The Planet Sadla is an inhospitable little planet on the edge of the galaxy, a death world where only terror reigns. It comes in many forms: the massive carnivorous beasts that stalk its surface, the harsh and unforgiving habitats, and most of all in the mold of one supposedly sapient species, the Saiyans. Carving out an existence on a world like Sadla hardened the Saiyans, transforming them into fierce warriors. Unfortunately, this quickly resulted in ecological crisis.

You see, as the Saiyan population grew, the myriad of animals they hunted for their meat had their own populations diminish rapidly. While the creatures large and strong enough to beat them off remained, the relatively easy prey animals (by the standards of a death world, recall) nearly ran out entirely. With so many extinct or endangered species the Saiyans were left a problem: what could they eat?

Being Saiyans, the natural first choice was each other. They would raid each other’s tribes for slaves, using other members of their own species as mere cattle. This proved only a temporary solution. As the Saiyans feasted on one another, their own numbers dwindled just as the numbers of their former prey had. It did not help that their massive appetites left little room for breeding their slaves in captivity, as they were almost always eaten too quickly for such a thing to occur. This, now, is the point of Saiyan history where things change permanently for the better; well, if you are a Saiyan, that is. Otherwise it is but the beginning of a long nightmare. One group of Saiyans, uncharacteristically tired of the constant inter-tribal cannibalistic warfare, invented agriculture.

This one invention revitalized the Saiyan race. Swiftly it spread from tribe to tribe as slaves spread the information to avoid being consumed by their captors. Now, instead of enslaving other Saiyans for the purpose of eating them, they realized they could get much more food if they enslaved other Saiyans for the purpose of forcing them to do farm work. With formerly nomadic tribes becoming sedentary, it was at this point that the first Saiyan civilizations began to rise.

Our protagonists, of course, are one of these soon-to-be civilizations. But first, one question:

>Where do they live? (Note: all environments on Sadla are equally hostile)

>grassy plains with rolling hills

The Firey Expanse is the largest open area on Sadla’s surface, excepting a dash of hills here and there. The name is relatively self-explanatory when one encounters it’s native wildlife: the Mawtusk, an example of the rather uncreative Saiyan system of naming things. The Mawtusk does indeed have a giant maw, and large tusks, though they are somewhat larger on the males of the species. These creatures are essentially giant elephantine carnivores sporting fire-spouting trunks, resulting in regular accidental brush fires. This phenomenon is what gives the Firey Expanse its name.

The tribe lives on the western edge of the Expanse, in a small hilly area separating the Expanse from the volcanic ring surrounding it. It is a fertile area, and well-populated, making the tribe only one of many. The area makes a great staging ground for Mawtusk hunts further inland, as other prey animals have had their numbers thinned exponentially. Most popular methods of killing them require extreme brutality as well, making it a pleasant pastime, particularly for the children.

Life at the edge of the Firey Expanse is not easy, however. The other tribes constantly perform raids on one another, both to capture slaves and for entertainment. Agriculture demands that all tribes have a large workforce, as the idea of a member of their own tribe lowering themselves to the point of growing plants for a living is so disturbing that it usually prompts multiple murders if even suggested. Our tribe also has a number of slaves, almost all of which are used for sustenance, in one way or another.

Of course, we can hardly follow our erstwhile hero-well, we can hardly follow are erstwhile villains without their name, can we?

>>
>>1170023
Most of them are extinct. The Saiyans themselves have only had agriculture for a few years now. Mawtusks and other similar animals were too difficult to hunt to extinction, so they are around. The animals who had their numbers 'thinned exponentially' rather than totally obliterated have not had enough time to make their comeback because the Saiyans managed to destroy their own numbers in a remarkably short period of time, about 60% of all Saiyans on Salda died in roughly 10 years.

All of this information will be stored, updated, and expanded upon in this pastebin: http://pastebin.com/ZNasYH5k

Ah, yes, the Crimson Zelleris. Named after a species of exploding red leafy plant common in the hills, the title is often considered a reference to their fierce temper and tendency to literally explode things.

There are many problems that face the tribe. The first is the problem of government; namely, the lack thereof. There is effectively no government except a basic, unspoken agreement not to kill each other for sport or food and grudging respect for the most powerful members of the tribe. Unlike other tribal cultures there is almost no respect for the elderly in general, however those few Saiyans who last long enough to be counted as such fall into the category of the most powerful members of the tribe, and thus do receive a modicum more influence than others. Individual Saiyans will gather together to go on hunts or raids, with no one to oversee or manage this process. Perhaps a more orderly society would be best? The question remains as to who could knock enough heads together to accomplish that.

Another issue is the food shortage. As most of the slaves were eaten until recently there aren’t enough of them to manage the level of agricultural production to feed every member of the tribe. New raids will have to be conducted soon to ensure a steady supply, as well as to become familiarized to those tribes who survived the days of extreme cannibalism. A lot of them have been wiped out or absorbed into other tribes, so it’s imperative that our own tribe observe the lay of the landscape. Or, as a Saiyan would put it, you have to know who’s ass will need a kicking.

Lastly, the population crisis. A low number of children have been born in recent years due to the cannibalism; some mothers actually devoured their own children in the worst days of such. Others simply didn’t choose to have them because of the harsh circumstances, or let them starve to death in favor of their own lives. Saiyan society has no concept of romance, so most relationships are brief and casual, and children are raised communally. This reality means that most have no attachment to the youth, being too short-sighted to see the necessity of the next generation. Every young Saiyan sees themselves as immortal, after all. Still, can something be done to improve the rate of baby-making among the tribe?

>What should we do?
>>
>>1170077

> Food shortage

Before we can get more kids, or even a proper "government", we will need a way to improve food production.

One way would be to improve the soil, or by keeping animals which can produce food.

One way or another, more food opens more possibilities.

Three-field system could also help.
>>
>>1170077
One woman gets mounted by several suitors who have to fight each other and then the woman. This will cull the weak and produce the strong.
>>
>>1170105

Is it a good way to cull the grown?
Especially right now?

A better way would be a trial for kids growing into adults.

That way, we won't lose any troops we have right now.
Those who fail to come into adulthood will not be missed.
Women should also compete, it's a warrior race after all.
Everyone has to fight.

>>1170103
>>1170077
This
>>1170105
We're at low numbers.
>>
>>1170111
And we have a surplus of men.
>>
>>1170077
Lets send out scouts to find the location of other tribes. Then attack the weakest one and take all of their people as slaves. This solves the food problem and will give the men women to breed solving the population issue.
>>
>>1170114
And we need to compete against other tribes. Losing them won't help.
>>
>>1170114

We could go into war with rivaling tribes.
That way they die a useful death.

How about making this tribe an amazonian tribe?
>>
>>1170118
No.
>>
>>1170103
Supporting this.
Since Saiyans love meat we should focus on shepherding.
There's grass practically everywhere.
The problem is the herd would have to be guarded from predators and other Saiyans.
>>
>>1170121
Or just capture more Saiyans and use them to crow crops and be food when we need it.
>>
>>1170123
The problem with that is that we will also need to feed those slave saiyans to keep them alive thus raising our tribe's food requirement.
>>
>>1170123
Eating them was the cause of the food shortage.
>>
>>1170125
Who said we feed them well? And if they die we just eat them.
>>
>>1170129
Because we didn't know how to grow crops at that time, now that we do it shouldn't be as big of an issue.

>>
>>1170137
Well, eating the farmers is going to cause another food shortage. I don't know why you think it's a good idea to eat the help.
>>

Because we have farming now we shouldn't need to eat the farmers, I'm saying if they did die though we can just eat them for extra food.

Alright, so I believe that current consensus is nonexistent, so let's narrow it down from some of these suggestions. What should be our first course of action. Should we:

>Scout out new tribes for slaving raids?
or
>Try to find a more efficient way of farming?
or
>Attempt to domesticate animals for meat?
or
>Implement "the strong breed the weak" as a breeding tradition?
>>
>>1170198

>Attempt to domesticate animals for meat?

We need more meats because saiyans eat a LOT. We need to find some animals that are easy to breed and handling.
>>
>>1170198
>Try to find a more efficient way of farming?
>>
>>1170198
>Attempt to domesticate animals for meat.

and also:
>Implement "the strong breed the weak" as a breeding tradition.
If I remember my DBZ lore correctly, saiyans become stronger as they survive and recover from major injury.
>>
>>1170198
Changing >>1170216 to
>Attempt to domesticate animals for meat?
>>
>>1170198
>Attempt to domesticate animals for meat?
Though, we still need good feed for them.
>>
>>1170229
Grass.
That's the most abundant resource we have right now.
Saiyans don't eat grass.
We will need to domesticate grass eating animals.
>>
>>1170198
>>Implement "the strong breed the weak" as a breeding tradition?
>>
Ok, looks like most people want either

>Attempt to domesticate animals for meat
or
>Implement "the strong breed the weak" as a breeding tradition

So we'll just do both at the same time. Update incoming.
>>
Next turn lets set up a might based tribe with the strongest male at the top.
>>
>>1170249
Isn't that system already in place?
>>
>>1170252
Nah it seems to be an anarchy with no set ruler
>>
>>1170254

I think we need to form a fighting tournament to decide who will be the ruler of the tribe. The winner of the tournament will become the ruler of the tribe.
>>
>>1170249
Sounds good to me.
Let's have an official top monkey chieftain.
Maybe we can also have a "duel for leadership" type of annual event so we will not have to defend the crown constantly and interrupting the current regime.
>>
So what should we do with other tribe leaders once we take over their tribe? They might be too strong to let live and would only end up causing rebellions.
>>
A young member of the tribe, a relatively weak male by the name of Sproute, has returned, heavily injured, from a hunting trip. Apparently he had set out alone to find the den of a Stalker, a very large and very ferocious beast that stealthily preys on the wildlife in the Firey Expanse. When they mate, they return to the hills where they were born and build dens, just as they have for generations. They are muscular enough that even a Saiyan can have trouble with one, prompting some to ask Sproute why he even bothered trying to defeat one alone. He chose to tell his tale as he was busy skinning the carcass of his kill.

Apparently he had been offered a bet by a female by the name of Arugula. The terms were that he should bring her the head of an adult Stalker, one that he himself had killed without any other’s aid, and in return she would show him a good time when he returned to the tribe. Having succeeded in his effort and brandishing the whole corpse of a Stalker, he was naturally quite eager to take her up on it now. Unfortunately for him, he was not the only one who had heard of this bet.
Just as Sproute was preparing to mount Arugula (in public, of course, so as to really rub in his victory), he was shoved aside by Kale, another male just returning who had also brought in a Stalker’s head. While Sproute was reeling from the blow, the much larger Kale proceeded to smash his head in with his bare hands. Laughing uproariously at the whole thing, Kale went on to take Sproute’s place in the mounting. The entire tribe agreed that it was very good entertainment.

