Stage 149: The Yako's Tail.

You run your fingers through the soft silk of Yuuhi's tail, and murmur to her, “You know that I am always here if you want to talk about it, right Yuuchi?” You don't look at her or expect an answer, you just pet her soft, warm tail and take comfort in the presence of your devoted, loving, strange samurai. “You know I'm the last person who will say anything about what you've done in your past.”

She shifts slightly and you look toward her, and feel her fingertip against your forehead.

It's hot. It's really hot.

You're locked inside a shed, chained to the frame while sitting down, your arms spread wide. It's not yet the middle of summer, but it is awfully close, and the locked door of the shed and the lack of any ventilation makes it even more swelteringly hot than it has any right to be. You don't have the energy to be sick from heat, and while you aren't dizzy or stroked out yet, you aren't sweating very much at all anymore which is a really bad sign.

The reason you're locked inside the shed is because you've been accused of a capital offense, and unfortunately that capital offense consists of “being Ainu in a Japanese village.” It's a very difficult offense to overcome, since you're pretty much going to be Ainu as long as you live. You ave a hard time adapting to Japanese culture for a number of reasons, the worst of which is that your father was a black forest fox, and your brain is pretty hardwired into thinking and being yourself.

You're not a bad fox, per se. Sure, you are homeless since your mother passed away, and you don't have any ordinary siblings, and your dad was a stupid fox so he never stayed with your mom. You might steal an occasional vegetable or melon, sometimes a carrot, but mostly you eat a lot of bugs, grubs, tubers, frogs, fish, and the occasional rabbit when you get lucky. Not mushrooms though. Never mushrooms. Anyways, it's not the best life, but it's your life and you're going to miss it when they chop your head off.

Depending on whether or not you can make your escape while exhausted, starving, dehydrated, and chained to the wall.

“I don't care if she's just a kid, she's one of them! There's not real people anyways!”

“We're still going to wait on the shaman. Do you want a ghost hanging around your home?”

The next few things said are mumbles and softer, and you're not really interest in what they're saying anyways, except that someone's going to look in on you later, some priestess. Twisting your hands you can feel the manacles pressing along the bones in your wrists, but you know it is a single length of chain. The screws are too tight to be undone by hand and you're too weak anyways at the moment. But that doesn't mean you can't escape them. It'll just hurt a lot and make a mess.

You've made messes before though.

>Asahi can make only one choice, but her choices are as informed as they can be. Her fourth choice is always an offer to use her inborn fox powers, but they are unilaterally unpleasant powers from her father's legacy.

>As always, write-ins take precedence.

[] Use leverage and determination to break your wrist and maybe deglove your bad hand to escape.
[] Wait patiently and try and conserve your strength so you can attempt to convince the shaman to let you free, even though you are a nogitsune-child.
[] Pray to whatever kami might actually listen to the child of a lowlife murdering thieving bastard of a yako for succor.
[] Ignite the shed. Even if it burns down you'll at least die in ghost fire and be gone instead of stuck in yomi.

Poor Yuuhi, though. This isn't shaping up to be the fun kind of story.
>>
[X] Use leverage and determination to break your wrist and maybe deglove your bad hand to escape.

You heal pretty well; you presume it's because you're half-youkai. That makes something ordinarily unthinkable a reasonable solution for you where it might not be with a human. On the other hand you've seen humans attempt pretty desperate things even though they die easier than you can, when they're desperate enough.

You rub your left wrist, your thumb sliding over the prominent bone along the underside and upper part of the outer bone, the one that is keeping the manacle from sliding off. You might not break it; you might just have to dislocate your wrist or something. It might tear off the skin on your hand too. But then again, you're looking at having your head chopped off, so it might be something you can live with.

Wrapping the chain around your right wrist and in your hand a couple of times you turn to face the wall. You take several deep breaths and grip your left shoulder with your right hand while holding onto the chain. Then you pull. And pull. And stand against the wall and pull harder. Really hard. You even sweat a little more, you try that hard. You feel the manacle pulling on the bone and the metal cutting into your pale skin, but you collapse when your right arm gives and the sudden slack drops you onto your back.

