Training And Distractions

Character info pastebin in progress: http://pastebin.com/iB0tb7rz
Dice cheat sheet: http://pastebin.com/994WTT3g

General rules:

There is a 10 minute voting period after each post. Non-contradictory votes will be combined as best as possible.

Write-ins for all votes are always welcome and encouraged. They may not all make it into the post or be altered to fit in, but I'll do my best to at least try to address the spirit of the write-in.

Very important or contentious votes may be redone in a stricter voting system as circumstances warrant.

Combat mechanics involve three rolls of 1d100, taking the best, and using the base accuracy and crit ranges of the game, roughly, but the 'turn order' will be more like the anime, where sometimes you can do a few moves in a row or be hit by a combo of moves yourself, all depending on circumstances. Stronger moves tend to take more time and have more cooldown than weaker moves, so beware of that timing. Speed is more important for closing ground, intercepting, and other things and doesn't necessarily mean going first.

Call me out on a mistake and receive a suggestive picture, mostly likely a butt.

Pokemon:
Gobble (Munchlax)
Mace (Roggenrola)
Belladonna (Roselia)
Dice (Totodile)

Badges: 1

Recently: You bonded and trained with Dice, had sexy massage time with the girls, and had a very awkward conversation with Keira and forgave her for her trespasses.

You want to get your team ready for the next fight. You expect it to be intense, and you’d feel terrible if you didn’t do everything you can to give them the edge they need.

Wait a second. Before you do that, you load up your TM. You almost forgot about it. You take it out and boot it into your Pokedex.

The screen flickers and fuzzes for a second before it produces a bunch of technical gibberish. At the end though, it sums it up, along with the move name. Sunny Day.

Oh. Well, that’s not really useful right now, but that’s just your luck. You start by aiming it at Gobble and asking if he’s ready to learn. He nods.

You’ve seen this done on shows before, and the instructions as you go along all seem simple. You just aim and use, and keep it on him while he sits still for a few minutes.

After it’s done, you ask him how he feels.

He shrugs. He doesn't feel different at all.

“Can you use it?”

He tries, but nothing happens. He gives up and sits, finding that picking his fur is more interesting than trying again. You look at the pokedex. It says it’ll take several hours and before it’s useful.

Well, in the meantime, it’s back to regular old training.

Well, first thing you want to do is work on his stats. Gobble has a decent collection of moves, but what he really needs right now is just some general training.

“Let’s work on your defenses.” You tell Gobble. He warily pushes himself up and gives you a funny look.

“He’s not going to beat you.” Laki laughs as she slaps you on the back. She’s wearing tight spandex. “But we are going to toughen you up.”

“We?”

She raises an eyebrow. “You can do it yourself if you want, but just like what you did last night, it’s better with a partner.”

“What’d you do last night?” Keira asks in her sunny way.

“N-nothing!” You grab Laki and go to a training area.

You train under a waterfall. Laki and her pokemon, you and Gobble. The constant pressure coming down really toughens him up, and Laki has the idea of having the pokemon lightly bump each other

By the time you’re done, Gobble is floating face up in the water, blowing up a stream. He’s pooped. Not too pooped o float over and ask for more food, though. You toss him some you prepared when he was busy and sit down.

Laki’s Meowth crawls onto your lap and curls up.

Bella hops on top of Meowth in a bid for more attention, so you guess she’s next. You’ll start with Sunny Day, not that you need it in this heat right now, but what else?

I was wondering how Herb might take advantage of Kiera's invitation when it hit me. The 'Herb'est thing to do is use it to have her model for him. Nothing tasteless, but some of the more risque fashions, like you see in the big name designer venues.

You take Bella aside after Meowth gets up and cleans itself. You can’t help but notice it’s fussing behind it’s ear the same way Laki is as she puts a flower in hers.

“Bella. We need to chat.”

She perks up. She’s interested, but only for a second. She gets distracted by seeing Dice standing right on the edge of the water. She runs up and pushes him in.

He floats head down for a while before finally turning around. He doesn’t seem to care one bit.

Maybe you should do this whole training her on a move. Keep her doing two things at once she she’s not distracted.

>Keep her doing two things at once she she’s not distracted.
I think that's meant to be "since"?
>>
>>1153566
>Toxic seems like a no brainer

That seems like an odd selection of moves; I was expecting basic stuff she gets like Leech Seed.
>>
>>1153598
I think it should be "so that she's", but a butt is a butt by any other name.
>>
>>1153599
Well we can do Leech Seed soon too. Its goes with our whole HP drain concept, but I like the Poison there too so it just erodes our opponents
>>

>Try to learn Bullet Seed

>>1153598

Also consideration for the future

we currently have the ability Leaf Guard (which works well with Sunny Day). But Roserade doesnt have Leaf Guard.

Does this mean we get Roserade's Hidden Ability Technician?
>>
>>1153608
Less advocating Leech Seed (not that it's not great), more stating some surprise over the fact every option is basically a TM or Egg Move when before our options when training were largely stuff the Pokemon naturally picked up.
>>
>>1153633
Yes, which doesn't actually boost too much except for the Multi-hit moves which are all physical normally, Magical Leaf, Normal Weather Ball, and Hidden Power. Though I suppose weaker moves that she gets off faster will also be boosted.
>>
>>1153669
That basically what i was considering if we work on a rapid fire idea or maybe even a dual quick draw combo (two different attacks one right after the other)

“Let’s learn a new move! How about Toxi-”

Bella leaps up and uses Leech Seed on Mace. She knows Leech Seed?

“Belladonna!” You retrieve Mace to stop the effects. At least, that’s what you heard you’re supposed to do. You’re glad to see it worked, and let him back out. You keep an eye on him just in case. He looks confused, but otherwise fine.

She laughs and falls over. The laughter ends when she notices you’re not laughing. She makes a motion to ask if you’re impressed that she learned it.

“Yes, I’m impressed, but I think you’re missing the point.”

She shrugs. What’s the big deal?

“Besides, Laki puts you in headlocks and stuff all the time.” Keira comes out of nowhere to help translate. You also think Keira is translating a bit freely to make a point, but maybe you’re just being paranoid.

“The difference is that I don’t mind when Laki does it.”

Laki and Keira both raise an eyebrow.

“I mean, we’re good friends and I trust her, and it’s not the same thing as using a status move. Look.”

