The ground rumbled and the walls shook with the force of nearby explosions, dust and loose bits of scrap falling from the walls and rooftops of the crude town on Scatters that a squad of Necrolytes and Trolls swept through. In the near distance they could hear the shouting and gunfire of their comrades fighting groups of the undead that swarmed out from the buildings made from stacking salvaged starship hulls together.

Rosa, an officer and one of the first members of the Legion, guided her squad down an alley already scored by bulletholes and blaster scorchmarks, casings littering the ground. A netu and another human were right behind her, their shardspitters and bone rifles held at the ready as the rest of their squad, a handful of living soldiers and a group of Trolls, trailed behind and covered their rear.

There was the scrabbling of feet on a metal roof from above and the human behind Rosa lifts up their rifle and lets out a shot in a split second. There was a squeal and a clatter as a vorh ghoul, its chitin splintered and its claws bloodied, fell to the ground before them. With a swift step forward Rosa kicks out with a heavy boot to send it sprawling in the dust before lifting her thermal vibroaxe in one hand and bringing it down with a solid blow to cleave its skull apart. A quick motion and they continue, the corpse kicked to the side.

They could hear more intensive fighting ahead, the light of a building fire making the smoke above them glow as the day on Scatters draws closer to dusk. Rosa stopped as her exosuits HUD alerted her that there was another squad nearby holed up and defending a group of injured survivors in a nearby building made from a dismantled cruiser. With a quick order the Legionnaires and Trolls began to leap into the air with their jump-packs, the sting whip in Rosa's prosthetic limb letting her grapnel up the side of a building faster than the others.

With light distorting behind them as they used their jump-packs to leap across the rooftops they spot the building in question surrounded by a crowd of zombies and ghouls. Another quick order to the squad and they spread out on the buildings while checking their ammo and gear, heavy weapon Trolls awaiting their orders from the Necrolytes.

Rosa steps up to the edge of the former freighter turned shanty tower, the Trolls that carried their own weapons and heavy shields lining up next to her. Her exosuit once again alerted her that extraction was on its way but they needed a clear landing zone. Gripping her vibroaxe tight she takes a deep breath to gather herself even as the electric excitement of battle already started to well up in her. Grinning in pure delight under her armored helm she lifts her ax as her hard-light shield ignites over her other forearm and with a warcry she and the Trolls leap forward to crash down into the crowd of undead, their weapons cleaving through the undead while those above opened fire.

The battle for saving Refuge wages on.

Unlocked:

Bioweapon unlocked:
>Blight Hunger: A powerful pathogen infused with necrotic energy that allows an organic corpse to be reanimated into an undead form, typically referred to as a zombie. The pathogen urges the carrier to spread and infect others by any means necessary but for most undead they rely on inflicting wounds through a bite or clawing attack. As zombified hosts consume more protein biomass and survive for a period of time they will start to mutate becoming faster, stronger, and more aggressive, becoming what is known as a ghoul. From infection to reanimation the time is varied dependent on a variety of factors such as the health and species of the infected and amount of pathogen that was able to be transferred, ranging from a few hours to a few days. A weak psionic command can be imprinted during the pathogens creation allowing a necromancer or other necrotic powered entity attuned to the pathogen to control the undead but they are clumsy and inexact when first reanimated as zombies with some dexterity and intelligence returning upon ghoulification.

>Refuge Pathogen Cure: A medical pod procedure that allows an infected patient a chance to be cured of the undead infection originating in the Refuge system

Molten Weapons:
>Obsidian Blade: Melee weapons crafted from specially forged obsidian glass that is deceptively sturdy and incredibly sharp with the ability to generate extreme heat to add to their cutting power. Despite their jagged and somewhat rough appearance they are finely crafted with stats comparable to the standard thermal vibroblades

>Searing Wave: A heavy weapon made of dense chitin and stone with a large reserve of molten metal kept in a pack. A portion of the molten metal is suspended within powerful magnetic fields before being propelled at extreme speeds launching it as a cone of devastating physical and thermal damage. With a relatively short range it is capable of damaging the integrity of armor and extremely damaging to unarmored targets.

>Searing Spear: A medium weapon resembling a bulkier Spinecaster but similar in function to the Searing Wave by taking a portion of molten metal and using powerful magnetic fields to propel it at great speeds. Unlike the searing wave the searing spear's projectile is intended to travel great distances, the molten payload kept together and molten around a shard of geokinetic obsidian. Possessing decent armor piercing potential, the molten projectile will burst after embedding itself in a target.

Dawn begins to break over Horizon's Drop as you watch from the prow of a Coffin in the upper atmosphere. Even you could admit that Iti'a'Ropku was a spectacular sight as the sunlight hits the tallest towers with their Dirge statues and Reality Beacon crystals topping them sending refracted light down on the city before the sunlight reaches the streets. The living that awoke that early took a special delight in the lightshow as the streets were covered in rainbows of light, motes of ruddy light trailing across the buildings until they were swept away by the rays of the sun fully rising.

In the cosmic distance where the planet curved you could see the Wormstar Fingers stretching from the platforms in orbit to the world below, each space elevator nearly complete and further tightening your grasp on the planet.

The wooden mask rests in you hand as multiple tendrils of flowing black metal drag across it shape and feel every contour, Kyn'tk appearing more and more like a living creature as it explored the strange object. The insectoid face, naturally impassive, seemed to taunt you but you turn your attention elsewhere when you slide it back into the hollow of your ribcage.

Messages and alerts flood in to you as you seat yourself on your throne. With the Voidknights returning from their raid they set about repairing their ships and preparing for another strike if needed. Eiton had already departed with the fleet of decoy Ahkam ships for his own planned raid and the Punishers were also en route on board Obsidianborn ships headed for Ahkam territory.

Satisfied by their reports you realize the Ructu still needed to be granted their elemental gifts now that they've had the time to visit and explore Iti'a'Ropku. The final touches of the Rukorian city were being completed and the city ready for habitation by the next dawn.

A message from the Caretaker states that Ruscuv was nearly completion and only required a final spark of power to grant her unlife. The construct says that it felt you should provide that last bit of power, stating with its new humility that you deserved the honor. Your Think Tanks on site believe it is being less that truthful but say that she does indeed need a burst of power to awaken her now that her physical form has been reconstituted.

Illuminator Tlacex seemed to be spending the day with Jor, speaking with the Necromancer about the Wormstar. They listened with rapt attention when the human speaks about the dreams he seemed to receive from whatever remnants of the Wormstars consciousness that did or did not exist out in the universe. For his part Jor seemed eager to teach and converse with the undead General he helped create.

Further out near the gas giant a group of ships Skip into the system and quickly broadcast a friendly signal to the patrolling ships that aim their weapons in their direction. Clanship Captain Vorlam had arrived but lacking her Clanship. Instead she was at the head of a flight of six frigates, their turrets replaced with harpoon cannons you recognize as being of Esat design. She sends her message for Nekris and the undead General replies in affirmative as his own group of harpoon equipped frigates and a pair of larger cruisers accelerate away from the moon to join up with her. Unsure of how to send a message directly to you the netu captain sends out a broad message of gratitude to you, saying she will treat Nekris will on the trip.

As Nekris departed to join the Pirates he sends a message to you as well saying that he managed to speak with Vle'Karak, the serpent finally starting to break its cold demeanor around the Predator that defeated him. You thank him for being understanding with the old warrior and Nekris laughed, his mandibles clicking together and said that the serpent had interesting stories to share of his past battles and only brought up the fact that Nekris defeated and imprisoned him three times during their conversation.

Elsewhere, nearly two sectors away, an Eyegore completes its long voyage and appears within a distant system with three suns dancing a chaotic orbit around each other. It could sense Arc energy throughout the system, the planets circling the stars heavily populated by Ahkam Dynasty presences but out further in the system was a lone space-station that nonetheless had a guard presence. The Eyegore sheds its drones from within its pocket of warped light and begins the process of observing the system and waiting for the arrival of the mysterious faction that brought the Yikyak meat as tribute to the Arc serpents.

More and more of the refugess from Kanda flock to Iti'a'Ropku to be greeted by the Necrolytes and Red-Leaf-Strains, the osogo necromancer enjoying her role as the one that greeted all who came to the city. She eagerly awaited the arrival of the next Osogo herds drawing closer with each day, happy and beaming with pride to see how the city grew.

A message from the Blackscale Cabal says that more of the Sunscale Workers were awakened with more castes being cloned. They ask if you would like to visit or send one of your Harbingers but do not wish to impose. They of course say the experiment was proceeding wonderfully and by Valresko's assessment they were proceeding within safe parameters so far.

Another message awaited you from the Necrolyte Commander requesting a communication line with you once you have a chance concerning the next steps of saving Refuge.

Departing for a passing Corvette you reroute the sub-capitol to head for the Andai system and Clour. You were surprised by the excitement you felt but realize it would be obvious. Ruscuv would be the first entity from before your imprisonment that you will meet now that you have resurrected the Necrotic Armada. While you have no desire or intent to let her take control of the Armada you were curious to see what she thought of it and your Reconstructed.

Wrapping itself in contorted light and space-time the corvette fires its combi-drive and disappears into the cosmic distance. Seated on the bridge you receive an alert from Eiton stating he was about to launch his raid against the Osjiic. You give him your blessing and move to watch the event as you travel to awaken your sister lich.

R'Jur was a fairly common system with a pair of worlds near the yellow star, a third supporting a healthy ecosystem and housing Osjiic fortresses and fleets, then a dangerously frozen world and a large gas giant rich with potential fuel. Taken rather recently by the Osjiic they have begun preparing the system for future conflicts with the Ahkam with its location within striking distance of the rich systems of Rolan and Tura. Fortresses sprout on the habitable world like stout armored mushrooms, simple mining operations attended to by slaves and drones fueling their construction.

Osjiic fleets stood guard in orbit over the habitable world and the storm-covered inner world with the floating station above the storms. The loss of B'Nan and Kanda had sent the neighboring systems on high alert especially as reports of the Armadan attack in the D'Hrin system reaches them.

While they do seem to fall for the plan of luring away ships to weaken the defenses of R'Jur they only send a small fleet of sub-capitols and a handful of capitol warships to reinforce the damaged fleets of D'Hrin. R'Jur seemed to be of more import to the Empire as their ships increase their vigilant watch. Patrols of strikecraft ran regularly between the heavily armored ships of the Osjiic Empire, their well organized military letting them keep watch over the planets.

