In a short time, a world can change. In a longer time, it becomes unrecognizable.
You’ve slumbered for a long time. How you fell asleep, you cannot remember, but what you do remember is that there are thousands of others. Yes, you all sealed yourself together into many rooms, safely underground, beneath the great Ziggurat. You were all given pendants, and upon putting yours on, your memory blacks out.
But now you’re awake, and you open your eyes. It’s dark, the torches must have gone out a long time ago. Fortunately, you belong to the priest caste and were taught magic. You create a floating light, and soon find out why you had lost your memory: You were petrified.
Every single naga in the room with you are petrified, except for you. As you look down, you notice your own pendant has shattered and turned to dust. The enchantment placed on it broke with it.
It is strange indeed, as you were all told you would be awoken by the great Naga God in paradise.
What do you do?
>Look for a way out of this room.
>Attempt to unpetrify the rest of your kin.
>Write-in
A while ago somebody started a civ about naga and abandoned it not long after. I’m going to try and make something out of it because fuck it, it’s too good potential to pass out on. Starting scenario will be different though.
I will post if I will retire / stop posting and most likely specify when I’ll be back. If I don’t continue the quest I will post it instead of acting like shitty qm’s who just abandon thread without a word.

You glance once more over the room. It looks exactly like before you all were petrified, except it seems more.. worn out and unstable. The only door, made out of stone, in this room had been shut close from the outside. The door breaks, even crumbles by pushing. It makes you wonder what could make stone crumble so deep underground.

The room you enter is a long hall, accompanied with doors to many similar rooms as the one where you woke up. To your great sorrow, many of them had their doors broken down and the naga inside, in pieces. The magical enchantment seems to kept it all as stone, sparing you from a very gruesome sight.

You notice many oil pedestals, which used to bring light into the halls, still have oil in them. Relighting them would only require a magical spark.

What do you do?
>Explore this place. It seems to have changed since last time.
>Search for provisions. Survival comes first.

You figure that you need to explore more first. You start lighting up the oil pedestals, their soft fire illuminating the halls in yellow. While you remember the structure of this place well enough, many cave-ins and other obstacles make it harder for you to navigate.

>>1166595
While exploring, you find some dead bodies, or rather, what’s left of them. They’re clearly not naga, but something with two legs. They’re skeletons now and have battered and shattered armor on them. Something seems to have killed them.

>>1166558
You find a weapon storage! It’s even all intact! Except, around a third of the equipment is gone. But, you have a wide variety of weapons to choose from.

Which weapons do you take? (Can carry max. 3)

I went naginata due to polearm love and while I considered the halberd the Naga naginata name similarity tipped the scale. And figured a bow might be useful at some point.

personally i advice against a bow, considering it's mostly made out of organic material and most likely didn't receive the attention and care to be a reliable weapon. Not to mention we are for the foreseeable future indoors.

>>1166735
I personaly see the halberd as the far superiror weapon, the name similarity didn't spring to my mind at all.

so yeah i stick with
>halberd (or naginata I don't think that it will change anything)
>longsword
Just a great weapon, useable in doors unlike the greatsword and just overall probably the best weapon in most situations that might come up.
>dagger
it's the swiss army knife of murder weapons
>>
Rolled 49 (1d100)

>>1166767
Dagger, Shortsword, Spear

>>1166771
Halberd vs Naginata does change things, as the halberd can be used to hook shields and legs in order to gain an advantage, as well as being far heftier.
>>
>>1166776
I wouldn't use the Halberd against the naginata

But in comparison it's just the better weapon, especially since it covers the situations where we won't use our sword in the first place.
>>
>>1166790
I agree, and I didn't say that the halberd was better, just that it had more heft to it.
>>
You decide on the three most important weapons: A naginata, a longsword, and a dagger. No matter what distance, you’ll be prepared.

Being coldblooded has its advantages, but you still need sustenance. This place is dry, much drier than you remember. You figure descending further down below is best, as there is (or was?) an underground freshwater lake.

