blood and skulls of their vanquished foes to Khorne. Though aside from decorating a space with actual skulls and Khornate iconography, you have no idea what’s involved with a proper Chaos ritual space. Niazach might know, so you go to find her.

You find the daemonette on the raised walkway that looks over the entire assembly line. She smiles as you approach. “Hello Mist- Ember. They look adorable from up here, don’t they?” She motions at the Fleshcutters below. By now most have arrived at the Foundry.

“Adorable in what way?” you ask.

“Ah Khornates. Blind to the finer things in life. Look how eager they are. There’s a fire in their eyes, a sense of purpose. Before they were a miserable lot who only saw fighting between themselves and other gangs. Now they have an entire Hive worth of battles ahead of them. And yet, in the end, such a struggle is meaningless. Their lives will go unnoticed by those they worship. Mere specks of cosmic dust.”

You’re taken somewhat aback. “That sounds rather like something I’d expect to hear from a daemon of Nurgle.”

“Perhaps. Excessive despair and its opposite, hope, is still excess. It’s very easy to manipulate mortals if you take the time to figure out how they work.”

“Speaking of which, I was hoping you could help me set up a ritual room. That way we can start properly instructing them in the ways of Chaos.”

“Ah, but of course! We’ll need to find a space about twenty to thirty meters in length and width. The bigger the better. Bonus if it can be segmented into eight equal parts.”

You look down at the manufactorum floor. “Guess we’d better get looking, then.”

Oy vey, that's the wrong kind of worship.
>>
>>1344574
The pair of you spend an hour and the better part of a second looking around the Foundry for a suitable place. The problem you keep running into is the assembly line. It takes up quite a bit of space on the main floor. That leads to tight spaces all around. You think about maybe using a storeroom, but when you poke your head inside one you see that the Fleshcutters are already repurposing it to serve as barracks. No joy there. In the end, the only large enough space you can find is directly in front of the massive kilns used to melt the glass Desoleum is widely known for. Said kilns haven’t been used in decades, but it’s still not ideal.

“I think this is the best we’re going to get,” comments Niazach as you both retrace your steps to the kilns. “It’s open and mostly rectangular. I think if we set up an altar there, before the kilns, and place the ritual circle here…”

You’ve got nothing else better to do, so you help her out. Most of the work is clearing the space of debris and other refuse that’s been left here for countless years. When you’re finished, the area’s practically spotless.

“Good,” says Niazach. “Now for the truly important part. We need to either build or summon an altar.”

“I’m no expert, but summoning sounds a hell of a lot easier than making one from scratch. Besides, there’s not many raw materials around to use aside from corrugated metal.”

“Hm. Well, summoning carries with it risk, as do all rituals. We’re essentially asking all four Chaos Gods to lend us an infinitesimal amount of their power. No offense, but neither of us is important enough to only beseech our own gods.”

“You may have a point. So what exactly could go wrong here?”

She shrugs. “Anything from summoning another Warp entity to tearing the surroundings to pieces. It really depends on the quality of our sacrifice and our own willpower.”

You raise an eyebrow at her. “Sacrifice? I assume you mean one of the Fleshcutters.”

“Indeed. I don’t think there are any latent psykers among them, so it doesn’t matter which we use. Though the more souls we commit to the ritual, the better.”

Hm…

You imagine you can find sacrifices pretty easily. It’s just a matter of asking the Blademasters for volunteers, suicidal fighters, and/or weaklings. While Niazach prepares, you do just that. It takes some back and forth with Osuin, Respa, and Arius, but eventually you gather up eight scroungy-looking humans that seem to be sporting far less scars than their fellows. You herd them back towards Niazach, who’s done quite a bit in your absence. She’s burned the eight pointed star of Chaos into the floor in the middle of the space, with candles at each point. Where she got the candles from you don’t really want to know.

“Ah good,” she says as she looks over the group. “Each of you stand at a point and pick up a candle. Yes, just like that. Now focus on the flame and repeat after me.”

