>You are Princess Zelda, heir to the fallen throne of Hyrule

>Your father, corrupted by Power, died in a coup, your Kingdom shattered in a civil war 10 years ago, the Hero in Green giving his life to ensure you escaped the conflict

>An uneasy peace has returned to the land, but omens of a descent into greater chaos than before loom on the horizon

>You, Zelda Hyrule, have the potential to claim your birthright and restore the Kingdom to what it once was, bring back true peace to the lands. Your path ahead is not set in stone; you must chisel it in yourself. What kind of Legend will you create?

Beedle’s ship reaches the pier on the other end of the swamp. “Thaaaank you!” the man shouts, waving to you all. Up ahead... the Temple of Time. Resting place of the thing that could stop Ganon’s resurrection. Your best chance to save Hyrule.

Aveli gives a stretch as she walks across the pier with you and Sheik. “So, we just go in there, grab that evil-sealing dealy, and head on our merry way?” she questions.

“I doubt it will be that simple.” Sheik comments. “Though at the very least we should expect lighter-” Sheik notices something in the distance, drawing her dagger.

The three of you stop, spotting a small gathering of lanterns through the fog. Seems to be about... three, maybe four figures.

>A. Approach cautiously, there shouldn’t be anyone near the Temple of Time

“Sheik, can you scout ahead for us? You have the lowest chance of being detected, and we need to know who those people are. There shouldn’t be anyone here...”

She nods obediently. “As you wish, Princess.”

She quietly moves across the land, heading for the cover of foliage as you and Aveli approach cautiously. They don’t know you’re there... but from their movements, they seem to be patrolling. The young Iron Knuckle quietly comments to you, “So much for this being an easy one, ey Z?”

You sigh softly. “I should have guessed this would be more complicated than it looks. But we need what is in the Temple.”

The two of you wait for a few uneasy moments before Sheik returns. “Darknuts.”

Aveli’s grip on her axe seems to tighten. “So the pups are back. Who’s gonna bet they’re after the thing in there too?”

“That would be the safe option.” you comment. “What else have you seen, Sheik?”

“They have gotten here only recently. Possibly an hour before we arrived. The patrols at the Temple entrance consist of four of them, with two mounts. Patrols taking turns guarding the entrance. There are definitely more inside.” She looks towards the entrance, red eyes focusing. “I suspect one of them in there is their Prince.”

“He didn’t learn his lesson last time, huh?” Aveli comments, making sure the Belt of Winds is on tight. “What’s the plan, Z?”

>A. We sneak in to the best of our ability. If one of them notices us, they may alert the ones inside; avoid fighting and attracting attention
>B. We ambush them and take them out quickly, before they have a chance to alert the ones inside
>C. Sheik, carry Aveli into the Temple as stealthily as you can, I will follow with Farore’s Wind, it will be the easiest way to avoid attracting their attention

Well. This is a bit of a conundrum... but you have a plan. “We need to avoid causing a scene. Sheik, guide us through the best path you can so we can sneak inside without gaining their attention. If they find us, they’ll potentially alert the ones inside. And we need to do it fast.”

“Understood, Princess. Hmn... Aveli, you should follow behind me first.” she comments, looking to the little Gerudo.

“Eh, sure, but why?”

“It’s just safer.” Sheik adds. “I will need you both to follow my movements carefully, though.”

...Your left eyebrow rises slightly, but you start to understand what she means upon listening to Aveli move. Ah, that armor doesn’t make for much in the way of stealth. Well, it’s an understandable request. The three of you use a combination of the fog, careful and deliberate movement, and cover in some of the more forested areas to circle around the Darknut guards. You do manage to catch a bit of their conversation as the two patrolling keep to their duty.

“How much longer is the Prince going to take?” one barks, slightly larger than its companion.

The smaller Darknut snorts at him dismissively. “He’ll be done when he’s done. His goal is noble, his blood is worthy. Now quit your yapping and be thankful you’re a part of our people’s rise to glory.”

Aveli mumbles to you, “If it’s anything like last time he’ll turn tail and run the moment we show up.”

Sheik tries to shush her... but the Iron Knuckle manages to miss a step and snap a branch. The two Darknuts turn their heads towards your general direction. Sheik manages to bring Aveli to cover in a quick tackle, but one seems to have caught a minor glimpse of them. “...Move towards the entrance. Wake those bums up and have them on alert.” the smaller one orders.

“Tch, it’s probably just another bird. You’re on edge, none of the Hylian fools know about this campaign thanks to the Chief’s attack on that convoy yesterday.”

“Wake them!” the smaller Darknut barks. It starts to make slow and deliberate movements in your direction. It doesn’t quite know you’re there... but it might spot you if you don’t-

...You spot a small squirrel a small distance away, scurrying across the ground. You give a brief prayer to the Goddesses that the idea you hatch works. You find a pebble and carefully flick it at the squirrel, causing it to scurry towards the Darknut. The monster notices the animal, and the animal, the monster, the squirrel bolting away from it like its life depends on it. As the other three arrive, they all spot the squirrel running off in the distance.

And it’s just the opportunity you need. Sheik has Aveli get on her back as you and the Sheikah make your way to the temple entrance, avoiding the oversized wolves resting there and making it to... the Temple of Time.

The building, illuminated by torches and moonlight, seems so simple, and yet it feels like every step you take is a good deal heavier. Up ahead is a main hallway with a pedestal in front of a flight of stairs, the pedestal emblazoned by the insignia of the Royal Crest. Up the stairs seems to be an entry way to another room, one with stained glass.

But right in the middle of the floor... you spot a broken sword.

