So you just somehow found a master and a new home on Enlia, The Brave Knight Francis’ daughter! That’s something to behold! The path to becoming a Hero is looking good and not as bumpy as before. But…

Enlia told you to get your things! It’s time to move out of your home. Kids grow up so fast… Sniff*

Now seriously, she told you to get everything ready while she cleans up a room for you and plans your training. You don’t know how long that is going to take, but you have stuff to deal with so it’s time to kill time!

What are you going to do now?

>Go home! Take your stuff. Leave a note saying you’re leaving!
>Go to the Town Hall and tell the Mayor you found your master!
>Go to the Champagne Bear! The Restaurant Gretchen is working right now and tell her what’s going on.
>Go home, prepare your stuff and wait for your family to get back and tell them the news yourself. Enlia will have to wait a little while though.

(Small change in how I’m draw to do it faster)

It’s a family matter that has to be discussed. Let’s go to the Champagne Bear and talk to Gretchen first, then later with your parents.

You arrived to the place where the prices of food are un-bear-iable low! Of all bear puns, that’s the best they got?... Anyway, you enter in search for Gretchen, one of her coworkers greets you:

“Welcome to the Champagne Bear, what can I give you?”

“I’m searching for Gretchen.”

“The newbie? She’s over there.” She points to one of the tables that Gretchen is serving. You go over there.

“Gretchen?”

“Uh? Nora? What?”

“Do you have a moment?”

“Obviously no, wait for my turn to end!”

“And that’s…”

“In half an hour, now go, I’ll catch up with you outside…”

You go out of the Champagne Bear. That was beary useless. You wait for Gretchen while sitting in a bench nearby.

“Now I’m free. What’s up?” She’s finally out.

“Heh, you’re not mad anymore.”

“I was not mad… just frustrated”

“Anyway I have something important to tell you.”

“My gut is telling me I’m not going to like it…”

What do you say?

>I’m leaving home! I’m going to start my training soon!
>I’m pregnant… Nah, I’m kidding. I’m moving out of home. (Explain what’s happening).
>I’ll tell you at home. Let’s talk about how was your first day!

Can't take too much time here, we need to inform the mayor that there is no need in the immediate future to find us a master (though I maintain that way could learn from more once we graduate Enlia)

“I’m pregnant.”

“WHAT?!”

“I’m kidding! I’m kidding! I’m just moving out of home!”

“WHAT?!”

“Relax, here is what happened…” (You explain what happened)

“WHAT?!”

“Okay, stop that.”

“You’re so easy to tease…”

“Aren’t you going to stop me?”

“I’m going to stop you when you start risking your life for no reason, not when you’re trying to learn self-defense. Of course I’m going to check on that cripple master of yours, she sounds like a total failure and apt for this… But I guess life is going to get pretty boring for me… Hehehe…” She sounds sad.

“I just wanted you to be the first to know, I’m going to the town hall, I need to speak to the mayor.”

“I’ll go with you. My turn is over, remember? Maybe it’s time for to cash in for my present, hehehe.” Her laugh sounds creepy.

“Okay, let’s go.”

You’re in the Town Hall, only Reda is here.

“Hello, Miss Nora and…”

“Gretchen.”

“Miss Gretchen, I supposed you are here for the present our mayor offered you.”

“Hehehe… Straight to the point, I like that.”

“Uhm… I’m here to tell the mayor there is no need in the immediate future to find me a master. Later maybe.”

“I’ll keep looking for someone suitable then.” Reda smiles. “So, Miss Gretchen, what would you like? I’ll be the one doing the paperwork and—“

“A boat.”

“A boat?”

“Yes.”

“What kind of boat?”

“One for traveling the seas, not enormous since I’ll be the only one using it.”

“A boat it is. I’ll do the paperwork right now, go to the harbor and show the paper I’m going to give you; you can pick any boat there. Of course the sailors are going to be the ones telling you if it’s off limits or not. Are you okay with this?”

“Yeah, sure. Are your papers magical or what?”

“It’s like any other paper, Miss Gretchen.” Reda starts working on the papers, it doesn’t seem like she’s going to tell one of her weird stories… Maybe it’s because Gretchen is here.

What do you do?

>”Reda, aren’t you going to tell me another story?”
>Stare at her silently.
>Write In.

Helmaer? If we wanted to bring him to justice, we should have just told the mayor that he deserted his group when we explained how things went. It's a little late now.
And the last thing we want is the detective friend to develop an interest in our personal business.

“Could you tell me about that friend of yours? I know a certain person who needs some justice aimed at him…”

“About Miss Zaina? You could go talk to her directly; she’s the owner of an antique shop near the main plaza. She’ll be happy to help you if it’s about bringing justice.”

“I think I know her…” Gretchen says.

“You do?”

“Long story. I’ll tell you another day.”

“I like hearing stories, Miss Gretchen.”

“This story is a bit more private…”

“Oh, I see. Do you mind if I tell one myself?”

“Go ahead.” You say.

“You know about how the Great Flood started?”

“Yeah, it started to rain… and didn’t stop until it did.” Gretchen says sarcastically.

“No such curse starts randomly Miss Gretchen.”

“Curse?”

“Yes. There was a time where our world was drowning in darkness, and—”

“Oh my god. Don’t give us that religion bullshit. Thank god everyone who believed that nonsense drown.”

