It is the Year of Our Lord 1120. You are Victor Reis, a Knight-Captain of the Order of Brothers of the German House of Saint Mary in Frankfurt (The Teutonic Order.) You had come to the Holy Land after a request for aid from your brothers in the newly-formed Templar order, and traveled with them to a mountain pass Northeast of Acre, and joining a Saracen horde in battle there, suddenly found yourself in another world, along with your Teuton brothers and Templar allies.

Previously, on Fantasy Crusader Quest....

You buried your fallen bretheren, ate a meal that the villagers made for you, and dreamed of Archangel Gabriel, who revealed several important things to you.

You lie awake, leaning against the tree. That dream you had... it shook you. An Archangel coming to you, while you were asleep, giving you a message from the LORD? Revealing truths that shake your faith? Was it just a dream, or did you really see an Angel? Could it have been a demon, trying to get you to become a heretic?

All of this and more goes through your head, as you stare straight ahead into the grass, sitting cross-legged. The first traces of dawn are coming, as evidenced by the gradual change of the night sky, with its' unfamiliar stars, from black to a deep purple.

And yet, since you woke from that dream, you couldn't sleep. You tried, several times, but you just couldn't go to sleep, and kept waking up not long after. So, you eventually gave up, and sat leaning against the tree. Cellica's nearby. At least she's managing to get some sleep.

Sighing, and rubbing your tired eyes, you stand up, stretching. As long as you're awake, you might as well do something.

You don't feel like waking up anyone at this hour, so you decide to go on a walk.

Treading softly past Cellica's sleeping form, you walk out into the village center, ambling without a purpose. No one is up, yet, with the sole exception of an eccentric-looking old man, with a straw hat and eyepatch, smoking from a pipe.

Nodding to him briefly, you stroll past him, following the path to the moor, listening to the forest around you. The birds chirping, the underbrush rustling from wind and any animals that might be running past you, and the distant sound of wind howling across the moor all reach your ears.

Absorbing it all, you walk for about an hour and a half, before you finally reach the forest's edge. Staring out onto the moor, you focus on the sky, not looking at the black corpses of the wolves on the muddy ground.

Instead, you watch something much more beautiful.

The sunrise.

Casting a golden glow across the few clouds that there are, it helps you relax, calming your thoughts. Your focus wanders back to your dream, and what you'll do about it.

You'll need evidence. Maybe you'll ask Cellica to talk with you and Father MacAodhagain, ask her if the name of their 'first god' is who the dream-Gabriel says it is. You don't know, and that's not really the first thing on your mind right now. Right now, it's just you, the moor, and the sunrise.

Watching it for a few minutes, taking it all in, you stroll back to the village, thinking about what it would all mean if the dream were true. First off, it would mean that the LORD has made other worlds, and that-

"Oof!"

You run into a certain sleepy Elf, who is trudging along the path, yawning. And by that, you mean you literally walk into her, almost knocking her over.

"H- *yawn* hey Victor...."

>"Cellica? Are you okay?"
>"What are you doing out here?"

"Cellica? Are you okay? What are you doing out here?"

The ginger Elf yawns again. "I heard you get up... it woke me up. Where... where did you go?"

Gesturing back at the sunrise with your thumb, you say, "I was taking a walk because I didn't want to wake anyone up. Funny how that works."

Cellica nods sleepily. "Don't worry, I'm... I'm good. I wake up at this time a lot..."

Raising an eyebrow, you simply shake your head. "Anyways, let's get back to the village."

She gives you a thumbs up. "Sounds.... sounds ama- amaz- good."

Walking back, you make sure she doesn't drift off into a bush, pass out in the dirt, or anything like that. Is she really that tired? You suppose that being a light sleeper and being exhausted at the same time probably doesn't help her.

When you reach the village, you look around for Father Donaidh MacAodhagain, and you see the stout monk chopping wood for the breakfast fires. Walking up to him, you give him a nod of greeting, and say,

>"Father, I have something important to discuss with you and Cellica. Please, come with me."

"Father, I have something to discuss with you. Cellica, go back to sleep, please." She looks up at you, frowns, and then shrugs.

"Oh okay, alright, make sure to wake me before we go..."

Nodding, you say, "I'll want to talk to you later once you're more conscious. Thank you for coming out and checking on me."

