Okay, I once ran a quest a long time ago, about a royal physician/archer/spy but had to stop due to time constraints. I decided to restart it instead of continuing it.

The quest will take place sometime before the events of canon, before the invasion of Earth kingdom by Iroh.

In this thread we will decide on the various things about our character. The character will be male just because I don't think I can do a female character justice.

Is that the one where we were Azula's Onii-Chan? Because I want that back.
>>
>>1148574
Looks good to me... a 19 year old, with a (hopefully) meaningful name (Masayoshi translates to "govern righteously" or "shining goodness") though personally I find the Earth Kingdom to be preferable, and a name with a similar meaning for the more Chinese flair of that would be Deming. ("virtue bright")
>>
>>1148574
I'm cool with this
Seconded.
>>
Yeah, but I already lost notes for that one and I just feel like restarting it instead of continuing the old one. Doesn't mean you can't become Azula's favorite again.

I'll wait for 2 more votes before I make next post.

I'm cool with Fire Nation, 19 years old, not sure about that name. Are we cool with being referred to as "Masa"? Fire names often have a Z in them.
>>
>>1148588
If we aren't cool with that then I'm almost certain someone will take it upon themselves to refer to us as Yoshi, and any dignity we might or might not have at that point will start to go out the window.
>>

I'm shit at making up names. But I'd much rather be an airbender.
>>
Some Firebender male names that aren't attached to main characters:

>Azulon
>Kuzon
>Sozin

One of these, or something like them, would be good.

Unless we're somebody important, our last name is probably Lee. The Fire Nation has "a million Lees".

Anons chose Bro over Waifu? What sorcery is this?

Jokes aside, our winner:

>Yes
>Iroh

Prince Iroh has been a close friend and ally to your family for as long as you remember. Your father has served the royal family faithfully both as their bodyguard in public and their dagger in the night. Your mother was a pupil of Iroh's, he was the one who taught her everything she knows about the Fire Bending. And he treated you as a nephew, an extension of his family, though not related by blood.

Through your relation with Iroh, you got close to his son, Lu Ten. While at first, you were awkward around each, not quite knowing how to treat one another. After a while, you both settled for treating each other as distant cousins when in private and as superior and subordinate when in public.

You were not especially close to other members of the royal family, most of them simply knowing of your existence.

You spent most of your days under the Tutelage of:

You spend your early days under the tutelage of Prince Iroh. He teaches you things about the world and the fire bending. He says that one must control fire and not be controlled by it. That the secret of mastering the fire is in controlled breathing. Your tutelage under Prince Iroh has gone well.

One night as you went to sleep, you dreamt of something enormous. It looked at you with fiery eyes before an enormous paw descended upon you. You expected to be crushed beneath its weight yet that is not what happened. The beast extended two fingers before making contact with you and you saw white. When you woke up you knew something about you changed. During your next practice that change showed itself in the form of a bright yellow flame. When you got extremely frustrated with a particularly difficult exercise that Iroh taught you realized that you flame changed from orange to bright yellow. You melted part of the floor before you realized how hot your fire was.

>Your Parents

You decided that this is something you need to share with your parents. When you said that you had something you wished to tell them, the first one to respond was your father, Hanzo. Your mother, Tomoe, had a thoughtful but happy look on her face. It took a few tries before you were able to bend yellow fire again. The first thing that they showed when they saw your yellow fire is a shock, this was followed by confusion. Your mother, as the best bender in the family, immediately emitted a strange high pitched noise. Your father, on the other hand, had a thoughtful look on his face.

Slowly, you became ten years of age. Both of your parents felt that it was time for you to be taught their respective crafts.

>You concentrated on your father's training. It was harsh and, at times, brutal. But it toughened, it made your body strong and your will unwavering. He also taught you the deeper intricacies of the court and how to navigate it without making ripples.

Winner:
>While you learned from both of your parents, you true focus was on mastering your inner fire. You noticed that since yellow fire became part of you, your temper runs hotter and your patience shorter. This was a weakness you felt you could not afford.

You are now 16 years old, the time seemed to have flew. The task ahead of you was tough. You had to hide your yellow fire from Prince Iroh while maintaining the tutelage under your parents. You father's training tempered your body and will. Your mother's training introduced you to the higher secrets of fire bending. This played a great role in your tempering of your yellow flames. You had to constantly keep your temper in check while still maintaining a certain level of rage in order to use yellow flames.

Prince Iroh further taught you a few tips on the fire bending, one of which was an ability on how to expel fire from your mouth. But more importantly, he provided you with an opportunity you would not have had otherwise.

