>You are Princess Zelda, heir to the fallen throne of Hyrule

>Your father, corrupted by Power, died in a coup, your Kingdom shattered in a civil war 10 years ago, the Hero in Green giving his life to ensure you escaped the conflict

>An uneasy peace has returned to the land, but omens of a descent into greater chaos than before loom on the horizon

>You, Zelda Hyrule, have the potential to claim your birthright and restore the Kingdom to what it once was, bring back true peace to the lands. Your path ahead is not set in stone; you must chisel it in yourself. What kind of Legend will you create?

As the Keaton returns to his mask, you, Aveli, and Sheik begin the trek up Mount Hylia. You take a brief moment to look over the mask you retrieved in the Spirit Temple. Hyrule was ever so close to facing an undead beast, corrupted by darkness, rampaging across its lands... the second one you’ve prevented in less than a week.

“So Z, this dragon guy, he anything like ours?” Aveli questions.

“I have only... conversed with him once. He seemed more... direct. Not quite as friendly, but not in any way hostile.” you reply, moving carefully as the mountain path narrows for a bit before widening again. “My hope is that he has some wisdom to impart on us for this task, at the very least.”

Sheik makes a sudden stop next to you, eyes fixed on something up ahead. “Princess. We are not alone on this trail.”

You notice it too... Tektites. A trio of them.

Aveli charges first, smacking one of the Tektites with her axe hard enough that it’s launched into the air. “Paaaardon us! We’re in a hur-OW!” aaaand it promptly lands on her head, cleaved in two.

Sheik clearly forces herself to hold back a laugh, dashing to get Aveli out of harm’s way as you cast Din’s Fire, catching the remaining two Tektites mid-jump in the blast and hurling them off the cliff. The three of you continue onwards, you catching a glimpse of the monsters still falling to the ground out of the corner of your eye.

“Well. That was a start to the morning.” Aveli grumbles, rubbing her helmet.

“Perhaps you should be more cautious, we are quite a ways up the mountain.” Sheik comments. “I imagine a fall from this height would not be one easily recovers from.”

“Yeah yeah...”

Finally, the three of you reach the mountain’s summit, a cold breeze sending a slight shiver down your spine. You fail to spot the dragon initially, but a stronger breeze signals you to look up... as the creature descends slowly, its castle-sized body casting the peak in shadow.

‘YOU HAVE ACCOMPLISHED THE TASK ASKED OF YOU. THE HARBINGER OF DEATH RESTS EASY ONCE MORE.’

You give the dragon a respectful curtsey in greeting. “My deepest apologies for having to bring him to such a rest once more.”

You present the mask to the dragon, laying it at the top of the peak. The dragon descends, and you truly begin to understand the size of the creature. Its eyes alone are nearly as wide as you are tall. He seems to sigh out softly, but even that feels like a strong gust of wind. ‘I THANK YOU GREATLY FOR THIS.’ The dragon’s eyes seem to glow with a golden light, the mask lifting up into the air and... breaking apart. ‘YOU HAVE KEPT THE LANDS SAFE, FOR THE TIME BEING.’

“Dragon, if you do not mind my asking, what can you tell me about these masks?” you question, Sheik helping Aveli up after the dragon’s sigh knocked her over.

‘I CAN SAY FOR CERTAINTY THAT, THANKFULLY, THEY ARE NOT THE MOST DANGEROUS OF MASKS I HAVE KNOWN OF IN LEGEND. BUT THEY ARE BORN OF THE SAME DARK, TWISTED POWER OF IT. THEIR MAKER IS ILLUSIVE, EVEN TO MY SIGHT. BUT I CAN ALSO TELL YOU THAT YOUR DESTINY IS LINKED TO HIS GOAL.’

That’s... a comforting thought. “Why do you say that, great dragon? Does... does the man with masks seek to end the world? Time and again the actions I have seen taken were to awaken beasts that could rampage across Hyrule unchallenged, easily bring destruction beyond its borders...”

