/qst/ - Quests

In a time of global conflict, the elite international task force Overwatch was formed. Soldiers, scientists, adventurers, and oddities: together, they ended the Omnic Crisis and restored peace to a war-torn world. For a generation, the heroes of Overwatch protected the world, inspiring an era of exploration, innovation, and discovery.

After many years, Overwatch became troubled, and was finally disbanded by official U.N. order. Soon world conflict and terror rose again. Governments weakened by strife ceded power to mega-corporations. Militaries were replaced by private security forces. Some omnics returned to war with humanity; others remained peaceful, but faced fear and violence from humans affected by the war. The global crime syndicate Talon, in the absence of their perpetual rivals, rose to vast wealth and power, pushing entire nations into chaos.

You are a young man who's been many things: adventurer, treasure hunter, freedom fighter, and international criminal. But before all that, you dreamed of helping defend the world with Overwatch. When you encountered Tracer on that fateful night and agreed to help her rebuild, you didn't quite realize what you were getting yourself into. Joining as the first new recruit of the reborn team, you soon found yourself as unofficial leader in coalition with Athena, apparently the world's only benevolent Mind.

In the weeks since then, you, Tracer, and your new friends have travelled the globe, recruiting former agents and newcomers to the cause, and doing what you can to protect the citizens of Earth. Overwatch is doing what it can to ward off the forces of chaos, oppression, and war. But can one small group of vigilantes really protect everyone?

The world needs heroes. All you can do is try to be one of them.

The Orca races through the night above the moonlit dunes of the Sahara. The sand of the vast desert below is a deep blue under the silver half-moon. It's a beautiful view, even if it's a little hard to concentrate on anything with these butterflies fluttering around your stomach.

"Athena, any change in the situation?" you ask, swiveling in the co-pilot's seat to look at the monitors.

"I am afraid not," says the Mind, her logo on your screen glowing. "The hacked omnic patrol is still moving further into the city, attacking civilians and property. Law enforcement response has been ineffective."

"And you still haven't figured out what they're doing here?"

"Still analyzing."

"Maybe this is what Anubis wants?" you say, thinking out loud. "Just to cause chaos and destruction?"

"That's really more Talon's thing," Tracer says in the pilot's seat. "Godminds are chessmasters. They don't usually do things without a reason."

"True, but Anubis is still fragmented, right? Maybe he isn't thinking clearly."

"I see your point," says Tracer. "Still, it don't matter. We have to get down there and save those people, and worry about that stuff later."

There's still a little time before you arrive in Abidjan.

"Does this remind you of the war?" you ask Tracer.

"Starting to," she says, and sighs. "It's so frustratin', Seeker. We should be able to have peace with the Omnics. Now this patrol has been hacked, people are gettin' hurt, and it's all gonna set human-Omnic relations back who knows how far. Why is Anubis such a wanker? He's gonna ruin everything."

"I don't think anybody knows why the Godminds are such jerks," you say. "If they weren't, humanity would have saved itself a lot of trouble over the years. Present company excluded, of course."

"I'm not offended by comparison, Seeker," says Athena. "But thank you."

>>1334539
>>1334562

"I know you're still not sure, Athena, but what's your best guess on why Anubis is here and now?"

"A fragment may have gained enough self-sufficiency to spontaneously manifest sentience. I suspect it then assimilated the nearest combat-capable machine life."

"How can we stop it?"

"Most of the world web's security measures are still holding. The infection can still only transfer itself through close proximity wired link. Destroying all assimilated frames should delete this particular fragment."

"Okay, so destroy the bad robots, destroy the fragment. Got it. And there's no way to save the infected Omnics?"

"No."

Tracer says, "Human programmers can't help much where Omnic minds are concerned. Still haven't figured out a way to get 'em back to their original selves."

Covertly, when Tracer isn't looking, you try to contact Pharah. She doesn't answer. Maybe she and her squad at Helix Security are already mobilizing. You imagine her suiting up in some Helix hangar, armoring herself with the distinctive blue of the Raptora IV, pulling her hair back as she prepares to don her helmet. The the same way she used look when she was putting on her motorbike helmet.

You shake that memory off. Really not the time. You've got other things to worry about right now.

"Let's figure out a plan of attack," you say. "We might have to change it once we hit the ground, but let's try to be ready with something anyway. We've got a pretty good mix of fighters with us, let's try to use that to our advantage."

"I'm guessin' Hanzo will want to sit in the back shootin' his bow," says Tracer. "Last I checked, arrows didn't make good melee weapons."

"True. And we'll want Mercy protected in the back lines as well, to keep us alive. As for the rest of us ..."