Drums of war sounded throughout the Fire Nation, it was time, time to put the rotting Earth Nation under the enlightened rule of Fire Lord. Prince Iroh, the future Fire Lord was chosen for this glorious task. He picked his son as his second. However he picked you as his camp adjutant, yet he made it clear that you can refuse with no consequence since this knowledge was not yet made public.

Do you go to war as Iroh's assistant/aide de camp?

To no surprise the winner is:
>Yes (Go to war against Earth Kingdom)

Your parents are proud of you for making this decision, yet at the same time, they are afraid that their only child will not return to them or return to them as nothing but ash. Prince Iroh tries to assure them as much as possible about keeping you safe but everyone understands that there is no such thing as being safe during the war.

You depart with haste after that, Prince Iroh pushing the ships as much as he can to strike at Earth Nation before rumors of the invasion reach the coast. He succeeds in this task. When you arrive at the coast of the Earth Nation you barely meet any resistance besides the local earth benders and hastily trained militia. They were dispatched post haste by the superiorly trained Fire Nation troops.

At first, the advance of the Fire Nation troops was rapid, meeting almost no resistance. But the deeper into the Earth Kingdom you went the more resistance you faced.

Finally, it all came to head when you met a large portion of Earth Kingdom's army in an open battle. Prince Iroh gave you a choice to pick where you wish to be deployed for this battle.

What part did you play during this battle?
Whatever option you pick, throw 3d6, same as list time I will pick highest rolls from each of the three first ones.
>You joined the soldiers at the front, earning no small amount of fame and glory from your fellow Fire Nation soldiers while at the same time earning the ire of the Earth Nation citizens.
>You stayed with Prince Iroh, as is your duty as his adjutant. While you did not directly participate in the battle you gained insights into how to command the troops and became familiar with some of the Fire Nation generals.
>You chose to be with outriders and scouts. You hit the enemy where it hurt the most at just the right moments to slowly turn the tide of battle. While you will not gain as much acclaim as you if you fought at the front, you would be much safer and put the skills your father taught to use.

Rolls are:
>>1149681
>>1149690
>>1149702

You did your duty as the loyal citizen of the Fire Nation and stuck to your assigned duties. Price Iroh rewarded this loyalty by allowing you to attend the strategic meeting. He called for the meeting of the generals, most of them ignored you, not out of malice but simply due to having more urgent priorities than a teenage boy who looks out of place.

Prince Iroh first laid out what meager information the scouts were able to gather. The battlefield was poorly chosen, it was a hill surrounded by plains. The Earth Kingdom forces had already took the high ground, while the outrides tried to slow them down they did not succeed in this task. While the plains favored the better trained Fire Nation troops, the hill allowed the earth benders a huge advantage that would not be easy to overcome.

But there was a piece of good news, while outriders were not able to slow down the Earth Kingdom soldiers and prevent them from taking the hill, they were able to kill a large number of earth benders before being forced to flee.

The biggest problem was the hill where the Earth Kingdom soldiers were able to fortify. While ideally Prince Iroh would surround the hill and just starve out the Earth Kingdom soldiers, the matter of fact is, he did not have time to do so. You see, Earth Kingdom was a rotting corpse, filled with corruption and poverty, but it was gigantic in its size and its population was relative to its size in numbers. If given enough time, the Earth Kingdom to gather its spread out forces and push for a concentrated counter attack Fire Nation would be drowned by sheer numbers. That's why Prince Iroh did not have time, he had to rapidly advance towards Ba Sing Se and take out whatever Earth Kingdom forces he encounters piecemeal in order to prevent the worst case scenario from happening.

Taking all this information in allowed Prince Iroh to put a plan together that should allow the Fire Nation to triumph. He decided to turn the enemies advantage against them. While the hill gave them the higher ground, it also left them exposed to bombardment. And that's what he will do, he will allow engineering crews and fire benders to bombard the hill while the Fire Nation troops will surround the hill and advance towards the Earth Kingdom forces under the covering fire of bombardment. With how few earth benders the Earth Kingdom forces on the hill had left, they will have barely enough of them to defend from bombardment, there was no danger of counter bombardment.
>>
Plan decided, Prince Iroh assigned each task to the general he found most suitable for the task before dismissing them. After all the generals filed out he explained to you step by step why he did what he did. He also explained the importance of picking the right man for the job and having faith in your subordinates.

For the rest of the engagement, you were mostly around Prince Iroh, serving him his favorite tea and playing Pai Sho. Though he did share a few more of his insights based on how the battle was going at the time. Finally, before the day was over the Fire Nation soldiers returned triumphantly. All the Earth Kingdom soldiers who resisted til the end were put to the sword and those who surrendered were put under guard.

The advance towards Ba Sing Se has only just begun.

During the campaign, you had been assigned to a unit, both as a way to gain experience and a way to do something when Prince Iroh does not require your presence.

