Welcome to Spirit Detective Quest! This quest, as the title suggests, takes place in the world of Yu Yu Hakusho, though it does not take place during the events of the show. You're a young highschooler, one who will find himself granted the title of Spirit Detective, and will be charged with tracking down demons and other supernatural criminals.

>Rules

Each time I make an update, there will be a ten minute window in which you can vote between various options I have provided. Write-ins are accepted and encouraged, but I do reserve the right to veto them. Once ten minutes have passed, the option (or suitable combination) with the most support will win.

You can choose multiple options, but be mindful of when that doesn't take any sense. Saying you want to go talk to someone and then talk to someone else in one post doesn't make much sense.

Also, in combat, I may veto selecting multiple options depending on how feasible that seems.

As far as combat, you will roll to attempt different options. I will not tell you what the number needed is ahead of time, so use your heads and balance risk/reward. Sometimes, you should take riskier options if they can yield greater payoff. Other times, it's best to play it safe. Use your judgement.

This is not Dragonball, and while there are sometimes ways to bring back the dead, they are few and far between, so do not assume that anybody you kill/let die will be coming back.

I hope you all have fun.

First time live in one of your quest since I ragequited at the end of the avatar one.

"I'm not going anywhere with you!" you declare, turning and rushing away from the demon at full speed.

You hear her chuckle darkly from behind you. "Oh, if you won't give in willingly, I'll have to take you by force!"

Fishing into your pocket, you pull out your communication mirror, opening it and being greeted by the sight of a very concerned Aria.

"Aria!" you shout, preparing to explain everything to her.

"I know," she interrupts before you get the chance. "I'm on my way!"

Good, then all you have to do is keep running from this demon, and pray that your legs don't give out on you before Aria can arrive, and that Silisha doesn't catch up with you.

Though, a quick glance over your shoulder tells you that you probably won't be that lucky. The demon is rushing toward you at incredible speed, and if you had to guess, you'd say it will be only a matter of seconds before she is upon you. It seems that you have precious few options. Your Spirit Gun's been used up, you're wounded from the previous battle, and that bitch can move faster than you from the look of things.

"You can't get away from me!" Silisha declares, getting closer and closer.

If she's faster than us, continuing to run isn't going to do much, if we stop and hit her, then we slow her down, and take off again
>>

Dam Will has some really strong legs...

Also do you anon's think we should keep running or hide and lay a trap for her? The second one is just in case we are found out or we fail in hiding
>>
>>1264332
If we get close to her she will use her alluring to get us we can't get near her. That's way i considered laying a trap for her.
>>
>>1264336
The bad thing is we are bleeding right now, so that basically gives her an easier time to find us if we try to hide, which is also a good thing since it can be played as a advantage for us as well.
>>

Didn't we successfully roll against it like 3 times in a row last thread?

That is way laying a trap would be ideal at the moment. If we hit her with our spirit gun we may at least delay her a bit. The question is how well of a trap we can do... I don't evne know what we could come up at this moment to distract her and then shoot her.
>>
>>1264363

You aren't going to be able to outrun her, that much is obvious. So, the best way you can think of to stall for time is to make an attack.

Seeing no other way, you stop and turn, throwing yourself toward the charging demon, and punching with all of your might. satisfaction wells up in you as you see her eyes go wide just before your fist connects, stopping her charge and throwing her upper body back.

As you finally come to a halt, the demon begins to right herself. You don't want to give her the chance, so you throw a kick at her midsection. Unfortunately, this time you lack the element of surprise, and she leaps back away from you, doing a flip through their air and landing a short distance away.

She eyes you for a moment, a smirk coming to her lips as she licks away the small bit of blood you managed to draw. The implication is clear; you caused her momentary pain, but no actual damage. If anything, she seems amused by your attack. Not good.

"Hmm, you naughty boy, hitting a woman," she teases, swaying her hips as she begins to step toward you. "I really should teach you a lesson."

She snaps her whip at the ground by her side, jutting out one hip and smiling at you.

"Really, it's a shame it has to be this way," she laments. "You would have made a wonderful toy."