They almost seemed to expect the attack when it came, flashes of Skip Drives alerting them to the first of the Ahkam ships that emerged in the system. Eiton had known a Storm Gate would be a poor choice for a raiding attack by making the emergent fleet a giant target for the defenders even though it would further ingrain the ruse of the fleet being truly Ahkam.

The opening salvos of the Osjiic defenders rip through the ships, both decoy and captured, as they detonate in collection of explosions as they were shattered under the attack. Predator Eiton, at the head of a captured Battlecruiser and the fastest of their fleet, quickly began sending orders to the Ahkam ships as they race for the habitable world and unleash their own attacks. Ahkam teardrop fighters, piloted by zombified soldiers and explosive-rigged Pilot Reconstructed, duel with the slower but heavily armored Ahkam strikecraft as their fleets clash.

Kinetic slugs are traded between the attacking fleet and the picket forces, shields glowing bright and crackling or shattering as they exchanged blows that traveled the distance of lightseconds. Osjiic ships began to fail and rupture in explosions of Void energy as they fell toward the planet below, crews struggling to keep their ships aloft or fleeing to their lifepods.

Yet for every Osjiic ship that fell the decoy Ahkam fleet suffered greater losses in return. The Empire was ready for this attack and were mercilessly teaching what they believed to be upstart heathens a lesson in humility.

>>1281169
Predator Eitons own ship began to take fire from Destroyers and other Battlecruisers, its shields glowing nearly opaque around it as it deflects incoming attacks but the Pilots integrated into the metallic and plastic consoles reported that they could not take much more damage. Gritting his teeth in anger he slams his fist on the arm rest of his command chair in frustration and was about to give the command to retreat when there was a sudden alert from a Pilot at the sensors.

A large gravity well was manifesting nearby also detecting a powerful Arc signature. A holoscreen flickers to life with footage from the Eyegore and Eiton stares in disbelief at the sudden stormcloud forming on the far end of the planet that they were raiding. The billowing clouds roiled and swelled with supernatural speed, flashes of lightning illuminating the interior and highlighting the silhouettes of a fleet moments before a full-scale Ahkam fleet emerges from the Storm Gate. A vanguard of fighters, missiles and weaponsfire leaping ahead of the fleet to strike at their hated foes.

The Osjiic picket fleet descended into disarray at the sudden arrival of a much stronger fleet than the decoy ships, the powerful opening salvo of the Ahkam fleet striking them from behind. As the void of space was filled with detonating ship reactors and dueling strikecraft, kinetic rounds and energy blasts traveling at near lightspeed while missiles trailed miles of vapor trails behind them in complex patterns, the Ahkam filled the frequencies with a war-cry proclaiming they were here for vengeance and glory.

With the Osjiic fleet turning to deal with the larger attacker Eitons decoy fleet managed to fall back with their wounded ships. Those too injured to Skip to another system set off their own reactors, not willing to let the ruse be spoiled by finding undead crew where they expected Ahkam loyalists. A message from the Ahkam flagship, a massive battleship that clearly held at least one Ahkam serpent, sent a message to Eitons fleet demanding to know which fleet they belonged to. Predator Eiton kept radio silence as his remaining ships make to escape the system leaving the Osjiic to deal with their new foes.

As you dropped out of FTL you continue to watch the assault of the new Ahkam fleet against the Osjiic world, the inner world sending forces from the picket fleet but the Ahkam were likely to be gone before they neared in time.

Predator Eiton sends a communication line to you and his image flickers to life before you. The cyclopean General kneels before you, his head held low and his gaze at the ground. You could feel his shame through the connection even before he spoke, "Please forgive me for my failure, Lord Jadyk. I have lost nearly all of our Ahkam ships, I deeply apologize and accept whatever punishment you may have for me."

Throwing himself before you Predator Eiton apologizes for his failure in leading the raid and losing so many ships and asks you to forgive him. What shall you say to your General?

"Indeed, were it not for the timely arrival of actual Akham forces your attack would have ended in disaster. You got lucky.

I am not going to waste your time with punishment detail, you are too valuable for that. But know that if you continue to fall short of the expectations set by your peers, my opinion on this may... change"
>>
>>1281354
"Arise, my General. Not every battle can end in victory. Be glad that the fates conspired to keep you intact this day," you say to him and he stands, "But as penance you shall oversee the production of ships to replace those that have been lost. You will create ships that can strike our enemies without them knowing we are there until after they are maimed."

He salutes, bowing his head, "Of course, Lord Jadyk. It shall be done."

"Study your failure, Predator Eiton. Learn from it and use it to make yourself stronger. A bone grows stronger with each fracture it suffers and so you shall be that much stronger from this failure," you say to him before the connection severs.

On board his Battlecruiser as it retreats to Horizon's Drop he sits in silence for several minutes in thought before commanding a holoscreen to be projected and begins working on his punishment.

As you had spoken with Eiton the corvette neared Clour and so you descend through the atmosphere in a Coffin. Kyn'tk slithers into your grasp, the semi-sentient artifact sensing that something momentous was about to occur. Stepping from the Coffin you drift over the parched earth, passing Reconstructed that stood at attention as you entered the chamber leading to Ruscuvs tomb.

Descending into Ruscuvs tomb you travel those dark passages until you enter the main chamber where Jor faced his trial by combat and her Cauldron took up the center of the room. Braziers and glowing crystals illuminated the large tomb, showing the Caretaker perched at the edge of the Cauldron speaking with the trio of Think Tanks that floated near it.

When the Think Tanks spun faster at your arrival the Caretaker turns to see you and gives a polite but short bow, "Welcome Lord Jadyk. The time is finally upon us!" it says with barely contained excitement, "Lord Ruscuv will be here with us once more and the Galaxy will tremble at her claws!"

You drift upwards toward the Cauldron, "I am as excited as you are Caretaker, but let's not rush the process and ruin her return in the last moments."

It bobs is heavy head, "Of course, of course. All that remains is the final spark that will awaken her. Her physical form is Reconstructed from the fossil she created of herself and her mind is still slumbering like the stone she was a part of for so long," it looks from the lightly boiling surface of the Cauldron to you, "I knew you wanted to be here for her return and your power would be strong enough to awaken her, Lord Jadyk. It is fitting you do this."

You still did not trust the Caretaker but with Ruscuv's reanimation so close to completion you ignore your dislike for the construct. You look down at the Cauldron and kneel at its edge, Kyn'tk slithering into the liquid as you plunge your hands into the roiling liquid, "Then I shall begin."

In all honestly I can't begin to tell you how disappointment I'll be if we actually botch this because of that roll. Months of anticipating this moment, carefully planing and influencing events, and a sequence of brilliant rolls and we botch it at the last minute because of one shitty roll? And this is the last extant remnant of the original Armada besides Jadyk himself, to have it go south after that 93 would be terrible.
>>
>>1281753
*disappointed
>>
>>1281753
You win some, You lose some. It atleast will ensure our dominance over the Wormstar in terms of the 'old' ones, Who followed it.

But as I said, We won't know until he posts.
>>
>>1281770
Win some lose some doesn't apply to something this major, Ruscuv is the last unliving peer to Jadyk left in existence, and more than that, one of the strongest proponents of incorporating the living in the previous Armada. Her potential value to the new one cannot be understated.
>>
>>1281798
i'm not saying it can be understated but it wouldn't be the end of the world if we lost her.
>>
I suppose since the 2 and 90 cancel each other out we are stuck with the 50?
>>
>>1281805
It'd be a pretty shitty way to lose her after all this though. With one bad last secondly roll negating a good roll.
>>
>>1281805
It kind of would. A living piece of the wormstar's power is not something we can afford to lose.
>>
>>1281842
That would't make any sense, If anything it would've had to been a 98.

>>1281845
I'm not saying it would't be shitty, Just saying its life.

>>1281851
Yes it is, Because we ensure our vision and future of it plus its not like we could't do something with it. It wasn't a 1.

You could sense her down there under the surface of the Cauldron, feeling as if she was just slumbering and waiting for something to awaken her. Kyn'tk stretches out and the tines slips past the armor of her skull and you connect your power to her own non-insignificant well of necrotic strength she possessed despite her hibernation.

A spark of Necrotic energy flickers down the length of Kyn'tk and her slumbering form jerks but otherwise does not react. You send another surge of power into her and at first it felt as she was resisting, a psionic block preventing her from awakening.

As you worked to reanimate her the Caretaker watched in silence, their many hands rubbing against each other in either excitement or nervousness.

You try once more, sending a weaker but persistent current of Necrotic power toward her sleeping mind and this time it seemed to take root. Instead of defensively rejecting the offered power her immobile shell began to siphon the energy from you. Her body stirs, the heavily armored shape shifting under the surface and you funnel more energy toward her.

The shell of Ruscuv starts to shift and unfurl within the Cauldron, seemingly awakened but as you tried to withdraw Kyn'tk and sever the flow of power you felt her draw persist and refuse to release the connection. More of your necrotic might began to flow into her and to your alarm you feel her start to tap into the Void energy at your core.

Angrily your body erupts with Solar flame shrouding your form and finally she lets the connection sever at the searing touch. The Caretaker recoils at the sight and heat of the painful flames nearly falling from the platform.

Letting the flames recede back into your body the scorched marks of your armor and bones flake away as your body repairs itself rapidly. You had not planned to give so much of your power to her but knew you could regain that spent energy fairly soon if you rested in Iti'a'Ropku.

The Cauldron boils furiously, waves splashing over the side to sizzle and hiss when the caustic fluids strike the floor. Ruscuv stirred beneath the surface as her mind returned to her and you could sense a sudden realization and awakening from her. Without warning the surface of the Cauldron bursts out to rain down on the chamber as a massive form hauls itself out of the liquid.

>cont

>>1281924
Towering over you Ruscuv dripped with liquid biomass as her eyeless gaze looked down on you standing before her. Her wide maw of complex mandibles and rows of razor sharp teeth slips open and her voice rumbles out, speaking in old Wormtongue as her facial tendrils twist in surprise, "I can not believe this! By the bones of the Wormstar, I did not expect to see you of all beings, Jadyk."