You point to Gobble and Mace playfighting. They’re just lightly wrestling. Mace only seems to open up and relax with Gobble. Mace isn’t fast or strong enough to overpower Gobble in a direct push fight, but Gobble can’t move the heavy Mace very far or deal with him when he uses a quick burst of energy to shift. Dice waddles in and trips over them both. They laugh at the fallen Totodile, and he laughs with them without knowing why.

You turn back to Bella. She’s already preparing an attack with an eager and mischievous look on her face.

“No! No moves. And you have to be gentle.”

Laki comes up and puts you in a headlock. “That’s right, Bella. Be gentle. Not everyone is strong like us.”

You push yourself out. Well, Laki lets you push yourself out after you reach under her rib at least. “No. Laki. You’re showing her a bad example.”

Laki looks like she wants to fight you on that, but she turns to Bella and backs down. “Whatever.”

You hope she isn’t mad. There’s a huge part of you that wants to make sure, but you fight it with everything in your being so you can stay strong in front of Belladonna. Besides, it’s such a small thing. Girls don’t get mad over tiny things and blow them out of proportion, right?

You spend time working on Toxic with Bella. You think she gets it. At least, she’s mostly got it. You won’t know for sure until you try it in a battle situation. She looks momentarily satisfied and doesn’t even think to trip Dice as he waddles by. You tell her how proud you are, and she assumes it’s just about her progress on the move. Seeing her light up like that makes your heart skip a beat.

You turn to Mace next. He’s looking fairly relaxed after horsing around with the others.

You sit beside him and meditate for awhile. It’s hard. You keep getting distracted by the sounds of splashing. The girls and their pokemon play around in the water. Gobble pokes Mace to play some more, but Mace is too deep to notice. You on the other hand, are very distracted by it until Gobble gives up and goes to sniff various plants to see how edible they are. Now you’re keeping an eye on him while he does that to make sure he doesn’t do anything he’ll regret.

You sigh. Okay, this is for Mace. You can do it. Just try harder to meditate.

That’s not working! You can’t just try. Do, or do not.

You do. For a minute. You find your center as you relax and let your body go.

Brap.

Oh jeez. Oh jeez you just farted. You open one eye. Everyone is looking at you. Even Mace.

“Heh.” You scratch behind your head.

Keira stifles a laugh, then falls over into the water. Laki joins her. She catches the priestess and immediately apologizes, but Keira tells her it's okay, which just makes Laki even more uncomfortable.

The girls eventually tell you to take it easy. They’re only laughing because of how embarrassed you are. That just makes you more embarrassed, though. You feel like you missed a chance to get in touch with yourself, too.

You all pack up for the night. But as you’re leaving, you turn to make sure Mace is coming.

Mace rockets into the air. Not far, this time. He’s about to come crashing down when he fires another jet of energy. It’s uneven and he bounces in the air and overcompensates all over the place, but he avoids smashing or taking off. He comes to a sloppy but decent landing beside you.

“Good job!” You tell him.

He salutes. He looks more surprised than you are. You might not be the best at meditation and control, but at least you’re encouraging Mace.

He gives you an encouraging look right back. You can’t talk to pokemon like Keira can, but you get his meaning. “Never give up.”

You sleep with that in mind, and get right to training after breakfast. You don’t even get distracted by Keira’s blanket slipping and showing the side of her body.

“Ready for your turn, Dice?”

Dice chomps down his breakfast and stares at you.

We've had him for like a 2 days and haven't had a single battle with him. I don't think he's anywhere close to evolving.

You make a fair point. It's a bit weird to think about for me. But keeping that in mind, it's probably most efficient to use move training time to focus on egg/tutor moves. I do want to use training time to confirm what moves our mon have naturally grown into before testing them in the heat of battle.

Bella's bully leech seed is an example of it done even better though. But I'd still like to know how fast she can fire poison stings, does she know giga drain, etc.

“Hey, Dice, can I ask you something?”

He blinks.

“When the time comes, are you okay with evolving? And while we’re on the topic, is there anything you think I should know, just in general?” You realize how little you actually know about the small guy.

He just smiles. He seems fine. You show him a picture of his next stage from your pokedex just in case. It’s a bit annoying to use because you can’t bookmark a page, but you flip to it eventually.

He nods enthusiastically. Then he crawls on the ground as if he’s swimming and sneaks up and gently chomps your foot.

“Well, okay then. Let’s get to training.”

He rolls up to his feet. That’s a good sign.

You and he stand up on the lookout cliff as the sun rises. You aren’t really sure what you’re doing, but you just sort of move around while shifting your weight in all sorts of unpredictable ways and have him do the same. It’s sort of like a tribal dance. You’re just glad nobody human or judgement is watching. You’d feel foolish if anyone else was around.

Dice gets pretty good at finding a rhythm and doing the same. You play a game of tag, sort of, where you have to boop each other’s noses without touching any other part of their body while staying in constant motion. It’s hard, and weird but you both get a lot of practice in with being confident and moving in weird ways. You both bend over backwards and clunks heads together.

Nobody is hurt. You’re just laughing, sore, and done for now.

You spend the next day again training. It’s a lot of recapping and making sure you all have everything down. Your pokemon all seem to vary their effort by the amount you’re willing to put in yourself, so it’s exhausting work. You keep everyone well fed and encouraged, though. You know that with effort and the power of friendship, you can all accomplish anything.

You even noticed Laki is starting to do a bit of training herself. Not just her pokemon, but a few pull ups and other things. You guess that as an athlete, she just can’t help it.

You’re about to get some sleep so you can be ready to battle tomorrow afternoon, when you get a call. It’s Valerie. She fills you in on having a conversation with Hana and telling her a deep secret. She also mentions that they’ll be stopping into the island tomorrow.

You look around. You don’t see Keira or Laki anywhere, but they can sometimes just sneak up on you. Islanders seem to really know how to blend into the island sounds without trying.

This is shit that could legitimately ruin her life permanently.

Speaking about it to anybody could be a death sentence for her future and aspirations.
>>
You warn her about the snow and the priests. She says that Hana gave her a bit of a heads up, but not as detailed as that. She didn’t realize it was so strict.

“Thanks, Herb. I’m glad you weren’t lashed or anything.”

You too. You also let her know about your upcoming gym battle at the burning temple.

“Wow! Burning? That must be quite the show. I’ll make sure we arrive early enough to see. I know Hana will like seeing it. And you.”

