“Today, we will be demonstrating our training not just to our friends from Camp Gagetown, Saint Gloriana, and Zhou Enlai, but also to our newly arrived friends from Robert A. Heinlein, George Washington, and J. Walter Christie!” Dix Hauser and crew along with Carolina Greene and Perrine Hobart had arrived earlier this morning. The team was gathered and assembled to meet your former foes and in the case of Mei Xiang, future foe. Griselda addresses you all sternly. “I should expect everyone to be on their best behavior, and show them what LGA tankers can do. Try not to trouble our guests. Dismissed!”

The first thing everyone did was start introducing themselves. Dix Hauser was accommodating to everybody. Serafina asks her, “Our Pershing is quite a heavy beast. Do you have any tips on how to manage it?”

“Pershings are not medium tanks, suffice to say,” says Dix. “Actually, I can show you a thing or two during your training today. The thing about the Pershing is that it’s somewhere between a medium and a heavy tank. There’s a sort of balance you have to understand with it.” The Poles immediately gather around Dix and start taking notes from her.

Carolina and Rosehip meanwhile… “Greene-san!” Carolina looks to Rosehip, smiling happily. “I hear you have the best horses in all of the Academies!”

“You heard right!” says Carolina. She whistles loudly. Everyone shouts and runs away as a white purebred stallion runs in and steps up to Carolina. “This is one of my nice horses. Wanna take him for a ride?” Rosehip looks in awe of it, stars in her eyes. She wants to ride the horse. Orange Pekoe stands to the side, smilingly politely.

Right, what should you do?

We'll be going on an adventure with Kathy late tonight, so it may be wise to get a little training in early. It certainly couldn't hurt. That and Arisu is bound to show up with a new technique or two for us.

This is too good a lineup to miss.
>>
>>1328740
I mean this weekend in quest. You still technically have the rest of the week.
>>
>>1328740
We will need to balance recruitment and JJ training. But have faith. We can get another few.
>>
>>1328752
yeah, three days left or am I wrong?

We have not done much have we? We only gained one team, and completed one quest.

with less then half the rosters other teams will be fielding.
>>
>>1328758
Recruiting is not our job. That's Griseldas. and we are swamped at it is.

and another thing, did Griselda even fix up the last two tanks? They been in that depot for weeks.
>>
>>1328761
While you still have three or four days left before the All-Star Game and FleetFest, the tournament proper doesn't resume until the week after the All-Star game.

You technically have two weeks to do things.
>>
>>1328758
We even have one tank that is usable but haven't found anybody to take it.

Not to mention only one more day of practice to get them accumulated to the tank. Which is Thursday.

>>1328784
Not to mention that I expect Gris-Gris is dealing with a metric tonne of stuff for Fleet Fest. Its not like we are the only ones with administrative headaches.

>>1328787
This weekend is All Star...newbies have a lot more time than you think to train.

Please calm down. We will fill out the missing pieces.
>>
>>1328784
okay so what are those events specifically, also why does Griselda have more points then us to enter all-stars.
>>
>>1328791
If we get new newbies. Not to mention we have only three more practice days. And We'll be gone for the week end as well.
>>
>>1328797
1. The All-Star Game is the exhibition game showcasing the best and most popular tankers currently in the NATO League. It pits tankers from the Western League against tankers from the Eastern League. There's no real stakes to it other than showing off your skill.

2. FleetFest is the weeklong rally of the all the Academyships in NATO (the tank organization, not the world military alliance). It's a weeklong festival to do things with other tanks and have loads of fun.

3. Griselda has more points than you because other commanders respect her and her ability to take LGA from bottom of the barrel to first in the division despite fielding a team which has been consistently outnumbered and outclassed in equipment.
>>
>>1328797
Established tanker, CO of the team, Opperates a tank servicably with three people(seriously I expect her kills would be higher with a full staff), flashier than us, better overall stats for armchair analysts, higher fanbase, etc.

Also high drama about whether Ellie would make it
>>
> Take the day off.

Griselda folds her arms, smiling at you. “Taking the day off, Ellie?”