“I-I… don’ think it’s nonsense…”

“Anyway I heard it before. So did Nora. That’s taught in school to everyone… It’s weird that you’re acting like nobody heard this before, are you from around here, Reda? Hmph? It’s not like I have seen your face here in all of these years…”

“I-I… Your papers are ready! Here! I need to get home! I’ll see you soon, Miss Gretchen, Miss Nora. Good Night!” Reda gives Gretchen the paper and rapidly goes to the back. You heard the door getting lock.

“…Well, that was suspicious to say the least. Not that I care much. Let’s go.”

“Good bye, Reda! Sorry for making you feel uncomfortable!” You yell.

You go back home with Gretchen, inside she helped you packing. Your parents haven’t arrived yet.

“Well, everything is packed. You’re ready to go. C’mon, it’s getting late.”

How about we ask them and the master of we could invite Gretchen as well?

She's a waitress, maybe she's good in the kitchen?

We could, but Gretchen isn't supposed to be the one paying for our lessons, not to mention Enlia's method probably isn't too different from Mr. Miyagi's.
Also do we really want mom and dad to have both daughters leave the nest at once?

(Casted the votes early, sorry 'bout that. It's a combination of everything, so I think it's okay.)

“What’s up with you now?” Gretchen says.

“Let’s wait for our parents I want to tell them myself.”

“Why? It’s not like you’re leaving the town. You’re like 50 minutes away from here. You know dad’s need exercise with that belly of his and Mom is looking soft lately too.”

“Since when you cared about how much they weight?”

“I don’t, it’s a joke. Now move. If they get mad, I’ll take responsibility.”

“If you say so. I’ll write them a note at least.”

It took you five minutes, but you composed a pretty heartwarming letter.

“Are you crying?” Gretchen looks with disgust.

“No, I’m not!”

“You don’t need to cry, they will probably visit you tomorrow.”

“Here. That’s the direction. Reda gave it to me before.” You hand her the paper.

“Uh? You don’t want me to go with you now?”

“Uh… well… I….”

What do you do?

>”I’ll offer you something better, why don’t you come with me and stay with us? We'll find a way to make you useful!”
>Let Gretchen go with you, so she can meet Enlia.

>>
>>1265432

Maybe? So they could get started on the third one?
>>
>>1265457
Gretchen should be here when the parents come home if we leave the note behind.

I think our options are as follow: have Gretchen walk with us and leave the letter with her once we part ways.
Leave both the letter and gretchen behind now.

It seems like the parents of these two are used to their daughters wandering the town until late, so they probably would not be worried to find no one home. If that is the case, then I'd go with option 1, having Gretchen along and entrusting the letter to her.

Otherwise, if there's a chance of the parents coming home first and get worried by the absence of both daughters, then I'd say bye to Gretchen here and leave her along with the letter.
>>
>>1265457
>Leave Gretchen here for now, she can try and answer any questions that aren't covered in the letter.

“It’s better if you stay, so if our parents get home you can answer any questions I didn’t covered in the letter. I entrust you it. Besides you seem a bit tired from work.”

“Okay, sure, I’ll visit tomorrow though. And while I’m used to deal with dumb people it’s kind of tiring anyway.”

“That’s bad, but— what do you mean by that?”

“Hehe… Nothing.”

“I guess it’s good bye...”

“Yup…”

“Wanna hug?”

“Sure.”

You both hug each other.

“Take care, sis.” Gretchen says while her voice starts to crack.

“Aww! You never call me sister!”

“Shut the fuck up, Nora! Don’t ruin it!” She’s in the verge of tears. She got all sentimental… You too are about to cry. You leave while waving at her; she does the same and starts crying.

In your bag you have clothes, food and some cookware, just in case…

You arrive at Enlia’s house.

“Enlia, are you there?” You yell while knocking the door.

“Yes! You’re finally here, Nora!” The door slowly opens, Enlia receives your with a smile. “I have prepared everything for your training.”

“That’s great! Before we go into that, what’s my room? I need to leave this stuff there.”

“I… I forgot about that.”

“What?”

“I… got carried away doing the schedule that I forgot to clean up one of the rooms.”

“I’ll do it then. Don’t worry.”

“No, no, no! We’ll do it tomorrow; we’ll share room for the day. I mean, we won’t even need to sleep with all we have to talk.”

“O…kay…” You’re a bit worried; she seems a bit obsessed with training.

“But first, I need you to test you! What’s the point in having all of this if you’re incapable of carrying the load?” She shows you some papers

“Uh…”

>Can we do that tomorrow? I just got here.

“You mean, we’ll share it for the night.”

“What?”

“The room… it’s already night… and—“

“Pfft… hahaha.” She laughs very loudly. It kind of scares you. “S-sorry! I always had an easy time laughing… well, not lately.” She composes herself.

“I glad you liked my joke. Anyway, let’s do this. What the test?”

“Test? No, my new found friend, Tests!”

“Uh-oh…”

“Don’t worry; it’s not about passing them! It’s about seeing your aptitudes!”

“That sounds doable.”

“Now, let’s go to the back, there is a giant rock I need you to lift.”

“Uh-oh…”

After some non-descripted tests, you’re finally done. Enlia congratulates you in a job well done. You’re so incredible tired you crawl your way to the bed you’re sharing with Enlia. She felt bad ‘cause she couldn’t help you.

“Tomorrow I’ll tell you what kind of training we’ll have! But now, have sweet dreams.”

You put your pajama on and got inside the bed.

“You use pajamas?”

“Y-you don’t?”

“I just use one of my father’s shirt. They are big.”

“That totally counts as a pajama.”

“If you said so. Ehem, Sweet dreams again.”