>>1166776
You make it underground, but from a completely different angle than what you expected at first. While the tunnels aren’t extensive, they can be a maze sometimes.

Underground you see the familiar lake, with a few islands rising from it. There’s no steam coming from it however, not like how you remember. Perhaps the land below has cooled off? It would explain the dryness.

Before the lake is a large plaza and housing carved from stone. It would be ideal for resettlement.

Everything seems to be wonderful so far, but something’s nagging at your mind, yet you don’t know what it is.

>Water! Slither quickly and drink!
>Continue cautiously.
>Go back.
>Write-in

The oil pedestals stop at the entrance you stand too. Fortunately, the faint light should be seen from across the extensive underground lake.

You proceed cautiously. Who knows what may lurk here now?

You slither down towards the abandoned plaza, while keeping to rocks and walls, your naginata in your arms. Nothing moves, nothing appears in your sight. Perhaps you are too paranoid?

But then, you notice something moving. Were it not for the odd glowing fungus in their arms, you might have missed them. You look closer and identify them as ratfolk! What insolence, what do they think they are doing, strutting about in your homeland?! Much time seems to have passed.

Looks like there’s two ratfolk moving around the plaza, no doubt looking for anything of use.

You have the advantage, so you decide not to pursue them. You look up at the ceiling, which is very faintly illuminated by orange lights. Somewhere the land is still active, you think. The two skaven continue to brood, until they decide to split and search separately. Now is your chance, and you slither down. The pair didn’t stand a chance.

The first one you snuck up from behind, slitting its throat silently. Blood drained from the skaven’s body, ceremonially splattering onto one of the surviving naga statues on the plaza.

The second one you approach from behind and stab it at the lower spine, completely severing its control over its legs. The skaven collapses, about to scream, but you grab it by its throat, preventing it from producing any sounds. With just a little more power, you could simply crush it.

“Tell me ssskaven, do you know where you are?” you hiss. You let go a little bit, allowing the skaven to respond.

“T-Theis’s an old snake temple, long abandoned!” the skaven trembles. “There was supposed to be nobody here!”

While you still feel pressured with the skaven around, your thirst overwhelms you. Being turned from stone to flesh again after hundreds of years has left you in a slight state of shock. You slither towards the water, and simply plunge your head inside the water. The lake had provided your people with water during the era you were in, and other life lived in it peacefully. Mostly reptiles and other scaley beings like yourself, which is why it was named the Serpentine Lake.

>65
You bring your head out of the water, feeling euphoric. The moment doesn’t last long as you hear a voice calling from near the plaza! You lay low and observe: One of the other skaven is looking for its friends, and if nothing done, will find the corpse of one of his friends, with the blood adorning the naga statue.

Your eyes narrow, a malevolent frown forming on your face.

“Death,” you simply hiss, and attack the skaven. The gods are on your side (why wouldn’t they be?), as your attack takes the skaven by surprise and you impale its gut, cutting upwards. Behind you the last remaining skaven screams ‘no!’

“Sssuch insssolenssse… ssstepping on our ancient sssoil. Only judgement awaitsss you here, rodent,” you say as you turn your naginata around, spinning it artfully in your arms. The skaven turns tail and tries to escape. You are faster however, and like the predator you are, you close in on the fleeing rat, and cast forth your fangs.

And so, all the prey has fallen.

Peace and silence returns to the underground sanctuary. While checking the corpses for anything worthy, you find pieces of a strange currency, along with your own old golden coins. They also had a drawing, of a great golden statue. You recognize of whom the statue is immediately: Medushala, the “Gorgon” Princess. The final descendant and heir to the Naga dynasty before everybody was put to sleep, or rather, petrified. Perhaps this statue may hold some clue.

The skaven also have various small tools, like hammers, knives, rope, very crude but practical stuff. Most useful are the bags you got from each. You store your newfound items in one of these bags.