She gives you a thumbs up and a brief smile before stumbling over to where she was sleeping on the grass, and tripping, landing facefirst on the grass. Wincing, you turn to Father MacAodhagain, who looks at Cellica with a slightly bemused expression.

"Quite silly, isn't she?"

Shrugging, you say, "Well, she is who she is. So, I guess."

Chuckling, Father MacAodhagain turns back to his woodchopping. "So, before you ask me anything, I want to ask you something, first. I have come to know several of the villagers and their families in the short time we've been here. I'd like to know if I can have your permission to stay here, and teach them of our LORD. And, well, my second request is optional, but can I have four of your knights stay here, with me? They'd protect both me and the village, and tiny villages like this can disappear, if you're not careful."

>"Sure, stay here and preach. I'll take the map back to St. Herard."
>"No, you need to come back with us. Can't leave you among heathen, even some well-meaning as these."

And.....

>"Sure, take four knights. I'll send their squires back as soon as possible."
>"I'm sorry, I can't spare the manpower. We'll be back soon, though."

You nod.

"Sure, stay here and preach, I'll take the map back to Saint Herard. I'll let you keep four knights with you, as well. We'll send their squires back as soon as possible."

Smiling, Father MacAodhagain gives you a slight bow, before returning to his woodchopping.

"I thank you, Sir Reis, not many Crusaders would be willing to part with their men for any reason, sadly. I learned this lesson on Ithaca, when the monastery we were staying at was ravaged by Saracen raiders. Luckily, a nearby warband fought them off, but not a one was willing to stay, to protect us while we rebuilt."

He chops a piece of wood, and then another. "So! What is it you would discuss with me, Sir Victor?"

You mull your words over, carefully. Should you be frank with Father MacAodhagain? He is an honest fellow, and quite Christlike. However, you worry that he'll think you a heretic and tell St. Herard, out of love. He's the type to get you in trouble because he cares about you, much like your cousin, from back home.

"Father... I had a dream of the Archangel Gabriel."

His eyes shoot up, and he stops cutting, embedding the axe in the wood block.

"Oh? Come, let us sit, and then continue."

Making your way to a bench in front of a house, you sit down, and start speaking.

"Well... I started off in a church. A cathedral chapel, actually. I was praying. And then, next to me, I see a man, who starts talking to me, loudly, and incredibly informally...

---------------------------------

Father MacAodhagain looks at you calmly, now that your story's done, with an even, unreadable expression.

"So. The LORD is here, but there are other gods? There is a way home, but even an Archangel wouldn't recommend it? And it is not heretical to marry the natives?" Stroking his chin, he hums, thinking.

"Nothing appears to be against the Bible, except the 'other gods' bit. But...." He hums some more. "We wouldn't technically be going against the Bible, unless we actually worshiped them. 'No gods before me, and all.'"

You react with surprise.

"I honestly thought you'd react with more... vehement disapproval of the notion."

MacAodhagain rolls his eyes. "Oh, Victor. I'm not Italian, remember?"

You chuckle. "Clever."

The priest beside you looks at you seriously. "Although, I'd not tell many people of what you've dreamed, much less the Templars. Few among your German brothers would understand, and even fewer among the Templars."

>"Surely, I can tell Marcus, and my fellow Knight-Captains?"

You frown. "Surely, Father, I can tell my Brother Marcus, and my fellow Knight-Captains?"

Father MacAodhagain stands up. "I'd advise against it, unless you have proof. There might not be proper spies in the camp, but there are ears everywhere, and, well, the walls are literally canvas."

You don't know if you necessarily agree with that. You can trust your brothers. Although he is probably right about the Italians.

"So, it's to just be me and you, eh?"

MacAodhagain looks at you quizzically. "And the Saint. He's the only one you can trust one hundred percent, and he's our leader. I doubt he'd even bat an eye at this news, he'd be so nonchalant about it."

Shrugging, you say, "I suppose so. And the Saint." Standing up, and smoothing your trousers, you pat MacAodhagain on the back. "Thanks for the advice, Father. I needed it."

He smiles. "Of course, Brother." Picking up the axe, and then pausing, he asks, "So when are you departing, again?"

You mull this over.

What do you say?

"Between breakfast and noon, so their meals can settle."