‘YOU SEEK TO SAVE HYRULE. HE SEEKS, IF NOT THE RETURN, THE [POWER] OF GANON. IT IS AN INEVITABILITY THAT YOU PLAY SOME ROLE IN IT. EITHER ONE COULD BE IT SEEKING TO BRING THE WORLD INTO RUIN, THOUGH I SUSPECT THERE IS GREATER PURPOSE BEHIND IT. PURPOSE LINKED TO THE MASKS HE USES TO CARRY OUT HIS GOALS.’

The way the dragon says “Power” feels... odd to you. And you are not sure you like any of the implications of that statement. “I see. Dragon, do you know of any lands that require our immediate action, as the Gerud did?”

The dragon moves its head back, slowly looking around. ‘AT THIS MOMENT, YOU HAVE TIME TO BREATHE. YOU HAVE DEALT A BLOW TO THE SERVANTS OF THE DARK LORD, ONE THEY WILL NEED TO PLAN FOR. BUT I KNOW THAT SOME TIME IN THE NEAR FUTURE, THE TEMPLE OF SHADOWS WILL REQUIRE YOUR AID’

“Temple... of Shadows...” you repeat. Ah, but of course. Sheik visibly winces at that, but does not protest. You do notice her get closer to you, though. “I am aware of that much, at least. If none have ill omens yet, what do you recommend, great dragon?”

The dragon moves its head towards a swampy region in the distance, towards the north-east, with a small hill near it. ‘THE TEMPLE OF TIME HOUSES GREAT SECRETS OF HYRULE, AND THE THING WHICH GANON FEARS MOST. BUT A WORD OF CAUTION TO THOSE WHO SEEK IT, FOR ANY UNWORTHY TO WEILD EVIL’S BANE WILL FIND ITS SPIRIT REJECT THEM.’

The dragon next moves its head to a more forested region to the south, the one you spotted before Gaebora Town. ‘THERE EXISTS SOME WHO MAY KNOW OF THE MAN WITH MASKS, SOME CONTEMPORARIES OF HIS FIRST VISITS TO THESE LANDS, LOST IN WOODS OF MYSTERY.’

The dragon then moves its head to a region in the west, looking up in the clouds instead of the ground. ‘A TEMPLE IN THE SKY WATCHED OVER THE CHAOS OF THE HYLIAN WAR, THE CHAOS OF THE PHANTOM OF GANON, AND NEVER ONCE FELL TO DARK FORCES. THE TEMPLE’S CHOSEN HAS COME TO THE LANDS UPON WARNING OF DARKNESS RETURNING.’

And finally... Kakariko. You can see the village clearly as the dragon’s head turns to it last. ‘THE TEMPLE OF SHADOWS, HOME OF HYRULE’S DEAD, WILL ONE DAY NEED YOU, PRINCESS. BUT FOR NOW... THE FORCES OF DARKNESS ARE HELD AT BAY. THESE ARE THE PLACES I FORSEE YOUR DESTINY, PRINCESS ZELDA OF HYRULE. BUT YOU ALONE CAN CARVE IT INTO STONE. FAREWELL.’

You nod in understanding as the dragon spreads its wings and flies away, the three of you this time bracing yourselves as the gales blow across the mountain. Aveli leans on her axe after standing herself again. “Ssssso. Just kinda looked like the big ol’ lizard staring at a few places. Where you gonna head next, Z?”

“The Temple of Time holds the power to strike back at Ganon. The man with masks is linked to Ganon’s return, we know that much. At the very least, it could become a target in the near future... perhaps even wield the Bane of Evil against those forces, if its Spirit allows.”

“Now THAT sounds like a plan!” Aveli comments. “What’re we waiting for, Z?”

“The forest which houses the Temple of Time is surrounded by a swamp, Princess.” Sheik comments. “It may prove difficult to get to, given the settlements near there have declined significantly in the last few years. Octorok numbers have increased significantly in recent years too.”

“Right, Impa mentioned that swamp a couple times in the past.” you add, rubbing your chin. “Regardless, we should be on our way. We at the very least need to start moving in that direction...”

The three of you descend from Mount Hylia, thankfully with no further encounters with monsters. At the base of the mountain, near the outskirts of the town, you spot a modestly familiar sight; Lon Lon Ranch wagons, with Captain Douglas as their escort this time. Well... you do have the time, perhaps you should take him up on mounted combat lessons.