With meat around now, you decide it’s time to both eat and secure some provisions. You eat one of the dead skaven, satiating your hunger, and use your dagger to skin the other skaven, chopping their meat into pieces. Using your magic you dry them, and the end result is skaven jerky.

The remaining skaven (and still alive) remains unconscious. He should provide a good source of information on how the world is now later on, so you secure his binds again, just in case.

So now your thoughts focus the statue. It seems to be of importance and may answer questions regarding the current situation, and why you were the only one to wake up.

To your surprise, the temple has remained very well intact, with only minor damage. Your instinct tells you you’re in the correct place, given also how the strange presence has grown. You enter the ceremonial hall and there you find the golden statue. You slither forth, and then feel your muscles clench. You can’t move!

“Why have you awoken my servant? Why do you wake me?” a voice rings in your head, no doubt coming from the statue.

“I don’t know why Iss woke up,” you say, “but I ssseek guidanssse. Our kin have died in chambersss, sshattered into piecesss.”

“This cannot be, the chambers were sealed!” the voice hisses angrily. “But I sense truth in your words. Something.. has gone wrong.”

You feel your muscles relax, and you can move again. Before you, the golden statue seems to crack. The golden layer fades away, and in place of the statue, stands Princess Medushala.

“Take me to my people,” she asks.

>Lead her straight to the chambers.
>Offer her skaven jerky.
>Bring her to the injured skaven.

After showing the state of the Ziggurat and her people, Medushala was appalled. Things had gone awry, the enchantments that should have preserved both the whole structure and the rooms individually, had failed. Filled with rage, she decides on unpetrifying all who are still intact. The process takes some time, but in the end, you have gathered a well-sized amount of naga. You settle with them underground by the lake, at the plaza, by moving most of the rubble first away and repurposing the housings.

Settlement stats:
Population:
>120 Worker Caste (Good at building)
>120 Warrior Caste (Good at killing)
>60 Priest Caste (Good at leading, magic and research)

Resources: (Allocating 5 workers brings +1 production. Need a source for the resource.)
>Nutrition: 60 (+20) (Need to sustain population, 1 per 10 pop.)
>Industry: 40 (+4) (Building material)
>Research: 0 (+0) (Need to advance or reopen tech/magic)
>Luxury: 0 (+0) (Commerce and other materials of value)

I’ll be using a system I had created for a bigger and more in-depth civ, but simplified.

After two weeks of rebuilding and settling down, you’ve managed to get a good settlement running. While Medushala is their noble leader, it is you to whom people go for guidance. You’ve become the Head Priest of your people as well as the settlement ruler. The priests work directly with you and help maintain control over the settlement. The princess trained herself 20 royal guards to accompany her.

What kind of leader do you want to be?
>We must first sustain ourselves. (Emphasis on Nutrition)
>A strong army and strong tools are essential. (Emphasis on Industry)
>We must reclaim our lost knowledge and thus, better our society. (Emphasis on Research)
>We are small, we need to establish a commerce to get what we want. (Emphasis on Luxury)

What are you called?
>Szarco
>Ishezhe
>Krilusa

You, the great Python will lead this small but strong-willed civilization to prosperity through your greater understanding of the world.

>Research bonus: Research production capacity of resources are doubled.

Of course, restoration of the faith is important as well. An altar is erected at the center of the plaza, where fellow naga come to pray and socialize. The statue of your patron deity, Zurzal, was found and fittingly put near the altar. Now the Goddess of Insight and Dominion watches over your people, no doubt granting you her blessing.

nice thread bro, keep the good working
i guess we need to go out of the cave and see what is outside

Yes, I really like management sims with umpredictable situations mixed in to keep us on our toes

I liked your thread very much.

What I intend to do, anons willing, is set up food production and explore the nearby regions to se whats what.

Also, try to recover our relics and tomes that survived the passing of time to better develop our culture and research before our people get used to the hardships presented by this situation and firget that we belong to an advanced and majestic empire.

Finally, contact our least edible neighbors to stablish diplomatic relations on this new world