Fighting clearly won't save you, so it's time to give running another try.

Spinning back around, you take off as fast as your legs will carry you, rushing away from the woman with all of your energy.

"Tease," you hear her mutter behind you before giving chase.

Despite your best efforts, the damned demon woman quickly gains on you, and before long, she's within proper range to use her whip against you. She makes a strike, but you quickly leap out of the way, causing her to only hit the grass and dirt as you continue to run.

Glancing over, you find the woman running right beside you, and she brings her whip up with her left arm moving it out in front of her and making a backhanded swipe toward your midsection.

Instinctively, you stop and throw yourself back onto the ground, wincing in pain as you fall prone. The woman stops, turning toward you and giving the whip another swing, but you manage to roll back just in time, winding up in a crouch.

Silisha smirks down at you, both of you knowing that it won't be long before you slip up, or just can't move fast enough. And, you can't fight the sneaking suspicion that she's been toying with you.

"Not bad for a human," she remarks with a predatory expression on her face. "Really, you seem to know how to show a girl a good time. Too bad you're so stupid."

She cracks her whip to the ground by her side once again.

"Oh, but you look so tired," she remarks, feigning concern. "Wouldn't it be better to just lie back and let me take care of you?"

Yeah, she's definitely confident that this situation is under her control. Dammit, where the Hell is Aria?

There's one small chance for defeating her, but you won't be able to pull it off if she knows what you're planning. This time around, deception is your friend.

Pulling your hands toward your chest, you lower your head in feigned submission, hoping that making yourself look like even less of a threat will make her more inclined to take her time.

"Why did you come after me?" you ask her.

"I didn't come after you, per se," the woman tells you, laughter in her voice. "I came to make sure our long-fingered friend over there didn't spill the beans. I knew he'd fail, but he still performed just well enough to satisfy me."

As she keeps talking, you reach into your pocket, retrieving the Concentration Ring and slipping it on your finger unnoticed. If you can somehow scrape together the energy for one last Spirit Gun, it might be just enough to kill her.

"He took enough out of you for me to come in and finish the job," she explains, smirking. "Now, are you ready to be a good boy and come with me?"

"Wait, you aren't going to kill me?" you ask, focusing your Spirit Energy into your right finger.

Yes! You have just enough energy for a Spirit Gun. But, if what Aria told you about the concentration ring is true, this is going to take every bit of Spirit Energy you have left. And given your current physical state, you're probably going to pass out the second you fire the damn gun.

If you miss this shot, it's over.

"Hmm, not yet," she purrs. "You're a lot more valuable alive. Otherwise, you'd already be sliced to ribbons."

"Hey!" a voice shouts from somewhere behind you.

You can't exactly turn around and see who it was, but you recognize the voice as Aria's. Took her long enough.

He could do a Custom Setting Quest, like everytime a character dies, they wake up the next day with a power reflecting how they died

Of course it rewards death, but you'd then roll to fight back PTSD of manifesting your deaths to fight evil, which would lead to some delightful suffering

Not only could it get absurd and wild but since death has no consequence, he can indulge his sadism as much as he wants
>>

>>
>>1265017
You know there can also be slight variances in power among D- or Mid D, right?
>>
Well she could have gotten Damon, we end up firing, she notices and jumps out of the way then Damon basically bounces the attack back, it hits her but with reduced power and now we have to play as Damon and get Aria and Will out of there.

Now's your chance!

Forming a gun with your right hand, you point at the demon woman, shouting at the top of your lungs as you unleash your Spirit Energy in one massive blast.

"SPIRIT GUN!"

But, the woman is already in motion, and your aim's a bit shoddy. Your blast misses by a mile, flying off into the distance as you feel your energy leave your body. You slump forward, and everything goes dark.

When your vision finally returns, you're lying in your bedroom, your left side incredibly sore.

As you turn your head, you see Damon sitting in your desk chair, while Aria is leaning against a wall, snoring away.

Damon looks ready to pass-out himself, but he raises his head when he sees you stir.

