Welcome to Spirit Detective Quest! This quest, as the title suggests, takes place in the world of Yu Yu Hakusho, though it does not take place during the events of the show. You're a young highschooler, one who will find himself granted the title of Spirit Detective, and will be charged with tracking down demons and other supernatural criminals.

>Rules

Each time I make an update, there will be a ten minute window in which you can vote between various options I have provided. Write-ins are accepted and encouraged, but I do reserve the right to veto them. Once ten minutes have passed, the option (or suitable combination) with the most support will win.

You can choose multiple options, but be mindful of when that doesn't take any sense. Saying you want to go talk to someone and then talk to someone else in one post doesn't make much sense.

Also, in combat, I may veto selecting multiple options depending on how feasible that seems.

As far as combat, you will roll to attempt different options. I will not tell you what the number needed is ahead of time, so use your heads and balance risk/reward. Sometimes, you should take riskier options if they can yield greater payoff. Other times, it's best to play it safe. Use your judgement.

This is not Dragonball, and while there are sometimes ways to bring back the dead, they are few and far between, so do not assume that anybody you kill/let die will be coming back.

I hope you all have fun.

"Aria, keep in the middle of the group," you tell your assistant.

She nods, and Stephanie takes the lead as your team makes its way into the ruined house, seeking out the entrance to the demon lair.

It doesn't take all that much searching to find what you're looking for. Any upper levels the structure may have once had clearly burnt away long ago, and the entrance is in one of the few spots not covered by rubble.

It's a simple thing; a hole with a ladder leading down into the darkness. Not exactly inviting, but not all that intimidating, either.

"I'll go first," Stephanie volunteers.

"Alright," you tell her before looking to the others. "Aria, you're behind me, Damon, guard the rear."

"Alright," Damon says, not sounding particularly pleased about being stuck in the back, but not protesting.

Aria, on the other hand, seems happy to be in the middle of the group, and gladly approaches as you turn around to follow Stephanie.

The other Detective has apparently already dropped down beneath the ground, and you climb down the ladder to follow. It's a very short climb, and you find yourself standing in a narrow tunnel lit by torches lining the walls. The space is so small that you have to take care as you follow Stephanie, making sure your face isn't scorched. Luckily, as the trail slopes downward, the tunnels expand, giving you a bit more room.

"Surprised nobody found this place before," Damon comments. "It's not exactly well hidden."

"I'm sure somebody has," Stephanie comments from ahead of you. "They just never got the chance to tell anyone about it."

There's only one way to go, and Damon seems to lose his sense of self when he attempts to track demons, so you decide not to broach that subject with your friend.Still, you can't help but glance at your compass as you continue down the tunnel, confirming that you're heading in the direction of the demoness that nearly took your life.

Soon, the tunnel expands even further, and you find yourself in a wide, cavernous space, more properly lit by a large number of torches, which reveal to you the creature already occupying the "room".

He is a massive creature, looking almost like a horned gorilla. He has gray fur, massive fists, and a predatory look in his eyes. It's as if he's already playing out the deaths of you and your friends in his mind.

"So, Silisha was wrong," he grumbles, his voice seeming to rumble all around you. "You were able to track her."

Letting out a sudden, loud roar of frustration, he slams a massive fist against the ground in front of him, leaving a hole from the impact. Fury shines in his eyes as he examines your group.

"I'LL RIP HER TO SHREDS!" he declares, rising up onto two legs and letting out another roar. "After I've crushed your bones!"

>A. You'll take this one

"No, I think he's right," Steph comments, sounding almost bored. "Should we all even bother fighting? One of us can take him down alone."

You leap back as the creature's fists come slamming down, avoiding being smashed into paste by his strike. Then, you make an attempt to attack, rushing forward and heading for his arms, intending to run up one and attack his face.

You aren't that lucky. As you draw close and leap forward, the creature swings one of his massive fists upward, catching you in the gut and sending you flying toward the roof of the cavern. The wind is knocked right out of you, and as you begin to fall, you brace yourself for further pain.

Fortunately, Stephanie is there to catch you, and sets you down on the ground as Damon cautiously circles the creature, who attempts to backhand him.