You feel like she’s hinting at something, but for the life of you, you can’t figure out what. You’re probably imagining it. “Oh yeah! Can I ask your advice on something? I have this idea for a coffee, and I don’t know the first thing about getting it out there.” You mention a bit about it, but not the exact idea.

“Oh, I get it. You’re asking the rich girl to invest in your money making idea, right? I thought you were different, Herb.”

Throwing in an apology on our insensitivity, how we didn't thiink things through on her end, etc, etc. seems like a Herb thing to do, too.

We did sorta assume she would know more than us on how to judge it from a business or deployment angle. We just think its nifty.

How late do you plan to go tonight?
>>
>>1154447
To expound on this, I want us to be on Valerie's boat, and a Chinchou just barely escapes and dives out of sight. We, Herb, would then tear our shirt off and hop into the water with our Dice-Croconaw. The wild mon would be fought and subdued in its own domain almost single-handedly.

Finally the Pokemon would be physically handed back off to Hana, star-light lit water glistening on our hard pecs, and we pat her on the head.

“Woah. Where is this coming from?” You’re more concerned than upset. “I just trust you, and I think you’re smart. I didn’t mean to offend you. I’m sorry. I won’t mention it again. I didn’t think about it at all and-”

There’s a snort, and then a laugh. “I’m sorry, Herb. But you really are fun to tease.”

“Tease?”

“I wasn’t being serious. Oh, now I feel horrible.” The fought giggle in her voice makes you doubt she feels that terrible. “But you were very sweet. I can’t believe I thought you were some sort of secret playboy for a bit when we first met. I guess Jane is very convincing.”

You’re not sure how to react to that.

“Anyway, I’ll see you tomorrow. We need to come up with a new challenge for each other, so think of something good for me, okay? I’m already afraid, but that’s a good thing. We’ve got to face that fear head on. Like papa says ‘who dares, wins.’”

She sounds like she’s convincing herself more than you, but you don’t have time to dwell on it.

You crawl into your little sleeping spot. The rain is starting to trickle down a little, but you have a nice spot under a huge tree on elevated ground.

Gobble is snoring, and Laki seems to be competing with him to produce an even louder snore. You’re not really sure, but you think they have a harmony going. Bella sleeps on Laki’s chest, using her...chest parts as a pillow.

Dice curls in with Nincada and Chatot, who are snuggled nicely with Tropius.

You see Keira laying on some hard rocks by another tree that’s a little lower. She’s been keeping a distance like that since she told you what happened. You can’t imagine that it’s very comfortable, but then again, you’ve also seen her sleep soundly while suspended by vines.

You could invite her over, but it’d be snug.

Valerie joining in on the ‘tease Herb’ train is bugging you just a little. You don’t mind it, really, but it’s the idea behind it. Does everyone see you as a pushover or a wimp? Or is it just friendly, if a bit excessive sometimes? Are you a dope who falls for everything, a nice guy, a little brother figure, or something else?

You guess that you like that everyone seems to enjoy your company. And it’s not that the teasing itself bugs you, it’s just the motivations and meanings behind it. Maybe you’re overthinking it. You don’t want to be that person that everyone is afraid to joke with. And for all you know, the fact that everyone likes to tease you is just a sign that you make people comfortable.

Or maybe it’s a sign that you exude primal weakness and everyone picks up on that in a subconscious way.

You know what? None of that matters right now. While you’re feeling sorry for yourself, Keira is shivering. You just can’t ignore that.

You move over to the other side of Laki. You’ve become less worried and less nervous about maneuvering around the strong, shapely friend of yours. She sleeps like a rock. You settle in behind her with a small gap between the two of you, then whisper over to Keira.

“Hey. You don’t have to sleep off alone like that.”

She opens her eyes and glances back. “It’s okay.”

You pat the spot on the other side of Laki. “It looks wet over there. Come on.” You’re not used to pushing people, but tonight is an exception.

She gives you the sweetest smile. Even you pick up on it. She curls up next to Laki with her thin blanket, looking a lot more comfortable.

“Thanks, Herb.”

You fall asleep feeling warm and fuzzy. Not because she seemed thankful, but because you did something that made someone happier. Maybe that makes you a wuss or a pushover or beta or whatever people want to call it. But it makes you feel needed, and good.

You wake up half on top of Laki. She’s pulled you right it. You peak over her and see her other hand on the blanket on Keira’s-Oh jeez!

They both seem to wake up at the same time, pause, look at each other, and Laki leaps up. She apologizes profusely and says she didn’t mean any disrespect. Keira insists she shouldn’t worry about it and says it’s karmic. Plus the blanket was between her and Laki.

Laki doesn’t know what to make of that, but she seems glad not to have violated the rule about touching clergy and lets it go. She seems a lot more concerned about the bare skin rule than touching her through clothes. It really is a different culture than yours.

You have a battle this afternoon, so if you’re going to get your pokemon a good breakfast with time to digest, you should cook it up now.

Yeah. Jane sees us as competition, rather than a friend, and Val's on-again-off-again about giving any signs she sees us as a sexual entity. Other than that, we actually seem to have made some pretty great impressions.

You fry up a nice meal that will give their attacks some extra power.

Keira climbs the tall tree near you. Her grass skirt and bare feet make you wonder how she can do that without dying of tiny cuts, but she always seems to be able to navigate her way through nature without ever suffering that sort of thing.

She gets as high as she can, then stretches her hand up. She stays there for a second with her eyes closed, then leaps down.

“Why did you do that?” You wonder if it’s some sort of ritual.

“When I take my next trial, I’ll be able to go all the way up to the top of the mountain. Until then, I can’t set foot any higher on the rock then just up that small hill. This tree goes above that, though.”

Huh. She’s right.

“Isn’t that bending the rules?” Laki asks.

“No way. They’re worded the way they are for a reason. And besides, people fly overhead in aeroplanes and gyrocopters, and that doesn’t count. The clergy ruled on that many years ago.”

Every packs up and heads down to the temple. You see Hana and Valerie there. The top of the yacht can be seen at the dock way down on the water, even from this distance.

You’re about to wave when Jane suddenly appears right in front of you. Laki is completely taken by surprise and almost trips backwards, but she regains her footing in time to catch herself, if not her dignity. That makes her angry.

