Welcome one and all to Kobold Civ Quest. Ran something like this years ago on /tg/ and, [s]with nothing better to do[/s] because I like you guys so much, I decided to give this another shot on /qst/.

Real fucking simple premise here; You're a group of Kobolds that just recently got your shit kicked in by some other assholes that we'll determine later on, and your whole goal is to find a new place to settle down, recoup your losses, and seek revenge!

Or, you know, end up dying.

Now as is apparently common on this board, I went and set up a twitter for you fucks in case ya'll got questions or if you wanna' check up on the progress of when I'll be postin' again.

Twitter: https://twitter.com/QM_Brush

Dice rolls will be as such.
d20's, or multiples of them, for every basic task and such, and we'll be using Best of 5 because I'm super generous.
d100's will be used for random events and encounters. They can range from finding magical berries to coming across Kobold eating Owls.

So without further ado, let's kick it!

Previously on Kobold Quest: Khumgrin and the others tried to make amends with the only surviving Bullywug of a surprise attack, Horgin, in order to appease the rest of his tribe and not get them all killed.

Traveling to the Bullywug's village they met with their queen, Booey Wooey, and was given a quest to return a Demi-God's axe to him. Only problem is that this Demi-God lives in a volcano.

Whoops.

You've fought giant crabs, groups of Bullywugs, and survived the destruction of your home. But nothing compares to Snas' tiny hands slapping you across every part of your body.

"Ow ow ow!" You try to shield your money maker of a face as best you can, after all it's not often Kobold's are born with a snooter as good lookin' as yours, but Snas seems to just take that as a challenge to slap you harder. "Snas calm down-"

"CALM DOWN?!" She screams as she tries to slap you. "Cragg lives in Doom's Peak Khumgrin, DOOM'S PEAK!"

"Maybe he just lives at the base of the volcano?" You try to sound reassuring, but Snas thrusting the map into your face and showing where Booey Wooey clearly wrote "inside volcano, not at base" along with a little picture of her giving a thumbs up makes it clear that yes, you'll have to go inside the volcano. "Oh...Well it's not all bad. We're Kobolds, we love the heat!"

Snas sighs loudly, teeth grinding as she rolls up the map and begins stomping away, muttering curse words that you didn't even know to herself.

Dusting yourself off you turn to Gex and the twins, who just give you a small shrug in response.

>"I'm sure she's just overreacting. We'll be fine."
>"We're in big trouble aren't we?"
>"Say Gex, don't suppose you know any anti-lava spells do ya'?"
>Just return to camp without saying anything.(time skip)

"We're in big trouble aren't we?"

Stik and Pike put their hands on your shoulders, giving you a reassuring smile and a thumbs up.

"Don't worry boss, I'm sure you'll-"
"-Figure something out. You always do."

One last pat on the shoulder and the twins go off to follow Snas, leaving you alone with Gex. "Honestly," They start, looking less than positive than the twins were. "I don't know what to think chief. It's still barely been a week since the tribe got attacked, and now we're dealing with Demi-Gods?" They shake their head, heading the same way the others went. "It scares me how you just sort of roll along with the punches."

>"Well, after a while you just sort of get used to it."
>"Honestly I'm still shook up, but if I stop and think about it I might break down."
>"Nothin' to it Gex, just gotta' go with the flow and duck those punches when they're thrown."

You shrug, throwing Gex a cocky grin. "Nothin' really to it Gex, just go with the flow and duck those punches when they're thrown."

Gex shakes their head but grins nonetheless at your cockiness and assured attitude. "Maybe. Anyways, let's get back to the cave, who knows what happened while we were gone."

You blink. The Cave. With all the excitement of dealing with the Bullywugs and Booey Wooey giving you the quest, you'd forgotten about the rest of your people back home. "I'm sure they're fiiiine." You reassure yourself.

(Very lucky there)

As you, Snas, and the others return home to the cave, you're greeted with the sight of at least ten giant crab bodies, littered about at the entrance of your home. As you get closer you can see that they have multiple scorch marks over their carapaces, some of them actually missing chunks, as well as many of their sharp pointy teeth either trapped in bear traps or snapped clean off by the traps. The ones who had managed to get even close to the entrance seemed to have been stopped by some needles of some sort. No, looking closer you can see they're fish bones, shaped into barbs and digging into the crabs mouths and eyes.

"Wow." Stik and Pike say at the same time, awestruck at the mess.

"Well, looks like the crabby bastards couldn't even get inside the cave before Tix's traps laid into 'em." You muse, giving a soft kick to one of the dead crabs and grinning as you watch it fall over. "Won't be hungry for a while, that's for sure."