"When we're out there, just do your thing on the flanks," you tell Tracer. "Harass the other guys, stop them from doing the same. I'll ask Mei and Winston to run interference for Hanzo and Mercy, or anyone who gets in trouble."

"What about you?" she asks.

You shrug. "Somebody's got to take the front."

That, and if you're going to be a leader, you feel like you better start acting like one. Maybe this is a good way to do it.

"Are you going to be okay out there, putting yourself out in front of everyone?" asks Tracer with concern. "No offense, but compared to someone like Winston or Reinhardt, you're not exactly, um. Durable."

"I'll be fine," you say, trying to believe it. "If I get in over my head, Winston can jump-jet in and protect me while I get back to Mercy."

The white towers and glittering spires of Abidjan reveal themselves on the horizon ahead. As you get closer, you start to see the wide fields of greenery separating the buildings, and the thin, curving highways conveying high-speed automated cars from one district to another.

You say, "Hard to believe that in the 20th century, Africa was the continent that struggled with poverty and pollution and such, and places like America and England were still on top."

"Ain't it, though? Supposedly the Middle East was one big war zone for most of the century. Now they've got Oasis and all the others. London, well ..." Tracer sighs. "You saw for yourself she ain't what she used to be. She's gettin' there, but it'll take a while. And the rest of England, well, there ain't many of those quaint little country villages left, I'll tell you that much."

Tracer seems awfully optimistic about Omnics for someone whose homeland was half-destroyed by them, you can't help but thinking. Guess it's just who she is. She can't help but hope for the best in people -- or robots.

The African nations, overall, feel the same way. The science-metropolises act as sanctuaries for Omnics run afoul of prejudice, turning their back on hatred and choosing to believe in peace and harmony.

Of course, sometimes that belief comes back to bite you in the ass. Like right now.

"Situation update," says Athena. "Half the patrol has split off. They are attacking a corporate research facility. Corporate security forces have engaged and are defending."

For a moment, you're tempted to say, okay, sure. No problem. Let the corporate serfs and corrupted robots kill each other. The old you would've done that in a heartbeat. But you're trying to be something more than that now. Maybe that guy -- the guy you're trying to be -- wouldn't do that.

"Is the other half of the patrol still attacking civilians and blowing stuff up?" you ask.

"Confirmed," says Athena.

"Take us down near the group attacking civilians," you say. "Protecting them is our top priority, and corporate guards are in a better position to defend themselves. Try to land near them, but not right on top of them. We'll take a moment to set up, then attack."

"You got it, mate." Tracer tilts the flight stick, and the Orca starts to turn and descend. "Coming in for the landing in just a minute. Why don'tcha go tell the team the plan?"

You head down the stairs. The Orca is a pretty huge difference from the Aurora. For starters, it has stairs!

You look around as you enter the main room in the body of the craft. Compared to the cramped Aurora passenger compartment, this is something else. There's a conference table in the center with a hologram of Earth. Another table with bench for relaxing with a coffee maker, some books, and a poster of D.Va. Some joker even installed a basketball hoop already. This is pretty nice! If you're going to die trying to save people from murderous robots, at least you have a comfy ride to your death.

You look around at the rest of your team, waiting for the oncoming battle, each showing their own mix of courage and fear, discipline and excitement. Winston and Mei are anxiously going over last-minute adjustments to her endothermic blaster. Mercy looks composed, but you can see she's gripping her Caduceus staff tightly. Hanzo appears to be meditating.

"All right, team," you say to everyone. "Things look pretty clear cut today. Two objectives, in this order: protect the civvies and eliminate hostiles. Our number one priority is to keep those people safe, but with that accomplished, the bots are the targets. A fragment of Anubis is loose inside them, and spreading. The good news, though, is that from what I've been told, killing them all will destroy the fragment. So let's take them down. We can't afford to leave any of them standing.

"Athena tells me half of the bots have assaulted a corporate facility, so I guess our bonus objective is to figure out what the hell they want. Maybe the corps have something useful in there. But that's extra. Focus on keeping those people down there -- and yourselves -- safe from harm.

"Mercy, Hanzo, keep yourselves clear and do your thing in the back. Winston, Mei, anyone tries to mess with them, you mess right back. Tracer's going to be on our flanks, keeping them secure."

Winston asks, "Where will you be?"

You unhook your weapon. "Right where I wanna be."

The gorilla chuckles. "I should have guessed. This is my first field mission in a long time, but I'll do what I can to protect you."

"M-me too," says Mei. "I-I don't know if I'll be much help, but i'll try."

Hanzo nods gravely. "My arrows will aid you."

Mercy smiles and says, "We'll be right behind you, Seeker."

The Orca lurches slightly as the landing gear strikes the ground.

Athena says, "Attack commences in thirty seconds."

