In the grim darkness of the 41st millennium there is only war. Imperium of Man, once strong and proud, now is slowly crumbling, whole regions of space are lost to the horrors that lurk in the darkness of the void. Sector Deus is just one of the thousands of Imperial provinces that form the front line in the war to defend Humanity itself. Corruption from within and aggression from without threaten it. But the Emperor sends us hope. High Lords of Terra commissioned a Chapter of Adeptus Astartes, finest warriors Humanity has ever seen, to defend this region of space. They are the last line of defence that hold Age of Ruin at bay. They are the Ghosts of Retribution and this is their tale.

+About+
Chapter Quest is set in Warhammer 40k universe where players control a nameless Chapter Master, leader of the Ghosts of Retribution Chapter - an autonomous brotherhood of genetically engineered warriors tasked with protection of mankind.

This quest is a mixture of traditional role playing, resource management and grand strategy. Main narrative is driven by the players rather than QM and doesn't have a pre-set "main storyline". Original purpose of the game was to push the story of 40k past year 999.M41.

How to play? Post your suggestions in the thread, if enough people approve them or no one opposes them, they will be implemented. For discussions, join our chat (link below).

Time to meet the sphess pope and convince him that working with ursus was all an elaborate ruse to get proof of his heresy. We don't like him but we'd never suspect his loyalty to the imperium. Now with the HLoT sorta backing us, will he join forces with us?

speaking of that, we should totaly tell the HLoT that we fixed some of our geneseed flaws before they find out from tithes. We dont want to look like we were hiding it.

REpost from last thread

btw, can we continue investigating the triachy wracks, difference to IoM technology, take a few naval uniforms, get a reading of how many ships and what class exactly were there, check cargo and logs to understand the nature of their mission.

Furthermore I would like some insight into their religion, if possible and any evidence for triachy involvement in kruun would be excellent, too.
Sword squad alpha should still be there and our head-techie is there for that, too

Our fortress-monastery is already set up on Mormark. We also own the planet of Varda.

Are you referring to Astrobelus Kest, Cardinal Magnus Sectorum of Sector Deus? He offered you an alliance once in the past... I think it really depends on how you approach him and what you offer.
>>1264053
Your word is my command. While Klementhos might be somewhat conflicted about this, he will follow your orders and he is interested himself as well on some deep level. What kind of experiments do you want to try?

Welcome to CMQ, Firechicken. People will fill you in soon, but you do have a pretty cool HQ. Would you like to establish a base of operations on your colony world of Varda as well..?

Sorry guys, IRL interference, this will be a slow thread.

I feel like that'd end either really well or just slightly poorly

Also when are we going to colonize more worlds or invest in Cards again?

I kept forgetting his name, and sphess pope is fun to imagine. We really need his backing and his loyal. I will leave it to someone better at roleplaying conversation to do the actual approach

ah so I can set up my OWN HQ? dang this is neat yeah sure ill set that up, whats our man count like? can I get a squad or are we limited in our use of supplies

We should pick up where we left of over Karn Dereg.

We took shadow guard, pax sepulchrum, reo hestrom, xyptus, geron and 3 revenants, and 7th company.

Hestrom and Xyptus should follow up on the leads we got that led us here. Do some investigating.

Geron and the revenants should shadow them and keep them safe.

I assume the space battle aftermath can be concluded later.

Both Reo and Xyptus are pleased with this approach:
>We will learn a lot more on our own.
Within a few hours their shuttle discretely lands in one of the seldom used export-import starports on the outskirts of the capital city. Morhankar is a 2nd stage Theta class hive city, it houses almost two of the 5 billion of planet's residents. Xyptus follows his lead deep into the hive, where he meets with some shady looking ex-Arbiters in a seedy bar close to the entrance to the underhive.

[Roll Xyptus' Inquiry, you can get +20 if you offer 1W of bribes or auto-success if you offer 3W]

Meanwhile Geron and his Revenants take positions inside and around the bar. They are on the look out, roll d100 for Geron's Awareness.

