You are HOLLY, a Titan Pilot for the Frontier Militia!

Currently, you were heading off with one of the IMC mutineers, Hess, to repair a damaged power conduit. Hopefully, that would power up a planetary defense cannon capable of chasing off the IMC fleet blockading the planet.

Behind you, you could see the IMC assault on the mutineer base continuing in earnest. More orbital munitions and drop pods were being sent down, and innumerable tracers crisscrossed the ground the below. You wondered how everybody was doing...

"FOCUS, DORK. WE'VE GOT A JOB TO DO." BLL's voice jolts you back to attention. "YOU'RE SUPPOSED TO BE THE ONE FOCUSING ON THE DRIVING."

"Right, right." You sigh. "Yo, Hess, are we there yet?"

"Almost!" Your companion laughs, her heavy Titan plodding along in front of you and BLL before pausing. "Actually..."

You see Hess' cockpit pop open and Hess herself leaps out, a grenade launcher and her jump kit at the ready.

"There's a mountain path up there we can navigate with our jump kits!" She insists, pointing upwards. "We can flank whatever defenses the enemy has set up!"

"What about the Titans?" You ask.

"They can link up with us on autopilot!" She assures you.

"SOUNDS PRETTY SKETCHY." BLL rumbles.

"All right, play nice with Hess' Titan, BLL.' You say as you pop your own cockpit open.

"THIS IS A BAD IDEA." BLL cautions. "I YOU DIE EVERYBODY ELSE WILL THINK IT'S MY FAULT."

"Ah, don't worry. Besides, I can't just let Hess go off on her own!" You grin as you power up your jump kit. "See ya soon!"

You engage your jump kit, jumping in a zigzag pattern through the trees until you could gain enough height to get a handhold on the cliff face leading further up the mountain. Hess is already well ahead of you, and you hate to admit it, but her jump kit technique looked to be almost flawless, wall running across the cliff wall with a grace and confidence you only saw in Tarin before coming to a stop on a distant ledge to give her jump kit a chance to recharge.

You note that Hess had taken a far more complicated route up to the ledge, doing a dangerous wall run that required her to weave past a number of rocks and outcroppings that would have blocked her path. To your right, you could see a series of ledges you could just mantle over with the help of your own jump kit. Not as fast, but less technically complex.

"Well come on!" Hess taunts. "Let's see what the Militia has to offer!"

You opt to take the safer route, using your jump kit in short bursts to leapfrog up the series of ledges. It wasn't as fancy or flashy, but it ensured that you didn't accidentally trip or overuse your jump kit and suffer a mess death by falling. You reach the ledge where Hess is waiting for you, and she gives you a judging eye.

"Hmmmm, a bit boring, but practical enough, I suppose." Hess harrumphs. "I'm sure Captain Hessler would have commended you for that."

"But you won't." You raise an eyebrow.

"Ha, I always appreciate a girl willing to take big risks to win big." Hess grins with predatory teeth.

"Yeah yeah, can we get this moving?" You groan.

"Of course, of course!" Hess turns her single eye back down the path. Below, you caught sight of a small IMC detachment standing guard outside a squat concrete bunker entrance leading into the mountain. There was a squad of IMC troopers with a few Spectres. Some of them were on patrol positions, but others were organized into two teams, manning heavy anti-Titan weapons.

You could also see two Titans, a Northstar and Tone, standing guard at the door. Their stiff movements seemed to indicate they weren't being piloted at the moment, but you had no visual on their Pilots.

"As expected, they not prepared for an attack from this direction at all!" Hess giggles, pulling out a mean looking grenade launcher. "I'll let you have first pick!"

"WE ARE IN POSITION." BLL reports. "HOWEVER, WE CAN'T GET CLOSER WITHOUT BEGIN SPOTTED, SO YOU'LL BE ON YOUR OWN FOR A FEW SECONDS."

"A few?" You frown. "Can you be more specific?"

"PROBABLY THIRTY TO FORTY."

"That's not a few!" You complain.

Why don't your Titans engage first to draw the enemies' attention before you hit them from another direction? They are somewhat more resistant to bullets than you are.

Naturally, this also means that whoever the pilots of the Northstar and Tone are will make dashes for their Titans, which will allow you to pick them out and eliminate them more easily.