"Hey, man, glad you're alright," he says tiredly.

"I'm guessing that I have you to thank for the save," you tell Damon.

He smiles tiredly. "Well, I helped, but it was mostly Aria."

Yawning and stretching, he gets out of the chair. "She came and told me you were in trouble, and we went to find you. We showed up right when you missed that shot with your Spirit Gun. That demon girl went after Aria, but I used my shield to protect her."

He frowns. "Then the demon.....it was like I couldn't clear my head. I was standing there like a moron, lowered my shield..."

He glances toward your assistant. "Then Aria shot her in the back of the head with a Spirit Gun."

You stop at the door to your bedroom, a thought coming to you as you glance back at your drowsy friend.

"Wait, Damon, what kind of things?" you ask.

"Hmm?" he asks in turn, barely opening his eyes.

"What kinds of things did you see with the spyglass?" you ask.

"Damon, don't use that on my mother again, or bad things will happen to you," you tell your friend, stepping back into the room.

Damon's eyes open just a little bit more. "Come on, man, I had to convince them somehow."

Without another word to Damon, you gently pick up Aria, lying her down in your bed and bringing the blanket to cover her. When that's done, you step out of your room, making your way downstairs toward the kitchen.

As you step in the room, however, you find your mother sitting at the table, frantically munching down a bag of chips. You sigh. Your mother does this sometimes when she worries. Stress eating. She'll stuff her face, then deal with horrible stomach pains later tonight.

Stepping into the kitchen, you circle the table and walk up behind your mom, giving her a hug.

She looks over at you, relief on her face. "Will..."

While she's distracted, you reach down and grab the chips, taking them from her. "Too much salt's bad for you."

As you take the snack food to the cabinet to put it away, you hear what sounds like crying. Turning toward your mother, you see that she's struggling to keep it together, as if a million different emotions are all struggling to burst from her.

"You guys have always taken care of me," you tell your mom. "But you can't do everything. I'm grown up now, I can protect myself."

"Will, you're seventeen," your mom tells you. "You're not even close to being grown up."

Before you can protest, she elaborates. "Will, you're growing into a great young man, and your father and I are both proud of you, but you're still a kid. You have a lot more you still have to learn."

She gets up, pushing in her chair. "Though, as far as dealing with monsters, you've learned a lot more than me."

Now your mom's trying to be humorous, but you can still see that she's trying to hide a great deal of worry. But, at least she isn't crying anymore.

You hear the sound of the front door opening, and someone carrying paper bags.

"Oh," your mom says, looking toward the sound. "I forgot to mention that your father's making dinner tonight."

Dad doesn't do that very often. Since he's working most days, cooking usually falls to mom. And when he does cook, it's usually something pretty simple. Your guess is that he's going to make burgers and fries, and honestly, that sounds great. Something about homemade burgers is just the best, and since it's only an occasional thing, it's a lot more special.

Your dad steps into the kitchen, eyes widening just a bit when he sees that you're up. He smiles as he sets the bags down.

"Good, you're awake," he says to you. "I was worried you were going to miss dinner."

"I want to say that I'm sorry for not believing you," he tells you. "But, I'm not really sure if that's right. I mean, you can't really blame me for not believing in monsters."

He sighs. "But, still, I'm sorry I didn't trust you enough. If that hurt you, I'm sorry for that, too. I don't pretend to know exactly what's happening with you, but I do know you're doing a brave thing and helping a lot of people, and I want you to know that I'm very proud of you for that."

He turns back toward the groceries, starting to get everything ready. "If there's anything else you need to tell us, I'm all ears, and I'll do my best to be less skeptical."

Your mom smiles toward him before looking back at you. "I almost don't want to know, Will. But, if you ever need to talk, I'm here for you. I love you, and I'm proud of you, too."

After an unknown period of time passes, you find yourself in a familiar looking office, faced with a well-dressed toddler sitting behind a desk, and with your assistant standing to his right.

"William, thanks for dropping in," Koenma tells you as he folds his hands in his lap. "I understand you had a rough day."