She leads them in a twisted chant in the language of the Warp. That is to say she has them speaking in tongues, as humans would flavor it. You note that while she’s leading them that she’s not committing any energy to the ritual, whereas the sacrifices are. Their energy and life-force begins to drain out of them towards the center of the Star of Chaos. Eight waving tendrils of energy from each of their chests coalesce into a stormy ball that crackles with Warp energy.

At the height of the chant, Niazach calls out, “Now, Ember. Seek out the Chaos Gods blessing! Devote a small part of yourself to call them here!”

You do so, committing a small portion of your own energy (-1 wound) to the ritual along with Niazach. The addition causes the remains of the sacrifices’ souls to be torn from their body. All eight corpses slump to the ground as the miniature Warp Storm rages. It starts to admit a great howling noise, one you’d associate with beings that call the Formless Wastes home. Then, in a great flash of light, the ball explodes in a great cloud of smoke.

You’re sent sliding back a good meter before you catch yourself. Looking up, you see that something has formed within the remnants. At first you think it’s an altar, but then you start to realize that the shape is humanoid. The smoke clear, and you find yourself looking upon something that you only barely knows exist. It’s a daemon, skin and scales colored black and white, with three sets of arms and two tails. In all, that makes eleven endpoints on its body. There’s no doubt in your mind - this is a being of Malice.

“Daemons of Slaanesh and Khorne,” it says in a thunderous voice. “Your pleasure and pain, your blood and skulls, shall be denied to you. You shall die here in the name of the Renegade God!”

Welp.

It'd be cool if they could toss the demon in a kiln and activate somehow like with magic. Or it'd just be cool to me if they used the kilns for something like killing sacrifices. I only just saw this quest/story yesterday and skimmed and I did see it said the machinery hadn't been used in decades. I'm just thinking of Van Damme kicking a dude into a furnace in Death Warrant.

Followers of Malice are hellbent on upon shedding the blood of other creatures of Chaos. They delight in disrupting Chaos’ plans, even though it’s antithetical to Malice’s existence. Without the Ruinous Powers, Malice wouldn’t exist. It leeches and grows in power only when the main four Chaos Gods do. Hence the gap between what its followers do and what would allow Malice to gain power.

What matters to you is that beings and followers of Malice are pretty much kill-on-sight. No exceptions. Not that you were expecting any of your words to accomplish anything. The only language you’ll need is that of violence as far as this daemon is concerned. So you summon forth your scythes and lash out at the daemon before you. The blades scream through the air, flung in such a way so that they’ll pincer attack from both sides. Your aim is true, as is your strength. But before the scythes find sinew to tear into, the daemon of Malice summons four short swords, two for both the top and bottom sets of hands. They parry your attack, hooking their own blades into the crux of yours. A testing tug on your scythes’ chains doesn’t free them.

“A Khornate using a weapon with range?” sneers the daemon of Malice. “My how the mighty have fallen. What happened to that lust to bathe in the blood of your enemies?”

“Oh don’t worry,” you snap back. “That hasn’t changed in the slightest. I shall take your skull and twist your soul into servicing me.”

The daemon bears its fangs and pulls back on its swords. You’re dragged about two centimeters forward as a result. This thing is strong, and agile to boot. You’ll need to be careful about how you approach it.

Of course, nothing ventured, nothing gained. Spending too much time analyzing the daemon’s movements won’t get you far. You’re still going to be somewhat cautious, but not as much as a rookie warrior might be.

You give the chains another tug. When you’re satisfied with the fact they’re not going anywhere, you leap at the daemon and use the momentum from the retracting chains to speed you onwards. So it is that you practically soar at the daemon, right leg outstretched in a flying kick. It doesn’t move out of the way in time. Instead, your taloned-foot strikes it square in the navel. You can hear the breath being knocked out of it and what might be the sound of a rib cracking. But before you can feel even a tiny bit satisfied, you’re grabbed by the daemon’s free set of hands. It grips your ankle tightly, then flings you away like a ragdoll.

Luckily your scythes come with you. You twist in the air, landing on all fours as your claws dig into the manufactorum floor and kill your velocity. The daemon rounds on you, only to have its head knocked to the side from a well-placed shot by Niazach.