“You don’t think I’d let you be the first to battle in the burning temple, did you? It’s not every day you get a chance like this, and some outsider like you isn’t going to use up all the time and leave nothing for the rest of us.”

“We were invited first.” Keira says.

Jane bows respectfully, but her voice is still confident when she brings out her counterpoint. “It’s still first come, first serve. If you want it so badly, then get there first!” She pokes you in the chest, then turns around and runs.

Maybe. There's still something that I don't quite see from her that I do from Laki or Hana. Maybe that's because we haven't been in her head as much. Not that we've gotten too much of Hana's perspective either, but she's usually pretty easy to read.

We git gud I guess. If we lost by a slim margin or terrible luck, maybe we come back in a couple days. If we were trounced, maybe we try again after getting significantly stronger, maybe the next time we're on that island.

I doubt the battle will be more than three Pokemon. The Electric gym for example had Hana and us fight none of the same Pokemon. But it would tell us some things we could fight.

My main concern with the fight is that if Jane goes first the place is either gonna be done burning for the most part or we are gonna be going in when the temple is mostly likely to fall apart.

You decide to chase after her. You aren’t really the competitive type, and you’re worried this is some sort of trap by her, but at the same time, weeee! You hear Laki cheer you on. Keira even hops down, but she takes off into the trees that run parallel to the path. You can’t imagine that going so far out of her way would make any shortcut worth it.

You fly down the steep incline. You’re not so much trying to run fast as you are trying to keep your feet under you as gravity sends you speeding down the hill.

Jane glances your way, looks surprised, then grins. You’re catching up. She redoubles her efforts and starts widening the gap.

No sense in losing now.

Your heart burns and your legs feel like they’re getting filled with cement. Jane is picking up the pace even more now. Both of you are starting to realize that a slip could end poorly.

You look ahead, desperately hopeful that nothing will block your path. The Fire Priest is watching and shouts something passion, then sticks a small cloth on a branch. He points to it and backs away. Looks like he’s a fan of competitions like this.

You jump over a rock, duck under a branch, and pick up the speed you just lost. Jane is doing the same thing.

Inch by inch you gain on her. You reach out. Almost...there.

You snatch at the air as Jane grabs the cloth. She kept ahead by a hand’s length.

The two of you pant and slow down as the Fire Priest laughs.

“It’s good to see passion in young people.”

“But,” Jane pants, handing over the cloth. “I had more, right?” She bows, almost falling over.

Oh right! You bow too. Oh man that makes your head light.

He doesn’t seem to appreciate her attitude. “Did you? It seems that this young man here started behind you and almost caught up.”

She looks up. She restrains herself from saying anything until he makes a motion for her to come out with it.

“Well, sir. Respectfully, I wasn’t running as fast as I could until he caught up.”

“Then you weren’t giving your full passion, were you?” He hands the cloth over to you. “I’m assuming you two wanted to see who would battle first? Well, what do you say, hmm?”

Jane looks mad. But there’s also a hint of disappointment and hurt behind her distinctly blue eyes. But also anger. Yup. Lots of that.

“I can’t choose.” You blurt out between breaths, remembering to refuse twice before accepting.

“I insist.”

“I couldn’t possibly accept the honor of choosing.”

“I insist!” He roars. Not angrily. But passionately.

“In that case.” You huff. “I think Jane won. Those.” whoo, you lean over, resting your hands on your knees, “were the rules.”

Jane looks up eagerly at the Fire Priest.

“Ha! I see the passion in your eyes even now. Alright. Go to the other side, young Jane. Set your soul on fire!”

Jane runs off. Her eyes meet yours for just a second as she passes. Suspicion mixed with...gratitude? Nah. That can’t be it.

Keira is already talking to the High Priest Makai, the leader of the Ghost clergy. She waves you over. How did she get ahead of you? Laki is still catching up. Hana and Valerie are coming over, too.

“Young John.” The ghost priest greets you. “It seems you’ve been keeping young Priestess Keira busy. She must have shown you a quite lot.”

“Of the island!” Keira leaps into the conversation after her bow. “Is the temple ready?”

“Yes. We’ve just completed the third check. Nobody remains.”

“It will burn gloriously.” The fire priest says, staring at it. His Charizard stands by his side. You gulp. That seems to pull his attention. “Young John. You only have one badge, am I correct?”

You nod. “Yes sir.”

“Then I don’t think you’ll be fighting, old friend, unless things get really interesting.” He rests a hand on the intimidating pokemon. It roars. You do your best not to jump. You can feel the roar reverberate in your chest.

Laki and your pokemon finally arrive. You watch as the various fire clergy in thick, wet looking robes take up positions on the surrounding cliff side. It’s only now that you realize that the noise you’re hearing is a low pitched hum, and not just the waterfall. It gets louder and louder.

A young, non priest is handing a torch, and they drop it from above. The chanting stops and the torch connects, causing everyone to cheer and yell. After that, a few fire pokemon start the fires on the sides. They’re tiny fires, but you guess they’ll grow.

You look to your friends. Valerie looks as lost as you do, but the islanders all seem to just be watching without being expected to do anything.

“Let the first battle begin!”

Hana stands beside you. “Herb! Have you been working out?” She winces as soon as the words leave her mouth. Did she pull a muscle or something?

“Working out? Well, I guess I’ve been exercising a little.” You get a nice compliment and the first thing you want to do is run away from it.

A loud cheer breaks the awkward tension. Why is there tension? Is it because of your talk before? Laki openly tells you to...touch yourself, but that doesn’t make things like this. Maybe you’re both just awkward people. That’s something you have in common, at least.

“Those pants aren’t awkward.” You instantly fight the urge to run off the cliff. “I mean, they suit you. They look great!” You lean back to give an exaggerated assessment for some reason, and you realize that all you’re doing is looking at her butt. “Really form fittin- I mean, they hug you well. But not too well. It’s a-a-a nice balance.”

Calm down. She won’t overthink it.

“Oh. Heh. Thanks.” She pulls back the hair on the side of her face. Oh jeez. She’s red with anger. She’s acting nice, though. “Are you next?”

“Uh, yeah.” You’re glad this gives you an excuse to look over at the battle. Anywhere that isn’t eye contact.

The Fire Priest is using a chimchar. Jane has sent out her Hitmonlee. They’re sparring on a wooden platform away from the fire. So far it looks like a regular battle, except for the occasional missed attack that blows away some wood. A fire attack rides up an upward flying cloud of splinters and wood chips.