A shot of fear travels down your spine. Goddesses you hope that isn’t the real thing. “We need to move, quickly!” Aveli looks at the broken blade curiously as you move, while Sheik... for a moment, she’s almost paralyzed. You hear her mumble to herself, finally shaking her head and rushing with you up the staircase. In there you see... a pedestal, with a small hole in it, that clearly housed a blade at one point.

Sheik collapses for a moment. “No... no no no... not like this...”

“...I’m a bit lost here, what’s wrong?” Aveli asks.

You spot at the other end of the room a doorway... that’s been broken down forcefully, the shattered remains of a large metal doorway bearing the symbol of the Triforce scattered across the ground. You grit your teeth and grab Sheik by the arm. “No stopping! We need to keep moving!”

The girl’s legs shake as she tries to run with you. “But...”

“We... we can repair it later... we need to keep going!” you order.

“Okay, PLEASE tell me what’s going on!” Aveli demands.

“...Evil’s Bane has been shattered across these floors... why didn’t... why didn’t the dragon warn us?” Sheik mumbles, the three of you making it to the next room. Aveli starts to understand the gravity of the situation.

“...Maybe we were already too late. Maybe it was broken long before they got here.” you speculate to try and put her mind at ease. This next room... it’s larger, a place where a proper congregation would gather. Each side of it is flanked by three doors, while at the back of the room there is another, sturdier, locked door behind a broken podium. The door seems to need three Keys to open. The doors on the side each have a symbol above them, each side mirroring the other. The ones to the left, towards the back, bears Nayru’s symbol, while the ones in the middle bear Din’s and the ones to the right, towards the entrance, bears Farore’s.

“...There’s no clear sign of the pups in here aside from that broken podium. What’s the plan, Z?”

>A. They clearly split up. We need to split up ourselves, each of us take one of the doors on the (left or right?)

“We need... we need to think this through. They were here. And they are still in this Temple. We should find where they went. Let’s search this room first. Sheik-” You look back to her and see her shaking. “...Sheik, I need you to focus. look around the benches, the floors, the doors, look for any sign that they were here.”

“Y-yes... yes, Princess...” she mumbles out nervously.

Aveli removes her helmet. “...Maybe we should take a moment to breathe, Z.”

“It’s a moment that we don’t have. If they... if they shattered the blade like that, and they’re still here... then they haven’t accomplished their goal. Every second we waste is a second they get closer to it.”

Aveli slowly nods, a worried frown across her face. “Okay...”

The three of you look around the floors and doors. To your luck, Sheik finds a faint trail of fur strands leading from there in three directions. One to the Farore symbol on the left wall, one to the Din symbol on the right, and one to the Nayru symbol on the left. That narrows things down...

>A. Each of us take a door, split up and find them

“...We shall try here first. They may have split up, but we won’t. We need to stick together, and keep our chins up.” you tell the girls, pointing to the Farore door they went down. “Let’s keep moving.”

Sheik and Aveli look to each other for a moment, nod, and continue on, the Iron Knuckle putting her helmet back on. “Z... we’re with you, but don’t let this get to you.”

You look away. “I will focus on our goal here. Don’t worry about me.”

“Little too late. I’m serious, Z, this isn’t your fault.” Aveli comments, walking with as you enter the door.

“...I hope that is true.” There are ways it could have been broken before. Such as... if the reason he fell... the reason he fell in battle... You shake your head. Focus. Focus. “I will not be daunted by this. I promise.”

Sheik grabs you by the arm. “...Princess. We mean it.”

“...And I promise. Now, let us find the Darknuts before things get worse.”

The door you go through leads you down another staircase, to a lower level in the temple. You spot on the way down there a few pictures on the walls... some seem to show wolves. A white one, and a familiar black and white one, with the even more familiar stylized image of an imp-like being riding it.

You reach the bottom of the stairway and enter into a long room, but one sectioned off into different, circular, rotating areas. At the far end of the room you spot the clear images of Darknuts. Two of them, wearing silver and black armor. You further notice that the sections are rotating in some sort of pattern, opening and closing according to a kind of rhythm.

>A. Move forward to the first section, see how it moves, making your way to sneak up on the Darknuts at the end of the room
>B. Time your shot and try to surprise them with a Bombchu

“Aveli, Sheik, try to find some cover for when they come this way.” you command, walking towards the first of the three rotating section. “We’ll flesh them out and draw them here.” And as a bonus, you’ll figure out the rotating sections’ pattern better.

As you prepare your magic, your ears pick up some of their conversation. “Well?”

“Most likely. We’ll get him here soon. No shoddy slab of iron this time...”

...Might be a good sign. You fling the sphere of fire, making it past the three totating sections and hitting the two Darknuts, the burst catching the both of them. “WHY! WHY AGAIN! WE DISABLED ALL THE-” the silver one howls in pain, but notices you standing at the other end of the room. “...Damn it, Hylian. Probably the one the Prince has his feud with.”

The black one starts to move towards you, taking its stance. “Kill her and be done with it, we have a job to do!”

The two start running, Aveli backed into a corner near you, ready to pounce, Sheik using the distraction you provide and flinging some needles at them, hitting them in the arms. They’re caught in the rotating section right before you, shields raised as they approach.

“I’ll have none of your tricks today, Hylian!” the silver Darknut roars, readying its massive sword. You quickly draw your crossbow and fire a bolt into his eye, causing him to stumble and miss you entirely. The second Darknut swings his own sword down at you, but you manage to not only move out of the way using Farore’s Wind, but also give a quick swing of your sword to knock his helmet off.