But no sweet dreams were meant to be had. At some point in the night, Enlia starts sobbing and crying while sleeping… she’s very loud. Too loud for your comfort. She had a tough life, but you had a tough day. What do you do?

>”Enlia, wake up, I can’t sleep.”
>Try somehow to sleep through the noise.
>Take your pillow and go to another room.

I've got the best idea!

I say we try to gently wake her up (doesn't sound like she's enjoying her current dream much anyway).
BUT!
This is a dark room and we are tired as fuck, so author, if you don't mind me proposing this, how about you roll 2d6.
If the result is:
between 12 and 8, we succesfully grab her shoulder for a gentle shake.
between 7 and 3, we fail and grab a tit instead.
between 2 and 1, epic failure, our hand effortlessly slips between the buttons of her father's large sgirt and we grab a bare boob! Total panic!

Leaving the question of kinkyness aside, the accidental boob grab is quite likely the stupidest trope ever invented.
>>
>>1266083
Headpats seconded.
>>
Perhaps I don't know how these things work between girls but, as a guy, I don't think I'd be comfortable with someone I just met the day before embracing me and comforting me in an intimate (albeit non-sexual) fashion.
It'd weird me the fuck out and I'd probably push this person away, getting rather upset.

Whether it gets to the accidental kink or not, gently shaking her awake seems more reasonable in this context.
Support can be shown afterwards (once she's conscious and less likely to wake up startled and go "what the fuck did you think you were doing?!") in different manners depending on what attitude she is in.
>>
Agreed with gently shaking her awake.

(Perfect roll, uh? Let’s go with that.)

You’ll deal with her!... by waking her up. You softly push her.

“Hey… hey…”

“Uh… ah? Mom?”

“No, I’m Nora…”

“Ah?!” She opens her eyes wide open and moves away from you, she almost falls out of the bed. “W-what happened?”

“You’re crying and sobbing, you’re not letting me sleep.”

“…Uh? I’m sorry; I’ll try not doing that… It’s just… forget it. It’s sleep time. Sweet Dreams.”

“You know if you want to vent just do it, I’m all ears…”

“No, it’s okay. I’ll contain.”

Both of you go back to sleep. Sadly it was useless, she starts crying again, even more loudly than before. You woke her up again less gently than before.

“Enlia, you keep doing it.”

“Ah? Uh?... Sorry… I just…” She goes back to sleep. She starts crying yet again.

“God damn it.” You’re getting frustrated. “Wake up!”

“Aaah! What?!”

“You keep crying.”

“I’m sorry, I can’t stop it…”

“Then let me try something if it happens again. But don’t get mad at me if you don’t like it.”

“Okay… I’m too tired to argue… I’ll go back to sleep.”

Guess what? She’s crying again. It’s going to be always like this? Well you took matters in your hands. Like you do sometimes when Gretchen weeps at night, you tried to gently tickle her… she’s rather soft… anyway, it doesn’t seem to do anything.

Well time for plan C! You embrace her and give her headpats while singing to her lightly that everything’s going to be okay, in other words, the same lullaby your mother sang to you and Gretchen when you were little. This never failed to calm down Gretchen when she was a child! But you weren’t the one doing it, Mom was.

Results are quick! Her sobbing stopped! But Enlia ends up hugging you back firmly, her face is buried over your chest. It’s a bit uncomfortable, but way better than hearing her cry. You try to accommodate yourself, but Enlia doesn’t let you… This is your life now, you’re her teddy bear.

It’s morning! You open your eyes and see Enlia, sitting on her side of the bed… she seems to be waiting for you to wake up, she looks flustered..

“N-Nora! You’re awake! I-I-I’m so sorry for what happened! I was just too sleepy to realize! And I— ”

“Uh?... That’s okay… Don’t worry about it.” You didn’t sleep well after all.

“No! It’s okay! I’ll make breakfast! This is my way to compen—” Enlia jumps out of her bed and quickly falls flat on the floor.

“Are you okay? You forgot your cane…”

“Yeah… I sometimes forget I had to use that thing…”You help her. “I’m your teacher and the only thing I have done is embarrassing myself in front of you.”

“Don’t say—“ You hear the door.

“Uh? I didn’t expect any visit. Can you peek from the window to see who it is? If it’s Iged just tell him to go away… I’ll make breakfast.”

You change your clothes as quickly as you can and make yourself more presentable, then you open the door.

“Mom! Gretchen! You’re here!”

“Oooh, My little girl is all grown up now!” Mom hugs you. “Your father couldn’t come; he’s rather busy with work.”

“So… this is the place? Doesn’t look that good. Not like ours is any better.” Gretchen remarks.

“Now, Gretchen, you promised me you were going to be polite.”

“Yeah, whatever, we aren't going to be here for too long anyway, we need to go to work soon… so could you let us in? The outside view isn’t that great.”

“… and her name is Enlia, and she’s going to be my master.”

“Very nice to meet you Master Enlia, thank you for taking care of my daughter.”

“It’s a pleasure, you daughter have been an outstanding and very kind individual to my family and I, I hope I can give the favor back.”

“So, what’s that?” Gretchen points to the bread.

“That’s our breakfast.” Enlia says.

“It’s our appetizer, I’ll make something else.” You say.

“Let me help you, sweetheart.” You mother gets up.

“There is no need.”

“I’ve been doing this for 18 years for you. One more time is not going to hurt me.”

You took the cookware and some food from your bag and with the help of your mother, you both started making breakfast. While you make it, Gretchen and Enlia are chatting; they seem to be having a good time. Food is ready, you and Enlia start eating; both Gretchen and your mother already ate breakfast.