"CHIEF!" Comes a shout. Looking over you can see the Vik, as well as the rest of your tribe rushing over to you with excited and happy looks. "We were worried you weren't gonna' come back! So is everything cleared up with the Bullywugs? Did ya' kill their leaders? What happened?"

"Geez Vik calm down would ya'." You push the other blessed Kobold off of you, looking around at all the curious faces awaiting for you to say something.

>Be upfront, tell them the whole thing.
>Just tell them that the Bullywugs won't be bothering you anymore.
>Ask what happened while you were gone.
>Write in.

Part of you wants to tell Vik and the others everything, about how the only reason there's not an army of Bullywugs raining down on them is because you agreed to Booey Wooey's request, but seeing the slight fear in everyone's eyes you decide to wait till later. For now, you wanna' know what happened. "So, what happened while we were gone. Don't remember there being quite this many crabs on our front lawn the last time."

That earns you some chuckles, and while Vik looks like he wants to press the question, he drops it. Tix instead answers your question, quite enthusiastically by the looks of how often her piercings jingle. "It was AMAZING! The crabs showed up, I think they were angry because you killed that one a couple days ago, and they tried to barge into the cave. They weren't counting on how many traps I had set though. We still had some spare bear traps from that first day, and then Von used some of his explodey potions to confuse them even more. Then, right when they got to the mouth of the cave, the Pin Cushion activated!"

"Pin...Cushion?" You ask.

Tix nods, sharp teeth gleaning. "All those fish bones we had left over made for a perfect trap, I pushed them all into a beehive, set a few explosives inside, and then activated it when the time was right. They were stuck more than...well a pin cushion."

You can tell that Tix is happy with how her traps helped protect your new home. You hadn't seen her this cheery since the day she got her first hammer.

"Well good job Tix, good job EVERYONE. We kept our new home safe once again. Now, let's get these crabs inside and have some dinner, what do ya' say?" You're met with a resounding shout of agreement as your tribe starts to drag the giant crabs inside, and before long it's just you, Snas, and Vik outside.

"Alright," He starts, leaning on his club and giving you a hard stare. "Now what happened?"

>Tell him everything?
>What do you tell him?
>>
>>1245031
>>Tell him everything
>>
>>1245031
>What do you tell him?
Vik's bloodthirsty as hell, and we don't need him doing something reckless and damaging our reputation with the Bullywugs further. Instead, say that you talked with their leader and they asked for you to 'run an errand' to seal an alliance. Ignore all the parts about, y'know... dying and stuff.
>>
>>1245047
>>1245078
Ya'll wanna' talk it out with each other? Since it's just two people playin' tonight there's no tie-breakers.
>>
>>1245031
Tell him everything

You give a long sigh as you look at Snas, who just shrugs her shoulders, before turning back to Vik. Well, better now than later. "Okay, so the Bullywugs aren't going to be bothering us for now."

"But they could be bothering us later?" Vik asks.

"Wellllll, that's the thing. They'll actually consider forming an alliance with us." Vik just gives you a confused look. "Yeah, even knowing that we killed like seven of their people."

"....What's the catch Khumgrin? What aren't you telling me?"

You gulp. "...They want us to return an Ax, to a Demi-God....in a volcano." There's silence as the three of you just stand there looking at each other, before Vik just shrugs his shoulders.

"Okay, so where's the volcano?"

"Wait what?! You're not surprised, or angry?!" Snas cuts in.

Again, Vik shrugs. "I trust Khum's judgement. He's our leader and he makes decisions that the rest of us sometimes don't understand. Now, where's the volcano?"

"Doom's Peak." You reply. And you're treated to a sight you don't see often. Vik looking terrified. "Uh, everything alright there Vik?"

"Doom's Peak..." He whispers to himself, chewing on his claws for a couple of moments before placing a hand on your shoulder. "Whoever you bring with you, make sure they're prepared. My father told me legends about that place, where even the Dragons dared not go. I don't know if any of it's true, but you need to be careful." You give him a nod, the worried look on his face easing up some before he sighs. "I'm going to go check on Fickie, see how she's doing."

Once left alone, Snas turns to you with those judging eyes of hers again. "So," She lets that hang there for a bit. "Besides myself, who else are you bringing? We can't exactly just take everybody competent or else the cave might get overrun."

Good point, you need to think about this carefully.