The side door of the Athena opens, and you're first out the door onto the streets of Abidjan. The chaos hits you immediately. The city's usual sterile whites and steel greys and lush greenery are joined by the red of flame and the dark pillars of smoke. Screaming voices and alarms shriek through the air, punctuated with explosive bursts of noise from automatic ballistic weapons and, sometimes, an explosion.

A squad of frames rounds the corner nearby and advances down the street. Basic bipedal robots created to wield weaponry and armor designed for humans without those pesky inconveniences like sleep or hunger. These three hold rifles at the ready, and even at this distance you can see their optics flickering red with the glow of Anubis' corruption.

Right in front of you is a civilian woman, cowering behind cover from the robots' view. Any moment now, they'll see her. So you don't give them a moment.

Dashing forward, a flick of your wrist turns your gun into a blade, and the magnetic charge surges across its length. The Omnic patrol turns toward the sudden movement, level their rifles, and open fire, but you throw yourself into a powerslide skid like a 20th century rockstar, only with a sword instead of a guitar. You slash the nearest Omnic as you slide past, and your blade that cuts through the Titanium-70 of the Omnic's armor like a medieval breastplate.

You're about to think of something to deal with this third one, when a huge white and grey shape descends from above. Winston's weight smashes the frame to pieces, scattering armor and machine components. "Excuse me for ... dropping in."

"Thanks, big guy," you say, then turn to the civilian woman. "Hello, miss. We're--"

She sprints away from you, screaming.

You watch her run. She might've been more scared of you and Winston than the killer robots. Well, she's running in the opposite direction from the explosions and gunfire, so at least she's safe.

West is a group of civilians, huddled in terror behind vehicles and building corners.

North, in front of you, is a big atrium, maybe a shopping center or office lobby, you don't know. You can just make out through the glass walls people running in fear. One of the glass panes shatters from bullet fire.

To the East, another squad of three corrupted frames advances north along a street.

"Shall I scout for us?" asks Hanzo.

"Okay, yeah. See what's going on over there in the garden," you say, pointing "Looks like just people hiding, but maybe not. What are you, uh, planning to--?"

Hanzo pulls out an arrow with a small device at its tip and looses it in an arc at the garden. "We shall see through the dragon's eyes."

"Adding sonar data to heads-up display," says Athena in your helmet's earpiece. "Blue friendly, green civilian, red hostile." People appear in silhouette on your display, as though you can partially see through walls in an area around the arrow's landing site. All of the silhouettes are green.

"That's a handy trick," you say to Hanzo. "Some kind of sonic arrow?"

"Another secret passed down by the Shimada clan," he says.

"Okay, well the garden looks clear, just civilians."

A quick look around reveals the robots to the east have advanced north. Screams come from the atrium ahead of you.

Problem was that we split ourselves too much, failed to provide proper support to those who were going solo, and overextended.
Torbjörn got shut the fuck down by Widowmaker sniping on her and having nobody to help shield him while he turreted.
Which then resulted in having us go run back to him and waste time while the bomb was ticking, and let Widowmaker get off more pot shots at us until we could intercept them.
Then Genji tried chasing Widowmaker down solo when Widowmaker could've easily just been around to aggro them into a trap, which it was but by a couple of Junkers we weren't expecting to be here.

>>1335204
>>1335207
My plan is to let the ones going solo be within range for support if needed.
>>
>>1335217
>>1335218
Ok yeah, I forgot the stupid have Genji chase Widowmaker.
>>
I'll narrow it down a bit according to the results I see so far:

West: Tracer
North: Mei, Mercy, Winston

Seeker will either accompany Tracer west to the Garden rescue civilians, or go north to investigate the disturbance in the Atrium (hint: it's robots). Hanzo will do the other one.

I have to wrap up for tonight here, but I'll be back tomorrow. So I'll let you discuss what scene you'd like to see: dialogue with civilians, or robot slicing.

Thanks for playing, and be sure to tune in tomorrow for more of the mission.
>>
>>1335227
Seeker should go North and I guess since we have to have Hanzo go West.
>>
>>1335223
You misunderstand, once blood has been drawn then the cyborg ninja is honor-bound to chase down an enemy into uncharted territory without backup, lest he dishonor his family and brother.