“Wow. It reminds me of fireworks.”

“Fireworks?” Keira pops in. “I’ve heard about those! They sound amazing!”

You and Hana exchange a look. You’re both thinking the same thing. You have to show her fireworks some time.

“Hey, want to go fishing later?”

“Yeah. I’d like that. But I don’t think we can do it down this stream.”

Right. The falling wood bits and ash probably scare away some fish pokemon. You wonder if this is environmentally friendly. It must be, if the islanders do it.

Chimchar is booted through a wall, and the gym leader retrieves him before he falls to the water below. “Excellent! You have the heart of a warrior. We’ll have to step it up! Go, Marowak!”

“This looks really hard.” Hana says. “Are you sure you’re up for it?”

>Of course! And she should go after you

“Well, if I lose, I can try again. It’s not a big deal.”

The Fire Priest overheard that. He doesn’t look like he approves of your passionless message.

“But I didn’t come to lose. I think I have a good chance. I just have to fight smart.”

You’re amazed at this strange Marowak. You know some pokemon are different out here, but seeing it with your own eyes still makes it seem unworldly.

Hitmonlee is trapped on all sides by fire on a burning platform.

“Was getting caught part of your plan?” The Fire Priest yells to Jane.

“Of course!” She yells back. Hitmonlee doesn’t seem to be in on it though, judging by how he’s looking around.

Marowak tosses two Bonemarangs at the fighting pokemon. He’s only able to dodge one. And the fire is getting closer.

“The fire rises.” He warns. Marowak walks forward through the flames. “Force it off the platform, Marowak!”

“Why would he shoot an attack at a mon’ before tossing it off the platform?” Hana asks. You see why though. It’s coming back.

As Marowak closes in, Hitmonlee ducks and the bonemarang it dodges earlier flies into a support structure. The entire platform starts going down.

Marowak goes tumbling into the water. He’s not knocked out, but he’s pretty clearly unable to fight. Hitmonlee is able to use it’s springy legs to suspend itself between two narrow points of rock. It leaps back up after. The fire priest retrieves Marowak.

The priest looks angry, thrilled, and a little embarrassed that Jane is doing so well. “Looks like I underestimated you. Charizard, how do you feel?”

It roars! You and the others nearly jump out of your skin.

“Good.” He turns to you. “You. Boy. You know this Jane girl. Is she getting lucky, or should I stop holding back? Hmm?”

Why is it always you?

You look over to Hitmonlee. You can’t see clearly through the hot air, but he’s looking really worn down. He’s in deep trouble if he faces an overwhelming opponent. Then again, Jane wouldn’t push her pokemon just for the bragging rights of beating a gym without losing a pokemon, right?

>She’s really good. You can’t underestimate her. Don’t hold back.

Given that any momhood might be in the future, I'd assume Hana to have gotten over that by then, or it could be the change that pushes her over that insecurity and to gain more self-worth. I mean, she didn't have her parents for very long, so she'd probably go hard on caring and protecting, at least.
>>
>>1157841
I doubt it, considering last quest. There was a massive amount of power shoved into Robin's face, and it wasn't fully healed
>>
>>1157841
We'd probably need fuel of a mystical variety to do anything game-breaking.

Clearly we need to go the Hornbeam route of capturing a bunch of legendaries and using their power to achieve magic effects on a global scale. But in the name of good.

We had a master psychic, a healer, like 6 different psychic pokemon, amplification crystals, and a girl almost kill herself trying to heal a pretty simple wound.

Most we can reasonably expect of Herb's healing is fixing cuts and helping reduce recovery time. Fixing something that's already healed isn't likely, even if we had everything Robin had

>HornbeamGetOut.jpg
>>
>>1157930
Remember- if the subjects are unable to complain that is technically not complaining.
>>
>>1157914
Psychic and aura stuff does not necessarily have anything to do with healing power, it's only side related.

Hence the car example being apt.

No matter how good the car is or how powerful it is, if you strap a paintbrush to the front and try to paint your house with it, it won't work very fucking good.

Use the car for driving, use the paintbrush for painting, and use the healing power for healing because the psychic and aura shit may not be the right tools for the job.

Notice how herb doesn't have psychic or aura powers and yet we heal? They're not the same things, and Psychic powers are likely only slightly related due to being broad as fuck by nature.
>>
>>1157939
>No matter how good the car is or how powerful it is, if you strap a paintbrush to the front and try to paint your house with it, it won't work very fucking good.
Clearly not powerful enough, then. A rocket assisted descent from space with a big aerodynamic heatshield into a nearby lake of paint would do the job suitably.
>>
>>1157946
I'm assume that would be how a legendary Psychic like Mew would be capable of handling healing.
>>
>>1157939
Such grand healing would come at a cost
Even with tons of experience Herb probably wouldn't survive the attempt.
You might use a paintbrush for painting but you wouldn't paint a skyscraper with it.
>>
>>1157939
I'm fairly sure Jeanine was said to be a novice healing in addition to aura reading. Sure she wasn't a master, but the powerup crystals combined with a shitload of energy should be a good representation of the limits of healing
>>
“She’s really skilled.” You take a second to try to phrase this in a way he’d appreciate. “She approaches every battle with umm, great intensity!” You fake a surge of confidence. It gives you some real confidence as a bonus. “You should match that for a glorious battle!”

He considers your words for a second, then shouts and laughs. Charizard roars and takes off. You’re nearly blown over as it propels itself into the air. It makes quick work of her Hitmonlee. The wind alone from its winds throws the fighting pokemon off balance, letting Charizard land a finishing attack.

Jane looks surprised and cornered. That sort of overwhelming power is a lot to deal with. Clearly, this pokemon is a step above normal when it comes to battle experience.

“You really have a high opinion of Jane.” Hana says.

Laki leans on your shoulder. “Nah. My little Soft Hands here is just getting some sweet revenge.”

“Your Soft Hands?” Hana barely lets out.

Next Jane throws out a small, spidery pokemon. Your Pokedex tells you it's called Dewpider.

She seems to stall it out. The Charizard chases it all around while it scurries all over. She can’t even manage many attacks, because she’s constantly just trying to avoid getting taken out. Eventually, it goes down, too. Jane sends her last pokemon, Fletchfinder.