Her stature was much like you remembered, a large, almost insectoid bodyplan supported by four powerful armored legs that end in gnashing claws. Her upper body was protected by a dense dome shell, a pair of large arms ending with wicked scythe-like blades that crackled with Necrotic energy. A smaller, more dexterous pair of nearly human arms were paired with the larger limbs, the claws on them just as wickedly sharp as the scythes. Twisting behind her was a thick tail of heavy interlocking plates that ended in a large three-pronged claw that clacks together as she telekinetically stands on the surface of the Cauldrons liquid.

Looking up at her you give a deep bow of greeting, overjoyed to see her standing before you, "I am glad to see you among the undead once more, Sister Ruscuv. I was just as surprised to discover your tomb on this world after I had conquered it. A lucky, if unlikely, occurrence."

She lets out a bellowing laugh at that, the tendrils coiling in amusement, "I see much has not changed then if you are conquering worlds, Brother," she looks around the chamber, spotting the Think Tanks but ignoring them upon seeing the Caretaker and her mood seems to sour almost immediately, "You."

The Caretaker bows profusely, its limbs spreading out in supplication and lowering its gaze, "Lord Ruscuv! I am filled with rapturous joy now that you have returned! We can begi-" they were cut off by Ruscuv flinging out her scythe-limb faster than most races could follow and presses the sharp point against where its multitude of limbs joined with its small torso, the undead gasping in shock at the crackling energy pulsing along the blade.

Ruscuvs voice held none of the enjoyment she showed speaking with you, "Why are you still intact? The ritual explicitly called for your sacrifice. Your energy, -MY- energy, was the key to my awakening, how are you still here?" she demands accusingly and the Caretaker glances at you, Ruscuv turning her predatory gaze to you in question.

Your mood further soured you answer, "I used my own power to awaken you, Ruscuv. Your servant there said I 'should have the honor' of reanimating you."

Ruscuv looked back to the Caretaker who started to beg for forgiveness but with a sharp motion of her hand they fall silent, "To pay for my servants misdeed, how do you wish to punish them, Jadyk? It was your power that was taken by their deception."

>Lich Ruscuv has been Reanimated!

"As much as it would please me to reduce them to an empty husk," you say as you approach the Caretaker, fear finally apparent on its features as it looks up at you, "I find myself thinking of a more...fitting punishment."

Ruscuv gives a laugh and withdraws her scythe, "Go on."

"It was my First Necromancer who faced your trial and sacrificed flesh and bone to spark your reanimation. A human who freed me from my imprisonment and has been chosen by the Wormstar. I would give this Caretaker to him to do as he pleased," you state and find satisfaction at the disbelief you felt in the undead.

The massive lich nods and clicks her mandibles together, "So be it. They are his to deal with as he wishes," the tendrils twist and she runs a talon along the limb as she looks to the Caretaker, "I wonder what they will do. Will they drain your power you selfishly hoarded or will they turn your bones into armor?" The Caretaker recoils at the thought and seems to draw in on itself in silence.

Ruscuv gives a hop and she crashes down to the floor next to the Cauldron making the ground rumble and the liquid slosh. She moved around the chamber, stretching and testing her limbs, claws and pincers flexing as she looked around. Pausing at a Think Tank she taps its metal banded side with a tip of a tendril and the constructs where it floated, "Curious little creation," she says more to herself then looks to you, "So tell me, Jadyk, how strong is your fleet?"

"As it stands I have several thousand sub-capitols and several hundred capitol class warships. My Reconstructed number in the billions and my Armada controls six systems," you state with a bit of pride.

She nods, still pacing around the large chamber, "How long have you been freed? Not long if you only have six star systems under your control. You mentioned imprisonment."

"Several months now," you say and she nods, her claws clacking together, "And yes, I believe I was imprisoned by the the Crystalline Minds and the Wasps when I was...defeated," the memory of a fist coated in fractal crystal armor plunging into your torso and ripping free your phylactery flashing before you.

>cont
>>
>>1282232
She looks at you in confusion, "Why would they imprison you? They destroyed the phylacteries of our other siblings until I thought I was the only one left and hid myself away."

Rubbing your chin with a finger in thought you shrug, "I do not know. It took several weeks before I was able to remember my defeat at all after being released. I may have gone mad when I was sealed away in a tomb."

Clicking her mandibles in distress, "How dreadfully boring that must have been!" she shook her head and glanced around the tomb, "I do not see my Reconstructed," she says more as a statement than question.

"They were moved to other chambers to make room for your reanimation. They are intact, besides those my Necromancer faced in his trial," you curl your legs up under you, floating above the Cauldron.

Lifting her head as if sniffing the air, her tendrils twisting, "Ah yes, I can feel them. My sense are dulled but I feel them returning quickly," she turns to face you, thick tail curling forward over her lower body with its pincers twitching, "So tell me, Brother, why do you take the shape of a lowly human? Your combat forms rivaled my own on your best of days. I know you have great power within, I can sense that much," she tilts her head almost birdlike, leaning in closer, "Was that the Void and Solar I sense within you? It is!" she says without allowing you to reply.

She stomps around, laughing with her tendrils coiling in amusement, "Jadyk you are always full of surprises," she says then turns back to you, "I may call you Brother but I am unsure if I can call you Lord, just yet."

You hardly had time to react as she lunges forward and swings a scythe down on you. Kyn'tk flashes up, the twisting metal deceptively strong as you block the blow, Necrotic energy crackling off both weapons as they ground against each other, "Is this necessary?" you ask even though you knew the answer before you even asked the question.

Cackling she leans in, "We are as the Wormstar made us, Jadyk," then pulls back, her blades held at the ready while staring you down.

"With the death of the Wormstar it is up to us to remake ourselves as we see fit, Ruscuv, to be more than what we were," you say while letting the solar scorched robes fall from your form. A helm snaps shut over your skull and your armor of chitin, bone, and metal carved with Wormrunes gleams in the light, Kyn'tk taking form in your grasp and crackling with bolts of Necrotic power as you face down your returned ally.

Above on the sun-baked surface a Talon perched on a stone watching a small mammal-like creature chew at the short shrubs that grew on the desolate world. It kept its distance to avoid startling the skittish creature, head tilted to the side as it observed the wildlife but suddenly the ground underneath rumbled at the creature darted off into the brush. The Talon jumps to its feet, looking at the ground in confusion as another rumble echoes up and the ground heaves violently. Hissing in surprise as the ground pitched underneath then splits open and the Talon darts out of the way as an explosion of dirt and dust erupted from where it had been standing moments before.

Thrown from the newly excavated tunnel you tumble through the air before catching and righting yourself. A burst of telekinetic energy clears the dust from around you where you floated a several dozen feet in the air, your armor already dented and scored from numerous blows Ruscuv had rained down on you.

With little time to recover she herself bursts from the hole, sending the inquisitive Talon scampering away at full speed. Cackling Ruscuv spreads her limbs to drink in the sunlight, her blunt tail lashing as she gives a spin of delight, "Oh I never thought I'd miss the light of a sun!" She spins around faster than a creature her size should've, a claw slashing out to deflect a blow of Kyn'tk as you charged her.

Your spear was a flurry of fractal edged blades, the weapon alive and enraged as it flailed and sought out weakpoints in her armor, its infinity of edges crackling with Necrotic power flowing from your grasp. Bolts of sickly green energy leap off to strike the ground or shoot into the air each time your weapons clashed. Her blades could easily carve through a hull of a starship as they slashed with blinding speed, scoring your armor and driving you backward.

Her body spins and the armored tail strikes you bodily, sending you sailing into the distance toward a small ridge of stone. Catching yourself you reach out and rip of large boulders from the ground, spinning them around yourself before launching them at high speeds at your opponent. A double strike of her scythes shatters the first and her tail knocks aside the second while dodging nimbly under the third as she charges you. Each stomp of her four legs kicking a cloud of dust up behind her in her pursuit, "You disappoint me, Brother! I trained you to be a better warrior than this! Where is the fury that made Voidlord Ghul see you as an equal?!" she shouts her demands as she presses her attack, scythes crackling with power slicing through the air.

>cont
>>
>>1282547
Goaded by her words you give a powerful shove to drive her back and launch you further away, Kyn'tk reshaping itself from its common spear shape to one of a large battleaxe with a fractal serrated blade that grinds against itself like a molecular chainsaw. Your armor erupts in Voidflame and you propel yourself forward with a ripple of distorted light, one hand open in a claw as a sphere of chaotic void-light forms in your palm. Leaping into the air and throwing the orb of twisted gravity at Ruscuv she swings her blades to block but rather than detonate she finds herself launched into the air as the gravity around her reverses. Bringing the Kyn'tk ax engulfed in Void energy she struggles with deflecting your flurry of attacks that sends jets of ultraviolet Voidflame leaping from each blow.

Her tail lashes out them, the seemingly short and stout length elongating as the interlinked armored plates separate with dense muscle and sinew underneath letting the tail stretch much further than you suspected. The three clawed pincer latches down on you pulling you closer to her where she was cackling in delight, "That's better!" she shouts then gives a might twist of her body to send you sailing off into the distance once more.

Colliding with a ridge of stone you bounce off a boulder, spinning wildly in the air then slamming into a hillside that sends up a massive cloud of dust. Your armor still held but several of your bones did break, a feat that hadn't occurred since your last duel with an Ahkam.

Ruscuv was bounding across the landscape as you rose up to your feet but as she charged a booming echo ripped through the air and she skids to a stop to look up barely in time to spot the four Brutes plummeting towards her trailing the remains of the pair of drop pods that had deployed them.

She dodges out of their way, more agile than any would suspect of her bulk, letting the Brutes crash into the ground where she had been a moment before. Bellowing out their challenge the heft their massive thermal vibroblade cleavers, voidboid maces, and heavy shields as they charge the Lich. Seemingly completely delight Ruscuv leaps over a horizontal swing of the first Brute, her four legs kicking out to latch onto the Brute and tackle it to the ground, her scythes slicing down to punch through the armor around its neck and with a quick motion tears its head from its shoulders.

Her tail reaches out above her, the pincer latching onto the hand grasping the handle of its cleaver and she twists her body to rip the Brute off its feet and throw it into one of the other Brutes. The fourth Brute closes in on her, its shield hefted up to block her scythes and it swings its voidbone maul in an upward strike that knocks her staggering back. Bellowing again the Brute presses the attack, its large body spinning to add momentum to its next blow that collides with her domed shell and sends her digging into the ground half a meter.