Truth be told we just got cocky and thought we had it in the bag against Widowmaker, and capturing a VIP so early on just seemed too tantalizing to resist.
>>
>>1335236
I knew it was a bad idea when one shot took off half his HP, but oh well. No point in getting salty about the past. Hopefully Tracer's cheerful personality can help the civilians stay calm.
>>
>>1335207
>>1335227
I do think we should send at least one person to each of the directions to make sure they aren't hiding any nasty surprises. Make sure anyone going solo is within support range for when they need backup, since Genji only survived before because Hanzo was there on sniper duty.
>>
>>1335249
So would I, or at least keep Hazno by the ship, but that isn't an option.
>>
>>1335246
I wasn't there when it happened but I suppose we thought the cyborg ninja’s speed would help against a sniper's sneaky-peekyness too. Personally I found it a bit funny when it came as a surprise to everyone that the sniper had a trick up her sleeve.
Having someone with a good personality to handle civilians sounds like a good idea too.
>>
>>1335250
A shame we can't just get some mooks to guard the ship instead to prevent ship hijacking extravaganzas. Does the ship have automated defenses?
>>
>>1335259
I'm pretty sure gave Athena basic hacking. That could mean she might be able to delay Omnics getting close to the ship to allow Seeker or Tracer to race over and stop them? Also I doubt the ship just has open ports on the outside or we left the door open.
>>
>>1335265
Of course we wouldn't allow something as easy as that to happen, but the Orca is still a priority target because it's our escape ride. Stranding us will pretty much wipe out half of Overwatch in one fell swoop, and that’s a much more tempting target than to chase down a sniper. They’re probably getting their VIPs in on it right as we speak, waiting for us to run out of the ship’s immediate range for when they attack.
Are those 3 routes the only ways the enemy can come through to us?
>>
>>1335277
I doubt it is something to worry about for this mission. But in future missions urgent missions we should leave someone to guard it.
>>
The Orca doesn't have weaponry, but it does have very secure doors, and Athena has a Lv1 Firewall program to protect against hackers.

Later on, soldiers or turrets to guard the transport might be useful. But right now, your enemies aren't expecting you unless this is a trap
>>
>>1335285
>unless this is a trap

QM, plz.
>>
>>1335285
>>
>>1335285
I'm thinking this is a trap so Talon can break into our base while we're out again. They know we'll have left Bastion behind and this is a heist.

Talon and Anubis are doing a you scratch my back, ill scratch yours thing
>>
>>1335294
If this is true, it's going to absolutely such for us on so many levels, isn't it?
All our VIPs are out on this mission and nearly everyone on base is either injured with the exception of Bastion. If they jam communications then we are so boned.
>>
>>1335294
>>1335296
If they try and steal Bastion then they are just gonna kill everyone else. I honestly doubt Anubis and Talon are working together For now
>>
>>1335227
So bets on if we leave nobody to check on East the enemy will flank us from that direction, or they happen to have brought bombs along too?
>>
Seekers's an offensive fighter and the Atrium group doesn't have one. I think we should go to the atrium. Hanzo and Tracer handle civvies.

>>

Raven said he would run more today. Also fighting Omnics in a place with plenty of civilians. So far people have tried to put both offense heroes on escort duty and ended up wasting our Sonic Arrow to double check that the west was safe and had no hidden enemies.
>>
>>1336070
It wasn't double checking, it was the first check, and 2, Using our Intel gathering item to see if a flank is clear of attackers isn't a waste. We know know we don't have tow waste time going to check the west manually
>>
>>1336431
I mean we were sending people to the area anyways, it wasn't a terrible choice.
>>
>>1336431
>>1336441
I figured we did it to make sure how many people we needed to bring to rescue the civvies, as they would probably be our first priority to secure.
>>
>>1335227
Actually, why should we bring Hanzo with Tracer when Mei would be better suited to the job of defending the civs while they're escorted out?
Hanzo is the sniper so he should be defended, and Tracer isn't that type. So Tracer and Mei should go West instead?
>>
>>1336474
Because there are still civs in the north where we have Omnics right now. Mei's wall and Winston's bubble will be useful area denial to keep civs safe and isolate Omnics at the same time.
>>
>>1336485
Oh, right. That makes sense. I forgot about that.

Tracer and Hanzo go west to protect the civilians and cover their retreat. Meanwhile, you lead the rest of the team forward to the Atrium. You and Winston hurry through an immaculately groomed lawn, leap over a sparkling fountain, and run up to the shattered glass wall. Mei and Mercy hang back, ready to support you.

Looking at Winston, you can see he's nervous, but gathering his courage. Meeting your eyes, he nods in resolution, and you nod back. "Let's do this, big guy," you say, bracing yourself, and step into the atrium.

Inside is a gathering place that must look beautiful when it's not caught in the chaos of terror.

A squad of three frames plods forward from the west, laying down suppressing fire in alternating bursts from their rifles. The room fills with the thunder of old-fashioned ballistic weaponry. Bullets tear up the environment, cracking the walls, tearing through the greenery, shattering the screens on the walls.

Civilians run in frantic escape, or hunker down behind cover, pinned down or just too terrified to move. Some are wounded on the ground, pleading for help as their blood stains the pristine floors. Others lie still where they have fallen. You're too late for them. But there's still people to help here.

