You are HOLLY, a Titan Pilot for the Frontier Militia!

Currently, you were on the bridge of the Vengeance, with the ship just having dropped out of FTL near the world of Murata. Of course, the ship had dropped on the edge of the system to survey the area first. You immediately saw Tarin carefully examining the sensor readouts on a nearby screen.

"As you can see, there appears to be signs of a fleet engagement." Captain Davos points out. "Sensors are picking up a thick cloud of metallic debris, and there are at least four cruiser level ships holding geostationary orbit over the planet."

You take a closer look, and you could see small dots plunging down through the atmosphere.

"Drop pods?" You ask.

"A mix of drop pods and munitions, so we assume there's some sort of battle occurring on the surface." Captain Davos clarifies and then points elsewhere. "We're also picking up traces of engine exhaust moving around the planet's moon. We suspect that there's another group of ships hiding on the dark side."

"Sounds like the mutineers' ships taking shelter?" Ramirez frowns.

"Either way, there's no way the Vengeance can take on that many IMC ships by herself." Captain Davos grumbles. "The best I'll be able to do is perform an orbital drop on the planet's surface or the moon."

Tarin looks on silently, as if trying to come to a decision. On the one hand, linking up with the mutineers' fleet would go a long way to breaking the IMC blockade around the planet. However, it looked like the mutineers still trapped on the planet were in desperate need of assistance...

"We'll drop on the planet. We might have a better chance to convince these mutineers to join the Militia if we bail them out." Tarin declares.

"Some good ol' ground pounding action, then!" Ramirez grins.

"I'll try to get the ship as close to the base as possible without alerting their sensors." Captain Davos grunts. "You'll have to go in on a shallow trajectory, though, so don't expect a pinpoint landing."

"Not our first hot drop." Tarin then turns to you. "They teach you shallow drops in the sims?"

"Y-yes, ma'am." You nod quickly.

"Good, then we don't have to babysit you." Tarin nods. "Get suited up and get into your Titans. We'll be dropping the moment the ship is in position."

The three of you dash to the hangar as warning sirens blare and lights flash to indicate battle stations. The regular crew quickly makes way for you as you sprint through the halls. You're only barely able to suit up and strap into BLL's cockpit when Captain Davos' voice booms over comms.

"We're in position, but it looks like the IMC may have noticed out presence. If you're going to drop, you'll have to do it now."

"Engage Titanfall!" Tarin confirms.

And just like that, you and BLL are encased in a drop pod and violently launched out of the Vengeance. You grip BLL's control sticks tightly as the entire Titan shakes from the turbulence and atmospheric reentry.

"PLEASE DON'T BARF OR PEE YOURSELF. IT'LL MAKE ME SMELL WEIRD." BLL rumbles.

"Shut... up...!" You grunt, trying not to pass out from the negative g-forces.

Finally, the shaking stops as the pod punches through the upper atmosphere and begins its freefall descent. The heat shield is automatically blown off, allowing the pod's sensors to start scanning for the drop zone.

"DROP ZONES DESIGNATED. PLEASE PICK ONE." BLL instructs.

The first and most obvious drop zone is in the middle of an open field. Nice and safe, but it was rather far from the base, so it would take a while to hoof it over. There was a forest clearing that was much closer, but it was a narrower target to hit, with lots of trees that could obstruct you.

Or... you could go all the way and just drop straight into the base, risks be damned.

You quickly hit the coordinates to drop at the clearing.

"OH YOU GOT TO BE KIDDING ME." BLL groans.

"Suck it up." You tease as you brace for impact.

The pod streaks through the sky for a few more seconds before a combination of maneuvering rockets and stabilizing fins attempt to course correct. At this point, all you could do was sit tight and hope nothing malfunctioned...

Fortunately, nothing goes wrong, as the moment the pod reaches the edge of the clearing, explosive bolts tear the craft open and the sides peel away like flower petals, finally exposing BLL to the alien atmosphere. BLL's programming then kicks in and wastes no time, his built in thrusters flaring to slow his fall before slamming down into the dirt. Thanks to the shock absorbers built into his legs, you barely feel a thing.

A scant second later, you see Tarin's Ronin touch down in a similar fashion, sending dirt and dust flying everywhere as it lands.

However, you don't see Ramirez. You quickly check your IFF sensor, and note that he's several kilometers back.

"Sorry, I had to punch out early. The pod was coming in too low." Ramirez explains. "You go on ahead. I'll to catch up with you guys."

"The base should be just over that ridge." You see Tarin's Ronin point to the treeline. And she wasn't kidding about the distance, either. You could already see columns of smoke rising from the other side of the ridge, as well as the occasional shell tracer and laser beam.