“So, Master Enlia, you’re so kind of free spirit?”

“What do you mean?” Enlia asks.

“You’re not wearing any pants.” Gretchen grins.

“Uh… I thought Nora explained to you our situation right now and besides we’re all women, right?” She says nervously.

“I like your carefree attitude; I never like my daughters to be under strict rules. But I do hope it doesn’t translate into sinner’s behavior…”

“Yes… carefree… wait, what do you mean by that?” She hides her face behind her teacup.

Everyone in the room is confused by that remark. So young… so innocent… the reaction made your mother laugh. After a little exchange of words, your family leaves for work. You can tell your mother left very worried about you, you don’t know why exactly. Gretchen remarked she’s going to visit again when her work for the day is done.

“Nora, you have a nice family.” Enlia stares melancholically to the door. “Now, let’s get to business! Bring me my clothes! We need to talk about the results.”

You go to Enlia’s room and got her clothes.

“So… while the tests we did yesterday gave me a clear vision of what type of capabilities you have. Now you have to past these real super tough challenges I’ve planned! Are you ready?” She changed clothes.

“Yes!” You’re ready!

“Then pick wisely; What challenge you want to surpass first?!... “

“So Wisdom… hmph… This is perhaps the toughest challenge of them all.. Here, take this.” She gives you a small bag. “Inside there are 5 Silver Pieces. With that money you need to obtain these items from this list!”

They are all blacksmith tools.

“So you want me to go shopping?”

“Yes, kind of.”

“How is this wisdom challenge again?”

“You need the Wisdom… of bargains.”

“Are all the challenges going to be like this?”

“Unfortunately, yes…” She stares at the ground. “I’m sorry; this is the best I came up with.”

“Uh… Okay, don’t sweat it; you’re new at this…” This is underwhelming.

“Ehem, Good luck, my apprentice!”

You wonder if the strength based one was beating the bear. Anyway, off you go! You need to get the items before midnight… Thankfully, you only need a hammer and a pincer.

You went directly to the Local Ironworks, ‘It Ironworks sometimes’! What’s up with the bad names around here?

Anyway, you enter, a boring looking receptionist talks to you. He's reading the newspaper.

“Welcome, miss. Need something to forge? Our blacksmith is out for the moment so you’ll have to wait.”

“Oh no no no. I need to buy some tools from you.”

“What kind of tools.”

“These” You give him the list. “Okay… these cost one gold coin each.”

“How much is that in Silver Pieces?”

“Uh… 10 for each.”

Uh-oh…

“I only have 5.”

“It doesn’t matter, if you pay with Silver Pieces the price is 25 for both, anyway. Remember if you pay with Gold Pieces you get cheeper prices and bargains.”

“Uh… I know. But thanks anyway.”

“My pleasure.” He goes back to reading the newspaper.

“You know I…” You stare at the newspaper.

“Hmph?” he stares at you.

“Sorry, nothing. Thanks for your time, sir.”

“Have a nice day, lady.”

You leave the Ironworks in search for the Antique Shop… That’s the place the mad scientist detective owns. The peculiar place stands out by the way it looks. You can feel the somber atmosphere. You enter.

“Welcome…” a pale looking lady is at the counter, she seems to be constructing some kind of weird artifact, she takes her goggles off. “How can I help you, miss?”

“I’m here for Blacksmith tools…”

“Blacksmith tools? What kind of Blacksmith tools?” You show her the list. “Uh, pretty simple. How much money do you have?”

“5 Silver Pieces.”

“That in no world is enough.”

“In no world? What a weird expression to say.”

“Sorry, after being coined as the mad scientist, I haven’t had normal conversations in a long time.” She finally looks at you. “Wait…”

She gets closer to you.

“Did I—?”

“You have the same look in your eyes as… I-Il... M-Maybe you too have the same willpower. ”

“What do you mean? You’re scaring me…” You move away from her.

Well... let’s get to the Main Plaza. Maybe you find a way to gain some money there.

Main Plaza is full of children running around at the middle; it seems a clown is also in the center and is making some noise.

You see at the side a group of people congregated, there seems to be some kind of bets going on.

Far away, you see a man slowly moving a cart full of boxes. Looks heavy...

You go where the cart is. A tired man is moving the cart slowly.

“Hello, do you need some assistance?” You ask.

“Oh thank god someone finally offer— A girl? Oh man…”

“What’s wrong?”

“Don’t ‘what’s wrong’-me, if I wanted a muse to watch, I would go to the Champagne Bear.”

“C’mon, let me help you, I’m tougher than I look.”

“I hope you’re.”

You both joined forces to move the cart! Sadly you didn’t move it too much before feeling exceptionally tired. Maybe it’s the lack of sleep or the fact you made those tests with Enlia, anyway. It seems like a complete failure.

“Guess you weren’t that tough!”

“Damn… it…”

“Move aside lady, I need to keep going. Thanks for that, I guess.”

You feel like a failure.

What do you do?

“Maybe there is something wrong with the cart.”

“What? No, it’s the rocky path… this is last time I use the plaza as a shortcut.”

“Then I’ll keep pushing!”

“Lady is not necessary…”

“I insist.”

Persistence is Key! You use all your might and together with this completely unknown man… didn’t accomplish a thing! The cart moved, but the rocky path is still long and, in your eyes, impossible to traverse. You plummet.

“Lady, are you okay?! Oh geez, we’re making a scene.”