You lie there for a moment, and then you hear someone on the outside of the shed taking the bar off the door. Blinking your yes at the intrusion of bright white light, you try and make out the intruder. She is relatively short, and very slender, but her boobs are ridiculously large for her frame. She looks down at you, her dark eyes moving quickly as her ears lay back; her stupidly long tail waving back and forth. Her hair is so long it drags on the cobblesones. “Hey, knock that off. The priestess is coming soon, and then you can be executed after your last rites.” She has an annoying voice.

[] Cough at her, since that about the only sound you can make right now.
[] Sit back up and glare at the Amaterasu-worshiping kitsune-child meaningfully.
[] Try and ask her why she cares what you do since you're slated for execution anyways.
[] Curse her with a rude gesture.

[X] Sit back up and glare at the Amaterasu-worshiping kitsune-child meaningfully.

You sit up and turn yourself around slowly, trembling from the previous moment's exertion. Your wrist aches terribly but you can't really do anything about it, and it just wouldn't be good to show this pretty kitsune-born that you are any weaker than....well, you're pretty weak anyways so that doesn't matter either, you guess. You place both hands in your lap and just glare daggers at the fresh faced, squeaky clean, and officious sounding boobie girl.

She waves her hand dismissively at you. “Yeah, yeah, whatever. You're nobody important, just a thieving Ainu fox that onee-sama is too good to look at.”

“We're not supposed to be mean to the prisoner, Heika-senpai,” a breathless and even younger voice says from behind the boobie girl.

“I'm not, just telling her the facts.” Heika looks at you and sniffs. “It smells in here anyways.” you only have time enough to glare harder at her before she walks off, and a tiny little kitsune-born waddles to the entrance of the shed.

She's obviously the boobie girl's little sister, and she's trying to carry a huge wooden bucket of water. This she sets gingerly inside the door, before hopping up into the shed and carefully lifting the bucket with a lot of effort. The scent of the river water overwhelms just about everything, and it takes all your stupendous effort not to stare. Salivating is out of the question. The sword she's carrying on her back is an older style broad-sword, rather than a katana, and their style of dress is clearly partly ceremonial.

Probably some religious group, here to 'purify' the execution so you can't haunt these people.

She blinks owlishly at you and smiles uncertainly. “I got you water to drink and bathe with. Sorry, onee-I mean, senpai is very preoccupied.

[] Rude. The word is rude, and maybe cruel.
[] Say nothing yet, just deal with whatever humiliation comes next.
[] Shake your head – you're nothing if not used to the petty cruelties of the Japanese.
[] Possess her and use her to steal the keys to the manacles.

[X] Possess her and use her to steal the keys to the manacles.

Closing your eyes, you focus your mind inward past the pain, the hunger, and the overwhelming thirst. You hate this, you don't want to do this, but it might be the only chance you have. When you open them again, everything is grey and misty, except for the young kitsune-girl in front of you, whose aura is mostly pure, the edges barely tinged with the darkness of bloodshed. She is earnest and honest, and her desire to make you comfortable is something others disapprove of, but it is a kindness born of knowing that it is her sacred duty. Even if it is a black fox she is helping.

That makes it a little easier to stomach leaping out of your body and into hers.

You-she-we stagger, teeth and claws ripping and stabbing and biting, and it is over in seconds. The breeze that lifted her hair and clothing fades, as does the light of your spiritual battle. You place her spirit deep inside her body, gently hiding her away rather than displacing her. Glancing around with her wide, relatively innocent eyes, your gaze settles upon your body on the floor of the shed, unconscious and soul-less. But not unguarded – unlike humans, your spirit is perfectly capable of occupying your otherwise soul-less body to keep other things for taking your place.

