You pick up the device between two pinched fingers, and look at it with clear confusion. Mentally, you reassure Ai that you're not going to fire at anyone. At the same time, you direct Kichiro and Shikadai to start moving into a different position.

"Heh, I mean, I've never killed someone before. I'm not quite sure how to even use this thing, you know.."

Shozuku grins. "It's great. This thing makes it impersonal, you won't even notice really. Fire and forget, yeah? Just point, and squeeze the trigger."

"Kichiro, when I fire this thing, that's gonna be the signal. Shoot fire upwards and activate the sprinkler system. Shikadai, use your Shadow Possession on Shozuku."

"The trigger? Is that this bit?" You grapple with the sight on the top of it, trying to slide it back. Shozuku shakes his head. "No, no look."

He takes it from you and points at the metal semi-circle which contains the trigger. "This, right here. Squeeze it like this." He points behind him without looking and fires it off several times, hitting a partygoer in the calf. He chucks it back over to you, and you catch it nervously. "W-woah! Alright, hehe, I'll give it a shot." You look over, and nod at Ai. "I hope you don't think less of me for this, dear."

The man who'd just been shot cries out. "My fucking leg! What the fuck!? Something bit me!"

She turns her head away, pouting. You line up the sights, and, squeeze. "O-oh! Woops!" Your hand slips, and you fire it off almost directly upwards.

Kichiro must have just gotten into position. As soon as you fire, a fist in the crowd throws itself upwards and lets a fireball loose. It strikes the sprinkler system, and at once the entire place starts to clear out in fear of a fire. Shozuku stands up, stunned. "What the hell's going on!? You're a plant aren't you, you sonofa-"

His already pale face has the color completely drained from it. His body twitches as he attempts to move, and fails. Both yours and Ai's transformations break in a white puff of smoke, and three green lights on your Jet Sheath fill up over the next several seconds. Shozuku grunts furiously, his eyes nearly bulging out of his head from anger.

Two of the groupees at his side leap up, apparently both Jashinists. Ai leaps over the table and kicks one in the jaw with a spinning kick, and you unleash your blade. A burst of wind blows away all the drugs and money off of the club table, and it sings through the air in a flash. The other club girl throws her hands up, and your blade cleanly slices through them with no resistance. She yells, looking at the two stumps on her hand in shock. Your blade keeps going, and hits the side of Shozuku's throat.

His friend managed to slow the blade enough to prevent decapitation, and Shikadai releases the Shadow Possession at the last moment to prevent harm to himself. Your blade still manages to catch him across the throat, and he goes flying backwards as blood sprays all over you.

He slides across the floor, various clubgoers trampling over him and obscuring him from sight. All around you, the sounds of blades being drawn can be heard. A bottle cracks against the back of your head and sprays liquor on the floor, and you turn around to see the gangly man with the blue mowhawk ready to fight.

You're dazed, but before he can cut you with the broken bottle Ai throws several kunai into his chest and sends him flying back.

Cultists are starting to appear from the crowd, as everyone rushes out of the building. The ones remaining seem to be all enemies. How are you going to handle this? None of your allies can move their more destructive techniques right now, as people are still trying to leave.

You communicate to your allies that you're cancelling False Sound, and starting to use the Temple of Nirvana. They'll be affected by the technique as well, but since they're prepared, they'll be able to use Genjutsu Kai stop themselves from falling asleep.

Going through a number of handsigns, you use the Temple of Nirvana Jutsu. Centering it on the inner circle of the club, you attempt to catch everyone who's remaining, but allow the people blocked up at the exits to stay conscious. The crowd that had trampled Shozuku leaves out the back exit in a rush, and you can spy him healing his throat, laying on the ground. Between glowing green fingers he clutches his neck, blood pouring from between them. His mouth is miming hateful words directed at you, but they're not making any sound. You look right back at him, a torrent of white feathers starting to swirl inside the building.

To the far right, you see Kichiro and Shikadai. Shikamaru's son easily uses Genjutsu Kai to break out of the technique before it can really take effect, but Kichiro slumps over into his arms.