Indeed, a crowd congregates around you and the cart.

“What happened?” everything starts to look blurry to you.

“She tried to help me but she got exhausted and—“ You can’t distinguish who’s saying what.

“What kind of pathetic man makes a girl do that?”

“I told her I didn’t need her help!”

You slowly lose consciousness… That was… not very wise of you.

You wake up… you’re home. Enlia’s home. You’re on her bed; she’s by your side sitting in chair.

“Did I move the cart?” you foolishly ask.

“No, you didn’t. Thank god I was looking out for you because that could have turned ugly. You can’t push yourself like this, imagine if it was a real battle! Ugh… I don’t know how you can pass out doing the Wisdom Challenge.”

“Does that mean…”

“Yes, you failed the challenge… but it’s my fault too. I shouldn’t have let you do it if you weren’t at your 100%.”

“Damn it… I…”

“Just rest, Nora. We will see what we are going to do later.” Enlia leaves the room. You hear the door being knocked. You hear Enlia and Gretchen talking. You can’t make out what they are saying. Gretchen enters the room.

“Nora, what happened?” She looks pissed.

Well today was a failure.
I don't blame the author though. We had been given a very clear visual cue in this picture >>1268587
and when an attempt to take the hint was ventured
>>1268596
using wisdom to make the money we were given suffice to the rask we had (which was our mission, not go beg for more. I mean if that had been the solution, we could have just borrowed the extra money from our parents), the idea was shot down by the majority of anons, who then insisted on pushing a cart beyond what was reasonable, despite today's trial being wisdom.

So yeah, today sucked, but the author is in no way at fault here.

“Did you happen to know that carts are very heavy?”

You made Gretchen smirk. She sighs and then starts talking:

“You dumb fool, we live one day by yourself and you almost get yourself killed. I only asked you to take care of yourself!”

“The other day you left by myself I defeated a beast that killed thousands!”

“Hundreds.”

“Yeah, that.”

“Well, I visited you before you woke up, so I know more or less what happened… You really did worry me. But I see you’re fine. I’ll be cleaning the other room so I can stay the night with you. I already asked Enlia by the way and I haven’t told our parents what happened to you. After what our mother saw at morning plus this, you’re not going to keep doing this training stuff.”

“Gretchen… Wait, what kind of excuse you told our parents to let you come for the night?”

“I told them I want to know how things were for you here, so I’ll stay to get some information… not far from truth anyway.”

“Are they really that worried?”

“Just Mom. Dad doesn’t care much, he said ‘My little girl knows her limits and if she ever had the need to come back then she shall come back. And our arms will always be open for her’. You know how he is… and after todays display his sooooo wrong.” She smirks. You look down. “Come on, look up, you’re not the one who gets down for stuff like this.”

Gretchen leaves the room. You can move by the way, you just need to be careful.

The wise option would be to rest, and it’s never too late for being wiser. You get in your bed again and stared at the ceiling. You think about what has happened over the course of a few days. About defeating the beast, getting rid of Silver Grin and your choice to leave home and becoming a hero.

What would it be the best course of action? Of course it’s hard for you to make a sensible decision when you don’t know so many factors. What is going to change in Enlia’s approach about your training? What was the thing that was bothering Mom? What kind of hero are you training to become?... So many questions.

“You still awake?” Gretchen gets in the room.

“Yes, I am.” You say while keeping staring at the ceiling.

“What’s got into you?”

“Just thinking…”

“Come on, you can finally use that brain of yours in the other room.”

Gretchen helps you go to the other room. It’s more spacious than Enlia’s room. There are two beds in here; you presume this is where her siblings slept. You get in the bed.

“Hey Gretchen.”

“Just rest.”

“But I want to know what it really bugged Mom about this place.”

“Then give me a minute, I’ll change and tell your master we’re going to sleep.”

“O-okay.”

Gretchen leaves, you eavesdrop their conversation by putting your ear against the wall.

“We’re going to sleep by the way.”

“Yeah, tomorrow we’re going to talk about what happened.”

“I hope you don’t make her do something stupid so soon again.”

“Don’t worry, I too learned my lesson.”

“I didn’t mean to sound harsh…”

“It’s okay; I know you’re worried about her. B-by the way, I seem to sleep talk. So if anything bothers you or Nora at night is probably me.” Well that’s settle, I guess?

“…Okay? Good night, Master Enlia.”
“Sweet Dreams, Gretchen.”

You hear Gretchen coming; you get inside your bed again.

“Nora, you’re not so subtle.”

“You heard me?!” You say surprised.

“No, but you just confirm it. You sneaky dummy. Now I’ll turn off the light, let’s chat for a bit before we doze off.” She changes to her pajama and turn off the candle. “So what do you want to chat about?”

“About what made Mom so—“

“Your breakfast meal was two pieces of bread, the whole house is dirty and your friend is a cripple with no job. Not to mention, all the ‘food’ in here was just bottles of rum.”

“Oh, I guess she was right about being worried. Well, can I ask you about your life?”

“No. Good night.” She turns around and doesn’t let you bug her.

“C’mon Gretchen…”

“Shut up, you need to rest, if I vent now you and I wouldn’t have a minute of rest.”

“If you say so…” You finally doze off.

In the middle of night Gretchen wakes you up…

“D-did you hear that?”

“What?...” You hear Enlia sobbing, but from this room it’s bearable.