You move the bucket closer – it's heavy, the poor thing really worked hard – and take a cloth from your....um, her pocket and gently clean your face and wrist. You don't have too terribly long, but you do take the time to take a few mouthfuls of water and administer them to your body the only way you can without choking yourself. It's a little disconcerting to do this to yourself, but you need at least some water.

Once that is taken care of and your – HER – face cleaned, you have to decide how you're going to go about this.

[] Find the boobie girl – she was probably given the key by the farm's owner.
[] Fine the farm's owner. He most likely kept the key for himself, since these are girls he's dealing with.
[] Take stock of the situation outside first – you might have access to her memories, but that doesn't mean you can act the part well.
[] Necromancy time – in for copper, in for gold.

[X] Take stock of the situation outside first – you might have access to her memories, but that doesn't mean you can act the part well.

Though you're in a terrible hurry, you take a few minutes and look around outside. You weren't in any condition to do so when they first dragged you here beaten into unconsciousness, so it's really your first time seeing the place.

It seems to be a fairly nice house on a hillside. No fences, and a single road that comes from the hidden front of the building to wind down the hillside and through the forest to the village a mile or so below. There's a nice garden off to the left, and large shade tree nearby. You see several men arguing about something, and two other kitsune-born, another white one and two golden ones. Boobie girl is being talked to by the taller golden one, while the other white one nods emphatically; the other golden one seems aloof to them, and everyone is studiously ignoring her as she stands beneath the tree. Boobie girl looks unimpressed of course.

It shouldn't be too difficult to move around the side of the house – if you can avoid attracting attention in the first place. You do notice that a couple of the men still have the pitchforks they brought when they caught you, and the trio of Amaterasu-worshipers are all armed, but the girl by the tree (and incidentally the one most likely to see you sneaking away from the shed at the moment) is not.

You quickly pull back and ginger walk over to your body. Searching in your pockets for the shards of bone, you pray to some generous kami they haven't fallen out or been taken away. By some miracle you find the pieces of some animal's skull and gather them into your hand and look at them....knowing that this could be trouble for the young kitsune you are possessing.

[] Pocket them and make for the house. There is most likely a spare key of some kind there.
[] Leave them, you might need them later, and they're the last you have; then house time.
[] Take them with you as a last resort, then make for the loner kitsune – if she's the priestess you might be able to talk some sense into her.
[] Necromancy time – it's only a small stain on the kitsune-born's soul, after all, and you'll make amends later if you survive.

[X] Necromancy time – it's only a small stain on the kitsune-born's soul, after all, and you'll make amends later if you survive.

Lifting the bone shards up you inhale and change your breath, before blowing on the few remaining fragments of the smashed skull. They instantly disintegrate, a blue-green flame appearing in your hand in their place. It's not even much of a ghost, barely even a spirit, but you imprint the desire you have on it anyways.

You also make sure that it tries to stay high and hopefully out of sight.

It rises slowly and floats out the door, and you sneak carefully to the door to watch. As you feared, it is definitely floating towards the group of kitsune-born, and worse, hovering over boobie girl – er, Heika. Heika-senpai. You look at the memories the girl – Nanako – has of Heika-senpai, and to your dismay, she's one of those overachieving, self-absorbed, egotistical girls whose actual skills and talents really do make her ass powerful and clever as she thinks she is. Poor Nanako has a hero worship complex about the sister who barely deigns to notice her existence, and doesn't really even acknowledge her.

“Nanako-chan, did the prisoner release that ghost-fire?”

It takes every ounce of self control not to leap out of the body you've possessed in fright. Turning, you see the owner of the cheerful voice, the golden kitsune-born who had been talking with Heika-senpai. She's slightly bent over, her hands on her knees as she looks at you eye to eye. “Is everything okay?” she's less concerned than she is gently indulging Nanako; she's fairly sure everything is just fine and is just taking care of the youngest member of the priestess' personal servants and guards.

[] Yes, Kimura-senpai, everything is fine....!
[] The yako-child collapsed, Kimura-senpai, but onee – uh, Heika-senpai is awfully busy.
[] You mean that little fire over there? I didn't know what it was, if just jumped out of the Ainu girl's mouth!