"Well, what are we waiting for?" You grin as you grab BLL's control sticks and urge him forward.

"EXACTLY." BLL says in agreement as he charges forward, his heavy armored feet shaking the earth as he moves.

Tarin remains silent, apparently not protesting against your course of action. Instead, her Ronin starts moving forward, too. However, where you and BLL plowed your way through the forest, using BLL's armored bulk to knock over and snap trees in half like toothpicks, Tarin and her Ronin seemed to just glide straight through. You don't even see any serious weaving or maneuvering. It was as if her Titan was just phasing through all the trees like a ghost.

The two of you reach the top of the ridge in short order, and that's when you finally see the battle proper.

It was unlike anything you had ever seen. Waves of IMC soldiers and Spectres were assaulting the mutineer base, protected by high and thick walls of concrete. Mutineer troops were posted all along the walls and in forward positions, desperately trying to hold off the IMC onslaught. Gun and artillery fire flew from both sides like sheets of flame. While the walls were still intact, the forward bunkers and trenchlines looked to be on the verge of collapsing, as mutineers appeared to already be fleeing the defensive works towards the walls.

However, it didn't appear that either side had committed their Titans to the battle just yet...

"C'mon, BLL!" You press forward on your control sticks again, urging your Titan to get into the fight.

"FUCK YOU ALLLLLLL!" BLL roars as slides down the slope of the ridge, his armored feet digging deep gouges in the dirt as he lets the Predator assault cannon sing. The storm of rounds shears through the charging IMC forces, who were not expecting an attack on their flank like this. Dozens of Spectres and men instantly evaporate as the bullets scythe through their lines.

Tarin, meanwhile, seems to be content to remain on her vantage point on the ridge. No doubt to spot for any potential enemy reinforcements.

Well, it wasn't as if you needed her help, anyways. The IMC troops really had no way to stop a Titan. Sure, a few of them had rocket launchers for anti-vehicle work, but BLL's sensors were quick to spot and prioritize them as targets.

It doesn't take much for the IMC forces to break and crumble, and soon what used to be an organized infantry push had turned into a full scale rout. IMC troops fled back the way the came, while the Spectres valiantly stayed behind in a vain attempt to try and slow you down. In the distance, you could see the IMC troops fleeing back to what looked to be a forward base. You could see an assortment of vehicles, temporary structures, and some dropships. It was clear the IMC were expecting to mount a siege, not defend against a counterattack. Maybe if you pushed forward you could knock them all out in one fell swoop...

"Hold up, Holly. Don't overextend." Tarin chastises you over the radio. "Their Titans still haven't shown up yet, which means you can get jumped by them at any time."

"But I don't see-"

"That's exactly the problem." Tarin growls. "We don't know where they are, so we have to assume they're in a position to ambush us."

"I HATE TO SAY IT BUT SHE'S RIGHT." BLL adds. "I'D RATHER NOT HAVE SOME PUSSY ASS TONE DROP RIGHT ON TOP OF ME."

"Right, right." You sigh as BLL stomps the last of the Spectres into a pancake. You watch as the remaining IMC forces manage to flee to the relative safety of their base camp.

However, the artillery bombardment doesn't let up. Shells from orbital guns continue to sporadically rain down on the region, but fortunately, it looked as if most of the supply base was underground to avoid such damage.

That's when the armored steel gates built into the wall slowly grind open, and a pair of Titans stomps out. One looks to be a mix between a Ronin and a Legion. It had the armor of a Legion, but was bearing close combat weapons like a sword and shield, more reminiscent of a Ronin's armament. Its armor was also a gleaming silver finish, as if it had just been rolled right out of the factory door. It struck you as rather odd.

The second Titan looked like a feral animal some sort. Long, lanky limbs that ended in massive, golden claws and wrist mounted cannons. You could even see what looked to be some sort of weaponized tail. A blade attached to a prehensile cable that weaved and swayed in the air like a snake. It's armor was painted pure white with black striping on the back, like a tiger of some sort.

The two Titans come to a stop in front of you, seemingly staring you down.

"UHHHHHH." BLL pauses. "DO WE SHOOT THEM?"

"No!" You hiss.

There's another second of awkward silence before the cockpit of the Tiger Titan hisses open, and a white haired woman steps out.

"I take it you're from the Militia?" She asks, a neutral, yet intense expression on her face.

"UHHH, YEAH." BLL nods.

"Hey! We're supposed to do the talking!" You growl.

"That's right." Tarin's Ronin somehow just appears right next to you, causing the Knight Titan to flinch, though one intense glare from the white haired Pilot puts it back at ease.

"I think it would be easier to talk if you exited those Titans." The Pilot continues. "It's rather hard carry a conversation with a person who's face I can't see."