MacAodhagain nods. "A good middle road. I'll bid you farewell then, it seems. Anyways," he hefts the axe, "carry on, then."

You nod, and give him a little wave as you walk away. Now, to talk to Cellica about the 'gods'. Maybe then you can confirm the dream was a real vision from something, if not Gabriel the Archangel.

Walking over to where she sleeps on the grass under the tree, you crouch next to her, balancing on the balls of your feet. You nudge her shoulder gently.

"Cellica. Hey. Cellica."

She simply moans, mumbles something unintelligible, and weakly waves a hand in your general direction, which gently taps your forehead.

"Cellica. Celly. C'mon. Wake up."

Despite your mild annoyance, you sigh, and keep nudging her.

"Cellica, c'mon, I've got to talk to you."

Mumbling once more, and turning to you, she lets out a little, cracking an eye open.

"... Victor?"

She stretches, yawning again. "Wha- wha tim 'sit?" She sits up, looking at you, clothes and hair rumpled.

Sighing, you stand up. "Can you come with me, somewhere? I need to ask you a few things."

Shrugging blithely, she says, "M'kay," with the uncaring demeanor of someone who's really, really tired.

Holding out a hand for her to take, you pull her up, leading her off a short distance into the woods, where you're still visible from the village, (so there are no questions about your vows,) but far away enough so no one else can hear.

"So... What do you wanna know?"

"I'd like for you to tell me of your gods."

Cellica tilts her head, confused. "My... gods?" She thinks for a little bit. "Well, there's Hantia, Goddess Of The Hearth, Lana, Goddess Of Fertility, Idar, God Of Night, and Omir, God Of Pleasure. Those are the ones my people worship, I dunno about other people."

"So, what are your people like? What's your culture?"

"Hmm... well, we live in the Mornaur woods, and we don't usually leave... So I guess we're... insular, I think the word is? Um... we have a big community, and almost the entire center of the deeper woods is a giant town...." She ponders something before continuing. "We don't really grow much food, we hunt most of it... we like reading? We've got this really big library. I got lost in it once! I stayed there for a couple days, reading books!"

"We don't really have families, but the children usually live with the father. Because people who mate usually only live together for a couple decades, they have enough time to raise their child, and then move onto someone new. Although..." She looks thoughtful. "My father never remarried after mother died. I think they intended to stay together forever. I think that's really romantic, staying with one person! I think it's more... special, that way!"

You say, "Wait, so, earlier, that was because you really have no concept of marriage?" Cellica looks at you, but then connects the dots.

"Oh- oh! Marriage is when mates stay together forever? Huh.... I like that!"

Thinking about the idea a bit, and blushing, Cellica says, "M-moving on, let's talk more about my people. We value confidence, politeness, and intelligence."

Her face falls. "You can see why they didn't like me...."

Looking at you, she says, "A-anyways... that's all I can say, really..."

Patting her shoulder, you say, "If you don't mind, I'd like to ask, who's Aeä the Worldshaper?"

She bites her lip, saying, "Uh, I think he was the god that made the world, and made the other gods to rule it? Why?"

You freeze. "Is he a triune?"

"A what?"

"Three-in-one."

"Oh, yeah! He is usually depicted as three symbols! An old man, a lion/lamb, and an open flame!"

You sigh, rubbing your temples.

"Then this confirms it. Cellica, the god I serve is the same as Aeä, just under a different name, AND I'm not from this world."

Cellica's jaw drops, and she backs away like you're a crazy man.

"Wh-what? What do you mean??"

You look to her, resigned.

"I mean exactly what I said. I got brought here to this world by a sorcerer, and I serve Aeä under a different name. I'm from a land called Germany, born to a Prince. After my vow to the Teuton Order is completed, upon my marriage or my father's death, I would legally have become a Duke, and ruled over Frankfurt."

Cellica stammers, looking extremely nervous around you. "S-so you'd have been royalty?"

"Yeah..." You look at her. "Why are you so nervous, now?"

"W-well, you're an alien, right? A-and you're royalty. I was t-taught that human royalty would only want to enslave me an- and do terrible things to me..." She flinches at your attempt to put a hand on her shoulder, and you sigh.

"Cellica." Your tone gets her to look into your eyes, which are serious.

"Y-yes?"

"I would never try and hurt you, Cellica. I promise, I'm not bad royalty, and neither is my father."