You ask for Keaton to approach Captain Douglas with you, the fox spirit happily obliging as Sheik and Aveli walk with. The man sees the wagons off, then catches you approaching, signaling for his horse to meet you. “Well now, this is a surprise. Miss Termina, was it?”

You nod respectfully. “That it was, Captain Douglas.”

“Heh, and you’ve made another friend” the man comments, noticing the little Iron Knuckle with you. “Well you caught me at just the right time. Here to take me up on that offer?” he questions, dismounting.

“If you are still willing to teach.” you state with a smile. You also hear Aveli comment aloud that the guy looks familiar, like she’s heard of him before.

He grins wide. “Well, let’s start with the basics. Which would you like to learn first, quick-mounting, jump-dismounting, or steadying your aim while riding?”

You think about it for a moment to weigh your options. Ultimately, you decide that the best choice to start with would be... “The jump-dismount. I’m curious on what you mean by it. Could you give a demonstration?”

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SaLfhzGOqaU

Captain Douglas quickly gets back on his horse... and has it start running at full speed. Sheik and Aveli stare in mild awe as the horse bolts away, then circles around fast, passing by you. Captain Douglas then makes a quick stand, and leaps from the horse, the animal giving a slight buck as he does to help launch him into the air before straying to the left. For a moment... time seems to slow, as Captain Douglas uses the momentum gained from the action to punch down at the ground, fast enough that you swear the sheer friction from it leaves a few sparks in the air, a shimmer in the shape of a bird around his fist. Ah, you recognize it now. The thing he did to kill that Pehat.

Captain Douglas stands and salutes. “It allows you to work with your h- ...well, in this case, your fox, to bring down a strong first strike against an enemy. It’s saved my rear a few times before when situations got dire.”

Sheik still seems mildly impressed by his action, while Aveli scoots over to you and mumbles out, “Z, I... think my mom told me about this guy. Wonder if he’s still single, she might get me a kid sister yet.”

You find yourself tilting your head and laughing. “Playing matchmaker, miss Draggai?”

“Hey, just sayin'.”

“Want to give this a try, miss Termina?” the man asks.

You nod, readying yourself with Keaton. The two of you decide to match the horse’s speed before going at full sprint, and you carefully mimic what you saw him do. You figure that your best bet with this would be a sword strike, and so you draw your blade. At the right moment, you mirror Captain Douglas’s quick stand, Keaton bucking and even jumping slightly to help launch you off it. You grip your sword tight and land down hard with this jump-strike, carefully planting your feet to avoid hurting yourself.

Captain Douglas lets out a soft whistle. “You’re a natural, kid! Hah, it took some of my best at least a day or two of practice to get that down, and here you are pulling it off like it was nothing.”

“I merely followed your instructions, sir.” you reply, wiping the dirt off your blade.

“Feel up for any more?”

“Yes, I still have time for it.” you comment, looking to Sheik. She gives a small nod, finding a boulder and taking a seat on it.

“Heh, well Termina, don’t get overconfident here...”

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IKMf5CQmzvs

Ah, but that is just a slight bit easier said than done. You easily master the art of quickly mounting the Keaton, at a moment’s notice. This may come in handy in encounters to come, as you could easily call Keaton, mount him, and attack with a jump strike to land a particularly powerful blow on a foe. And just as easily, you use your already-present skill in crossbow use to better effect as you’re riding Keaton. Your know exactly how to steady your aim as the Keaton moves, and it seems Keaton has learned to read your own movements even better.

Learning all of these, you manage to even learn how to better ride Keaton, allowing him to accelerate quicker. Ah, Sheik will hate it if you do that with her, but there’s clear advantage to you at least. And unlike a horse, Keaton can pounce and strike at a foe himself, attacking beyond just trampling attempts. You now know how to better brace yourself and attack with the fox spirit as it strikes.

It’s about 4 pm by the time you figure you’ve mastered this kind of training. Aveli seems impressed by how readily you pick these skills up, and even Captain Douglas finds how easily you manage this to be something unique. “Girl, you are quite a little surprise. You and your fox... thing. Have you thought of joining the Hylian Knights? You’re a natural at this, your skills at swordplay are quite sharp for someone your age, and you’re especially skilled at the crossbow.”