Sheik uses this opportunity to dash in from her hiding place, striking the helmet-less Darknut in the jaw with her dagger, sticking with it for a moment to let the the injured Darknut try and strike at her, backflipping off and forcing it to smash its ally with its shield. It barks in rage at its comrade, but Aveli uses this opportunity to dash in and smash them both with her axe. The blow sends them flying to the back of the room, the silver one smacking into one of the pillars in the rotating third room.

The helmet-less Darknut in black armor tries to stand. “You... you BITCHES! I will have your heads for this! Once the Prince has this blade, you will all-!” You cut it short with another Crossbow bolt to its face, the monster slumping. In its last moments its hand tries but fails to reach for... a... a sword?

“A-again with the throwing?” the little Gerudo asks in mild protest. “F-fine, let’s do this, Z!” Sheik too gives you a concerned look, but figures now is not the time to argue.

You put on the Power Gloves and, with careful timing, fling Aveli and Sheik across the room. The Sheikah girl’s toss is... not as coordinates as you’d have liked it to be, but she makes up for your quick yet shaky throw with her natural agility. Sheik arrives first and manages to kick the Darknut in the back of the head, Aveli landing before the monster and finishing it with a powerful swing of her axe, knocking it away from the sword and ending it.

You fall back in mild relief. The sword’s safe. And... the girls are right there. Aveli removes her helmet, wiping away some sweat from her brow. “Well that could have been worse... so, uh, Z, what do we do with this?” she questions, pointing her thumb at the sword in stone.

“There seems to be an inscription of sorts in front of it...” Sheik notes.

You make cautious steps towards the back of the room, noticing further images across the rotating sections of rooms. A large circular image flanked by the clear image of a Hero in green and a tall woman colored like the imp from before. “What does it say? Can you read it aloud, Sheik?”

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=I9YDsH-X9HE

She nods, looking over the inscription. “‘Bane of Evil, Sealer of Darkness, rests within the hidden wall. Servants of the Master will guide the way, answering the Chosen One’s call.’ That’s the first part... but there seems to be an additional, more recent part... ‘If Darkness and Shadow creep within these walls, Time’s melody will protect these halls, a Hero of Hyrule will answer its calls.’”

“Greeeaaat. Riddles.” Aveli adds, rolling her eyes.

“Rather simple ones...” Sheik notes. “...Princess, do you know this melody it speaks of?”

“I wish I did...” you comment. You notice further images of a boy in green overshadowed by a knight, and four boys of red, blue, purple and green crossing blades... and lastly a young woman flanked by another woman and a young man, hands resting on a blade. “...If the ‘Servants of the Master will guide the way... then this blade...’”

You let out a soft sigh of relief. So, you know that not only is the blade safe, but you’re at an advantage now. “Sheik, I think it would be best if you take that sword.”

“M-me?” she stutters.

“Aveli still has her axe, and I have a blade of my own. We will need it to get through this, and retrieve Evil’s Bane. Besides, you should take a blade like that yourself.”

Aveli puts her helmet back on. “Hey, sounds fine with me. Ready to go, Sheik?”

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Gv6aBFtNSis

The Sheikah girl places her hands on the sword, taking a deep breath. With a tight grip on it, she slowly pulls the blade from the pedestal. A soft light seems to shine from the sword, Sheik giving it a quick swing... and noticing that the light seems to grow brighter and darker depending on its position. She points towards the doorway with it, where it seems to glow the brightest. “...Let us be on our way.”

“So... what is this thing, exactly?” Aveli questions as the three of you walk back through the rotating sections of the room... and you swear you can hear a pattern to each one’s movements.

“...I believe you can call this the Servant Sword of Farore.” Sheik responds, still inspecting it. She gives it another swing, bringing it near one of the pictures, of the boy and the knight. Wait... the picture seems to glow as well. You approach it... seems to be notes. The image faces opposite the picture of the circular structure flanked by the Hero and tall woman.

You look over the notes carefully. Curious... “Sheik, bring the sword to that picture opposite this one.” You play a few notes of the image...

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zqHDTI2zHfI

But something seems off about it. And you swear you hear a ticking clock somewhere start to slow... Hrmn, and just as well, the rooms rotating parts slow. Sheik brings the sword to the picture... revealing the circular image to have a reflective surface. Aha, of course!

Sheik rubs her chin. “A mirror...?”

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mf_-rCTbwKc

You play the song’s notes in reverse, and the ticking sound seems to cease. And the rotating sections of the room finally stop, locking into place one by one. The images on each section seem to grow into full tapestries, depicting each Hero in Green’s adventures in more detail. The room itself seems to become more colorful.

‘Hee-hee-ho! Congratulations, Princess. Those long-forgotten notes have not traveled through these halls for quite some time...’ Keaton’s voice comments. ‘Your sharp eye has granted you... the [Song of Time].’

You grin with a mild bit of pride. “Sheik, try and shine it over the passage you read, or anywhere else you might think is important.”

She makes her way back through the still room, Aveli taking notice of the Heroine in Green and looking her over, and then the man next to her. She doesn’t make any verbal comment... but she seems to hum a proud little tune as she spots his clear Gerudo features. Sheik shines her sword over the passage... and it does indeed reveal a further bit. This one, though, is no riddle.

“‘Fated Hero, journey cut short by your lesser, I shall atone for my weakness, and find your successor.’” you read out. Sheik brings the blade above the pedestal where it rested, the light fading... but it too bringing out a faded image. An image all too familiar to you. Him. You turn your head away. “...Atone...”

“Princess?”

You walk towards Aveli. “I am fine. It is just a reminder of why... why I am thankful I have the two of you with me.” you add with a soft smile.

“Ah come on Z, don’t be like that.” Aveli responds, doing a little stretch. You and Aveli are about to head on out, when Sheik stops for a moment behind you. She brings her sword to the image of the Heroine, then tilts her head.