>cont
>>
>>1282550
Her scythes slash out like a scissors blades and the Brute stumbles as its leg was severed below the knee and her tail lashes forward, pincers closing around its head while a scythe lodges in its chest to wrench its head off its shoulders as well. Throwing the skull of the Brute at the charging pair that had righted themselves one blocks it with its shield as the other charges forward with thunderous steps and swings its cleaver.

Scythes flashing to block the blow she hesitates as your voice bellows from the Brute, "IS THIS THE FURY YOU WANTED TO SEE?!" the blow knocking her scythes away allowing the other Brute to bullrush her with the shield driving her back but she digs her claws into the ground and starts shoving back as you shout through the other Brute as your mind controls both of the large Reconstructed, "HAVE YOU FORGOTTEN WHY I WAS THE WORMSTARS CHOSEN?!"

No longer cackling in delight she gave a shout of rage and shoved the Brute backwards, her body spinning around rapidly as she strikes both with her tail sending them falling backwards then leaping away to put some distance between her and the Brutes. Hunkering down she drives her scythes into the ground as if bracing herself as she arcs her tail forward and Necrotic energy crackling along her armor. It channels down her tail until it focuses at the tips of the three pincers that slowly spread and a crackling sphere of pure destructive Necrotic energy begins forming, erratic bolts of energy arcing off to strike and burn furrows of blacked glass in the earth.

With a sound that would've burst the eardrums of any humans within several miles she unleashes the blast and a beam not unlike a necrotic flayer strikes one of the Brutes shields only to burn through it like silk before a flame as its body was ripped apart at a molecular level. Still not at full power the blast sputters then detonates violently making Ruscuv shout out in surprise, the shockwave knocking the Brute back.

Finally she pushes herself up and lifts up her smaller hands toward you as you floated before her, "That was the duel I have waited millennia for, thank you Brother," she hesitates then gives a bow before you, "Lord Jadyk. I will follow you, for now," she says with a respectful salute only to let out a bout of laughter, "By the bones of the Wormstar that was quite a fight. You nearly got me by taking over those Reconstructed of yours," she looks at the last remaining Brute that lumbered closer to them, "Impressive soldiers, I would be eager to seem them duel one of my Titans," she says as if nothing had happened and the pair of you hadn't reshaped the landscape around you.

You could only shake your head and laugh as you sat in the air before her.

Here, also how can we make this new girl loyal completely? I don't want the masked to get her to betray us or out friends.
Did the bit of our influence take hold?

Here and awaiting the Rusco pinup poster!
>>
>>1288542
Her form is a bit too inhuman to lewd, unless you have a thing for monster girls
>>
We (and Ruscuv) need to learn to shapeshift.

CAn you imagine the surprise of people when a vaguely feminine undead turns into a hulking monster of war and ruin?
>>
>>1288536
I don't think we'll need to worry about that, when we tell her about Akka-Tor, and give her a chance to explore our holdings and meet our people.

If anything, she might be shocked to see how /well/ things are going for us, and how quickly we are advancing. The living and the undead, working hand in hand towards a common good.
>>
Returning to the half-demolished main chamber where Dirges and Requiems were clearing away the rubble and lifting portions of the ceiling back into place, Ruscov inspects the Reconstructed critically. Floating over to where she was turning a mildly distressed Dirge over in her own, rather weak, telekinetic grip with her claws and tendrils running across the jagged crystal and Reconstructed bone in intense concentration.

"Technology gained from the Crystalline Minds. We call them Dirges, the larger ones are Requiems, named by my Necromancer. They are unable to physically move but they are potent telekinetics as you can see," you say with a motion to a Requiem holding up a portion of roof while Dirges reassemble pillars underneath it.

Letting the relieved Dirge float free Ruscov turns to face you, "Impressive I must admit. You always relied on the gifts of the mind more than I ever did, Brother," she says with a laugh while stomping over to one of the Think Tanks that had overseen her reanimation to tap one of her claws on the metal and glass construct, "Curious little things."

"Those are the Think Tanks," she lets out a bark of laughter but you continue, "They assist me in controlling my armies and piloting my starships. You will no doubt meet the Deep Rot soon, it is the mind the links all Think Tanks to myself."

Ruscov glances at the Caretaker huddled in a corner of the chamber staring at her in sullen silence but she ignores it as she paces around the chamber, "I saw that Talon above. You still love that model. The big ones were new though. I liked them."

"The Talons are the origin of the Reconstructed art. They are the basis upon all that followed," you say, pulling your legs up under you slowly submerging yourself in the Cauldron up to the neck as your armor and bones were repaired rapidly, "The large ones are Brutes. They have proven quite effective at planetary invasions."

Ruscuv nods, stopping to watch the telekinetic Reconstructed repair the damage caused when she had thrown you into the wall leaving a large crater that brought down a portion of the roof, "I am excited to see what other creations you have made," she pauses and glances at you then gives a small bow, "Lord Jadyk," she adds and you can sense no insincerity in her.

Was there anything you wished to say to Ruscov before tending to other matters within the Armada?

Ask about what happened after our death and the betrayal of Akkator. Then explain the new method of dealing with the living
>>
>>1288619
Tell her about what we've pieced together about our imprisonment and after(including akka-tor's betrayal) and our major allies and enemies. Also the new undead generals that are hype.
>>
>>1288619
Oh boy. Time to tell her a bit about why she will see a bunch of non-reconstructed on our planets and not a toxic wasteland inhabited solely by beautiful monstrosities. We dont have to tell her everything until she actually gets to the capitol, but we had best explain the main changes.
The living are an integral part of our operations and are to be treated as such.
No genocides unless its stopping the spread of contamination.
We are willing and eager for former enemies to become allies.
And if we have time:
We have a bro called the Lavafather working with us. He used to be a wasp. You had better not have a problem with that.
There are some young whippersnappers called the Blackscales. Think of them as our bastard brothers who never truly knew the necrotic until now and will enjoy in our victories together.
I dont think she will voice TOO much displeasure until she actually sees our capitol, mostly because I doubt she will believe it.

Fill her in about Akka-tor and what we've learned of the remnants of the Undying Court and it's fall since being freed, we can bring up our whole new philosophy when she visits Iti'a'ropku.
>>
>>1288619
"Tell me what happened after I was defeated. There are not many from that time that I have met in this era," you say while lifting up out of the Cauldron, your armor repaired and robes replaced.

"It was...bad. At first it seemed like we could struggle on, perhaps carve out a portion of the Galaxy for ourselves. The Wormstar was...upset by your loss, naturally," Ruscuv sighs, "Other factions of the Undying Court began fall before the Wasps, Crystals and Sunscale. Our brother and sister Liches were destroyed as well, Geggag, Ivun, Qaza. All with their phylacteries shattered and desecrated.

"I heard about the Lightdrinkers betrayal until too late. I was off in a far sector when the Wormstar was killed," she trails off a moment in thought, "I wonder if they knew their end was coming and sent me off to survive since I was the last Lich," she seems to hunker down, her expressive facial tendril moving with lackluster motions as she remembers, "I could feel the Wormstar die, Brother. Feeling it shatter and its essence scattered and drained...I thought I would fall apart as well without its power there to guide me. Those were dark times, my Necrolytes were all slaughtered or fled to hide among the living. Forced to hide on backwater worlds with a pitiful fleet or hiding between the stars where the radiation and ghosts ripped at our hulls," stomping a foot she rises back up and looked around the chamber, "That was when I found this world. I turned myself to stone to wait out the eons until a true believer of the Wormstar could arise once more. Never in my wildest delusions did I think it would be you to awaken me, Brother."

"I maybe given you the spark to reanimate, Ruscuv but my own freedom was not my doing. I spoke of my Necromancer, a human by the name of Jor. He was a miner on a backwater world in a nearby system and somehow the whispers of the Wormstar reached him in his dreams, guiding his diggers until they broke into my tomb and set me free," Ruscuv looks at you with her eyeless gaze intently as you spoke, "Still he receives messages in dreams from the Wormstar. It is truly dead but somehow this simple human has been receiving guidance from the Wormstar. He even created a home where the living and undead could coexist peacefully-"

You were cut off by her laughter but she falters when you do not join in, "The living and undead existing peacefully together? Never happened. I had my Necrolytes but they were worshipers, littler more than resources that praised our names and the Wormstar," she says and waves a hand dismissively as if disgusted by the idea.

>cont

>>1288960
"Much as changed since we were both entombed, Sister. I said before that with the Wormstars death that it is up to us to decide our new purposes in this universe. You slept mindlessly for millennia, one with the stone that you became. I was trapped all those eons in the darkness of my tomb," you start to raise your voice, rising to your feet to "eye"-level with Ruscuv, "I witnessed what it would be like if the Armada had won. Stagnation and entropy reigning until the death of the Universe.

"With my freedom I have come to a realization, Sister. Undeath without life is stagnation, a surrender to entropy. Do you know how -boring- it was in that tomb?! The living are chaos incarnate! Without them undeath has no meaning beyond consumption and an eternity of dreariness!" you shouted, "The Wormstar guided my Necromancer to me, freed me from darkness and helped this human teach me there was more to our unlife than eternal warfare," you say while calming yourself from the sudden outburst of emotion, "I don't expect you to understand this immediately, Ruscuv, I did not at first either but in time I hope that you will. The Necrolytes have been recreated, now a Legion of loyal living soldiers that fight across the stars to bring my will and the word of the Wormstar to the living. My Reconstructed fight alongside them to protect the living this very moment. If you are to be a part of my new Armada then you are to respect my laws concerning the well-being of the living under my protection."

Ruscuv was silent for some time before asking, "Why? Is there some new enemy that threatens you so much that you must ally with the living?"

Letting out a sigh you shake your head, "Not that I have encountered, no. Akka-Tor yet still exists," Ruscuv bristles at the name, tendrils roiling angrily, "She calls herself the Suneater now after she devoured the power of the Wormstar to fuel her own power," Ruscuv listens intently as you tell her of your encounter with Akka-Tor and her wraiths, leaving out the parts concerning the Masked and the Armatocere, each being subjects for another time.

Her scythe scratches at the ground, "You encountered her but did not strike her down?"

"Where both of us were entombed either as or within stone, she spent those millennia increasing her power. She possesses a mobile space city that seems to feed on stars themselves. I was woefully unprepared to fight her. I likely still am not strong enough," you say with a shake of your head.

Ruscuv's tendril coil and twist in thought before speaking, "There is much I do not know, Brother. Our duel has tired me as well. I think I will...rest here for a time."