“I-I think it’s a ghost…” She’s trembling like a poor kitty, she has her sheets around her body, she looks like a cucumber. “Maybe its Silver Grin, he came back for us…”

Yeah, Gretchen is scared of ghosts. It’s the main reason your mother had to console her so much at night. You wonder how she managed to traverse the path at night with the Horse Wagon before.

“Hehehe” You chuckle a little.

“W-what’s so funny?” You being so composed is soothing her nerves.

“It’s Enlia. Come on Gretchen, she told you she sleep talks.”

“She sounds like fucking ghost lamenting the loss of his child.”

“You almost got it. But don’t worry nothing bad is going to happen.”

“I-If you say so.”

“Want to move beds together? Mom is not here to calm you.”

“N-no, it’s okay. I need to calm myself or I’ll never be strong enough to leave home. Thanks Nora anyway.” You both went to sleep again.

It’s morning once again. You see around you and Gretchen is sucking her thumb yet again. Does everyone you know has some weird sleep habit? Anyway, you felt decent. Your muscles are tingling a bit, but that’s bearable in your state. You change back to your normal clothes.

“Are you awake?” Enlia peeps slowly opening the door. She’s whispering

“Gretchen is asleep; we’ll talk in the kitchen.” You whisper back.

“She told it’s her free day anyway, she doesn’t work on weekends.”

“Then let her enjoy it.” You smile.

You prepare breakfast while you talk with Enlia.

“So my challenge was a failure…” You started the conversation.

“I’m sorry.” Enlia responds.

“Don’t be. It’s my fault.” You own it like a big girl.

“I thought about this all night.” You know that’s not true. “But I think I know how to exactly train you. Based on the tests, you have no great aptitude, you’re not strong, nor fast, nor smart, nor perce—”

“I get it.”

“S-sorry, this is something I didn’t test, but you’re a very resilient. You have a great willpower. That’s the more powerful ability a hero can have. So it doesn’t matter what my tests said. You can be whatever you want. So let’s focus on that and not making dumb challenges to see if you’re worthy or not… So tell me, what kind of hero you want to be?”

“I…” You keep cooking.

“If you’re not sure, we can do one more thing…”

“And that is?”

“There is a weird person in town, her name is Zaina, and she made an artifact to identify the strengths and aptitudes of people.” You don’t like where this is going. “She made it ‘to find the great hero to defeat Yipin or something’; I don’t know who that is. But this could help us clear the view in your path, so what do you want to do?”

>Sure, let’s wait for Gretchen and go.

That's what I'd respond to her.
But I'd also like to vouch my preference for what specialization Nora could go for.

I think ranged fighting may be our best bet.

As Enlia said, we are not strong, so the great Knight isn't happening.
We surprised a rat that was on fire. We did NOT surprise Helmaer who spotted us and called us out!
So I think that leaves only one option.

“First let me ask you this: Do you think she’ll let me use this artifact even though I’m not her great hero? Or should I be afraid that she’ll decide I AM the great hero she’s waiting for?”

“First, she’s searching for a hero and she lets anyone use her artifact if the person wants to become a hero. When my dad and I meet her, she used it on us. It’s nothing weird and she’s a very pleasant lady.” You disagree. “Second, if both my father and I weren’t good enough for her, what makes you think you are? C’mon Nora, you need to be more humble.” Seems like you stroke a nerve.

“S-sorry, let’s wait for Gretchen then go.”

“Waiting for what?” it’s Gretchen! She just woke up. “You girls talk too loudly.”

“I’m sorry.” Enlia says.

“You should be sorry for more than that.” Gretchen stares daggers at Enlia. She seems confused.

“Well, Gretchen...” You explain what you are going to do. “Are you up for it?”

“Why not? I could take the test thingy too.”

“You want to be hero too, Gretchen?” Enlia asks.

“Heck no. I’ll be there anyway, so why not try it?”

After you three ate breakfast you go to the antique shop. Mad Scientist Zaina is there.

“Welcome…” She’s staring at a weird looking sword handgrip. “Yes! You came back.” She jumps over her counter and holds both of your hands. Enlia and Gretchen are weirded out.

“Sup’” Gretchen says to break the ice, Enlia waves at Zaina.

“Enlia, it’s been a long time, and you… you’re that girl… it’s good to see you again.”

“I’m Gretchen, it’s a pleasure.” They have a small handshake.

“What happened to never ever come back to Aliheath, Gretchen?”

“I had a change of plans.” She grins at you.

“Well let’s not indulge in matters of the past; in what can I help you ladies?”

“We came to use the artifact that displays the aptitudes of a person.” Enlia says.

“Then be my guest…” Zaina points to a weird looking helmet. “So who’s first?”

“Before we start. I’m Nora, nice to meet you…”

“I’m Zaina! (She strikes a pose.) And I’m a seeker of justice… and owner of this antique shop. I’m sorry for the way I treated you yesterday. I hope we have a splendid relationship from now on.”

“…You are… very eccentric. And I pray for the same. One question, does the offer from yesterday still stands?”

“Yes, it does… Especially for you.”

“I can tell why she creeps you out.” Enlia intervenes.

“Anyway, Gretchen, you go first.”

“What, why me? You came specifically to put the damn helmet.”

“I don’t know; I have a bad feeling…”

“So I have to be your guinea pig? Whatever, I’ll do it, just because of what you did last night.”

“Excellent. Please sit down here. Don’t worry, Gretchen, nothing bad is going to happen.” Zaina puts the weird looking helmet around Gretchen’s head. Then takes a weird looking potion out of a tiny box nearby and drops a little of it on a particular compartment of the helmet. The Helmet starts rumbling a bit. Then stops after making a ‘Tink’ Noise.