With a spin and a flourish, you switch your weapon into gun form. Raising it and squeezing the trigger, you fire off a barrage aimed forward of the frames. It doesn't do a lot of damage to them, but it accomplishes your main goal of keeping them back from the civilians and drawing their attention.

"Here goes!" Winston takes the initiative and fires his jump jets, leaping boldly into the fray. Landing with a ground-shaking thud, he slaps down some kind of device onto the ground, which immediately springs to life with a hemispherical force field, tesselated hexagons of energy like your Shield Dash. The frames fire at both you and him, but their bullets slam into the barrier. The field blocks their line of sight to both your team and the civilians. "This will protect us, but not for long," Winston calls out. "Get those people out of here!"

"Back him up, you two," you say to Mei and Mercy as they enter the building through the shattered glass wall. "I'm going to help the civvies."

"I'm on it," says Mercy, and holds out her healing staff, sending a stream of blue energy into the gorilla. "Take them down, Winston!"

"Oh dear," says Mei, nervously clutching her ice gun. "Somewhere is a nice weather formation I should be analyzing ..."

You run in the other direction, towards the people huddling behind walls and furniture. "Come on, get out of here," you tell them, pointing to the broken wall. "You're safe--" Your HUD lights up as a stray burst of bullets comes towards you, and you just barely trigger your EM shield in time to save yourself from getting blasted, deflecting the bullets into the wall nearby. "You're as safe as it's going to get," you amend your statement. "Run now, while there's still time!"

The civilians, convinced if still terrified, start to break for the broken wall you came through. One of them stares up at you as he slowly makes his way to his feet. "W-who are you?" he asks.

"Just your friendly neighborhood vigilante," you say. "Don't worry, we're the good guys."

The man looks pretty confused, but he nonetheless accepts your offer of help and goes with you.

You shepherd the small group of civilians out of the building, protecting them with the last of your shield's charge. Just as the last one gets out, Winston's barrier field cracks and bursts apart. Bullets slam into the wall right next to, just where that last civilian was standing a moment ago.

With the barrier gone, the frames manage to score a few hits against Winston, but his armor protects him from most of the damage. His damage-boosted Tesla cannon revs up, and a cone of lightning bolts splays out, one stream arcing to each frame. The electricity quickly burns out their circuits, and all three of them slump to the ground.

Mercy switches to her yellow healing stream. "Are you all right, Winston?"

"I'm fine," he says. "A few new dents in my armor, that's all."

"Civilians here in the garden are safe," Tracer says over the radio. "Enemies seen to the north in some kinda plaza. Engaging." To the west, you can hear her pulse pistols exchanging fire with frame rifles. "Hanzo, can ya back me up over here?"

One of the rifles suddenly falls silent. "Hoho!" Tracer laughs, impressed. "Nice shot, mate!"

"Hardly a challenge," the archer's dry voice observes. "These frames are quite predictable."

"Bloody hell," says Tracer. "Reinforcements comin' from the corporate annex up ahead. Takin' fire!"

At the same time, the sound of another weapon joins the chaos. Energy weapons. You look to the east to see corporate security joining the fray, venturing out from the bottom floor of the corporate tower to advance on the frames' position. You hear a woman's scream suddenly cut short, and your hand tightens on your weapon. Corp security never did care if innocent people got caught in the crossfire.

"I-I'll try!" She runs off.

"You two, let's head east and see what's going on out there."

Winston and Mercy follow you to the east exit of the building. Here you can see a squad of three frames hunkered down behind cover, in front of the entrance to a fancy lounge. They're exchanging fire with three corporate security guards, armed with the standard light armor and energy carbines. A pair of terrified civilians huddle behind a van, looking for a moment to make a break for it.

"All right, doc," you say. "I'm going in. Join me?"

"I'll be right beside you, Seeker," Mercy says, engaging the blue stream. The azure energy flows over you, and a strange, crackling force surrounds you, as though every movement was pushing through static electricity. "You're ready to do some damage!"

"All right," you say, feeling empowered from the adrenaline coursing through you as well as Mercy's strange science. "Let's do this!"

You run forward into the fray, you fire a burst of magnetized charges from your gun. The amplified shots tear through the closest frame, punching through its armor and hitting enough vulnerable electronics inside to disable it.

The second frame turns to fire at this new threat, but you dodge nimbly aside. Spinning your gun to trigger its dynamos and load a fresh charge into the capacitor magazine, you magdump the corrupted robot at close range,.

The third frame shoots at Mercy, but she activates her propulsion units in her Valkyrie suit and, her wings flaring outward with a bright gleam of golden energy, she glides through the air closer to your position, evading the fire. You flick your weapon into sword form and cut through the last frame at three different heights, sending it to the scrap heap.