“Yeah.” You nod. “I need to meet someone today so I figured I’d get my practice out of the way early I suppose.”

“Sure.” Griselda rolls up her sleeve, checking her watch. “We can start around after lunch actually. I want the girls to get some time with the other commanders, learn what they can, see how they run their tanks. I especially want them to learn from Dix.” Griselda points to Dix Hauser, who is currently being mobbed by the Poles AND the Historians.

Suvorov asks her, “In your opinion, who is better? Alexander Suvorov or Mikhail Kutuzov?”

Patton grabs Surovov then presses her down like an accordion, getting on top of her to ask Dix a question. “What’s the best tactic for a Panzer III like ours!?”

Clausewitz knocks them both out of the way. “Who’s the best German general of the 20th century!?”

Dix holds up a hand. “First off, Suvorov, support and hit and run tactics due to your piddly gun and ineffective armor against late-war equipment, and Paul von Lettow-Vorbeck.” All the historians look at Dix with respectful awe. “What? I can do history good too! It’s a mandatory subject in the military academy!”

“I can see why,” you say.

Griselda smiles. “Go ahead and relax for now. I’ll set things up for practice today.” With that, she walks away from you.

In a perfect world, I would rather we get a chance to talk with everyone. But Perrine kinda fits our usual M.O. of blue collar tankery, even if we go about it different ways.

Though I would not be against hanging with Dix or Meryl more too. So I guess you could say I am voting for 3.

“What are you guys doing?” you ask.

Winona, Josephina, Ingrid, and Stack are cleaning the inside of the tank it seems. “We’re cleaning the tank.” Candy bar wrappers, soda cans, all that stuff. Huh. You’d have expected all that stuff to be thrown away during their cleanings but whatever. Winona leans over, whispering in your ear. “Just between you and me, I’ve been letting Cuddles sleep in the tank occasionally.”

“Winona, what did I say?” You sigh.

“I know! But it’s warm in there!” she says.

Stack hefts a six pounder shell on her shoulder. “Hey, Ellie! So you’re doing practice early with us?”

“Yeah,” you say. “There’s stuff I have to do today with Kathy Wheeler.”

“Awww… someone’s cheating on their boyfriend,” says Ingrid.

“How about you fuck off the-“ Orange Pekoe and Rosehip come on over. “… Orange Pekoe, Rosehip! Hiiii!” You smile at them, grinning. “What’s up?”

“We came to see your tank,” says Rosehip. “Wow!” Rosehip looks at it in awe. “You know, our seniors used to use Cromwells in their lineup. I plan on integrating more into our team in the future!” Orange Pekoe sighs, rubbing her cheek a bit. Josephina climbs down and immediately towers over Rosehip. “Whoa! Are you her driver?” Josephina nods, nervously. “Cool! Can I drive it, Zumwalt-san?”

“Huh?” You tilt your head.

“I just want to take it for a lap!” says Rosehip. “Don’t worry, I won’t crash it!” She leans in. “Between you and me, Carolina thinks she can beat me in a race. I want to put her in her place.” She claps her hands together, bowing to you. “Please allow me to use your tank!”

You look to Orange Pekoe. She shakes her head. Oh. Uh.

You sigh. “I’ll allow it as long as Josephina supervises. You know how to drive a tank right?” you ask.

“Oh of course!” Rosehip nods violently. “But my crew begged me to become a commander due to my superior organization skills!” … really. Okay then. With that though, Josephina helps Rosehip into your tank. You, Stack, Ingrid, Orange Pekoe, and Winona watch as Josephina walks Rosehip through the controls. And surprisingly smoothly, she rolls out of the garage relatively easily!

That is, until she knocks the tank against the Churchill. “Sorry, sorry!” Everyone looks over at Rosehip. “My bad!” She reverses the tank a bit to get some room, but crashes it against a support pillar. “My bad, my bad!” She moves it forward again, finally leaving the hangar.

What have you done?

Orange Pekoe smiles a little. “Shall we have lunch then?”