“I am flattered, Captain Douglas, but I may have to decline on that for the time being. There are other things I have to do. Thank you ever so much for helping me.”

He salutes. “Well, if you ever change your mind, offer is open. Where are you headed, if you don’t mind my asking?”

“We will be heading to the swamp in the north-east. Reports are that it’s become more dangerous recently, blocking off access to the Temple of Time.” you explain, approaching Sheik.

“Ahh, helping clear that area out? Quite noble of you.” he responds. “Used to be much busier before the war messed everything up. Say... you doing this for those Hylia-worshipers, by any chance?”

You shake your head. “While I did take a job to clear out some trouble in their Temple, I am not on their payroll for this. Why do you ask?”

Captain Douglas shrugs. “Not many are all that willing to go through with such an ugly task on their own, and those folks have been a bit more active recently, trying to refurbish the Temples for when the Princess returns to us. I don’t much buy it myself, the kid’s been gone for all these years, might be living a quiet life away from the big ol’ ball of politics and backstabbing that’s up there in Castle Town.”

You look away as he commentates on that. One more thing you’ll eventually have to face... when there’s time to do so. “...If she ever decides to, I just hope there’s a Hyrule left to return to. I’ve seen dark signs in the last few days. I don’t want chaos to come back to these lands.”

He raises an eyebrow, then makes a quick “a-hah” noise. “Ah, you were just a kid during the war, weren’t you?” You look back to him and give a nod. “...I lost people in it too. People close to me. Wasn’t easy once it was... look, Termina, I can sympathize with what you’re doing. I can empathize with it. I can understand wanting to go out there and just punch that demon right in his stupid face. But don’t let yourself be defined by it.”

You give him a warm smile. “Your words are kind and wise, Captain Douglas. I will take them to heart. I look forward to meeting you again.”

“And if you’re ever near the Gerudo Desert, give a shout for Telma.” Aveli comments. The man seems confused by her comment at first then his eyes widen, slight blush coming across his face. Aveli waves to him and hurries after you.

“You just had to, didn’t you?” Sheik asks the little Iron Knuckle.

“Hey, mom’ll appreciate it. And I bet he will too!” she replies in a cheeky tone.

Moving across Hyrule once again, you spot the swampy region slowly come into view as the Keaton races across the fields. A slight fog seems to roll in from almost out of nowhere... and this far inland, too. The swamp itself is thick, with little in the way of easy crossing. You also spot some buildings a short distance away, in a clearing... but they seem to be falling into disrepair.

You take a look at the surroundings, Sheik’s hold on you easing as the Keaton slows down again. “Keaton... do you know your way around this place? Is there any easy crossing nearby?”

‘Hee-hee-ho! Ah, it is not an easy task to cross this swamp anymore. That village up ahead used to have a bridge linking one side of the swamp to the next, but it is no longer here. I can spot rotten bits of wood where it used to stand. One must go around the swamp if they wish to stay clear of the dangers that lurk in here. The closest crossing is to the north, where the hills begin.’

“I was afraid you would say that...” you sigh out. “Girls, let’s investigate that village up ahead. Perhaps there are still people here who can help us cross.”

“That place is a ghost town, Z. You sure that’s the best idea?” Aveli asks, walking with you and Sheik as Keaton returns to his mask.

“It is worth a look, at the very least.” Although... you do have the Gloves... no, no, save that for later, you don't need to scout around THAT way. Aveli’s comment is fairly spot-on, though. Through the decayed houses and trees, there is very little evidence of recent habitation. Some places even look like inhabitants left in a hurry. Deeper into the swamp, through the fog, you spot some Octoroks attack a bird that crosses their path. Monsters aren’t usually that aggressive... maybe something to do with the coming darkness, or maybe something has them spooked.

You do manage to catch at least one hopeful sight, though. There is a boat tied to the shore, with lantern lights inside it. At least one person is still around here. The three of you approach it, heading up the ramp connecting it to the shore, parting aside the curtain entrance...

“OOOOOOOH! Customers! Finally!”

Aveli kinda wants a horse or mount of her own now, and made a mental note to start saving up cash for it.