"As chatty as always," Koenma remarks. "Anyway, Aria asked me for information on the demons you fought today."

"Do you have any information?" you ask curiously.

"As a matter of fact, I do," Koenma tells you, motioning toward Aria, who sets a folder down on the desk in front of him. "This situation's worse than I'd first assumed."

He opens the folder, taking a look through its contents before the sound of his television screen lowering fills the room. Turning around, you find yourself staring at images of the two demons you've fought, each of them with the letter D beside their faces.

"The man who confronted you in town was named Daiosho, and as you know, his associate's name is Silisha," he tells you. "They are part of a gang known as "The Five"".

"What do these people do?" you inquire. "Does it have something to do with Silisha trying to abduct me?"

"That's a good question," Koenma tells you. "Unfortunately, we don't know why Silisha attempted to capture you, especially when Daiosho attempted to kill you. As for what they do, there's a laundry list of crimes they've committed. Theft, kidnapping, murder, just to name a few. Occasionally, they've been employed by human criminals for various jobs, but they've been under the radar for years. Spirit World Intelligence was honestly beginning to assume that they'd angered some other demons and gotten themselves killed."

"Wait, demons work for humans?" you ask.

Koenma nods. "Wealthy human criminals, businessmen, and politicians employ demons as bodyguards, enforcers, hit-men, bounty hunters, and so on. With their strength and powers, they make valuable employees."

Well, that does kind of make sense, you suppose.

"Okay, so what about the other three members?" you ask. "Any information would help. Maybe we can figure out what they're doing."

Another image fills the screen. It's some apelike creature with gray fur, curled horns on its head, and massive fists.

"This is Morunkaru," Koenma tells you. "He's more muscle than brains, and seems to simply delight in crushing smaller and weaker opponents. As far as special skills, the only thing we have in our records is the fact that he likes to curl into a ball and roll around like a boulder, crushing hapless people under his massive body."

Morunkaru's image vanishes, replaced by a thin, bald, blue creature covered in what looks to be scales. It has no ears, black eyes, and is dressed in a white shirt and black shorts. You can see that it also has a tail, and clawed hands.

"This is Linsha," Koenma informs you. "She's one of the more dangerous members of the gang, with a large number of murders to her name, including several agents of Spirit World. You can probably guess that those claws of hers are dangerous, but she's also able to move at great speed, climb walls, extend and retract her tail, and even spit poison."

Yeah, that sounds dangerous.

Her image vanishes, replaced by a mostly human-looking man. His appearance may be mostly humanoid, but he's still rather odd looking. He has green hair, almost like a lion's mane, spikes on the underside of his chin and jaw. His build appears fairly muscular, and his eyes are a bright yellow.

"This is Kainsokan," Koenma tells you. "He's the leader of the five. We don't really know what sort of skills he has, but since he's in charge of those other beasts, we can assume that he's quite dangerous."

"Is there any chance you could send another detective to help me deal with this?" you ask your boss.

Koenma leans back, giving a nod. "Yes, I think this mission might be a bit much for you to tackle alone. I'll check which detectives are unassigned at the moment, and send one your way. They'll find you."

I'd like to reiterate my earlier request for training materials. Do yall seriously not have a single book of techniques or research into how Spirit Energy works and can be trained?

I'd like to put forward an idea towards some kind of spirit enhanced robe or pure energy technique. It'd be good for slowing down fast opponents and possibly bringing in demons alive for whatever reason we might care to do. It'd also be significantly different from what Yusuke and Kuwabara did with their powers.

Not only knew who i was but took me to a trap were Silisha was waiting she might be scanning to se what i was capable and now she knows about Aria and my friend i don't think we can wait for to long withou me, Aria and my friend being caught out of guard. I was to ask does Silisha's alluring skill works on other demons? Maybe Sulon and the oni demon were working for her, which means she and the other five, have acess to itens such as the terrible tongues. They seem to be mostly muscle work demons which, if they are involved in the terrible tongues deal, makes the presence of a wealthy evil human. I'm knew in town and don't know much about criminals maybe the little devil i caught the other time. He was building a gang maybe he can give us such information?