Next to you, Ai remains conscious as well. A large number of the cultists that were charging at your table fall over wordlessly, while others, more skilled in the ways of shinobi, remain conscious. You weren't expecting to get them all, but in two moves, you've silenced the leader and taken out the bulk of his footsoldiers.

Shozuku falls asleep, as he was busy healing his throat. He seems to have slowed the flow of blood considerably, and two higher ranked Jashinists pull him back into the kitchen momentarily. Looking over again, you notice Kichiro is now awake, a bright red handprint across his face from Shikadai slapping him awake.

Looking back, it seems that mostly everyone has gotten out of the club safely. Now all that's left are the rogue ninja under Shozuku's employment.

You had to break False Sound to use another Genjutsu, so you can't communicate mentally anymore. It's not that important though, as Shozuku would likely have simply used False Sound himself to confuse your friends. Just like when you first met him.

How do you want to handle this? It seems there's maybe a dozen Jashinists left.

You throw down bells with wires attached, and start to feed chakra into them. Your paralyzing bells should give you an edge on every enemy present.

Kichiro bursts forward, flames jetting from his feet as he enters the fray with an explosive kick. A cultist who'd been charging directly at you is sent clear across the room, and he lands with a skidding slide. Shikadai unfurls a scroll, and slams the long black casing of his metal fan into the ground.

You'll have to remain still while you prepare the jutsu, but hopefully your allies will have you covered. Out from the kitchen door comes a huge, fat cultist. He has the sides of his hair shaved, and the top is tied back into a ponytail. He roars, coming directly for you with a monstrous charge. He must be over three hundred pounds of fat and muscle, and your butt instinctively clenches from the sound of the thunderous footsteps.

Kichiro leaps forward and locks hands with him, before suddenly getting flipped overhead into the wall. Kichiro hits the ground a second later.

Next, Ai has her hand at him. Before the huge man can complete his charge, she leaps onto his back and stabs a kunai into his left shoulder-blade. She twists, and his path is diverted off to the right.

From the front, a thin Jashinist wearing a black suit leaps forward. He has a kusamagari, a chain and sickle. He thrusts it forward, and the curved blade starts to race towards you. Shikadai bats it back with a wind jutsu, diverting the path long enough for your technique to take effect. Or so, you hoped.

Just behind you, a terrible pain shoots through your calf. Looking down you see the woman who's hands you cut off, crawling along the ground quietly. She uses you for leverage, and swings her legs forward to yank the taut wires out of the ground and disrupt your technique.

You draw your wakizashi, and stab it down through her skull. The damage to your leg is superficial, but your technique was cancelled. Shikadai rushes over to your back, and comments on the recent events.

"Seems like they knew what you were trying to do. Every one of them ignored us and went right for your bells. We might have to change our strategy."

Suddenly, the kitchen door is kicked open. Out steps Shozuku, looking completely fine. Aside from the clear rage on his face.

As the kitchen door is swinging from the kick, you look behind him to see that the real Shozuku is still laying on the ground, clutching his throat and trying to heal it. There's two Jashinists sitting in there with him, as well.

"He's not running away!" you yell.

The clone of Shozuku points at you, and yells back. "Get him!!"

Looking over, you can see Ai crawling all over the fat cultist's body, cutting him with knives and evading the huge, powerful strikes. Kichiro shakes off his disorientation, and stands up.

After a couple handsigns, you use the Great Fireball Jutsu. With the intention of destroying the shadow clone, you send a ball of flame racing across the club. The floor is scorched black as the projectile races towards Shozuku's copy, who goes through a couple handsigns himself. In response, the clone uses the same jutsu!

The two fireballs meet in the center, and a swirl of flame engulfs the space between the two of you. Momentarily, you can't see him.

Ai's body is thrown across the room, but she flips once in the air and lands with relative safety on a table. The fat cultist stomps the ground, and a wall of stone rises up to block a series of fireballs from Kichiro. Your angry squadmate rushes after the man who harmed him, but as he gets closer the wall of earth is suddenly pushed down.