It was of course even more entertaining when Sproute’s father, an older Saiyan by the name of Tomato, ripped off both of Kale’s arms even as he was still distracted by all the fun he was having. Angered by the loss of his son, he decided to try for a replacement, which in turn angered his own prior mate, Sproute’s mother Okra, who ripped his heart out and ate it just as he was distracted by all the fun he was having.
As a result, no one is quite sure if Arugula’s new child is Kale’s or Tomato’s, but most people are guessing Tomato’s, as he was clearly the stronger of the two. Coincidentally, Okra herself is now also pregnant once more, but only after killing seven initial suitors. There are now ten less men in the tribe, but hopes remain very strong for the next generation of Saiyans, as the whole display has resulted in a cavalcade of similarly violent though significantly less deadly spats over females.

>Continues in next post
>>
>>1170296
Also quite entertaining was the death of several slaves attempting to catch Belchers, a curious species of horned herbivores that feed on Crimson Zelleris, allowing them to ‘belch’ out flames. After a few explosive mishaps a few were captured and eaten, but one tribes-member had the brilliant idea of keeping a few alive so the tribe would always have some on hand. A few others had been captures, giving a total of twenty-five in the tribe now. Because they feed on Crimson Zelleris, they often have to range far from the tribal grounds to feed, prompting concern by some that they might be stolen by other hungry tribes. Five slaves died in attempts to capture Belchers.

>What should we do now?

>140 Adult Males
>150 Adult Females
>50 Children (Increasing +10 per turn)

>>
>>1170302
Hold a nonlethal tournament to decide who the strongest is and make him the tribe leader
>>
>>1170296
>>1170302

Holy fucking shit!!!

We need to make some fucking laws otherwise it will go out of hand!

We must have law about not killing each except as last resort.
>>
>>1170308
Before fort that to happen, we're going to need a leader to enforce those laws. And I don't think many will take kindly with rules.
>>
>>1170308
No, that breeds weakness if the weak want to fight the strong let them. If they die then so what they should have been stronger.
>>
>>1170307
This
>>
>>1170318

But...
If the weak get beaten enough, they become the strong.

I propose a proper tournament, with blood, sweat and tears...
But no killing.

And, as already mentioned, a way to cull the weaker childs, by trial. (Or child-tournaments)
>>
>>1170316

True we need leader first before putting laws.

>>1170318

True we need strong warrior BUT they need some freaking common senses too otherwise they will die out very quickly.
>>
>>1170308
see >>1170316

There are no laws without someone to enforce them.
>>
>>1170347

Let's hope for a smart leader (be it male or female) who can set rules.

It's to soon for a collective leadership, isn't it?
>>
>>1170369
Collective leadership is shit especially for tribes
>>
>>1170369
That's a little advance and I doubt a warrior race would like that. Strength is the truth.
>>
Consensus seems to be non-lethal leadership tournament. Update being written

>>1170369
With a bit more development a primitive stratocracy (basically military rule) could be achieved, but as for most other forms of collective government, it would be very difficult. Regardless only tribal governments are possible right now.

>>1170378
>>1170380
These guys have the right idea. Collective leadership is rather rare in tribes that don't just have basic elder leadership. Except if it's Iroquois Confedracy type of collective leadership, but that's hard to achieve for Saiyans
>>
For people that break laws we can cut their tales off, make them eat it, then put them to work in the fields.
>>
>>1170395
Sounds good to me
>>
>>1170395

ah, right.

We gotta harness big ape powers ASAP.
>>
Some of the more powerful members of the tribe decide to have a little competition. It all started when Arugula, still recovering from the birth of her child, made yet another wager. She basically promised that she’d be the mate of whomever was the strongest in the entire tribe. At the time, Okra had laughed and remarked that, even as pregnant as she was, she was still in the strongest hunter in the village, complicating the whole ‘mate’ matter. Her newer mate, Avocado, having already bested her in combat once before, decided to make her amend that statement by kicking her in the back of the head. To her credit, Okra took the blow quite well and retaliated with a punch to his groin. Shortly thereafter another hunter, Artichoke, broke up the ensuing fight.

“Hold on, that Arugula lass just gave me a good idea,” he said. “Why don’t we go and get all of the strongest in the tribe and have them fight? Then we’ll know for sure who’s the strongest!”

(It should be noted that ‘the strongest’ would naturally then be in charge of the whole tribe.)

All in all, eight candidates for the title are assembled:

>Okra, female. Currently pregnant, not that it’s going to stop her. In her mid-thirties, short tempered, and very bloodthirsty even by Saiyan standards. Is sure to be a war-like chieftess.

>Avocado, male. Okra’s new mate, replacing Tomato. Not even out of his teens yet, he’s a young hot-head with a lot to prove. Prideful and eager to excel.

>Artichoke, male. Old by Saiyan standards, he’s in his forties. Wise and cautious, once again by Saiyan standards. He’s lived through some tough times and has the scars to show for it.

>Zelleri, female. A tremendously uncreative name by any means, also has crimson hair. In her twenties, fierce, and clever. Her small size has forced her to compensate with brutal cunning.

>Potato, male. Tomato’s very large brother. Relies on brute strength and size in battle. In addition to wanting to prove himself as the strongest, also wants to kill Okra, though he’ll avoid doing so in the tournament. Afterwards, though…

>Cauli, female. Huge for a female, standing at a full six feet in height and quite muscular. In her thirties, she’s one of the most experienced hunters the tribe has to offer, and is an expert on nature in general.

>Cumber, male. A young serial polygamist. On the bright side, no lack of heirs, on the minus side, way too many heirs. Part of appeal of being the strongest is that it’ll help him with the ladies, but of course, being a Saiyan, he’s no stranger to general battle-lust in addition to his normal lust.

>Turnip, male. Considered to be quite insane, Turnip usually preaches the value of non-violence and cooperation. The other competitors are unhappy with the thought of such a rampant sociopath achieving victory in the tournament, but Turnip’s learned some unusually powerful ways of controlling his ki.

From what people are saying they're hoping he can teach the next generation a few things that will help the tribe that will stick around after someone offs him like a better government structure, and ki powers, but fail to realize that whoever kill might be an idiot that banishes this teachings as to move away from the teachings of a mad man and would actually cripple us instead of picking another leader and forcing Turnip to teach the clean how he does his witchcraft.

Then again I like overthinking things so I'm sure I'm just talking out my ass.
>>
Guys, FM said Turnip likes peace but is also insane so all we know he wants peace within the tribe while loving to slaughter someone outside of the tribe.
>>
The reactions to Turnip winning ranged from utter shock and disbelief to utter hatred and anger. Utterances of both sorts of uttered reactions were quite common, and several fights broke out among the lower warriors. Turnip’s first action as Chieftain of the Crimson Zelleris was to declare that he would not and would never cavort with Arugula, as previous experience would prove that an un-wise decision. He also considered building a wall and making the Mawtusks pay for it (by using their carcasses as raw materials), but chose to shelve that idea temporarily.

One object of curiosity was Turnip’s unusual method of fighting. Most Saiyans channeled ki inwardly, empowering their muscles in order to achieve ungodly levels of strength and power. To win his battles, however, Turnip had channeled it outwardly, creating strange little globules of energy he referred to as ‘ki blasts’. Interest in these blasts rose now that they had proven their usefulness, and Turnip was happy to teach from others.

Of course, this resulted in bit of an incident. Okra had insulted the new chief and his cowardly blasts, right in front of the whole tribe. This led to Turnip going on a long-winded speech about the nature of power dynamics and the social contract, then using a ki blast to smash open her stomach. After eating the partially-developed fetus in front of her as a form of chastisement, he launched into another long-winded speech about the ethical dilemma of abortion, and how it relates to the intricate interplay between classical morality and the natural callousness of the Saiyan species.

Avocado, quite angered at the whole display, attempted to punch him partway through the second speech, only to have his leg crippled by an oncoming ki blast. This prompted a long-winded speech about the need for greater medical technology so as to minimize the amount of death or crippling injury present by nature in all primitive societies, which then elegantly segued into a humorous diatribe about the realities of damage to the two articulations connecting the femur to the tibiofemoral joint and the patellofemoral joint.

Thankfully both Okra and Avocado survived the ordeal, and a full year since the Crimson Zelleris achieved agriculture, they now have a surprisingly popular, if still very strange Chieftain.

You know how we have a tournament to determine who's strongest?

Let's have a tournament to determine everyone's place. So that even the weakest know who's slightly less weak, and slightly more weak.

And by tournament I mean a big free for all.

Try to be nonlethal of course. All in good fun.

Come to think of it, can we somehow cultivate a societal image of NONlethal combat being fun to participate in?

Maybe invent some sport. Sport involving lots of combat. Nonlethal combat.
>>
>>1170631

How about rugby/american football/blood bowl? It also make you learn teamwork.
>>
>>1170597
so should we focus on making even more powerful ki attacks or should we focus on making better weapons and tools and then figuring out how to use the body's ki to supercharge them as well?
>>
>>1170639
Better Ki attacks since that so much stronger than weapons
>>
>>1170638
That sounds like a good idea.
Can the Ball explode when thrown?
That would be great fun

That way we could have some kind of Sports Tournament.

Also as an aside your government type has changed to:

>>
>>1170655
Zenkai is still a thing here, yes. The problem is that most fights end in death rather than near death.

For those who are curious, the estimated power level of Turnip is about 350, and average power level tribe-wide is about 100. Most of the more powerful warriors are in the +200 range. Everyone's power level will be going up with the discovery of ki blasts, especially as its usage becomes more complex.

Inspired by the tournament of the most powerful hunters, the tribe at large has decided to begin regular competitions of such non-lethal combat, accidentally creating a hierarchy of strength within the tribe. These tournaments are supported by Chief Turnip, who recognizes the advantage that regular combat training might have for the strength of the tribe as a whole. In addition to this, Turnip’s instruction in the art of ki blasts has earned him quite a few admirers, to the point where he is considering taking a mate. It is unlikely any female in the tribe will refuse him, as the strongest in the tribe. (All of the previously mentioned females are options, even Okra, though that might be a bad idea)

Chief Turnip himself has tried to experiment with more advanced forms of ki control, to maintain his advantage over the rest of the tribe. He saw some success, managing to focus a ki blast into a continuous, though quite unstable, cylindrical beam. This basic ‘ki beam’ is more powerful than a normal ki blast, but slow to charge and fire. It could do with some more improvement.

Another dilemma has presented itself to the Chief. With some of the older children in the tribe starting to reach adulthood, some of the hunters are suggesting that they go through some sort of initiation rite to ensure their usefulness as adults. It’s up to Turnip to come up with something, though, as they would never dare presume to make that determination without his approval, lest they find their infants devoured. As Turnip ponders this, he also begins to encourage more mating. While it’s difficult to ensure more children considering the brutal mating tradition, it does get a few more babies born than normal.

However, stranger happenings are on the horizon. A group of refugees from a nearby tribe, calling themselves the Bloodhounds, arrived in our tribe. Apparently their village was set upon by a savage tribe known as the Dragonclaws, who burned their domain to the ground. Most of the females were stolen, and the males and children butchered. The survivors are made up of those who were able to escape the devastation, composed of the elders and a few of the uglier females. All in all their tale was fairly entertaining, though a little dry, leaving some of the more excitable tribe members disappointed. Nonetheless, something must be done about them, and perhaps one day these Dragonclaws, too…

>wat do bloodhounds?
have them fight the slaves. If they beat the slave and prove their strength they're in if they lose to the slave the slave moves up and joins our tribe and the bloodhound becomes a slave. Non-lethal fights because if they kill a slave they have to replace the slave and if the slave kills they will be killed and then feed to the other bloodhounds as an apolgy. this way we keep the week farming and making us food and keep the strong in the tribe.

