The blast sends the gate of the Royal Palace of Dominas flying backwards. In the skies above elvish griffon riders engage two dragons, demons fly onto the walls and towers where they engage the longobwmen of Anglanorse, aided by dwarvish warriors in heavy armor and elvish priests. The Palace's courtyard is filled with smoke as handgonners open fire, crossbowmen loose bolts and mages launch their spells at the approaching enemies.
For the second time this year, the Dark Dragon Anavark leads an assault on the Holy City, Dominas, capital of our allies - Paitras. This war has been fought for over three years now and has claimed hundreds of thousands, if not millions of lives. Here, today, it will be settled.
The defenders had taken notes from the previous time the Rhoznaxi attacked - arraying our forces far better, with cover protecting us and traps laid for the enemy. The first waves in are black orcs of the Badlands - slaughtered by volleys of concentrated magic, blackpowder and arrows. Again and again they try to assail the courtyard, to no avail - as the bodies begin piling up so high they impede the enemies behind them, the order is given for the elites to take the fore. As fallen orcs are raised to fight again as undead, demons of Flamkor advance, clashing with the lines of pikemen ready for them.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CB3H05OhVDI

Among the first Roggarians to fall is Febarow, his halberd having missed the plate-armored lizardman who dashed ahead far too quickly and impaled the centaur through the heart with a spear.
"Hold the line, men!" The King of Paitras, Nerudius Ezgielan, yells as he joins the fray alongside his Guard.

Paitran and Ezirni troops aim to take out elites among the enemy's ranks - quite a few dark elves fall to them
>>1260602
Levos is strengthened by magic - the recent reactivation of the elvish Pillar of Heaven has helped our priests much. He dodges one demon's strike while taking down another, blocking the first one's attack and reposting, a thrust to the neck as a killing blow.

The plate-armored lizardman is surrounded by many foes - Vrita's guards, Nomin's knights,
Gerard and a Guard, Temil. He mutters some words and a thick shadowy cloud appears, disorienting his opponents and masking his movements - having no trouble to see and move in this condition, Ulanxir dashes from one enemy to another, his lance hitting unprotected neck, leg and armpit areas. While all these warriors focus on the humanoid-form Dragon, the orcs begin swarming over the defensive lines of the courtyard.

The first defensive line held well, we made the enemy pay dearly for it, but we must fall back in an organized fashion now!

The Roggarians and Paitrans are gathered around the Sword of Juras - Anavark himself leads the attack against them, clad in his black plate armour, shadowy magical barriers and large red sword. Alongside him are two Dark Champions - Phoinix Damos, once the Dragoncommander of Roggar and Karfog Skullsplitter, the slayer of General Vance. Phoinix has a shield and sword, while Karfog has his large axe. In the shadows, going in and out of combat, is also Ran-bo, the traitor Commando, his dagger claiming one kill after another.
Behind them is a seemingly endless stream of orcs - black, brown, undead - supported from a range by dark elves.
The lines clash. Anavark and his Champions reap a field of death. Giamel and Mainolf stand against Karfog and Phoinix - they fight with great fury and skill, but these two, greatest of the Dark Champions, are beyond their capabilities. Karfog's axe splits the dwarf's skull after several dark elf arrows had already stuck into him. Mainolf and Phoinix exchange blow for blow, seemingly equal in fighting prowess, but the orc ends the duel with an axe strike in the back of the Baron's head.

Ran-bo finds himself within inches of Lingnu, his dagger ready to cut his former lord's throat, but he's tackled down by Barnabas, who pushes Lingnu back to safety. Ran-bo gets up with a jump, parries one of Barnabas' strikes, dodges another and then plunges his dagger in his opponent's eye.

Meanwhile, Anavark and the Mighty are shaking the very ground with the clash of their swords - the Barbarian King is slowly being pushed back, however. A demon is just about to bring his mace down on the Mighty from the side, but the King of Ezirin is saved by an old friend - the minotaur general, Buflam Domwurd. The two team up against Anavark and for a moment it seems like the tide is turned. Elsewhere things are looking worse for us - the Marshal orders another retreat - this time to the northern Gardens, the Throne Room is being overrun. As our men continue their organized retreat, Basil and Buflam are left among a sea of foes - one tries to attack the minotaur from behind, but is friend turns around in time and returns the favour from earlier - back to back, they try to fight their way out, but the enemies are too many. Looking around himself, the old minotaur grunts, shoves the Mighty away, towards friendly soldiers and jumps into the enemy ranks alone. One after another he takes down orcs and demons, dark elves and undead, but they are too many - his fur is burned by fire blasts, arrows are sticking out over his body and yet he still fights, giving it his all. An invisible hand lifts him up into the air as Anavark slowly walks towards him, choking him with his magic - the minotaur's poleaxe is on the ground and he's running out of air and yet still he tries to extend his arms forward, trying to grab...the...Dragon...and...punch.....
The heavy body falls to the ground, lifeless.

Barnabas opens his eye. Here he stands on the edge between realms, and he realizes he has fallen to Anavark's blade.

"No..." Slowly, Barnabas realizes that he can still hear the song of battle for the pillar, and realizes he's not fully dead yet. And so, he make his plea.

"Mor! Juras! Please, send me back! My work is not yet done, and my friends are dying in droves. Please, I beg you, give me this one last kindness and let me fight beside them before you take me into your embrace once more."

In this dark plane, Barnabas bends the knee, and starts to pray.

Baric and the Knights of Mor move forward to intercept the Dragon God. They land many hits on him, one even breaking through his magical barrier and hitting his plate armor, pushing him back a few inches.
"I've no time for games anymore!"
The Dark Champions move in as well - Karfog Skullsplter takes down Ernam, once a simple herbalist; Phoinix Damos kills Spogir, who was a mason. Anavark overwhelms Urvog's wards - he was never too good at them, he only learned to read when he was reborn as a Knight of Mor.
It was just Baric and Anavark. Sword met sword, ward stopped magic, cuts glanced off armor.
>>1261842
While Baric was fighting Anavark, Levos had spotted Ulanxir - determined, he advanced on him and gave his best, strained his mind and body to its fullest, but he could not match his foe's speed and power - the lance swept his feet from underneath him and then stabbed him in the groin, leaving him to writhe in excruciating pain, unable to move. Ulanxir then moved to support his father, getting on Baric's side and doing what he does best - his lance punched through a weaker point of the demon knight's armor at the back of his knee joint, bringing him to the ground. As Anavark raised his sword to impale him and end the life of the last Knight of Mor, Baric remembered, for the first time in centuries, the pretty young lass he once knew and loved, the one whose death left him heartbroken and led him to leave his home and to seek a new one among the dark walls of a town in Eastern Roggar.

A hand taps Lingnu's shoulder. She turns around, her face frigthened. A few words are exchanged, she nods and hands over the Sword of Juras to the tall, lithe man.

The Mighty has finished taking off his armor. He won't be needing it where he's headed. The sword, however, he keeps with himself, for it means too much to him.
"Given its magical properties it'll probably help, actually" Archmage Anodis tells him as he guides him to a circle of runes in front of the Pillar of Heaven.
On the other side of the Pillar, King Terruil Velaris looks at his right hand, holding the blade that his grandfather had forged - the Sword of Juras. The ring on his hand was now glowing, the magical gemstone eminating a great force. He nodded to the Mighty and stepped into the opposing circle of runes.
The incantations of the Paitran and Elvish mages increased, with the Archmage joining in.
The ceilings shook. A crash was heard, cracks began to form on the walls at first, after which a large object broke through - the two Sentinel Primes, locked in a hand-to-hand fight with each other, had fallen onto the tower, breaking away a part of it. Stones started falling all around.

The tower starts collapsing on top of you - the stones crush many, including Lontus, Levos, Humbus, Phoinix Damos, Karfog Skullsplitter and many others. The rest managed to get close enough to the Pillar that they were protected, though - with no structure above it, the Pillar now looks like a beam going straight up, into the afternoon sky, piercing the clouds. From it a barrier extends, protecting those close to it from the falling boulders.
Nothing remains where the runic circles were, except what looks like a few particles of shining dust. The Pillar's light surges to strengths none of you have ever seen before, almost blinding in fact.
Other beams of light pierce the dark clouds - they part and give way to a light - to many on the ground it looks like a Gate to some other world. From it descend winged beings, armed and armored, led by one great figure, its size close to fourty meters in height - its form is like a human, its face shrouded, its hand wielding a blade that looks like a far bigger and greater version of The Sword of Juras.
Anavark and Ulanxir had gotten out of the tower in time and are now in their draconic forms. The massive winged swordsman clashes with the Great Dark Dragon - the sword in his right hand eminating a dazzling right, while in his left hand now blazing a sword of fire - one sword cuts and another stabs. Ulanxir tries to come to the aid of his father, but he is assailed by griffon riders and dozens of the smaller winged beings. The fight rages in the skies above us as we can do little but watch.