“Two on one? So much for that Khornate honor,” it taunts. “Or is the little daemon afraid she can’t win on her own?”

You shout at Niazach, “I do not require your help. Go and get the Fleshcutters so that they may see what a true fight is like.”

“Are you sure?” she asks back.

You simply growl in the way of a reply. Niazach shrugs, holsters her howler rifle, then sprints off to gather the Fleshcutters. In the meantime, you slowly circle the Malice daemon. It doesn’t follow you with its head, as if to arrogantly say that it doesn’t matter what angle you rush at it from.

“Just the two of us now, Khornate,” it says. “No one to save you from being torn to pieces.”

“Words are weak. Much like your sword arms.”

“Come then. Let us see just how weak my arms truly are.”

Rather than rush in like a typical Khornate, you carefully stare at the daemon, sizing it up. Those four swords it has makes discerning an opening that much more difficult. But you think you see one. All three of its right arms are just a tad bit smaller than its left. It stands to reason that the right side will be weaker. So you bellow wordlessly and sprint at the daemon.

You close the distance between the two of you in under a second. As you prepare to cleave downwards, you realize that the daemon’s already moving to strike at you with its left blades. But the attack is too slow to be of any concern. You easily dodge out of the way by stepping back and slapping the swords aside with your scythes.

Now that you’re in melee combat with it, you…

...temporarily banish your scythes in order to summon forth the flamer you picked up earlier. As soon as it’s solid enough to grip, you thrust the business end towards the daemon’s head. You depress the trigger, send a spray of flaming promethium at it. Unfortunately, it seems the being of Malice was expecting something like this. It swerves to the side and the burning napalm passes harmlessly by.

“Resorting to using mortal weapon now? How desperate of you.”

“Shut. UP.

“Still, we should change that mentality…” Without warning, the daemon reaches out and tears the flamer from your grasp. It then tosses it into the air and slices it to pieces with all four blades. Bits of hot metal and liquid promethium rain down over the pair of you. So much for that idea.

You’d be lying if you said you weren’t even a little bit miffed about losing that flamer. Who knows what possible foes it could have incinerated? You channel that burning rage into the rest of your body. As the energy flows through you, you leap at the Malice daemon. Somehow you’re able to get under its guard. You don’t waste even a nanosecond in summoning your scythes and swinging at one of the daemon’s six arms. However, your scythes don’t quite dig as deep as you like. They’re rebuffed by the four blades, so that you only tear open a long gash from shoulder joint to elbow in a white arm. Jet black blood bubbles out of the wound, but the daemon doesn’t seem to mind all that much. In fact, it now tries to flay you alive.

The muscles of the two black arms on the left tense and ripple as they brandish dual swords. Seeing the flourish, to put it simply, pisses you right the hell off. So when the blades come whizzing at you, you parry with full force. What happens next surprises the pair of you. The serrated edge of your scythe tears into the metal swords with such force that the latter’s entire length shatters. That’s two weapons down and two to go.

Speaking of which, the opposite side’s white arms swing at you. You again meet the attack with your scythes, but one of the blades slips through your parry. It scratches you across the stomach, drawing crimson blood across your already red skin. You’ve had worse injuries (-2 wounds). But the hit seems to embolden the daemon of Malice more than it’s affected by the loss of two blades.

“Do you feel that?” it says in a menacing tone. “It’s the first of many cuts. I’ll tear you apart. Slowly. Agonizingly. In front of all your little minions.”

You’re suddenly aware of the fact that a very large circle of Fleshcutters has run up to watch the fight. You don’t know how long they’ve been here for, but they’re all looking between you and the Malice daemon trying to figure out who to root for. Perhaps that’s natural for mortals. Though you’d love nothing more than to beat some sense into their heads. Unfortunately you don’t have the time for it at the moment.

An idea occurs to you. It’s deliciously tempting considering the loss of your flamer. What better way to enact vengeance than by burning this Malice daemon alive in one of the kilns? So you yell to the Fleshcutters, “Get the kilns going! Now!”