-

-

Everyone has laid out picnic baskets and blankets on the training grounds to eat a spread of lunch, courtesy of Carolina Greene. It consists of things like pie, ham, egg, cheese sandwiches, chips, and juice. There’s even some cake thrown into the mix as well. You watch as Rosehip powers your Cromwell around the track to face off against the Carolina’s M24 Chaffee. Why Rosehip didn’t just ship her own tank over, you’ll never know. At least she isn’t crashing it.

Perrine and Dix have a bit of a talk as you watch. “I just don’t get it,” says Dix. “What’s the deal with the prototype tanks? They don’t fight as effectively as real ones.”

“Fun mostly,” says Perrine. “There’s a saying you know, you won’t fear the man who practices something a thousand times, but you’ll fear the man who’s practiced everything one time.”

“That-…” Dix squints a little. “I’m not sure how that applies.”

“Ah, well, c’est la vie,” says Perrine.

Orange Pekoe takes a sip of tea, smiling to the three of them. “That’s life.”

Winona munches on her sandwich, then slowly she leans over and lays down onto your lap. Ugh. Winona. “We should probably get to practicing.” That’s right, yeah. You all stand up. “Just so you get to your thing with Wheeler.”

“Elodie Zumwalt.” You turn around to see Mei Xiang. Her crew of Chinese girls stand behind her. “I would like to spar with you.”

“Huh?” Everyone looks at her, confused.

She steps up to you. “Something the matter? I only wish to see how good your teachings are.” She motions back to show you a very pristine Centurion tank being trucked in. “I even brought my tank and my crew.”

You shrug. “We’re here to practice, but if you insist I think we should give it some stakes.” Mei quirks her brow, curious. “You win, I’ll stop learning techniques from the Shimada Household. And if I win, I get something from you. Like a tank.” You point to the Centurion. “That tank.”

She steps in front of your pointing. “I can put a Centurion down to bet. But I will not put down -that- Centurion.” You tilt your head. Oh?

“She won’t bet the Centurion?” asks Winona.

“Well, think of it like this,” says Ingrid. “You got a lot of Star Wars figurines to bet, would you risk losing your Boba Fett even if you could win easily?” Winona squints for a second then nods slowly. She understands.

“We’ll talk later about it,” you say.

“If you are so confident, then I won’t enforce that you learn from the Shimada Household,” says Mei. “You could learn everything from the Shimadas, the Nishizumis, from Kursk and from Michael Wittman’s ghost, but you will not ever match me as a tanker.” She turns around, walking to her tank. “Prepare yourself.”

Winona walks up to you. “So we’re sparring with her?” You nod. “Oh jeez.”

After you wrangled your tank back from Rosehip, the spar was set.

> ELODIE R. ZUMWALT (Cromwell VIIw LT “Oliver”)

> MEI XIANG (Centurion Mark I “The Shimada Special” *LEGENDARY*)

The scene was now the training grounds, with eight medium height dirt berms big enough to disguise both of your hulls but not your turrets. With a distance of only five hundred meters between you two and the dirt berms in between, this was practically anybody’s game. With that 17 pounder though, she can penetrate you from any range.

Your crew looks a bit nervous. “This is going to suck,” says Ingrid.

“We’ll be fine,” says Winona.

“Let the spar begin!” Griselda fires off a flare, signaling the start. Everyone watches from the side, sitting on or standing around their tanks.

Mei’s first move is to pop several smoke canisters. She starts spinning the tank in place, dispersing more smoke and even some dust into the air. In just a few seconds, she’s immediately disappeared. Damn. So she didn’t take the first shot then. Fine, she’s giving up the initiative to you.

Fire the Smoke mortars close range to our right, then traverse the turret back and fire a smoke shell to our left, we too can pull a disappearing act. Once we've smoked up, double back out of the smoke and around the left flank at top speed, using the berms for cover as we advance.

“Smoke mortar to the right, Stack, then a smoke shell to the left.” The smoke bomb goes off close by on your right. And your smoke shell goes off on your left, dispersing a wide cloud of smoke all around you. You wait for the smoke clouds to billow up. It probably doesn’t look very entertaining, but at this close range, whoever gets first sight wins. And you are not intending on getting spotted so early. “Take us left, Josephina, flank speed.”