Anavark tries to fight back - to blink-teleport himself away, to create dark illusions, to breath great streams of fire, he tries summoning lightning from the clouds, to summon gusts of wind, to launch chunks of rock from the ground at the Archangel, but to no avail - it's like he knows everything the dragon can throw at him and is able to avoid it in time, to catch up to him and land another hit - and another one, another one, another one - the flaming sword is stuck in the dragon's body, who teleports himself some distance away and removes it, but the angel merely summons another one. Explosions and roars ripple across the sky as Anavark is being given a just-deserved punishment for all he's done, until at last the Angel himself blinks right infront of the Dragon and thrusts the Sword of Light deep into the Dark One's heart. The massive, over 50 meters long body of Anavark falls on one of the towers on the eastern edge of Dominas.
Ulanxir manages to escape death just barely, the last remaining dark dragon is taken down by the smaller angels. Anavark's army on the ground is confused, uncertain of what is going on right now.

After all, angels were things of myths and legends. As an enormous figure emerged from the clouds, Levos thought not of his enemy Ulanxir, but of his father.

A memory flashed in front of him. A cloudy overset day in autumn, but his father had promised to take him fishing, and so he did. They hadn't caught much that day, but they did it together.

The sun has just set on the 8th of Kovinar, 725. Anavark has fallen, but his army is still in the city. The angels have just finished off the third Dark Dragon, leaving the enemy with no presence in the skies. What should we do? Our own lines of communication are disrupted, we're not quite sure how many troops we have and what condition they're in - the city is in terrible shape.

Unfortunately, nothing is over. The son of Anavark still draws breath and can probably draw upon significant numbers of troops and dark magic. And while they're weakened so are we.

We have a decision to make.
If we seek final victory it must be by the death of Ulanxir. No other solution will suffice if we wish to avoid yet another war in the future.
Our other option is to seek an end to the current war, given the current situation I doubt our enemy would be hesitant to accept negotiation.

If we seek negotiations I would recommend the following demands:
The withdrawal of troops from Drezvak.
Liberation of Ezirin, either as a free principality or under our wise guidance.
In addition, the oasis and the valley south of bloodmist pass can no longer be under the control of the Rhoznaxi, they are ideal staging points for further aggression upon our lands.
>>1262833
He saved my life, I shall never be able to repay that debt to your family.

>>1263572
Without their leaders and dragons they should be much demoralized and confused. I recommend we seize the advantage and give them no time to organize.
We either drive them out by force or summon their current leaders for demanding their withdrawal. Either way it is pivotal that we give them no time to seize the initiative.
>>
>>1263572
Focus on getting our communications back together. Then we'll see if the Anavarki army is going to try and retreat.
>>
>>1263572
Contact the angels should be our first priority. Perhaps amplify our voices to reach their height. That way we can prioritize targets such as Ulanxir. Also try to reestablish our own lines of communication, and send a few men to see what shape the enemy forces are in.
>>
>>1263572
Hmmm, we should step into contact with the Archangels and try to get as many soldiers united as possible and strike at the enemy now that they lost their magic support
>>
>>1263572

An agreement was reached. General Zhaling stays with us as a hostage, the enemy returns prisoners and trophies and withdraws to their old borders, keeping some neutral ground between us. Peace talks will likely be around early spring.

In the morning the enemy army begins packing their things and withdrawing. The fires around the city are being put out, the wounded are being treated - some of the Angels themselves have come down to provide healing aid. The Archangel seems to be guarding the corpse of Anavark. Reports say that looters who tried approaching it during the night died a gruesome death, their corpses disfigured by what may be some poison eminating from the dragon's corpse.
There's many things to do - orders to give our armies, preparations for the peace talks. The agnels are still here at the moment, so we may be able to talk to them - the Archangel has not spoken to anyone, the lesser angels have said very little, only to the wounded, apparently.

Zhongi forces in the west have withdrawn to the pre-war border. The lands they'd occupied did not suffer under them, damage to the region is fairly minimal other than in the small no-man's zone battlefields that were established.

It's the 1st of Divana, 726. Word reaches us that the Caliph and the Zhongi Empress are willing to meet us in peace negotiations, either in person or through envoys some time in the next two months.

On the 7th of Abadid the Lursarek Peace Summit begins. Leaders from the Holy Pantheonic Empire, the Dominion and Gajaxlan meet those of the Zhongi Empire and the Rhoznaxi Caliphate.
Caliph Alzum Zabriz is-Zmeak and Empress Jilian Kai, a half-dark elf, half-human, are the leaders of the other side.
At present they occupy all of continental Setyrias south of Lursar.

The proposed terms are accepted.
One question remains to be settled now. The HPE rules Ezirin, the land most hard hit by the war, holding the two passes and all lands north of them. The land is devastated, its population now numbering around 600 000 minotaurs, 300 000 humans, 70 000 ogres, 20 000 ogre-human halfbreeds, 80 000 orc-ogre halfbreeds, 300 000 orcs, 1,5 million orc-human halfbreeds, 60 000 centaurs, 400 000 lizardmen and small pockets of other races. The Rhoznaxi were exploiting the occupied lands to the maximum, conscripting, enslaving and looting to support their war effort, repressing the locals harshly for any dissent. It's estimated that before the war of 681, Ezirin's population was around eight million.
What should be done with it? (Posting old map, because the new one is unfinished)

Finally returning to Trusted Defense after many months at the frontline, Trusted Councilor Lingnu formally offers her resignation to the united council of Councilors & Advisors, taking personal responsibility for the many mistakes made by her and those appointed by her.
However, most of the council hold little desire to accept her resignation without debate. Many of the deeply conservative demand blood for making a pact with demons, many of the liberals want somebody to punish for bringing them into such a destructive war and many in the middle hold the view that Lingnu is a hero that did everything right.

1 No resignation accepted, give her another medal instead!

>7 Disgraced and denounced.
For gross incompetence, warmongering, unsurping the leadership of the Knights of Juras, losing the Sword of Juras and very bad judgement, Lingnu is denounced by the united council.
Furthermore, as her robes of office are forcibly torn away, it is discovered that she is a woman! While long rumored, most refused to believe such slander before seeing the evidence with their own eyes.
A shocking insult to the noble traditions of the order of Councilors as women are not allowed entry by ancient law. Denounced and shamed in public, Lingnu runs crying from the chambers.

Having seen to the former leader, the council quickly get down to electing a new, more worthy leader::

1. Some saint who honestly believes in virtue and morality, hates violence
2. A dick, morals are for the weak & peasants
3. More forward thinking, reformist
4. Strict and conservative
5. Former soldier who joined the Councilors, as much a soldier as a scholar
6. Corrupt weakling, only there due to nepotism
7. Cabbage salesman, how did that happen?
8. Radical reformist
9. “The way of the sages is a philosophy of peace. Death to all who say otherwise!”
10 Councilor Vanders. A pacifist that preaches love, tolerance and poverty relief
11 Councilor Baraka. A man of southern ancestry and a gifted speaker
12 Councilor Chong. The wonderchild, barely ten year old and already a prodigy in all the academic fields.
13 Another from the line of Commodus
14 Councilor Zhang. Rumored sorceror and holding unhealthy ambitions of power.
15 Councilor Drunf. A former merchant and the richest man in Freehold. Beloved by the people for his no-nonsense talk and charisma.
16 Councilor Fish …... “bloop”.....

Councilor Baraka is elected by clear majority, and with a minimum of fraud no less.

A tall man with dark skin that are rarely seen within the borders of Roggar, (rumored to be the result of his mother being less than virtuous while travelling in faraway lands).
Popular with the people, long time critic of the war and a promoter of reform. The conservative Councilors are already sweating fiercely.

We've begun the process of rebuilding - it will be going on passively in the background.
The economy is on the brink of collapse, many regions rely on imports from elsewhere, there are shortages of manpower in some places, displaced refugees, disabled veterans, outbreaks of diseases, banditry and urban crime. Furthermore, a large percentage of Roggar's knights, the middlemen in the sphere of land ownership, died during the war and there is some administrative chaos with those who left no heirs - or too many heirs - all having perished at the same time.