You nod and a Think Tank floats forward to your side and you pat its hull affectionately, "This Think Tank will teach you all that you desire, Ruscuv. There is much to be done and tend to in my Armada. I will return to speak with you again shortly."

Ruscuv gives a bow, surprising you by the formality of the gesture, "Yes, Brother. Lord Jadyk," she says then hunkers down as the Think Tank begins telepathically communicating with her about the history of the new Armada.
>>
>>1288970
Ruscuv is recovering from the duel (despite hardly seeming damaged) and is learning about the current state of the Armada through a Think Tank. The Caretaker has been left behind for Jor to arrive and judge its fate.

While on the subject of the legion, with us taking the Refuge system we'll probably be getting a load of new troopers itching for a chance to get some payback on the Void Tyrants, so we might want to think about restructuring the Legion a bit. Perhaps we could establish a naval arm of it for strike craft. Given how most of our recruits up until now were taken from enemy space fleets, many of them would have skills far more suited to dog fighting in small craft than ground pounding. We also need to start introducing various elemental cores into the legion, and equip some of our most loyal and veteran troops with them. Something that advanced should be restricted to the most seasoned troops we trust the most.
>>
>>1289051
All forthe supporting this

Though I feel our legislators should be more protected then just manning fighters, perhaps put them in control of.larger ships more focused on using drones and reconstructed to prevent loss of life

>The Caretaker has been left behind for Jor to arrive and judge its fate.
Say, I think I've come up with a suitably karmic punishment for this treacherous little bastard. You know how our generals all have soul bound weapons? At this point Jor is probably powerful enough to make his own, and now he's got an intact fragment of Ruscuv's power to do with as he wishes. Jor gave up his arm to reawaken Ruscuv, let's have him use the piece of her power he's been given to increase his own.

Seated on your throne once more on the corvette that had transported you to Andai you establish a connection to the Battleship that the Necrolytes were operating out of in the Refuge system.

Moments later the holographic image of the Commander appears before you and the osjiic bows deeply before your own image projected before him lightyears away, "Lord Jadyk, thank you for speaking with me. I hope all is well on your end."

"You and Jor missed quite a battle when I awakened my sister lich," you say nonchalantly only to pause in confusion when the osjiic laughs.

Hurriedly he stops and gives another polite bow, "Forgive me, Lord Jadyk. Jor told me about Ruscuv's tomb and his trial. Did she initiate the battle?" he asks curiously. You nod and he laughs again, "I am sorry, but it seems Jor won our little bet. I own him a bottle of Corri liquor now, somehow."

Giving your own short laugh you shake your head, "Anyways. How goes your progress?"

The voidsinger scratches at a new scar on his chin, "Aren't you able to look through all your Reconstructed?" he asks curiously then shrugs when you don't reply, "Either way, it progresses. We've fortified the largest survivor groups on Scatters and are evacuated those still remaining on its moon. We're sending gunships to disrupt their "shipyards" but there seems to be no end of these undead. It's bizarre, I had no idea a system could have this many refugees in it," he falls silent for a moment and frowns, "To think I helped drive them all toward this system. I was with Estkri's fleet by the time she helped take the Cerberi system," he admits and you can tell he felt some guilt for his role even without the empathic link of a domination spike or shard.

"Regret not your past with the Empire. You are Necrolyte now, Commander of its Legion and a favorite of mine," he looks up at you, a reluctant expression of pride spreading across his face, "By saving those in Refuge you shall atone."

His resolve reinforced he nods and shifts the subject back towards the liberation. A screen projects with data concerning the operation pops up and he speaks, "Speaking of saving those here in Refuge... we have close to several thousand waiting in carriers or waiting transport. Surprisingly, many wish to stay and fight the undead now that we've arrived and so we're helping them fix their weapons or handing out simple bone rifles and shardspitters to help them out along with simple armor. There have been...quite a few that expressed interest in joining us after they were rescued while others..." he sighs and a list projects showing names among the Legion, "There have been casualties among the Legion. Remarkably very few actually, the most that have been slain or injured are the osjiic soldiers. Most of them slain by refugees from Cerberi or other Confederate worlds the Empire has taken."

Clacking your teeth in anger, "That is...most regrettable."

>>1289267
The Commander nods, "I have had to put most of our osjiic necrolytes as ship or exosuit pilots or helping on ships away from survivors because of this," he lets out a sigh but moves on, "I mainly wished to speak with you about what we should do with the survivors and those we've rescued. Hearth is overcrowded as it is, medicine and food hitting all time lows with starvation and regular disease starting to set in. Scatters is slowly being taken control of. Junkyard and the moons of Spindle are still heavily infested and the Eyegore reports sightings of sub-capitol ships in their numbers along with rumors from the survivors.

"How would you suggest we progress with this operation, Lord Jadyk?" he asks.

Situation in Refuge:
>Scatters is mostly reinforced with hordes of undead still present attacking the survivors hold-outs
>Scatters moon is mostly evacuated of living sentients and completely overrun by the undead
>There is a health crisis and famine unfolding on Hearth the main populated world of Refuge
>Reports of larger ships crewed by the undead are appearing
>The Legion is currently protecting nearly 20,000 beings on Scatters alone

How should the Legion progress?
>>
>>1289270
>Focus on getting food and supplies to the health crisis and areas we control, while forming a blockade with our ships to keep any enemy undead fleet away.

>Start purging areas fully lost too the undead.
>>
>>1289270
Fall back from Scatters have our ships ferry the survivors either to one of our staging worlds in interim, or to Hearth. Have the reserve fleet we earmarked for trouble eradicate everything on Scatters and it's moon.
>>
>>1289270
> Send Jor with far greater reinforcements of both ground troops and ships, including the Fury. Burn and cast away the infected fleet like ash on the wind.
> Those survivors willing to fight can stay and assist the Legion in freeing the rest of the system; everyone else will be sent back to Horizon's Drop, where they can be tended.
> While the Commander continues his work, Jor can speak with the survivors and explain that the Osjiic in our Armada have abandoned the cruel Empire of their birth. They are brothers and sisters of the Necrolyte Legion, who are still working to save the people of the Refuge system, and attempting to harm or kill a soldier of the Armada is both a crime and only serves to risk the lives of those they are working to save.
> Evacuate the last survivors of Scatters' moon, then hit it with the Sludge and the Worms. Let the infestation be purged, and the leftover biomass turned to building more soldiers to free the system.
> Unleash the Illuminator and the Void Juggernauts upon the zombie hordes. Destroy them all. Let them taste the fury of the Armada.
> Meanwhile, the Necrolyte Legion can move on to Hearth and attack in force while our Coffins begin dropping supplies (food, medicine, weapons, armor, ammunition, everything they need).
> Ask the Lavafather if he and his would wish to join us in freeing this system from the zombie threat. His Obsidianborn are immune to the infection, and it would give his Stonestar soldiers a chance to fight alongside the Legion on the ground.
>>
>>1289270
There is clearly some form of intelligence behind these undead, and it's time to find out what it is. Charge the VC with the task of scouring scatters to find it with any resource he requires to do so, while continuing to evacuate holdouts where he can, but at this stage I think we've evacuated enough of scatters to allow orbital strikes on the larger groups of undead.

While this is going on begin distributing emergency supplies and medical treatment to Hearth, but don't deploy any of the osijic necrolytes on that mission.
>>
>>1289329

This seems pretty well-thought out, supporting but without sending the Fury, we are still fighting a war and might need reserves
>>
>>1289329
>Meanwhile, the Necrolyte Legion can move on to Hearth and attack in force
Hearth is the planet that all the refugees are fleeing to.

Unless you wish to launch an attack against the living there
>>
>>1289329
Not sure the survivors are down to just abandon their homes here. Refuge is still salvageable as a home of the living, I say let them remain in the parts of the system that are safe until we bring up the issue of citizenship within the Armada.
>>
>>1289270
So far the only agreed option is:
>Begin transporting relief aid in the form of medicine and food

Some choices in how to progress:
>Evacuate the survivors on Scatters and its moon to Hearth and begin purging the planet and moon of undead
>Launch attacks against Junkyard and its fledgling fleet
>Send the Necrolyte Commander to hunt down whatever is leading the undead

Did you wish to deploy any Generals to the battlefield or allow the Legion to continue handling the operation?
>>
>>1289503
>Evacuate the survivors on Scatters and its moon to Hearth and begin purging the planet and moon of undead
Except those who are determined to stay and fight the undead, they can help out. We could use this to gain some new recruits for the legion.
>>Send the Necrolyte Commander to hunt down whatever is leading the undead

We could invite just about any of the generals not actively doing anything right now to come along, make it a real party.

"I believe it is time we begin purging the hordes before they can amass and spill over to Hearth and potentially other systems," you say, "Begin by having as many of the survivors transported to Hearth. Aid will be sent shortly to help with the famine and health crisis. You have my permission to continue allowing those willing to fight to stay behind with the Legion to begin clearing it of the undead. Afterwards we will likely have a boost in recruitment for the Legion."

"Will the Legion be in charge of the undead eradication or can I expect backup?" the Commander asks.

"Indeed. Lorgul and more Disciples will be sent to strike at Junkyard. They are fresh from their raid against the Empire and are ready to deploy again. For Scatters I am sending the latest General to assist. You will be able to meet Illuminator Tlacex in person," you say and the Commander looks surprised at the mention of a new General since he departed but nods.

"But for you, Commander, I have another mission. There is clearly a controlling influence here guiding these undead. Zombies and ghouls are crude undead but someone is controlling them to be more effective than they should be. I am assigning you to discover this guiding force, assess it, and if possible, eliminate it. Gather those you need to begin this search and begin as soon as possible," you command, "The faster we find the source of this plague the faster we can cull it."

The Commander salutes sharply, "It will be done, Lord Jadyk. For this operation I would like to have a smaller team and a stealth ship. With your permission I would also like to have Necromancer support, possibly even Jor himself if he's up to it and you don't require him elsewhere."

Shouldn't we be sending Valresko (our solar-powered general) for this task? His description made him out to be like an inquisitor bringing out judgments against necrotic usage or something like that.

Also, another point. Should we start looking into changing our body? We don't have to look like a typical humanoid lich. "Very well. Jor will join you shortly. He is required for the opening of the city on Rukor but I am sure he will be eager to join you once his responsibilities there are finished, Commander. Prepare your team, this outbreak has progressed far enough," you command and the Osjiic salutes.

"To Death and through it to Eternity," he intones before the signal cuts out.