Sheik was impressed, but not exactly surprised.

Captain Douglas found your ease at accomplishing such tasks really bizarre, but was more than happy to see it. You're a natural, and he already commented that he feels you'd make a great Hylian Knight.
>>
>>1253483

That doesn't mean someone shouldn't still point it out.

A wandering merchant is one thing, setting shop in a place were people is not likely to go is another.

Horse riding is a skill of royalty... or in this case Fox riding.

Is there something we wanted to buy we haven't yet?

I think we have enough team menbers for the temple of time, we are four if you count our undead knight and adding even more would be cheating as the temples tests are not supposed to taken by many people at once.

Of all the things you were expecting to see when you arrived in this village... this sight is certainly fairly low on the list. But you guess it’s a more welcoming one, at the very least. “Come in, come in!” the man in shorts and sandals requests, you, Aveli, and Sheik slowly making your way into his boat.

“...I, uh, take it we’re the first you’ve had in quite some time.” Aveli comments to the man, looking around his rather... interesting shop. You spot some strange items for sale among a few more normal ones. While there are some wooden sheilds, a few iron ones, even a couple Hylian ones, you spot a variety of fruits, several strange-smelling bags, and a few potions for sale.

“I knew I could trust in that man! Come, come, take a look around!”

"You know there is a town not far awa where you would have better sales even if it was as a wandering merchant, right?" As royalty you have been trained about how to manage money... but you are not sure if it stuck. There is not even some grass were you can farm money from! There are no monsters that drop things or money when they die, not people to give you quests.

Wait a minute... shouldn't this be about how he set shop in an abandoned town? Whatever happened to your common sense?

“Forgive me for this, but... is this really the best place to set up shop? You seem almost completely alone out here, Mr...?”

“Beedle!” he replies in a high pitched, friendly voice. “Thank you for coming regardless!”

“No, really, you are at a nearly abandoned village.” Aveli repeats. “What gives?”

“And who is it you trusted in for customers to come?” you add.

“Viol! My good friend, he has been trying to help me push some life back into this town!” Beedle responds.

You find yourself tilting your head. Of course he’s part of this. “Well... what do you have available, Mr. Beedle?”

“Many fresh fruits! Many wonderful items!” he states, starting to explain...

In addition to the wooden, iron, and Hylian shields, there are Red Potions, Green Potions, Blue Potions, a few Bombs, Arrows, lots of Oil for lanterns and... you hope most of the rest is cooking oil, and several kinds of fruits. One of them stands out to you, an oddly shaped type of pear that Beedle calls a Hyoi Pear. If left on the top of your head and grabbed by a passing by bird or bat, it will allow a brief link between person and animal, allowing to see what the animal sees for a short amount of time. An animal’s instincts will kick in when threatened, though, forcing the person out of the link.

You decide to humor the merchant before asking him more questions, purchasing one of the Hyoi Pears.

[Rupees: 253/500]

“THAAAANK YOU!” the man nearly shouts.

“Mr. Beedle... again, I do not mean to offend, but I don’t imagine there is much in the way of income around here. What happened to this town, why are you the only one left?”

He sighs softly. “The monsters, Octoroks mostly. Chasing people away, ruining the fishing industry, blocking off access to the Temple. This is my home... I can’t just abandon it like everyone else. But Viol has promised to help me bring life back here, as soon as he can.”

Okay, pieces are falling into place better now. “What has he promised to do for you?”

“Viol has been trying to send people this way to clear out the swamp’s monsters so long as I keep this shop open... a-are you with him?” Beedle asks hopefully.

“We have not been sent by him, but we have come for reasons relating to the monsters.” Sheik comments. “And the Temple of Time.”

“What do you know of the Temple of Time? Is there a way to reach it through the swamp, or must one travel around?” you question.

“Viol said it is vital that the Temple is kept secured, so I have patrolled the route from here to. It would be ever so horrible if monsters entered into it, he says.” He smiles wide at the three of you. “If you are here for the monsters, I can help you get to the Temple.”

>A. Would it be too much to ask for a discount on one of your best shields after we clear the area?

“We feel these terms are acceptable, Beedle. Right girls?”

“Hey, fine by me! The more monsters to smash, the better.” Aveli replies cheerfully.