“NAME PLEASE.”

“Uh… Gretchen?”

“Fantastic… no one knows magic anymore you dumb helmet.” She turns to you. “I had the little bit of hope that I would be an extraordinary hero so I could rub it in your face… I guess not.”

She takes the helmet off. There is a paper coming out of the helmet.

“What’s this?”

“More private information, I let it print it out since the first model tended to embarrass everyone with this additional data.”

Gretchen reads it. “W-what?! S-shit!”

You stare at Gretchen.

“I’ll show you if you show me yours when it’s ready.”

“Average, uh?” You quickly grab the paper the helmet gives you.

“I have some explaining to do.” Zaina says. “The machine is a little harsh in general when it describes a Hero’s Potential. So Below Average is kind of good, and Average is good.”

“But before you were so sure I was the hero you were wanting.”

“You have a special ability no one but two persons I met have, but most likely it’s out of your reach. Sorry. But with that willpower of yours, so who knows?”

“Can these stats change?” Gretchen asks.

“Yes, but it’s very difficult. Except for the worse, that could happen easily… like…” She stares at Enlia. “Anyway that’s it.”

You kiss Gretchen on the cheek.

“Well, who knows?” You say with a grin in your face.

You walk off. Gretchen gets beyond embarrassed, she would never have guessed you were going to do that, she totally froze. Enlia keeps walking besides you.

“I guess your mother was a little too permissive with you two.”

“That happens when you can’t handle the banter.”

“Ooh, so it was a joke. I guess she teased you too much… hehe.” There something weird in the way she told you that, but you don’t know why.

“GRETCHEN!”

“Hehe… Got you there, Nora.”

“Girls, stop fighting.” Enlia gets in the middle. “You don’t want to say something that could be really hurtful.”

“You’re right.” Gretchen concludes.

“Well, Anyway, Nora, you have every bit of information you need, now it’s time to decide. What kind of hero you want to be?”

As I remarked before, we failed to sneak on Helmaer (were heard) and we may have gotten a sneak attack on the rat but it was running away in pain.

“I think I’ll be a Rogue, sucks a bit because I wanted to learn range combat too.”

“What makes you think you couldn’t?” Enlia asks. “Archery is the easiest thing if you know what you’re doing. And Gretchen here would kill me if you didn’t know the safest way of attacking.”

“Yeah, Master Enlia knows what’s up.” Gretchen smirks.

“But Stealth training… It’s going to be interesting. It’s a lot more wits based than being a knight. But Nora, I’m excited.” Enlia gives you a bright smile. “I’ll make you the greatest hero our land has ever seen. Let’s start immediately Nora, no dumb challenges, no more tests. Time to get you to know the way of the blade… and arrow… hehe.”

And so, Nora’s boring and methodical training began! But with the support of Enlia and her family, no task seem impossible!... Except getting discounted Blacksmith tools, that’s fucking impossible!

I hope you guys don’t mind the change of line art; it makes everything go so much faster. I’ll try to make them look better next time though.

To the anon who dug up Zaina’s pic, well you earned a gift, you can either pick between me drawing you a not so quick doodle of whatever you want related to the quest or you decide who’s in the next week’s OP from the characters that have appeared so far. Kay. I choose a picture of that gate guard who didn't fill out the logbook getting fired or stuck on an even shitter job. Will his life be ruined because we called him out? Will he spread his tale of woe around town and turn everyone against us? Nah.

Uh, this is the first time we wrap up with nothing really immediate to submit prompts for. I guess with the announced timeskip, we can consider this the end of the first arc.

I get the feeling our initial training was supposed to go on longer and in more detail; but things, primarily the spectacular failure at wisdom and the short sessions, caused a change of plans.

I'm gonna have to say, this third thread didn't live up to the previous two. But at least, the author gave us a boon with this close and allowed us to be a stealth fighter that also does range, something that fits Nora's girly physique perfectly.

It really was day 2 that was a disaster, with days 1 and 3 being too short to make up for it.
Things started off bad with people arguing with each other and recommending irl death because they didn't like where the quest was being taken (but such is the nature of this place).
Then the chance to use our notoriety as a bargaining tool was blown over a misunderstanding and we know how that ended.

It should be noted though that the prompts may have been a bit misleading or at least seemingly conflicting with Enlia's instructions.
We were told to obtain the items with the money we were given, yet the prompts repeatedly suggested we look for ways to make more money which, as was remarked before, means we could have shown "wisdom" simply by borrowing the extra money from our parents (it's a safe and simple solution, isn't it?), but that wouldn't have made for much of a test.

Something I wonder, if after we left Zaina's shop (something we did not choose to do) we'd written in to go back and give her our name, would we have passed the wisdom challenge that easily?
If not, I know betting does not display wisdom, so I guess the solution would have been either the clown or the bar (or the chance we missed at the ironworks)

I can tell you weren't very happy with your players
>“Did I move the cart?” you FOOLISHLY ask.

I've got to admit though, at one point I seriously wondered if the whole thread was a test, with the winning solution being to come to the conclusion that Enlia isn't good at this mentoring thing and may be a dead end for our protagonist. Especially with her "you suck at everything except will power... so you can be whatever you want!" speech. That seemed like a giant red flag. Kinda like telling someone "If you really believe in yourself, you can be a fish, no matter your lack of gills!".
But I guess I was wrong about that and I'm glad that's the case.

In a sense though, if Nora had to fail at any point, then this, early in her training was one of the best possible times. And as I mentioned, it gives the player a message: no handholding.