The Commander leaves the room he had retreated to for the communication and into the bridge proper and begins shouting orders to his Necrolytes and the Think Tanks assisting them. Messages are relayed to the forces on Scatters and its moon, carrier ships in orbit firing their engines to begin heading for Hearth to unload their cargo of refugees and survivors.

On Horizon's Drop Reconstructed move through the large groves of plants the Armatocere had granted, Talons and Scourges harvesting a bounty of fruit and vegetables from the fields and farms closer to the more temperate zones of the planet. Great quantities of Drop Kelp are harvested and after a momentary thought by the Commander large batches of the Narcotikelp are gathered, the Commander knowing the drug would be a welcome luxury for the overstressed survivors. In the production factories of the Armada Stingers and Talons pull great amounts of weaponry and armor from the vats linked to the massive Cauldrons, sized and fitted for a variety of races to be deployed for both the Necrolytes and the Refuge survivors who decide to join the fight.

On Scatters and its moon the Necrolytes relay their orders to the survivor compounds and are met by a scattered response. Many did indeed wish to flee to Hearth and they were guided to Coffins and Bloat Carriers waiting to carry them. The others though refused to abandon the world, loathe to flee from another home they had made and so they were given weaponry and armor from the Legions reserves.

Progress on transporting the survivors to Hearth started off slow with several hiccups but seems to be continuing steadily.

Fairly certain you will find that colony was it's starting point

I think you will also find the culprit behind it all is one of the immortals [\spoiler]

Do we have video recording hardware? If there are underground networks, we should send them propaganda. Tell our legionnaires to loot video cameras or something, demand them from a couple of refugees? They're aware of us and what we're doing, so let's be proactive and give them only the best we have to offer.

>>1291332
Did the Immortals have souls that could manipulate Energies? And speaking of the Immortals, when ever we find one of them, our goal is to capture them alive, that way we could get some info about where the others are and if not, we can at least see how well they fared in their unplanned test-run.

>>
>>1293873
At this stage we should have more than enough edible biomass that we can cover it ourselves, we now grow their tastiest crops ourselves. I'd prefer we take all the credit for saving the inhabitants of the system, we're going to need it we're going to rule these people.

Plus, the Armatocere do tend to charge a lot for their biomass, which is acceptable enough on small scale but would get really costly really quick in Refuge.
>>
>>1294640
It's not that we can't do it ourselves, it's that I want us to have as much of there good will for when they become upset by our conquest
>>
>>1294745
Why would the plants be upset? Nobody else is friends with them, and we comit very few war crimes.
>>
>>1295612
Let the galaxy see this as an Armada project and so it can't be misconstrued by politicians to say it's the Armotocere idea or we are doing to impress them
>>
>>1294745
I don't think this is something they would be upset about- it's perfectly normal for an empire to expand its borders. It's less normal to do it for humanitarian reasons.

>>1295941
However, placing an embassy of theirs in the system afterwards can have some political importance. We don't know if the humans as a people are divided on the acts of aggression against the plants, but them being humans I strongly suspect there are many factions. An embassy and workers helping with agriculture infrastructure and water filtration and whatever else should be placing a big wedge in the human aggression/expansion politics.

Well it all hinges on if the armatocere are willing to go that far for us but I believe it is beneficial to us both.

>Let the galaxy see this as an Armada project and so it can't be misconstrued by politicians
We need to make video recordings and smuggle them to the nearby systems. Subvert the government controlled media. I wouldn't be surprised if planets would willingly secede and join us peacefully down the line as long as we keep up with this whole benevolent dictator gig.

You know this gets me thinking, with our current technology we could theoretically build a sort of reconstructed equivalent to a bolo by compacting our starship weaponry for use in a land based super heavy tank. It would have to be a massive compared to our existing battletombs, like comparing a that 1,000 ton mega tank the nazis designed and a Panzer, but would otherwise follow a similar design to the battletomb template. A hulking mass of armor suspended on heavy hover pads with a turret so massive it could carry the same guns as a ship turrets mount. Being an obvious target for enemy artillery and air strikes, it would need auxiliary guns to fight off both air and infantry attacks, missile pods out the wazoo, and shielding equivalent to a space ship, but there would be sweet fuck all it couldn't blow up on the battlefield. It would be a perfect counter to the Osijics super heavy mechs.
>>
>>1298539
To add on to that, we could put tractor beams on the bottom that pick up biomass and metal and place it in cauldrons. We could have roaming troop manufacturies. With a mainly mechanical troop producer we also stay away from the vorefags.
>>
>>1298626
That could work, I was thinking it would use a combination of grav manipulators and hoverpads to get around, and obsidian dirges incorporated into the structure to help clear its path of obstacles and smooth the terrain it moves over. It isn't too much of a stretch to have it harvest metal objects and the whatever is left of the corpses of its targets from underneath it while not in active combat.

The way I figure it this thing will be so huge it would double as a strategic command bunker while in a warzone, as it is more or less a terrordrome on hoverpads. It would make sense for some of them to have utility/support function to back up a larger force.
having some of them with utility weapon functions would make sense

The Rolan system was on high alert after the loss of Vle'Karak and his invasion force sent after B'Nan, patrols of ships flying between the planets while the Eyegore sifts through the countless transmissions bouncing around the system. Without the aid of the Deep Rot and the Think Tanks the satellite undead would have never been able to sort through them all, it's eyes and sensory organs directed out to drink in the infinite source of information a heavily populated system brought with it. I learned of the fleet that had departed from Tura hours prior and the first reports of its strike against the R'Jur system being a grand success.

It noticed the gravity wells appearing first, then saw a series of discreet flashes as Lavafather and Armadan ships appeared in the system and moments later wrapped themselves in cloaks of twisted light and energy. Sensing the minds of Agona among the hidden ships the Eyegore quivered with excitement, remembering the last time she had visited this system aboard the Obsidianborn ships. It could hear several transmissions from Ahkam ships and stations about potential FTL sightings but patrols and sensors fail to detect anything.

In the days since the Lavafathers raids against this system and then the loss of the Butcher Rolan had become a highly secure system, more ships brought in from neighboring systems Chliro and Esat. In fact the space between the planets seemed to be positively buzzing with Esat long-range fighters and gunships flying patrols either independently or swarming around larger ships. The throne palace on Plecfo's moon shimmering with the light of a city-shield and protected by a large fleet of capital ships, the Eyegore sensing great fonts of Arc energy from within the palace and several of the ships.

The Eyegore was starting to suspect the joint Obsidianborn and Armadan fleet wouldn't attack, merely a scouting force about to depart when there was a sudden flurry of activity throughout the system. Simultaneous attacks were launched on the outer rims of the system. Dropping their stealth fields dangerously close to Ahkam ships in orbit over the gas giant and the heavily mined world the raiding ships unleashed their payloads in near point-blank range.

>cont
>>
>>1302094
The scenes of battle were nearly identical across the system as they attacked. Missiles streaked across the distance to ripple with explosions across their shields, many of them failing. Weaponmounts unleashed kinetic rounds of half-molten metal that bore through the hulls of ships before erupting in tides of liquid burning metal that rush through the frail insides of the ships. Waves of destructive plasma and necrotic energy wash over and disintegrate the bulkheads of ships in mere moments. Armadan ships unleash brilliant green beams from their necrotic flayers striking the shields of Ahkam warships but still the entropic radiation of the powerful weapons leaked through and visibly corroded their hulls until the shields failed and the beams began tearing their bulkheads apart atom by atom.

Chaos erupted across the system as news of the attackers traveled through it. Yet Agona was not one to overstay her welcome and press her luck. With their FTL engines already charged before they had attacked she sends her command when she saw the Ahkam mobilizing to retaliate.

As soon as they had appeared the Obsidianborn and Armadan ships wrapped themselves in distorted space-time and leaped out of the reach of the retaliatory strikes. The attack had lasted less than an hour and in that time they had destroyed and crippled dozens of ships, the glowing hulks of half-melted and warped ships drifting through the system as their comrades attempted to rescue any who survived.

The Eyegore felt almost disappointed in the short show but knew this was not the last of the attacks against Rolan. Indeed it knew this was only the beginning.

Returned to Iti'a'Ropku you stood with Jor by your side in the large chamber in the center of the Necromancers tower, the other seven members of the Necromantic Order standing in a circle around you. Within the circle the eight Ructu potentials stood and looked around with expressions ranging from hesitation and worry to excited anticipation.

Five of their number held the potential to be Necromancers as well, the other three each a potential for the Void, Arc, and Solar. Among the necrotic sensitives there was the one that went by the name Vekke, once a homeless mute on the streets of the ructu capital city, she had eagerly spent her time since arriving with a demi-Think Tank teaching her and the other ructu various lessons about the Armada. She still did not speak but looked up at you and Jor with a steely determination.

You voice fills the chamber as you speak, each ructu implanted with a Domination Spike during a medical check-up and allowing them to understand you speaking in old Wormtongue, "You have each had time to witness the splendor of Iti'a'Ropku. By the next sunrise of this world Rukor will have a city that will mirror its glory. You shall return to Rukor then, but not the same as you had left. You will return as ambassadors to your people, to bring the light of the Wormstar and the guidance of the Armada to Rukor. I shall grant you each powers that will allow you all to bring great change to your people, helping to uplift the great ructu race to stand shoulder to shoulder with the other members of the Armada among the stars."

The ructu looked up at you in excitement then, the air thick with Narcotikelp smoke from the braziers spaced around the chamber helping open their minds to the prospect of the glory they would bring their people. You could sense Jor's pride, his time spent with them the last day further convincing him of his assessment of the ructu and their potential usefulness to the Armada.

Was there anything you wished to say to the potentials before they were granted their abilities?

Floating back you nod to Jor and the other Necromancers. They step forward and each approach one of the necrotic potentials. Those other three stand off to the side uncertainly as the necromancers and their charges were taken aside to being the process but three Necrolyte Legionnaires step forward. Sur-Quro looks at you with a flare of distaste sensed through her domination spike but she knew her duty when Valresko had sent her. An Arcdancer and a Voidsinger, among the most skilled of their order approach their charges as well, the Voidsinger Stonestar cheerfully greeting the ructu while the Esat Arcdancer spoke the other.

Several screamed out in pain as they were granted their new abilities, time passing as their beings were infused with elemental energies that could tear them asunder if they were not careful. You sat in your throne and watched in silence as they were empowered, Jor overseeing the infusion of the new necromancers.