Once the smoke cloud is up, your tank goes zooming around out of the smoke around the left flank. You hug the berms closely. Once you’re past, you’ve basically outflanked her entirely. You look through with your binoculars. Probably not needed at only half a kilometer’s distance but oh well.

If you predict her correctly. Mei will probably use the smoke to screen her movement. She won’t bother with outflanking you as long as she keeps to cover outside of the smoke.

Nothing so far.

“Where is she?” asks Stack.

“You think we know?” asks Winona.

“Ugh, ask a stupid question you get a stupid answer,” says Stack.

You hear a loud revving behind you. You look back to see Mei creeping out of the smoke cloud. “Forward now!” Josephina kicks the tank forward. The loud snapping of the 17 pounder almost deafens. But thankfully, her shot goes wide. “Traverse right, traverse right!” The turret starts spinning right. But not before Mei comes back into the smoke. “Damn! We missed her! Careful, careful!”

She’s retreated back into the smoke. Damn it!

“Put some WP on her last position, go.” Stack loads in the shell. Winona fires, splattering white sparkling smoke on Mei’s last known position. No sign of Mei again just yet. “Alright. Circle around the left, keep out of the smoke. We spot her again, we’ll fire another WP shell.”

Hopefully what you’ll do here is corral Mei into a spot where you can shoot at her and she can’t. If she wants to move into the WP, that’s her prerogative. But she’ll likely stay in the smoke where it’s safe. Your tank circles around the left further, keeping a close eye out. Come on, Mei. Come on. Where are you? You hear the revving of her engine again in the smoke. It’s getting closer, closer… “Fire another shot!” You plant a WP shell hopefully right into her path. The WP joins the cloud of smoke. There we go!

You look backwards to see Mei sweeping around the smoke around your rear. Her treads start spinning independently, spinning around into a hard powerslide.

Oh fuck, that’s a Nishizumi hook! “Left stick!” You start turning the tank left. But then suddenly, she doesn’t stop.

She’s accelerating AT YOU. THAT’S NOT A HOOK AT ALL.

Why counter when we could counter attack? Spin, deploy smoke to temporarily blind her before she finishes her Manoeuvre, so she can't see us counter charge. Then fire an HE round as we get close, which should through combination of muzzle blast and explosive concussion disperse the smoke letting us see her long enough to essentially execute an abbreviated Nishi Hook, except instead of making our 'flick' some distance from her inside edge, we make it at spitting distance, blinding her with the mud thrown up, then execute a hook around to the side or rear and execute with the APDS shot.

“Smoke, smoke!” Stack fires a smoke bomb out, clouding you before she can finish the charge. “Load HE, Stack, go, go!” Stack rams an HE shell down the breech. Ready. “Fire!” As you spin in place, the HE shell goes shooting out in Mei’s general direction. Just what you need. It pops behind her before it can harm anybody. “Right, Josephina, on my go!”

Your tank starts speeding at her. She fires another shot, which gashes the turret. Winona and Stack yell out as the concussion rattles the turret. “Right, now!” you order. Mei pokes her head out, watching. Once she sees you start to move right for the flick, she orders the tank to spin the opposite direction. Too late to back out now! Your tank slings some mud onto the face of her tank, into her gunsights hopefully, even right at Mei. She covers her face as the tank starts facing its front towards you.

Wait. That’s not how it’s supposed to go! Damn it, she saw you coming! Your tank slides down, hoping to get the side. But instead, it catches the front. The APDS shot however should penetrate at point blank! “Now, fire!” you scream. Mei yells out in Chinese. Her gun barrel scrapes against you, slinging the sights off target. Winona fires.

The shot screams across the turret, sending a huge gash into the paint. Mei looks at it, then slams her fist down. She yells out again, forcing your gun barrel aside to face hers into your turret. Your barrels scratch and grind up against each other. Her gun fires again, deafening you for a second. No impact, just another scratch. The two of your tanks ram up against each other.