Poor girl, though.

I know she wasn't really being kind, because being nice to people you're about to execute for nothing isn't really better, but I doubt she'll learn to be kind and tolerant of youkai-children in the future, given how we're using her.
>>

True. But I'm not sure it's all that in character to care about it that much. Self-preservation is strong motivation, and we don't know if Yuuhi would have cared too much before this either.
>>
[X] The yako-child collapsed, Kimura-senpai, but onee – uh, Heika-senpai is awfully busy.

You turn and point at the collapsed figure of your body; looking as worried as you possibly can, which seems to be very worried as Kimura-senpai's expression becomes worried also. “The yako-girl collapsed, Kimura-senpai....I wasn't sure what to do....and onee-sama....ah, sorry, Heika-senpai, is really really busy!” You step aside as Kimura sweeps into the room, setting her sword aside as she kneels next to your supine form.

She checks your pulse first, then your meridians, and relaxes a little. As she turns back to you – or rather, back to Nanako, because you absolutely cannot keep thinking of yourself as the wrong person, she looks confused. But her confusion doesn't stem from you, it is something behind you that she seems confused by.

The golden kitsune-child who has been standing under the tree places the talisman against Nanako's forehead before you have the chance to react, the unfamiliar body's reflexes not tuned to your own. Her apologetic smile is not enough to soften the blow of being wrenched from the body you are wearing and forced back into your own. But before you do so, you catch a glimpse of the massive, powerful spirit that is pretending to be a young kitsune-born, her tails shimmering and waving hypnotically as she casts you back to your condemned body.

You blink, startled, your head filled with cotton and your temples throbbing as your tail and ears twitch and your hands and feet drum the wooden floor of the shed. You can vaguely hear Kimura speaking, and the soft voice of the stranger saying something, but it is the words in your mind that you understand.

(You will understand in time, little one.)

You barely manage a groan, your throat aching and your body slowly returning to life as your soul settles back into place. You roll over and get up on all fours....only to be tumbled back onto your side by a swift and punishing kick to your ribs. You curl up into fetal position, your slitted eyes seeing hazy blue and white, and hearing some vague accusations and vitriol from Heika's distant voice.

Kimura grabs Heika and pulls her away angrily, but Heika turns on her and starts yelling. The actual kitsune is gone, leaving Kimura to clean up her mess as she cradles the little white fox-child in one arm and glares at the s\pissed off boobies. The boobies kick over the water bucket onto you, bruising your forehead and soaking you in tepid water before the door is slammed shut and barred against you once more.

A trickle of warmth runs down between your eyes and you wipe the blood away absently as you sit up, soaking wet, cooler, and shaken to the core by what you've experienced.

[] Fuck it – curl up in the water and sleep for what little time you have left.
[] You've done worse than lick water from floors which are at least clean – you need every tiny bit of strength.
[] Give in to what appears to be the fate the kami have in store for you. You won't give them tears though – you have none left.

[X] You've done worse than lick water from floors which are at least clean – you need every tiny bit of strength.

Trembling, you slowly sit up, your head throbbing and your side aching. Exploring carefully you determine that your ribs aren't broken, or even bruised – you'd thank the kami for small favors, but you're pretty sure they're not on your side – and just the muscle and flesh is injured. You look at the water on the floorboards, and sigh.

Ignoring that annoying little voice at the back of your head which so far has done nothing but bring you trouble, you commence lapping at the puddles. The floors are clean at least, and you manage to get enough water that you're throat isn't burning and hunger is the worst of your pains. You're cooler too, your wet clothing soothing in the heat of the shed. You sigh and settle back against the wall to wait for your strength to return a little more.

Waking with a start you look up as the door opens and the tall kitsune-born looks in at you. “Can you stand?” she asks softly, her expression carefully blank. Her eyes give her concern away, and it isn't just the concern for whether or not she'll have to carry you. You can't help but notice the new addition to her wardrobe – a thin red belt of woven silk robe with folded papers attached to it. No more possessions for you, apparently.