>wat do Chief Turnip?
Turnip should also find a wife, someone who can run the tribe should he ever need to leave. then he should leave the tribe in her care while he goes and tries to find more powerful ki and fighting technics to make himself and the tribe stronger.

>>
Oh crap I also remembered something else we need to vote on, what do we do with the kids reaching adulthood?

Have them venture out into the wilds and tell them not to come back unless they kill something or find something useful for the tribe? like the body of a slain beast, or the head of a dead rival tribe member, or some kind of useful information or technic that will make the tribe stronger like a new fighting style or blacksmithing or something like that? These sound good or anyone else got some ideas?
>>
>>1171085
A little of this and a little that. While slaying big beasts and strong opponents are a must, new knowledge is important, too.
>>
Alright I'm back. Narrowing down the options, we have:
>Force the surviving Bloodhounds to fight slaves to earn a place in the tribe (Any who refuse to fight will be enslaved by default)
or
>Force the surviving Bloodhounds to fight tribe members to earn a place in the tribe (Any who refuse to fight will be enslaved by default)

Also, you have to decide on an initiation ritual for adulthood, or simple set a certain age if you don't want there to be a ritual, though I doubt that'd be something a lot of people want.

>Initiation to adulthood?

Also, updated the pastebin, will post most of the new stuff here to show what we've accomplished so far.

Crimson Zelleri Tribe

Population: 454 Saiyans Total
>140 Adult Males
>150 Adult Females
>69 Children (+15 per turn)
>95 Slaves
>45 Belchers (Domesticated, +10 per turn)

Division of Labor:
>290 Hunter-Gatherers
>95 Slave-Farmers
>45 Domesticated Animals

System of Government:
>Tribal Chiefdom: The Chief, currently Chief Turnip, rules the tribe by right of being its strongest warrior. His power can enforce rules that otherwise would be difficult to enforce.
>Internal Hierarchy: The hunters are ranked by strength, with the more powerful automatically being in charge of their lessers.
>Chief Turnip, male. Considered to be quite insane, Turnip usually preaches the value of non-violence and cooperation. Considered to be a rampant sociopath, he nonetheless learned some unusually powerful ways of controlling his ki, giving him victory in the leadership tournament. Power level of 350.

Tribal Traditions:
>Mating Tradition (The Strongest Breed): Violent contests decide who gets to mate with whom, limiting population growth but increasing the strength of the next generation.
>Slavery: Raids on enemy tribes procure slaves for the tribe.
>Tournaments: Regular violent sporting competitions are held to re-affirm the position of each individual member of the tribe.

eh this sounds like a better way to get stronger tribes man. Still try to encourage the no killing rule as if we kill all the bloodhounds then we don't get any new slaves. Although I do feel that it shouldn't be as enforced as I said it would be if they were fighting slaves since the whole thing with the slave fighting was to insure we came out with a net gain instead of a loss.

>>
>>1171133
This is really Saiyan, but also has potential for the future. I like it.

We should be thinking about forming slave raids. If our strength is Strength but our weakness is numbers, then collecting slaves will offset this.

What are our current Hunter-Gatherer's tactics? How effective are they at hunting Mawtusks?

If we can have our Hunter-Gatherers spot a Mawtusk without the Mawtusk seeing them, wait to charge up a Basic Ki Beam, then unleash their Ki Beams all at once on the Mawtusk, we'll have a pretty strong advantage.

Maybe we can even hunt the Mawtusk to extinction.
>>
>>1171133
We might want to consider finding some way to replace turnip. The short term boost we got from ki blasts is great but the long term effects of having someone completely insane running our tribe could be devastating. Maybe have Artichoke and/or Zellari stage some sort of coup or assassination.

The Bloodhound refugees are forced to either fight Crimson Zelleri tribesmen for their freedom or submit to slavery. To their credit, none of them submit to slavery without a fight. Ten new tribe members and twenty new slaves are added to the tribe’s numbers, bolstering them quite significantly. Though the refugees are not the only new hunters to be welcomed into the Zelleris.

The addition of an initiation process allows a fair number of children to becomes adults. Usually, they bring the pelts of strong animals, though a few bring more thoughtful gifts. One in particular caught Chief Turnip’s attention: a new hunter by the name of Parsnip had managed to capture a pair of Stalker cubs, alive. Considering the previous success domesticating the Belchers, there is a possibility that they can be tamed, but it may take a while due to their inherently standoffish nature. Additionally, the lack of a separate food source means that they will have to live off the tribe’s meat.

For the sake of reference, besides Chief Turnip here are the 8 most powerful hunters:

>1. Artichoke, male. Old by Saiyan standards, he’s in his forties. Wise and cautious, once again by Saiyan standards. He’s lived through some tough times and has the scars to show for it. Power level of 340.

>2. Avocado, male. Okra’s new mate, replacing Tomato. Not even out of his teens yet, he’s a young hot-head with a lot to prove. Prideful and eager to excel. Power level of 320.

>3. Okra, female. In her mid-thirties, short tempered, and very bloodthirsty even by Saiyan standards. Tomato's former mate, Avocado's current mate. Power level of 300.

>4. Zelleri, female. A tremendously uncreative name by any means, also has crimson hair. In her twenties, fierce, and clever. Her small size has forced her to compensate with brutal cunning. Power level of 280.

>5. Cauli, female. Huge for a female, standing at a full six feet in height and quite muscular. In her thirties, she’s one of the most experienced hunters the tribe has to offer, and is an expert on nature in general. Power level of 270.

>6. Potato, male. Tomato’s very large brother. Relies on brute strength and size in battle. In addition to wanting to prove himself as the strongest, also wants to kill Okra. Power level of 250.

>7. Power level of 240.

>8. Parsnip, male. An up and coming hunter who gave the thoughtful gift of a potential domesticate for his initiation ritual. Intelligent, and relatively strong, though the weakest of the most powerful hunters. Power level of 220.

Any other potential rulers or consorts for Turnip will come out of this list, which is in the pastebin http://pastebin.com/ZNasYH5k for the sake of future reference

Everyone will already listen to everything Artichoke says that doesn't directly contradict the orders of Chief Turnip. If you want to formalize him in an advisory position that's fine, though. But I'll warn you that if Turnip pisses him off that he will not take it lying down. Right now he's content to serve, however.

The first order of business for Chief Turnip was a personal affair. Being both childless and the tribe’s strongest makes him quite the bachelor, and producing strong children is essential for the long term survival of the Crimson Zelleris. This is something that the Chief himself had spent a huge amount of time giving long-winded speeches lecturing about. Unfortunately, with regards to the Crimson Zelleri he had in mind, who, indeed, was both Crimson and a Zelleri, making this perhaps the most fitting title, he was at a loss. With her being the strongest female in the tribe whose child he hadn’t murdered it was only natural that she would be his mate, yet frustratingly enough he was having trouble attaining this.

Fortunately, the newly appointed Chief’s Second, as well as the most powerful hunter, Artichoke, did in fact have some useful advice.

“I think I lack understanding of the electro-chemical processes taking place in the neurological systems of our female hunters, Artichoke. It is natural that given the innately conflicting nature of our species that the strongest of the females should give themselves over to the strongest male, which in this situation is of course myself. Yet for some reason this conclusion has eluded my magnificent ability,” said Turnip.

“Have you tried, you know, asking her?”

“No.”

“Well, start with that, then,” said Artichoke

Following this conversation, the Chief did in fact ask Zelleri to mate with him, and after the customary brawl was finished claimed her as his consort. She was swiftly impregnated, and will be giving birth soon.

Ignoring personal matters, the Chief also ordered two actions: firstly, that a group of ten hunters scout the area surrounding the tribe for signs of other tribes. The second action was to begin the attempted domestication of the Stalker cubs brought by the hunter Parsnip. They had varying degrees of success.

There appear to be three tribes in the immediate vicinity of the Crimson Zelleris. To the west, the ragged remains of the Bloodhounds’ village stand as a monument to the destructive Dragonclaws. The Dragonclaws themselves are not located during the mission; the former Bloodhounds claim they are further to the west of them, dwelling in the volcanic ring surrounding the Firey Expanse. To the east and south, there are two villages, belonging to the Skullcrushers and Bloodsippers respectively. These two tribes seem to feud quite regularly, even by the standards of Saiyan tribes. The scouts actually met them for the first time in the midst of a battle. And to the north…

The scouts encountered a fortified village with some sort of wall around it, built from the skeletons of Mawtusks. It appeared to be uninhabited, but when they approached it they had ki blasts fired upon them. Two of the scouts were killed, and the others quickly retreated further back. The former Bloodhounds do not know the name of this tribe, only that they are reclusive and not fond of visitors. It seems that any attempt to get close will meet with intense hostility. Additionally, one of them claims to have spotted a shadowy figure following them on their way home, prompting some concern, although this supposed figure could not be located.

The domestication goes better. The Stalker cubs are very fond of the young Parsnip, following him around during his daily business. They have to go another year before they reach adulthood, but when they do it might be possible to capture more Stalkers to breed them with. Already they are aiding in hunting missions and pulling their weight around the tribe. Parsnip calls his own pair ‘Tooth’ and ‘Claw’, rather uncreative as traditional of the Saiyan race.

hmm, well I say we grab what's left of the bloodhounds as a trail run for our warriors and based off that decide how we should engage the skulls and the bloods. >155 Adult Males (+5 per turn,)
>168 Adult Females (+5 per turn)
>99 Children (+15 per turn)
>115 Slaves
>65 Belchers (Domesticated, +10 per turn)
>2 Stalker Cubs (Domesticated)

Division of Labor:
>323 Hunter-Gatherers
>115 Slave-Farmers
>67 Domesticated Animals

System of Government:
>Tribal Chiefdom: The Chief, currently Chief Turnip, rules the tribe by right of being its strongest warrior. His power can enforce rules that otherwise would be difficult to enforce.
>Internal Hierarchy: The hunters are ranked by strength, with the more powerful automatically being in charge of their lessers.
>Chief Turnip, male. Considered to be quite insane, Turnip usually preaches the value of non-violence and cooperation. Despite being a rampant sociopath in the eyes of his fellow Saiyans, he nonetheless learned some unusually powerful ways of controlling his ki, giving him victory in the leadership tournament. 25 years old. Power level of 360.
>Chief's Second Artichoke, male. Old by Saiyan standards. Wise and cautious, once again by Saiyan standards. He’s lived through some tough times and has the scars to show for it. His experience is considered valuable enough that Chief Turnip officially appointed him as Chief's Second, his most highly valued advisor. 47 years old.

>Initiation: Children on the cusp of adulthood must go out into the Firey Expanse and procure something of value for the tribe. Whether or not the value of the thing is sufficient is determined by the Chief.

It's time to prepare for war.