Finally the process was complete and you arise to greet the newly infused members of the Armada. The necrotic sensitives struggled with a sickening hunger they felt in their core but stood silently, looking up at you. The new voidsinger looks intently at the small candle of Voidflame burning between the soft shell of their chest. Lifting your hand you draw their attention, "I know this gift feels painful at this moment but without sacrifice power becomes a danger as much to yourself as your enemies. You will spend the night to adjust to your new gifts and to recover. Upon the rising of the sun we shall depart for Rukor and you shall return home."

The ructu stand, each approaching you to press their palm to your own in the ructu gesture of gratitude. Among them you could feel Vekke being the only one of the necrotic ructu to retain her excitement in the wake of the hunger that becoming a necromancer brought. Red-Leaf-Strains calls for the five new necromancers to follow her and the osogo necromancer guides them to a chamber where still living rukorian hunter squid awaited them along with reaver staves. The other ructu were guided away by the members of the respective elemental orders to teach the initiates how to focus and control their new gifts.

Even from the other room you could feel the joy that surged through the ructu as they took Reaver staff in hand to drain the life from the animals. They were a society of fishers, death and life a matter of fact to them they viewed rather starkly, so far seemingly unbothered by the need to drain the energy from living beings in order to slake their hunger.

"They will be very useful to the Armada," Jor states as he stood by you throne.

"Of course they will. Every living being that pledges itself to me is useful in someway to me and the Armada," you state, uncertain if Jor knew of the ambient energy collectors scattered throughout the walls and streets of the city.

Gained:

It's not like we're ripping the life force directly from our citizens, and its being used to their benefit. I doubt he'd mind at all, and even if he was unsure, he'd have faith that Jadyk was doing the right thing for the Armada.

It was a fairly common sight now in the Refuge system to see the flash of a ship exiting FTL but this time it was ripples of Voidlight that announced the arrival of a single Void-Terror within the system. Jareth sat in the cockpit, the powerful strikecraft moving like an extension of his body as he moved through the void of space toward the Junkyard several light minutes away. Junkyard was teeming with zombie and ghoul manned ships and almost hidden behind the swarm of shuttle sized craft, many were little more than a cockpit strapped to chemical thrusters.

His appearance didn't seem to go unnoticed as a small group of strikecraft targeted him and raced toward him. With a casual wave of his hand the voidscreamer turrets, the ships weaponmounts shuffled around recently, swivel and take aim, unleashing a barrage of destructive void energy that rips through the shoddily repaired craft. This seemed to stir the hive of undead piloted craft and they began to surge toward him.

Jareth merely laughs as his ships engines flare to life and rocket him toward the onrushing hordes of shuttles and strikecraft.

While rarely does Jareth seem to give into the joy of combat that Lorgul relishes the Voidknight always felt most at home behind the controls of his Void Terror, his skills as a pilot uplifting him from Disciple to full blown Revenant. His ship spins and dives out of the way of crude missiles and weaponsfire, his own weapons blazing with Void energy that rip apart the cheap craft like paper. More of the strikecraft bore down on him, the swarm of ships reaching out toward him like an amoebas pseudopod.

Just as he was about to collide with the converging swarm of ships there was a blast of light and radiation blossoming around the lone ship and a fleet of Armadan warships emerge in its wake. Weaponsfire mows down the swarm of ships as Jareth dives into the midst of their swarm, his craft boring a path of carnage through the crowded ships.

Lorgul and several other Disciples joined in, their craft fueled and enhanced by their natural powers to tear apart their foes. Caught in the path of the strike fleet the zombified shuttles break off in a chaotic swirl of metal and engines, the Armada ships decimating their ranks as they tried to flee.

Yet from the planet larger ships reacted, ships that looked quite literally pieced together from the scraps of the dumping grounds below. A Confederate cruisers engines crowded onto the frame of an Osjiic frigate, an Ahkam battlecruiser the bulk of a monstrosity of Confederate corvettes and pirate frigates among them. An osjiic battleship merged with an Ahkam destroyer seemed to be the flagship of this motley fleet, a cloud of strikecraft swarming around it helping to hide its profile as it moved to intercept the strike fleet.

Yet as predicted the undead fleet did not pose a significant threat to the Armada ships, only a handful of sub-capitals falling victim to the overwhelming tide of smaller, suicidal strikecraft ramming bodily into them. Leaving a path of mangled ships in their wake the Voidknights hunt down the largest of the craft, their voidflayers ripping through hulls unprotected by shielding, the rents in the bulkheads sending zombies and ghouls spraying into the void. The zombie fleet seemed to realize it was no match for the Armada and their ships attempt to retreat back to Junkyard but the Armada ships hound them in their flight.

Across the system the Necrolyte Commander and his officers watch the spectacular attack, each feeling thankful for the Voidknights greatly thinning out the seemingly countless numbers of shuttles and strikecraft that would've spelled disaster for the rest of the system if they had managed to get past Scatters.

>Zombie fleet has been decimated and driven fully back to Junkyard where they are attempting to hide the remainder of their ships among the wreckages already there

If he does build a capital city, I can imagine it being designed like a series of inverted, hollow pyramids or ziggurats where the Stonestar live and work, or alternatively like a termite/ant colony.

The spouts would take in fresh air and expel the old, while the 'volcano' would actually be a landing pad for spacecraft. The tunnels and caverns surrounding the cities would be filled with the lichen and slug farms. The middle section would be the production area, where all of their weapons and armor and day to day work would happen. The lowest point would be a temple-forge where the Lavafather spoke with his subjects and with foreign visitors.

On Yrre-1 your Harbinger meets with the Eldertree once more, the undead diplomat welcomed near the leader but always under the watchful eyes of its guardians. Overall you had discovered a healthy amount of elemental potentials among their number, proving that it not just the province of the fauna species of the galaxy.

Bowing before the Eldertree you look through the eyeless gaze of the Harbinger, your voice issuing from it, "There are a number of potentials withing your citizens. All four of the currently known elemental energies are present, even those of the Necrotic."

The 'voice' of the Eldertree booms in the skull of the Harbinger, <This is good news, Lord Jadyk. With your aid our understanding of the universe will progress by great measures. What is the next step of this process?>

"That would be imparting a portion of another wielders energy to "spark" the potential within a subject, igniting it so their own lifeforce can fuel it from then on," you say and several of the dark leaves fall from the branches stretching overhead where small creatures flourished.

<Would they be a threat if they are untrained?> it asks.

"Potentially, yes."

<What would you suggest then? Would you send us members of your Armada to train them?> it asks once more, surprising you with its forwardness.

The Eldertree wishes to know what the next step of granting them the powers of elemental manipulation is
>Send members of the Armada/Legion to infuse and train them
>Suggest bringing them to Iti'a'Ropku

Having them come to Iti'a'Ropku, and then given the option of joining the Legion/ respective elemental order temporarily. Since they've shown a distaste for violence, allowing them freedom in that respect seems important.

Here, have a thing.

Hmmm, this is something to consider. I mean, we can send some of the Legionnaires, but I want to make an impression on these guys and allow our Generals to instruct them, or even allow Jadyk himself to be apart of it. But with the situation in Refuge and the other business going on, I don't want to pull them away.

and mention that they could make use of the various orders' existing training facilities. If the Eldertree really doesn't want to, then

>Send members of the Armada/Legion to infuse and train them

I would suggest sending them to our temples for training, the facilites are already and awaiting potentials that way once they are trained and versed in their abilites they may return home to start their own schools/temples

"If it pleases you and the Parliament, I would have the brightest of their number return with me to Iti'a'Ropku. There they would be trained to control their abilities and be educated on the basics. We already have facilities specifically to help with the training of our own energy manipulators," you suggest to the Eldertree, knowing it was the most convenient.

The Eldertree was silent for a time, likely communicating with some other Armatocere. Finally its voice rumbles in your head, <Very well. That shall suffice. We leave it up to the individual to decide whether or not they wish to pursue knowledge of weaponizing these elemental abilities in the way your faction has.>

"If you would prefer we can refrain from that knowledge," you say, surprised by this statement. You hadn't thought of that, thinking that weaponizing the elemental powers was the obvious path for the would-be-trainees.

<It is the choice of each individual mind to decide whether or not they will partake in violence. That is a decision that shapes their lives for eternity. We have no conscripts or mandatory drafts like the Osjiic or Confederates. Those that join our warships to defend our homes do so willingly, volunteering and laying their lives on the line to protect those they care for.> the Eldertree replies with certainty.

The Harbinger bows its head, "From what I have seen, those that do fight for your fleets are brave warriors. My Legion and my people will do their best to help those that return with me to reach their full potential, to bring strength to both the Armada and Armatocere."

Was there anything else you wished to speak to the Armatocere about?

Understand that manipulating these energies forces the body and soul alike of the user to change. I have long wished to study this process the living go through when they take up a power but I fear it is beyond my medical and biological knowledge. I note that you excel in these fields, and would ask that you provide me some insight in them so as to better ensure the wellbeing of my most exalted followers. I have provided you with a window into the forces that control death itself, so I ask that you provide some insight into your vast knowledge of life, in the hope we both profit from such an exchange.

<Basically get the Armatocere to help slow void/necrotic degredation and mutation in living subjects, while also helping us advance our genetic and medical technologies. We're giving them a lot here, I think they owe us that much.>
>>

> Ask if there has been any further issues with the Wraiths, Ahkam, Osjic, Confederacy or the UON.
Just being helpful and disposing of pests.

> Ask if they would like to be officially introduced to the Lavafather, his Obsidianborn, and the Stonestar.
We should make sure all of our allies are friends with each other, and I think it would be very interesting to see what the two of them could come up with working together.

> Talk to them about potentially setting up an embassy on Rukor.
This isn't entirely up to us, and one of their representatives will need to speak with the Ructu's council of elders (their world, their choice), but it would give them a chance to meet a some friendlies that aren't undead, as well as study some of the flora and fauna present on the planet.

By the way, have we cleared up that invasive blue shit that was smothering those villages? I vaguely recall that being the source of our weaponized sludge. If we haven't, that would be a good way of getting into the Ructu's good books.

>>1304023
I doubt they'd have a problem sharing the results of their research. The Armatocere have been extraordinarily helpful so far, and have asked little in return.