We've advanced our navigational capabilities, now utilising the compass, the astrolabe and portolan charts for navigation. Rudimentary compasses have been known to us before, but have now become more widespread. A zhongi captain forgot one of his belongings while staying in Thornebush - an elaborate inclinometer, historically used by astronomers and navigators, to measure the inclined position in the sky of a celestial body, day or night - the astrolabe. We're able to safely traverse the Godsjaw without fear of losing ships now, while travel to more distant seas will soon be a possibility.

It's the year 730 - faction and council projects are now every 10 years, so you can do your faction project for the years 720-730 and council project for 730-740 now.
Bear in mind that the last decade was not exactly a time of peace and prosperity, so ambitious projects will be nerfed in accordance to how much your faction suffered, which I'll decide myself.

Signing off now, I hope to be back tomorrow.

A dozen dwarves on Eigersil were studying material magic, in particular the fabled Philosopher's Stone - a tool by which transmutation could break the limits of elements. A transmutation practicioner can reshape lead, for instance, but he can not turn it into gold. Both before, during and after the war the twelve scientists worked hard and in secret until in late 729 some incident occured - their workshop in Eigersil was burned down, all their research documents destroyed, their bodies found mutilated in various places on the island - some in their individual homes, some on the beach, some in the Bloodsteel Mines. A completely thorough search revealed nothing of who did this or why and it will remain a mystery.
After the war ended we had to hire a lot of new people in local administrations as many had gone to fight and never come back. Both among new and old hires incidents of embezzlement, corruption and misuse of their official power has been high and has showed no sign of reducing even now across Roggar.
>>1265142
You can now fully work medium magic metals to their greatest potential, obtaining level 6 golemancy and through it also enchantment. Your golemancers gained a lot of experience in both theory and practice in working with their Ondalian and Kragnan colleagues. Both Primes have been fully repaired an optimized, facilities for golem production have been improved and several books have been co-published by goblin, halfling, dwarven and gnomish authors working together in the Imperial Capital on building and controlling golems, in particular for the purposes of war.
>>1265150
You've rebuilt the city to its former glory and your lands have been gradually recovering.
The charities you organized have seen limited use, but a lot of them are either being poorly managed or used as embezzlement scams and such.
>>1265154
You've laid the groundworks of a subculture within your lands that has its own, separate identity in accordance with your vision.
You make some progress on the naval schematics.
>>1265168
Recovery in the Rekazir region is slow, but it's happening.
You've prepared documents and such for the visit to Selaven, though the seas are still harsh.
>>1265242
You dig
>>1265294
You set up mechanical workshops and obtain books and specialists on the matter.
You had few funds to work with and most of those got stolen or wasted, with almost nothing of use being created.
>>1265669
About half the ogres are interested in moving to your lands.
>>1265687
The Kingsguard's recruiting initiative is filling up the ranks again, though it's costing quite a few Crownmarks.
>>1267111
Your work on both fronts is going well.
>>1267148
You order the craftsmen district in Constantinople to set up facilities for the production and development of gunpowder weaponry - by 730 you have your own Gunworks, though they can't match those of Altodominio in size and the competence of the working personnel, it's a start.
>>
>>1267174
The investigation turned up nothing more than a few people drowning or dissapearing. You didn't have the time or resources to rebuild the island or castle with the ongoing war and the hardships after it, even after you dedicated a sizable amount of funds to it, a lot having gone to waste.
You begin working on promoting shipbuilding and trading guilds, alocating Crown funds to the support of private institutions. It seems to have some effect, though the amount of money being spent seems a bit too much after you look at it more thoroughly.
>>1267273
The shrine was indeed built and the work began.
>>1267275
Ezdari priests tamed two pairs of lions by 730 and brought them to your lands. Attended to by a knowledgable proffesional, they are no danger to innocents.
You work on rebuilding the agricultural sector of the economy well enough.
>>1268213
Your private project is progressing
You fund the expansion of the Royal Spy Network. So far it hasn't turned out a lot of foreign agents, though.
>>1268266
>>1268302
The castle is improved with financial support from the Duke.
>>1268329
You begin spreading the Citadelian culture.
>>1268357
You start working on improving the state military's organization, progress is steady.
>>
>>1265371
In addition to all other troubles we're facing, it seems a plague has started spreading, its origin believed to be Zhorang.
The Orange Death is what they're calling it - the skin of those who get sick becomes unnaturally orange, as do their bodily fluids, their bile in particular increasing drastically in production. After the first recorded case it spread in Southwestern Roggar within a few months and then, by ship, to other ports in Roggar. The lands south of the Miva river are the most hard hit, but it's shown up in Dragonstomb and other ports on the northern coast. The disease affects all races as far as we've seen and it's deadly.

A more detailed clarification:

Currently, massive amounts of lower and mid-level bureaucrats are engaging in corrupt activities. The offices of most Council members have suffered as a result of it. Councilor Baraka has had some success so far, but his resources are limited. The government is spending massive amounts of money on a lot of projects, money which the government doesn't have, so it has loaned from rich feudals and merchants, but now the value of the Roggarian Mark itself is unstable.

HOW EXACTLY
Will you deal with corruption?
>>
>>1268708
We shall bring in Paitran and Angalnorse Priests of Juras to perform a large scale audit of the kingdoms spending to cut down on corruption with help from them having a outside view and no connection to Roggar.

>>1268728
>>1268727
Also seize holdings and imprison all caught.
>>
>>1268728
>>1268727
this would be for the best, yes. Councilor Baraka should play a role as well.

>>1268708
>>1268712
These new administrators haven't been performing their duties. We should start by having the worst offneders tried for their crimes and punished appropriately that should send a message for the rest to shape up. Investigations, scandals and trials are still ongoing. We're not sure how deep these scams run - there is some progress, but it's taking time as even some investigators were found to be conspiring with the corrupt. Among those appointed by the Emperor to combat the corruption, Trusted Councilor Baraka and Lord Arathas Menthel are the two most notable successful prosecutors.

Amid ongoing investigations and scandals of corruption within the Kingdom's administration, major financial issues, civil unrest and tension between nobles, a plague that is still being cured, an economy and people still recovering from the war and an uncertain future, our King and Emperor, Fuck-Mighty Swift-Hands has passed away shortly after his 57th birthday, on the 29th of Moris, 733, though in his last days he looked ancient, the burdens of the crown having weighed heavily upon his troubled brow.

A Contest must be held for the next Dragonking of Roggar now!
You know the rules
If you wish to put forth a character from your faction as candidate, you must describe him with at least the following:
>Name
>Age
>Race/Origin/Culture
>Abilities/Experience/Things you've accomplished
>What you promise to do if chosen as King

You will also roll a d100 for your performance at the Contest, during which your character performs physical, mental and oratory tasks to impress the commoners watching.
Performance at the Contest is not the only factor, though - the endorsement of members of the House of Lords(that's you, the leaders of the factions) are also important.
To endorse a candidate reply to their candidacy post, maybe say a few words and roll.
If you have not put forth a candidate, you roll a d15
If you were a candidate, but you choose to withdraw from the race to support someone, roll a d10
If you supported someone and want to change your endorsement, roll a d5

The contest will begin on the 1st of Abadid, 734.
The last rule - Endorsements may begin five minutes after the first candidate has posted

The feast was going quite well. The Queen wears a mask on her face - those few who've seen what's underneath it understand. She defers to the chamberlains and maids and stewards for the menial duties in greeting guests and focuses her own efforts on organising things, which she handles perfectly.
The feast goes well, with almost no disturbances until, about an hour and a half into it, strange men start roaming the dining hall and the premises and the Spymaster is seen giving orders to them. Despite this, the feast continues as normal, the spies find nothing.
About four hours in, when it was already nighttime, the Queen withdrew briefly to her quarters. Maids were seen running and screaming, away from that part of the Palace. An assassin tried to kill the Queen, they say. A few minutes later reports say the Queen was seen chasing some man through the palace corridorrs, then they start saying she apprehended the assassin herself, with her bare hands.