Stalemate. Exactly what you feared. She glares at you, mud dripping down her cheek and her hair and her sleeves. She calls out another order. Her tank starts pressing up against you, her gun barrel forcing your gun up and away from her. Your tracks scratch and grind against each other. Something’s going to give soon.

You cover your mouth. “Stack, ready illumination!” Stack nods, loading a Star shell into the bomb thrower. “Right, on my go!” You blink. Right. This is either going to go extremely well or extremely poorly. You take a deep breath. Pray to God that Winona does not let this slip to the rest of the team. “Winona!”

“Yeah!?” Winona has her focus set on fighting the barrel off.

“Listen. You can’t tell anyone else this. This is probably a bad time to say it-“ Mei glares at you, wiping more mud off of her face. “I KISSED JEEP JOCKEY!”

Stack and Winona stop what they’re doing. They look up at you. “What!?” they both yell.

Winona grins, coming up with you into the command hatch. “REALLY!? WHAT WAS IT LIKE!? OH TELL ME, TELL ME! WAS IT NICE!?” She hugs you. Okay, you were not expecting that reaction. “Ooooh, my Zumzum has finally gotten a kiss from a boy! You have to tell me everything-“

“Stack!” You cover your eyes. You shove Winona down into the hatch. Stack fires the shot. Mei covers her eyes, ducking down into the cupola. The barrels unconjoin, now free to maneuver. “Winona, now, now!”

“But-“

“FIRE!” Your gun barrels lock down and fire. You’re both engulfed in hot black smoke from the recoil and explosions.

Once the smoke clears. You and Mei glare at each other from across your tanks. You look down.

Mei’s tank has a hole right in her turret ring.

You have a hole right in your turret ring.

Both of you have a white flag stood up.

> MUTUAL KO: Elodie R. Zumwalt (Cromwell VIIw LT “Oliver”) – Mei Xiang (Centurion Mk I “Shimada Special”)

Stack rubs her face. “…” She looks over at you. “So what was it like?”

Ingrid pokes her head up. “I heard Ellie kissed a boy. What happened!? Did he force you to do it!?”

Winona gasps. “Don’t tell me he kissed you without your consent, Ellie!”

“Was it romantic at least?” asks Josephina hopefully.

Griselda climbs up the back of your turret. “What’s this I hear about Ellie kissing somebody? Winona, did you finally do it?” Winona breaks out into a blushing, giggling fit.

Eugh… You step off the tank, then move on over to Mei. “Mei. Good fight.” You offer your hand. She shakes your hand. There’s still some mud on it, splattered on her palm. Yuck. You quickly let go then take a rag from your skirt pocket and wipe up. “It’s a shame, looks like neither of us are going to get what we want.” You smile, looking at the Centurion. “I could’ve used that tank.”

“You can have the tank when I’m dead,” says Mei. You smile, chuckling a little. Mei glares at you.

Oh, she’s completely serious. Wow, she must really love that tank. You nod to Mei. “Well then there’s…” You check your watch. “Oh boy. I gotta get going somewhere. I’ll meet up with you guys later, okay?”

“Where are you going?” asks Griselda. You start running through the crowd.

“Is it Jeep Jockey?” asks Winona.

“It’s not Jeep Jockey!” you yell.

> TACTICAL MANEUVER LEARNED: The Shimada Thrust – 30 CP
> As the Nishizumi Hook became more popular in the circle of brawlers, so too did countermeasures dealing with it. The Shimada Thrust is a modified Nishizumi Hook. Instead of using the sliding to brake to feint the turret traverse however, the driver will use that energy to propel the tank forward to ram the tank before it has a chance to do anything. Requiring precision and good skill at the controls, this is a tough maneuver, but is a far more survivable alternative to the Nishizumi Hook against foes who are used to countering it.

You walk along the streets of LGA. As you do so, Denise and Mulcahy roll up on the Kettenkrad. “I heard you kissed Jeep Jockey! When did this happen!? How did that boy steal your purity from you, Ellie!? Did he steal it in the night when you were asleep!?”

“I did not!” you say. “Look. It’s a long story.”