We scratch their backs, they scratch ours.
>>
>>1304059
>The Armatocere have been extraordinarily helpful so far
Have they though? Its been ages since they gave us any unique tech, and we just gave them the most unique kind of tech in the quest. The Armatocere haven't really opened up to us in any significant way without us making a first move, and they won't even tell us where their home world is. It all says to me that they don't fully trust us.
>>
>>1304059
>The Armatocere have been extraordinarily helpful so far
They really have not been extraordinarily helpful, they are friends, but they mostly trust us, because everyother time we talk to them we give them like 9 techs at a time, and while i have been gone you want to give them control of the necrotic when the deal was only to teach them the Elemental abilities.. because that can only end well
>>
>>1304074
To be fair, we've only known them for a couple months. They are also incredibly vulnerable to Necrotic energy, so they were making quite a leap of faith when it came to befriending us. Give it time.

>>1304086
...Pretty much the same as my response above. We threw a bunch of tech and research at them to prove that we were friendly and weren't going to go Undead Apocalypse on them.

There's plenty they can offer us, from terraforming and agriculture, to research on the Void, Necrotic, Arc, Solar, and even the Crystal stuff.

There's no real rush here, unless you think Akka-Tor is gonna try some shit in the near future.
>>
>>1304106
And we're making a massive, absolutely colossal leap of faith by awakening the energy potentials among them. Do you have any idea what these people will be capable of once they figure out how to manipulate the solar? Once they reach that point they will become an existential danger to the Necrotic Armada, if they were to attack. Frankly, I've always thought giving the solar to anyone outside of the Armada is completely insane, the fact that we're giving what could become the tools of our own destruction to them is a major display of trust on our part. And they haven't really reciprocated or acknowledged that on their end, given that most of the tech they've given us wasn't actually unique to their faction.

I don't think I'm salty, if anything I'm worried by the fact that they don't seem to recognize the enormity of what we're about to give them. We're about to provide them with the keys to our kingdom and they seem to think this is a glorified recruitment drive for the Legion or something.

"Have you had any issues with our mutual enemies?" you inquire.

<The Wraiths appear to have lessened their attacks but they still appear to prey on isolated ships. The UON has yet to launch another effort to capture our system after you prevented their attempt. Currently we are embroiled in a battle with the Osjiic Empire in a different sector over rights over a system we already laid claim. We do not predict them to escalate and expect them to give up the conquest shortly,> it replies, branches quivering slightly, <If the need arises, we will contact the Armada for assistance. Likewise, if the Armada ever needs aid from us, you may ask it.>

"That is good to hear, Elder," the Harbinger bows then straightens, its main hands clasped behind its back

"I feel I must reiterate the significance of my gift to the Armatocere in sharing knowledge of energy manipulation. Most cultures seem able to only focus on one power to the exclusion of all others. The Osjiic and the Void, the Ahkam and the Arc. I am granting the Armatocere access to the gifts of the four that the Armada has discovered. These energies are forces that can twist and distort their users, both the Void and Necrotic consuming their wielders life energy as fuel. You have seen what becomes of the Voidsingers and the hunger of feral undead, I am afraid you do not grasp the severity of this power," you fall silent for a moment, somewhat frustrated with being unable to read the emotions of the floral species.

The Eldertrees voice speaks in your mind when you pause, <Fear not, Lord Jadyk. The Armatocere know how significant this gift is. I am afraid that many of the races of the Armatocere Collective, the Eldertrees included, do not show or feel the same emotions that give an urgency to the actions and words of the animal races. Know that we are eternally grateful for this opportunity you are sharing with us, Lord Jadyk.>

"Please forgive me for my lack of understanding, Elder. Even us undead seem to be beholden to the ways of the animal races we once were," you shift the conversation to a more optimistic tone, "If it would please the Collective I would extend my aid in helping the Armatocere make peaceful contact with other factions, particularly those allied with the Armada. The ructu have expressed interest in meeting those that helped them during their time of need, several already meeting with Sapling Slrrt in Iti'a'Ropku."

<This would be quite possible. The Bastion system is not distant and we are interested in their worlds biosphere from the samples you have shown us. Very well, we shall have Slrrt arrange for a formal introduction,> it decides suddenly to your satisfaction.

>cont
>>
>>1304314
"They will be pleased by this news, I am certain," you were about to excuse yourself to turn to other matters and arrange for those the Armatocere selected to follow back to Iti'a'Ropku when the thoughtspeech of the Eldertree rumbles in your mind once more.

<It is the hope of the Parliament of Eldertrees that our continued alliance leads to a greater understanding of the nature of this universe than has ever before been achieved. One of the main tenants of the Armatocere Collective is the strive to attain more knowledge, more information to understand this universe we coexist in. With our introduction to you and the Armada we have come to realize that there are pathways of knowledge that are closed and dangerous to us that are the natural domain of others,> it pauses as if to collect its thoughts, <Thanks to the willingness of your Armada to share its knowledge with us we have already advanced in fields of study that have long stymied us. We can only hope that we are assisting you as much as you have us and know that we shall strive to do so if we are lacking.>

You were somewhat surprised by this rather heartfelt admission of the Eldertree, several of the attendant floral members glancing at it. The Harbinger bows low before the pale-barked Elder, "I must admit, that line of reasoning is the same path I took to understanding the importance of having the influence of the living among the Armada. The need for harmonization between widely differing peoples and minds to bring about peace and further the pursuit of knowledge. I am glad to see this is yet another thing that unites the Armada and the Armatocere Collective."

<As are we,> it says simply.

Departing from the Eldertrees chamber the Harbinger mindlessly floats through the "streets" of the Armatocere city, your controlling presence already turned to other matters leaving the Harbinger to return to the ship and await those the Eldertree would select to join Slrrt in Iti'a'Ropku. The Harbingers stared straight ahead, unseeing of the strange sights around it, unnoticing of the floral citizens that pause to watch it pass in silence.

Yet as it continued it finally turns its head, gazing up as a floating vehicle of shaped bark and vibrantly colored petal sails passed overhead. Its pace slows somewhat as the undead turns its eyeless gaze across the strange city it drifted through. Something stirred within it but it obeyed its commands to return to the starship.

A storm raged on Calera, the skies dark as the roiling thunderclouds poured oily rain down on the shoreline buffeted by fierce waves that would have smashed any ship unfortunate to enough to be out at sea against the cliffs. Flashes of lightning streaked the sky or struck the beaches and crowns of stubborn trees that withstood the storms. A scream split the night sky as a Sky Devil sails through the storm far overhead, never knowing how close it was to a hidden enemy.

A Cyclops shifts from where it clung to the salt-sprayed bluffs, its eye following the shadow of the beast with each flash of lightning illuminating it. The Reconstructed's mimetic flesh letting it resemble the rocks it huddled behind to withstand the storm, the Gargoyles forced to roost with the weather. At its signal that the Councils mutated beast was passing by without detecting them the Reconstructed soldiers hidden in the nearby bunker relax and place their javelin launchers back in the weapon rack, returning the braziers of necrotic flame they gathered around.

Buried far below where the ocean carved into cliffs the Wayward Disciples main fortress was hidden. Once a naturally formed cavern hidden by the tides it had been shaped over the weeks into a fortified bastion of the Armada that would have made Agona proud. The cavern reinforced by thick bunker walls and crystalline dampeners to hide from the sensors of the Councils scanner-barges, tunnels sealed off by bulkheads and guarded by automated weaponry and Reconstructed patrols.

Much like the infrastructure honeycombing the mountains of Horizon's Drop the Disciples bases dug through the earth to avoid detection. Yet the Disciple did not stick to just the caverns of the oceans and volcanic regions. Below the tumultuous ocean waves domes of diamond glass and reinforced bone hid among aquatic ridges. Aquatic Reconstructed tended to crops of drop kelp and several local plant crops to feed their catoblepas housed in most of the domes.

Yet one of the domes did not contain any catoblepas and was separate from the others, for inside the Disciple kept the prisoners gained during his stealth ops. Soldiers and loyal citizens of the Council were kept in moderate comfort and fed well using cloned armatocere crops. They were kept there, forced to sleep under the influence of the tall Dreamstone obelisk in the center of the dome that seeped into their dreams and waking minds, the Wayward Disciple encouraging them to partake of the narcotikelp mostly to keep them placid.

Stealth cloaked Coffins ran errands across the surface of the planet, transporting barrels of liquid biomass or stacks of metal ingots to and fro the various mines and biomass farms the Disciple had scattered through the unpopulated wilds of Calera. Mines staffed by newly created Reforged brave the volcanic regions in search of metal veins while also tending to biomass farms reliant on the chemical hotsprings.

The Wayward Disciple had spent his days preparing and building his forces, bunkers filled to the brim with Reconstructed soldiers in hibernation awaiting his orders hidden near his main bunker. Hidden behind false cliff-faces hangars awaited with their Coffins, Gunships and Nails, Gargoyles roosting among the strikecraft when not on patrol.

He knew he was far from being able to stand against the full forces of the Council yet he also knew he had enough to cause them serious pain. Conversing with those he had freed that joined in his crusade against the Council, the Itru Voidsingers among them, they began selecting targets of interest to weaken the Councils hold while the distorted mobile city was absent from the world and making plans for the inevitability of its return.

With a calm determination the Disciple prepared himself and his forces while training the pair of Voidsingers he had created from the freed Itru slaves. They learned the basic lessons and pains of the Voidflame quickly, learning how to attune their bodies to the cosmic hymn that resonated through the universe and draw on its power to bend it to their whims.

There were others, Itru, Human, and Vorh, that had been freed during the few raids the Wayward Disciples forces had carried out, that pledged themselves to the Armada. Already familiar with the Wormstar and beaten down by the oppressive regime of the Council they were quite eager to accept the ways and lessons of Jadyk, praising his name alongside the likes of Voidlord Ghul and the Wormstar itself.

They attentively listened to the lessons of the demi-Think Tanks channeling information through the Deep Rot relay connecting them with the Armada sectors away. They cheered and celebrated as they learned news of the Armada's victories, the reports becoming a constant reminder that there were worlds out there waiting for them. They convinced themselves that by helping the Wayward Disciple that they would be able to return with him to the promised city, the Home of All Souls. Iti'a'Ropku dominated their dreams, a shining mirror of salvation to the twisted city of the Council that had consumed their lives and waking world.

It surprised the Disciple when he made this realization, that he too hoped to someday bring this loyal members of the Armada with him back to Curou Sector and deliver the Wormstars fragment to Jadyk.