The Spymaster brings the man to the Dining Hall and has him tied up, his back to a column. His face is bloody, at least one of his teeth is missing and he looks to be in pain, semi-consciouss.
The Queen arives a few moments later, nodding to the Spymaster.
The Ranger Grandmaster announces that this is the man who was caught trying to kill Her Majesty, Bryguarda Stormbeast. He begins asking him questions - his name, why he attacked her and who he works for.
The man identifies himself as Korzik Bridzhin, he is a human of Ezirin. He admits to his loyalty to the Black Legion - the organisation which was led by The Man in Black, the Lich Locktus. His eyes then enlargen, he begins to spasm and shake, drool and then die before any physician managed to get to him. Upon inspection, it seems he died of poison - one of his teeth is recently broken.

There maybe opportunity here to boost Greatfield's influence if nothing else.

~From the Desk of the Lectre Family~

Sincere apologies for the lateness of this letter, but things have been very busy as of recent times, as I am sure you can imagine. My name is Alan Lectre, the latest leader to bear the blood of this great family, and I am the one in charge of all businesses under our name since the death of 'Uncle' Lectre.

As per law, please find the following to describe the primary focus of our efforts during the last decade:

-Acquisition of struggling and failing businesses, particularly those affected during the war years.

-Management of workers within said businesses, providing suitable jobs to war orphans and ex-army men, as well as the usual Lectre motive of assisting the homeless.

-Investigation into the status of pre-existing Lectre businesses and the impact of the Roggar-Rhoznax war on them.

I await the final documentation regarding the results of these efforts and will be sending a copy to the crown to add to the family asset listing in the coming days. If results are poor, various employees will have to be exchanged, so please do not be alarmed to find major changes in our internal structure.

In addition, I would like to petition the crown to grant myself and my family the lands formally designated as "Rograr", so that we might restore them to a productive state. It would be appreciated to receive a response at your earliest convenience.

Best regards,
Alan Lectre.

"Well, I guess it's time to organize a party then."
"M'lord, isn't that inappropriate? Shouldn't we be focusing on more important matters?"
"On the contrary, we need this party. With all this talk of plague, corruption, and war this nation has suffered, I'm not surprised Nayte's seems more dour than ever. A little relaxation and some festivities would do wonders for the small folk."
And thus Mill organized a grand, Duchy spanning party for Nayte, which lasted a couple of weeks.

>>1268982
Meanwhile in the center of Hell's Crusade...
"People of Nayte! Lend me your ears! We live in troubled times. Plague blights the land, accusation of corruption at the highest levels of the kingdom, and Roggar spends Marks it doesn't have. All while we are still healing from a war that has ravaged our nation. It sickens me, to see Roggar so downtrodden, so rotten at it's core. This is not the will of the Gods, but of greedy administrators and rotten nobles. This abuse of the has gone on far enough. I promise to put Nayte on it's feet again. This is why I resigned from being Royal Admiral before the Emperor met his end. This is why I haven't tried to become Dragonking, or will accept any position under a government so rotten from corruption. I promise you, People of Nayte, that I will not rest until you are back on your feet again. There will be trials ahead of us, and the future may not look bright, but there is still light to guide us. There are dark times ahead, but together, Nayte can do anything. We've fought off demonic invasions from Hell together! We killed off the dragons and titan's together! Every challenge Nayte has faced was beaten though our blood, our sweat, our tears. We will survive these troubled times, we will beat back the darkness that surrounds this nation, and we will thrive in the glorious light. It is the will of the Gods and it is the will of Nayte!"
A day later, a small host of knights and men-at-arms that hadn't fought on the Erizin front of the Great War sallies forth, intending on bringing to justice the bandits that raid Nayte and to bring back law and order into the duchy.

~From the Desk of the Dragon Guard~

Apologies for the lateness of this letter, but times have been troubling, as you can imagine. My name is Mill, the current Duke of Nayte and all that it inhabits.

I write this letter to inform you that the land of Rograr are currently lorded over by Lord Arathas Menthel, a renown war hero and a very successful prosecutor against the corruption that plagues the administration of the Kingdom of Roggar. Lord Menthel was given the lands of Rograr to develop by the Duchy of Nayte for his glorious service and loyalty to Nayte and Roggar. As such, those lands cannot be given to you or your family. You may consider this your response.

Best regards,
Duke Mill of the Dragon Guard.

Having accomplished that, I would then focus my efforts on improving the lot of our common downtrodden masses and curb the accumulation of wealth by a small aristocratic and oligarchic elite. At last outdated customs like forcing women to wear veils (sadly common in my home region of Roggar), inequality of inheritance and religious intolerance should be adressed, discussed and done away with.

While I do not appreciate what I perceive to be sarcasm in your written tone, as I am yet to meet you face to face, I will assume that you mean me no ill will and that it is an error on my part, for the time being.

In regards to the lands of Rograr, I am yet to see any meaningful development since the unfortunate incident in which your Lord Arathas, shall we say, 'took care' of those who lived in the town at the time. I would appreciate a status update on what your intentions with the lands are, as it is currently both an eyesore and a wasted space - but one with potential. If there are no current plans, then I would very much like to discuss this matter further with you at a later date.

Best regards,
Alan Lectre

The Imperial Throne is vacant - a new Emperor of the Holy Pantheonic Empire must be Chosen!
The Priests have spoken and it's been determined that a Game of Kings, also known as Chess, shall be played to determine who will sit on the Imperial Throne!

We have six competitors:
>Brynguarda Stormbeast, 30, of Roggar
>Nerudius Ezgielan, 36, of Paitras
>Ralita Ondalan, 39, of Ondalia
>Mollin Kragnan, 43, of Kragnaal
>Darna Haraldson, 28, of Anglanorse
>Sarhun Lursarin, 56, of Lursar

For the first time three of the six contestants are women!

Each of them has played the Game of Kings at least once, some more than others. Their individual intelligence and martial skills will be most important, but to a lesser degree also their diplomatic and empathy.

A player will control each of those. Simply do rolls, maybe fluff it up a bit - we dont have time to actually have players play Online Chess, unfortunately.

The first match, set for the 1st of Stomnis, is between Brynguarda and Darna - Roggar against Anglanorse, queen against queen!

113vs100 for Darna so far

However, it seems Darna had laid a trap, thinking almost a dozen moves ahead as she takes out Bryngarda's Queen and remaining knight at the cost of a single pawn! They then proceed to exchange another pawn, now Darna takes one of Bryngarda's bishops. The Norse queen has the edge now! Everyone is on the edge of their seats to see what'll happen next!

Cheers are heard throughout the Audience Chamberl, refurbished into a tournament chamber, as Darna decisively outmaneuvers Bryngarda within three turns of the stalemate, ending with checkmate - Queen takes King! A roar of applause, the two queens courtsey to each other and hug - Darna gives a kiss on the cheek of Bryngarda's mask and smiles warmly.

We move to the Dining Hall for lunch and after a short rest return to the tournament chamber in the afternoon. Now, the two opponents shall be Ralita Ondalan and Sarhun Lursarin, halfling queen against centaur king - the two fought together on the Western front during the last war, Ralita's golems and Sarhun's steppelords holding back the Zhongi hosts.

The chess board is rearanged, the figures having been changed to reflect the kingdoms "fighting". The noble spectators take their seats, the game begins!

An honourable defeat, everyone is content with the match.

The two sides' strategies grind to a halt as they are evenly matched, or so it seems - Mollin's larger force present on the board allows him to push further now!

Fluff:
Pikeholder Trench-digger is the current Count of Booty-Bay and commander of the Warloggers, a large goblin sellsword and paramilitary company that provides a fighting force during war and a service industry during peace. Goblins may not be strongest or have the fanciest gear, but the Warloggers augment naturally high Goblin numbers with a defensive and siege style of warfare designed to maximize large goblin hordes.

The hand weapons of choice are spears combined with crossbows, shields, and axes, to keep foes at bay while lobbing hundreds of projectiles at them. They are especially good at securing a place for defense, and gained prominence during the Great War by protecting vital towns and supply lines against raiders and foraging attemps, often guarding the flanks and rears of armies. They made especially note in the great siege of Ezirin, where their skill in siege warfare came to play.

Using many goblins to chop large swathes of trees, they cut these to form stakes and trench emplacements, war wagons, and setting up roads and bridges for supply lines and creating siege lines covered by ranged fire; locking an area down with an array of defenses. If ever they are set to siege a castle, they like to build siege towers and battering rams and catapaults.

When not at war they ply their logging expertise to building new settlements, wagons for trade, constructing walls for towns and houses, and establishing new settlements. Soldiers are encouraged to bring their familiies to camp and spawn new goblins for the ever growing horde, and by this time many of these soldiers have been raised in the company since childhood.