“I can agree to this as well.” Sheik comments. “If you feel this is the best course of action.”

“Then it is settled. When will you depart, Beedle?”

“I will leave at sundown.”

“...wait, why sundown?” Sheik questions.

“Because the monsters are more active at night. The more you clear out then, the less there will be during the day.” he explains.

Sheik raises an eyebrow at that. “I can understand the logic... but it also puts yourself in harm’s way, Beedle.”

He tilts his head at a spear... no, it’s more like an oar, but with a sharpened point at the end, in the corner. “Worry not! I can fend for myself!”

It’s still some time until sundown... well, at the very least... “Sheik, perhaps you could get a sheild to help defend yourself, if you are worried.”

“It is not my safety I am most concerned about... I will be fine.” she tells you humbly.

You decide to wait out the remainder of the time neat Beedle’s boat. Should take a breather while you have the chance, the night may be a challenge. The three of you settle around the ramp to the boat, the eerie fog still creeping through the abandoned town, but at the very least it’s cleared up slightly now.

Aveli removes her helmet and places it down on the ground next to her, briefly looking at Beedle’s ship, then at the swamp itself. “So, thinking up any other plans for this, T?”

“It all depends on what resides within the Octorok-infested swamp. If that is the majority of monsters around here, then they are a clear nuisance, but nothing that should be too much to handle.” you state. “I have a feeling that there are other creatures lurking in there, though.”

“I suspect as much as well.” Sheik comments, giving a brief glance around the town, then looking into the swamp. “While continued attacks from Octoroks would be enough to force civilians to flee, it would take a great number to accomplish such a task in such a short amount of time. Either that, or the Octoroks being the grunts for more dangerous monsters lurking deeper in.”

>A. You could try the Hyoi Pear to scout it out
>B. Enough about this, though. Aveli, I was not aware the Gerudo had cannons capable of using Magic. It interests me

“Well, let us think critically about this, then. If the Octoroks are part of a larger force, then that force has something to do with the Temple of Time. Sheik, do you know of anything about the Temple of Time that may be of interest to them? Beyond what we already know, that is. Shamefully I must admit that I do not know as much about the Temple as I should, even with instruction from... her.”

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=I9YDsH-X9HE

She rubs her chin contemplatively. “Well... Evil’s Bane resides inside there, true, and I imagine that the monsters would want to be rid of it, but I doubt that would be particularly easy for them. That much we do know. But the Temple of Time also holds secrets of previous rulers of Hyrule. And in addition, it has a connection to the past, hence its name.”

“Well, lots of temples are ‘connected’ to the past, Sheik.” Aveli states.

Sheik gives her a bemused glance. “I mean that literally. Legend holds that the Temple of Time is named such for a reason. On a number of occasions, it served heroes of times past by allowing them travel through time itself. In addition, the people of Hyrule have used it to honor the Goddess of Time on numerous occasions.”

Numerous thoughts enter into your head on the potential of such an action. How it could be used, how it might be abused, and how Ganon’s forces may stop at nothing to gain control of it... but at the same time, you find yourself reassured by the dragon’s comments on it. Your ancestors must have known of the risks, and surely they placed a number of safeguards in order to ensure such a thing does not happen. Still... a part of you feels a degree of excitement and wonder on what awaits you inside it. “I see, thank you, Sheik. That gives us some idea on what to expect inside there.”

“I am glad I could be of service to you.” she states humbly.

“On a lighter note... Aveli, I am still quite curious on that cannon we saw last night. You mentioned it used a kind of magic once used to empower bows and arrows with magic, correct?”

She nods. “Ayup. And damn, it was great seeing her in action.”

You bring out your crossbow and look over it. “I may have to return to your people again some time, to see if I can get such a thing applied to my own weapon.” Though... another thought hits you. You remember how the Sword Beam operates, in addition to Horon’s Gloves of Flame. At full strength, they both can cast a projectile using magic. Under the right circumstances, with the right enchantments... might it also be possible to apply that to your Crossbow?

“Heh, betcha Lady Geldama might be interested in that kind of thing herself. Mom said she was quite the tinkerer in her youth, always curious, always clever. She’s turned that more towards battle tactics and leadership, buuuut if she knew about how to mass produce those kinds of cannons...”