Alright then, onward to thread 4, hopefully it'll go much better.

Here's a full sidestory about him (It's all canon):

“Johnny’s guilt.” A From Pleb to Hero Quest Sidestory:

“C’mon Reda! Let me talk with Mayor Talfolk!”

“Sorry, Mr. Johnny. But the captain’s decision is final. I can’t waste the mayor’s time with you.”

That was the final decision; I got fired for ‘not filling the logbook’. But they didn’t understand! I wasn’t the one to blame! It was Steve!

“C’mon, I know you’re the one responsible for the records today! But just don’t fill anything! Okay? Do me a favor! We’re pals, right?” That bastard said.

“But if they find out, I’m going to get my ass fired…” I replied.

“Dude, this chick, Gretchen, promised a date with me if I helped her leave town unnoticed… We already kiss, dude! You know what the next step is!”

“But why not write the records anyway? Just tell how she looks and I’ll—“

“She doesn’t want to be blackmailed by any of the guards. Come on dude, I would do it for you. Just for 24 hours!”

“Alright, I’ll do it, but you owe me a beer.”

“That’s my bro!”

Motherfucker was no bro! He left me hanging! He didn’t look in my face when I got fired. Wait… Gretchen… that’s the name of the girl on Silver Grin’s wagon. Her friend was the one who asked for the records! THEY SET ME UP?! BUT WHY?! AARRGH! DAMN YOU STEVE! DAMN YOU GRETCHEN! AND DAMN THAT GIRL WHO ASKED FOR THE RECORDS, what’s her name?! I remember now, DAMN YOU NO—!

“Hey, Jeffrey I paid you one Silver piece by the hour to work, not to stare at the boat; now keep cleaning it!”

“It’s Jonny, sir…”

“Whatever Jeffrey, and remember to refer to me as Mr. Helmaer from now on.”

“Roger that, Mr. Helmaer.”

“That’s more likely, but I’ll still have to take that Silver Piece for this hour, we had a deal and that was no slacking.”

“Understood, sir… One question Mr. Helmaer, why do I have to clean the boat while you're sailing it? The waves keep crashing on me...”

"Because I do what I please with my boat, kid."

A wave crashed on me again, my hands slipped and I lost the rag he gave me to clean...

"Oh no... I'll have to deduct that from your pay, Jeffrey."

AAAH! ONE DAY! ONE DAY! I’LL GET MY REVENGE! STEVE! GRETCHEN! NORA! YOU’LL SEE! EVERYONE WILL SEE.

End of Sidestory.

The whole idea with the challenge was about Enlia spying on you to see if the way you dealt with the trial in “wise way”. She would only chastise you if you won money the old way (working for it). Also if you went back home and asked for your parents for money I would have facepalmed and let you pass the challenge. I don’t want to indulge in the other scenarios, but the idea was for Nora to trick people (Very antihero-like, but that was the challenge).

The first interaction with Zaina was a clusterfuck and it’s my entire fault. But the idea was that the first prompt was a fake one, she basically broke the fourth wall because it wasn’t ME, the narrator/author/whaveter, asking YOU, the player, “What do you do?”. It was Zaina the one who asked you that, thus creating the fakes prompts. Problem was I divided the posts with the fake prompt at the end, thus creating the confusion. If you put together both posts it makes sense (I think).

If you have questions about Zaina, I'll answer them as the quest goes by.

Enlia was(is) supposed to be a mess in everything she does (because she’s depressed) sans being a master. But you’re somewhat right in your assumption about her possibly being a bad master, it was something I wanted you guys to think but my plan was if you ever doubt her, she would shut you down quickly and show you she means business. In fact her speech “you can become whatever” was more like “I can turn you into whatever you want despite you sucking at it, because I’m that good” to herself.

Wait wait wait.
Gretchen was Subject 182 and we Subject 184
Where's Subject 183?
What could it mean?

So you were sorta baiting us into failure with all the prompts going "find a way to gain some money."
Tricky. We better keep that in mind for the future.

>it wasn’t ME, the narrator/author/whaveter, asking YOU, the player, “What do you do?”. It was Zaina the one who asked you that

Ah, I hadn't quite understood that until now. To make it clear immediately, you should have made the fake prompts without greentext.

Wow. So not only is Enlia new at this master thing, she's also exceedingly overconfident.

I gotta say, in light of these posts

it seems kind of strange that you feel this was

(Or was that a typo and you meant "wasn't"?)

*wait though, I realize now the prompts say "gain money" not "earn money" so I guess it's possible any apparent trickstery was due to just a misunderstanding.

I will never trick you guys to fail. That's not fun at all.

Yeah, the whole Zaina thing was my bad. And I apologize to everyone who got confused. If I ever try to pull that trick again I won't use green text.

It was smoothest to me because I didn't delay the thread or left early.

Well it was a test of wisdom. You could argue that resisting the bait was part of the test. I wouldn't have held that against you.

I've got to say though, if Enlia wanted us to trick people out of their money for a test (not in the course of an actual noble quest), then I'm actually glad Nora failed.
Even if one was to say that the end does sometimes justify the means, I wouldn't say training is one of those times.
I mean, I don't agree with the anon who said we had to stay humble and not exploit our reputation to get a discount (as that was not damaging anyone) but there are lines I'd rather not have our MC needlessly cross.

Yeah I'm with you on that. I'm fine with falling into the anti hero role due to complicated ethical situations but becoming a con artist for training seems a little inappropriate