Somewhat calmed by your words, she says, "Th-that sounds like something a bad royal would say to get my trust..."

Rolling your eyes somewhat, you say, "If I had wanted to hurt you, wouldn't I have done it by now?"

Cellica looks down, shifting uncomfortably. "W-well, you c-could be trying to l-lure me away from from Mornaur...."

You look at her gently. "Do I look like the kind of person who would do that, Cellica?"

"N-no..."

You place a hand on her shoulder, and feel her tremble briefly, before she takes a deep breath.

"I... I guess I can trust you... I've just heard horror stories, you know?"

You nod. "It's understandable. But... for you to be so scared... what have you heard about human nobility on this world?"

Cellica shivers again, trembling, as she thinks about what she heard.

"W-well, they will take you, enslave you, rape you, torture you until you almost die, make you beg for it, and then release you into their city where you will most likely get raped to death."

.......

Holy shit.

>"Where are these fucks and where can I shove my sword up their asses?"
>"These people need to die. I will do it."
>(Punch a tree.) "DAMMIT! These people give nobility a bad name."

Chill guys, this is from the a biased perspective of someone who has never left the forest ever and heard it from a probably exaggerated tale from traders.

We need to see for ourselves before declaring a genocide

B-but Min, the DEUS VULT!
Just imagine, we could even RETAKE JERUSALEM!
>>
>>1218476
Yeah, but I imagined Victor would still be angry about it. It may not be as bad as Cellica thinks, but that doesn't mean she's completely wrong. The rumors have to come from somewhere. That was my logic, anyway.

Clenching and unclenching your fist, you start breathing faster, and your eyes narrow with anger. Letting go of Cellica's shoulder, so you don't hurt her, you ask,

"Where- who- how-?"

You are unable to speak coherently for a few seconds. You almost punch a tree. Cellica just stands there, frightened by this sudden outburst.

Calming down, you take some halting, gasping breaths, and look Cellica in the eyes, making her flinch because of how much fury is found within.

"They will die. On my blade, if necessary."

Cellica simply nods, and you ask, "Where are they?"

Nervous, Cellica shrinks back. "Um... to the south, I think. They're the Empire of Lightning. Imperium Fulminata."

Coldly, you state, "Then I shall tell my leader the news, and we shall purge them."

Cellica squirms under your frosty gaze, before saying, "Um... V-Victor? You're kinda scaring me..."

>"I'm sorry, Cellica, but I'm filled with the wrath of the LORD."
>"I'm sorry. I didn't mean to frighten you."
>"FUCK THOSE HEATHEN SCUM."

This is the true face of the righteous fury of a Knight Teuton. Let it inspire in you not fear for yourself, but pity for your enemies.

WE WILL TAKE JERUSALEM
>>

You sigh.

"I'm... sorry. I didn't mean to frighten you. It's just... I'm more angry than I ever thought possible." You shake your head. "An entire nation's worth of nobility that are degenerate scum? We need to destroy them."

Cellica nods, timidly.

"Well.... it's time for breakfast. Do you want to eat?"

You flash a weary grin. "Yeah, sure. Let's go."

---------------------------------------------

Breakfast is good, and you set off not too long after, your men back up at their full capability. Saying farewell to Father MacAodhagain and the other four men is difficult, but you manage. Riding away from the village, through the forest, you're glad that you can return in relative peace.

The danger is past, and you can now go to the camp unmolested. It will be good to see Edgar and Marcus again. How are they doing, you wonder? Has Edgar shown the strength he clearly possesses? Has Marcus gone off to explore, or is he following orders and guarding the camp? He must be bored out of his mind.

The ride is quiet, yet of good cheer. Your men are happy they're going to see their comrades again, and Cellica came to a silent agreement with you, to not bring up the Imperium Fulminata. It's much more pleasant when you stop riding at nightfall, to make camp.

Settling into campfire groups, which are visibly smaller, your men converse quietly, while one or two stand watch.

You converse with Cellica over something inane, before falling asleep, across the fire from her.

You wake up not an hour later with a knife pressed to your throat.

Its' owner, a scantily clad, female, ashen-skinned elf, that looks quite like Wyrran.

Her voice comes from above you, husky and flirtatious.

"Well well, look what we have here. You belong to me, now."