We should consider using Belchers for something.
Bones, hide, tendons, all that could be used in some way or another.

I suppose we used them to build before, so how about we try to go for armour next, maybe better tools too. (As for weapons, not sure if we are ready to infuse Ki into our weapons yet.)
>>
>>1173128

Also, fucking Turnip.
I'm almost certain that his complexion is so orange, he might as well be called "Kakarot".
>>
>>1173100
>What does Chief Turnip do?
He orders the animal handlers to train some of the belchers for war.

If I recall the past OP posts correctly, these animals belch out fire.
They could make good siege units and crowd control specialists if handled right.
This would also complement our ki blasters and perhaps even use them as mounts.
Assuming that these creatures are even compatible enough to be used as mounts.

Aside from that we could possibly use them as beasts of burden at the farmlands though since they belch fire this might prove to be a hazard. We'll have to figure out how to redirect their fire belches elsewhere where they won't burn the crops. Perhaps a specialized muzzle with exhaust pipes?
>>
>>1173175
Belchers are too small to be used as mounts. They're roughly the size of mountains goats. It should be possible to train them for war, however their current handlers are slave-farmers so it would be best to assign the task to proper Saiyans, such as with the Stalker cubs.
>>
>>1173175

We can properly use belchers for smithing and cooking thank to their fire-breathing.
>>
>>1173193
Alright.
Let the proper saiyans handle the tasks of training the belchers for war, with the initial assistance of the slaver-farmers.
Make them teach the initial belcher-masters-in-training to teach them how to handle belchers.
After that these trained saiyans will work on integrating their know-how of war and battle with their new knowledge.
Then they will be responsible for training future beast masters from now on.
Their slave-farmer teachers will then be returned to their former duties.

>>1173231
That is also a good idea.
We shall turn these goat-sized creatures into living stoves, forges and ovens!

So to summarize everything; The tribe will think of various ways of utilizing the belchers' fire belching abilities to their advantage and integrate them to their daily lives.

Other points of contention:
>Should the tribe prepare for war or raiding? If so, how?
>Should the tribe loot the remains of the Bloodhounds' village?
>>
>>1173238

> The tribe should loot the remains of the Bloodhounds' village!

Technological piracy HO!
>>
>>1173238
>Should the tribe prepare for war or raiding? If so, how?
Not right now. We will still have to train some belchers.
For now let's train an escort of guards so that our scavengers and looters will have some protection from a potential ambush while they strip the Bloodhound village of its contents.

>Should the tribe loot the remains of the Bloodhounds' village?
Yes.
>>
>>1173238
>>Should the tribe prepare for war or raiding? If so, how?
For now raiding since we're going to finish off the bloodhounds to boast our forces. Have our forces practice diversion tactics and hit and runs. Diversion as in have a smaller group of our stronger saiyans open up an attack to either get the enemy to run or attack the small group while our main forces come in from the opposite direction and either hit the enemy in the back or stop anyone from running away. Hit and run is self explanatory. Ambushes on away parties and having small groups of warriors fire ki attacks at important enemy structures or people to try and cripple or destroy them then running the fuck away before the enemy can counter attack. Mounts will be vary handy for the second form of attack.

>>Should the tribe loot the remains of the Bloodhounds' village?
Yes. It will make good practice.

“Do not stress yourself, accouchement is remarkably simply when done in the correct manner. It is of paramount importance that you be as relaxed possible during the delivery process. Here, allow me to grasp your prehensile organ while you push.”

“Screw you, you bastard! You’re the one who did this to me in the first place! I’m pushing as hard as I can already, damn it!”

Chief Turnip was currently in a bit of an awkward position. After his mate Zelleri’s water broke, he was one of the first on the scene. He immediately ordered Artichoke to retrieve a few of the older females to aid with the birth, but in the meantime he was stuck here with her. It was somewhat rare for Saiyan males to actually be present when their children are born, but Turnip wished to be an exception to the rule. Being that he was the strongest in the tribe, and his mate quite powerful as well, his own child was a contender to potentially succeed him, if groomed properly. Nonetheless, the constant screaming was getting annoying. As were by this point multiple attempts by Zelleri to fire a ki blast at his reproductive areas, though those were rather easily deflected. So perhaps it would be best if he waited outside.

“I’m back, Chief. And I’ve brought a few of the elder lasses to midwife her,” said Artichoke, as he and a group of females entered the chief’s residence.

“Excellent, my faithful second. It is imperative that we allow them to do their work. Come, we shall exit and await the birth of the child outside. I wanted to discuss with you the potential ancillary uses of our domesticated Belchers.”

“Right.”

Hours later, when the birthing was complete, Chief Turnip returned to his hovel to greet the newborn. It was a boy, who looked very much like him, though he had his mother’s crimson hair. Thankfully Zelleri had fallen asleep shortly after he was squeezed out, the birth having strained her considerably. Since she seemed out of commission, it appeared it was up to the Chief to name the boy.

>What is the name of Chief Turnip’s son? (The child was born with a power level of 15)

Drills were organized by the Chief to instill tactical knowledge in the tribe’s hunters. Unfortunately, the average Saiyan’s knowledge of tactics does not advance far beyond charging straight at the enemy. In particular, Chief Turnip ensured that they were capable of dodging and deflecting ki blasts, though ki beams of sufficient strength appeared too powerful to properly deflect, so only dodging was advised in that case. This should provide a significant advantage, particularly should the tribe enter into a violent confrontation with the unknown tribe to the north, which also has knowledge of outward ki manipulation.

The process of breeding the Belchers for other purposes is going well. Repurposing them for cooking, smithing, and other similar uses was easily done, as they are relatively docile unless provoked. A group of ten was assembled under Cauli to breed for bravery and warfare. Progress on this front is slower; the Belchers are a naturally skittish species, after all, and the Saiyans, particular those dedicated to war, are just the opposite. Nonetheless, Cauli claims it will only take a few more breeding seasons to get a decent group of War-Belchers, if she selects for strength and bravery. (Action will complete in two turns, until then the population of War-Belchers will remain stagnant and unusable in combat) Additionally, Parsnip’s twin Stalkers, Tooth and Claw, reached adulthood this year. Both have power levels of about 100. While they are quite useful, they are both siblings and male, so more Stalker cubs will need to be kidnapped to serve as mates for them in the future.

Scouts, including some former Bloodhounds, were dispatched to the remains of the Bloodhound village to search for loot. While it was thoroughly ransacked by the Dragonclaws, they were primarily interested in material wealth rather than more practical spoils. Some food, tools and weapons, and a storage full of firewood were all recovered. The Bloodhounds seemed somewhat distressed that they could not recover any of their personal belongings as well.

“Turnip! Come back here right this instant or I’ll kill you!”

“Sorry, I am unable to grant your request as I am currently in the midst of perfecting the outward manipulation of ki so as to assure the posterity of the Saiyan race.”

“I don’t care! Chili is crying and it’s your turn to clean up his crap.”

“I-yes, dear.”

Somewhere, deep inside of his heart, a tiny piece of Turnip was severely regretting that he had decided to make his relationship with Zelleri and Chili far more involved than typical of Saiyan father. It was times like these that gave that piece its potency. Thankfully, Chili hadn’t made as much of a mess as last time, and so was rather easily taken care of. And once it was dealt with, he attempted to return to his training, only to be interrupted once again.

“Chief.”

“Artichoke, my good man. What matter is it that requires my attention?”

“The hunters we sent out looking for Stalkers have returned. Not all of them made it,” said Artichoke, scratching at his beard in what might have been sadness on a weaker man.

“A pity. Yet they knew the risks; Stalkers are fearsome predators, even more so when defending their young from would-be kidnappers. How many returned, and did they at least capture a cub or two?”

“Just one, but she’s a lass. Seven hunters returned.”

“So three died, then. Shame. And Tooth and Claw will have to share a mate for now. Once she reaches an appropriate age, anyway. Speaking of age and mates, I have a proposition for you, now that I’ve thought of it just now.”

“Yes, Chief?”

“You and Cauli should mate. Being both slightly more experienced and of higher than standard intelligence and strength, it is only fitting that you too should bond to one another for the twin purposes of reproduction and to re-affirm the social bond that must be present between individuals at the high levels of tribal societies for maximum group cohesiveness.”

“Right. Will do.”

“Hmph. I expected that convincing you would be harder.”

“Wrong on that count. Not like I haven’t given the lass a tumble or two before. But that was during the famine, so we made sure not to squeeze out any little ones. Suppose we should, now.”

“Exactly, my good man. I hope your relationship is as happy and healthy as my own!”

“Eh, maybe.”

“That’s the spirit!”

The failure of the raids on Stalker dens was unfortunate, but not an unexpected outcome for Chief Turnip. With an average power level of 100, and ferocious enough when not defending their young, he had already calculated that a few men would probably be lost. The real pity was that only a single cub was wrangled back to the tribe. At least this would mean a breeding population in just a couple years when she reached adulthood, though perhaps some more successful raids could be organized in the mean time.

Additionally, time dedicated to ki manipulation allowed the Chief to perfect his ki blasts to be stronger, as well as increasing his all around power. (+20 to Chief Turnip’s Power Level)
Work began on the construction of a wall to defend the village from outside attack, composed of the skeletal remains of hunted Mawtusks. It would probably take another few months to complete, but even in it’s unfinished state provided a great bulwark to enemy tribes. Walls were not the only defensive innovation to greet the tribe. Primitive protective clothing, made from tough Belcher or Mawtusk hides, soon became a popular article of clothing. Most Saiyans opted to wear this armor at all times, just in case of a fight.

>>
>>1173633
>>1173641
>>1173657
Current lore on Saiyans states they live about as long or slightly longer as Humans, but their do not outwardly age much. Effectively there's just a point where their bodies give up and die of old age, but until that point they keep on going strong. According to lore (I believe written by Toriyama himself) for Dragonball Online, just before Goku and Vegeta were going to die of old age they went out to an un-inhabited space and had one last all-out fight to the death, which resulted into a multitude of star systems blowing up. So they are powerful until the very end.

>>1173675
>>1173678
The slave population is stagnant at the moment, as their is no real incentive for them to breed. You may institute a breeding program if you want, however it may not be very productive. The slaves are kept on the brink of death at all times to avoid rebelliousness, and often are left only just healthy enough to keep working. Slave women might not survive childbirth or even conception considering how Saiyans go at it. Of course, you can also choose to start treating your slaves better, but that would be terrible in-Saiyan of you.

1. We're saiyans so we want to fight the strong.

2. If we win, we even the scales between the two clans and keep the feud going. They'll probably be too busy with each other to retaliate.

Also, if we do raid, Turnip should take part. It's probably been awhile since he's gotten into a real fight, and he needs to remind the clan of just why he's the fucking boss.

“I will lead the raid,” announced Turnip.

“Chief?”

“It has been some time since I last re-affirmed my authority over the tribe. It is necessary in societies based on personal power that the ruler or ruling class regularly displays their superiority over the lower class.”

“Right,” said Artichoke, “you need to show off or the tribe will get uppity.”

“Exactly, my good man. Now, gather a group of men. Around twenty should be sufficient, we’ll go around the side of the village and head to the slave fields. We should be able to secure a few new slaves without getting into a direct confrontation with the enemy. Which enemy is it, by the way?”