Denise bites her handkerchief as she drives her Kettenkrad. “Oh, woe! How could we have let this moment slip from us, Mulcahy!” Mulcahy shakes her head. She knows it’s a lie apparently. Thank God.

You arrive at the campus. Hm. Six O’clock. Where is she? You see her dogs running around the courtyards but…

You walk up to one of the dogs. He sits down, panting happily, his tongue hanging from his mouth. You kneel down and pet him on the head. He whines and squeals happily. “Poor boy. Though, if you’re here, then it’s likely Kathy is around here too somewhere.” You stand up. Hm, where could she be? Eh, you’ll wait by the dogs. Where her dogs are, she’s likely to be around. Another dog paces around you, while more come up to Denise and Mulcahy.

Mulcahy shyly pets a dog. “You know, I never do interact with doggos much.” The dog barks, making her flinch.

Hm. You fold your arms. You wonder if-

“Psst.” You blink. You look to one of the garden bushes by the wall around the courtyard. Kathy pokes her head up. “Oh, there’s Kathy.” You walk up to her.

“Kathy, what are you doing hiding in the-“ She grabs your arm and pulls you in.

Denise and Mulcahy gasp. “THE BUSH ATE ELLIE!” screams Denise. “AAAHH-“ She grabs Denise and Mulcahy quickly too, placing her hands over their mouths. You glare at Kathy. What’s the big idea here!?

Kathy looks frantic however. “I told you to come alone!”

“They’re fine,” you say. “You know them.”

“Ugh.” Kathy sighs, letting them go. Denise and Mulcahy remain quiet, but look spitefully in Kathy’s direction. “Listen. I got word on a really, REALLY, valuable haul. Something that’ll knock your socks off. You’re ready for this? Are you ready?” You nod. “Good. There’s something buried under the school here. Something really expensive, valuable, too valuable to put in a museum and far more dangerous than a nuclear weapon!”

You squint. “Really?”

“Well, that last part is exaggeration. Now, you didn’t hear this from me but-“ She looks out, then gasps. She shoves your head down. “Get down!” You all crouch as low as you can. You watch as a car rolls into the courtyard. A police car. You watch as a few Hall Monitors step out and start moving into the campus. “… I can’t do this while the Hall Monitors are here!”

“What do you mean- what is buried under the school!?” you whisper.

“Do you really want to know?” she asks. “Do you really?”

“I think I can handle it,” you say.

“Fine.” She sighs. “I did some research. And there’s evidence that underneath the statue of the Marquis de La Fayette, is a tank of pure gold!”

“What.”

“In the 1970s, the US Army wanted to recruit potential girls into their US Army Armor school from the Tankery Program. So some recruiters called in a lot of favors, and built a replica Sherman tank out of pure gold! Think about it, an entire Sherman’s weight in gold! Completely functional too!”

“I can’t imagine a Sherman functioning while being made of gold,” you say bluntly.

“BUT! Hippies. Hippies are always a savage, primitive, bunch of people,” she mutters. “Do nothing except smoke weed and apparently steal golden tanks and bury them under the school! And now!” She pulls out a map. “I’ve been tracking this map and their clues for weeks now. And I’ve finally pieced it together!” She points to the statue of the Marquis de La Fayette. “It’s under the statue!”

“… Let me get this straight.” She nods. “You think there’s a solid gold Sherman tank buried under the Marquis.”

“Yes.”

Walk me through the logic. Show me the clues.

I'm sure there's something there, but I doubt its a golden Sherman who's mass is enough to cause global economic shenanigans.

> “You’re nuts.”
> “So how do we get it out then?”

“You’re nuts.” You stare at her. “You’re telling me that the US Army decided the best recruiting gimmick they could come up with was showcasing a solid gold Sherman tank, and somehow they let it be stolen by hippies who buried it under the Marquis as a show of protest and nobody’s ever talked about it since?”

“Yeah.” She shrugs. “Big coverup really.”

You sigh. “… so how do we get it out then?” you ask.