"How long?" you ask. "I'm a bit worried since they seemed to know who I was. One even threatened my mother."

He nods, turning his attention to a massive stack of papers on his desk, and essentially telling you to leave without actually saying it. Saying goodbye, you find yourself transported out of the office, and returning to your dreams.

When you wake up the next morning, you're still pretty sore, but the smell of scrambled eggs and bacon coming from the kitchen distracts you from that.

After getting a shower and enjoying breakfast, you decide to call up your friends, asking them to come over to your place to meet up.

Aria's the first one there, carrying a suitcase as she steps inside, a smile on her face.

"Good morning!" she greets pleasantly, heading over to the couch and taking a seat.

She places the suitcase down on the table in front of the couch before leaning back and looking over at you.

"Just fine," you tell her, going to take a seat beside her on the couch. "So, what did you bring?"

"I'm glad you asked," Aria replies, opening the suitcase.

You see a few empty spots with the same shapes as some of your Detective Items, and what looks like a screen at the top of the opened case. Beyond that, you see some round objects with odd shapes on them, and some kind of whistle.

"The items I already gave ye came from here," Aria explains. "The screen there will let a person contact Lord Koenma."

"What about the whistle?" you ask her.

"It's called the Mystic Whistle," Aria tells you. "It emits a signal only demons and apparitions can hear. The stronger yer Spirit Energy, the louder the noise, and the stronger the demon, the louder the noise is for them."

You aren't sure about what situations that would come in handy for.

"What about those round things?" you ask.

"These are called Meijuru Seals," Aria explains. "They're a variation of the seals used to track inmates in Spirit World prison. The only person who can remove it is the person who put it on. It changes color based on the condition of that person. Fer example, the color blue means all is well, while yellow means the person has a minor injury. Red means a serious injury, and if it falls off, it means the person who put it on's dead."

Aria shakes her head. "It's not dangerous. The sound's just really annoying. Anyway, that's all seven of the Detective Items fer ye to use."

Aria sighs, shifting her position on the couch and placing one hand on your shoulder, the other on your arm.

Her hands get a faint glow, and you feel a warmth spread through you, the pain in your arm and shoulder slowly fading away. Aria has a look of great concentration on her face, and she doesn't say anything for the next couple of minutes, before she moves her hands away and moves back to her previous position on the couch.

The pain in your arm and shoulder has vanished completely.

"That reminds me, have you heard anything new about the case?" you ask, looking over at her.

"Only that Lord Koenma apparently got a detective and sent them this way," your assistant answers. "And before ye ask, no, he didn't tell me who it was."

There's a knock on the door.

"Will, can you get that?" your mom calls from the kitchen.

Getting up, you walk to the door, opening it to reveal Damon, who says hello as he steps inside and makes his way over to the couch, taking a seat beside Aria.

"So, why'd you call us over?" he asks.

"Aria, Damon, will you two be staying for lunch?" your mom asks, peaking into the room. "We're grilling hot dogs."

You can hear Damon's stomach rumble. "Yes please."

"Thank you, Mrs. Haywood," Aria tells her pleasantly.

Your mom smiles at your friends. "Of course. Oh, Will, remember that it's your turn to do laundry this week."

"Alright," you tell your mom before looking back toward Damon. "So, I got some new toys, check this out."

You pick up the whistle and bring it to your lips, blowing into it as hard as you can. Damon looks at you in confusion, while Aria covers her ears, glaring at you.

"Really?" she growls. "Why are you being such a child today?"

"So, what was that?" Damon asks you.

Before you can answer, there's another knock on the door.

Rising from the couch, you walk over and answer it, finding yourself greeted by someone who looks vaguely familiar.

She looks to be a year or two older than you, with dark blue eyes, short, dirty blonde hair, an athletic build, a black, long-sleeved shirt with matching pants, and a serious expression on her face.

"You're William Haywood, right?" she asks.

"Who's this?" Damon asks, eyeing the newcomer warily as he rises from the couch.

"I'm Stephanie," the girl says, glancing toward your friend. "A mutual friend sent me to come help William with a problem."