"I'll tag the Pilots." You tell her.

"Then I'll handle the grunts! I don't want unworthy vermin like them so much as scratching my Titan's paint!" Hess arms her grenade launcher. "Let's go!"

You and Hess leap forward, sliding down mountain slope, keeping your momentum up from steady bursts from your jump kits. At the same time, BLL and Hess' Titan break cover, charging out from the treeline. Immediately, the Grunts' attention is drawn to their approach as they swing their heavy weapons around.

Hess is already on them, one final burst from her jump kit sends her soaring through the air, giving her more than enough elevation to drop grenades down on the IMC positions, scattering the grunts and Spectres.

Meanwhile, the Titans are already on the move. The Tone rumbles forward, and you can see its Pilot sprinting towards it at full speed, getting ready to make a leap into its cockpit. The Northstar engages its jump jets to gain altitude, and you catch sight of a grapple line hooking onto it. The Northstar's Pilot was clearly looking to link up with his Titan in midair.

You decide to try and intercept the Tone pilot first. He was hoofing it on the ground and easier to get to, in your opinion. You get your rifle ready, but you're still rather far, so you didn't have a guaranteed kill shot, and you knew that the moment you fired, his Tone would be right on your ass.

Maybe you could use a combination of your grapple and jump kit to close the distance, but then that would just create of the problem of getting closer to an enemy Titan...

You immediately shut off your jump kit, sliding to stop as you brace your feet against a pair of large and solid rocks to anchor yourself. If you were going to have trouble getting to that Pilot, why don't you just bring him to you?

You straighten your left arm out as you take aim with your grapple, trying to draw a bead on the enemy Pilot...

Your arm is pushed back from the recoils as your grapple gun fires, launching your grapple into the air and towards your target. Fortunately, your aim is straight and true, your grapple hooking on securely to the enemy pilot's vest. Brace against the rocks, you grunt as you pull on the grapple, reeling the Pilot in like a caught fish. With your other hand, you one hand your assault rifle and unload the entire magazine. This close, there was no way you could miss.

The enemy IMC pilot is riddled full of holes, and you duck as his corpse sails over your head, still carried by the momentum of your grapple.

"Yes!" You fist pump.

"Heads up, Militia, you've got incoming!" Hess warns, her audio constantly interrupted by gunfire and explosions.

You look up and see that the Northstar Pilot has reached his Titan, and the airborne Titan was now turning its attention to you.

Shit.

"HOLLY, I AM MAKING MY WAY TO YOUR POSITION NOW." BLL rumbles. "TRY NOT TO DIE HORRIBLY."

Easier said than done as the Northstar's optic flashes red as it glares at you.

Your grapple flies out at the Northstar, but the enemy already sees through your ploy. With one swing of a robotic arm, the Northstar bats away your grapple like an annoying fly. Your stomach then drops when you see it deploying its missiles pods, no doubt locking right on you. Caught in the open like this, there was no way you could dodge that-

Suddenly your vision is obscured by BLL's back as he slams down between you and the Northstar. He had to move so fast, he had not time to deploy any shields our countermeasures, instead opting to take all of the enemy Titan's barrage. Missiles slam into BLL's hull, exploding and gouging holes and tears into BLL's armor.

Fortunately, Legions were built tough, and BLL remains in piece, but it's obvious he's taken serious damage.

"OW." BLL grunts, opening his cockpit to allow you to take shelter inside.

"Th-thanks for the save, BLL." You manage to squeak, your heart still beating like a drum.

"THE THINGS I DO FOR DORKS." BLL grumbles as he readies his vulcan cannon. The Northstar, its load spent, decides to back off for the moment.

"Damage report?"

"PRIMARY SYSTEMS STILL FUNCTIONAL, BUT ARMOR IS SHOT TO SHIT." BLL informs you. "I CAN'T TAKE ANOTHER HIT LIKE THAT."

"Hey, Militia!" Hess calls out as her Titan brawls with the Tone. "Looks like you need some help! Would you like a spare shield battery?"

"Fine, I'll take it!" You grunt. Now wasn't the time to let pride get in the way!