Thankfully the humans don’t need to be told twice. The ten or so nearest to the control panel begin hastily trying to bring the three massive kilns to life. In the meantime, you continue to make sure the daemon is busy. It might be your imagination, but it seems slower than usual. You’re more than capable of deflecting its blows, while also dishing out a few of your own. In fact, you even sever the lone white arm on its left midway up the bicep. You then proceed to dismiss one scythe to grab the spinning arm and beat the daemon over the head with it. Meanwhile, the Malice daemon desperately tries to fend you off with strikes from the right.

Suddenly there’s a great roar as the jets within the kilns awaken. They vomit great gouts of fire that are so intense you can even feel it from thirty meters away. It’ll take a bit for the kilns to reach optimal temperature, but maybe you don’t have to wait…

Fuck that noise. You’re going to make an example out of this Malice fuck. He doesn’t get to die until you’ve thoroughly embarrassed him. You start by throwing its arm back into its face. It smacks against its nose with a sloppy wet sound, splattering black ichor everywhere. It reaches up and tears the limb away, its eyes flaring in anger.

“This is not-” it tries to say, only to be cut off.

You deliver a powerful roundhouse kick to the side of his head. So powerful, in fact, that it literally lifts the daemon off its feet and sends it spinning. As it does, you lash out with your brass-tipped tail. The whip-like strikes slice open the Malice daemon’s wrists so deeply that you strike bone. This causes the daemon to lose its grip on its remaining two blades. Then, right as it’s about to land, you perform the Hyakuretsukyaku. Or, as it’s more commonly known, the Lightning Kick. Your leg turns into a red blur as it delivers blow after blow into the daemon’s body, keeping it in the air.

You lose track of how many times you hit it. You only know that when you finally let it hit the ground, it’s covered in great gashes and bruises, not to mention several broken ribs and arms. Your surroundings go quiet (save for the kilns) as the Fleshcutters look on with awe.

One minute passes. Then another. Just when you think the daemon of Malice isn’t getting back up, it begins to stir. Before it can rise, you…

...actually walk over and help it stand. It glares back at you as it sways on its feet. Then, with one great thrust, you plunge your right claws into its chest. You go right past the sternum until you have a firm grip on the daemon’s still beating heart. The daemon mouths something wordlessly, clutching at your arm with all five of its remaining hands.

“Die in His name,” you snarl. You then rip it out of its chest, coating your front with midnight-colored plasma. The heart beats several more times, then goes limp. As for the daemon, its body falls back to the ground like a puppet that’s had its strings cut.

“Niazach,” you say. “Come here.”

She bounds up from an unseen spot among the Fleshcutters. Her eyes are practically sparkling. “Yes, Ember?”

“Hold this.” You deposit the heart into her claws. Then you kneel down over the body of the Malice daemon. You begin to methodically rip it limb from limb, taking great pleasure in utterly eviscerating it. It’s not until you’re left with naught but a torso and coated from head to toe in black blood that you stand.

You reach out for the heart and take it from Niazach. “Thanks. Use this.” You nudge the mangled corpse with your feet. “As raw material for an altar. I’m sure there’s enough in the forge here to make that happen.

“At once, Mistress~”

You let that slip of her tongue slide since you’re in a good mood. You turn to the assembled Fleshcutters and raise the daemon heart above your head. “This is what it is to be one of Khorne’s children,” you shout. “Sear this fight into your mind and heart. For one day you too will have the chance to claim such glory in His name!”

A loud, positive cry comes from the crowd. Then they begin to disperse. For the time being, you wait until Niazach’s done reforming the Warp energy that the Malice daemon was composed of. As you do, your skin absorbs the Malice blood. It fills you with a strange sense of purpose. You didn’t think you could hate Her any more, but somehow this sensation sends your loathing to a new height (+5 to all rolls in combat against a daemon).

It takes Niazach about an hour to finish forging an altar. Like the daemon it was wrought from, it’s black and white in color. It’s shaped into the Star of Chaos at the top, with an anvil-like bottom. “Will do this do?” she asks. “If there’s any changes you want, I need to know before tempering it.”