“Our scouts report that the Skullcrushers seem to have a few more men than the Bloodsippers, but the Bloodsippers have a few more lasses. So if you want the stronger one it’ll be the Skullcru-”

It was at that point that Cauli bonked her new mate on the head, hard.

“So if you want the stronger one,” she continued, “it’ll be either or.”

“Did you have to hit me? Is this because you’re preg-”

After slamming a kick straight into Artichoke’s windpipe, Cauli smiled in a strangely sweet manner.

“Oh, honey. I would have hit you anyway. I’ll go get the hunters together, Chief,” she said, before leaving.

“Er, sure. Are you alright Artichoke?”

“Yeah, I’m fine Chief. She’s a real spitfire, that one. Almost as bad as your mate, actually. Almost.”

“Hey! Zelleri is a fine mate!”

“Are you sure you’re not just saying that because she can hear everything we’re saying from the next room?”

“Uh…you know, I think you’ve become a bit insubordinate recently, Artichoke. Why don’t you come along on this raid? There’s something I need to show you,” said Turnip.

The raid had been a success.

They had traveled for some time, ranging on the very edge of Skullcrusher territory, occasionally skirmishing with a few patrolmen. They made sure to leave a few alive each time, to send word back to their village. They lured the bulk of the Skullcrusher forces out of the village, then swooped in behind them to raid their slave fields. Chief Turnip and his men kidnapped a total of ten slaves, one for every two men in their party, then started killing a few more to weaken the Skullcrushers. That was when one of the Skullcrushers approached them, a angered look on his face.

“You there! Those are my slaves you’re carting off!”

“Yours?” asked Artichoke.

“Yeah, mine. And I want them back!”

“You must be the leader of the Skullcrushers, then. I am pleased to make your acquaintance."

“Eh? Are you daft? Those are mine, not the Chief’s. Every great warrior has a few slaves of their own, you know. As a reward. And those are mine,” said the Skullcrusher.

“Why would an individual ever need to personally own slaves in the framework of a communal, mildly proto-collectivist tribal society?” asked Turnip.

“I think I might have an idea, Chief.”

“What is it, Artichoke?”

“All the slaves in this field are lasses.”

“And?”

“And, well…you know, there’s some things you can only do with a lass.”

“Like what?”

“Like, well, you know, Chief. I mean, you have to.”

“No, I don’t. It is simply an ineffective way of organizing a tribal society. The benefits of increased morale are outweighed by the decreased ability of the chief to manage agricultural production, and speaking of agricultural production, filling a field with females will lower the overall efficiency if they do not also have males present for the heavier labor. Unless they are letting their slaves use ki, which would frankly only further lower my opinion of them.”

“Right,” said Artichoke.

“HEY! I’M STILL HERE YOU KNOW!”

“Yeah, yeah. Please kill him for me, Artichoke.”

“With pleasure.”

The Saiyan only took a few ki blasts to down, seeming to disappoint Artichoke some. Unfortunately, the relative lack of enemies during this raid gave the Chief no real opportunity to re-affirm his authority. He had a Plan B, naturally. The men seemed more impressed at Artichoke than him. Speaking of Artichoke, that was his Plan B.

“A wonderful performance, Artichoke. Now, do me.”

“Chief?”

“I said, do me. Throw a few ki blasts in my direction. Show me your strength.”

“Chi-”

“Now. Or I kill you where you stand.”

The ki blasts flew. Chief Turnip deflected all of them, launching them back at Artichoke too fast for him to respond. One of them hit him right in the solar plexus, bowling him over. The Chief walked over to him, placing his foot on Artichoke’s head, eagerly mashing his face into the dirt.

“There, Artichoke. Insult my mate again and I, ahem, re-affirm my authority some more, shall we say? Time to head home.”

It really angered the Skullcrushers, however, to the point where they may sent a retaliation force. The tribe awaits that possibility with anticipation.

Also of note was the completion of two long term goals: the wall, and the breeding program of war-belchers. As Cauli reported upon the Chief’s return to the village, the wall is sturdy and the War-Belchers quite brave. Additionally, the Chief’s son, Chili, is now a year old.

Some work was done by Cauli and a few other females searching for potential medicinal herbs. One promising lead came as a result of the War-Belcher breeding program, oddly enough. Apparently ingesting the lower root of the Crimson Zelleri can help with fevers, as one breeder found out while sharing his charge’s food. When questioned on why in all of Salda he would do such a thing, he claimed that he wanted to know why the damned Belchers found them so tasty. The rest of the tribe was not impressed. It should help with the fatality rate of certain diseases, however. As long as the plant doesn’t explode when harvested.

Equal crazy like as father and cunning as his mother but is more kinder than average saiyan except when somebody real piss him off, whwn he become pissed off he fight like a demon.

>>1174637

This, he is our bro.

>>1174602
I see a third of the children doesn't survive to adulthood. We need to do something with it. What's the foremost cause of child deaths?
>>
>>1174602

Shall we mate some more?
We shall, can't expect ONE SINGLE child to survive the all of the dangers.

And he would have to survive the trial.

Additionaly, if we have more kids, we have more genes for futute generations.
>>
>>1174671
>What's the foremost cause of child deaths?
I would assume Saiyans.
>>
>>1174671
There are a few reasons for this.
1. Most of the children were born recently. Remember, the tribe only had 50 to start with, most of them young. (famine and then extreme cannibalism meant the older generation of children was significantly less plentiful, they made good snacks)
2. Health issues and child mortality
3. The initiation rite requires them to go out alone to find something of value, this is dangerous
>>
>>1174691

Still waiting for the "useful" part.

Though the stalkers are nice.
>>
>>1174713
They usually just hunt and kill a big animal
>>
>>1174602
Crazy as his dad, brutally cunning as his mom.

Lets see if we can figure out a way to get more out of the crops. This village is starting to get bigger pretty fast. Don't wanna run out of food.

Also, it'd be nice if we had better houses. Hovels suck.
>>
>>1174602
>>1174637 + >>1174624
>>
>>1174734

That brings me to a question.

What sort of tools are we using right now?
>>
>>1174637
Not just any gift basket, but a gift basket with wine.

Note to self, we need to invent booze at somepoint.
>>
>>1174749
The slaves are using very basic farming tools and muscle power when that is insufficient. Hoes, shovels, that sort of thing. Mostly wooden because metal is rare, though you could always go into the Volcanic Ring to mine for more. This might be dangerous because Dragonclaws (who use almost entirely metal weaponry, BTW)

Other than that basic swords and spears. Bows haven't been invented but are rendered mostly useless by ki blasts and ki beams anyway.
>>
>>1174778
Do we not have metal because we don't DIG? or is it because its just literally a really poor metal area?
>>
>>1174788
Even if we found the stuff, it's not like we have a forge, or even the idea of a forge.
>>
>>1174795
So what you're saying is we should go and kidnap a forge and possibly a forge slave?
>>
>>1174795
Heat/Ki + Metal + shaping into axe head = Axe head for an axe.

or

Shiny object + Trying to sharpen it = New metal weapon.
>>
>>1174778

Well, what do we have animals for?
Bone tools can be useful too.
Even better than wood, in fact.

(We could try and going for mining too. Male slaves could work those.)

Have we establised proper "warriors" yet? We should.

>>1174795
We got animals that breath fire.
And combustable plants.
All we need to find is lumps of metal, and a use for them. The rest is a matter of smarts.
>>
>>1174805
Sure if we could find one

>>1174806
Fair point, though we might want to work on our Ki shaping if we're going that route.

>>1174817
True enough I suppose, though handling the hot metal is going to take some work.
>>
>>1174602
Provoke the Skullskillers and the Bloodbleeders to fight each-other in a big battle
Ambush and enslave/destroy whoever wins

Get more slaves. Probably by raiding or conquering the now-weakened tribes.
>>
Some metal can be found in the hills, and when it is it is eagerly harvested for use in smithing. As mentioned earlier, the Belchers help with that now too. But there simply isn't enough in the Firey Expanse to make more than a fraction of the tribe's tools metal. As I said, you'll want to scout out the Volcanic Ring for that sort of thing.
>>
>>1174859
Ki wrapped hands?
>>
>>1174874
Imo metal largely irrelevant
Need more slaves for more food so we can have more warriors
1 warrior > 1 axe-head > 1 like > 1 prayer
>>
>>1174875
Sure, but we got to learn how to control our Ki to that point first.

So far all we can do is deflect, fire, and continuous beam.
>>
So, consensus so far:

A few other things that have been mentioned

>Chili is a super-genius gary sue (note, this is hyperbole)

I suppose it can't be helped.

>Should we go out looking for metal desposits in the Volcanic Ring?

No strong opinion on this matter

>Should we attempt another raid? Perhaps more ambitious this time? Or something more dastardly?

Why not ambitious and dastardly? It'd be brutal AND cunning.

>Should we try to improve the efficiency of the slave farms? How?

I dunno. Don't we have some medicinal plants now?

Perhaps institute some kind of protectorate protocol, where stronger warriors of the tribe own a few slaves, and they are responsible for beating up any other person who messes with "their" slaves.

Granted, this would still leave slaves getting abused by their owner.
But at least it'd stop the entire tribe from communally punching slaves in the face / kicking slaves in the crotch for laughs

“Chief,” said Artichoke.

“Artichoke,” said the Chief.

“Congratulations on the infant. What was its name again?”

“Coli.”

“Very similar name to the mother's name, don’t you think?”

“Yes, Chief.”

“A boy or a girl?”

“I don’t know, Chief.”

“What? How do you not know?”

“I haven’t checked yet. Cauli told me the name, though, she was the one that named it. A runt regardless, though, shame about that. They say it might not last a year, so that’s what I told Cauli.”

“I see. That explains the interestingly colored contusion. I imagine she did not take the news well?”

“Eh, she told me to have faith in the runt. I don’t, but I also don’t want to get hit again. Cauli’s a bit old to have another, so I think that’s why she’s so attached to the damn thing. She nearly died herself, what with the fever.”

“Females get like that sometimes. I would know. Say, Artichoke, you aren’t overwhelmed with work, are you?”

“Not at the moment, Chief.”

“Good. Let’s go hun-”

“Not so fast! It’s your turn to clean up the shit!” shouted Zelleri, holding a very dirty Chili.

“But, I need to go on a hunting trip with my Chief’s Second so that I can assure him of my continued esteem for his character and strength, as the bond between individuals at the higher levels of tribal societies is essential for the continued stability and success of the tribe as a whole, not to mention the-”

“Do I look like I care?”

“I-well, no, you don’t look like you care,” said Turnip, as his mate plopped Chili into his arms and then stomped off.

“Har! Well, I’ll be off Chief. Now that you put the idea in my head, can I have the day off to go hunting?”

“I suppose.”

“Right then,” said Artichoke, laughing his way out of the building.

“Well, at least he won’t have to worry about this sort of thing soon enough,” said Turnip, before turning his attention to the baby in his arms. “Hey, aren’t you now capable of basic locomotion and speech? Have any idea when you’ll be capable of wiping your own bum?”