Damon produces a shield, but the force of the impact still sends him flying back and into a painful-looking crash against the wall.

"Alright, I'll draw his attention, attack from behind while he's distracted," the other detective instructs, breaking into a dash toward the monster.

You don't see a flaw in her plan, and this battle is not up to a promising start. So, you decide to listen, waiting as she draws the beast's attention away from Damon, and begins to avoid various blows from the creature. She does not strike back, and therefore does not make herself any more vulnerable to the moves of the beast.

Once the creature's back is to you, you rush forward, leaping at the creature. The height to which you rise is astounding, and while you don't push yourself high enough to strike at the back of his head properly, you rise just high enough to kick between the shoulder blades, causing the beast to stagger and stumble forward.

It's at that moment that Stephanie makes her move, rushing forward and leaping toward the beast.

Putting two and two together, and realizing what your fellow detective is about to do, you quickly move out of the way, safely avoiding the creature as it's knocked onto its back by a kick to the face.

As the beast slams onto the ground, Stephanie lands in a crouch, springing forward and rushing in for another attack. The monster begins to rise, glaring hatefully at the girl, who quickly moves in, striking not at his face, but at his gut, catching him off-guard.

The beast lets out a half-pained, half-shocked noise as Stephanie's fist slams into his gut, and begins to hunch over.

Stephanie's got the creature distracted, wounded, and vulnerable. This is the perfect time to finish the job.

As the beast attempts to catch the nimble fighter, you rush in from the side, moving with all of your speed and leaping up toward the creature's head. A kick to the bottom of its nose is all it takes, and the beast falls dead to the ground in front of you and Stephanie.

"You'll get a chance," you promise her.

"Yes, I suppose she will," another voice cuts in.

Turning toward the noise, you see a familiar figure that makes your blood boil.

Though nearly all men would consider her pleasing to the eye, her long, raven hair, full, red lips, bodacious body, and hypnotizing eyes fill you with nothing but anger.

She sways her hips as she steps forward, holding the whip at her side as she looks upon your group with a smirk on her face. She adopts a wicked grin upon seeing Damon, but when her eyes rest on you, that grin is replaced with a scowl.

"I'd planned on seeing you again, William," she admits, stopping where she is. "But not like this. How rude, spurning a woman then stalking her and breaking into her home."

"You must be Silisha," Stephanie guesses.

The demoness glances toward your fellow detective. "And you are?"

"I'm a Spirit Detective," the girl answers with a smirk. "And I don't find you nearly as pretty as the guys here do."

Silisha chuckles. "I can't help being so irresistible."

Silisha growls in your direction. "That's pretty big talk, little boy. It wasn't very long ago that I had you kneeling at my feet. But if you're in the mood for some more punishment, by all means, come to momma!"

Stephanie groans. "Now I want to puke."

"Everyone else stay back," you instruct, stepping toward the scowling female demon. "I have a score to settle."

"Will, are you sure that's a good idea?" Aria chimes in.

"Koenma told me what happened last time," Stephanie tells you. "What makes you think it won't end up the same?"

"I got this," you assure the girls. "Just gotta watch that one crooked tooth of hers. That throws the whole affect off."

"YOU THINK YOU'RE FUNNY?!" Silisha shrieks, leaping into the air and unfurling her whip. "WE'LL SEE HOW LONG YOU KEEP LAUGHING!"

The whip comes cracking down, but you aren't there when it arrives. Instead, you've leaped back, watching as Silisha lands and comes rushing for you, swinging her whip wildly in an effort to slice you to ribbons.

She nearly succeeds, but you manage to avoid her attacks by the skin of your teeth, desperately seeking out some sort of opening in the process.

The others move out of the way as you're quickly backed through the cavern, given no choice but to surrender ground to the bitch as her rapid, furious attacks promise instant death if you make a single wrong move.

Despite your efforts, you can't find an opening. She's attacking far too quickly for you to reasonably dodge and make a counterattack. You're going to have to take a risk here, one way or another.