[X] Ask about Nanako.

“How is Nanako?” Your first words seem to make her wary, but she answers anyways, much to your relief.

“She will be fine. You didn't do any lasting harm, and the priestess said she'll recover totally in a few days.

You look down at the floor, placing your hand on the solid wood, still damp. You hear voices, at least a dozen, maybe more out there. Probably as many of the villagers as could manage the hike and dared to leave their nets and boats. “That's good. She's a good girl.”

Kimura's expression softens a little. “Yes she is.” she walks over and offers you a length of white cloth. A bandage for your forehead. You give her a look, but she doesn't pull away or take it back. With a sigh you dab the flakes of blood from your forehead and wrap it slowly, tying the bandage to the side, instead of behind your head where a spirit might grab it.

She takes off the manacles, and you look at her again. She smiles faintly. “I'm faster than Nanako; please don't make me hurt you more. Heika-senpai is bad enough. We're not all like that.”

You sigh and start walking. “You're still going to let them execute me.” She doesn't replay to that, but you didn't expect one.

About thirty or forty people are there, along with the priestess – a human woman dressed in red and white and sitting on a makeshift platform where she is burning many sticks of incense – and her warrior nuns. Heika is pointedly ignoring you, but you can smell her bitter anger and hate from all the way over here. She shifts her sword slightly as Kimura guides you to stand before the priestess. The priestess looks at you, disgust barely masked, while the townspeople mutter and glare.

Weirdly, you hear hoof beats in the distance.

[X] Just let them say whatever they want.

The priestess starts murmuring quiet prayers, while the village head-man speaks loudly. “The Emperor decreed that no Ainu should be allowed to live, spying for the enemies across the sea. The priestess will say prayers to prevent her ghost from harming us.” The Japanese murmur and nod, and the kitsune-born tries to take your wrist.

Yanking your hand away you look toward Heika. “Too afraid to fight a starving girl? Why am I not surprised? You deserve what happens to you for killing us.” You know that some of the Ainu become evil curses after they die unfairly. You probably won't, but it's better that way.

This time the young woman kicks your knees out from under you and grabs your hair, pulling hard and keeping you from falling over while you grab her wrist in both of your hands. “I hope your kami punish you for this...” It sounds trite, even hopeless, but it's all you have left really.

The priestess' prayers cease and she speaks in a loud, clear voice. “Your spirit will rest in Yomi, your body burned and your ashes placed in a proper grave. Your body will be treated with respect, even if-”

“Oh, here it. This must be the place.” The dry, soft voice cuts through the air like a blade, and the Japanese murmur and shift, turning to look at the person speaking. Even the girl holding onto your hair lets go to look at the newcomer. Boobies looks, but she isn't as distracted as her friend, and the priestess is absolutely livid.

We haven't tried enough. Defeatism won't leat to victory, and relying on mysterious stranger is downright suicidal.

we have to get that weapon, either to try escaping again or try to demonstrate to mysterious stranger we're worth not dying here.
>>
>>1193121
Either way its someone who's going to take her away. And this would explain why she had so much respect for Kiku's predecessor.
>>1193126
No trying to escape in a crowd of people who want to kill us is stupid. Boobie fox is stronger than us and didn't like us before we possessed her sister and for some reason marred her soul by using necromancy. Then Kyuubi-san bitch slapped us out of the little fox's body. Also we have a broken wrist from our first escape attempt. If we couldn't escape from the shed we're not escaping at all unless someone helps us.
>>
>>1193147
Yeah it doesn't really seem like "doing things' is the point of this side-story.

Or it only feels that way because we've miraculously chosen the wrong option every time.

[X] Look at the speaker.

You turn your head looking at the man who had no qualms about interrupting a spiritualist in the midst of her duties. Lanky, tall, and with the failed beginning of a mustache, his skin is pale and his hair long and white, and weirdly unbound. His simple kimono belies the fact that he's wealthy enough to be riding a full grown horse, but that isn't even the most bizarre thing. He left arm is tucked into his robes, outside of his sleeve, while his other rubs his chin thoughtfully as he looks over the property through his spectacles.