“Eh?” said Chili.

“Nice effort, but ‘eh’ is not a real word. It’s more an exclamation that can have a variety of different meanings depending on the context. Not that I had high expectations of your current ability to grasp such higher concepts. You know what my first world was? ‘Circumlocution’.”

“Eh?” said Chili.

“Eh to you too. Ablution time.”

“Cir-cum-co-lu-tion,” said Chili.

“Now that’s my boy!”

“What does that even mean?” asked Zelleri.

“Imprecise usage of speech,” Turnip responded.

“Is that like what you do all the time?”

“I do not understand the question.”

“Sometimes you launch into these speeches where about half the words you’re saying-”

“Heh, saiyan!” Chili started giggling.

“Ah, my son has the gift of wordplay. I too enjoy a good bon mot now and then.”

“See, you’re doing it right now, sort of. What in all of Salda is a ‘bon mot’?”

“Well, my dear mate, it’s sort of like a witticism, you know.”

“And what’s that?”

“Hmph. A pun.”

“Couldn’t you have just said that?”

“Ah, but it is important to have a vast and variable vocabulary.”

“And what’s that?”

“What’s what?”

“A vocabulary.”

"You know, sort of like a personal lexicon."

“And what’s tha-you know what, I give up.”

“Heh. One’s vocabulary is all the words they know, dear.”

“Once again, couldn’t you have just said that?”

“If I had, I wouldn’t have gotten to see your face all crimson. It is a pleasure of mine, Zelleri. Say, we could maybe put Chili to bed, and then…”

“Have another baby.”

“Well, that’s not really what I meant, that’s actually quite a bit more than I meant, in fact-”

“Do I look like I care?”

“I-well, no, you don’t look like you care.”

“Exactly.”

And so another heir is on the way.

While the usefulness of metal tools and weaponry is unquestioned, the rarity of the material makes them difficult to acquire. Chief Turnip, despite the potential risk of the Dragonclaws, elected to dispatch a small group of only five scouts into the Volcanic Ring in search of metal deposits. The reasons for this were twofold; firstly, a smaller group would lower the risk of detection, and secondly, a smaller group would mean fewer losses if all of them disappeared or died horribly. It is good that he did this, though it would have been less of a mistake not to send anyone.

When the only remaining scout staggered back to camp, he was severely wounded and barely able to carry himself. The Dragonclaws had carved threatening messages into his flesh. Most of them were vulgar, painting a vivid picture of rape, destruction, and un-comparable savagery to be visited upon all who infringe on their territory. It is rather unfortunate, then, that three of the five scouts were female. Turnip doubts that their deaths were quick.

On a much brighter note, the false-flag raid on the Bloodsippers went quite well, igniting another war between them and the Skullcrushers. A small group of men wearing the garbs of Skullcrusher slaves started burning down farms and kidnapping slaves. The Bloodsippers were doubly insulted to be raided by mere slaves. Perhaps if they were less eager for war with the Skullcrushers they would have noticed the deception. What sort of history is behind their feud, anyway Regardless, fifteen slaves were captured in the assault.

The female Stalker cub, having now reached it’s maturity, will be having it’s first litter next year, though the violent nature of Stalker litters means that only a few cubs will live to adulthood. A little like the Saiyans in that respect, actually. It is unknown whether or not Tooth or Claw is the sire, as both mounted her multiple times; Parsnip is taking bets. Tooth has grey fur, and Claw has black. Parsnip plans to ascertain which is the sire by the fur color ratio of the litter.

Speaking of Parsnip, Cauli has begun training him in more general animal care and management. Hopefully he’ll become something of a beast-tamer, if time allows.

Furthermore, in addition to adding several plants with known medicinal qualities to the crops grown by the tribe’s slave-farmers, the slave-farming system has been updated to include field rotation and slave overseers. From now on, a portion of all the tribe’s hunter-gatherers will be dedicated to managing the tribe’s slave population, with one overseer per ten slaves.

This is so cute, it almost makes you forget that he punched a fetus out of his opponents womb and ate it.

Sort of. Part of the problem is that in addition to trying to kill each other, the Stalker can sense ki and will murder any weak cubs that attempt to nurse from her. One more thing for the list Ki healing.

If I remember my DBZ correctly that should be possible.

Might be useful if we can figure it out.
>>
>>1175752
Yeah, it's quite simple in DBZ. Just give someone part of your energy and all their wounds magically heal.

Note that if multiple 'suggestions' on what to learn for ki manipulation come up I will only let you learn one, but I'll be fair and choose it randomly.
>>
>>1175780
Flight.

Huh. For healing what about using slaves as ki batteries? I like the idea of learning this eventually, but selling it to Saiyans is likely to involve framing the idea as "taking strength from the weak to improve the strong" or something.
>>
>>1175806
Not possible. Well, not possible for Saiyans. Some aliens and weird otherworld things can steal other people's ki, but for everyone else ki has to be given willingly, and the slave-farmers have so little of it that they would likely die even if they gave up their energy for free. Recall, these are Saiyan slaves. They are still very prideful.
>>
>>1175817
>They are still very prideful.
But are they hot?
>>
>>1175825
The hot ones are probably the ones that are used the most so that 'hotness' is pretty short lived.

It would be more accurate to ask if they are the ones that heal the quickest or survive the longest during 'playtime'
>>
>>1175825
Anon...they are basically stick figures, barely alive at the best of times and horrifically abused and driven to the service of stronger Saiyans. The fact they even have a modicum of pride left is a testament to the Saiyan spirit.

So I guess, if you're into that...
>>
>>1175843
Nope. However, a breeding program could provide us with more slaves, as distasteful as it is. Turnip should talk it over with Artichoke + the overseers, see if they think it's worth it.
>>
>>1175843
Hrm. We might want to find a way where we can get the slaves better nutrition, but not enough to let them try to uprise.

Stick figures with Malnutrition don't work as hard or as well.
>>
>>1175896
It's possible to start one, but it'll take a bit to fatten up the slaves to the point they could safely have children.

>>1175898

>Internal Hierarchy: The hunters are ranked by strength, with the more powerful automatically being in charge of their lessers.
>Chief Turnip, male. Considered to be quite insane, Turnip usually preaches the value of non-violence and cooperation. Despite being a rampant sociopath in the eyes of his fellow Saiyans, he nonetheless learned some unusually powerful ways of controlling his ki, giving him victory in the leadership tournament. Zelleri's mate. 27 years old. Power level of 410.
>Chief's Son Chili, male. The son of the Chief with his mate, Zelleri. 1.5 year old. Power level of 50.
Cauli's mate. 49 years old. Power level of 380.
>Coli, female. The sickly child of Artichoke, the Chief's Second, and his mate Cauli. 0 years old. Power level of 1.

>Initiation: Children on the cusp of adulthood must go out into the Firey Expanse and procure something of value for the tribe. Whether or not the value of the thing is sufficient is determined by the Chief.

Flying is gay, only high-powered jumping at the most.
>>
>>1176504
My reasoning: Being up in the air exposes your position to opponents, and gets rid of any leverage you can on the ground. Stationary flying targets that can't use their physical power without trying a stranglehold are good for target practice, and that's about it.
>>
>>1176212
i say we start a daily training regime which 2 people of almost equal skill pair up, such as antichoke and turnip. Once paired they begin sparring in a non-lethal duel to the near death and let the saiyan near death regen that increases take effect and we can get exponentially stronger and stronger.
much like vegeta did on namek in DBZ
>>
I just realized something, Maybe we can dig build into a Hill or start a base on the 'top' of a hill, and build into it. It would allow us to watch the area around us, train and heal our serverly wounded in peace and ensure nobody could raid our shit without REAL effort.
>>
>>1176991
1. There's an extremely good chance that the loser will just die. Beating someone to "near death" is really not possible with cave man level medical technology. Vegeta and Goku were only able to pull that off with magic healing tanks that could turn people from near death to 100% perfectly healthy in less than a day and a magic alien with undefined healing powers.

2. That reeks of gamesmenship and meta knowledge.
>>
>>1176756
That doesn't really work with DBZ flying, which lets you get leverage in the air, and use as much physical power as you need, though.
>>
so yeah. The bloods and the skulls aren't that much of a threat right now seeing as they are to busy fighting amongst themselves to really notice us and from what little fighting we have down with them we seem to outclass them a bit. But the dragons and the mystery tribe to the north do leave me a little worried so I think we should actually start training up actual solders. Just grab some of the older and more experienced hunters we have, give them some of our better weapons and armor, train them to actually fight better and know how to use more tactics then just block and dodge and make a small but strong fighting force do deal with the really tough problems. Turnip and Artichoke can take turns between training up the solders and running the day to day needs of the village.

this sound like a good idea or no?

>>1176756

hey speaking of heavy shit, I got an idea for better armor that might actually be in our reach. Use the bones of animals we've slain weaved through the fur and leather armor we already have. you'd think someone would have gotten pissed enough to grab the trophy claw of a dead stalker and run it through someone though, right? I mean hell, the cannon saiyan race learned space flight after buying the technology off a passing alien/ stealing what remained of the tuffle's tech because they figured it would let them fight anywhere.

>>1178255
Given how the Saiyans used the same pods, same armor and same scouters as everyone else Frieza was commanding I don't think it can be fairly said they'd actually gained Space Flight as a technology. I think Frieza's gear was idiot proof.

I don't mean to say that Saiyans are any less potentially intelligent than any human when I say dumb. I mean that they have such an inclination towards brutality as the solution to pretty much everything that incentivizing them to stop and think is pretty much all uphill battle.

They're like Krogans that can fly. If Saiyans worked out atomic weaponry they'd probably nuke themselves.

They've also apparently got a surprisingly lack of difference in psychology between the men and women. They're all basically bastards, regardless of their junk.
>>
Might I also make another suggestion?
Digging.
Attack the enemies from below.
Like turnips and other root-vegetables we shall fight a guerilla-war with the very ground they stand on as our ally.
>>
>>1178270
maybe if we got slaves to dig it could work as I don't think our hunters would have the patience to dig a tunnel rather then just running head first at the enemy. I mean we might be able to dig holes, cover the holes with leaves and grass and then use this holes to ambush people and animals but again not to sure if our hunters could actually sit still long enough to actually pull this off.
>>
>>1178279
We could have Turnip do it, if anyone asks he says it's training. It might catch on but this tactic wouldn't work on that one tribe that can ki sense, also this strategy would work really well if we had ki sense.
>>
>>1178572

What happened to hiding your powerlevel?
I suppose we need to have a case where someone within the tribe can sense another one, when he is sneaking up on someone else...
Or something like that anyway.
>>
Apologies, it seems I won't be able to update until later today, so forget about the 11am thing. Really sorry about that, it's just, you know, extenuating circumstances called.

However I'll leave you with a few things:

Zenkai spam will not be allowed. It's boring and makes things easier. Zenkai will come into play, of course, as unlike Toriyama did I haven't forgotten about it, but it will be in a reasonable manner so that you can't abuse it. Once you have instant magic healing tanks like in the Namek Saga, sure, but not right now.
>>
Can we give Coli some of our power?
>>
>>1178582
I think we'd have to discover ki sensing first before we can learn how to hide it. I mean how are we supposed to know to hide it if we don't even know it's a thing in the first place. Plus if can't sense ki then it's kind of hard to also know if someone has lowered their power level enough for it to fade into the background.