With the dawning of a new age, the Warloggers want to expand their reach even more. They have already desired to invest in new ships and aquire maps and routes to new lands to dig their iron toed heels in and harvest wood and resources for a new age of Goblin Expansion.

Important announcement:

“Not long ago, a concerned citizen came forward, requesting the cooperation of the Tower of Law. He whispered of the most devious acts being committed by our some of our most respected countrymen. Rumors of human trafficking, missing traders, back alley deals, potential zhongian black trade and maybe even ties to the Black Legion.
He then provided me with documents, supposed “evidence” of the city of Milln being a hub of trade in human flesh. He suggested a massive purge of the city and that his master and myself should then split the loot evenly for “safety reasons”.

Luckily, I was not the dumb oaf he expected me to be and had the papers carefully scrutinized by my legal experts.
Not only did they uncover that the documents were forgeries, they even found out that our respected Royal Steward, Alan Lectre himself, was the man behind the plot.

Crimes of such a nature cannot go unpunished, not in these times.
However, I have held council with the Dragonqueen and have agreed to spare Alan's life for his past services to the crown.
Instead he will receive the following chastisement:
10 years house arrest for Alan Lectre.
20% of all Lectre profits forcibly donated to charity (decided upon by the Tower of Law, not by Lectre himself naturally).

All hail her majesty Bryganda Stormbeast.”

I pride myself on being a certain kind of man, and I do not appreciate these slanderous statements laid against me by not only the master of law, but supposedly the crown itself. Yes, I freely admit that I supplied false evidence regarding certain individuals within the city of Milln, but for a purpose. I am a man of business, and I sensed an opportunity to be won. But I refuse to stand idly by as my name is dragged through the mud.

I did not attempt to blackmail House Erden, as some might claim. I did not once even consider sending word to any representatives of such, as my desire was not the exploitation of said family, for we have blood ties many generations ago, and I have the utmost respect for men and women who come by their coin through sheer dedication as they have.

I did not suggest in any sense a "massive purge" - I utilised the term purge to try and entice the tower of law into taking action against the aforementioned individuals, a small number of traders, in terms of legitimate legal punishment rather than death.

Never once did I speak of 'splitting the loot', I encouraged the hiring of replacements to fill the gaps created in the event these plans went ahead. I merely suggested the placement of independent traders cared for by Lectre men, but what your darling councillor neglects to tell you is that I openly stated my desire for ANY person to take the places of the old, with a particular focus given to Roggar's NSA for the security of our kingdom.

I do not have any sort of master, I was contacted by a party whom offered me a deal in exchange for my action that I deemed suitable enough to attempt. I followed through in a desire to provide for my people in as troubling times as these, when all in the Roggar are worried about their place in the world, when coin is in as short supply as the smiles of the children we once hoped to raise in a world without war. I would have hoped to have been granted the decency to stand up for myself before punishment was given, but I can see now that the people controlling all of us men who simply want to feed the hungry bellies of our families and loved ones simply could not afford me any less respect than they do already. Thus, rather than freely discuss my crime, I refuse to name my co-conspirator without the opportunity to negotiate the terms of my disgrace.

I submit to house arrest, but taking coin now of all times is a slap in the face to both me and my people, especially under the guise of charity when the Lectre family has worked so hard in years past to provide for the common people. Just know that, if I were to do this all over again, I would choose the exact same route, because I will do whatever I feel I must to provide for the men and women under my care.

It seems we've managed to avoid total collapse for the time being. Emperor Mollin Kragnan has given us an interest-free loan to help us cover expenditure in the short run. The economy is given time to recover and, together with the other Imperial Kingdoms, we're getting back up to speed.

Currently our financial situation is still rather volatile. The few remaining, hardcore Anavarkists, mostly leftover lizardmen, are actively resisting conversion attempts. At first they assaulted preachers (without killing them), then they started causing disorder in streets, disrupting infrastructure and royal and local officials' duties. Though we're talking about no more than a couple thousand people, perhaps, these religious fanatics are a bit troublesome for the development of that region.
There are good news, though - the western seas have calmed down at long last. The bad thing is, with communications reestablished, we've learned that Angel Isle, the penal colony for dark elves and source of House Godric's gems, has been claimed by the seas, along with other islands and coastal territories in Selaven - the Kingdom still holds, though, having survived whatever cataclysmic event transpired. Valyria and Sicilius, the two Whitevayne colonies, are mostly undamaged.
In Hajatas the Kingdom of Kamborash has expanded further.

We invested in improving the general enchantment technology. Now, beyond individual workhops, the working of enchantments that use medium magic metals is available to enchanters across the Kingdom. Enchantments of some level are becoming fairly common among those interested in magic, whether it's a mine overseer who wants access to night vision, a blacksmith working in high-temperature environments or any variety of such occupations - an enchanted item is not cheap, but the burgeoning middle class is now taking more interest in them.
Among the people of the coastal cities rumors spread of some evil sea monsters that have been a danger to sailors in the west.

We've developed our first generation of oceangoing ships - a combination of three trends in shipbuilding, the norse longships, our own holks and the sea elves' merchantmen with their triangular sails. This ship, our first carrack, has three masts, of which one is fitted with triangular(also known as lateen) sails. It carry supplies for a longer voyage and is more secure for venturing into more dangerous waters.
This design can certainly be improved over time, but for now it's a breakthrough as it's the beginning of a new age in the Roggarian navy - it's a dangerous thing to attempt, but this ship can cross the Great Sea, we believe. For certain it can be used for exploring not-so-distant continents and islands that can be reached by our known routes.

Currently we have one of each type of regiment, a total of 8500 troops, in the standing Proffesional Army.
The Imperial Army has by now assembled, with a Legion of 5000 fighting troops from each of the Six Kingdoms, under the Emperor's command.

Post-war soldiers of Roggar have access to a mixture of armor - chainmail, partial plate, brigandine, boiled leather. Knights and more well-off men at arms can afford better armor, suits of plate covering almost all of their body.
Weapons we use are spears, pikes, swords(the biggest of which are longswords and bastard swords), axes, maces, shields - hand-to-hand weaponry in Roggar hasn't evolved much in the last century. Some train to use bows - composite bows or longbows, depending upon prefference and whether they fight mounted or not - but most ranged troops use crossbows, varying from light models that can be reloaded on hand to siege crossbows that require windlasses to pull back the strings. Some ranged soldiers use handguns - rather unreliable in their aim and slow to load, but packing a good punch and being able to scare enemies.
Knights prefer to fight on horse, their mounts often also armored. They use lances to charge the enemy, after which they either maneuver away and do another charge or get into the melee from horseback.
Our siege corps uses ballistae, onagers, trebuchets and light and medium-sized cannons - capable of punching through most stone walls, though not at the level of what the dwarves displayed during the last war.

So, what should we impove?
A.Armor
B.Melee weapons
C.Guns
D.Ranged weapons
E.Siege weapons

We've supported the development of new melee weapons and their introduction into our armies.
One weapon that will be seeing a lot of use with our proffesionals is the halberd - it consists of an axe blade topped with a spike mounted on a long shaft. It always has a hook or thorn on the back side of the axe blade for grappling mounted combatants. It has reach, versatility and good use in formations.
Blunt weapons that can be acquired by a warrior are quite diverse - maces, morningstars, flails, one-handed war hammers and two-handed mauls.
Bladed weapons we use are daggers, battle axes and a wide variety of swords - the old-school short sword, usually used with a large shield;the standart arming sword, one of the most versatile weapons in existence, its length suited to most races and types of soldiers;the longsword, its length ranging from 90 to 120cm, is more often used with both hands, though a larger or more skilled person could use one of these with a single hand easily. The largest swords we generally make are the claymores, used with both hands, their total length is on average around 140cm, a weight of around 2.5kg, these weapons, in the hands of those who know how to wield them, can be very powerful.
Speaking of shields, of them you can find a wide variety - perhaps most common is the kite shield; larger shields are not used by many except the pavises that crossbowmen deploy; gaining popularity among some warriors are smaller shields, like the buckler.