Three young women are walking with him as he rides into the impromptu courtyard, and if anything they just throw more confusion into the worlds. Two are clearly part Japanese, but the pain girl carrying a sheathed nodachi in her arms is part oni, her skin a soft grey color and her horns silvery in color. She's nearly as thin as the man is, and she looks at the gathering with wide eyes of crimson. Another is part youkai, her ears and two tails striped and yet pale, almost like a confused nue that was all tiger instead of snake, boar and tiger. Her blue eyes twinkle with amusement and she skips into the crowd of Japanese heedless of the potential danger or the sanctity of the rite.

The the last one is just shocking. Or awesome. Awesomely shocking? She's wearing armor. And a daisho! And she is holding herself like she is actually a samurai in this horse-riding peasant's service! Most shocking of all, she's Ainu! A Fire dragonette Ainu!

“Really, this place? All I see a re a bunch of ignorant Japanese holding a stupid ceremony about killing people.” Her voice is high pitched and youthful, and her tail lashes as she smirks, her eyes wandering over Heika and Kimura.

“If one were to destroy all the ignorant people in the world, there wouldn't be too many left...” She looks up at the man hopefully. “...and I am not particularly interested in depopulating the world today, Ko-chan.”

“Aww. You go too easy on them, Master.” He looks down at her, and the samurai blushes, looking contrite. “Sorry Master!” She almost sounds sincere, which makes him sigh.

The oni girl edges closer to the horse and looks up at the man worriedly, while the nekomata-girl wanders through the crowd slowly, peering here and there. Several people start to stand up, and she moves away from their locations immediately, unconcerned by the apparent threat.

The priestess, on the other hand, is pissed. She stands up and boobies move over to stand closer to her, as does another white haired kitsune-born. “How dare you come to this sanctified ground....”

He looks down at her with some surprise. “I own it. I'm the lord of these estates.” You carefully slip Kimura's kaiken out of her obi and slip it under your tunic carefully. She shifts, having felt something but nothing more. Her hand comes down on your shoulder and you wince, because it really does hurt. “I've just ridden west from my palace on the advice of my seer.” The cat girl is moving more quickly through the crowd, her tails twitching and her nose wriggling, even as the people start standing up, confused and annoyed by this apparent stranger and his even stranger acting entourage.

[X] Try and figure out what the tiger-girl is looking for; she's definitely moving with purpose.

While the wicked voice inside your head calls him an idiot and a liar, you keep a close eye on the twin-tailed tiger girl. She is moving more quickly and switching back and forth. When the people around her start getting frisky, she quickly changes tactics, discarding her poncho and scarf for them to grab onto uselessly as she darts between legs and sneaks between people. When you pick up on the pattern of her movements your ears flatten in alarm and your tail lashes worriedly.

Kimura speaks up. “Lord Amako doesn't leave his palace at all – where did you steal the horse from?” The oni places one hand on the man's leg, and seems to shrink down into herself, looking up at her master fearfully (which is probably one of the three most bizarre things you have ever seen in your life; and oni-child, fearful. “Dismount at once.”

Heika steps over protect her priestess, and draws her sword, while the nue-girl sudden dives into the crowd and vanishes, must to their consternation. The girl called 'Ko' looks at Heika and then at Kimura with a bored expression. The other kitsune girl draws her sword as well, moving away from the priestess in a slow flanking maneuver. Ko looks, if it's possible, even more bored.

You crane your head, looking for the strange feline or nekomata-child or nue-child, until Kimura tightens your grip and makes you yelp in pain. Ko's eyes fix on Kimura and narrow dangerously. She slowly lays her fingertips upon the handle of her katana.