Mercy alights gently beside you, her wings still glowing. "Nice work, Seeker. We make a great team."

"Thanks, doc."

"H-halt!" shouts one of the corporate security guards. "Identify yourselves!"

"We're the good guys, and we just saved your butts," you say. "Isn't that enough?"

They raise their energy carbines. Clearly it isn't. They're going to need some kind of obvious gesture from you to be convinced you're on the same side. You could also just take them down, or try to get past them to the north -- all three of you are pretty mobile.

I think Shadowwatch would be blackwatch but it would just be overwatch doing things off the record, and retaining it's conscious during missions.

Which honestly we could need down the line, when we get back in business and people start looking real closely at what we do and we need to do something touchy where the public can't know why we were doing something, or even be sure if it's us or not, but ultimately the job HAS to be done regardless of politics for the worlds safety..

"Stay right there!" shouts the security guard in charge. "Put down your weapons and your -- your gorilla!"

"I am not a weapon," grumbles Winston. "I'm a scientist. Furthermore--"

"Not the time, big guy," you say, holstering your weapon. "Let's try and talk this out."

You take a couple of steps towards the security forces, your hands raised in surrender, and call out to them. "All right, I've put my gun away. You see? We're on the same side here, guys." At least for today, you think. "We're just here to protect the civilians. Let's start there, all right? Let them get out of here first."

The civilians cautiously look out from behind the heavy hover-van they were cowering behind. The security leader eyes them cautiously, then jerks his chin to indicate the two of them should leave. They hurry away, looking at you, Mercy and Winston with respect, fear, and something like awe.

The other two guards are talking quietly. With your helmet's sound amplification, you can just make out what they're saying. "Isn't that -- you know -- Overwatch?" "Who else has a talking gorilla? Aren't the rest all on the moon?" "That must be their medic." "Who's the guy in the jacket?" "What should we do, boss?"

"Thanks for your help," says the guard leader, still keeping his gun trained on you. "We appreciate the assist. Now turn around and leave. This area is under corporate martial authority, and we cannot guarantee your safety here."

Winston grunts. "That's not going to happen until we're sure those frames are destroyed."

"I'm warning you, ape," says the guard leader, switching his aim to Winston. "We're authorized by the charter to use deadly force if necessary."

So much for diplomacy, you think. "Look out!" you shout suddenly, pointing above and behind the guards. "Invisible frames!"

The two unranked guards spin around, searching for the invisible frames. One says to the other, "Wait, but if they're invisible, how did he--?"

Using the distraction, you charge their position. But unlike his flunkies, the guard leader isn't going to be fooled by a cheap trick like that. He quickly switches aim to you and fires a blast of green energy bolts from his carbine. He's a good shot, and your EM shield doesn't protect you properly against energy attacks. Before you can get in range to trigger your Shield Dash, he nails you twice in the left arm. Your armor catches some of it, but not enough, and pain surges through your arm as your flesh sizzles. You hiss through your teeth and fight to keep moving forward.

When you get in range, you leap into the air and trigger your boots, and air-dash into the security squad, your force shield scattering them like bowling pins. Winston leaps into the fray alongside you, and together the two of you pummel the guards into unconsciousness. They'll live, though they'll be pretty sore tomorrow.

Mercy flies to your side, engaging the golden healing beam on you. "I've got you , Seeker. Are you badly hurt?"

You try experimentally to flex your left hand and wince in pain. "Aagh ... been better."

Winston activates his commlink. "Team, check in. Are you all right?"

"So far, so good," says Tracer. "I took a bit of a hit, but that's my fault. Daft of me, really."

"Well, we all do silly things sometimes," you say, thinking about how you just tried the old look-behind-you.

"I ... I got one!!" Mei shouts, half in exultation, half in a release of terror. "I froze him in and then -- kapow! The new icicle shooter worked perfectly, Mr. Winston!"

"Glad to hear it, Mei," Winston says.

"Reinforcement bots comin' from the annex ahead," says Tracer. "Their main force is up there now. Blasted through the doors and givin' the corp security inside what for."

"Let's keep moving and finish off these frames before any more guards get in our way," growls Winston. "I'm starting to feel angry. They wouldn't like me when I'm angry."

By the way, the next time you start trying to dismantle a certain idea, I would prefer you don't crudely respond with "it's shit" multiple times and go straight to the part where multiple people were against it. It wastes posts for a discussion. You probably also should've mentioned the parts of the plan it ruined, if any, because my busy response to your fairly belligerent ones delayed my recollection of that part we should’ve been focusing on for the discussion. But bringing it up did help me remember to bring it up later, so thanks for that.