As it falls forward, Kichiro crouches down, and bursts upwards with explosive force. He uses jets of flame from his feet to propel an explosive uppercut right through the wall, but a powerful slap from the fat cultist strikes him in the stomach as he recovers and sends him crashing to your feet.

Reaching down, you help your friend up and he tears away from your grasp to go rushing at the fat man again. Ai tangles with two cultists, having activated her Four Witches Jutsu, she fights them both with kunai simultaneously.

A second fireball crashes through the flames, probably from Shozuku. You jump backwards to avoid, but Shikadai remains in place. Going through a couple handsigns, he uses the Wind Bullet Jutsu to pierce the fireball several times before leaping to the side, narrowly avoiding the blast. As Fire beats Wind, the attack wasn't blocked, but instead his own projectiles were absorbed in flame.

The flaming wind bullets hit the liquor and explode, quickly starting a hot fire all along the kitchen wall as you had intended.

Through the flames, a whip of water shoots forward and wraps around Shikadai's ankle, quickly pulling him towards the flames where your own projectile had met the clone's.

To the left, you hear the whooshing sound of a sickle and chain rushing towards your head. What do you want to do?

Drawing your short, curved blade, you swing it upwards and deflect the chained sickle. It's quickly yanked back to it's owner, but you'll have a few moments to act before you have to engage with him. Drawing a fistful of senbon, you launch them in a fan spread towards the flames.

Shozuku can't react to what he can't see. Just as you'd hoped, you seem to manage to strike him. Or at least you guess so, considering the water whip pulling Shikadai towards the flames is dissipated. At once, he leaps up and swings his huge fan in an arc. The wide wall of wind pushes all the flames forward, accelerating them as they tear through the wall of the kitchen. The sprinkler system keeps them from coming into the club's dance floor, but the wall separating the two falls apart.

The real Shozuku can be seen sitting on his rear now, still holding a hand to his throat. The two cultists with him are pulling him back, away from the flames. They're getting backed up against a wall now though. You think you can hear one of them yell. "We should retreat!"

Though Shozuku can't speak, he strikes the sign for Shadow Clone Jutsu again and makes a single clone. The clone starts to go through various seals as well. From it's mouth comes a torrent of water bullets, beating away the flames.

As you're watching, the sound of rapidly approaching footsteps catches your attention. To the rear, the sickle wielding cultist rushes again. He leaps through the air and flips forward before sending his weapon, though this time it's coated with blue electricity. If you try to simply deflect it, you'll get shocked. The sound of Kichiro and the fat cultist fighting can still be heard, explosive strikes back to back. With a quick glance you can see Ai still engaged in battle with the enemy, though she's slit the throat of one. He's still fighting despite his grievous wound, though he'll be unable to move from bloodloss soon enough.

He spins around and takes a knee, using his clan's famous jutsu to easily capture the man and remove him from combat while he's being held. Your other allies are busy fighting cultists in the main room, and you leap through the burning kitchen window to enter Shozuku's space.

Rushing forward, you flick a single senbon at the clone. It dodges out of the way by narrowly moving it's head, and comes sprinting after you with it's drawn katana. Pressing a button, you start to charge your weapon's explosive properties. With one swing, you deflect his sword stroke before sheathing your own. The clone hefts it's weapon overhead, and swings it down on you with both arms. In a normal situation, he'd be able to completely overpower you. In this case, your technological tool outstrips his talent. With a blast of wind, you knock the sword from his hand and slash right through the midsection of the clone. The two cultists look shocked, and take a single step backwards.

The real Shozuku is still siting on the ground, though he's been going through handsigns since you entered the room.

He stands up suddenly, and grabs the back of his ally. There's a green glow pulsing from his hand, but it's totally different from the benevolent glow of a healing jutsu. Instead, it shines with a harsh neon light. "Chemical Style: Human Bomb Technique!"

The cultist's body shudders once, and he wordlessly croaks from some sort of inner pain. You skid your sprint to a stop, and look on in confusion. Shozuku grabs him by the pants and shirt, and throws the stunned man towards you. Reflexively, you take a leap back. Shozuku's neck still has a slight wound on it, but for the large part it seems the bleeding has stopped entirely.