"Hmm?" the girl looks at you for a moment before her eyes go wide with recognition. "Oh, yeah! You're that guy I was supposed to save that rescued himself."

You nod.

You sit at your kitchen table, Damon to on side, Aria to your other. Your mother sits across from you, your dad sits beside her, and Stephanie sits beside Aria. Lunch is tasty, and all of your guests seem well satisfied, though your parents don't seem entirely sure what to make of the latest addition.

"So....you hunt these, uh, monsters like my son?" your dad asks, seeming to struggle with making the question not sound ridiculous.

Stephanie nods, swallowing a mouthful of hotdog. "Yeah, though I'm usually assigned to another area. Koenma sent me here because this seems like a tough case."

You can practically feel your mom's heart-rate picking up.

"Tough in what way?" your dad asks.

"There's just more demons than normal, so an extra pair of hands seems useful," you tell your dad.

You want to leave it at that, but you just can't bring yourself to deceive your parents. So, you tell them the entire truth.

"And, the targets are really dangerous this time around," you admit.

"I'm sure we can handle it," Stephanie tells you. "Four demons, two detectives. That sounds simple enough to me."

"And you've got me helping, too," Damon chimes in.

Stephanie gives him a look of surprise. "You?"

"Damon's helped Will out with cases already," Aria explains. "He might be useful to have around."

Stephanie considers this for a moment, then nods in assent.

"Honestly, I also hope to learn a bit from working with another detective," you tell your parents.

Your mother seems to be restraining herself from having a panic-attack, and your father has a serious, contemplative expression on his face.

"Mom," you say, turning your attention to your other parent. "I promise that I'll make it home safe."

You see tears come to her eyes, but she does her best to put on a brave face, nodding toward you and managing a smile. "Go kick some demon ass."

Your dad rises from the table, placing a hand on your mom's shoulder. "Come on, dear, we should let them get ready."

A lot of deaths and other crimes to their names, not to mention the fact that they've worked for some pretty serious criminals. You beat one of them, but the other four are still around. Koenma gave me the rundown on their powers, except for their leader."

"Spirit World doesn't have any sufficient records of his strength," Aria explains to her.

Stephanie nods. "Yeah. That worries me a bit, but as far as the others I think we'll be fine."

"Where's your assistant?" you ask her.

"Spirit World," she answers. "He's standing by in records in case we need any information. I figured with yours here, there wasn't any real need for two. Besides, I hear yours isn't afraid to fight."

Aria chuckles. "Oh, I get plenty afraid, but I figure if I'm goin' down I might as well be swingin', y' know?"

Activating your Demon Compass, you find that it's pointing in the same direction as last night, meaning that Silisha has probably kept to the same location, perhaps the gang's hideout.

"Looks like it's your turn to lead the way," Damon remarks with a smirk.

And so it is. You lead your team through the town, and soon to the outside of it. You find yourself being directed toward the forest, and the signal guides you through the trees.

Aria keeps a nervous eye out, while Stephanie seems to be ever poised to strike against any enemies that rear their heads. Damon, for his part, seems rather unconcerned with potential ambushes. In fact, he hasn't said a word the entire trip, silently moving the way the needle of your compass points.

Strange guy.

It's not too long before you come across a burnt down structure of some kind sitting in the middle of the forest. Perhaps someone's home at one point.

The problem is that taking a break to train is trusting our enemies not to ambush and pick us off.
>>
>>1272315
As long as we don't manage to get a Pyrrhic victory i will be fine with some hard on battle.

>>1272376
About the ambush we can just stick together. But leaving then to lick their wounds might give then a chance to replace the partner they had lost.

I only sugested the training because we aren't running against the clock and we know were Silisha, and most likely the rest of her group, is.
She also know about our limits and skills and most likely told her colleges about us, Aria and Damon. We can strike now, and hope the new detective will be enough of a trump card to undertake any demons or we can give new skills to our group, like, teach Aria how to coat a knife with her spirit energy and make her and Damon train one against each other to increase their skills.