Fletchfinder sends Charizard on a chase. The smaller, more agile pokemon is trying to outmaneuver the larger, more powerful Charizard. Occasionally it leads it near the water and tries to create a splash for Charizard to fly through. And some of those even land. It’s clear that Fletchfinder is outmatched, though. Charizard is finally able to grab onto it’s weakened prey.

“Congratulations. You got yourself caught. Now what’s the next step of your master plan?”

“Crashing these pokemon, with one survivor! Flail! Now!”

Fletchflinder, in Charizard’s claws, uses Flail. It’s not strong enough to knock it out, but it does change its flight path to head right for a rock pillar. There’s a loud smash and you nearly fall over. Hana reaches out and stops you, though.

Charizard almost recovers from the crash, but it’s pelted in the back by all the falling debris. The smaller Fletchfinder is able to dive between pieces.

“Charizard, return.” He uses a Pokeball to get his pokemon back. “I...well done. young Jane. I suppose you’ve won.” He doesn’t sound bitter, just disappointed. But he gets more energy. “No, you definitely won. The danger of passion is letting it consume you. You kept your passion focused while I did not! But I really want to keep going. Hurry up, little Herb. I’m all riled up. Just go over to where Jane is and get ready. Go! Go!”

You start running. You scramble to get your pokemon ready. Jane smiles. “Nice try, Herb. Having me go first, having him use his Charizard, and the way he reacted? You were feeding him lines to make him upset with me. Well, none of it worked!” She scratches her pokemon's neck.

If we really wanted to fuck with her, we could agree with feeding him lines but dispute the intent. THe fire priests respect passion and ferocity, and by pushing him harder she was able to prove herself worthy in the eyes of a priest.

“Congratulations on your win! That was really amazing! The thing with the platform, and the rocks. Wow!”

She folds her arms. It’s a gesture that reminds you of Laki. You decide not to point that out, though. She takes the berry from her pokemon. Her eyes narrow. You can tell she’s having an internal debate with herself, if only because you do the same thing with your mouth when you do. “Thanks, I suppose. I expect you to put on a good show too. Don’t embarrass me after I told everyone you’re my rival.”

“I’ll do my best!” That’s just her way of wishing you luck. You watch as she goes around the corner. You’re about to get things going when you faintly hear her and peak around.

“You were impressive, weren’t you? Yes you were. Yes you were.” She takes the berry from it as it cuddles into her arms. “And your so handsome too!” She turns to see you and freezes.

“Oh yeah! Items for the match! Keira helped me find some more berries. I totally forgot! Thanks for remind me.”

She’s still as a statue as you go back to your pokemon.

Let’s see. You’re not an expert on these, but you quickly try to find any you recognize. The others you’re not sure about, but this one looks like an Rawst berry. That’s the kind that cures burns!

“Are you ready?” The Fire Priest shouts. He’s anxious to start. You can see why, the fire is spreading.

Alright. Mace is a good bet. You give him the berry.

“Is everyone ready?”

They all give the affirmative. The normally relaxed Gobble flexes his arm. Bella looks scared when she, but she gives a determined noise. Mace is examining his berry and ready to rock. Dice bites your leg.

“Great!” You turn and put your hands around your like a megaphone. “Okay! We’re ready!”

A bit of flaming timber falls down. He’s motioning you to throw out a pokemon. He sends his first pokemon. It’s a Volcarona!

You look over the area. There are three main sections, all of them in varying degrees of of burning. On your right is the largest, main area. It’s got a lot of rooms that you can only barely see into that’s to the removed doors and window panes. Tight quarters.

In the middle are a lot of support beams and platforms. Mace can’t roll around there, but there are still a lot of things he can use for cover or to improvise with. And there are lots of places to go if he loses his footing.

On the right is the lookout. It’s a big flat area. The fire in the corner of it is huge, but taking it’s time to spread. The platform is pretty much featureless other than being attached to the large protruding rock formation. Lots of room to move around on.

You guess you’ll send Mace out first. But where?

Hana's a good bet, considering her awkward flirtations.

Jane's pretty obsessed with us too, she's gotten it in her head that we're rivals. She's probably taken a fair bit of time to consider how she'll one-up us. Fletchinder's weaker to rock now, so a fight may not go her way as easily next time.

Laki's usually with us, so it's hard to say for her.

Half of our team is weak to fighting though, and I don't think we have any great counters to Dewpider. Mace has some super effective moves against it, but we'd have to hope he can tank enough water moves.

She also might have another pokemon that we haven't seen yet. Considering how she has amazing taste in pokemon, she could have a Beldum or Solosis. If we get a chance at a Solosis, Herb better befriend the shit out of it

I really like Drilbur/Excadrill personally, but I'm pretty good with any cute mons we could encounter. Still Fairy type is really the most important type to get for coverage, I doubt we'll see dazzling gleam anytime soon as a TM, our TM luck has been completely terrible.
>>
>>1163575
Fairy isn't needed. Besides, Herb covers it himself.
>>
>>1163580
Fairy covers Fighting, Poison, and Dragon which are three types we don't have reliable coverage for. Ghost also sorta needs coverage since the only Ghost move we have is gobble's Lick, or an actual Ghost or Dark type mon or move. The other type we can't cover at the moment is Electric but only Dice is particularly weak to that type, but a ground Mon would cover Electric and Poison. So I disagree Anon, i think the only type that is needed next is Fairy.
>>
>>1163586
>Fairy covers poison

Nah, but odds are with a strong Fairy aura we would have an easier time with them. Also Dice has Sheer Force Bite and Crunch down the line.
>>
>>1163586
Also Dice has Ice Fang.
>>
>>1162312
Well, Mega Altaria would fill the Dragon/Fairy gap, and for Fire/Psychic, we could get a Delphox or one of these weird gorilla/pig thingies.

>>
>>1163733

So, what do you guys think the odds are Hana asks us out on a date by the end of our next fishing trip?

Personally, I don't see her working up the nerve to do it herself. She'll more likely try dropping hints and flirting in an effort to gauge our interest/ get us to ask her out.

I'm personally going to be gunning for any "You're just like my sister!" type dialogue options, because I'm indicisive and I'm not ready to choose a route yet. Also, because it's kind of fun to watch Hana squirm.
>>
>>1166141

Depends on how much of a sub she is and how willing she is to be especially vulnerable. I give it two to one odds.