“Something the matter?” you ask.

“A small inscription... it...” Her cheeks gain a rosy red color. “It is nothing important.”

You raise your left eyebrow, but she hurries you and Aveli out the door, back to the main room. Well, one down, five doors to go.

>A. Try for the Farore door opposite this one

“Are you sure you are fine, Sheik?” you ask, looking to the Sheikah girl with concern.

“I am. Just... having a moment understanding that even the heroes of times past can be...” she seems to hide her face in her scarf more. “...Unprofessional. I-it is nothing to be concerned over, Princess, I promise.”

“If you insist... let us be on our way, then.” You decide the next place you should head to is the Din door. If this follows a pattern... there should be another blade like the one Sheik now holds in her hands. The door leads down another stairway... and the room it brings you to seems to be quite a bit larger than the previous one.

“KEEP AT IT! THESE CLAY TOYS ARE NOTHING COMPARED TO US!” one of the Darknuts howls down the way. Through an open doorway you spot three of the monsters facing off against... well, what seem to be moving statues.

Statues of... the previous heroes?

“Well... now that’s a sight.” Aveli comments, readying herself. “Should we charge in there?”

“It may be better to wait them out, let them tire from fighting the statues, then pick them off ourselves.” Sheik adds. “Or we could use this opportunity to sneak around the area and try to see it has in store.”

Sheik does have Farore’s Sword, using this distraction could lead to some revelations like the previous room did... and you have a feeling that the Song of Time could help you in some regard. Still, your time is limited, and the three Darknuts visible could spot you themselves. And... something tells you they didn’t come here alone.

C. Sneak around the room, it’s larger than the previous one and could hold some further secrets
B. Wait it out, attack after the monsters tire

Do both, search around while the statues and Darknuts fight it out, then we can take out the Darknuts after they've tired.

Wait a minute...

>‘If Darkness and Shadow creep within these walls, Time’s melody will protect these halls, a Hero of Hyrule will answer its calls.’”

If I'm interpreting this right, the Song of Time may have summoned those statues to fight the Darknuts. That could be very helpful later.

“...We’ll be quiet about this. Sheik, Aveli, if I understand this correctly... the Song of Time may be what caused those statues to activate. If this is true, we could use it to our advantage. Let us go past them and wait out the fight. This room is larger than the last and has more things to discover, let us make haste.”

The girls nod, moving with you swiftly but silently. Sheik brings out her sword as the monsters are distracted. So far there seem to be two of the previous Heroes, the Knight and Hero with the Imp. For a moment, as you watch them fight... you’re slightly mesmerized. You are no slouch to swordplay, but even as moving statues, the two fighting are on another level. If anything, they seem to work in tandem together against the trio of Darknuts, graceful as they are fierce. With nothing but swords and shields they dance around their opponents, parrying, dodging, and striking with eagle-like precision.

As you make your way to a smaller hallway on the side of the larger floor, this distraction lasts long enough for you to trip on a cracked tile, falling to the ground with a soft thud before Sheik or Aveli can catch you. It... leaves more damage to your pride than your body, and thankfully the Darknuts were too distracted by the pair of Heroes to notice the sound you made, but as Sheik helps you stand, you notice her sword glow softly again. You’re by another picture... one with a rather disturbing image of a young Hero, an unsettling grin across its face.

“The Empty Guide heeds Time’s Call.” you read quietly. Well... you can put your theory to the test.

There is a soft thud in the distance. Well, you need to make your way towards it. You keep walking with Aveli and Sheik, crossing the potential line of sight of the scuffle. You make it through without trouble, but as Aveli and Sheik sneak behind you, one of the Darknuts is smacked aside by Hero Knight. It spots the two of them, tilting its head for a moment. Aveli hurries in behind you, Sheik tossing a needle at the monster, striking it in the eye.

The monster howls in pain, but stands back up, about to charge you all down, when the Hero Knight manages to finish it off. You lock eyes with the statue’s cold gaze... and it gives you a slow nod before turning back to face the other two. You sigh in relief... then nearly stumble as you’re met face to face with a statue. The same unsettling smile across its face.

Sheik has to hold Aveli back from attacking the creepy statue. “The HELL is that?” the little Gerudo demands.

“...Sheik, can... can you look over that statue with your sword?” you ask of her, shuddering slightly. Goddesses, why does it look like that?

She brings Farore’s Sword over the statue, the blade glowing softly again. The... head moves slightly, making an eerie grinding sound and nothign else. Sheil brings the sword down to the base of the statue. There is but one phrase upon its base; “Follow close.”

“If it tries anything I am smashing this statue.” Aveli gives out adamantly.

...You bring out the Mask of Truth and place it on the statue’s face. “Well, it knows the way.” You look away from it and at the girls. “We can’t waste any-” You look back and notice that the statue has moved. “...time.”

The statue has moved quite a distance ahead of you, silently, the Mask of Truth still resting upon its face. Aveli’s grip on her axe tightens. “Imma smash it.”

“Aveli, please do not smash the statue. It hasn’t brought any physical harm upon us, it would be wrong to bring that against the inanimate- ...the statue.”

“It’s going to give me nightmares. That’s a kind of harm.” Aveli retorts, carefully walking behind you as you follow the statue.

“You will be fine. The statue will not harm us.” Sheik reassures, trying to look around the room with her sword. Still seems to glow the brightest near the statue.

“How do you know?” the Gerudo grumbles. “...Your legs are shaking.”

Sheik consciously tries to keep herself walk straight. “That is not important. We follow the statue.”

“Your legs are shaking.”

“Girls, please don’t-” You notice Sheik’s sword stop its subtle glow as you look back at them. When you turn to look back at the statue, it’s moved again.