BLL trudges forward in an effort to avoid the railgun shots the Northstar was raining down. Fortunately, the rate of fire on that thing was pretty slow, giving BLL plenty of opportunity to juke its aim. Hess's Titan meanwhile strikes the Tone with a heavy shield bash, forcing it back and stunning it temporarily as it tries to reevaluate its surroundings.

"Catch!" Hess' Titan pulls out a shield battery and tosses to you. BLL snatches it out of the air, ejects the spent battery, and slots the fresh one in.

Immediately, your shield gauge lights back up with fresh power. You'd be able to take a few more hits from that Northstar now.

However, the Northstar, realizing that the odds were no longer in his favor and clearly running low on engine propellant, turns and boosts for the treeline in an obvious attempt to break contact and escape.

Unfortunately, the Northstar Pilot is pretty damn good, you have to admit. With his remaining propellant, he manages to jink and juke, evading your fire as he falls to the ground.

"FUCK." BLL curses as the Northstar manages to land into the treeline without so much as a scratch, all of the bullets that you had fired into the air falling useless to the ground around the forest like rain. "THAT WAS PRETTY EMBARRASSING."

Well, you could always try to pursue the Northstar into the forest. You couldn't afford a fast and nimble Titan like that to run around unchecked. Then again, you didn't want to get drawn away too far from your main objective...

"Damnit!" You curse. You might have taken out that Tone pilot, but you let the Northstar get away, robbing you of the chance to nab another Titan kill. "We're turning back, BLL. Gotta remember the mission."

"I DIDN'T FEEL LIKE EXERCISING ANYWAYS." BLL sighs as he turns around and trudges back to the facility.

There, you see Hess standing atop the smoking ruin of the Tone, gazing into the empty cockpit with a bit of a disappointed look on her face. The Tone itself had basically been cleaved apart by the sword Hess' Titan was toting.

"I figured it was too easy." Hess sighs. "Guess you got the Pilot, huh?"

"Yeah." You nod as you jump out of BLL. Manged to grapple him before he could get in."

"Good show I suppose, though it would've been nice to take out that Northstar, too!" Hess sighs. "Well, we managed to secure the area, at least. Hurry up and fix that conduit. We'll seal the door when we finish so they won't be able to get back in and sabotage it again."

"Right!" You job off for the blast doors. BLL moves in as well, using his massive strength to pry the doors open just enough for you both to get through.

"Um, there's no hostiles in this place, right?" You look inside the darkened interior, barely lit by your helmet mounted flashlight.

"I'VE ALREADY SCANNED THE INTERIOR. NO SIGNS OF ANY UNUSUAL ACTIVITY." BLL assures you. He activates his own mounted floodlights, further illuminating the area. "THERE MIGHT BE LOTS OF SPIDERS, THOUGH."

"Right..." You sigh as you step forward.

Fortunately, it looked as if there wasn't any significant damage done to the conduit. You were afraid they would have just blown up or shot up all the equipment, but all they did was disconnect the main power coupling, which was a simple matter to fix.

"Well, BLL, you know what to do." You grin smugly.

"ONLY IF I GET OVERTIME FOR THIS." BLL grumbles as he picks up one end of the massive power cable and drags it to the other disconnected end. "I'M A TITAN, NOT AN ELECTRICAL WORKER."

"Construction was your original purpose, you know." You chuckle. "Just going back to your roots!"

"ROOTS SUCK." BLL whines as he connects the cables.

As expected, the entire chamber lights up and the hum of energy and working machinery begins to pick up.

"Hey Tarin, we got the conduit working!" You report over the radio with a grin.

"Holly, Hess, you've got major incoming!" Tarin warns. "The IMC are falling back and regrouping towards your position!"

Huh, guess they realized what was going on.

You immediately start dashing for the door, BLL following close behind.

When the two of you reach the blast door, you can see that Hess and her Titan had been busy. You see a pair of crashed IMC gunships. Obviously the vanguards.

"Oh, hey!" Hess waves. "You got everything fixed?"

"Yeah." You nod as you hit the now powered door control. The might blast doors rumble and whine as they slide back into the closed position. "We're gonna have to seal this door before we leave. Maybe bloody some IMC noses in the process."