She probably has like ten other fantasies with a higher priority, though.
>>
>>1169372
I think the advantage of being able to shed weight like that is that she'd be a lot easier to pick up, assuming the limbs actually do come off, which I think is unconfirmed.

Which is a shame, because Herb is saving himself for marriage, or else he'll make Arceus cry.

And Arceus CAN see the other holes too, so no funny business.
>>
>>1169428
There's going to be all the funny business in the world if some others and I get our way.

>assuming the limbs actually do come off, which I think is unconfirmed.
Care to shed some light on this, Gobble?
>>
>>1169437
Man, Herb's the one who's full of unconfirmed mysteries. What's his last name? Why does he like to be called Herb? What part of the mainland is he from? What religious denomination is he/his family? Do his parents have any pokemon from their journeys? Did he leave any family behind on the mainland? Close friends? How is he so cute? When will he put Laki's in a headlock to show his manliness? Can healing powers be specced into aura massages? Why have we not played dress-up with our pokemon yet?

My point got away from me a bit, but they're all important questions.
>>
>>1169437
Funny Business is gonna be noncanon lewdbins. Herb is PURE
>>
>>1169460
Yeah, it's going to be fun to learn more about Herb. I have many questions. I want to learn more about Herb's grandparents, I want to hear the story about how he got Bella's egg. I want to learn how Herb's parents met, what his relationship with his siblings was like growing up, and find out what Herb was like growing up too.

>>1169591
I just want Herb to feel like a normal boy his age, it's nice to play up the PURE for laughs, but honestly pure thoughts would have been the last thing on my mind if I was in his shoes. I'm definitely more of a Hana when it comes to lewd thoughts thought, so there's that.
>>
>>1170356
Yeah, I mean he isn't 100% pure considering the stuff he is put through. But I think the way Herb works is that so long as the girls aren't being confused about hormones at him then he is not too likely to be thinking about that kind of stuff.
>>
>>1170362
It's actually sorta interesting that Herb actively represses his lewd/sexual thoughts like he was taught that he shouldn't see any woman that way, especially his friends. While it is good to see girls as fully formed people and not just sexual objects it feels like Herb takes it a little too far. I'd like to see us dive into the nitty gritty and find out why Herb thinks this way.
>>
>>1170429
This would actually make for a pretty entertaining bin with Hana. Each tries to explain to the other why/how they think/avoid sexual thoughts, where it probably came from, and how it affects their interactions with people.

This would probably lead to some lewds, so I doubt it'd come up in-quest
>>
>>1170446
I think I guessed earlier that Herb probably had female friends who complained to him about unwanted advances from guys. Possibly they also praised him for "being different" from that.

I think whatever reason brought it on, Herb's restraint is interesting. This time last quest we were making things official with Robin and setting ground rules for our relationship. This time, I think it'll be nice to make things official and set rules well before we try anything sexual. See what a peck on the cheek feels like. Hold hands in public. Share an ice cream sundae. Cuddle. Bury our face in her hair. Sleep in each other's arms. Talk about cute girls together. Open up to each other for support. Just do cute things and take it slow.

Sorry if I'm lobbying for my fetishes too hard here.

>>
>>1170594
It might also be possible that since Herb knows he's not physically attractive and is generally naive, he always felt it was safer not to try and pursue women romantically/sexually. Without more confidence in himself, trying to move beyond a friendship role might seem dangerous.

>>1170658
I'm willing to accept 2nd and 3rd best girls as well, mostly because there's a lot of movement in that area for me. I even had to put Val in the running for myself like the fucker I am to make it harder.
>>
>>1170602
My problem is that I can't decide who I think is best girl though.

Laki, Hana, and Keira are all great, and have great chemistry with Herb.

Val seems like she should be our actual rival, rather than Polu or Jane, since we seem to propel each other forwards.

I've given up on Polu since he has another love interest.

I'm holding off judgement on Jane until she realizes we're not out to get her. She's definitely interesting, but relationships need to be founded on trust.

>Val a rival
>Healthy rivalries
>Not so plebeian taste

The only way we'd be able to hatefuck a rival would be with Jane, though. Not my fetish, but I'm sure some anons are into that.
>>
Wait, can we have more than one rival, or would that be cheating? I don't want to cheat on our Val-pal.

That should be our next challenge for Valerie, to give everyone personal nicknames and use them.

That would really screw with Jane though, if we told her we considered Val our biggest rival. "What does she have that I don't have? Connections? Blonde hair?" Etc.
>>
>>1170713
Val is a social rival, Jane is a poke' rival.

essentially what val has for being a rival is a similar level of social inexperience thus making her a balanced competitor that will help push herb further forward via an evenly matched race to get better.

Jane is the type of rival who is a step or two ahead of you at all times that you try to catch up to which fits better with pokemon training than social ability i'd think.

at least those are my thoughts on it.
>>
>>1170730
Where does that leave Polu then? Poke' rival #2?

I think what rubs me the wrong way about accepting Jane's rivalry is that it reinforces the idea in her head that we want to show her up, which isn't at all what Herb is about. Even our rivalry with Val is about mutual self-improvement.
>>
>>1170667
Herb is cute as fuck and is physically attractive though he does have body issues ie he wants to become more fit and is somewhat insecure with his masculinity. I think that Herb would be great for a relationship, but he will probably fall into the trap of trying to always fulfill his partners needs and forgo pursuing his own desires. I think Herb is coming around on his self-esteem though, since more than one girl is slowly expressing romantic and/or sexual interest in him.
>>
>>1170816
Polu is our bro, Herb is in desperate need of male friends. I feel like Polu will play a bigger role as Herb gets in more situations were the advice of his female friends just isn't cutting it anymore. Examples may include; dating advice, a man's pride, manliness?, and questions that may be too awkward to ask the girls.
>>
>>1170675

We could end up assembling a supporting coalition, though. We may have done the multiple partner thing last quest, but that won't prevent the same from playing out here.

In spite of being a Keirafag, I'm flexible enough to consider attempting either Val or Hana as well, or support Laki if one of those is involved too.

To be fair, I'm a whore for shipping, and the more lines I can draw between characters the happier I am.

...Yes, I have a problem. No, I'm not willing to fix it.
>>

I for one am a Lakifag, but I'm willing to do Hana also. Keira is great and all, but to me it feels like she needs to mature as a person from seeing more of the region. The serious attitude she had back in the cabin really made me interested in her more than her usual personality and I hope we can sit in on her doing ghost business in the future to see more of that.