(Alright, so who are you bringing along? Pastebin shows all the named Kobolds currently, but I can also come up with some new ones as well. I won't put a limit on how many you'd like to bring, just know that the more that tag along with you means the less defended your home will be)
>>
>>1245160
Vik Stronglash
Snas Foghunte
Gex Ashbelly
Tix Steelsnout
Stik and Pike

just named kobolds
>>
>>1245160
I don't think we should bring Von himself because he'd be slowing us down, but we can get him to make a heat resistance elixir or something like that? Besides that, i say we bring the twins, Gex, possibly Stubs, and hell, throw a new kobold in there if we want to. I'd prefer if we traveled light on people.
>>
>>1245160
I vote for Snas, the Twins, and Gex. Vik needs to take care of his wife and Tix is good at defending the cave
>>
>>1245229
>>1245240
>>1245263
Looking at this there's a general consensus to take
>Gex
>The Twins

Would ya'll like to take a new Kobold along? I'd be fine if ya'll wanna' come up with a special snowflake yourselves.

Just a bit of input from me, taking every named Kobold with you would be a death sentence to the ones staying at home. It would also slow you down.
>>
>>1245263
>>1245240
I'm seconding both of these. Tix, Vik and Von should be able to keep the tribe secure should we die. Although ... what have they displayed in terms of leadership ability / wisdom?

Us, Snas, Twins, Stubs and Gex should be enough ... right?

Definitely seconding asking Von to load us up with poultices for injuries, elixirs for the heat and anything else that might be handy. Even if it delays our expedition slightly.
Maybe Tix could lead a few of the other kobolds in forging us some good climbing gear and better weapons.
>>
>>1245302
No need for a new named kobold, just take Stubbs. With last thread's throwing ability we might even be able to use him as a grappling hook.
>>
>>1245302
I think it would be fun to have a "jack of all trades" type character. My general idea is an adolescent kobold that's a incredibly loyal to Khumgrin and Vik because of them having marks from the dragons and the like, but is standoffish towards foreign races. I think that would be a fun character to work with.

>>1245321
That list seems just fine, rounding it out with a new kobold if possible. Two thumbs up.
>>
>>1245328
>>1245325
I like your adolescent kobold idea. As long as we take Stubbs too I'm happy with a new guy. Young, loyal, an athletic champ so good for expeditioning but not a lot of combat experience (or any experience outside the tribe really)
>>
>>1245321
why not take a no name kobold with us?
Adolescent kobold with something to prove sounds fun
>>
Okay, so final consensus looks like this
>Gex
>Twins
>Snas
>Ourselves
>Stubbs
>Adolescent Kobold

"Well, Gex for one, the Telepathy spell was pretty useful, and who knows what else they could learn along the way." You notice that Snas sort of rolls her eyes at Gex's name, and you suddenly remember the image of the two of them arguing with each other back when your old home burned to the ground. You wanna' talk about that eventually. "I don't feel comfortable bringing Vik along and leaving Fickie alone, so I figure he'll stay and we can bring the Twins along for the muscle."

"Anyone else?" She asks, already starting to head back into the cave.

"...Stubbs."

"Stubbs?" She looks back at you like you're insane.

"Hey, the little guy helped out a bunch when those Bullywugs rushed us, plus I think he's getting restless. The taste for blood will do that for ya'."

"Fine, let's go inside and get some food, then we've gotta' prepare for tomorrow."
====

The next morning you've all packed up and are ready to head out. Stik and Pike didn't have much to their names aside from their sword and shield, so Tix hooked them up with some backpacks and some rations. Gex is bringing a little of everything, not sure what sort of dangers you might face.

Stubbs decided to be the pack mule of the group, carrying more than three times his own weight in supplies, but it doesn't seem to be slowing him down at all.

Snas is up front with yourself, guiding you along by reading out the map. As you start to exit the swamp entirely, you see some of the Bullywugs watching you from the shadows, one of them being Horgin who just grins at you like the shit eater he is.
===
A few hours later and you find yourself on the crest of a hill, fence posts on either side of you and a well traveled road that looks to lead down to a town close by.

Snas pulls out a small telescope, one of Tix's designs, and looks over the town. "I'm seeing mostly humans, but there's a couple Dwarves and an Elf or two as well. Not sure how they'd react to a group of Kobolds."

"Same as any other human." Stubbs grunts, planting his tushy down on the road and letting the giant backpack down as well. "We'd be better off just going around. Or burnin' the village. I'm good with either."

Before you have time to reply Snas holds up her hand before pointing to Stubbs' backpack. You look and sure enough, you can see some wiggling going on near the top.

Grasping your weapons, you all slowly edge to wards the top of the backpack before Snas flips it open and reveals...

A young Kobold?

"HEY GUYS!" The little one smiles at you, a half eaten piece of crab meat stuffed into its mouth. "We nearly there yet?"

"....Oh boy."