“...A comforting thought.” Sheik comments dryly.

“What’s that supposed to mean?” Aveli grumbles, glaring.

>A. Actually, I can agree with that kind of thinking; being able to enchant cannons like that on a wide scale would make defending Hyrule, or any land for that matter, much easier
>B. I would personally rather focus efforts away from such widespread manufacturing of weapons for now; as helpful as it may be in the future, Hyrule is still fragile, with its many regions only loosely held together as the memories of the war are still fresh

“I’m not so sure I can agree with that line of thinking.” you add in.

Aveli frowns. “Why not?”

You look down, hugging your knees to your chest. “For one, it is clearly not easy to mass produce such an enchantment, else the Gerudo would have gotten several cannons like that, not just one. And personally, I would rather focus efforts on things other than weapons of war. While I could see need of them further in the future, Hyrule’s current peace is still fragile. Many regions are still only loosely held together in this peace as memories of the war are still fresh.”

“A-ah... right...” the Gerudo girl seems to understand your point, but you can tell from the look on her face that she wishes she could argue it.

“If any region starts up an arms race, they could become a target, seen as a threat by the others. An excuse for war. I do not wish for Hylians going after the Gerudo under that kind of pretense.” you add. Aveli seems to accept that point better. “However, on a smaller scale, say producing bows or crossbows with such enchantments, it would not cause the same kind of suspicions laid against them. I myself do find use in getting such enchantments for my crossbow.”

“Heh, you’re so smart. You seem to think of everything.” the little Iron Knuckle praises.

You smile shyly at the compliment. “I guess I have to be. That said, after this, is there any place either of you feel we should make our way towards next?”

Sheik shows clear surprise at the question, not quite sure how to answer. “...I-I suppose the place I feel would benefit us the most after this is the Great Sky Temple. Going on the dragon’s words.”

“That is sensible. And we do have some more information on it, now...”

“Hey, along the way, think we could travel towards the sea?” Aveli asks.

“...the sea?” the Sheikah girl repeats.

Aveli blushes slightly, rubbing the back of her neck. “I mean... if we have the time. I’ve... never actually been all that close to the ocean, but I always hear about it, it’s made me want to go- ...ah, sorry, here you two are all focused on helping Hyrule, and I’m being all selfish...”

You can’t help but chuckle kindly at that request. “I did ask your preference. A small detour there would be fine. And I do know someone in a coastal town who would be happy to show you around there...”

You take aim with your crossbow, steadying your aim as the three Octoroks on Starboard pop out of the water. Sheik throws a needle towards the middle one, you firing your Crossbow and striking the left one right in the eye... but not quite in time for you to be able to move out of the way of the monster spitting out a stone at you. You stumble in the boat, allowing another rock from the middle Octorok to strike you. Aveli rushes to your aid and keeps you from falling overboard, you quickly retaliating and firing a bolt at the middle Octorok, finishing it.

The final Octorok thankfully misses you all entirely, and you quickly take aim and strike it in the eye too. The three monsters vanish with a puff of blackened mist through the fog, Zas making quick work of the two on port. Sheik helps you stand, “Are you hurt? I am sorry, I should have-”

You have a number of foes around you. But you also have a plan. “Girls, stand back! Zas, get to safety!”

Sheik tries to move back quickly, but gets nicked by one of the Octoroks starting to barrage Beedle’s boat. Aveli pulls her out of harm’s way as Zas makes it back in time. You then set a Bombchu aimed at the five Octoroks all grouped together and fling it into the water. While normal bombs have a bit of trouble with terrain like this, the swamp is shallow enough that when it reaches the five...

BAM!

An explosion thunders through the swamp, catching all five of them in the explosion. Aveli lets out a giddy laugh. “Hey, Beedle! You fancy calamari at all?”

“I’m a vegetarian!”

“More for us!” she laughs.

“Don’t rock the boat so much either!” he pleads.

“We’ll do the best we can!” Five down, five to go. With better warning this time, you duck down and avoid another barrage of rocks from the four to the other side, flinging another Bombchu out at them. It travels through the swamp, and...