“Well, I don't generally carry papers with me, and I really haven't considered the idea of having my face plastered every where,” he comments mildly, while the priestess grows more and more angry. He strokes the oni-girls hair and she relaxes....and ever spirit-child in the area, as well as the priestess and two of the older village folk stiffen in shock as he reassures the young girl with a hand that seems carved of bone. No, not bone – coral.

“Found her!” You squeal as you are grabbed about the waist and lifted up high, causing almost everyone in the courtyard to focus on you. The nue-blooded spirit-child appeared out of nowhere, you're certain and has lifted you up high, much to your chagrin. You kick and scramble and push at the strong hands and the feline-tainted woman lowers you, grinning like a madwoman. “Hehehehe....!” She sets you on your feet and leans close, brushing the tip of her nose against yours and making you blush.

YOU!” the priestess exclaims, her eyes wide and her expression twisted by anger.

“Oh good, thank you Nue-Nue. I was wondering what in Yomi she was talking about....” The peasant actually smiles at you and you turn and look at him in confusion.

Kimura, however, draws her sword and rounds on your and the cat girl.

[X] No time for niceties – knee Kimura in the crotch and drag the strange girl away from the swords.

Kimura moves to draw cut the nue-child even as you whip out her slender dagger and step back; you can see that she's shocked you managed to bring the blade out in time to force her to turn her sword before it impacts the small dagger, protecting the edge of her katana from the damage that striking the smaller weapon would cause. At the same time you hear the would-be-lord from the ocean say, “....Ko.” Of course that wasn't the point – the point is that she was watching your dagger and not the knee you slam into her basically unprotected crux, smashing her soft places against her pelvic bone with enough force to double her over, even if she doesn't drop the sword.

The blur that moves past you passes by the other golden haired kitsune-born, and she crumples. Heika manages to block the Fire dragonette's sword twice, even as the nue-child picks you up and leaps over to the horse; Heika's last act of defiance is to growl, “Stupid Ainu, I'm-” before her guts pull her diaphragm out of place and she wheezes her last.

The actual peasants and other entourage members start to scatter, while the priestess is quickly bundled away by her remaining helpers. Ko flicks blood off her blade as the oni-girl approaches you. The man on the horse looks down at you calmly. “I'm impressed – have you ever even held a sword before?”

Kimura coughs up sickening bile, and you pulls the strange tiger-like girl away quickly, just in time to see Ko slam her hand into the back of Kimura's neck, knocking her unconscious.

You look up at him then at the kaiken. You're not entirely sorry that they died, but you feel sorry for Nanako having to cope with it. “....no....”

“You could have fooled me,” says the fire dragonette as she walks over to rejoin her Master. “You have a natural talent. That's rare.”

You look at her, and frown, then you look up at the stranger who looks down at you with a gentle smile. “Who are you people?”

“It's a long story, little one. But if you're willing....I'll happily tell you all about it. After we get you fed and watered.”

“And bathed. Please. Please, Master.” You give the nue-girl a dirty look and 'Ko' snickers.

The oni-girl speaks softly. “Please come.” You look at her, and you blink, your cheeks heating up from the look in her eyes.

“Uh....yes?”

“That's the spirit,” says the man on horseback as he offers you his hand.

Actually, I had to rewrite. you did NOT kill Kimura (you did if you only drew the knife) but you did knee her really hard in the crotch. So she threw up from the sickening pain.

Thanks XS this was great. Pity I could not stay awake for all of it. Nue girl seems like she would like Ryukusa.

Oh, it's worse for men. At least an order of magnitude so.

I was surprised by at least three of the ways anon chose to vote; and the turnaround of 'defend with the knife' and 'kick her in the crotch' was troublesome, but it was the better of the options available.

As to >>1192883 being on the rails was the entire point. Kami Stuff is literally the rails the gods put you on, enforced by their will. Kyubi was there specifically to keep Asahi on those rails so she could meet Zen, Nue-Nue, and Koshino Keiko, and become Yuuhi. The oni-chick is someone Ryukusa may meet later, and it is entirely possible that she'll get to meet Nue-Nue. - if she hasn't already.