I'd prefer a monogamous relationship with Keira, but would be okay with a harem if there was enough character development and internal conflict during it's implementation. Herb is much less confident sexually than Kat, and (I assume) grew up in a much more conservative manner. One thing I really don't want to repeat is having one of the characters as a side bitch. It seems out of character for Herb to favor one girl over the other, and none of the girls seem like the type to be okay with being just a fuckbuddy(except Laki, but I'd rather we set her up with Val than have her as a FWB). As for the other member of the harem, I could go for pretty much anyone except Val. Nothing against her, but I don't see her as a romantic interest.

Jane would be fun because of her respect for Keira, seeing her let down her hair and relax around what she sees as a native ideal would be some good character development for her. I want Jane to become comfortable with the native culture and stop seeing it as something that she has to adhere to 100%.

>>1171514
I could definitely go for a ghostbusters episode, the cabin episode was great for Keira developmentally, and I want to see more of her role as a priestess. Basically anything that shows off more of the culture Gobble made has my support
>>
>>1171598
Character development is always good, but I feel like a big part of growth for Herb will be settling down with the person he love most and not trying to appease everyone.

Also new bad end: When the quest is all said and done everyone goes their separate ways and never contacts each other again. Living out boring, unhappy lives.
>>
>>1171598
Yeah, I think Val and Laki would be a bad couple. Laki is purely out for a physical relationship with Val, and I get the feeling Val is looking for friends and other meaningful relationships. I feel like a fuckbuddy would run counterproductive to developing those kinds of relationships.

>Herb becomes Mohn, obsessed with making the best baked PokeBeans

I agree that choosing one girl would be a good ending, just saying what I'd want /if/ we went for the harem route
>>
>>1171679
People who support a ValxLaki ship are really just out to take them both out of the waifu pool.

Pretty transparent

>>1171687
I feel as though getting a recipe from each temple is a good goal for Herb, but we must prepare. While Jane battles, Herb was studying the art of tailoring.

time for another shitstorm?
>Laki is a drunk
>Keira is a rapist
>Hana is a spooky cyborg that will accidently rip Herb's dick off

Personally, I support a ValxLaki relationship because I'd like to see Laki become more into real relationships. Call me a prude, but her mentality of sex without emotional attachment isn't a good character trait

Except it wouldn't no more than with Herb anyways. Yuri being purest love is memery.
>Call me a prude, but her mentality of sex without emotional attachment isn't a good character trait
True, but nothing indicates her having a fling with Val would change that.

true, there's no real reason it has to be Val. However, Val has shown she's interested in Laki and vise versa. If Herb doesn't go for either one, it would be a good way to give them a date.

Now it's entirely speculation, but in my experience, having a real relationship tends to make people less prone to one night stands. If Laki had a functioning relationship with Val, even if it didn't last, it could have a positive effect on her
>>
>>1171514
Former Lakifag, over time I've started leaning more towards Hana.

I'd be okay with a one off drunken romp with Laki (and maybe Val included, why not) to have Herb explore and experiment. And Laki is still fun to have around as a guide and companion either way. I just want that cutest cyborg to be happy, dammit. Herb and Hana's interactions have all been funny and she deserves to have someone doing nice things for her.
>>
>>1171920
The main issue I see is that Laki doesn't seem to want that with Val. It'd be hard to build that relationship from the outside with her initial mindset, especially given Laki's general assertiveness on what she wants. Basically, I don't think we can turn that ship around just talking about it.

If we really wanted to hook Laki up, I'd actually put Hana as the main candidate. I don't think Laki's made her mind up on Hana yet, so we may be able to push her to have an *actual* date with Hana somehow and see if they form a semi-stable pairing.

Still, Hana's cute and I want Herb to be with her too so she gets more screen time. My loyalties are really divided as Gobble keeps growing these characters.

All true.

I feel like Laki is the person we have seen the most of, but her growth is almost the least. I could be wrong, but it seems like the others are growing while just being with Herb while Laki has something stopping her from growing more.
>>

>I feel like Laki is the person we have seen the most of, but her growth is almost the least.
Yeah, that's one of the reasons.

Seeing Jane be affectionate with her Pokemon alleviated the vast majority of my concerns with her, and all the other girls have had doubts overcome or generally warmed up to us. Laki's been more or less consistent the entire quest, other than more fondly speaking of us every two or three threads. Definitely very little in comparison.
>>
>>1172046
We don't really challenge her worldview all that much. Sure, we do some badass things and make her feel pretty and girly sometimes, but that doesn't feed into growth and change.

The first event I could see coming up in the natural course of things to change that would be Laki trying to have sex with Herb and having him turn her down on the basis that she wouldn't be committed. She'd be forced to either try and her way with us because that's what *she* wants, or cave in and admit she doesn't have the right, meaning that people can't always take what they want, even if they are stronger.

Not sure I want to go down that route. Lots of potential drama down there.

Hard mode was the reason liked Jane right? :^]
But yeah, I get that. I'd be fine with Hana too.
>>
>>1172146
Eh. Playing wingman for Jane would be entertaining. Actually trying to get with her romantically? Not so much.

I don't mind thinking on how to help people, but Jane needs fixing, not help. She needs to want that before we can do anything more than be a friend.

...Y'know, finding a way to get Laki and Jane on a date together would be quite the coup.
>>
>>1172182
Not even Herb with his best dice could pull that off.
>>
>>1172219
>triple 100
>Herb gets Jane to third base with Laki on the first date
>>
>>1172242
>Herb left wondering "Why wasn't I included?"
>Bad Luck Herb
>>
>>1172242
Pretty sure that would be Jane and Laki double-teaming herb all night.
>>
>>1172182
It'd be pretty easy.

"Hey Jane, I'm thinking about asking Laki out on a romantic date, but I'm not sure if I can get up the nerve to do it."

Suddenly Jane has a new way to one-up us.

All we need to do then is say something like "Hey Laki, I know for certain you can't just take what you want because there's no way you could seduce Jane."

Suddenly they're romancing the shit out of each other. I bet Jane's dominant enough of a personality to make Laki's feel girly.

I think their dislike of each other is enough to not be fooled by something like that.

While I think it would be amusing to see this fail, I'd be against it since it's so out of character. Funny idea.