We need to unite the clans to fight the dragonshitters. Think long term here. We are playing right into their hands by sparking war between our other two neighbors. We need to do some diplomacy and either form an alliance or subjugate them before the dragon niggers start expanding south.

We also need intel on dragon shits.

Pls set up meeting with the chiefs east of us.
>>
>>1180015
We're Sayians anon, our diplomacy starts with slavery and ends with cannibalism.

The only way we could unite the clans is to destroy them and take them by force. They wouldn't follow us any other way.

Imagine a game of civilization where everyone was Gandhi, including you.
>>
>>1180015
the closest thing I think we could get to peace talks with the saiyans would be for our chief to challenge another tribe's chief and beat his ass down in front of both tribes and then have the losing side join the winning side., but that's assuming the other tribes also have the strong rule type government like our tribe does. If not then we could always just fall back to the traditional way of sacking the other tribes, stealing everything and everyone and then get the slave tournaments going and seeing if we can't get some decent fighters out of that.
>>
>>1180015
>Diplomacy
>Saiyans

>>
>>1180015
I think the best compromise would be to back the Bloodsippers against the Skullcrushers, then throw them at the Dragonclaws as fodder while we build our forces up. Or we can just enslave/recruit both sides in the same manner we did the Bloodhounds, only without them coming to us first.
>>
>>1180037
>We're Sayians anon, our diplomacy starts with slavery and ends with cannibalism.
False.
>The only way we could unite the clans is to destroy them and take them by force. They wouldn't follow us any other way.
We could make them vassals using the necessary amount of force . We could also make a temporary alliance by highlighting the threat we face from dragon shits. I'm just saying, we need to commit to one option and do it quickly. One is stronger than three.
>>1180046
>If not then we could always just fall back to the traditional way of sacking the other tribes, stealing everything and everyone and then get the slave tournaments going and seeing if we can't get some decent fighters out of that.
Slaves are never going to be a decent source of fighters. Resources used to make them a decent source of fighters would be better allocated on other things. It's not 2017, people. Let's forget about class mobility or being nice to them.

Let's just unite the two eastern tribes. I don't care how we do it so long as it is done fast.
>>
>>1180080
Nah, the Dragonsclaws seem keen on staying in the mountains. There's no need to rush to a conflict with them.

We just need to wait till we get some sort of advantage that can overcome their metal weapons and then we'll strike.
>>
>>1180103
>Slaves are never going to be a decent source of fighters.
no shit, but our tribe has never cared about numbers, just strength. I mean we have the "only the strong breed" trait which makes it that we have less kids then we normally would but the ones we do have are stronger then what we'd normally get as well. If you're really worried about the dragons then just train up our men so that 1 of our tribesmen can take out at least of dozen of theirs. Kinda why I'm trying to push for an actual solder class instead of just a bunch of chuckle fuck hunters playing solder.
>>
>>1180103
>Slaves are never going to be a decent source of fighters
To expand on why: we do not want slaves who can fight. We want slaves who are good at slave labor, and should encourage them to focus on slave labor, and not fighting, as in that case there is less risk of rebellion. Any strong foreign fighters we come across should be made allies, made to join our tribe as freemen, or killed. The Spartans let the helots to choose 2000 of their best to claim freedom, who they then killed, as they thought those more likely to claim their freedom would be the most willful and likely to cause future rebellion.

They are to be totally subjugated. We do not want to encourage in them any ambition to join our tribe. I think those contests are dumb ideas because they encourage such ambitions. Any ambitious slaves should be killed.

We could do a Rape of the Sabine women thing where we forcefully integrate two tribes with tumbling.

>Training men in professional combat
>A secret third thing

Writing.
>>
>>1181115

Scouts were directed to monitor the war between the Bloodsipper and Skullcrusher tribes for any potential opportunities. While they were distracted fighting each other, the tribe managed to steal a few of their slaves, an action the tribes swiftly blamed on each other. The battles are growing larger by the day. According to the captured slaves, the chiefs of the two tribes have agreed to finally settle their dispute with a duel between themselves, the losing tribe being entirely subsumed into the winning. The threat of two united tribes is not one that our own tribe can ignore for long, lest we be boxed in between the northern tribe, the united southern and eastern tribes, and the Dragonclaws to the west. Perhaps something could be done to dispose of these feuding tribal chiefs? Ten slaves have been added to the tribe.

Chief Turnip also began a complicated process of reforming the military of the Crimson Zelleris Or, perhaps more accurately, actually creating a professional military in the first place, as opposed to letting the hunters serve a dual purpose. These reforms will require constant adjustment and management to be successful; Artichoke advises that they may take a couple years to wrap around the hunter’s heads. In the mean time, decisions must be made as to the internal structure and set-up of these professional warriors.

A litter of Stalker cubs was born to the sole female Stalker of the tribe. Those who bet on Claw being the father of the litter were sorely disappointed when they came out with mostly grey fur; Parsnip was pleased regardless to have more cubs around. It’s almost cute to see how he obsesses over them, still treating Tooth and Claw as if they were cubs themselves instead of massive killing machines of pure and muscled flesh.

To the mild chagrin of the Chief’s Second and the great pleasure of Cauli, Coli is not dead yet. She weakly clings on to life. Her mother would describe it as with an iron grip, her father as with a cloth grip, yet it remains a grip. Whether or not she will live is still uncertain. Zelleri and Chief Turnip’s second child will be born soon.

That was the only question that Avocado had left in him. The last few hours had been some of the most stressful in his life.

“We are still trying to determine the cause of her illness. Now back off, and let us do our work.”

In front of him, surrounded by a cavalcade of older females, lay his mate, Okra. She’d been struck by a fever during the night, one that had not abated no matter the medicines given to her. And even now, as dawn rose over the village, her fever was only worsening. Convulsions had stricken her body, and she could no longer even speak. Her stare was blank and unfocused, her eyes darting around wildly and yet still looking through rather than at anything.

A few tense moments passed, before they announced the verdict.

“Poison.”

“What?”

“Poison. Only poison could have done this, and a slow-acting one at that. It must have entered her around yesterday morning. Did she drink anything then?”

“I don’t know,” said Avocado, still sweating nervously, “I was out hunting this morning. I did not return until the night.”

“Damn.”

“What’s wrong?”

“If it was poisoned water, then it could be possible others are being affe-”

Just then, the Chief’s Second Artichoke burst through the door of the healers’ hut.

“We have a problem.”

Within days, a huge number of tribe members were afflicted with the sickness. No one knew what sort of sickness it was, but all those affected were on the east side of the village and gathered water from a certain stream nearby that few others in the village drank from. It appeared that someone, possibly a dissident from within the tribe or a saboteur from without, had spread a strange poison in the stream. A very, very strange poison, as it did not kill its victims. Not quickly at least.

No, those with the sickness did not die, but merely rested on the very edge of such, balanced on the brink of life and death itself. Among their number included Okra, one of the tribe’s strongest hunters. Her mate Avocado had to be restrained from murdering Potato, whom he suspected of being the poisoner. Chief Turnip had his doubts. If he wanted to kills Okra, he need not have taken others with her.

But someone did do this. The question is: who?

Send scouts to check up stream, isolate the sick into groups and give each group a different treatment.

One kept the same as the current treatment

have another be fed new plants we haven't tried yet

the third have some of the stronger hunters channel ki into them.(Start trying to figure out ki healing)

>>
>>1181383
send someone to check up stream to see if their is anything that could have poisoned the water. Also start searching the landscape for any planets that looks like they could help or hell do anything other then just being a plant. Keep the hunters in groups incase someone is targeting the village and maybe up patrols a little around the village itself. We're also might have to send a group to deal with the two waring tribes before they become one as well as them make friends and turning their sights towards us while a good chunk of our village is down would be very bad. Maybe see if we can't find some way to get our chief to join in the fight as well so we can take two tribes at once with little risk to ourselves.

Agree with this. We may have had disagreements with Okra in the past, but she's still one of our best fighters. If anything else, we gotta make sure she and the other strong ones who're sick survive.

“Are you sure you want to do this?” asked Artichoke.

To be fair, it was not an unwarranted question. The intelligence gathered on the Bloodsippers’ and Skullcrushers’ respective chiefs was very little. The Bloodsippers’ was a female, and the Skullcrushers’ a male, but beyond that, estimates of their strength were nonexistent. Presumably they were both the strongest of their tribes. This was something everyone at this impromptu war council was well aware of. Chief Turnip included.

“I must,” responded Turnip.

He looked at the faces surrounding him. To his right was Artichoke, as always, and to his left would have been Avocado and Okra, his strongest hunters. With Avocado still being restrained and Okra struck by the sickness, neither was present. Instead, his mate Zelleri was in their place. Potato was absent for similar reasons, leaving only Cauli, Cumber, and Parsnip to fill the round table. Such gatherings of the tribe’s strongest were rare.
And as he looked at each in turn, he saw nothing but pure apprehension.

“With all due respect, Chief. Are you sure this is wise?” asked Parsnip, though his mentor Cauli swiftly hit him on the head as a rebuke.

“Not even remotely. Nevertheless, this is the only way admissible to me. The Saiyan way. All of you should understand this. I may be strange. I may be unorthodox in both my methods and my speech. But I am a Saiyan as well. Any number of alternative courses presented themselves. We could have slew the Bloodsippers and Skullcrushers as soon as they were weakened due to their petty, inter-tribal warring. We could have avoided starting this conflict in the first place until we were assured of our victory. It was the actions of our tribe that ignited this conflict, lest we forget. We could have and perhaps should have let me remain here, all safe and comfortable within the walls of our village. Yet we shall not do such a thing, because of our race and our pride. I will challenge the victor of their duel, because I am a warrior and that is the way of warriors. To fight, not to bide our time or waste our strength on hesitation and deliberation. I am the strongest of the Crimson, and I will not rest on my laurels while there is a fight out there waiting for me!”

His words prompted a silence...

…a brief one, as after just a few seconds Zelleri began laughing in an almost hysterical matter.

“I-what’s so funny?”

“No, seriously, I do not understand why this situation is so humorous to you.”

“May I tell you why I think she’s laughing, Chief?” asked Cumber.

“Very well. I suppose I should, in moments like this, consult on expert of female matters.”

“It’s because you’re doing it again.”
“Pardon?”

“You know, the thing where you start giving a really long speech.”

“Oratorical ability is one of the most important skills for a leader to possess.”

“Eh, what does ‘oratorical’ mean, Chief?”

“I swear, I am a living in a village of simpletons. I am going to fight and that is final. Artichoke will direct the village in my absence. Cumber, Parsnip. You two will accompany me to the dueling grounds as a guard. Should I die-and I won’t, but should I-Chili and my unborn child are to be provided for by Artichoke, who is my designated heir by right of being the strongest in the village. Now, all of you leave and begin preparations, except for Zelleri. I must speak with her in private.”