Just as a reminder guys:
> Distraught by the death of his son, Iroh thought it was necessary that he temporarily retract from his usual work as a general to recuperate.
> He did not immediately return to the Fire Nation after the siege and instead went on a journey throughout the world, which included a spiritual adventure.
> These experiences had a profound impact on Iroh, as he eventually changed his perspective on the world and his life.

So Lu Ten will have to die.

Aside from that, what are the chances of us being near Lu Ten when shit goes down, now that I think about it.
Pretty low I'd say.

So... redundant comment on my side is redundant.

You were quickly hauled off into another part of the camp where you were inducted with no pomp or ceremony. You were given your assignment and sent on your way.

Your assignment is
>Infiltrating Ba Sing Se, gain the trust of the royal family.

Winner:
>Infiltrate Earth Kingdom army, gain the trust of the generals.

Roll: 5,4,3=12

You got lucky, while you were attempting to infiltrate behind the enemy lines you encountered a soldier who seemed to be attempting to desert. You quickly sneaked up upon him and your knife found its way to his throat. By the time you arrived at the Earth Kingdom camp you were looking just like any other Earth Kingdom soldier.

By the end of the week, you got close to a general who had a drinking problem. Whenever he was drunk you had unlimited access to any and all documents within his tent. You used the messenger birds to ferry back any information that would be useful to the Fire Nation army.

Close to the end of the month, you received an order, you were to find out the location of the main supply route used by the Earth Kingdom army. It seemed to be kept as extremely high secret and never written down.

You now have to make a choice.

>Do you torture the general for the information and risk being discovered?

>>
Winner:
>Continue business as usual and hope that the general will slip up during one of his drunken fits.

You decided that the best course of action is to get the general as drunk as possible and subtly probe him for the information about the main supply line.

It took you only two days to find out the information you were looking for. You got your hands on the best wine possible and got the general so drunk that he didn't know left from right. You gave him a story about how you were being assigned to the main supply unit but no one told you where it's located. By the end of the day, you were sending the message using the bird. As was previously ordered, you staged the general's death by subtly poisoning him, making it look like he had an alcohol poisoning.

You were recalled back to the Fire Nation camp before the end of the week to resume your duties as camp adjutant for Prince Iroh.

Using the information you obtained the Fire Nation army cut off the main supply line of the Earth Kingdom resistance. Before the end of the month, most of the Earth Kingdom army was scattered to the winds. The road to Ba Sing Se was left wide open and Prince Iroh wasted no time before sieging the city.

Ba Sing Se has been under siege a little bit under the year. Just yesterday part of the city's wall was finally brought down. Prince Iroh decided to lead the assault personally. Both you and Lu Ten were to fight by his side in what Prince Iroh hoped would be a final assault on the city.

During the assault, you fought side by side with a man who is now renowned as the Dragon of the West and his son. It was the toughest and most invigorating battle that you ever participated in. However, tragedy chose that moment to strike, a member of the royal family fell in battle on this day.

>Lu Ten

Lu Ten... he wasn't your friend, but he was practically family. You both grew even closer while fighting at the front and he always helped you whenever you were depressed, your consciousness weighted down by all of your dark deeds. Lu Ten died taking the arrow intended for Prince Iroh.

Prince Iroh was overwhelmed with grief and ordered all troops to withdraw back to the camp. He was not in a very coherent state and generals were arguing about the next course of action. You were forced to take charge and ordered all troops to orderly retreat to their assigned posts and reinforce them until further orders.

By the end of the month, it was clear the Prince Iroh was in no state of mind to continue the command of the military operation. The morale of the army was at the lowest it's ever been since the start of the invasion. You sent a letter to the Fire Nation to Lord Azulon, hoping to receive the instruction.

Before you could receive the new instructions Prince Iroh seemed to have retained some of his mind and ordered the Fire Nation army to lift the siege of Ba Sing Se. The siege was quickly lifted and the army quickly returned to the previously determined fallback positions. Prince Iroh ordered the army to fortify their positions. He took the ashes of Lu Ten and ordered his retinue to follow him back in his return to Fire Nation.

You've received the greeting of heroes as the whole population of the Fire Nation capital seemed to have arrived to chant the name of Prince Iroh.

What neither of you expected is to hear about the death of Fire Lord Azulon and the ascension of Prince Ozai to the position of the Fire Lord. According to the words of Fire Lord Ozai, his ascension to the position of the Fire Lord was the last dying wish of Fire Lord Azulon. It also seemed that something happened to Fire Lord Ozai's wife, lady Ursa, as you did not see her in court and her name seemed to have become a taboo.

Your parents greeted upon your return, happy to see that you survived. They had some important news that they had to share with you.