“Not only is it creepy, it’s a bit of a jerk.” Aveli comments.

You approach one more time, even you feeling cautious as you approach, the path you walk on feeling strangely narrow. This time, Sheik pays careful attention to her sword, noticing it flicker slightly as you finally get to it. “Princess, look at-”

And it moves once more. This time though, it appears with three further statues. One of a Zora, another, a Goron, and the last... a Deku scrub? “Most curious.” you comment aloud, finally reaching the statue again. This time you don’t let your eyes wander, briefly removing the Mask of Truth... and to your surprise, the other three statues all change into copies of the first. You place the Mask on one more time, and their true forms show themselves.

Aveli is visibly shaking. “Why. Why is it doing this?”

“...Could be to test the resolve of the one coming here. Or the ability to follow directions.” Sheik speculates, looking down on her blade once more. “Perhaps... if we did not follow it correctly, we would have to fight these statues.”

“I’m about three seconds away from trying to smash them. Z, back me up on this one.”

You give her an earnest look and sigh softly. “Let us not make this more difficult than it has to be, we-”

Oh good, Sheik’s blade flickers again. The statues moved. You smirk a little as you notice they spread out, but they’re all still clearly the same, and the Mask still on the one resembling the Hero. The Mask of Truth seems to have helped you on this. The three of you move forward once more, this time hurrying along more quickly. The statue pulls one final disappearing act... and it leads you to statues of the Four Heroes crossing blades behind a much, much larger sword in a pedestal. A massive one, at that, a sword that clearly would need great strength to wield.

“Well... seeing as Sheik got the last one, Aveli, would you prefer the honor? It should weigh about as much as your axe.”

The young Gerudo removes her helmet. “...You sure, Z?”

You nod. “Go for it.”

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oqkfvojy3D8

Aveli places her hands on the blade’s grip, and in one swift motion, pulls it free of its pedestal. As she does so, the statues of the four Heroes raise their blades into the air. Aveli gives the sword a swing. “...It’s strange. Still a lot of weight from this intricate design, but... it seems to swing just fine.” She spreads her legs slightly, holding the sword forward, pommel by her hip. “So... if Sheik's is the Servant Sword of Farore, then this... is the servant sword of Din... Mind if I keep this?”

You laugh softly. “Let us make it through the Temple first.” You feel a tap on your shoulder, turning to see the Mask of Truth being presented to you. “Ah, thank y-AH!” You nearly leap from the surprise of the statue handing you the Mask... but you calm down upon seeing that it’s no longer the creepy, grinning thing. The statue’s face seems far more normal, a friendly, soft smile across its boyish face. You take the mask back.

Aveli still looks over it suspiciously. “...You scare us like that again and I make you dust.”

Sheik hangs her head. “Please do not antagonize the statue.”

“I mean it, you pull a trick like that and I...” Aveli’s rant is cut short as the statue kneels in front of her blade. “...That’s better.”

“...Aveli, move your sword around a bit.” you request, rubbing your chin.

She does so, and the kneeling statue seems to glow slightly... as does the sword. She brings the sword up, and the statue stands, drawing its own sword and standing ready. “...Huh. That’s... different.”

You tilt your head at this. “Sheik... maybe your sword can reveal more details. What might this be?”

Sheik looks over the statue again, and the two swords actually glow brighter together. On the sword of the Hero, text appears. “‘Courage, to face the Truth; Power, to lead the Empty.’”

You get an idea in your head, and play the Song of Time once more. The soft tones of the song echo through the chamber... and there is a soft clicking sound through the halls. The statue of the Hero, to your surprise, shows an ocarina, motioning playing it first Aveli’s sword, and then Sheik’s, and finally you. It’s almost as if... wait, does it want you to play the song once you have all the swords?

Well, in any case... “Aveli, you may be able to guide it. Let us go back to the fighting statues, we can stop the Darknuts together!”

She grins wide, fastening her axe to her back and putting her helmet back on. “All right Z! We’re with you.”

Sheik readies herself as well. “One sword left.”

The four of you make a charge down the halls, the fighting statues now being pushed back by a far larger force of Darknuts, some with far more decorated armor. Seven in total, with ten smaller, bow-wielding canine monsters, and a group of four Wolfos. The leader of the group snarls. “Fools, your toys will not protect you! The Prince will have that blade, and your heads!”

Aveli readies herself. “I don’t think so!”

The two fighting statues are injured, cracked in places and worn... but they’re not down yet. You draw your sword anf give a shout, “For Hyrule!”

As the archers are about to fire, you set down your last three Bombchus between the statues and let each one race towards your foes. The archers try to turn their attention to the incoming bombs, and the volley of arrows fly at the ground... but miss two of the three. The two Bombchus race past the Wolfos, the monsters charging out of the way and blasting four of the ten archers, the final Bombchu, surprisingly, actually slightly ramping up the arrow that strikes in front of it, a small hop across the ground making it hit another arrow, but one far too close to the archers, causing it to explode right in front of three of them.

The remaining three archers fall back, the Darknuts making a steady march forward, shields in front of them, as the Wolfos make their charge. One of the archers almost hits you with their volley, but thankfully the Knight Hero statue blocks the arrow with his stone Shield. He looks back to you and nods, Aveli swinging her sword and giving a roar of “CHARGE!” to the statues, the four of them marching forward and meeting the Wolfos, clashing with the monsters. Sheik meanwhile manages to catch the archer that almost got you in the arm with one of her needles, another needle incapacitating it as it strikes the beast’s eye.

The Monsters are starting to spread out, but some are still close together...