"Uh, sure thing." You say as you reach for the cockpit release.

"THAT IS A REALLY BAD FUCKING IDEA." BLL grumbles.

"Well, if they do snipe me or something, you've got free reign to shit all over them." You grin.

"WAY TO LOOK AT THE SILVER LINING."

You open up your cockpit and are immediately met with a wave of scorched air, choked with dust and ash. You fight the urge to sneeze or cough which would make you look so uncool.

Tarin likewise does the same. However, if she was bothered by the air at all, she did a very good job of not showing it.

And to round out the little pow wow, the pilot of the Knight Titan steps out confidently from her cockpit, too. Her hair seemed to be a pale purple or pink, though the most noticeable thing was the eyepatch slashing across her face. However, the smug smile seemed to indicate she wasn't bothered by this at all.

"I assume you've come to recruit us into your Frontier Militia?" The lead mutineer Pilot gives a suspicious look.

"Something like that." Tarin replies, giving an equally suspicious look.

God it was almost like you were seeing twins separated at birth.

"Captain Elisa Hessler, 3rd- Former commanding officer of the 3rd IMC Expeditionary Force." The Pilot introduces herself.

"Captain Tarin Richards, Frontier Militia Marauder Corps." Tarin returns the courtesy.

"Now that the formalities are out of the way, how about we take this conversation inside?" Hessler motions to the opened gate. "As you can see, this area isn't quite secure."

"THIS IS TOTALLY NOT A TRAP AT ALL." BLL sighs.

"Um... how about we talk here?" You suggest. "No offense, but I don't think either of us are kinda ready for that level of commitment."

Hessler gives you a very hard stare, as if she was trying to discern your intentions, when her eyepatched partner bursts out in laughter, momentarily interrupting her.

"Hess. Please conduct yourself." Hessler sighs.

"Sorry, Boss." Hess tries and partially succeeds in regaining her composure.

"I'm inclined to agree. I'd rather we do it out here." Tarin nods.

"Fine." Hessler turns her gaze back to Tarin. "Since I already know what you want, I'm just going to say it. We're not interested in joining your little venture."

"You don't seem to be doing too well on your own out here." Tarin points out, motioning to the devastated land surrounding you all. "The way I see it, the only way you're getting out of this alive is with our help. Or the IMC will hunt you all down."

"I broke off from the IMC because I didn't want to sacrifice my men for a cause we don't believe in." Hessler narrows her eyes. "We didn't sign up for a suicide mission, and we're not going to sign up with a band of terrorists and rebels, either."

"Then what will you fight for?" Tarin raises an eyebrow.

"Nothing." Hessler crosses her arms. "If you assist us, we'll agree to a nonaggression pact. You don't bother us, and we won't bother you. We'll even give you some of our spare equipment as compensation."

"Perhaps there is some merit in forging bonds with your Militia." Hessler nods. "All right, if you can help get us out of predicament, then we'll agree to mutually assist one another. How does that sound?"

"Good enough for me." Tarin nods. "So first things first, we need to get that fleet out of orbit."

"You don't have your own fleet?" Hessler raises an eyebrow.

"A fleet of one ship." You respond.

"Ah, well, better than nothing, I suppose." Hessler shakes her head. "I know my own fleet is taking shelter behind this planet's moon, but the IMC force is too powerful for them to take one. With the aid of your ship, we might just be able to brute force them out of the system, but it'll be costly."

"What about the defense cannon?" Hess asks, pointing back towards the mountain the supply base is built into. "That should have enough kick to knock down a cruiser!"

"I told you already, Hess, the IMC cut the power conduits. It's inoperable." Hessler sighs, and then her eyes light up. "Actually, with you here, we might just be able to pull this off. With your extra Titans, we should have enough forces to both defend the base and secure the conduit. It's going to be heavily guarded, though."

"Understood." Hessler nods and then looks up at the ridge. "And you can tell your third man to stop embarrassing himself and come down already."

"Hey, I was just pulling security, that's all!" Ramirez says in a chipper tone as his Titan slides down.

"Anyways, we can expect the Admiral to begin her next attack, and this time she'll be sending heavier forces." Hessler sighs. "That means we'll have to dedicate at least three Titans to defending the base. That will leave only two to secure the conduit."

"Uhhh, sure, I'll roll with Hess." You nod.

"Excellent." Hessler turns to her subordinate. "Hess, you'll guide our new comrade here to the power comrade. Do try to behave in her presence."

"Of course, Captain!" Hess does a little flourish and bow before turning to face you. "All right so..."

"Holly."

"Holly! Let's head off for battle then!" Hess cackles as she duck back into her Titan's cockpit.

"FINALLY. I WAS STARTING TO GET BORED." BLL grumbles.