In a land where humans are a minority, during the hardships and terrors of war, a human proved himself strong and capable, unting people of various backgrounds behind him.
Velkin Hammerhelm, son of the late Viktor Shieldbreaker - his father was once a soldier in the armies of the Mighty, one of his finest human warriors and field commanders. As the Rhoznaxi rolled over most of Ezirin, Viktor went into hiding, settling down in a village in eastern Ezirin to avoid the notice of the occupiers, living a simpler life, raising his son and teaching him all he could. When the Great War began, control over Ezirin changed hands many times and at times it was a no-man's land - many went on to join the Mighty's army, but some, like Viktor, stayed and organised their own local resistance, fighting to protect the people from being destroyed. When Anavark's hordes reoccupied Ezirin in the later stages of the war they began ruthlessly exploiting the land for all available resources, conscripting its people to fight the Imperials, killing all who dissented - during a clash with Rhoznaxi forces Viktor Shieldbreaker fell. His son picked up the leadership of this resistance group, allowing them to survive and eventually go west, finding refuge in a half-ruined place known as Redroad Keep. There, other survivors joined them as they managed to hold out until the war's end.
As the victorious Imperials of the north came in with their armies to plant their banners, they found Velkin Hammerhelm to be one of the few leading an organized, armed group of people, a tribe of exiles and survivors The land he'd claimed was reserved for some Roggarian - Mill of the Dragonguard, Duke of Nayte
Velkin Hammerhelm convinced this Duke that he should work with him and so he became Count of Redroad - a rural region with no major settlements, it has a varied terrain and a diverse population, having also welcomed Roggarian humans and goblins in recent years to settle there. Count Hammerhelm rules from Redroad Keep, mostly restored by now, a key junction for travellers going in and out of Western Ezirin.

The desire for peaceful development and the search for enlightenment among more well-off parts of the population, especially in the capital, has reached the point where a private association of clergymen, teachers, proffesionals and various other richer citizens of Dragonstomb have assembled funds for the creation of an institution of higher learning, a university - their plans are for the university to include faculties that specialize in all manners of academic pursuits, be they mundane or magical - at present there are four institutions of higher learning in Roggar - the smaller private academies of The Archive and Trusted Defence and the large Royal Academies, REAGAN and MAGA, in the capital - this organisation of academics is considering the creation of their "University" in Hellsflame.

What stance should we take on this potential private institution, whose academics would answer only to themselves in the sense of what they teach and research?

1.Ownership of elite education institutions
A.Crown only
B.Crown and factions only
C.Allow anyone to develop them
D.Other
2.Freedom of thought
A.Your institution, your rules
B.Limit what they are allowed to teach and research within certain guidelines, which REAGAN and MAGA, under the crown's authority, will set
C.Standartise the curriculum for all institutions to be in line with the royal academies

3.Funding
A.The Crown will cover all the costs of any educational institution
B.Help the best of them with royal stipends up to some amount
C.The Crown pays for the Crown's institutions - if you want to make your own, it's your money

CAC We've adopted a more hands-off approach - anyone with the means can develop an educational institution, they teach whatever they want to teach and they pay for it themselves.
By now, the Crown has paid off its loans to private lenders(rich folks from inside Roggar) and we're now paying back the Emperor's interest-free loan
Year 740 - time for projects!
Faction projects - what has your faction been doing these last 10 years?
Council projects - if you hold a position in the Council - what will your officials be doing in the next 10 years?

Leon has recently dug up some old notes that have an outline for a "fire ward" idea. It would be a spell/spellcrafting thing that would use some form of invention (fire wards) powered by mana or a mana substitute like Zadium. It would allow for heated rooms and could be sold on the market for homes as well as ships. Leon wishes to develop this idea further and see if he could get a working prototype up and running.

Council Project - Guards will now use any unused military equipment from the war to help combat crime waves due to the economic state at the moment. Although I am unsure if he is still in a position to do so, Alan Lectre has asked me to inform the council that his project for the next ten years is to set up a branch of the steward's office that focuses on management of debts to both the crown and individual traders as best as possible, with positions filled partially by Lectre law-years (currently undergoing reorganisation) and former businessmen, as well as those whom the council deem the best suited workers throughout the kingdom.

We expected to only need three weeks to reach Gajaxlan, but the winds and tides were not in our favour. A storm caught us off the Zhongi coast, during which three sailors were lost and the ships took some damage. We managed to reach Gajaxlan on the 17th of Ezdarin.
The Serene Republic's capital is not in good shape. Streets are flooded, houses are damaged, a sizable portion of the docks are ruined and you see boats still busy with removing wreckage. There's no space for our ships on any of the piers, so we leave them in the bay and take boats to the port.
From what you can understand, some sea monsters attacked the city this several days ago - if the sea hadn't slowed us down we could have found ourselves here on that very day.
We won't be able to stay here for long - we're recommended to another nearby island's harbor for ship repairs and resupply. We can afford to spend a few hours here, though.

What'll we do?

We find the embassy after walking through a few streets that were hurt badly by the monster attack. We wade our way through puddles and rubble to find a house that was probably quite good-looking last month, but now has a human and three lizan working to repair it. The human is our resident ambassador, Gerad Barnes. Seeing us, he bids us welcome.
"You've chosen an interesting time to visit Gajaxlan, compatriots - how can I help you?"
"A meeting with the council? Certainly, I'll get in contact right away"
Not wanting to lose any time and having nothing to do in this place, we follow him as he makes his way towards the Palace. There, after a short waiting time, we are allowed to meet the Serene Council, the top ruling officials of Gajaxlan.
"I am Ixavus Nilkimh, the Chancellor of the Serene Council. Welcome to Gajaxlan, friends"
>>

"The war cost us many ships, soldiers and all our continental holdings. Trade routes to the sea elves lost, the Slavers' Union embargoing us and trying to take our holdings in Hajatas and worst of all - Our Lord, Techeneh, fell in 725 along with others of his brood. We'd only just started recovering recently and now this....thing showed up and ravaged our city, before moving on - he's probably doing the same to other islands now." The Chancellor seems disturbed and emotional, he's trying to calm himself down.

We discuss the matter of the great Vast One, sharing the information with them of how a Roggarian expedition unknowingly broke the seal that was keeping it contained after it had caused the cataclysm in the western seas. We promise cooperation on the matter and ask for information on two more matters.
The Ice Dragons, which the Godrics saved centuries ago and raised in secret, have been mostly living in Gajaxlan since then, each having taken a local Water Dragon mate. The twin dragons each have had one Water Dragon Child, Nicholas(the male) had two Ice Dragon daughters, while Demetria(the female) had an Ice Dragon son.
Nicholas fell alongside Techeneh during the war against Rhoznax, leaving four remaining Ice Dragons, under the wings of Demetria. Nicholas and Demetria have been known to spend time in the Godriclands as well, in their sea elf forms, helping the Godric dukes.
The other information we asked for was the political situation in the south.
It appears Rhoznax has managed to recover from the death of their God - his son, Ulanxir, has taken the name Anavark as a title, becoming their new Dark God - though in some places rebellions and resistance movements against him erupted, they were quashed and order has by now been restored in the Caliphate.
The Slavers' Union found itself with no friends when Kamborash began a decisive advance against them - taking advantage, the now renewed Rhoznaxi Caliphate attacked the Union from behind, taking the territory that once made up the Republic of Savrexis.
Our work in the city of Gajaxlan finished, we return to our ships and sail to the smaller island to the northeast, where we spend three days repairing and restocking. It's the 21th of Ezdarin now - where should we sail to?

We have four main options here
Arboria is the most important orcish port city and is a fairly short way from the capital, Kambor. Going there requires passing through Rhoznaxi waters - we are at peace and the truce still holds, but some might not be too enthusiastic about it.
Kirzaxum is a city that was fairly recently conquered from the Slavers Union and is closest to our current positon.
Vozgid
Maktog is the biggest city on the western coast, Vozgid is closer to the capital, but smaller.
We could also go to Savrexis.

We reach Arboria on a misty morning, before dawn, on the 2nd of Stomnis. We had no trouble in the Rhoznaxi waters, our navigators managed to find a route far away from any coast.
The harbor is large, filled with vessels of all sizes - small fishing boats, bigger cargo ships and ships of war - some look to be dromons, an advanced form of galley that we used until a few decades ago, others look like holks - the ships we ourselves used until quite recently.
As we approach, we find that we are being followed by ships that we hadn't noticed in the mist - they keep some distance from us, though. We're allowed to approach the harbor, where we disembark and march ashore, where a welcome party is waiting for us - a hundred humans in Iron Legion uniforms and three hundred orcish warriors, all formed up in ranks. In front of them stand several figures - three orcs and a human.