“...Aveli, Sheik, I have an idea. It’s risky, but if it works, we could end this confrontation quickly.” You move over to the statue of the statue of the younger Hero, putting on the Power Gloves. “On my signal, order him to attack.”

“...Please do not throw him.” Sheik requests with mild concern in her voice, clashing with the charging Wolfos, blade holding back the monster’s claws.

“Trust me.” You then sling the younger Hero under your arm, even the statue not sure what you’re about to do. But you time this carefully, and using Farore’s Wind, leap position from where you are to behind enemy lines, the statue coming with. He seems to smile at you briefly, then, at Aveli’s command, leaps from your arms and brings down the two canine archers with a fierce swing of his sword, the monsters howling in pain and surprise. The final, injured archer you catch with your Hookshot and bring it to you, striking it down with a quick swing of your sword. However, while you are successful in your attempt, they still manage to get a couple lucky hits in against you before you can properly raise your shield. Each of your legs are grazed by jagged arrows, not something debhilitating, but it’s enough to make you stumble and fall, letting out a shout of pain.

This in turn catches the Darknuts’ attention, two of the seven turning back to face you, raising their swords and giving a charge. You thankfully manage to fire off a volley of crossbow bolts to drive them back, grazing two of them in return and striking one on the back. You get to your feet and catch sight of Aveli clashing with one of the Darknuts, her new sword making even their armor seem light, the two Heroes’ statues bringing the Wolfos down.

Sheik rushes to your side, leaping and kicking down one of the Darknuts to the ground, smashing her heel into the back of its head as she uses it as a temporary platform, standing in front of you defensively. “Princess, how bad are your injuries?” she asks in an almost panicked voice.

“I’ll live.”

Aveli directs the Heroes against the Darknuts, a thunderous clash of steel and stone coming from the massive brawl that ensues. The younger Hero’s statue moves in on the Darknut Sheik kicked down, giving three quick slashes as it tries to stand. You use the opportunity to take a drink of your Blue Potion. The nice, Blueberry taste of it fills you with renewed vigor, you feel your injuries healing up and your Magic restoring back to full.

[Hearts: 9/9]

[Magic: 5/5]

You and Sheik look to each other, you showing your Crossbow. “...I have a plan, Princess.”

“Ready to follow it, Sheik.” you tell the girl confidently.

As one of the Darknuts charges you, Sheik swiftly runs towards it, throwing a couple of her knives at the monster to make it defend. But with the beast’s shield up, it doesn’t catch Sheik darting around it, gripping her sword tight and slashing it across its back, the Darknut howling in pain as its armor falls from its body. You use the opportunity to shoot it in the chest with your crossbow, bolt piercing it deep, Sheik delivering a finishing blow to it from the back.

The monster falls, and from the brawl breaking out between Aveli, the Hero statues, and your foes, now only three of the Darknuts remain.

The Darknuts back themselves up, weighing their options as your allies surround them. One in black armor seems to turn its head towards you. It then... looks to the doorway. “...Without her, these brats have nothing. End that girl’s life, and our Prince will have the Blade all to himself! If we fall, we fall with honor!”

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7Gugj-AekgQ

The three of them make a charge, and you quickly use your renewed health to strike at one of them with your Sword Beam, halting its charge briefly and allowing Aveli to catch up with it with the statues. She swings her sword at the monster, but as the blade falls down hard on him, he manages to retaliate, catching the calf of her leg. Aveli stumbles, but points her sword at you and shouts to the statues, “Go! GO! Help her!”

While this is going on, you call out Zas to engage the Darknuts, the Phantom Knight making a counter charge with the young Hero to try and stop the monsters trying to rush you. They manage to catch and stop the other, flanking Darknut, but as Zas brings his sword down against the monster, the beast retaliates by slashing back against him. The final monster reaches you, getting past Sheik very briefly and trying to plunge its blade down at you. Your shield catches and stops it, but the sheer force of the monster’s swing knocks your shield away. You parry your sword against his, but while you prevent the Darknut’s blade from slashing your arm off, it still leaves a painful gash across it. But with your sword so close to him, you catch the chance to make a quick stab at the beast, catching it at the waist, between the armor. It backs up, again swinging its sword against you, trying to hit you at your side. You again manage to stop it, but the blade tears through your poncho and leaves another painful gash in your side.

Sheik once more manages to remove the monster’s armor with a fierce swing of her sword, but the Darknut just barely escapes a fatal blow like the previous one suffered. Once more, your swords clash, the statues of the Heroes trying their best to fight through the two that were flanking the foe you face. This time, you successfully deflect its sword and slash the Darknut across the chest. For a moment it seems like you’ve won... but even with this fatal injury, the fiend still has one last trick up its sleeve, kicking your shin and tripping you, attempting to bring its blade down on you, letting our a defiant, furious final roar.

“ZELDA!”

Your heart skips a beat. The monster’s sword comes within inches of your neck as it is rammed into stone... both of the floor, and of the statue of the young Hero, taking the blow meant for you. His stone sword lays lodged in the Darknut’s throat, your blade piercing it in the gut.

The statue turns its head back to face you... and smiles.

As the monster’s body turns to blackened mist, the statue begins to crumble from the damage it sustained. And... so does the statue of the Knight Hero, leaving only one left. The remaining statue’s movements become calmer, walking towards a pedestal. Sheik nearly pounces at you, her eyes watering. “Princess! Princess! How deep are your wounds?! Goddesses I’m sorry, I should have... I should have...”

You push up slightly. “I will live. Thank you, Sheik. And you, Aveli. That... could have turned out far, far worse if it weren’t for you both, and...” You look to the crumbled remains of the young Hero as Zas floats to the Knight Hero, kneeling to it for a moment.