Your doppleganger holds out his fingers, and snaps once. Sparks fly from his fingertips, and the cultist who was thrown at you explodes with a sudden force that sends you flying back out of the room. The weakened burning wall is completely destroyed, and the entire building groans from a lack of support on it's left side.

The concussive force stuns you, your ears ringing from the noise. For a few moments you roll around on the ground, your head thumping in agony. Looking up, you note that you're standing next to Shikadai, who looks at you with surprise. "What the hell was that!?"

"Don't let him touch you." you say, rubbing your face and standing up. "He did something. He turned his own ally into a bomb with a jutsu. All he had to do was put his hand on his back. He could kill us without even striking if we're not careful.."

You yell out, and tell Kichiro and Ai the same thing. Looking down at Shikadai, you shake your head. "We've gotta do something, quick! He's coming, and there's way too many bodies in here he can use as bombs. What do we do!?"

Shikadai looks stunned. "How should I know!? We're in a city! If we go outside, he'll just use civilians! Listen, this club is toast! I think it's fair to say we got some shitty info! No one expected their leader to be here."

From the explosion, various cultists laying on the ground are starting to stand up. They're all weak ones who'd been unable to cancel your Genjutsu, but they'll only be more of a problem from here on out. To the right, you see that Kichiro has activated the 1st of the gates to plow through the fat man's body, goring him with a series of punches. He rushes over to you in a flash, his body steaming. "You want me to kick it up to the third gate!? There's no way he'll be able to take me on!"

You shake your head. "No, it's too risky! With his immortal body, he's willing to take a hit just to touch you. That's all he's gotta do, too!"

Ai steps behind the sickle wielding cultist, her kunai pressed to his neck. Shikadai releases his Shadow Possession, and she stabs his brain stem to kill him instantly. She starts to walk over. "What's our plan of action?"

Shikadai stands up next to you, and the four of you look on as Shozuku walks through the flames a tentative cultist at his side. Many more start to get up, some injured from the various jutsu used during this battle. A vampire and his army of the dead.

Your brain is scanning through all the possible answers, but each one is calling too much risk to your allies. Without their help, you don't think you'll be able to land a hit on him. But putting their lives in mortal danger just to potentially injure him..

Sweat rolls down your face, and you wipe away at it, clearing some of the blood and grime off.

You shake your head. "The whole city could get wiped out if we keep pressing this. He wants us to stay, he wants us to fight."

Shozuku, across the room, laughs explosively. "That's right, Takeshi! You can't fight me head on with these so called morals you've got, can you!?"

Soaked in his ally's blood, shirtless, Shozuku drops his sword and slaps his knees. "Go on! Run! Keep running forever, huh!? Keep failing to kill me, and I'll keep killing people! Let's dance like this forever, alright!?"

He looks even more crazed than before, the joy on his face completely contrary to everything that he is. A total deranged monster. Reluctantly, Shikadai and Kichiro turn and run for the doors of the building. You and Ai stand there with clenched fists, looking at each other briefly. The two of you draw out tags with explosive tags, and let them go at the corners of the building. Shozuku keeps chuckling. "You think I care that this place is gone?! This was so much fun, it was totally worth it!"

He claps high above his head, as if encouraging even more destruction. As he's distracted with his joy, Ai yells out.

His clapping comes to a stop, and his head tilts down and glares. "It's you then, is it? I knew you looked like her, but I didn't really think it was my sister. Beautiful. Well, tell me, if I'm a monster, don't you regret being just a woman? Being so weak, unable to protect yourself!?" His words are spit out like venom, and she visibly shrinks back. You know that Shozuku's first kill was entirely to stop the abuse against him and his sister. You grab her arm and pull her back, sprinting out of the building, hear the sound of a roaring liquid dragon chasing you.

Ai turns and runs with you, and the explosions of your bombs go off just as he fires a dragon of acid in your direction. The building crumbles, but he was intending to destroy it totally anyways. Various cultists bursts from the windows, and Danpei swoops down and races along your group as you exit the city limits and sprint for safety. Acid pours out into the streets, a consuming wave of pain. At the same time, Mist shinobi arrive and start using jutsu of their own to direct the flow away from other buildings and minimize the damage.