“Simple. We’re going to have to uproot the statue of the Marquis de La Fayette. Problem is that the courtyard that’s above the tank is solid concrete. They added all that in ’89. So basically, we’re going to either need to tunnel to it from outside the school or…” The shadows fall on you four. You all look up.

O’Keere and O’Keefe. They stare at you. “Kathy Wheeler. Why am I not surprised that ye been stalking about where ye shouldn’t be. It’s after hours for summer classes, no fecking trespassing!”

“Hey!” Kathy stands up, glaring at them. “I have every right to come into the campus. What if I need to see a teacher?” They do not look convinced. “W-… what if I forgot my backpack?” Still not convinced. “Look. I’m telling you, you-“

“There is no fecking golden tank under the statue!” says O’Keere. “I dunno what fecking light hopsy Protestant beer you’ve been drinking, but it’s clearly having an effect! Now get the fecking fuck outta here! You too, Zumwalt! And you too, Mulcahy!”

Mulcahy blinks. “But I’m the same rank as you, O’Keere!”

“That’s what you think ya limey English fuck!” yells O’Keere. “Now get outta here! Go!”

The four of you start marching out. “This isn’t over, O’Keere!” yells Kathy. “The archaeologist shall always triumph!”

“Yeah, yeah, keep walking, fecking Indiana Jonesy fecking loon!” O’Keefe yells back. The two Hall Monitors stare you all down as you walk out of the campus. “And take your dogs with ya, don’t forget ya fecking peanut butter for the lads too! Ahaha!” The two Hall Monitors laugh and howl at that.

Kathy grumbles, her dogs following behind. “Damn Hall Monitors. They’ve been foiling my progress ever since I told them!” She looks to you. “We have got to get that tank! If it’s the last thing we do!”

“Well, I have faith in you at least, Kathy.” You and her stop up at a street corner. Her dogs sit, waiting for her to continue. “Listen, I think we need to take more time to figure this out. You’re sure it’s there.”

“Definitely!” says Kathy. She shows you the map. “I had to do a lot of things to get this map, don’t ask.” You take a look at it. Paperclipped to the map too were actual photos of the golden tank, newspaper clippings as well, along with articles of its disappearance. “I concluded that it has to be buried underneath the Marquis because at the time of the 1970s, that courtyard was more of a park. They paved over it in 89. The tank was set up in the courtyard as a showcase.”

“And how did you conclude they buried it underneath the statue?” you ask.

“Hmph! Simple,” she says. “Hippies are lazy. They wouldn’t have taken it far and any vehicle they would’ve owned at the time would not have been able to tow it out of there unless they asked the Tankery team for help! And of course the Tankery team would never assist them in doing such a thing!”

“…”

“But seriously, I just asked Miss McPherson, she confirmed that the hippies did steal it,” she says. Right.

“Do you have anybody who can help us with this?” you ask.

“I have top men working on it now,” says Kathy. “Top men!” You tilt your head, skeptical. “… okay, it’s my cousin at Harvard. She’s a student in their archaeology course so… she’s helping me get some things together.” She twiddles her fingers a little. “B- But! She’s competent! Don’t worry! And-…” She gasps, wrapping her arm around you. “Get this! I have a load of freshmen who are interested in becoming part of an Archaeology club here on LGA!”

“Really?”

“Really!” Kathy lets go. “Anyway! I think I shall go get some dinner, Ellie! I am going to make some gains tomorrow, just you wait! We are going to formulate a plan to get that tank out of there!” She rubs her hands together, grinning madly. “Hehehe! Just you wait, Hall Monitors! If Adventure has a name, it has to be Kathy Wheeler! Haha!” With that, Kathy Wheeler walks away, maddened by her desire for the tank.

Denise steps up to you. “What a strange girl.” She looks at you. “You don’t seriously believe there’s actually a golden tank underneath the statue of the Marquis, do you?”

“Well, there’s photos and newspaper clippings,” you say. “Plus, I can actually see the US Army doing that stupid to get people to enlist. Hm. We’ll have to see.”

Denise nods slowly. “… s-… So.” She looks at you, twiddling her fingers slightly. “What was it?” Huh? “Kissing a boy.”