BAM!

“That makes nine! One left!”

You fling the last Bombchu forward at the Octorok, telling Beedle to halt the advance. And with another thunderous crack, it dies too.

[Bombchus: 7/10]

The last explosion seems to disturb a broken tree half-sunk in the swamp... or what looked like a tree. As you slowly approach, it becomes clear that it is moving. Towards you. “...Well, anybody want seconds?” Aveli questions as a giant Octorok moves towards the boat.

>A. Same strategy as before, Bombchus away!
>B. Zas, move to it and attack, we’ll back you up!
>C. Aveli, how about sushi instead? Throw her at the monster!
>D. Help Beedle maneuver the boat with your Hookshot! Keep it out of harm’s way!
>E. Crossbow time! Keep firing until it goes down!
>F. Something else?

You’ve got four Bombchus with that thing’s name on them. “Beedle, keep it steady!” you shout, waiting for the monster’s mouth to open wide. You quickly fling the Bombchu at it right as it’s about th hurl a boulder at you, striking it at just the right moment that it not does it travel into the monster’s mouth, it also blasts apart the boulder inside it. A lucky hit!

...though from the blast, a few stones come at you. Sheik gets in front of you and manages to knock most of the falling rubble away, but still gets hit in the shoulder by a large stone, falling back onto you and knocking you down. “Sheik, T, you okay?!” Aveli yells out, helping you stand again.

Sheik rubs her shoulder. “M-mostly...”

[Hearts: 7/9]

You rub the back of your head, but do your best to shake it off. “It’s not down yet!” you shout out, noticing the monster struggling to get back up. That did a number on it, but it will still take a bit more before it falls. You set another three Bombchus and fling them off the boat, the explosions lighting up the fog and sending waves crashing against the boat. The monster groans in pain, pushing itself back up, even grappling a pair of trees with its massive tentacles as it searches for another boulder.

“How durable IS that thing?!” the little Iron Knuckle hollers out in surprise.

“Not durable enough. Zas, it’s open!”

“RRAAAHHH!” the phantom knight roars, bringing his massive blade crashing down on the creature’s face. The giant Octorok staggers, but somehow is still not dead yet.

“ZAS, HERE!” Aveli shouts, tossing her axe to him.

He uses the opportunity to bash the monster’s face with his shield, letting go of it momentarily to catch Aveli’s axe, bringing it crashing down against the giant beast's head, shattering the shell and cleaving through the face, finishing it with a powerful stab from his sword.

The creature slowly starts to sink into the swamp, the four of you on the boat letting out a collective sigh of relief as the thing breaks apart bit by bit before vanishing like the fifteen smaller ones before it. “That... well, can’t say I expected that going in here.” the young Gerudo lets out, Zas returning her axe to her.

Sheik rubs her shoulder again. “I can see why the monsters were such trouble before. Normal villagers would be smart to run rather than face that.”

“LAAAAAND HO!” Beedle announces, the shore coming into view. Beyond there, you manage to spot a small clearing out in the distance through the fog, and in that clearing, the faint but unmistakable sign of a temple illuminated by moonlight.

All right folks, that's it for this thread. Next thread will start in about a week. Did y’all have fun?

lots of fun, thanks Kato

Lots of fun, thanks for running, Kato. Did we really clear out all the monsters in the swamp, or are there still some stragglers?

Thanks for playing!

There are still a few Octoroks in the swamp, but killing the biggest of their number spooked them away. There might still be a few more things out there, but you did just get rid of 15 normal ones and a giant Octorok.

Do we get a quest reward? At least a free potion or two?
>>
>>1266253
Yep. You'll receive it starting next thread.
>>
Bomb spamming might not have been the smartest thing, but it was damn satisfying.
>>
>>1266289
Definitely.
>>
>>1266289

Actually considering the battlefield being water and us not having the right items to fight in water or underwater, it was the safest choice. The enemy could have flipped the boat and best gerudo girl wears heavy armor.

So yes it was the best choice.
>>
>>1266576
Aw fuck, she would've had to strip all that armor off and resurface with wet, form-fitted clothes, we totally dodged an octo-bullet there.
>>
>>1266650
Maybe we should push her in after all