Looking over, you think Ai might have tears running along her face. It's difficult to tell with all the blood, sweat, and dirt. You keep running, and behind you the sounds explosions and screams persist. Shozuku is probably out of chakra however, as the sounds of violence don't last long enough to continue but for a few minutes as you run.

You keep running until you're deep into the wilderness of the Mist, and Kichiro builds a fire for all of you. The four of you sit around the campfire, drained and stunned.

Shikadai sighs. "I can't believe you've fought that guy several times, Takeshi."

You nod, still in shock somewhat. "Yeah. He seems to really hate me for that."

Kichiro chuckles. "What an ego. I don't get how someone that nutty can get so strong."

Ai stares into the fire. "It's because he's crazy that he's strong."

Your leg hurts slightly from being bitten, but other than that you don't have any real injuries. Of course, you've still got a massive headache ever since that first explosion. "I can heal you a little bit in the morning, but rest is the only thing that's gonna help you I think. I was more meaning what you guys thought, though."

Ai curls her knees forward, and rests her chin on them. "I believe there were a number of things that we could have done better. Though, I'm not exactly sure what. When I think about it, being more aggressive would have meant putting people's lives in danger, but we could have possibly defeated him as well.."

You shake your head. "Don't start thinking like that, Ai. He's completely bananas. We might have to hold back at times, but we're still human for it. If you go down his path, you can't ever come back. Overall, I think we did the best we could in many ways. We infiltrated the place, got the civilians out, and managed to shut down one of his recruitment centers. At the very least he won't be getting troops from this town anymore."

Shikadai grumbles. "All that for just one place. Still, you're not wrong. I think as things go on, he's just getting more unhinged. Wanting to place the world in total chaos doesn't make it a safer place for yourself at all, so, the more he completes his goals the more he exposes himself at the same time."

Taking a bite of a ration, you nod. "He's getting more powerful, though. He didn't have a jutsu like that any other time I fought him. The older he gets, he's just gonna keep getting exponentially stronger. Making more twisted jutsu. Without the boon of a god, I can't imagine he'd have made it this far."

Kichiro sits up. "Yeah, but he's got one. He's immortal. He can let waves of acid loose on the battlefield. He knows how to use Shadow Clones. He's fast, and strong, with good stamina. He's good enough at Genjutsu and healing to protect himself pretty damn well. He's smart, but obsessively aggressive. Still, not afraid to run away when the chips are down and he needs to survive. Crazy unpredictable.."

Kichiro throws a stone into the fire. "I hate this fucking guy. That's how I feel about it. Next time, I'm just gonna go full blast the moment I see him!"

Kichiro blinks. "Anti-what?"

You grin. "It means I'm the complete opposite of him, despite the fact we look alike. You know, he's actually sort of easy to manipulate in light of all this information. I don't think I'd have to be all that much better to beat him. He's really lucky, we almost had him right at the start..."

Shikadai shrugs. "No use wondering about what coulda been. We should head in."

You nod. "Right. Let's sleep in shifts, though. Between Jashinists and Rebels, there's no saying who could try to sneak up on us."

Ai smiles. "Yeah. Probably a good idea."

Well, the backstory would mostly be something you make yourself. I'd be putting you in the role of a fresh genin, probably 12 as is traditional because one the one hand the whole child soldier vibe would be quite important, while on the other hand 6 year olds fighting is just silly.

It probably wouldn't be a very happy quest. I've been doing a little thinking about how a ninja clan would work in an era of constant warfare. It seems to me that we're looking at very high casualty rates, and large families to compensate for that. To account for this I'm probably not going to include much plot armour, so expect to see your friends and family getting offed now and then, depending on how you roll.