The “look behind you” trick did infact prematurely screw up some parts of the plan which I’ll get to in an unspoilered post. I was in fact agreeing with you the entire time, being one of the ones who supported the overturned decision combo, so I’m not sure why you seemed to generally respond as if I was supporting it.

You're about to tell your friends on the western side of the square to push forward into the annex building of the corporate facility. Then you recall the last mission you were calling the shots on, and how carelessly advancing your team put them in danger. "Lock down your area first, guys," you say instead. "Then when your flanks are secure, push into the annex."

"Roger," says Tracer. "C'mon, fellas! Let's take it to 'em!"

Mercy's healing beam flows into you, a weird invigoration crawling through your nerves. The wound in your left arm itches fiercly. Trying the muscles there again, you find they already work a little better. "All right, let's go knock on their front door."

"Or not," you say a few seconds later, looking at the giant hole in the main corporate building where the front door used to be. "Guess somebody beat us to it."

The three of you warily make your way through the rubble of the front entrance. "No blast damage," muses Winston. "It's like something big just charged through here."

"Oh, good," you say. "Because I was thinking, you know, it's not hard enough having to rescue civilians from the middle of a battle between corrupted Anubis frames and corporate security. I wanted to fight a BIG corrupted Anubis frame too."

"I hope you're being sarcastic," grumbles the gorilla as he knuckle-walks through the ruined lobby beside you. Bodies of corporate security lie still on the red-stained carpet, the pillars and furniture shattered by automatic ballistic fire.

Mercy kneels over one of the bodies. She sighs. "It's too late for them. Perhaps ... someday." She straightens up, looks at you and Winston with determination. "Lead on, gentlemen."

From beyond a broken security door comes the thundering sound of a heavy machine gun.

You swallow your fear. "O-okay, team. We got this. Right?"

So I'm guessing that whatever Anubis is after, had we of simply waited to regroup with our West flank teammates before clocking out the 3 corp guards, they still would've been steamrolled by Anubis breaching their defenses? "This probably calls for the cautious approach," you say. The three of you proceed further into the facility, watching your surroundings, careful of making any noise.

In a large office -- or rather, what was once a large office, considering most of the wall has been blown out -- you find a hulking bipedal combat Omnic, taller than a man, even Reinhardt in armor. Its right arm ends in a heavy machine gun, firing in extended bursts that are keeping the remaining security forces pinned down. When the machine gun finally stops to reload itself, and the defenders seize an opportunity to fire back, the Omnic raises the massive shield in its left hand, metal plates snap into place, and it becomes practically impervious to the attack. Finished reloading, the gun begins another assault, shattering the cover of one of the security defenders and taking him down.

"Okay, yeah," you say quietly. "I was definitely kidding when I said I wanted to fight a really big frame today. But I guess we're doing it anyway."

"I'm going to try and sneak in there," you say. "If I can get close to it without being spotted, maybe I can find some kind of weak point and attack it from stealth."

"All right," says Winston. "If you get spotted, I'll protect you, but ... I can't say how long my barrier will hold up against that machine gun."

"Good luck, Seeker," Mercy says. "Be careful."

"Thanks. I'll try."

During the next machine gun barrage, you creep out into the blasted office room. All you have to do is get up behind the big Anubis shieldbearer phalanx thing while staying quiet, and take out some kind of weak spot. You start looking over the components visible on its back, wondering which of them might be the most damaging.

Since you're looking at the robot and not the ground, you accidentally kick an empty aluminum can on the ground. And of course, because luck hates you, it just happens to be at a moment when the shield Omnic has paused between its long bursts of machine gun fire. The can clatters loudly in the brief silence.

The huge shield Omnic rotates, servos whirring, to face you. The ground shakes as its feet reposition. For a second it just looks at you, evaluating your existence.

"Uh ... hi," you say. "This is awkward. Have I mentioned I love Omnics? I have a great friend who's an Omnic--"

The heavy machine gun lowers.

"Oh boy," you say.

You trigger your EM shield at the last moment, and the barrage slams into the field. The force is staggering as the huge caliber bullets pile up and your gauntlet struggles to bleed momentum. You're pushed you back, your feet sliding across the ground. The shield isn't going to hold--

"Seeker!" you barely hear Winston shout over the din. Out of the corner of your eye you see him emerge from the doorway and prepare his jump jets. "Don't worry, I'll--"

The Omnic rotates its torso towards the doorway, catching Winston off-guard. The machine gun fire tracks over to him and strikes him, tearing his armor to pieces and penetrating to the gorilla underneath. Winston is forced to drop a protective barrier field just to retreat safely to Mercy.