The war council shuffled out of the room, leaving only the Chief and his mate, who by now had her laughter replaced by solemnity.

“So. You’re leaving.”

“I am. That is why I requested to speak with you in private. It is my understanding that it is customary for those mutually experiencing the romantic form of the complex electro-chemical reactive processes involved in the emotion communicated in the Saiyan language as ‘love’ to engage in acts of farewell-ship expressing the complexity of these processes to one another.”

“What?”

“I love you. Goodbye.”

“Eh?!”

“Now, as the advanced state of your pregnancy excludes us from participating in reproductive activities repurposed for recreation, we should instead collide the tactile sensory organs located on our faces in a manner meant to stimulate the frontal and infraorbital nerves present there.”

“What?”

“Let’s kiss.”

It was at that moment that Zelleri smiled sweetly, before shoving her fist into Turnip’s solar plexus to sting, but not cause any permanent damage.

“I love you, too, asswipe. Come back a winner or you’re dead. Literally.”

“Sister.”

“Brother.”

On the pre-set dueling grounds, Chief Korn of the Skullcrushers and Chief Maize of the Bloodsippers stared each other down.

“How goes your tribe, sister?”

“How goes your tribe, brother?”

Korn frowned.

“Stop copying me.”

“Stop copying me,” his sister replied.

“I’m serious.”

“I’m serious.”

“No, really.”

“No, rea-”

“Oh for fuck’s sake,” shouted Turnip, “would the two of you get on with it already? I’ve been waiting here for over and hour for this fight to start and now that we have both of you in the arena all you’re doing is acting like children instead of chiefs. GET ON WITH IT!”

“Hmph. Patience is a virtue, Chief Turnip,” said Maize.

“Shut up, Maize. Patience is for the weak,” Korn added.

“Patience is something that I am running out of swiftly. ON. WITH. IT.”

“Fine. Are you ready, brother?”

“Ready to beat you into the ground? Yes. Just so you know, Maize, when I’m done with you I’m going to personally impregnate all the females in your village while forcing you to watch. And make you the personal slave of my second, while I’m at it. Though, now that I think of it, maybe I should reserve you for myself.”

“I think you might be mistaking confidence and arrogance, brother. You are clearly displaying the second here. When I’m done with you I’m going to personally castrate all the males in your village while forcing you to watch, then I’m going to do the same to you. Then you’ll be my slave.”

“Nuh-uh. I’m going to beat you.”

“Nope. I’m going to beat you, brother.”

“Please. Please, for the sake of all of Salda, just fight already,” said Turnip, at this point nursing an oncoming headache.”

“Gladly,” said both of the twin chiefs, in unison.
The fight started rather unspectacularly with a flurry of blows. Now that it actually began, Turnip made sure to pay close attention to the fight for any hint of weaknesses. Exploiting them would help him win his own fight with the victor. And besides, it made for good entertainment.

After parrying his sister’s punch, Korn launched a kick at her windpipe. This was narrowly avoided, and given a roundhouse in return. This was deflected by Korn, who proceeded to use this temporary advantage to grab hold of his sister’s leg. Unfortunately, Maize proved nimble enough to flip herself over and bring her brother crashing down to the ground. Korn, winded by this, nonetheless had enough strength to fling her off of him. He took the reprieve as a way to catch his breath. The chiefs appeared evenly matched, each attack meeting a counterattack of equal strength. This battle would not be over in just a few minutes.

>Cont.
>>
>>1182582
Roughly five hours later, both of the Chiefs were on their last legs.

“Heh, tired yet, sister?”

“Heh, tired yet, brother?”

“WHAT DID I SAY ABOUT COPYING ME?!”

“SCREW YOU KORN, I DO WHAT I WANT!”

“Look,” said Chief Turnip, glancing at the setting sun, “at this point both of you are limping. Why don’t you both just surrender to me?”

“Why in the hell would we surrender to you?”

“Because I,” Turnip prepared to launch a ki beam, “can do this.”

The ki beam went across the grounds towards the nearby hill, blowing it up in a massive explosion of fire, dirt and grass. Korn and Maize seemed shocked by the sight.

“What in all of Salda is that?” asked Korn.

“Can we learn how to do that?” asked Maize.

“It’s called a ki beam, and yes, you can learn how to do it. But only if you bow down to me as your superior chief.”

“Done,” said both twins in unison.

“What?”

“Done. I can easily beat Maize if I can do that! And if the Skullcrushers become your part of your tribe then we could learn to do it.”

“Screw you, Korn. If the Bloodsippers become part of your tribe, Chief Turnip, then we can learn how to do that, right? So I’m fine with it.”

“Right, well how about you both join my tribe, and in return I teach it to both of you? Then you two will be able to have another great, and also probably excruciatingly long, fight.”

And thus goes the story of the first tribal conquest of the Crimson Zelleris.

>>1182691
Well shit.
Now we have to decide how to integrate them

The obvious thing to do would be to let each one manage their own village and just take a tax/tithe of warriors for our raids and slaves for our farms.
This means we'd effectively have 3 villages to maintain, with the southern two wanting to krump each-other.

The other thing to do would be to redistribute their populations. Separate the Zelleri population between 2 of the 3 villages.
Split the bloods and skulls up, so that the population in one is 60% Zelleri 40% Blood, and one is 60% Zelleri and 40% Skull.
Keep the most compliant of the Bloods and Skulls for this, along with any of them that have particularly useful talents.

The other Bloods and Skulls? They crowd into the 3rd village, and have less slaves for farming. With overcrowding and not enough slaves for food, plus their prior grudges, they'll inevitably turn on each-other.
Keep the least compliant and most rebellious of them in here. All the hotheads with a point to prove. ... Well, hotheads by saiyan standards.
>>
>>1182691
Meanwhile, back at the village, Chief’s Second Artichoke was busy at work investigating the cause of the sickness. According to one of the slave-farmers on the east side of the village, he and a few others had spotted a shadowy figure taking a shit in the poisoned stream. This was concerning for a multitude of reasons. The first was that it seemed eerily similar to the scouts’ report that a shadowy figure seemed to have followed them back from the northern tribe.

The second was that the figure was not a Saiyan, but, once again according to the slave-farmer, some sort of weird thing.

“What sort of ‘weird’ thing?” asked Artichoke.

“I dunno,” said the slave. “Just, weird, I guess. Shadowy, and all that. A little dark, you know.”

After accepting the simultaneously helpful and unhelpful slave’s testimony, Artichoke consulted with the older females in the healer’s hut. They have no idea what sort of thing it might be, but they did say that shitting in water sources can cause illnesses. One theorized that since it was some weird thing and not a Saiyans, perhaps it’s weirdness cause it’s shit to be especially hazardous to Saiyans. With this additional insight, Artichoke remained stumped.

On the bright side, the condition of the sick was improving. While they still could not move unaided, they began to talk and respond to outside stimuli as normal. Most of this was due to the medical care showed by the healers. By necessity somewhat overstretching his authority, he ordered the healers to become full time carers of the sick rather than only in their spare time. Ten female hunters were set aside for this task.

Unfortunately, no herb or medicine seemed to really help those stricken by sickness. All that could be done, for now, was to keep them alive.

“Damn you, Turnip!”

“He’s not here, you know,” said Cauli, even as Zelleri crushed her hand in her iron grip.

“I know. But this still his fault!”

“I thought you told me you were the one who wanted to have another child.”

“Yeah, well, he put the idea into my head, that crazy, sexy bastard!”

“Right.”

Thankfully, the birth went rather smoothly, and out popped a healthy baby girl. (with a power level of 20)

“I suppose I’ll name it, since Turnip isn’t around this time. Ah, damn it, look at that, she’s cute, she is. Look’s just like me, but with her father’s black hair. I guess she’s Chili’s opposite. Oh, hell, I’m shit at names. You have an idea, Cauli?”

“Yes, actually, how about…”

“Ooh, that’s a good one. Thanks.”

“Your welcome. Oh, so I meant to tell you. I had a chat with the healers. About Coli. They say they figured out something about her condition they didn’t know until now.”

“And what’s that?”

“It’s the same as the sick.”

“Really? But she didn’t drink water from the east side stream. You and Artichoke live next to us. Why would she have it?”

“I don’t know. They healers don’t know either. You’re right, she never drank from the stream…I just don’t know.”

Saiyans really aren't that smart.

My guess is it's one of the weaker males who can't get laid or something.
>>
The Saiyans used to all be unified under the bravest one of them all, a male named Kakarot. Under Kakarot's leadership, the Saiyan kingdom of Kakazan thrived, and the palace of Shuilian proved even more of a paradise than Heaven itself. Wary of Kakarot's arrogant expansion of violent conquest, celestials sent emissaries to the king in hopes that he would relent on his violent conquest and plundering. Unwilling to back down to Divine Authority, Kakarot challenged the Supreme Kais, and... beat them to a pulp! However, the God of Destuction flicked him with all five fingers and Kakarot was eroded into stardust. The Saiyans were put down and split up into tribes once more, with Kakarot's soul being held in reserve for when its reintroduction via reincarnation could do the most good for the Universe.
>>
It could be Avocado.

> implying he wouldn't lie about that

Anyway.

May I?
Assuming that Avocado did it brings me only to one conclusion.

Either he had no idea what he was doing, or he knows EXACTLY what he was doing. And one does not just simply a watersource with shit.

I'll just talk out of my ass for a minute and say that this sickness isn't so bad for the saiyans.

Either you survive, or you don't. Those who didn't survive didn't deserve to live in the first place. They were weak.

Even assuming Avocado did it out of spite or hate or revenge or other cowardish motives, we should embrace them in a manly hug, simply because the tribe just grows stronger because of it. Not in quantity, but quality.

And, if I may ask, are saiyans the kind of people to hold grudges?
Maybe.
...
And then I noticed that our 2nd in command was NOT infact Avocado, but Antichok. You can see this mistake being made, right?

So let's blow off their other leg!
Or just hold a trial.
As any civilized Turnip would do.
Of course, nobody said it would be a FAIR trial.
Just want to see how creative the tribe is, in terms of punishment.
(As for evidence, if the shadowy figure was limping, evidence. If the kid (Coli) went missing or was taken into Avocado's care, evidence. If he is not sick, evidence. Iif he IS sick, one of the first cases, sooo very much fucking evidence. I could go on, but please, I want to see your opinion on the matter.
It's simple as that, and if we can find a set of clothing matching the description we can either say it was them, or they were framed.
Witness testimonies is where it's at.)

I also like the name Bell. Just throwing that out there.

Anyway, might I give a suggestion for the kids personality?

If Turnip is considered insane, X would most certainly considered in-saiyan.

I'm setting up for a dedicated enthusiast. Enthusiastic trainee especially. Fighting when need to, just like the dad. A good bodyguard as such.
But said enthusiasm might also allow for defensive or supporting upgrades to the tribe. Try to make those fuckos build a hut, all they will ask is "does it help me beat shit up?"

Well, it's just my opinion. Add your own thoughts to it, in the end that's all I'm... 'Saiyan'.

I want to make Korn and Maize mates, unless they're actually siblings then I'll go against it. I think we should pack all their resources and move them to our village and properly expand.