“...It was not enough.” the Phantom states in a cold, melancholy whisper. “Even with all I have, I nearly failed you again, Princess.”

Aveli finally gets to you, her head hung slightly as she helps you stand. You wince slightly from the wound in your side. Aveli then quietly hugs you for a moment, mumbling an apology that’s muffled further through her helmet once she lets go.

“If it weren’t for all of you, I would not be standing here right now. Do not blame yourselves for my injuries, I owe you all my life.” you tell them in a calm voice, walking to gather up your shield again. “...I know the risks involved in this. I am very, very well aware that my life is on the line. But I have to do this. And I know I could not have gotten this far without your help.”

Sheik looks down solemnly. “...You can say that, but-”

“I do not wish to worry you, Sheik. I am sure Impa has told and the other Sheikah plenty on the times she has scolded me for acting recklessly.” you comment, laughing, but wincing again as you feel the pain in your side. You’ll need to heal that up, quick. You bring out the remaining red potion you have... then remember Aveli’s injury. “Do you need some of this too?”

She shakes her head. “I’ve had much worse, Z, and you took the most from that scuffle. I’ll be fine.”

“Just want to be sure.” You take a quick drink of the Potion, deciding to leave half of it in the bottle in case you need it later. You then walk over to the broken statue. “...Your time passed long ago, you were nothing more than enchanted stone... but you still fought as a Hero. Forgive me for forcing you into a situation like that... and thank you for saving my life.”

“That Hero was the one that would become a valiant knight, one that generations since his time were modeled on.” Zas comments in his ghastly voice, looking to the broken statue of the Knight. “...And as the legend goes, also became an old ghost that found his rest only after he knew the next generation could take care of themselves.” He looks to the remaining, intact statue.

Sheik stands close by you. “Princess... we should take this opportunity to rest.”

“Briefly.” you state. “Let us look through what the monsters left behind, it will calm our nerves.”

She nods, the three of you looking around the area as Zas stands before the door, ready to defend you at a moment’s notice. To your luck, you manage to find some fruit, some berries and apples in a bag that let you regain the rest of your health, and, to your relief, a good number of arrows you can quickly fashion into proper crossbow bolts. Sadly no Bombchus, but you do manage to get a few Rupees left behind.

“So... do you think that was the most of them?” Aveli questions, cleaning her new sword.

Sheik looks over her own blade, inspecting it for damage. “I would hope, but I doubt that is the majority of their forces. And that they have been quieter in the last few minutes worries me. They are planning something.”

“We know their main goal. It is important that we retrieve the Evil’s Bane first.” you state. Catching a brief glimpse through a Temple window, you notice how the darkness of the night, with only the shining moon outside to drive it away, has steadily been waning. You stand tall and tell the girls, “Dawn approaches within the hour. Let us greet the rising sun with the sword that will bring peace to Hyrule.”

A-anons.

Anyway, we're back!

>>1341357
You make your way back to the main room, and to your relief, there’s no force of Darknuts waiting for you. You can breathe easy for now. There is one room left for the final Sword. But at the same time, there are the other three rooms you haven’t visited yet...

>A. Head in to the final, Nayru door. Get the sword before the Darknuts can
>B. Look into the opposing Farore door
>C. Look into the opposing Din door
>D. Something else?
>>
>>1343282
>A. Head in to the final, Nayru door. Get the sword before the Darknuts can
On one hand, they can't progress without our two swords.

On the other hand, if they LEAVE with it we're shit outta luck.
>>
>>1343300
Good point, backing. We should prepare for them to switch up tactics too, might try to steal out swords.

A. Head in to the final, Nayru door. Get the sword before the Darknuts can

We need to get that other sword before the Darknuts can. Once we have it, we won't be as pressed for time and can explore some more.

“We have two blades, so even if they get this last one, we still have an advantage... but if they manage to leave with the last one, we will not be able to retrieve Evil’s Bane.” you think aloud. “...And they may have realized that. Let us make haste.”

You enter the Nayru door, walking down another hallway and entering... well, what looks to be a maze. You don’t hear sounds indicating the Darknuts are in the nearby area, but you also can’t tell how far this maze goes. Aveli looks around the three entrances to the maze, mumbling out “Aw crap.”

There are three entrances. You could split up and try to work your way through... but you DO have a Phantom on your side.

>A. Zas, can you scout ahead for us?
>B. Sheik, your eyes are sharp and you’re able to move quickly, can you look down one of the entrances to this maze?
>C. Aveli, you can cover a lot of ground with the Belt of Winds, mind looking through one of the paths?
>D. Split up and try to find your way through, keep in contact vocally
>E. Something else?

You rub your chin. “We need to find our way through the maze, but we shouldn’t split up just yet after what we’ve been through... though... Zas, you’re able to phase through the walls, can you scout ahead just a bit? Be careful.”

“That I can, and that I shall, Princess.” he responds, slowly floating ahead.

“We will follow him once we know the coast is clear.” you tell the girls.

As the Phantom Knight moves through the walls, you wait cautiously for a signal. After a few moments, you hear a strange humming sound, then a clash of metal. Silence returns for a moment, then another humming sound. Silence again, and then the sound repeats. Zas finally returns to you after a few minutes. “The maze is quite large. What’s more, it is guarded by Beamos; I have managed to break one, and I have injured two more, but I cannot travel far enough to reach the end of the maze.”

“Beamos...” Shiek repeats. “So, perhaps that is why the Darknuts haven’t been heard here.”

“Well, you have a way we should follow, right Zas?” Aveli questions.

The Phantom nods. “If you are ready.”