You duck behind one of the few remaining pillars in the room. Your left gauntlet is red hot -- your shield might be busted. You're hoping to take a moment to catch your breath and come up with a new plan. Then you realize you're still under fire.

A green energy blast scorches the ground next to you. Another one strikes the pillar beside you in a flash of light. You look around to see the corporate security guards firing at you.

"I'm on your side, you idiots!" you shout at them, which is at least partly true. But it has no effect. They keep firing.

So. You've got a gigantic armored Omnic with a heavy machine gun on one side, and zealous corporate security officers on the other. Half of your team is pinned down. The other is on the opposite side of the facility. And you're cut off from your escape route.

Up until now, you thought the mission was going pretty well.

Thanks for the thread and the cliffhanger OP!

>>1338941
thanks for running

also how long till surprise its Pharah
>>
>>1338945
Never. Because it's not a surprise.
>>
RIP Shadowshot
>>
>>1338941
>>1338943
Thanks for the session, QM.

So now we have the Corps being a bunch of scrubs AND dicks to us, I shouldn't be surprised but I was hoping they'd be more practical than this.

>>1338951
>RIP Shadowshot
Really could've helped in this case.

>>1338569
>I think Shadowwatch would be blackwatch but it would just be overwatch doing things off the record, and retaining it's conscious during missions.
So Shadowwatch would be doing shadow ops, but not black ops like Blackwatch?

Jesus, what did you fuckers do to piss the dice-gods off?

>>1338939

I hope we can pull something out of our asses to get out of this mess because as things stand we are Fucked.
>>
>>1339487
Yeah it's either back up or really good rolls.
>>
>>1339487
>>1339495
Time to perform a tactical retreat?
>>
>>1339505
We are pinned down.
>>
>>1339487
Well someone on our team autolocked Hanzo. It can hardly be our fault.
>>
>>1339508
I was going to say advance in the other direction, but then I realized all our abilities aren't going to help us for this situation, unless one of us can Ult.
>>
>>1339571
Winston hinted he's close to ulting, so he could push back the metal gear while we get to a more advantageous position.
>>
>>1339671
There is that but his hp worries me. Plus the corp guards would be terrified by a berserk gorilla.
>>
>>1339762
If only Mei was here to put up an ice wall between the corp sec guys and us.
>>
>>1339762
That is actually a pretty good question. Winston gains a fuck ton of HP in the games, but I have no clue how that will work here.
>>
>>1339765
I'm hoping that will happen. Or a certain ex-girlfriend saves our ass.
>>
Maybe if we observe the environment, can a raging Winston bash it off of a cliff or something?

What about the Frames limbs, if the shield and gun are attached rather than held by hand then simply Cut the ammo belt, it can't fix it or replace it?

BREAKING NEWS FROM THE BLIZZARDVERSE!

A new comic dropped today to coincide with next week's event!

http://comic.playoverwatch.com/en-us/tracer-uprising

A couple juicy bits to draw from it:

>Tracer got her catchphrase from Torbjorn
>Overwatch uniforms were very fucking blue and made the wearers look like FUCKING NERRRRRDS
>There was a battle arena at the old HQ where new cadets were put up against each other and evaluated
>Blackwatch was put under suspension at some point
>Gabe is one sassy motherfucker
>A Director Petras is mentioned. Possible UN Director overseeing Overwatch ops?
>>
>>1340116
Breaking news from my ass. I had a bowel movement. We also already knew a fair amount of what you listed as new.
>>
>>1340133
It's all from a new comic that just came out. Stop being such a downer.
>>
>>1340153
No, we knew some of those facts from the past or the game.
>>
>>1340165
Genji is blackwatch and has at least 1 human arm. And hair. We didn't know that before
>>
>>1340523
>Implying the use of black and red parts automatically makes him Blackwatch.

Unless it is explicitly stated otherwise, Genji was a part of the regular Overwatch roster.
>>
>>1340589
Dude, he straight has the Blackwatch icon on his chestpiece.
>>
>>1340116
Thanks m8. Keep up the good work.
>>
>>1340116
Torbjorn looks like a fucking junior varsity coach.
>>
>>1341872
Kek. I honestly find all of their uniforms amusing, with the exception of Reinheardt.
>>
>>1341880

Reinhardt's armor just looks like he painted over his normal Crusader armor, the doof.

I do hope Mercy's uniform is a skin they'll release during the event, though.
>>
>>1338941
gods, where do I know that from... what show did play instrumental part that on the credits/opening?
>>
>>1342220
Its a joey jojoke
>>
>>1342224
well aware, but the question still stands
>>
>>1342225
>the question still stands

Please tell me that was intentional.
>>
>>1340116
I assume Director Petras is the namesake of the PETRAS act. I always assumed it was a place (i.e. Sokovia Accords) or an acronym