They take you to the local castle, protected by its own layer of walls that are separate from those of the city. As you're walking through Arboria the mist begins to lift and the sun rises from the east. The city wakes around you as craftsmen set out to work, fishermen head to the docks, the market is being opened.
You enter the castle, its size being something that would be fairy average for a count in the Empire. You're guided to what must be the dining hall - the furnishing is a bit austere, perhaps somewhat crude by our standarts, but it's practical enough. The Chieftain enters the hall shortly afterwards and bids you sit down to have breakfast with him and talk over whatever matters you wish to discuss.

"I haven't heard of troubles from either of these. Arboria is on shallower water, a good amount of traffic from here does not leave this sea. Our only trouble on the seas were the Slavers' warships, who were far more capable of putting up a fight than their armies on land. The Rhoznaxi put an end to that, though. We've had no open clashes with the Anavarkists so far either. As far as titans are concerned, their ogre pets have been pushed back inland, into the deserts, so their influence is limited there."

In fact, if I may be so bold, do you believe your ruler would be interested in such cooperation and friendship with Roggar proper?

Our Kingdom's economy has three main goals - growing our population, our armies and our lands. The region is dotted with villages that produce resources and some towns that refine them - it flows to this city eventually - from here ships can take it out into the seas or up the river, to the capital, or by caravan anywhere in the Kingdom - much of our land is covered in jungles and forests that make it harder to move people and goods, but over the past century the land has changed much as forests have been cleared for fields, pastures, mines and roads. As a younger man I myself was able to journey north, to Setyrias, visiting Zhongian, Akeshisu and Bullcoast in Roggar. "Before we unified as a kingdom, individual chieftains ruled clans, while unions of clans into a tribe would be led by a warchief -- any chieftain could challenge the warchief in combat for the right of ruling, which resulted in few tribes lasting long. The clans themselves were led similarly - when the missionaries of the Pantheon came under the protection of the Iron Legion, we began learning of Juras' teachings. Warchief Graus Kirzar became the King of Kamborash over a century ago - on his deathbed he wished his son to inherit the throne, but he told all the chieftains that if any future King proved himself unworthy, they would have the right to challenge him. The system of balancing power works as follows - if you are in a relation of hierarchy, a feudal contract, with some number of people you can have your son be your heir, but if 3 out of 5 of your subjects agree that you are unworthy as a ruler you can be challenged for your seat. Such is the orcish feudalism - if you are an orc born into power you do not deserve, an orc who is more deserving but was not as lucky as you at birth can challenge you for it, but not without the approval of his fellows. Thus those in power are a balance of strong and capable.
My grandfather was Chieftain of the Korstal clan and ruler of Arboria as well - my father was less deserving, so another one of the clan's warriors challenged him and took power after he got the support of the clan - in turn, I challenged his son, who was a fool and a man who could not resist the worldly pleasures even when duty called. He was strong and defeating him was not easy, but it proved that I am not only better in character, but also in skill."

So, what of the free goblins down to the south? Do they still pose problems? Does the current king treat goblins of Kamborash well?
>>
>>1283984
"Your people have done well in taking control of the harsh environment of Hajatas. Do you know if the routes south into the more barbaric regions are still hostile?"
>>
>>1283993
"We've conquered the goblin river valley in the last few years entirely - any goblins outside Kamborash that are free would likely be living in the mountains or the deserts beyond them. In Kamborash goblins can not rule over orcs, though they can prove themselves worthy enough to be granted power over other goblins, in service to an orc, of course. Pantheonic goblins are usually not slaves, but rather serfs, similar to your own lands. Goblin labour is important to our economy and it allows more orcs to be freed up to be warriors. Our current King, Prokam Kirzar, is more tolerant towards goblins than his father - he has decreed that if a goblin woman gives birth to an orc, that orc shall be a free man or woman and the goblin, if she is a slave, will also be elevated into a serf."
>>1284002
"You will face no dangers along the roads of our Kingdom, but beyond them I can not guarantee your safety. Ogres still dwell in the southern edges of the mountains and the arid and desert lands beyond and those ogres are not the only dangers there - the climate and beasts are also harsh."

You finish your breakfast with the Chieftain, who has a few men on horse ready to escort you for further travels in Kamborash. You gather up your party, taking the fourty extra soldiers you brought on your ships and loading supplies on some carts, two of which were provided by the chieftain. Sooner or later you'll probably come back here to Arboria, since your ships will be staying here.
Around noon you set out - by now the city is bustling with activity, making ships, war machines and weapons to feed the needs of the Legions.
You take the road south, following the river Kambor on a well-laid out, stone road. You pass through farmlands in the Kingdom's heartland - the caital is located on the fork on which the rivers Kamish and Borshuk join into one - Kambor, which gave the name to the city and the Kingdom.
You reach the city on the 6th of Stomnis, before noon - its sprawling size has made it reach out on all sides of the river, its strong walls are in multiple layers and as you enter through the northern gate you see the smoke rising steadily from the workshops of the city's craftsmen - it is busy with activity, You're told that the King is not in the city at present, he is expected to arrive tomorrow or the day after, though - until then, you have free time to do whatever you want, split off or go in groups.

They found nothing of value - Iron Legion repositories of knowledge were locked away for them, while the few orcish writings they could find were just stories of this clan or that clan's past - boasting about this hunting exploit or that victory in war mostly.
>>1284222
You found no place selling proper books, but you did get your hands on a scroll made of some exotic material, its contents being strange symbols and what look like tiny drawings - the merchant said it's something he bought from a fellow who'd survived travelling south of Kamborash - a curiosity, he doesn't know what's written on it either.

You pooled your resources and managed to buy ten young tritsers - large reptiles used both as war mounts and beasts of burden by orcs and lizards on Hajatas. An Ezdari priest is offering his services in your employ to teach you how to properly look after them.
>>1284247
While some folks next to you were buying exotic animals in the market, someone bumped into a man carrying a crate full of poisonous snakes! Let loose, they started slithering in all directions, one of them biting you with its potentially deadly poison!

Some shady dealer sold you a vial of a suspicious liquor.

You bought some Hajatan chili peppers - enough for several banquets - for much cheaper than you would have been able to from the occasional southern merchant visiting Dragonstomb.
>>1284283
You spent your time observing the local merchant practices - the orcs respect strength and establishing the perception of strength, even in a deal, is important to them. You found no revolutionary economical or trade methods being employed here, as these people learned much of what they know from Roggarians - your own economical methodology is more advanced by far. You did establish some contacts with local merchants though.

The Praetorian Captain managed to find an antidote - he'll be in a weakened state for the next 4 days, but he'll survive.
One orc from Virinum went missing, but other than that everyone survived the day spent in Kambor - we found lodging houses where we stayed the night, the more affluent of us staying in a more comfortable, human-owned and built place.
The next day you are informed that the King has arrived and will recieve you in his Great Hall. As you go out into the streets you see that they are even busier than yesterday - thousand of soldiers returning from war, you can see some of them are wounded and some are crippled, but their spirits look high. You make your way to the innermost layer of walls and are allowed into the Hall - King Prokam Kirzar, a man who looks to be in his prime, is still wearing his armor, a few dents and scratches visible, his left hand bandaged.
"Welcome, men of Roggar - I've just returned from a successful campaign in the south against ogres invading our frontier."

We both manufacture guns and gunpowder, tools that should surely be useful to you. Our advancement in research into golems are the envy of the world. And our magi are as skilled as they are inventive and diverse.
And that is merely physical products. Our military philosophy is nothing to sneeze at, as the Iron Legion have hopefully demonstrated. Our centers of learning are many and literati top notch.
Furthermore there's always the classics like cold, hard gold.

For our part we are most interested in the beasts of your land, especially creatures like the tritsers."

The Goblins are not very fond of the events being transcribed before them, particularly about the Orcs ruling over goblins, but they keep their trap shut about it.

Captain Shouty Pointy-Finger is curious about their campaign of expansion into wild frontier particularly with the Caliphate to the north. He sought to learn about Iron Legion logistics and supply lines. How did they transport provisions for their army, communications, road construction. The goblins are very clever about this and subtly praise the Orcs for their conquest while hinting the curiosity of their "impressive" ways.

Entertaining them a bit further, the Goblin wants to learn precisely what they have learned in their generations of war.

Theory is one thing, practice is another. It has been 10 years since the last Roggarian war, but this kingdom practiced hostile expansion on a regular basis.