>A. Lead the way
>B. Let us deal with the Beamos first, then we can continue on your path, Zas
>C. ...Actually, we should avoid the Beamos entirely; if the Darknuts enter this room, they will have to get through them first

“Lead the way, Zas.” you tell the Knight, Aveli and Sheik walking with you cautiously.

The young Iron Knuckle grips her blade tight, moving in front of you. “Darknuts couldn’t have gotten far in here if there’re Beamos so close to the entrance. Maybe we were lucky and the rest got blasted.”

“Or more likely, they regrouped and moved to a different room...” Sheik adds, coming up close behind you.

As you walk... you notice some stone carvings across the path Zas takes you down. Some you have seen before, brief scenes showing the history of Hyrule. A few of them are new to you, though. One showing a Hero riding a great bird, another showing the same Hero and a young woman in a strange outfit, a large jewel on her chest.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cCpAFkdy9Ls

As Sheik moves past the figure, the strangely dressed woman glows a soft blue color for a moment. Both you and Sheik notice this, stopping for a moment. Aveli and Zas approach the first Beamos, that Zas managed to destroy, noticing you two stopping. “Something up?”

“...There may be a hint through this maze.” you comment, calling them both to you. “This woman... Zas, if you can find images of her, it might be a clear path.”

Zas takes a moment to observe her, then nods, floating onwards. The three of you continue on behind him, Zas stopping you as you approach the next Beamos. “I will draw its fire. Continue, quickly.”

He makes his way for the statue... Aveli rushing in behind him. As light gathers around the Beamos’ eye, the little Iron Knuckle runs up and smashes it with her massive sword, ending it quickly. You and Sheik look to each other, then continue on ahead cautiously. The next Beamos almost spots her, but she quickly tosses a dagger in its eye, blinding it momentarily as you run up and give a fierce stab from your sword, breaking its eye completely.

“...Or you could do that.”

“We should make sure to not set ourselves up for further risk.” you comment. “I appreciate you trying to help us through, but we can’t risk one of these things catching us and blasting us while our backs are turned.”

>A. Now, we’ll follow you as you look for the woman, Zas
>B. Scout on ahead, make note of any more Beamos, and then we will follow

“In any case, we can not be idle for too long. Lead us ahead, Zas, and keep an eye out for that woman. We will be right behind you.”

The Phantom Knight nods, and you all venture foward. Following your instructions, he keeps scouting ahead to search for carvings with the woman, and keeping an eye out for more Beamos. Thankfully there are only a few more left, and the four of you work to fight each one and bring it down quickly. The first one comes as a bit of surprise, one that almost none of you caught until it was too late, Zas shielding you from a blast from the statue as you strike it down. The next three are dispached far more quickly, Zas and Aveli using the same tactic as before of letting it target the Phantom as the Gerudo girl brings it down, you and Sheik using a similar tactic of letting it target the more agile Sheik as you strike it in the eye.

The final Beamos stands at the exit to the maze, the four of you working together to bring it down. Zas draws its fire as you and Shein slash at it, Aveli smashing her sword across its eye. As the four of you exit the maze, you come to an open room, illuminated by faint, bluish stones acoss the walls and the few bits of light coming in from outside. At the end of the room stands a statue of the woman... overseeing a blade stuck in a pedestal.

“Girls, can you bring your swords over this. There may be some details on it.” you ask, walking to the sword. You read the first inscription aloud, “‘Courageous Hero, valiant and strong, the Wisdom of ages will right that which is wrong. Blade of the Goddess, defender of her Heir, bring forth its Servants, and to the Hero the Temple will share.’”

Aveli brings her sword over it. A faint glow shines from the pedestal, revealing text upon the side. “‘From skies above, with peerless power, the Master will light the darkest hour.’”
And then Sheik, text appearing on the opposite side. “‘Should darkness block your path to the Master, Time’s call will save it from disaster.’”

You take a deep breath. You’re almost done. You now need to pull the sword...

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CbWWRvgdxGA

Your hands wrap around the grip of the hilt, and in a swift motion, you free the sword from the stone it resides in. You raise the sword high in the air, a faint blue glow coming off of it. Evil’s Bane is within your reach... but this blade on its own is certainly no slouch.

You now have the [Servant Sword of Nayru].

[RNG: - Mid]
[ATK: - 7]

The three swords shine together brightly, a comforting warmth coming from their glow. But... there is something else you have to do. You bring out your harp, playing the Song of Time once more.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mf_-rCTbwKc

Loud clicks can be heard in the distance, as if turning gears finally moved into place. You take your blade in hand and smile at the girls, then raise it upwards. “Evil’s Bane is within our grasp, let us bring it forth, to protect everyone, to protect Hyrule!”

All right folks, that's it for this thread. Thank you all for sticking with this through the week. Did y’all have fun?

It was a great thread.

Tons of fun! Thanks for running, Kato.

I have to say, I like how the Temple's gone. Your references to previous things related to both the Temple of Time and Master Sword were pretty neat. Also am I reading that right? The new sword is more than twice as strong as our old one?
>>
I get the feeling there wouldn't have been a nice three sword puzzle, had we not brought two allies on our adventure.

But maybe the temple of time is just designed with the exact future in mind.
>>
>>1344494
Always boss
>>
>>1344498
Glad to hear, anon!

Sheik does not like being teased.

>>1344508
Thanks for playing!

I've just been trying to do what I think would be fun for y'all, working things together so it fits the trials you're going through.

And yes, you are reading that right.

>>1344511
Believe it or not, this Temple was originally designed to be completed by one person, but at the same time, not just any person. Circumstances have changed the flow of it a bit, what with the Darknuts barging in.

That said, it IS the Temple of Time, and those responsible for this latest remodel were definitely thinking of how to best prepare future generations.