I'm thinking of going a fair bit more down the ninjas-are-amoral-mercenaries line. You'll be sent off on lots of questionable tasks, basically often murdering or threatening people who may well be more or less innocent, that sort of thing. Of course, how you react to being given those tasks is up to you. I'm going to decrease the frequency of ninja fights, basically they will be somewhat rare but very, very dangerous (my reasoning: clans would demand a massive amount of money to knowingly fight another clan. Therefore ninja battles will happen either on these rare occasions, or more often you may simply be unaware that the other side hired shinobi). I'll also power up non-ninjas pretty substantially so that even mooks pose a threat in great even numbers. Elite soldiers (either samurai or whatever) will be very dangerous, and not all that uncommon - your advantage over them will be ninja trickery, not fighting strength.

I am, I'll have to check the archives but it didn't have much use. You said if we tried to make any handsigns or use jutsu it would break. Not sure if it would answer but I'm guessing Shunshin would probably break it too. But i suppose for travel it could be useful for slipping through very specific defenses of chakra detection if we suspected they were going to be used. If we could improve on it to have less and less limitations that would be awesome.

Thinking about it now. Open to suggestions. I was initially just going to just put you into a clan, no choice involved - after all, you don't choose that IRL. But on the other hand some player choice is nice, for something with such far-reaching consequences. I guess several pregenerated options would be better - but I want to build chargen into the story as far as possible, I'd like to find a way to do it without an obvious "select your clan" thing. Your intial skills for example are going to be determined by your first roll using those skills. Probably I'll begin with a genin test which involves you demonstrating your skills, rolling on each test to see how well you do and so how high your starting skill is. Hopefully I'll also be able to get by without using your name in the first thread, letting anons decide that to vote on in the beginning of thread 2.

Current options for a main character are an otaku hikkimori who assassinates people over the internet so he can steal their limited edition merchandise, a little girl who escaped from a government experimental hospital and now pretends to be a magical girl and fights sewer monsters and cybernetic junkies to survive, or a corporate superspy/triple agent who simultaneously works for three rival megacorps.

Cloud Leaf and Sand are all contributing to a relief effort for the constant damage. The Mist has become a Rogue Ninja central thanks to the destabilization, as well as the primary country the Jashinists are using as a base now. The lack of control means things are much more lawless outside the big cities.

The Stone isn't offering relief in the form of money, or accepting refugees, but they are selling their shinobi as mercenaries often, for cheaper prices than normal.

As for anyone attempting to steal secrets, artifacts like the Seven Swords have been heavily locked down. The Mist is keeping everything under high security in their village, especially considering the possibility of multiple types of double agents approaching.

The issue is mostly seen just as an issue for the Mist. The refugees are negligible and other countries are happy to assist in many ways, but constant guerilla destruction and the occasional wipe-outs of towns make things constantly difficult. It's not a civil war particularly but more or less an explosion of disorder and terrorism. Rebels against the government, Rogue ninja, and Jashinists playing both.

Thus, the real issue is Jashinists abducting people en masse, serial murder breaking out in every part of the world. It's primarily relegated to the Cloud, where there are many mountains and caverns, and the Mist, which is destabilized now. Let that sink in for a second everyone. "Beat you". He doesn't care about his pride forcing a final destination confrontation anymore, he just wants us dead at his feet however he can make it happen. Are you ready for what comes next, for Shozoku willing to get the drop on us in any way possible? It begins, /qst/, and it begins now.

We need a water clones and water prison Jutsu combo. If we can get a water clone to just touch him once, we can have it utilize itself to become a water prison, leaving him helpless. This can either outright kill by drowning, or can stall him for a very long time as long as we have water clones sustain it, and if a water source is nearby, having them sustain it may be more cost effective than sustaining it ourselves, not to mention we would have both hands to use other jutsu, like temple of nirvana which could make him pass out while in the prison, ensuring a quick drowning. Water prison, if memory serves, is a B rank that would be plausible to learn with say, two days study. Mini can tell me how close that is to correct.

Another thing is we should get some tactical glasses. With all of the dirt, blood, acid, water lightning smoke and dust that get's thrown around every battle having something to keep our eyes protected and thus maintaining our focus and accuracy during intense moments could be a key factor, not to mention it would help us look stylish , which we desperately need.