The Goblin calls to his wagon to open up a keg of fine ale, and talk over some food and drink and share war stories. He wanted to learn how the natives fought, how the caliphate fought, and how Kamborash fought back. About specific battles, lessons learned, as much of their ways of war as could be done. Stuff that couldn't be learned in a dusty old library.
>>
>>1284553
Ahem, i would like to ask you about your inheritance. Do you believe your sons will be worthy heirs? Also i must inquire how is it possible that there are so many Iron legionaries here? The voyage to Hajatas from Roggar is quite dangerous and almost imposibble untill recently. Not to mention that the war and storms that raged all over the seas would have stopped any attempts at any trade in at least a decade. How is it possible then that you have been getting constant support from the Iron Legion?

The Iron Legion is present with its entire standing force. They posess a two-way portal that allows them to transport individual people and small amounts of cargo back and forth from their homeland to here. During your war with Rhoznax the seas were dangerous and the portal was disabled, but after the war ended they were able to restore it - bulk cargo now comes by ship with the calmer seas.
The Iron Legion has been here for many years, not just soldiers but also priests, mages, craftsmen, even entire families of settlers - they have their own district in Kambor, you may have seen it."

On the next day, the main streets of the city are prepared for the parade - the 1st, 2nd, 3rd and 4th Legions, led by the King, march through the streets in formations, banners high, their weapons and armor intentionally still showing signs of recent battle. They display the orgre prisoners of war, among them the self-proclaimed Greatchief, Bomoh the Hammer. First go in the cavalry on their tritsers, giant wolves and some horses. The orcish heavy infantry is the core of their army, supported by some amounts of light infantry - generally the youngest of the bunch - a smaller amount of specialized archers, mostly with longbows. Behind them are the war machines - catapults, ballistae, onagers and trebuchets. Music is performed by drummers, some of whom are positioned on large tritsers and hornblowers. Reaching the Great Hall, the King moves up to a balcony form where he adresses his soldiers and people and congradulates them on yet another glorious victory. Priests of Stoman begin leading the soldiers in singing a great warsong, after which the procession moves on to another part of the city where the fallen soldiers are brought out in caskets, are given their last honors and are entombed in a warrior's graveyard.

You pack your supplies and head south. Your guide is a dark elf from Zhongian called Naorim Pei-shun - he has spent most of the last 60 years of his life here on Hajatas, trying to learn the secrets of what he believes is an ancient civilization beyond the desert, an empire that survived the Storm. He has ventured southward into the desrt, reaching some point before having to turn back - the missing index finger and thumb on his left hand are the result of his last venture.

We set out on the stone road going south, which two days later ends - we see the ongoing construction of the stone-laid road over the old dirt road that we'll be following from there on - on the 17th we reach Frotorm, the largest town on the ogre frontier. Its walls are being repaired by ogre slaves as two legions are posted in this area at present - this was the place where Bomoh the Hammer invaded, an area that belonged to the ogres some years ago.

We take some time to rest and resupply. The locals warn us that the closest pass, straight to the south, leads to an oasis occupied by a large amount of ogres - the lands around it, the last livable place before the desert, are where many of the ogres have retreated to. Going through there may be dangerous.

A.Go through the ogre oasis
B.Go through this southern pass, but avoid the oasis
C.Go east, through the arid lands first(also ogre territory)

The ogres were savage, managed to get in undetected and slaughtered most of our expedition. We lost a sizable chunk of our supplies as we had to abandon the camp as well - the ogres are feasting on the corpses(or even the living) we left behind.

Everything else was taken by those who chose to return.

Those who have decided to press on wake in the morning, the only ones left in the camp after their comrades abandoned them.

>>
>>1285931
>>1285914
Thera separated from the rest of the Divatans - she managed to attract a rabbit-like animal to her and as she was in the process of snapping its neck, she felt a predator's presence - a pair of hyenas jumped her! She managed to get back to camp wounded, missing half the fingers on her right hand and limping with her left foot.
The other Divatans went off somewhere and didn't return
>>1285918
You managed to sate your needs for the day by eating bugs, gathering leaves from some bushes and finding a few drops of water.
>>1285928

>>1285927
The dwarves were the only successful ones, managing to bring back extra water and catching a pair of rabbits, enough to cover part of their daily food needs.
>>1285928
As Nutrius was munching on some roots, he heard his guard yelling at him to run - not daring to even look back, he ran to the sound of his guard yelling, trying to fight something and then screaming in agony.

As the sun is going down you assemble once more at the camp.
You have eleven days' worth of water, close to a day's worth of food and one heavily wounded priestess.

What'll you do in the evening? You're more or less tired from this hard day.
>>

You set up camp in an empty cave. The priestess is given mor's mercy and then cooked well, her flesh providing you with two days' worth of food extra.
Nutrius manages to calm himself down enough to sleep, not partaking in the flesh.
The goblins find a small pond around which some animals are sleeping and there appears to be some vegetation there as well.

It's morning, the 25th of Stomnis. What will you do?

What'll you do this night?

I won't save anyone because i know what will happen.

Over the next 3 nights you estimate to have travelled around a hundred kilometers into the desert.
There's no end in sight in any direction now - with just the sun and stars to guide you,
Sundown, the 29th of Stomnis, you've rested for the day. Your supplies will be good for another 5 days of food and 14 days of water - you've been able to sleep in small caves that dot the landscape so far, protecting yourself from the harshness of the elements.

Travelling at night was wise. The eight of you have managed to avoid trouble so far - yesterday you found a dying oasis with a few carrion birds drinking the water as though they're feeding on a corpse - killing some birds and filling up your supplies with the cleaner parts of the water, you continued.
It's the 4th of Jurias. By now you've travelled over two hundred kilometers for sure. No civilization in sight. Food for 4 days, water for 13.

You enter the tower around noon, exploring it and the suroundings. This place is ancient - you'd guess no one has lived here for many centuries. You scavenge some bugs and find the entrance to a well that by now has dried up - if there is any water, it's deep down and you have no way of getting it up to you.
The tower provides shelter for several hours of rest - during the night you wake up again. Nutrius casts a light spell so he can study the ruins again, which allows him to see some writing he had missed during the day - more of those picture-like letters, it's a shame he doesn't have Naorim or his notes with him to decipher them - this must be the same language as the scrolls. The night sky, with the Drana having recently gone through the new moon phase, is providing a beautiful view as well - more stars than you've ever seen in your lives, stars and constelations you don't quite recognize either.
"Stars..." Nutrius thinks and looks at the glyphs again. A map of the stars is what they are! After intense study, he manages to determine one thing - the course to the land of these ancients is due southwest of your current position.
>>
>>1286365
While Nutrius and Valris were studying the tower, the dwarves left and did not come back for the whole day and then hours into the night - they'd promised to be back around sundown...
>>
>>1286373
"Oh well..." i turn to Gopher-Punter and say "Southwest it is."
>>
>>1286381
Onwards then Human!
>>
Rolled 19 (1d100)

You continue onwards under the night sky, your trusty horse and your backpacks and pouches carrying food for 8 days and water for 14.
>>
You set off a bit later than usual and continued travelling hours into the day, only finding refuge around sundown the next day, almost a full day of travel. Not only are you and your horse tired, part of your supplies have gone to waste. It's the evening of the 5th, you're not in good condition to travel and you've got 5 days worth of food and 9 days worth of water.
>>
>>1286404
rest for a day then continue

Rolled 68 (1d100)

On the next evening you are able to set out again

9th of Jurias - just as your supplies were begining to dwindle. you managed to find a small oasis - Gods be praised! The trees bear some edible fruit - figs! You fill up your water and food supply to the brink of what you can carry, putting you at 10 days' worth of food and 15 days of water.
You're rather tired from the travelling and this place still has more water and fruit, though it is odd that you've not found any predators or sentient beings here.
It's noon, you're sitting in the shade of the fig trees.

These fig trees are not wild plants - they are cultivated, but from your studying them it looks like they haven't been tended to in the last few seasons at least. You find what looks like the remains of an old stone road coming from the southwest and ending at the oasis.
You spend a day resting well. It's sundown on the 10th, you set out again

Some minor annoucements:

“Just some more unfinished business left to me from Councilor Lingnu.
The late Jarreck Vance abused his official position as magistrate of Foothold to enrich himself, using public funds for funding his own household troops and buying expensive handgonnes and magical weapons for his children.
Unfortunately he died years ago, that does however not mean his crimes shall go unpunished. The assets and estates of his descendants will thus be seized. After all, they were purchased and funded by his stolen money.

The same applies to the Neru family. The crimes of the clan of Commodus is longer than I care to list. Their assets in Trusted Defense will also be transferred to the ownership of the Councilors. If only I could also have imprisioned the entire bunch.

All hail her majesty Bryguarda Stormbeast.”