You give it a look over, then nod. “That will do nicely. I plan to offer up this as soon as it’s ready.” You wiggle the heart between your claws.

“Ooo~ Sounds delightful. Give me another fifteen minutes.”

>cont
>>
>>1347421
Sure enough, she’s back after the aforementioned time. She places the altar at its spot at the head of the ritual area, then steps back. You walk up, deposit the heart upon it, and offer it to Khorne. Almost immediately, there’s a blinding red flash. When you can see again, the heart’s gone. In its place is a brass collar, cruelly spiked and engraved with the sigils of the Blood God.

“My, now that’s interesting,” muses Niazach. “Never thought I’d see a Collar of Khorne up close.”

You instinctively know that this Chaos artifact is granted only to those favored by Khorne. One it’s donned, it can never be removed. At the same time, it protects the wearer from psychic assaults or other such cowardly sorcery. A very important resistance to have considering the type of foes you’re likely to encounter in the future. So you pick the collar up and put it on silently. It locks in place with a loud click, then fuses against your skin like a choker.

“Aw…” moans Niazach. “I was hoping you might use that on me~”

“Never,” you growl at her.

So yeah. Good stuff. Hopefully you all had fun. We'll pick things back up on Wednesday the 12th. In the meantime, I have a further few questions to go along with the earlier ones (>>1343478):

1. How do you all feel about long bouts of travel time? There was a lot of it in the original quest that I never really got feedback on. Would it be better to just have Ember summoned to each new place of battle?
2. What enemy do you want to face more than anything aside from Her?
3. How do you like Niazach now that her character's fleshed out a bit more?
4. Can anyone ever replace Best Bird?
>>
>>1347478
how about we play as Niazach in a side story in the future?
>>
>>1347478
1. Eh, if it's interesting travel time sure.
2. Grey Knights or something similar. A Titan? Maybe an Avatar.
3. Slaneeshi are all degenerates.
4. No.
>>
I'd have something to add but this was my first thread.
>>
>>1347523
Glad to have you all the same!

>1. Good for social time, but best birb cut social opportunities short because of MUH plans and shit. That and dice was too stronk. I wanted to see if Tigurius (Mr. Blank) would be Cinder's husbando
>2. What enemy do you want to face more than anything aside from Her?
>3. she's.....i dunno rather plain.
>4. An acceptable substitute could be a prodigal psyker shota who is an insomniac with a fetish for dice and worships Tzeench. He seeks Ember because his future view tells him cuddling up with her is the only way he can actually find decent sleep.

>1. How do you all feel about long bouts of travel time?
I dunno.
You have to remember that this is a Quest, it is run by a DM. The DM will typically level-scale everything so we have a reasonable challenge.
That means, if we spend 6 months on a ship to fuck knows where, we won't be overtaken in power by the things we're trying to beat. They won't complete their goals before we reach them.
On the other hand, this also means that if we train our asses off and acquire shitloads of phat lewt to pump our stats to great levels, the DM will just drop a bigger statblock in our way, and we won't be any more powerful than our opponents.

The biggest hazard of the passage of time (i.e. the shit you DIDN'T get done) is thus anulled.
It doesn't much matter how time passes, then. We'll go through a series of encounters, each of which is tough-but-winnable.
The circumstances may change of course but ultimately we might as well be hopping back and forth through 20 different unconnected timelines for how little the passage of time affects us.

So, time does not matter.
But what DOES matter is being given lots of nifty new tools to play with, that interact in complex ways.
Ways to fight smarter, not harder. Ways to make the rules interact in ways the DM doesn't expect, and outsmart the DM to beat encounters.
That's really what this quest is, anyway. DM gives us a challenge, we break it by being clever.
Either that or we roll dice at it but that does not require sentience. If this quest was only about dicerolling the DM wouldn't need players.

>2. What enemy do you want to face more than anything aside from Her?
Enemies that give the players opportunities to do clever things and outwit the encounter in unexpected (but rewarding) ways.
Enemies that drop interesting items that interact in abusable CR-breaking ways that aren't apparent at furst.