>A. Keep holding out and pray that she slips up before too long

Can we channel energy into it without her noticing, in order to increase its flight speed when we throw at her right at the moment she attempts to make a big swing with her whip. Won't be able to react in time if we succeed or at least catch her by surprise for us to at least close the distance between us, making harder for her to swing her whip.

There aren't many options left for you. The Spirit Gun seems to be your best chance. As you continue to narrowly avoid death by whipping, you form a gun with your hand and point it toward Silisha, channeling your Spirit Energy and unleashing it in a flash of light.

The demon, realizing what you're about to do, takes to the air, avoiding the attack and flipping over you. She lands behind you and turns, striking with her whip. By then, you're already on the move, and her whip only manages to cut through your clothes, not your flesh.

You spin around, faced with a glaring, scowling demon who seems more than ready for round two.

>>
>>1295150

>>
>>1295125
>Apparently the other anons don't seem to care enough to create things

For now I'm happy to have him specialize in focusing his spirit energy in different parts of his body to enhance their effectiveness. Do you view this as an actual path he could specialize in Som, or do you just see it as thats just how fighting is done in general in this setting?
>>
>>1295155
We can do both.
>>
>>1295157
Mostly the latter, but you could do the former in the form of certain attacks

>>1295158
So you say
>>
>>1295158
not if we are dead

>>1295157
Still nobody takes the effort to use such specialization.
>>
>>1295162
So Will is goign to become a kickboxer or a muay thai detective uh?
>>
>>1295164
The only drawback I can see to pumping up our body with a constant flow of spirit energy is the fact that we'd need a monstrous amount of energy to maintain that. If we choose to specialize in something like that, we'd probably be better off using it in short bursts in the beginning.
>>
>>1295167
Maybe

>>1295169
Truth
>>
>>1295146
If the 'Fingerbang' was more reliable for Kek's Will, then maybe i'd revere it more

>First Demon, Beat with wooden plank
>Second, Captured
>Third, 1 out of 6, not bad kid
>Fourth, Didn't kill ourselves/Rider Kick, 2 of 6 if you like semantics
>Fifth, Fled, currently rematching
>Sixth, Kicked to death
>>
Become the kurama of the group, except with human weapons and having our spiritual energy giving them different effects. Like making bullets fired from a gun to have a poisoning effect, cut wounds from knifes won't stop bleeding, etc...
>>
>>1295169
I say we should do the physical enhancement along with spirit energy enhanced weapons to be more of a melee fighter instead of just using spirit gun on everything. We'd need some defensive techniques too though
>>
>>1295162
>Mostly the latter

With dedication and training could we make it the former? What I'm envisioning is a fighter who can focus their spirit energy into a much higher concentration than normal, effectively using the same amount of energy as a spirit gun, over a short period of time. For instance we focus our spirit energy on our speed, and then for the duration of the round our speed is enhanced significantly at the expense of a lot of spirit energy. This is what I mean by specialization.
>>
>>1295186
That's not how Spirit Energy really works

>>1295192
Yeah, Will desperately needs to get stronger
>>
>>1295186
Why stick to just human weapons when we can take demon weapons off of our fallen enemies and slowly amass a collection?
>>
>>1295194
Yeah, you could totally do that

>>1295198
Grievous?
>>
>>1295198
Become a master of Spiritual Arms and Enhancement? Sounds interesting.
>>
>>1295207
The only downside is that we'd have to spend a lot of time training to use the random demon weapons we pick up but I think it'd give us a lot more options in combat and it would be a lot of fun.
>>
>>1295213
Being a well rounded fighter is something we should strive to be, but we do need something to focus on as our forte. Maybe a favorite weapon or some type of technique...
>>
>>1295222
We should start with focusing spirit energy into the blade of our knife, it'd be best to start small and see if a weapon enhancement technique is actually viable
>>
>>1295231
Fair enough. No reason not to test things out and experiment when we get the chance.
Maybe we can lengthen the spirit energy focused into the knife's blade and turn it into a sword in a pinch.
>>
>>1295186
Kurama didn't give his plants special effects, the plants already had those effects and he just grew them with his spirit energy. I would imagine you might be able to empower the damage and speed of a bullet fired from a gun, but you wouldn't be able to give it fancy effects.