Ex-Arbiters are very pleased with your decision. The middle one seems like whatever passes among them for boss, he's missing an eye and his hand is ceaselessly carresing his impressive looking boltpistol:

>That's very generous of you, Publius. Well, I guess I've got to live up to my part of the deal. So here's the situation. There's a Death Cult that we've got operating on the east side of Morhankar. One of many, but this one's really nasty. Semi-legal, female-only membership, well-financed, the bitches call themselves Cult of Mourning. Around two-three thousand members, a couple hundred of them are really good, even by Karnish standards. Mourners have a nasty habit of cutting up their victims into chunks, stuffing them into pressurised containers and then unloading the gore among masses of pilgrims. Allegedly showing people how close death is to them, helps the pilgrims to keep their piety. But not their breakfast, I guess. Anyway, so this cult was pretty active recently, but as they targeted only sanctioned targets, nobody really took any actions against them. But then about half a year ago, they ceased all operations and retreated into their temples. The rumour is, someone hired them. ALL OF THEM.

Ex-Arbiter shakes his head, sips some amasec, then continues:

>This is unprecedented. Very rarely whole cults get mobilised and even then, it's usually the government or some big bag Inquisitor. Me and my mates here are in business of trading information, so we thought this could prove valuable to someone... We started digging, found something and it turns out we were right.

He taps on the big metal suitcase lying on the table with bribe money in it. He then hands over a small and cheap datapad over to Xyptus, or as he is known to these men - Publius.

>This is what you are looking for, my friend. This recording is less than two weeks old and I guarantee you that he's still alive. They've had him for more than half a year now, essentially the whole cult is used to cover his movements and protect him. We managed to catch him on tape as they were moving him from the asylum to one of their temples, but it was a close call, Mourners are very vigilant. His name is Tyrel Hagen, I wasn't able to get too much info on him, but it seems that he's important, has connections in the Navy and one of my friends in Ecclesiarchy mentioned him in connection with the bloody Astartes themselves. Though tough luck getting him out of their hands... Anyway, it seems that some trouble is brewing, I think we should conclude our business here.

>>1264505
>>1264504
Geron and his men notice a few seriously augmented gangsters approaching the pub. It seems that they are packing some heavy firepower, one of them even has a hand-held rocket launcher. It seems that whispers about the big pay day your ex-Arbiter contacts got have already reached wrong ears...
>>
>>1264638
Have Hestrom and Xyptus exit through a back exit. If the gangers look like they'll cause Xyptus or Hestrom any trouble, kill 'em.

Personally I think Chapter Master should personally meet with this Cult and see if we can subtly mention how we need to talk to Hagen and we're his friend.

Thoughts?
>>
>>1264663
No. They're not sanctioned by any authority we know, and they've moved against an imperial Admiral. Eliminate, but keep the leadership alive for interrogation.
>>
>>1264673
The info said they're protecting him.

Hagen could well have been the one to hire them.

Your men managed to get away from the bar safely, but only seconds later a loud bang shattered windows in the surrounding buildings - it seems gansters launched a rocket into the bar. They kicked in the broken door and and started shooting into the dust, hoping to kill any remaining survivors. Suddenly, out of nowhere, a blurred shape the size of a grown boar charged into the bar and jumped onto one of the gangsters. His head disappeared in an explosion of gore as the mechanical jaws of a modified cyberdog closed on his cranium. Ex-Arbiters emerged from the dust, their visors down, guns blazing. Within a minute half a dozen gangsters lay dead in front of them and others were running away, while not a single loss was taken by your contacts. Their leader spat on one of the corpses:
>That'll teach you, creep.

Geron was smiling under his helmet - he was happy that he didn't need to intervene and it was great to see that gangsters had their backsides handed to them. Then he noticed the intense stare that the cyberdog was giving him and his Revenants...

So is it safe to assume the Cult of Mourning is around 2-3k supporting cultists with the ~200 of them being fully fledged death cult assassins with power weapons?

I think posing as a potential client to get an audience with them might be a good idea, then we can infer we know Hagen and if they're protecting him we can let them ask him about us, so they know we're his friend.

Conversely if they ARE holding him against his will, we could try and intimidate them into giving him up? The arbites didn't know who he was, maybe the cult doesn't know they've kidnapped the Lord Admiral of the Sector either? And I'm sure the last thing they want is conflict with space marines, since we're well within our rights to wholesale slaughter them for taking Hagen. The only people who would protest our actions would be whoever ordered his assassination/kidnapping in the first place.