>3. How do you like Niazach now that her character's fleshed out a bit more?
She needs a flaw.

>4. Can anyone ever replace Best Bird?
Dunno

1. Time doesn't matter in the warp in the first place. What harm could time travel do to a daemon?
2. Necrons! It's one of the only enemies Cinder hasn't fought. Tau as well.
3. Still curious as to her motivation, but I like the dynamic with Ember.
4. We'll see.

Maybe we'll meet the Malice daemon again. Maybe under a different form, who knows. Kind of wish we did get a name now, but I had to sleep.
>>
>>1347421
Oh we are getting corrupted by Malal. Cool.
>>
>>1347478
1 If we got our own ship like Cinder, I wouldn't mind. Downtime for fun shenanigans is always a nice time.

2 Tau, so we can steal/corrupt a Riptide with a plasma flamer (the exact variant I can't remember) and maybe Necrons.

3 she's fun, maybe give her a little more development since we have a little downtime. I wonder how she would react to learning about Cinder?

4 Never ever. Best Bird will always be best bird. Doesn't mean you can't make fun and memorable characters though.
>>
>>1347847
A wait, 'travel time not 'time travel'.
oops, ha ha.
>>
the best bird tastes good cooked
>>
>>1347901
nope
>>
Hm. I'm not well-versed in Tau shenanigans, but I suppose I've got time between now and whenever they might show up. IIRC, they can't be corrupted because they don't have souls or something silly like that. Right?
>>
>>1348288
They do have souls, but its not as strong as humans and eldars. As a result they are generally ignored for the tastier humans of which there is no shortage of. Also, their FTL skims the warp, popping in and out of it, unlike Impirium FTL which straight up dives in and doesn't come out until it reaches its destination. So they risk demonic incidents much less as well.
>>
>>1347565
2 the tau because THEY ARE COWARDS WHO DO NOT GO IN TO MELEE!
>>
>>1348527
I think stealthsuits would be more problematic to khornate doctrine.

>>1348288
Those battlesuits and the tech in general are ripe for possession and corruption.
>>
>>1348715
Seriously, we need a Riptide! Think of all the stupid crazy daemon stuff we could add to it on top of their already insane arsenal!

https://1d4chan.org/wiki/Battlesuit#XV104_Riptide_Battlesuit
>>
>>1348527
They're no less inept at melee than those grubby humans we've taken on.
>>
>>1348288
If we can get them cut off from an Ethereal, they could be converted rather than corrupted.

Can Niazach get a hold of Tau pheromones, or do the Slaaneshis lack a bazaar?

I kinda want to get this mentality out that having a single Riptide is "OP". It's not. They're the Tau's TEQ. It's fair if they can have one if you bring some Termies or a Land Raider. If they bring multiple and in the Wing, then yes that is pretty cheesy.

Also Kroot are shit. They're just expendable meatshields. Having a whole army oriented around them would be incredibly boring. If Tau auxiliaries had the same love that Genestealers then that would be fine.

A "fun" army to play against is something that tries to bring all the neat units into the battle in a combined arms fashion. Not just spamming any one single unit. A good Tau player would know that some well supported fire warrior unit is a cheaper and arguably better source of anti infantry fire power than the other units.

I'm so tired of hearing non Tau players complain about "muh Battlesuits or muh Riptides" They're there in the codex, they have a purpose, just like the FWs.source then any of the battle suits. Just because you get butthurt at the cheesemongers doesn't mean that the other Tau players have to stop using a particular unit. Quit bitching.
>>
>>1348732
That would be outside of Niazach's purview

I'm so tired of hearing new quest players complain about "muh Bloodbath or muh Best Bird" They're there in the archive, they have a purpose, just like the QMs.source then any of the bloodletters. yes but at least they will fight in melee unlike the tau who just shoot people down before they get close!

I just want to see Ember order Niazach to make herself a collar since she's keeping the Khorne one.

Also I'd rather see her briefly ride a little Palanquin of Nurgle than get a Riptide.
